Powerset: What kind of power(s) your character possesses. This can be ignored if your character has no abnormal powers of their own, as Equipment will have its own tab. I will also present an example here of how to lay out a powerset.

• Superhuman Strength - Guy has Superhuman Strength, able to lift several tons and break through stone with his bare fists.
• Superhuman Durability - Guy possesses Superhuman Durability, unable to be harmed by most conventional means, like bullets or blades.
• Regenerative Factor - Guy can regenerate from most surface-level wounds within minutes, and broken bones and the like can repair within a few hours. Deeper damage, however, can prove more lasting.

Equipment/Paraphernalia: What kind of gear your character has; for tech-based heroes, this is where the meat of your powers will come from. For others, it might supplementary. This is also where you can put more minor objects and bobbins they carry on their person, like personal affects and the like. As with the Powerset, I will provide an example.

• Gold Medal: Guy always keeps a golden medal he was awarded during his track days in high school.
• Giant Hammer: Since Guy is extremely strong, he decided to use a massive hammer that would be completely unwieldy for most others to use.

Weaknesses: Weaknesses is exactly that; the flaws in your character, whether emotional, physical, or technological. Point out weak spots in their powers, character flaws that can be exploited, or vulnerabilities in their gear that could be detrimental. Like before, an example will be provided.

• Arrogant: Guy has grown very self-absorbed due to his unbelievable strength and durability, making him easy to bait and anger by prodding his pride.
• Hammer: Guy has become very reliant on his hammer, so disarming him makes him a far less competent combatant.
• Simple Powerset: While Guy is strong and tough, that is all he is. There is little nuance to his powers, which means he's very simple to outmaneuver or predict.

Appearance: Cassius is usually seen with very trendy street attire, ranging from air jordans to levi jeans, he takes great pride in what he wears, rocking some popular beats headphones, he tends to be listening to them when alone, finishing off with what appears to be some very stylish lightning burn marks on his jacket, mapping out a proof of the extent of his powers that he wears as a badge of honour hidden in plain sight. Whilst under the name Galvanize, his hair shoots up, instead of his casual spiky loose hair, injecting white streaks of hair into his look, a static energy envelops him with tiny bolts of lightning travelling, scattering randomly around him as his eyes match that electric blue, the calming eyes in the midst of the storm.

Personality: Just like alternating current (AC), his demeanour shifts periodically, as we wields both his calm and relaxed composure, to his outgoing almost over-confident display, most of the time you see him not caring about situations that he thinks can be handled without him, but for the more perspective of the bunch, he always has his eyes sharpened to interject if necessary. Usually seen lost in his own little world taking photos, posting and interacting on his social media, he tends to show a lot of pride when it comes to his following.

History: Being the child of Storm and Nightcrawler, great things have always been expected from Cassius, when his powers came to him at a young age, his parents had very different plans for him, whilst Nightcrawler wanted him to have a very leisure and relaxed life away from being a mutant, Storm wanted to nurture it and have him grow into his coming responsibilities, jumping from training and school life, switching between two worlds Cassius felt as if he didn't feel at home in either one, until he starting taking things into his own hands, as with age we wanted to live his life his own way. His innate charismatic nature grew him a very successful schooling life, whilst also landing him a modeling gig, making a good amount of money and giving birth to his social media footprint, avoiding his calling throughout a long time, but as most know, there are things that are just inevitable.

When Thanos invaded Earth and managed to collect all 6 infinity stones, leading to the infamous snap that eradicated half of life as we know it in the existing universe, and fate would hold no punches back towards Cassius' life, for he did not only lose one parent, but both, reduced to nothing but mere dust, without even a chance to say goodbye, Cassius felt more lost and alone than ever, spiraling into a frenzied rage and depression, drawing all of the lightning into his body, he bolted right through the night sky fleeing New York City to an isolated holiday house they had in the countryside in a neighboring state, to mourn the loss of his parents in segregation.

After a few days of grieving, he returned back to a chaos-ridden city, The once vibrant metropolis had become a playground for criminals both armed with countless lethal weapons, and some with their own superhuman abilities. With every corner hiding a new threat, the city's skyline is a battleground of skyscraper clashes and frenetic energy. The NYPD, overwhelmed and understaffed, waging a relentless battle to maintain order in this bedlam of an urban jungle, being weakened by every wave of superpowered crime that threatens to engulf the city. Amidst the turmoil, a small, dedicated group of heroes fight valiantly to protect the city. Their numbers are few, but their determination is boundless. Yet, it's clear that something more is needed to tip the scales back toward justice, and only a matter of time before they too are overwhelmed and defeated.

For years, Galvanize has lived a quiet life, keeping his extraordinary abilities hidden from the world. But as New York City brims on the edge of destruction, he can no longer stand idly by, as he feels the coursing rush of adrenaline shooting through his veins, the static shock building on the tip of his hair, and the words that he remembers from his mother: "Remember, my child, greatness flows through your veins, do not deny it, embrace the tempest within, my son, for within every storm lies the power to shape worlds. You are not defined by the thunder that echoes through your veins, but by the lightning that sparks in your heart. The world hungers for a hero, and you carry the legacy of storms. Galvanize tapped into the tempestuous energies of the sky above. His eyes crackled with lightning as he summoned the fury of a storm that would make his mother proud. Rain poured in torrents, winds howled, and thunder rolled, lightning arcing from his fingertips, he wielded the storm like an extension of himself, as he rallied to his peers, an extra pair of hands to them was more than welcome, he rapidly lept into action, sending their enemies flying and crashing into buildings, stunning others and neutralizing the more dangerous of the mass, but it was more than just his mastery of the storm that set Galvanize apart; it was his unwavering determination and belief in the hero within himself. With each flash of lightning, he carried the legacy of his mother's courage and the weight of the hope of his city and its citizens. In the heart of the chaos, Galvanize and his superhero bretheren emerged victorious, defeating the criminals and restoring a measure of order to the city, yet this was just the start, for crime lurks at every corner now, he had his work cut out for him. With his powers honed and his resolve unshaken, he had broken his shackles, and his restraints, and become the hero he was destined to be, forging a legacy that might in the future even rival that of his mother.

Time having passed, and after many years of fighting, without really any direction, apart from the cries for help, Galvanize gained a lot of experience fighting, yet he still lacked cooperation and tactics when it came to others, his attacks would affect a large area and it was hard to pinpoint his lightning attacks, and at times it was clear that he almost hit his own allies, he had to hold back many times, he felt that his powers were being dulled down by his own incapability of controlling them. When the events of the snap were reversed and balance was restored, he was finally met with his parents, holding them dear to them, he had noticed although his father, Nightcrawler, was ecstatic about finally being returned to his son, his mother however, seemed lost, having been faced with the reality of being gone for 5 years, 5 years of her enemies roaming amok, 5 years she didn't see her son grow into a fine young man, without a single thing she could have done, the empress controller master of weather herself was losing herself to her own shattered mind, she fell into a hole of depression, an abyss that no light could enter, yet Galvanize took his mother into his arms and promised her not to worry, that he will fix everything, he will get stronger, faster, and ultimately, he promised to surpass her one day, so that he will recover all those years the world had lost her, and what better place to start than the new and upcoming academy?

Powerset:

• Lightning Creation - Galvanize can easy produce lightning from his own body, using it both offensively and defensively, shooting out lightning bolts, and other means of attacks.
• Lightning Reflexes - Galvanize’s body is energized with his own unique electrons, making the signals that his brain sends to his body near instantaneous, following the motto of one of his most cherished idols:
  

  “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”

• Lightning/ Electric Manipulation - Galvanize can utilize the existing electricity that resides in our modern world and weaponize it or even rejuvenate himself, empowering his attacks or altering the electric machine/ equipment to turn on, off, or activate its action properties, and in very rare moments, weaponizing natural lightning itself.
• Hyper Bolt - Concentrating all of his lightning into every cell of his body, Galvanize can dematerialize and shoot himself out into god-like speed, reaching up to Mach 364, in other words, from one point of New York city to the other (35 miles) in half a second, but with so much power, comes equal strain, as as he stands now he can only pull this off for around 5 seconds, risking straining and exhausting his body if pushed beyond his limit.

Equipment/Paraphernalia:

• Iphone 19: A special custom-made Iphone with lead plated inlinings to protect the phone from being constantly fried on the spot whenever he surges with powers.
• Air Jordans: A special durable material being stitched into the material of these fashionable sneakers, making them both extremely conductive without wearing down the shoes.

Weaknesses:

• Irritable: His pride is very important to him, Galvanize’s psyche isnt the sturdiest when it comes to insults or being shamed, lashing out irrationally at times getting him to trouble.
• Durability: Even though landing a blow on Galvanize with his lightning speed, his body is only a little above average in terms of durability when it comes to direct force.
• Field Experience: While Galvanize is strong and has practised his moves many times, he has very little experience actually in the fray of real life situations where he has had to think of teammates, civilians, callatatole damage, etc.

Issue #0/Testing Post:
In the heart of the bustling New York City, where skyscrapers reach the heavens and the energy of urban life surges through the streets, a local diner that had become over the years a sanctuary for a young Cassius Munroe. With his charming smile, playful demeanor, and a secret identity known only to the closest friends, Cassius was the epitome of a carefree adolescence. Today was supposed to be just another day of ordinary fun with his college friends.

The diner was bathed in warm, golden light, and the smell of sizzling bacon and brewing coffee filled the air. As they entered Cassius exclaimed: “Order up peeps, this one’s on me, not like Barry brought any money with him anyways” he and his friends occupied their usual booth, laughing uproariously as they indulged in mouthwatering burgers and thick milkshakes.

His laughter was infectious, and it spread like wildfire through the tight-knit group. They talked about their upcoming exams, weekend plans, and inside jokes only they could understand.

Outside, however, chaos erupted suddenly. A supervillain, known as Typhoid Mary, known for her destructive prowess, had decided to unleash her malevolent tendencies upon the city. The street was a battleground, with Mary wreaking havoc, and as quickly as she came, so did the cavalry, as several seasoned superheroes appeared to thwart her sinister plans.

“Well, that’s new york for ya, can’t go 10 minutes without someone who didn’t get enough attention as a kid trying to run amok…”

As the commotion outside escalated, Cassius's friends couldn't help but stare in awe at the epic confrontation unfolding before them. The blinding flashes of energy, the thunderous crashes, and the distant cries for help painted a vivid picture of the superhero world's constant turmoil.

But Cassius, though capable of extraordinary feats, was different. He had a burning desire to leave his superhero persona behind for the majority of his day and simply revel in the joys of his youth. He had never had the push nor drive to jump into the fray, and the constant pressure to save the day, and the never-ending cycle of heroics, was never something that attractive to him. He longed for a sense of normalcy and the ability to savor the simple pleasures of life.

One of his friends exchanged glances, torn between their admiration for Cassius's heroic alter ego and their understanding of his desire for peace. He knew that Cassius was one of the city's brightest beacons of potential, but they also recognized that he was just a young adult who deserved a break from the relentless drama that accompanied his dual life.

“They’re doing fine, to be honest, I think they are holding back, they always do”

As the world outside continued to tremble, Cassius's internal struggle intensified. He stared at his friends, his eyes filled with a mixture of regret and longing. Deep down, he could hear his mother yearned for him to join the battle, to use his powers for good and make a difference in the world. But today, at this moment, all he wanted was to be a regular guy, laughing with his friends in their cozy booth, and savoring the fleeting joys of youth.

In the end, Cassius decided to remain at the diner, where laughter, friendship, and the simple pleasures of life were a respite from the chaos outside. He knew that the world would always call upon him to be a hero, but for now, he just wanted to be a kid, relishing a moment of tranquility amidst the storm of superheroic duty, as it came into an inevitable stop as Typhoid Mary was stopped in her tracks after an intense battle, luckily no one was hurt, but there was still a coiling knot in Cassius’ chest, as he whispers to himself: “Sorry ma…”.

Heimdall is Sigurd's father. A man who has helped raised the boy from a young age. While it was difficult to keep up with the young boy's life, Heimdall tried his best, often leaving his sister to guard Bifrost when the time was necessary. Sigurd holds deep respect for the man and hopes to one day live up to his expectations,

Evelyn is Sigurd's mother, and he cares very deeply for her. She has done everything to be supportive with her "Little Soldier Boy," even homeschooling him so he could explore Asgard more. It deeply upset Sigurd when she was snapped, but now that she is back everything is fine. He also really respects her work in helping other Asgardians when times get tough. Especially since she tries to be an ambassador between New Asgard and Midgard.

Sigurd's loving aunt, and effectively his second mother. Lady Sif has been around the boy effectively his entire life, either acting as a babysitter for him during his trips to visit Asgard, or as a training mentor for combat and Allsight. She was there for him when Heimdall died, and even more so when his mother was snapped. It was even Lady Sif who suggested Sigurd pursue going to this academy, feeling as if it would be best for him to explore and train on his other capabilities.

Also, yes. Despite the very close relationship, Sigurd always prefers to call her Lady Sif.

Due to Brunnhilde having such a close working relationship with Lady Sif, Sigurd has often met with Brunnhilde. Doesn't help they often met and talked while Lady Sif was playing babysitter. She was even an instructor for Sigurd during his time in bootcamp, though that was often spent alongside her work in helping found New Asgard. Brunnhilde even went on to become its leader for a bit of time, before stepping down to work at the academy. She was around to help so much with Sigurd's life that, if Lady Sif could effectively be a second mother, Brunnhilde can be an aunt.

While being a good friend of Lady Sif, Thor and Sigurd have rarely interacted personally. However, Sigurd has heard plenty of heroic tales about the Mighty Thor, either from his mouth, Lady Sif, or even his mother. Sigurd often looked up to Thor as a very heroic figure, which is why it was hard on Sigurd when Thor was depressed during the snap. However, he always held on to those beliefs, and, once the fight with Thanos was over, he held grand respect for the old leader.

Sigurd has met this person the least amongst everyone else on this sheet. However, during the times that Sigurd has met her, she left a very good impression. She worked alongside his mother to try and support New Asgard, and has now recently taken up the mantle of The Mighty Thor after Odinson decided to leave. Her heroics have been inspiring, and something Sigurd hopes to strive for.

While Bill is a good friend of Lady Sif, and he has been known to hang out with her a fair amount, Sigurd does not really know him. While this is very similar to Thor Odinson, Sigurd does not know as many tales about the heroic alien who could also wield Mjlornir, and even has Surtur in a blade. Sigurd respects the... man? for that. However, to Sigurd, he is just an acquaintance at best.

Ragnar is Sigurd's oldest and closest friend from Asgard. They have gone through so much together, not only serving bootcamp and countless training sessions, but also joined forces in defending New Asgard. They are both guardians of New Asgard, often keeping watch over the city, and helping those in need. Ragnar is much less serious than Sigurd, and will often call him out to loosen up some.

Sigurd does not know what to feel about the new leader of New Asgard. She has not done anything to personally dislike her, but he has heard countless stories told to him via Lady Sif of her nefarious deeds. While she got the position due to good behavior and having a watchful eye kept on her, something doesn't settle right leaving the hands of this second home to someone like her.

Personality: Hazel is nothing if not confident. She treats herself like she’s the biggest person in the room, and always acts like she’s the person to beat. There is always a smug, knowing grin on her face when danger tears its head, because Hazel doesn't take a challenge lying down. Unafraid to speak her mind, or take initiative when it counts, is a free spirit at heart. She likes to do her own thing, set her own rules and regularly bristles against stern authority figures who try to change that. In her own opinion, she has a right to be cocky, on account of her knack for strategy and quick-decision making in combat training. Unfortunately, this doesn't bail Hazel out of the fact that she's also a bit of a troublemaker. Hazel has a temper that gets her in trouble, from fist fights to climbing over fences to trespass in somewhere very dangerous. Hazel always tells herself she can get herself out of these situations, and so far, this has held true, but it's only a matter of time until Hazel gets herself into too much trouble to get back out with just a defiant attitude.

History: One often expects superpowers to give one a good life of being surrounded by like-minded individuals and living in a cool superhero lair. That was not the case for Hazel. She was born in California, to a single mother that had absolutely no idea how to raise a kid. She tried her best, but Carla Jackson was only human. Growing up, Hazel and her mom rarely saw eye to eye. They both tried, but Hazel's mind was fundamentally different from hers, so she understood things that Carla couldn't, and could outthink the woman in a million different ways that meant arguments rarely ended with a compromise. They were just too different to get along much, no matter how hard the two tried. This was the case as Hazel went through school as well. Everything was easy as a kid. Her teachers thought she was one of the usual "gifted" kids that needed to be put in higher grades. This never actually happened, because Hazel thought it was stupid. Everything was dumb, and ridiculous to her as a child. She couldn't relate to others, and just had no motivation to really do anything. Her teachers always fed her the same "Wasted potential" speech, but this only dampened Hazel's spirits further. High school was only somewhat different, because Hazel stopped caring.

It was around this time that Hazel's mother began to suspect there was something unnatural about her. They were driving to school one day, when Hazel grabbed the steering wheel faster than her mom could react, and quickly hurled them both safely off the road, swerving right and around a tree with incredible accuracy. Naturally, Carla panicked and didn't realize what had happened until she saw the car behind them, which had tumbled and crashed into a building. If it weren't for Hazel's borderline precognitive reaction, they both would have died there. This, combined with the constantly flawless scores Hazel used to get in school where others struggled was enough for them to suspect she was a mutant, or perhaps some other type of superhuman. This was when Hazel began to test her newfound "powers," going out and seeing just how intelligent she was in the dead of night by sneaking into junkyards, taking whatever looked useful and building incredible things with it. Carla wasn't sure what to do, but Hazel made her keep this discovery a secret, something she agreed with for Hazel's sake. Emboldened by this, Hazel's troublemaking tendencies grew stronger. For the first two years of high school, Hazel barely scraped by, only doing the bare minimum without any difficult, and spending most of her time hopping fences and playing with technology in the garage.

One day, social media caught wind of someone flying down highways at midnight on a floating motorcycle, barely able to see the red blur of its lights as it weaved through traffic at blistering speeds. Police tried to catch the driver, but how could they when its top speed was about 120mph? Ultimately, it was an Avenger who caught up with her, and put a stop to her antics after a stern conversation. Apparently, Carla finally caved and looked for answers to her daughter's extraordinary abilities, and got the attention of someone important. Hazel was given a chance to leave the frustrating life she had and learn how to be a superhero. Hazel wasn't the cape and spandex type, but she didn't feel like she belonged anywhere near her home, so she accepted the opportunity after a few weeks of preparation. S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to dissect her bike, to understand how it worked, but she wouldn't let them anywhere near it. Hazel hasn't looked back so far, but some people aren't entirely convinced that she has what it takes to fill the void left behind by the Avengers. Not that she's particularly stressed...

Powerset:

• Superhuman Mind: Hazel’s was born with a downright inhuman level of intelligence. Her brain processes information at an absurd rate, her memory is flawless, and she can do advanced calculus in her head. Her reaction times allow Hazel to make split-second decisions where others would simply fumble, and she learns new skills very fast. Hazel’s best application of this, however, is building technological wonders that would make Tony Stark jealous. In practice, Hazel is a superhuman engineer, coming up with countless solutions to problems with incredible resourcefulness, all before she ever picks up a wrench. Hazel’s usefulness in a crisis is dictated heavily on what tools she brings, what she has at her disposal, and what she can sabotage if all else fails.

Equipment/Paraphernalia:

• The Vandal: Hazel’s pride and joy, a hovercraft built in the style of a motorcycle. The Vandal is powered by a plasmatic ionization engine, which routes power to three dynamic waveform thrusters for a potential top speed of approximately 178 miles per hours. Using geomagnetic resonance to power an internal Hall effect pulse drive, the Vandal can consistently operate for 18 hours before requiring a recharge, which can be done in five minutes.
  
  The Vandal is equipped with an onboard computer similar to the one found in most cars, only with Hazel’s genius spin put on it. This computer is used to plot directions, blast music, communicate with others on the move, and to run maintenance on the Vandal itself... And it has a second seat!
  Clockstopper: The Clockstopper is an energy handgun designed to act like a multitool. It features two firing modes: Disruptor and Stun. Disruptor mode uses ionic thrust to channel a graviton charge into a nucleostatic projectile. When this projectile collides with a solid surface, it explodes in a concussive blast of raw kinetic energy. The blast, while having no thermal or electrical properties, is strong enough to throw a person dozens of feet into the air.
  
  When the Clockstopper is switched to Stun, the projectile is repolarized to produce an intense flux field. This projectile discharges in contact to fry fragile targets, and irreparably devastate electronic devices. The weapon can be switched between functions on the fly, and has an effect range of 50 feet.
• Codex: Hazel’s Codex is a wearable, wrist-mounted supercomputer. It is powered by a gravimetric capacitor, contains two terahertz of processing speed, eighteen terabytes of digital storage, and an interactive, holographic screen that can be adjusted and moved in any way imaginable. The Codex can do the job of any other computer on the planet, and can theoretically be used to hack into foreign systems with a retractable nano-mesh cable. Though, Hazel typically uses it to play Minecraft and pirate tons of media.
• Holovisor: The Holovisor is similar to the Codex, in the sense that they’re both wearable computers, but the Holovisor is designed specifically for tactical use. A small, digital projector hooks around Hazel’s left ear, and produces a photometric screen, which cycles through various permutations depending on what Hazel is doing. The Holovisor can link with Hazel’s Codex, provide Hazel with night vision, zoom in to see up to half a mile away, and sync up with other devices like cameras for remote viewing. The Holovisor also has functions that allow it to detect virtually any type of energy, translate 7 different languages on earth, and record information to the Codex instantly.

Weaknesses:

• GPS Satellites, Unmanned Drones, Fucking Laser Sights: It is true that Hazel could easily outsmart her opponent by coming up with an absolutely absurd, unthinkable strategy, but Hazel prefers to use technology for that. Without her Clockstopper, Hazel doesn’t have a gun to shoot someone with. Without her Holovisor, Hazel can be blinded in a dark environment. When her devices are taken from her, or destroyed outright, that is one less tool she has at her disposal. She doesn’t have super strength or teleportation powers to bail her out, and there is only so much an exceptional brain can do.
• Hothead: Perhaps it's arrogance, or perhaps she has something to prove, but Hazel doesn't let some things slide. If you bruise her ego, she'll try to get even, and this temper of hers can lead her down some tricky roads, or to some reckless conclusions. It doesn't matter if it's something as simple as challenging her to a fight, or something as egregious as hospitalizing someone important to her. Get on Hazel's bad side, and you can count on her to make it your problem.

Testing Post

124 miles per hour. She could probably do better than that.

She flew down a desolate road, with a new helmet that she bought after making an ATM shit itself like a broken record. Hazel’s hovercycle hummed quietly, as she soared down the highway to test the new cycling sequence for the waveforms. It was like basic arithmetic to her. Hazel built this thing out of junk, and she yet it was already better than all the top-shelf cars that international manufacturers sold to rich people. She nabbed spray paint and hotwires used cars to make this beast, this Vandal into something she felt proud of. She could’ve made a massive profit off of this, selling technological marvels to the world for steep prices. People would pay those prices, if they were desperate enough, and Hazel would be a dozen steps ahead of them if they tried to corner her on the market.

But it all seemed like too much work. Hazel didn’t need to turn her hobby into a business. If she needed money, she could just open a bank account, and use her laptop to that script she was working on, which effortlessly hacked into the international banking systems to pay herself. That was a real challenge. It was feasible for her skills, but not easy. In the same way building her bike wasn’t easy. Looking down at the Vandal’s dusty display, it seemed she need to recharge. The clock read 2:37am. Shouldn’t take long, she thought.

Hazel swerved off the next exit, and throttled down to the normal speed limit. The Pacific Ocean was dark as the void between distant starts, barely reflecting the full moon. Hazel wondered what could be under the water, what she could discover if she challenged her “superpowers” to dredge up mysteries. She pondered this for all of three seconds, and quickly glanced at the faint light moving across the sky overhead before pulling up on her bike, and launching off the road, down to a clearing where she drifted in a half-circle, soaring over a flood-canal and into an industrial area under construction. Here, she came to a stop, opened the legs on the Vandal, and stood.

The Vandal began absorbing energy from the planet’s magnetic field. Hazel took her helmet off and stared up at the stars. If she wanted to, she could’ve built a spacecraft out of a school bus, the Vandal’s engine, and a few plates of scrap metal. Hazel could go out there and leave this whole planet behind if she set her mind to it. Her mind gave her a hundred different possible configurations for such a vessel, and then swept them away with a blink. The world was hers, but there wasn’t anything in it that interested Hazel. If she wanted a challenge, she could hack into the Pentagon. She could try to hunt down the traces of the father she lost to the Snap, and could barely remember. But her mom wouldn’t approve of either of them. No, she’d just tell Hazel to live like a normal human being, one who couldn’t solve quantum equations while half-asleep.

Two more minutes. Hazel walked around, and looked out at the construction underway. With just a quick glance she saw three different places that the incomplete hospital’s rebar would inevitably snap in. The night was cold, and Hazel could see her breath in the faint moonlight. She wanted to believe that Carla was worried sick about her, but this was normal behavior. She had a pattern of calling at midnight and asking when Hazel would be home, and if she should even leave the door unlocked. Hazel couldn’t feel anything other than jaded at the fact. One minute left.

Hazel began walking back to the-

”Can’t sleep?”

A voice disturbed her, and barely finished its sentence before Hazel was already twisted around, staring a metal suit down like a possum. A Gatling gun hunt off one shoulder of the suit, and a pair of crimson red eyes saw right through her. War Machine. What the hell was he doing here, talking to her of all people? Hazel froze, counting the seconds in her head until she could hop on the Vandal and leave him in the dust.

”I’ve been following you for a while now, Hazel. You’re fast, but you’re easy to spot.”

That light in the sky was him. Fuck.

”So what do you want with me?”

War Machine’s face slid away, revealing the human underneath. He walked up to Hazel’s bike, admiring the thing. ”Pretty cool ride you’ve got here. Friend of mine would’ve been impressed. S.H.I.E.L.D. Knows about you. Your mother’s been worried real bad about you, lately. Bad enough that she made it my problem. I can’t say I blame her, but that’s not all I’m here for. She told me about this. How you have a superhuman intelligence, and how you’ve got no interest in doing anything here.”

Hazel’s face scrunched up. Her mom fucking went behind her back and dragged a fucking Avenger into this. ”And?”

”Take it easy, kid. Look, normally, I wouldn’t come here and give you the talk I’m giving you. But the guys who keep the world from ending heard about a kid genius building superbikes, and this became more than just you making trouble. See, S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t want you just running around with that thing-“

Hazel took a step out in front of the thing in question, ready to drop down on the seat and bail. ”I’m not handing off my bike to a bunch of suits, sorry.”

”Well, that’s fine, because I’ve got some news for you. I checked a database before coming here. You lost someone who didn’t come back after the Snap, right? You’re aware things aren’t the same anymore. That they probably won’t ever be. You’ve felt that.” There was a note of downtrodden sentiment in War Machine’s voice, which Hazel picked up on.

Bringing up her dad wasn’t helping his case.

”…I’m gonna let you in on a little secret here. The Avengers don’t exactly exist right now. We’re scattered, and one day, they’re gonna be needed again. The ones that are left came together and made a place for people like you. They want kids like you to train with them, and be the next superheroes that stop the world from ending. It’s far from here, and you won’t have to worry about whatever it is that keeps you up so late.”

Hazel’s head tilted back a little. Some kind of superhero camp? ”You want me to go off and join another Avenger Initiative? I’m not exactly Spider-Man.”

”That's what we all said, and then Thor’s brother wrecked a city.” A look of humor flashed across his face.

”Look, it’s your choice. But one way or another, someone’s going to come looking for you. Maybe the next world-conquering maniac wants you to build his doomsday weapon, and he’s not taking no for an answer. Or maybe you get caught up in something, and then I have to come and take you by force, along with your ride. There are others like you. People who have it rough, people that want to challenge themselves, or are just plain brave enough to put on the suit.”

”So if I say no, you’re just gonna come back eventually.”

She thought it over in her head, running a mile a minute. Hazel ran through a thousand different reasons why she shouldn’t accept this offer, and another thousand reasons why she should. Ultimately, she came up with a thousand and one, and made her choice

”Okay. I’ll go.”

War Machine smiled, clearly pleased. ”Good. A lot easier than I thought it would be.”

She shrugged. ”Between you and me, there’s someone whose opinion I actually give a shit about. And I don’t think she’s really my biggest fan right now.”

”You think this’ll change that?”

Hazel looked off into the distance, past trees, buildings and the moon. Somewhere, a door was unlocked.

”Yeah. Probably.”
