Howdy! I'd like to join.: Ascendant Collective.: Cybernetic humans. The extent of augmentation varies, with most civilians only having a few implants. Specialists in assorted fields, such as the military and in industry, are difficult to discern from machines. As time goes by, these lightly augmented humans are dwindling rapidly as the population becomes increasingly robotic.: Cybernetic collectivism. While each individual still maintains autonomy, they are at all times made conscious of their present objectives designated by their superiors, carrying them out with a strong sense of purpose.: As a new power in the galaxy with only so much territory in their hands, territory carved out of backwater systems of the Earth Alliance at that, their military is comparatively quite small. While some Earth Alliance weapons systems are still in use, they are in the process of rearming their nation with indigenous designs. The rapid industrialization that went hand in hand with the cyberization of the rest of their society has given them appreciable production capabilities, but it is still not enough to fully ensure safety from any would be enemy of the revolution. While they have a few advantages due to their cybernetics and extensive usage of neural-interfacing, these qualitative advantages are insignificant compared to the overwhelming quantitative advantage any potential adversary would enjoy. Many Ascendant vehicles are guided by cybernetic brains, with the most committed and skilled soldiers being transferred to these “war forms”. Ships and ground vehicles such as tanks, walkers and so forth are essentially just larger scale cyborgs, and fanatically devoted ones at that, willing to abandon any semblance of humanity to safeguard their people and homeworlds. Not all opt for such extreme augmentation however, and there are still more conventional elements of their military force organized much like their pure human counterparts.: In the outer reaches of the Earth Alliance there were those who sought to exploit the chaos during the Draconian War in order to advance their ideologies. Each failure, especially in the case of the destruction of Earth itself, gave more ammunition for the demagogues. The Ascendant Collective is one such movement in this period that happened to succeed. Their movement advanced the idea that in order to survive and evolve, mankind had to abandon their flesh and adopt mechanical forms, embracing technology to make them superhuman. This ideology readily took hold among the handful of systems that make up the Ascendant Collective today, in part due to the race to fight particularly destructive alien diseases which had spread through their corner of the galaxy. As the body count rose, the desperation to find a solution also increased. The Ascendant Movement achieved power almost entirely without bloodshed. Very few resisted augmentation and those that did tended not to last particularly long, the new government not even bothering to oppress them as their deaths to the diseases were certain. When their path towards independence was complete, they severed communications with the rest of Alliance and remained isolated, only recently emerging once more as a greatly changed, rebuilt nation. While they are not hostile to the Earth Alliance and other pure humans outside of their relatively small domain, they regard these outsiders with apprehension and paranoia. They have overcome their plague, but it remains uncertain if they can hold onto their newly carved out nation. Much deliberation presently occurs on the issue of their relatives in the Earth Alliance, with no consensus yet being reached on how to approach them. While they may consider themselves superior to humans and simultaneously fear what the Earth Alliance’s reaction to their transformation will be, they still view them with respect. As their brothers and sisters, any talk of conflict with them is treated with great reluctance. Ideally they wish to convert more to their cause not through conquest, but through demonstrating the virtues of their way of life. Some cynically ponder if this is just because they know they could not hope to compete with the Earth Alliance militarily, however. Cautious thinking is presently favored.Aliens are met with similar suspicion, but are also being considered for the purpose of forming alliances and other treaties beneficial to the Collective. On the flip side of things, they are also perceived as the greater threat.
