"More traitors, then." Takeshi remarked. "It appears it is not only the Varjans we have to watch out for. I suppose it is not very unsurprising. Our island has its fair share of the wicked and selfish, thinking of only themselves and never the harm they do upon others. Thank you, Kerry, for seeing Takamori. Although, I worry about his daughter. Hmm, this is the first time I've heard about her..."

"If I had to wager a guess, I'd say Takemori felt that, at the time, it wasn't important enough to bring up. Add in her being adopted and him being a high-ranking individual in these parts, it'd make sense for him to be quiet about it.", reasoned Kerry, finishing her meal and putting the bowl down before standing up. "Alright, I'm going to bed. Today has been eventful to say the least. I'll pick things back up first thing in the morning. Night, guys."

The Hornet mamono turned and headed towards the temple for some needed shut eye, maybe even a bath to wash the day's grime off.

Takeshi could only let out an amused chuckle at Lunatea's efforts in wielding the eastern eating implements. "Hey, look on the bright side. You can't get worse than this so you can only improve from here."

"I'm not so sure about that," the wererabbit replied, her expression one of disbelief. “I believe I simply do not have the required dexterity needed to use such an utensil.”

Now turning to face Lunatea giving her a bow of her head in return for her greeting. “A Wererabbit huh? I don’t think I’ve come across a Wererabbit before, so it has been a pretty exciting day already, it is not often I come across those that belong to groups that I haven’t met before, you and Kerry are definitely very unique to any that I have met before, then again I guess I really do only hang out with Oni if anyone at all” Letting out a small little laugh at the end. Before having a thought come to mind now, now that she had met a few of the others within Lady Kyouko’s group.

Lunatea cocked her head to the side. She never saw a wererabbit? That's odd. It's not like our kind is particularly rare or anything…

Still, the girl seems polite… we should get along perfectly fine… which is something I didn't anticipate from an Oni…

The wererabbit then noticed Samael's arrival. It seemed she wouldn't have to seek him out after all. Still, she waited until he finished speaking to the Oni before approaching him.

"Glad to see that you can handle yourself," she said to him with her usual emotionless expression. "I see now that my worries were unfounded. If you had come here with bruises or wounds all over your body, I'd have to write to Ms. Kyouko that you are not up to the task and that she should evacuate you as soon as she can."

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

Then afterward, he turned to Kerry, Lunatea and Takeshi.

"Right, I got to see a man about his dog. See ya for the night!" He announced to the rest of them, intent on retiring for the night but not before doing one little thing.

Lunatea raised an eyebrow at his abrupt exit. Just what was he planning? She herself already had her sleep so she was in no rush to do so again.

Listening to Kerry's remark regarding Takemori made her give her own advice to their de facto leader.

"He never mentioned her, huh? Then perhaps her betrayal stemmed from her sense of inferiority? That she was never accepted fully as his child?"

Blasting Keith with Hyourangeki, Shizuka questioned the hired killer's instincts. Attempting to block such a blast that sprayed multiple icy spears in that way would due little to mitigate the damage, especially at such close range. However, as soon as the thought crossed his mind he saw that having his flesh pierced and frozen did very little to affect North. He immediately closed the distance between them and attempted to strike the ronin down, which he seemed to have been successful in doing. Slashed across his jugular, Shizuka appeared to have been knocked off his feet with blood pouring out of the inflicted wound. However, what happened after almost without delay would catch even the most seasoned veteran off guard. Keith would find that a blade was ran straight through his heart.

"Eseryu. The dragon sheds its skin and is born anew. You cannot always trust your eyes; It is unfortunate that you had to learn this lesson in death. Keep it with you in the afterlife." Said Shizuka, as his afterimage dissipated.

Much to the swordsman's surprise, Keith quickly grabbed the blade protruding from his chest and kicked the swordsman away. Landing again on his feet, Shizuka looked on with perplexion as Keith pulled the sword out of him. In addition, the wound had healed almost instantly just as the ones from Hyourangeki did. Some sort of advanced regeneration spell perhaps? A very powerful one if so. Though now at a disadvantage, Shizuka's composure did not break as Keith taunted him.

Based on what he's seen so far, the mercenary seemed to rely on grit tempered through experience and his strange healing ability rather than strategic thinking. He could use that to his advantage, he thought. It was still risky, as the man could still have more tricks up his sleeve. Shizuka immediately thought of a plan and prepared to spring it into action.

Utilizing Shinsoku, Shizuka began making afterimages that appeared to be teleporting in the surrounding vicinity. That ran circles around Keith, some even phasing in the sky above him. The two clones creating by Lili were indistinguishable among all of the speed generated ones, and soon Keith would find Shizuka instantly on him. Thinking he wouldn't fall for the same trick twice, the one charging at him was indeed the real Shizuka. His plan was to approach Keith with a feint, then imbue his sheath with wind magic to knock his sword out of the merc's hand and reclaim it. Then, while the magic clones kept him at bay he would help Lili quickly mop up the other bandits and make an escape.

At this point in time, Shizuka realized he didn't have an effective way of dealing with Keith's healing abilities to be able to deal a decisive blow. A tactical retreat, he felt, would be best for now.

Terauchi Temple

Having made their way back to the temple with Skarsneek, the sisters had seen that some of the other members of the taskforce had also returned for the evening. Sam appeared to have been resting in a tree for a while, which she supposed he still needed to recover from that night. They along with the goblin, however, were surprised to see the signs of a skirmish on the temple grounds. Atsuha also made note of the fact that Shizuka was strangely absent. She noticed Takeshi had stared at her for a moment.

"Evening, Takeshi-dono, you and Luna-chan seem to have gotten a bit banged up on your quest today. Thankfully, it doesn't seem as bad as it was on the beach!" She said. "I also hope that everything's fine with Shizuka=san, I thought he'd be hear to meet with everyone. I imagine he's out on another mission?" She inquired.

The sisters took notice of a new member of the taskforce present, a cute little Oni girl.

"Hmm. Yuki-chan, was it? My name is Hangai Atsuha, and this is my younger sister Hangai Hinami. I'm a Jorogumo and she's a Jiangshi, and together we run a paranormal investigation agency of sorts. It's a pleasure to meet you." Atsuha said. Hinami politely bowed as the introductions were given. Hinami then proceed away from the scene without saying a word, heading toward the inside of one of the pagodas. Atsuha tried to get her attention, but Hinami ignored her. She quickly turned to the others. "My apologies, if you will excuse me..." She said, attempting to hide her anxiety.

Catching up with Hinami, she stopped her just before she went inside. "Hinami! What's gotten into you? You've been acting odd since earlier this afternoon."

"I'm fine." Hinami quickly snapped at her.

"Nee-chan, you've never been so distant before. We're sisters and there's no reason why you can't tell me what's wrong." Atsuha said as she reach a hand out to Hinami. The latter, however, quickly snapped it away. Her expression now filled with frustration.

"Then why can't you be honest and open with me?! Why not tell me the truth about that night? About how I killed all those men!" She exclaimed. "I'm never seem to be aware of it when it actually happens, but I can taste the blood and chi of those that I've killed. All I remember from that night is lying in Luna-chan's arms, and then I think I blacked out." Tears began to stream down Hinami's eyes.

"Now I understand why you've always told me to never take off that talisman. It's because I'm really just a...just a murderous beast. With me around, the Shizuyaman people are just in their hatred of our kind." Hinami said, her word filled with grief, anger, and self-resentment.

"No you're not!" Quickly retorted the Jorogumo, immediately enveloping her sister in a tight embrace. "I won't allow you to say such horrible things about yourself. You just need to have more control over your base instincts. I promise very soon I'll find a way balance your soul so you don't have to worry about it anymore." She said as tear began to drip from her eyes as well.

"Nee-san, back then when you revived me, di-did I attack you as well?" Hinami asked.

"Hinami, it doesn't matter-"

"Just answer me." Hinami interrupted her sister.

"Yes." She answered.

"I see. So, I can't even stop myself from hurting the most important person in my life. I really am useless, aren't I? As I have always been. I'm just a burden to -"

Atsuha tightened her embrace to stop her sister midsentence.

"I told you to never say that about yourself. If you weren't the most important person to me, you'd think I would've broken taboo and performed a forbidden spell to bring you back? Like I said, we'll get through this together. Back then, you didn't hurt me. All that happened was that you were rightfully brought back into this world and I once again was with my little sister."

Skarsneek may have happened upon the scene of the sisters embracing during his search, perhaps even catching some of their conversation.

“It wasn’t that bad,” the wererabbit replied. “Takeshi did take quite a bit of damage but it wasn’t anything that I couldn’t heal.”

“As for Shizuka, I’m not sure. You’d have to ask the others. I have been sleeping for the whole afternoon, you see.”

KAGEHO, INNOCENT SHADOW

~ @Restalaan (GRI) ~

"Your bossman wears woman's clothing like Nike Maiko, Miso, Miko? He sent me here to crack yer heads on why youz didn't come for the scrap at the beach."
Gringor

No one replied, nothing responded. At least, for the moment.

A minute passed when an image began to flicker in front of Gringor, illuminated by the still-burning forest around him. Then, in an instant, a girl appeared before the male High Orc as if she simply emerged from veil. The 'veil' in this case would be the seemingly empty space Gringor was gazing. Clearly, this girl employed advanced form of stealth magic.

The girl wore black attire that exposed certain parts of her pale-skinned body. Her spiky hair was just as black but her eyes were of a piercing red. Her collar covered her mouth which spoke coldly and quickly to the male High Orc. Her weapons were nowhere to be seen, likely perfectly concealed. "You have my ears, yokai. Do not waste it."

"Who are you and who is this 'bossman'? Leave no details."

Isolated House

THE COST OF IRON

"Varjan. You will tell me everything you know about these 'iron marks.' And the location of a local merchant that has one. Telling me now will be best. I have other methods if you refuse."
Io

"M-Monsters?! How are you here? There aren't supposed to be any monsters in this island!" The now-conscious Varjan exclaimed.

"And those iron marks, we give those out to islanders willing to work for us. Their names are engraved on the marks so no one else can use them." The Varjan prisoner explained, surprisingly willingly. "But those aren't exactly cheap to make. So around these parts, we just get some of the lads to watch them all day. Y'know, make sure they're actually helping us."

"Just like that pathetic merchant we had to retreat to the war camp near here since we got ambushed by these bozos." He motioned to the dead villagers. "I heard these people are related to the merchant. Heh, bet that guy's roast now."

"What? You think you can get away with an iron mark, monster? Ha! You'd be dead before you can even flash the thing at us. Stupid idiot..."

If the Varjan Brigand was speaking the truth, then there was no iron mark to be retrieved for the benefit of the taskforce and Shizuyama. Technically, Io was done with this quest and may head back but she could also continue forward and find the merchant collaborating with the Varjans to honor the dying wishes of the fallen villager. The camp was said to be near here and there were plenty of clues around for the Lich to simply track the location. Then again, maybe she should leave the merchant to his fate for betraying his homeland.

The decision would be up to Io.

FATAL PULSE, SHIPPING AND HANDLING

Freeing herself from her boxy prison, Liliana kicked a fallen sword at the disarmed Shizuka. Sadly, it was ignored but the warrior Fairy had more important things to worry about.

Taking to the skies in her larger form, Liliana struck the Varjans from the safety of the air. Their axes and swords could not reach the warrior Fairy and so they resorted to throwing spears and javelins at her, their Footmen archers loosing arrows. Liliana easily avoided them, and went straight for the bowmen to knock them out of the fight before focusing on the rest.

As she struck the last archer however, a Varjan leapt from the roof and crashed unto the warrior Fairy. Her momentum disrupted, Liliana was forced aground and while she managed to push off the Varjan on her, she soon found herself surrounded by a mob of angry invaders. But before they could descend upon her, the Fairy would find herself saved.

Shizuka increased the number of mirror images he had to further confuse Keith. The multiple Shizuka clones running circles around him, the mercenary was left second-guessing himself. The mercenary reacted too late when the real one ran up to him and, with magic-infused sheath, disarmed him and allowed Shizuka to reclaim his sword. "Wha--! Hey!"

As Shizuka slipped out of the fight, his mirror clones descended upon Keith who began to fight them off in the belief that one of the images was probably the real one. The azure swordsman went towards Liliana's side of the fight to aid her and rendezvous for a retreat, cutting down any Varjan in his way.

The Varjan mob was about to close in on Liliana but pulled away when Shizuka suddenly joined her. Even with the two of them, though, the taskforce duo was surrounded by more Varjans than they ever thought. Reinforcements from the docked ships had joined the fight and more boats were coming to the shipyard.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, the duo found themselves near several crates of the Nolkro drug. If they set it off, no doubt it would create a chain of explosions that, while it would annihilate the shipyard, would give them the opportunity to escape. But would they take that route, or do they have something else in mind?

Shizuyama Wilderness

THE HEAVENLY STRIKE

Terauchi Temple

A new day had come for the survivors of the Varjan invasion. The amount of refugees in the temple had increased, but the haven was nowhere near capacity. The villagers were still holding up, likely still in shock that their once-peaceful lives were so suddenly and drastically changed in such a short time. Those who were able volunteered to tend to any wounded people or prepare meals for everyone.

A man with glowing eyes arrived at the temple. The refugees who recognized him were filled with hope, smiles on their faces. He was Takamori, a warrior said to have been blessed with eyes that can see an opponent's next move. Swords on his hip and a bow on his back, he singled out Kerry from the taskforce and approached her. "Yokai. So you've desecrated one of our temples to use as your base, huh? Well, at least our people can find safety here. Let me talk to the young master first before we catch up."

A young woman with a naginata also arrived at the temple. The islanders in the temple recognized her as Sorae Tokinomiya, a formidable fighter of Clan Tokinomiya. Although, she rarely travels without her family so what became of them? Sorae found Skarsneek and the Hangai sisters of the taskforce and approached them. "Told you I'd be here. I don't appreciate our sacred temple housing yokai but I suppose you and our people need somewhere to go. I found a lead back in that inn regarding my family's killers but let me talk to Lord Takeshi first."

Later, there came a third arrival who was more familiar to the taskforce. The Mad Hatter with the Cursed Sword, Alice, came with some men with her, bound neatly with hempen rope. The refugees gasped in surprise at the sight, but did nothing thankfully and allowed Ayu and Takeshi to greet her on the temple entrance. "Miss Alice! What happened to you?! You look beat! Who are these people? Did you attack some locals?" The silver-haired woman immediately inquired.

"Hmm, these guys look like students of the Heavenly Strike technique." Takeshi crouched to inspect the prisoners. "I heard they joined up with the Varjans. Did they attack you? Well, I guess they'd still attack you even if they didn't join the Varjans..."

Takeshi Oja was at the temple grounds, ready and willing to assist a taskforce member in their ventures.

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

Hmm.

Skarsneek kept to the shadows and hidden behind the walls as he quietly overheard everything about the two sisters' relationship and Hinami's odd behavior.

It'll certainly explain some of the details, he had thought the two was just born of an Echidna or misfortune in general.

But hearing that one turned into a mamono because of a spell to bring back the other? That certainly wasn't what he expected.

Turning his head upwards and letting out a sigh, he supposed he'll have to really step in this time.

Quietly, he moved away from them before returning, this time taking an obvious path and letting his footsteps be known as he trudged noisily around the corner.

"Hey, found ya!" He looked to them and acted like it he had just found them. Hands apart and moving to the two sisters. "Come on, let's get some rest. I bet you're all tired."

Gently wrapping a hand around both sister's waists, he led the way for them to where they can rest.

He did however look to Hinami for a moment before smiling. "Don't worry too much yea? If there's any problem, just rely on us."

"Same for you too, dear wife." He swiftly turned to Atsuha with a grin. "The two of you now are my beloved, and there's nothing I won't do for you both."

Even if it meant dying. Though that part went unsaid by Skarsneek as he pulled the two closer. He may be a scum but he kept his words.

After taking a quiet sleep and hopefully taking some tension off from Hinami, the next day came. Skarsneek was already up and about, giving himself a quick rinse and wipe before seeing what's for today mission.

He was just in time to see the numerous figures that came after being recruited, giving a salute and smile to Takamori, or at least, who he think Takamori is from the getup. "Heya, welcome to the fight, old man. We didn't desecrate it, we just refurnished it! That's all."

Then it was not long when Sorae came, and while he felt his mood soured, Skarsneek pushed it away quickly.

"Glad you can join us, Takeshi is in." He said and cleared a path respectfully but not before adding a little tidbit as she was about to walk past him. "And don't forget, We'll get the bastard together, and I get first dips on what to do this time. Else your ass will be smarting more than just my hand."

"But other than that! Welcome! Space is at premium, so you can always huddle in the stables, trees, and open air. Though my bed is always open for another~" Skarsneek teased before pointing to where Takeshi would be located.

With that out of the way, Skarsneek went through and see the temple and surrounding situation. It's getting cramped, food is going to be a problem, alongside hygiene and disease. They need to work fast to organize this thing out.

For now, he suppose they'll have to get some space.

Though during his thoughts, a request came to him.

No Place Like Home.

Hmm, if he can get them to clear off, then they could use the space if it's nearby enough.

"Aight lady! I'll kick them Varjan ass-I mean, I'll kick the man's ass-I'll solve the problem! Just you wait!" Skarsneek eagerly said a thumbs up, completely blurting his thoughts and words together as he skedaddle away.

Now he just got to find some companions for his job. He wonders if some are willing to join.

---

Gringor of the Ironhide tribe

A moment passed as Gringor stretched his senses, wondering if they really weren't going to respond to him and considered showing just how serious he was by chopping every tree in the vicinity.

Then something shimmered, or more accurately, the air itself twisted before giving way to reveal the sneaky one.

Well, a nice looking sneaky one in his opinion.

Resting his weapon against his shoulder and cracking his neck, idly shifting his foot once before answering her. "I'm Gringor, Ironhide tribe. Strongest and biggest."

"Your boss, Takeshi, lost a scrap against the Varjan. Now he's gathering all the other bois and looking for a second round," He explained curtly between the broken Zipangu language, slowly getting a bit more fluent. "I already crack Nobudata head in and he's ready to fight and get his other bald bois back. Good lad that one, big and strong."

He's stronger though, Gringor huffed inwardly at that. No one is stronger than he was, after all. Or at least, he will be stronger than them eventually.

"So you in, sneaky boi?" Gringor said before he adjusted his weapon and swing it downwards once lightly. "Or do I have to crack your head in too?"

The way she hide was nothing like he ever seen before, closest was the few high bounty-hunters sent to him but even they weren't this good.

A grin formed at the side of his lips, he looked forward in breaking that technique apart and crushing it. Unaware of how it came across as it looked like Gringor was looking for a reason and ready to jump into a tussle against Kageho if she disagree.

Yawning and stretching, Kerry stepped out of the temple, refreshed, fed and ready to face the new day.

Or at the very least, have a better day than yesterday., she thought to herself as she joined the others to see what missions were offered today.

"Aight lady! I'll kick them Varjan ass-I mean, I'll kick the man's ass-I'll solve the problem! Just you wait!"

"Slow your roll, mighty gobby. I'm tagging along. After dealing with problems alone all day yesterday, I'm definitely all for having a friend or two right now.", the Hornet chimed in, merely hovering off the ground to catch to the hobgoblin.

Io at the Abandoned House

Io turned away from the Varjan brigand after he had confessed, satisfied with the information. This wouldn’t be quite as easy as she hoped, but she had captured a few enemies. Hopefully the others would find value in her bringing Varjans alive. If not… It was not Io’s problem.

She brought the Varjan back to the group, and touching his forehead, drained him of enough energy to knock him unconscious. It wasn’t her preferred method, but given the situation it was the best he was getting. “Get these ready to move. I will return in a moment.

Io returned to the abandoned house. It wasn’t much, but the structure was sound enough, and there were plenty of dead nearby. She touched the floor, quickly mouthing some basic spells. A simple ward against wandering animals and something to slow the rate of decay in the nearby area. She’d need to get her zombies back in here to clean the house up for her, and prepare some further magical implements, but Io could store her notes and… potentially other things here in the future. The thought of having a contingency pleased her.

Io returned to her zombie servants. “We are returning to the village. Let the living sort themselves.” Grabbing one of the prisoners, she turned back towards the village. She had to report the details of the iron marks to the villagers and the fighting between them and locals at the very least.

She would then send her zombie servants to return to the abandoned house, in order to prevent them from drawing too much attention. Then she would simply take some time on the temple grounds to mull over the recent events, scrawling notes and reflecting. She would have to peruse her memory to find the right spells. Provided nobody interrupted her, of course.

As she began to meditate, she made a mental note: ‘Find more intact clothes for current zombies. Something fitting for a servant. Perhaps maids.

Sam didn't answer the Oni's question, in fact for the rest of the night and the morning he refused to speak to anyone even Luna despite her suddenly cold and detached attitude towards him. It wasn't that the question had offended or hurt him, it's the fact he couldn't offer a good answer. Thus after waking the demon ate sparingly, picking at his breakfast in relative silence.

"Yeah this time uh...This time...Uhm..." Sam scrunched up his face as he thought of something cool to say like the goblin had "We will teach them a lesson, yeah! Yeah that!" he looked proud of himself, crossing his arms like all cool people do. He seemed slightly less out of sorts than usual which was good.

Regardless he was hellbent on proving his mettle properly, even if it meant that he would need to do something he didn't want to do.

"Hm? Beat," Alice puzzled for a moment, then it clicked. "Oh, you mean all the blood and whatnot. It’s, um, it’s okay, I’m okay..." she bit her lower lip - this was getting hard already, upstairs and downstairs, as her mind wandered:

She’s so pretty. No, not pretty. Handsome? No, no, handsome is so... unbecoming. Gorgeous? No, disgusting. Beautiful? No, mundane. Radiant? Heavenly? Divine?! No, no, no!!! Ugh!!! Why is she so - so - so - so - so! SOSOSO!!! Her face is so serious! Her eyes burn like the sun! Praise those glorious eyes! But, the softness of her concern for me! I want her to fawn over me! Hold me! Hold my hand! So lewd! No, Alice, she’s pure! Look at her! An angel with a grim countenance... So... damn... ... ... ...

Alice’s thoughts were going a mile a minute. So much so, she didn’t even notice that her “bandages”, so to speak, were coming loose, and her head was lightening as her blood was simultaneously leaking out of her and being diverted elsewhere. In a motion that could be mistaken for a swoon, Alice would pass clean out onto Ayu without hearing or answering Takeshi.

"Idiot..." Carroll muttered.

Success.

Keith would soon find out that Shizuka is no less of a combat with or without his blade. Wielding his wind-imbued sheath, the swordsman rushed forth from the deluge of afterimages and stuck his opponent's arm. The sword flew from his arm and spun several times before Shizuka caught it; The clones Lili made immediately followed and began to engage the merc without delay.

His plan now succeeded, Shizuka rushed over to Lilianna, who now was being swarmed with more and more Varjan soldiers. To the point, they took notice of his advance and began closing in on him as well. Not a very wise decision...

"Move aside." Were the only words Shizuka uttered.

One of the soldiers who reached him first attempted to swing at him with an axe. The man was cut down with a diagonal slash to his chest before he had time to even bring his polearm down. Two more tried to avenge their fallen comrade, one wielding a mace and the other a pair of short swords. The mace wielder received a flurry of kicks, with the last one hitting him square in the face. Before the other could even react, he was sent flying back by a sudden squall into a bunch of his other squad members. Their aggression growing, more of then began to jump at him from all sides.

"Uryū Suichū"

A clear blue stream of water began to swirl around the swordsman's blade. With a swift, clean motion he spun completely around. This created a large column of water that sent the group charging at him flailing back all over the place. Jumping out of the column, Shizuka landed next to Lilianna. "Still in one piece?" He asked her, sheathing his blade.

He then saw that more ships had pulled up to the docks, unloading more and more brigands to the fray. Soon the duo were completely surrounded with nothing in lieu of a way out. "Give me a break, we don't have time for this..."

Turning to his side, he then noticed a line of crates sitting on the docks. He looked at them, as if pondering for a moment. He then turned back to Lili with somber eyes.

Lili-san, I believe I know what those crates are filled with. This is most certainly a moronic idea, but it's more than likely our best chance at escape. If you're still able to take us airborne, I'll prepare a bolt to shoot at those crates and ignite them. Of course, if you have any other, perhaps more safe ideas I'm all ears."

Yuki

Yuki noticed that the other demon did not seem too interested in speaking to her, so she turned her attentions elsewhere for the time being. Just in time to spot the rather curious goblin that she had spoken too briefly earlier arriving from wherever he had ventured off to. Noticing that Skarsneek seemed to be rather eager and excited about something so Yuki figured she would go check out what all the excitement was about. After all she had just gotten her and wanted to get to know everyone better. Plus getting some experience by going on a mission would be a great opportunity to really help her ingrain herself into this area’s current situation.

Also noticing Kerry had volunteered to come along as well, Yuki thought this would be an even better opportunity to make some friends and learn from them. She figured the more that joined the group the better it would be for her. Yuki decided she may as well approach Skarsneek, as they had seemed rather friendly when they had spoken briefly before.

“Hey, Skarsneek, was it? What has got you so excited, did you learn about a new mission or job to go on? If so, would you mind if I tagged along with you? I’m still new here but I promise not to slow you down too much. But I would really like to go on my first mission, you seem experienced so maybe I can learn a thing or two from you” Yuki placed her hands behind her back clasping them together as she tilted her head to the side in curiosity. Hoping that the curious looking cross-dressing goblin would allow her to come with him. Glancing over at Kerry as well, hoping that the two of them would not mind her volunteering to tag along with them on this trip. “I hope you don’t mind either Kerry, I will stay out of the way as much as possible” Smiling brightly at the Hornet and the Goblin

She figured that making friends with as many people as she could as it would be a great first step to helping her settle in. Besides, it would be safer and better to go on a quest with a group then all by herself she figured, as the others would have a better idea of what to do and where to go as her knowledge about the area and its society was still very lacking. But now she would be able to learn from two of her peers and that would surely boost her knowledge. Any experience she could get at this point would be positive, she knew she still had much to learn if she was ever going to reach her full potential as an Oni.

House By The River

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

The trio of monsters went forth from the temple, following the directions given to them. Their destination was a lone house by a shallow river, inhabited by a fishing family.

The taskforce trio traversed the dirt roads of the Onrai region, fortunately encountering nothing but the natural beauty of Shizuyama's flora and landscapes. As they approached the river, however, the peaceful atmosphere was broken by a panicking villager boy running up to the taskforce. He realized they were yokai, but was so desperate that he no longer cared. "You there, yokai! The Varjans have them!"

"The invaders took our house...! Just by the river! They captured my parents, but they're still there!" He told the trio as fast as he could. He was left panting, his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. "Please save them..."

This was probably the son of the villager who refused to leave his home. His house by the river was pretty big for a villager's, sporting two stories even. Beside the house were crates and boxes, hanging racks and fishing poles, all the items and equipment one needed to be a fisherman.

But more worrying however, was the group of Varjans that have currently occupied this abode. They also had a strangely large bonfire lit up in the middle of all the fishing equipment and crates. On a closer look, these were not your typical Varjan Warriors or Brigands. The warriors all wore armor tinged blue, save for some Footmen that had bows. Most of them surrounded the large bonfire while some were probably inside the house.

The taskforce trio were hidden behind an outcrop overlooking the house, but the blue-armored Varjans were somehow alerted to their presence. They quickly picked up their armaments and began to search the general vicinity. The window for a surprise attack was quickly running out.

KAGEHO, INNOCENT SHADOW

~ @Restalaan (GRI) ~

"So you in, sneaky boi? Or do I have to crack your head in too?"
Gringor

Kageho did not reply. Instead, she turned her back and began walking away. Gringor noticed that when they spoke, he and the shinobi girl were illuminated by the trees still burning from the fight. But as soon as Kageho left the dim firelight, she vanished with nary a sound of her disappearance. A strange sight to see, considering Gringor could still very definitely see the grassland and forest under the faint moonlight.

"Tell Lord Takeshi that I am in his service." Gringor heard from seemingly nowhere. "And did you really... crack Nobutada's head when you spoke to him?"

After answering the question, Gringor would hear no more from Kageho. It appeared he was successful in recruiting the shinobi girl and he can now either head back to Terauchi Temple or go somewhere else.

Terauchi Temple

With Alice simply passing out in front of them and nary an answer to their questions, Ayu could only catch the fallen Mad Hatter and noticed that she was bleeding. "Oh gods, she's wounded! M-Milord, I must ask for your help here. Can you take her into one of our medical tents and wrap her up in more quality bandages? We'll, uhh, greatly appreciate it."

"I guess I can do that." Takeshi replied as Ayu passed the unconscious Alice onto him. The young lord then carried the Mad Hatter into one of the empty tents designated for medical triage.

Laying her down on a mat, Takeshi also picked up some fresh bandages from the monks and prepared to dress up Alice. He sighed, knowing he was tending to a wounded yokai. He had already crossed the line a long time ago so he supposed there was nothing to worry anymore. "Wait..." But just as he was about to lay his hands on the Mad Hatter, he realized that he probably needed to take Alice's clothes off so he could properly administer the bandages.

The young Oja froze, a dilemma upon him. She may be a yokai, but undressing a girl as a man was just too much. Takeshi wondered if he should just return to Ayu and do this for him, but this was a favor asked of him by someone who worked hard to save his island. His honor would not accept that disgrace. And besides, who knew what might happen to Alice if Takeshi left her alone. And so, Takeshi continued to be frozen by his dilemma.

Meanwhile, Io had arrived with her Zombie retinue as well as a prisoner. She was immediately greeted by Ayu while the villager refugees paid little mind to her arrival. "Ahh, Io! You've returned! I hope your venture went well." She then noticed the Zombies and a Varjan prisoner that the Lich acquired. "We can certainly use the prisoners for information but err, I hope those Zombies you have there aren't formerly Shizuyama locals..."

Takeshi Oja was at the temple grounds, ready and willing to assist a taskforce member in their ventures. As soon as he was done tending to Alice.

Once their conversation was over, Lunatea, still unable to sleep, made her way to the outside. She used her monster strength to jump up the largest tree in the courtyard, scaling her way upwards one branch to the next. The tree’s trunk ended in such a way that she could use it as a makeshift seat, which she proceeded to do only after she stood on it—her gaze sweeping through the forest that surrounded the temple.

Nothing seems to be amiss…

Her dress fluttered in the night wind, flashing her panties to the world yet again. However, it was a completely natural event, not created by the panty’s power. After all, no one was there to look at her.

She sat down, letting her legs dangle to the side. Closing her eyes, she let the breeze caress her skin as her mind traveled elsewhere, back to her homeland. Her family.

Mother… Father… Do not worry. I’m safe here. I’ll make you proud by becoming the scholar you always wanted me to be…

The truth was—she never really told them where she was going. The only letter she gave them said that she wouldn’t be home for a while as she would be joining a long-term research group that would take her to foreign lands. If she had told them where she was going, they might just tell her not to go. And she wasn’t sure if she could spit on their concern. Especially her mother. She had always been really good at playing the innocent, defenseless wife that just wanted the best for her children. If she had to see her teary puppy eyes, her resolve to go would be broken. She was sure of it.

As such, here she was, embroiled in a conflict without them knowing.

I’ll apologize once I get back.

Hmm? What’s that?

Something on the ground caught her attention. She narrowed her eyes, trying to make out what it was better in the dark.

That’s… that’s a person! And they’re injured!

Without hesitating, she jumped down the tree, landing on her two feet flawlessly before making her way to said person.

It was Alice.

She watched as Takeshi dressed up her wounds. She was never good at that kind of thing. Any wounds she sustained she would just heal with her magic.

Wait.

“Hey, do you want me to heal her with my magic?” She offered to the young lord.

The wererabbit raised her eyebrows at him freezing. “What are you doing? Are you not going to take off her clothes?” She sighed. “Seriously? This is not the time to be shy, you know. Her life is in mortal danger.”

“Do you want me to take over?”

Io at Terauchi Temple

Io bowed slightly to Ayu as she greeted her. “Of course not. Only invaders. I know the importance to the locals," she reassured her. Upon further thought, she went ahead and added, “I’ll try to keep them out of sight and away from the village. They make the living uncomfortable.

Though sometimes they make people uncomfortable not necessarily solely because they’re undead.’ Io mused to herself, looking over the zombies. ‘I will need to find some concealing robes. They might not draw as much attention that way.

Io wanted something local for them. She wasn’t must of a seamstress herself, which should have been obvious to anyone who saw her own ragged clothes. And using magic to create clothes… Just seemed wrong to someone like her. “Ayu. Is there someone who makes clothes here? It would be best if they had something to cover them up, at the very least.

After the encounter at the abandoned house, Io felt like some shopping would be a good chance to rest. She hadn't done such a thing in a while.

Liliana's plan to take out the surrounding Varjans was solid in theory, but any warrior got tired. Wings beat slower, arms got heavier, and reflexes got slower...slow enough that she was caught off guard once more with a Varjan leaping atop her. Just before they could land a decisive blow however, Liliana would knock them off balance with a kick to the gut and get back to her feet. If it weren't for Shizuka's timely intervention, the fairy knight might have been a pincushion thanks to the surrounding soldiers.

"I'm still in the right amount of pieces, thanks!" Liliana would say, more than thankful for her samurai's sharp skills and blinding speed. ...In fact, it was starting to get embarrassing the longer the mission went on, since it felt like Shizuka was a one-man-army. Still, she had to imagine he had a weakness of some kind...maybe a killer stomach ache after a long battle, or a weird sneezing habit. Still, even he seemed to be getting worried by the odds stacked against them, to the extent of suggesting a plan that flipped every mischievous instinct in the fairy knight's brain. "I like your plan! Up we go!"

She'd give Shizuka the time he needed, parrying a few Varjan arrows as he prepared his explodey-projectile of some kind. Probably as simple as an oil soaked cloth on a crossbow bolt but eh, explodeys are explodeys. By picking Shizuka up and under one arm, Liliana would take flight, holding her blade aloft and pointing it at the sky. She figured some support magic would do them good right now...maybe even get them out of here faster! Of course, when the glyph actually manifested in the air and Liliana recognized it, an immediate look of displeasure crossed her face...until she saw that the glyph of Summon Cow was right above Fatal Pulse. She could live with that.

Another cow would once again grace Fatal Pulse, this time hurtling towards him as a damn good distraction while Shizuka took his shot at the crates. Liliana would then fly away once the bolt hit, wanting to get plenty of distance while the cow caused mayhem. "...So um...just wanna let you know, usually its like a one-cow-a-week thing, not a twice-a-day-thing."

For the most part, the journey toward their destination was largely uneventful as Kerry and her teammates took the scenic countryside of Shizuyama. However, the tranquil sightseeing came to an end as a male villager made a mad B-line toward them, disregarding the fact that they were a group of mamono.

"You there, yokai! The Varjans have them! The invaders took our house...! Just by the river! They captured my parents, but they're still there! Please save them..."

"Don't worry, we'll do what we can to save your parents. Head on over to Terauchi Temple, you'll be safe there.", spoke Kerry, reassuring the young man as the group proceeded toward the captured abode. Upon arrival, they would the see the large dwelling and surrounding property occupied by Varjans......and they weren't caught slacking.

"Shit, I think they're onto us.", she cursed, hiding with the others behind an outcropping. "Anyone got any ideas? Skar, I can throw you into the mix and I'll follow you up. We can distract them while Yuki and Sam look for the hostages."

Allowing Lilianna to lift him up into the sky, Shizuka began charging his Kaminari technique with his free hand. A distinct crackling sound came off of his hand as electric ripples began emitting from it. Although, he winced a bit at the act, thinking to himself.

"I had used up more chi in this battle than I wanted to. Keith was more of a threat than I thought, and I had no way of knowing about that strange substance. Don't like to think how that would've turned out if you didn't bail me out. I feel I've quite the burden on you today, Lili-san." He said with a self-conscious tone.

He's appreciation was interrupted when Lilia casted another spell. However, as before, it appeared to be a summoning technique. And the result was...another cow...

Shizuka looked at his fae comrade with a blank stare, the expression was rather comical actually.

"Well..." He replied. "I certainly hope it would be an everything day occurrence. Anything that will aid in distracting Keith is appreciated, but now I have to deal with possibly harming an innocent animal in the process..."

Feeling they were far enough away at this point, Shizuka aimed two fingers at the crates and let loose a large lightning bolt that lit up the vicinity. In an instant they struck the crates and hopefully the intense energy generated would create the desired reaction that would facilitate their escape.

Terauchi Temple

Both having awoken rather late the next morning, the sisters would both find no sign of Skarsneek anywhere. Atsuha made a face after realizing the implications at his absence.

"That...That jerk! I bet he left off on some quest with some of the other taskforce members! Uuugh, the nerve! He could've at least waited til I woke up or left a note or something!" She continued rambling, her face contorted in a cute pout while steam was practically teeming from her ears.

"Um, nee-san, please calm down now. I'm sure Skar-san hasn't forgotten about you. We are here on business after all, sometimes our duties may have us split up you know?" Hinami said, trying to ease her sister.

She may have chosen the wrong choice of words, that caused her sister to into even more of a tirade.

"Spl-Split up?! You don't think he's being unfaithful, do you?! He said he liked spiders, he wouldn't do that. I mean, I don't think he would, but some of the other members are attractive..."

Hinami began sweating nervously, having made the situation worse. She then noticed that Luna seemed to be concerned about something; Alice had returned back to the temple, but she appeared to be seriously injured.

"Nee-san, I think they might need your help!" She said, snapping Atsuha out of her stupor.

"Oh my, I believe that's one our new teammates. That quest might have been a bit more than she bargained for..."

Atsuha made her way over to Takeshi and Luna. Luna appeared to be arguing with him in regards to taking off her clothes so as to treat her wounds.

"My goodness, first thing in the morning, and all ready we have all this racket. Takeshi-san, if you're too inexperienced in this sort of thing, then please more over and let the adults handle it." She scolded him, taking out a talisman. She held it over Alice as a green hue emanated from it. It then dissipated as the green hue enveloped Alice's body, slowly healing her wounds.

As she continued to heal Alice, she turned to Luna and Takechi. "By the way, Sorae seems to have a lead on her family's assailants. Hinami and I were going to assist her in her quest. I was wondering if either of you wanted to tag along with us. Of course, I still owe a debt to you as well Luna-chan."

Luna turned, facing the newcomer to the scene. Before she could explain the situation, Atsuha already took out her talisman and used it to heal the wounded girl. “Hmm… so she can use healing magic as well…” the wererabbit mumbled under her breath.

“If you don’t mind, I’ll help you with the healing.” She told the spider girl before reaching forward with her hands, letting them hover over the girl. She then whispered under her breath, the skirt of her dress fluttering as the panties underneath channeled its power into her.

“Sorae, huh… I suppose I could go with you…” She gave the jorogumo an affirmative look. “Someone needs to make sure that Sorae person doesn’t do anything stupid in the name of her vengeance…”

Uncharacteristically silent, the demon boy looked from the oni girl who looked quite like him back to Kerry. A blank expression on his face "Mhm," he nodded "Sis and I will find those watchamacallits' and get them out of here." deciding to 'tease' the oni on her striking similarities, the male monster tried to emulate the goblin and poked his tongue out playfully at Yuki.

"Right sis?" he giggled, Sam still hadn't quite a good grasp on humor or anything like that. Still he was trying to fit in with the team, although arguably his methods were a bit misplaced but his heart was in the right place.
