Once the fastest man alive, Hermesโs body remembers what it once meant to go that fast. He is capable of withstanding great g-forces, and his stamina and lung capacity are quite impressive. Heโs built for speed, and he is eternally grateful that his divinity is still present in a way such as this.

Leading souls to the river Styx was a duty Hermes was incredibly fond of; the conversation was always interesting - in his personal experience, mortals had often led lives more worth talking about than his fellow deities, though back then, he would have never told them for fear of being laughed at. Hermes had a fondness for mortal heroes. Especially fond of Odysseus and Perseus, Hermes helped them both extensively during their journeys. Many of Hermesโs teaching to the mortals were done in an earnest attempt to give the mortals more way to teach him. He gave them the alphabet so they could share their stories, he gave them the lyre โ made from the shell of a tortoise Hermes had raised himself โ so they could play more music. Of course, as the chief herald of his father Zeus, Hermes was the center of many adventures himself. He fought the many-eyed monster Argos, and freed Ares from his imprisonment at the hands of the twin giants Otus, and Ephialtes. As a god, Hermes was always focused on having a good time. He was a prankster, he played tricks on mortals and his fellow Olympians. He stole from the others, and always managed to laugh it off. In a lot of ways, Hermes never became an โadult.โ Unlike many of his fellow deities, he never took a wife (though this didnโt stop him from fathering more than a few children), and he spent much of his time with mortals. When the fall came, Hermes was almostโฆ excited about it, in a way. There was something inexplicably enticing to him about joining the mortals in their adventures. And this time? He wouldnโt be an all-powerful god. Hermes was like them. There was something almost comforting or freeing about being on the same level as them. He loved their stories, he loved their food, and their songsโฆ it wasnโt the same as what heโd heard on Mount Olympus, butโฆ they were different to him, not worse. And thatโs what made the difference to him. Learning of the Tree, Hermes was excited. He could spend more time with his mortal friends, could watch their families grow and explore the world. The mortals wanted to travel, and expand, to learn more about their world and what secrets it held, and Hermes was delighted to watch! There was always some new discovery happeningโฆ Others in his situation found themselves questioning how the mortals would do without their gods, but Hermes found bliss in the answer: the mortals thrived without them. They certainly made mistakes. Great engines of war were always the first application they found of a new technology, but Hermes didnโt subscribe to the laughable idea that he and the other deities had never made a mistake. They made them often. As time passed, Hermes only really found himself missing one thing from the time before the great Fall. He missed the speed, he missed the way he could travel from place to place in the blink of an eye. He ran, and he ran often - perhaps it was cheating, but Hermes had found it hard to care when he participated in the revival of the Olympic games in the year of 1896, and was awarded several gold medals for his performance. He found winning in the mortal races to be one of the greatest feelings of euphoria he had ever had, and it became an important facet of his life. Over the years, Hermes has claimed a win in many races in the mortal world - Tour De France, Le Mans, Daytona Beach, the Isle of Man TTโฆ to him, the most important technological advancements the mortals had made were those that gave him the rush he craved from the old days. Motorcycles, fast cars, and most importantlyโฆ planes. Hermes loved planes, he loved the ingenuity of the mortals who invented them. He placed himself close to their development, with an intense fascination. He wanted to be a pilot, and in recent years - the last few decades, he has become a very decorated Aviator Captain in the United States Navy under the callsignโฆ Hermes. He has situated himself in Southern California. He doesnโt want to lose this identity, but he knows time is running short - he can only lie about his age for so long, unfortunately. Somehow, someway, Hermes wants to once again go as fast as he did when he was a god. โ f ั ฮฑ ั ั โ Fear is a difficult feeling for Hermes to come to terms with. The truth is, he has lived a long and fruitful life - and has come to realize that there isnโt much left for him to fear. The thing he dreads most in this world though? The passing of another of his precious pets: the Tortoises he keeps at his beachside home. |
