Just some proposed relationships for the characters. I assume that they all attend the same, relatively small high school, and at least know each other.

I've added a few locations to my New Hope 0th tab on the OOC; the Mencia Bakery, the Moore Clinic, the Malcolm Family Cafe, and New Hope's First Bank. If my descriptions need tweaking for any of those let me know, I pulled from the backstories to keep the locations in one cohesive list. If I missed anything on my quick re-skim this evening let me know, I just knew for sure off the top of my head I needed to add those places.

Ok finally got back from work. I can make my responses now and go on the hunt for a character picture.

That formatting looks eerily familiar. I wonder why that is? 🤔 I'm kidding... I don't care. If anything, I'm flattered.

I should have credited my devious format thievery. But yeah it looks good, imitation being the highest form of flattery and all that.

...Which also leads me to you @Jumbus. Besides being fellow studing council members, there's some potentially interesting dynamics on how they're both facing pressure from a parent and the different ways they deal with it.

Yeah I noticed and I think it could lead to a really good connection. I can imagine something along the lines of them being good childhood friends but the emerging different approaches to their common issue has caused a rift in recent years. While they are still friends, the looming idea of what happens after school ends is always there.

Let me know what you think. I took a good amount of liberties with it, but I like the idea

@Jumbus Rowan Moore: Audrey could be her bad influence. I can see her feeling bad for the pressure she's under, and try to get her to unwind. Possibility backfiring when Rowan gets in some kind of trouble as a result.

Yeah I like this. I imagine Rowan being a reluctant participant in her adventures, constantly saying to authorities that she is keeping it from getting too out of hand. But in truth, she does enjoy it and Audrey can sense that without Rowan displaying it outwardly.

Got a character in the works. Older teenager who is obsessed with two things: english, and getting out of town to live in a "real" city. Hammering out the details, I'll get the sheet posted within 24 hours or so. Figure every small town slice of life-ish anime needs a hallmark movie arc.

Open to any planning of interactions or character dynamics. Assuming the student council isn't full, he might fill out as one of their rank to help his chances of getting into a better college.

@Cassette I dig it; you built in a drama for me to work with for the time skip, and built in your own reason for him to have a deep draw to the village despite being an outsider. Approved, just keep communication up for the potentially antagonistic antics he may get into between the other players should those situations arise. Probably doesn’t need to be said but I’m covering the bases.

Hey, you built up on my suggestion, so yeah, that's great. Works for me.

Damon Howard: In general, she probably finds him vapid, but they might commiserate about being in the Shitty Dad Club.

Lol, fair; he does care for his image. Also, membership in the unofficial Shitty Dad Club accepted.

@Cassette Elias Jensen: Elias and Audrey could be natural friends. She knows the best thrift places in and around New Hope, and if they get close enough that he confides some of his and his father’s past, she's not one to pass judgment on it. They could share clothe alteration techniques, and have a similar style.

A few additional Audrey notes:

Her mother's name is Tamsyn. That's in the CS, but I've changed it a few times so I just want to mention it officially. Tamsyn immigrated from England; like Tom Springer she is also mixed(white and Pakistani). She works as a bartender at the local watering hole.

Tom Springer has a older model Ford Mustang, he bought it when he first enlisted, but it’s been largely neglected until lately, when Audrey has made a habit of borrowing it.

I appreciate all the interest in this so far. It gives me nostalgia for my early days of the hobby. I’ve got good vibes from the crew and characters. Later this week I’ll likely open up an initial sandbox scene for people to roleplay in as others finish up their characters. From there I’ll set a deadline to finish any character applications, and after that I’ll set the scene for the Summer Festival and begin the Prologue proper.

Think our guys' families would have beef, but the boys could be (unlikely?) friends. Also, though I didn't write it, I figure Damon would be a part of the student council.

That would make sense. Ambrose's mother probably hosted a small fundraiser or awareness banquet and managed to rope in the founding families that wished to come. There was an unspoken rivalry there. Ambrose and Damon would have definitely run into each other, but the rivalry doesn't transfer over to their children. Just like "oh hey, a kid my age and generally close to my status... neat."

Maybe they have that sort of friendship that has verbal jabs. To give up the appearance that the families don't really care for each other, but it's all in good fun.

Ambrose Hightower: The rich, conventionally attractive, popular boy is definitely not the sort she'd normally hang with, but she finds his self awareness endearing, and also definitely loves a himbo. Strong possibility of unlikely friendship.
Slight possibility that they have fooled around.

I will willingly fall on that sword of being the town's best himbo. What if Ambrose's mom needled into his head that he needed to make friends with her due to her father being a disabled veteran? Maybe trying to find a cause to champion that seemed humanitarian. Ambrose, the ever-willing pawn, agreed. Though he quickly found out that that wasn't a great route, and his mother moved on to other things. Maybe their first few meetings were ripe with disagreements and misunderstandings. But when Ambrose purely admitted fault and that he was more than aware of the privilege he carries, they could have an easier conversation. And I'm down to clown, more than happy to have said they have fooled around. Conventionally attractive himbos can't sit on the shelf gathering dust.

@Teyao William Mencia: I don't know if Ambrose and William would have a reason for their circles to have overlapped. But considering the small size of the town, they've at least run into each other. It's fair to say that Ambrose definitely has looked at his art and not understood a damn thing about it. Maybe led to a misunderstanding where he honestly seemed to be insulting William's talent, but was just having a problem with the discourse around it. So, maybe he avoids William afterward. Just a thought, I'm down for any other suggestions.

@Jumbus Rowan Moore: You think that maybe Rowan would have tutored Ambrose? I mean, even though he has money... he still needs to get into a prestigious college even if it's by the skin of his teeth. Family obligation and all that, which I'm sure Rowan understands even though they're worlds apart in the semantics.

@Cassette Elias Jensen: I'm sure there's a lot that a grifter could do with Ambrose, or he could do nothing at all as he is a big fish. I don't want to step on your character's toes in regard to their relationship, but I can't imagine they'd be friends. Iunno. I am open to suggestions.

And that brings me to my last point. Apparently, we have some interest in the Student Council board. I vote Ambrose as Vice President. Just there to shake babies and kiss hands.

Honestly the easiest way to make a connection between them is for William to try a different club or group every week and at some point having met Ambrose in some of them, at least that's what I think, your suggestion is funny too tho.

@Teyao William Mencia: Ball might be in your court for this one, I don't have a great idea. I will say that Audrey is never deliberately mean for no reason, but she can come off as abrasive, so it might depend on how William takes her attitude.

I think that as long as the comments are not purposely mean as you pointed they could get along fine enough.

Ok here is some of my own character connection proposals

@Jumbus Rowan Moore: You think that maybe Rowan would have tutored Ambrose? I mean, even though he has money... he still needs to get into a prestigious college even if it's by the skin of his teeth. Family obligation and all that, which I'm sure Rowan understands even though they're worlds apart in the semantics.

Yeah I like this. I can see Rowan seeing some sort of duty in tutoring someone from the Hightower family. Although, I do think Rowan would dislike a lot about Ambrose outside of that. Particularly the claim of needing to get into a prestigious college despite her knowing that Ambrose is not cut out for it.

Is that all good with you?

@myrkwise Toby Springer: For a connection, I can imagine Toby would also be strung along in some of Audrey's antics that involve Rowan. I can imagine they know each other from that, but hardly the best of friends despite their similarities. If that is within character for Toby of course. Let me know what you think

@Cassette Elias Jenson: I imagine a scenario where Rowan is out adventuring the woods and comes to her favorite spot only to find Elias there. That would be Rowan's first proper introduction to him. Despite having a good chat there, that was a couple of months ago and the two haven't really talked much outside of that.

Let me know what you think.

For all other character, I haven't forgotten about them. I like all characters here so far. Rowan is a pretty introverted character so I can imagine there is quite a few kids in town she doesn't know all that well.

Alright I ironed out a tentative timeline.

Tomorrow (The 11th) I shall open up an initial sandbox roleplay period. This will encompass a time nebulous and vaguely ‘Before The Summer Festival’ while school is out.

The deadline I’m setting for applications will be the 21st (the Saturday after this one).

From there, I will start the Summer Festival and segue into the beginning of our Prologue; this will hopefully occur around the 25th, but will be no later than the 30th.

@Fading Memory Thank you! And no worries, I won't overstep my mark regarding any shenanigans with other players' characters without prior permission or talking through it first.

@Gisk That's a good shout! There are some interesting overlaps between Audrey and Elias that he'd be comfortable with her. Especially since their contrasting temperaments would be a fun exploration. However, he'd unlikely share much about his and his father's past, being conscious of trying to avoid a breadcrumb trail should anything noticeable in town go missing. Of course, there's no way that such a thing would happen in a respectable and decent little town such as New Hope. Nothing at all. Heh. 😬

@psych0pomp I also can't imagine they'd be friends (yet, at least). Though I also can't foresee Elias attempting to pull anything on Ambrose due to acknowledging that Ambrose doesn't appear to be that sort of rich kid. Of course, Elias isn't free from his own flaws - despite him and his dad trying to make a go at living a normal life (again) - of denying itch at the back of his skull that he's in proximity of a very wealthy teenager.

@Jumbus This was also something I was going to suggest since I can imagine them having these momentary interactions of coming across each other when out in the woods. So, yeah, this works plently for me.

Though I haven't stewed over any connections between any other characters yet, I'm open to suggestions. And I'm open to any connections someone's family may have with Elias' father, Nicholas, since he's currently working as a jack-of-all-trades tradesman, taking on whatever jobs come along and may have built up a reputation of, "Oh, hey, you know you who should call to fix that up for you?"

Hah. Yeah. That's an easier story. Definitely, someone that Ambrose has seen around and goes "oh hey it's Winston." A very vague familiarity.

Works for me. Because Ambrose is definitely getting in via nepotism. Maybe even a building pops up at the university called Hightower Hall. But he has to put in a bit of effort. Yeah. Boy. That would suck for Rowan. Terribly sorry.

I also can't imagine they'd be friends (yet, at least).

Sounds good! Could be potential in whatever happens between them. But yeah, I too was having issues connecting the dots there. The only other thing I could think of was Elias vying for "most attractive" in the school. Ambrose... is mildly conceited, and somewhat competitive. Anyway, I'm interested to see them interact!

@myrkwise I don't know how I honestly missed your CS. Please forgive me. Toby Springer: That being said, I'm at a loss as to how they could get on, besides maybe their mothers becoming friends because independent ladies and all that. If that sounds good to you, Ambrose would definitely have an older brother vibe with her. Must protecc. Otherwise, I can't see them having a reason to get on.

@webboysurf Nathaniel Westmoreland: Honestly, probably the only person (so far) that Ambrose just wouldn't like. They are the exact opposite in regard to personality, and it probably frustrates Ambrose because he can't seem to find a connecting point with Nate. So, he probably gets testier about Nate's honest remarks than he would otherwise. He wouldn't bring up Nate's background, but he would probably say something condescending like "manners are free, you know." How does that sound?
