Perhaps this will help:

That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime

The guy who he asked to "take care of his computer" is later seen throwing the plugged in desktop into a full bathtub.

The World's Finest Assassin gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat

He's not the first one she's brought over, either. But the goal remains the same - they must kill the hero. So far, the others have been stalled or failed.

So I'm a Spider, so What? (spoilers)

After an explosion wipes out the entire classroom, most of her classmates wake up as the sons and daughters of nobles. But our title character Kumoko was reborn as a spider....

Admittedly, I've been watching a lot of isekai lately, with a couple I'm currently watching in my queue, so I'm already familiar with this trope. I was briefly involved in a reverse isekai where creatures from a fantasy world wind up in New York City and must come up with some sort of life.

Personally, the more successful roleplays I've been a member of here and elsewhere had some sort of goal. In some sandboxes, I had to provide that goal for myself and had other players join in. So, as a suggestion, one of the two gods in this world has some sort of goal, which on the surface feels reasonable. But the way they intend to implement that goal is against the beliefs of the other. Of course, there's no knowing who's right or wrong, here. (It may be both are right.)

And there's something preventing direct interference, so they are forced to recruit outsiders as their intermediaries.

But are the players going to start as babies, or are they taking over the recently deceased?

Just some thoughts.

Agreed. I've seen open-world/sandbox type RPs do well in some ways, though, by throwing down several "mini-adventures" instead of trying to weave some grand narrative that combines every Player's backstories and goals. For instance, re-fluffing a DnD one-shot or using one of the internet's "random generator" sites to populate a Skyrim-esque bandit camp. Then the GM can just build off that--maybe the bandits' lookout is a lone goblin who runs like a coward to save his own skin, and he ends up running into the Players again after he's evolved into a bigger and badder hobgoblin, now leading his own gang.

My own character's goals are probably just going to follow Maslow's hierarchy--probably with "inadvertently become a warlord" under "Esteem Needs," lol.

In sandboxes, it’s generally important for players themselves to have individual goals, yeah. Equally important would be for the GM to then be flexible enough to provide challenges towards achieving those goals, or things would just be very solo-adventurey real quick.

Considering it'll be a sandbox, where every reincarnation has their own goals, ideals and desires, the idea of a unified and cooperative group working together is very unlikely in my eyes. The more likely scenario is that circumstance and plot-devices will force the players to band together for short periods of time to overcome some kind of larger-than-they-can-handle-on-their-own issue, before breaking up and going their own ways again - or possibly engaging in PvP if their beliefs and ideals are in direct conflict with one another.

At least, that's what I figure. Of course, people might make characters who intentionally share views, values and whatever with one another in order to cooperate and interact.

Close to what @Xaltwind said is my vision. While it’s largely sandbox, bear in mind this is a worlds where the respective gods can -and will- intervene should there be a need. So there are ways different characters could meet and interact. Plus Otherworlders are more likely to have contact with said gods since they’re the reason said Otherworlders are here in the first place.

But are they all being reborn as babies? Might be some time until they're up for adventuring.

Also, not sure why the god is also bringing people over. Seemed to be a real "the gods help those who help themselves" type.

I mean, it's right there.

One day, Morganna took notice of how certain people in our world were having their lives cut tragically short. Feeling pity, she decided to reincarnate these people in her domain, giving them new bodies so they may continue their lives anew. When these "Children of the Otherworld" were discovered to have great potential for magic, creation, and destruction Drasil took notice and sought out Otherworlders of his own to challenge his sister's creations.

One did it out of pity, the other did it because his sister did.

@Expendable No they’d be reborn the same age as they died. I thought I spelled it out in the interest check, but it started as Morgana (the light god) having pity on souls who died “too early” in our world. Drasil (the dark god) only took interest when he saw the Otherworlders had a higher aptitude for magic and other such abilities after being brought over and he wanted to one-up his sister.

Definitely caught my interest with this one.

Out of curiosity how weird can the bodies otherworlders get stuck with be? Are they generally humanoid like the examples given or can they be more varied than that? I'm a big fan of exploring the perspectives of things that fundamentally experience and interact with things differently from humans and think it'd be fun to play a former human trapped in a body like that.

@TheMushroomLord Considering the anime that inspired this RP literally had a human get reincarnated as a ball of slime there’s a good chance there will be some more “odd” options.

As a note to everyone else, my schedule is finally starting to normalize again so you should expect an OOC post very soon!

I like this idea and I even like the creative challenge of getting stuff assigned to me. But my big concern right now is actually this talk of it beng a sandbox. I hope there will still be the chance for regular character interactions because if I wanted to just write about my character doing cool stuff on their own, I'd write a story. I'm here to RP lol

You could just seek out other player characters and interact with them on your own initiative.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about this too. I'm hoping I'm not alone in planning to have my character take actions that will hopefully and intentionally put them on other Players' radars--if any of us start doing things like carving out our own territories, managing villages, or clearing big dungeons within the setting, I'm hoping that will ripple outward and attract the attention of other Players, maybe even NPCs. Of course, the trick will be in getting that attention without starting wars or being chased out of town with torches and pitchforks, lol.

I mean I'd argue it's still RP even if no two player characters ever interact with each other so long as you’re still interacting with the same world at large, but I totally get what you mean. Chances are sandbox or not I'll end up seeking out other players pretty quick.

As far as getting player attention IC, I'd like to point out the common ground of being from modern Earth is a good place to start – depending on how common Otherworlders are/how widespread Earth knowledge is, that is. I’d imagine rumours of a genius traveller bringing innovation with them wherever they go, would stand out to an otherworlder if all those “innovations” were clearly just modern knowledge.

Build tanks out of wood and stone, fueled by magic and then have your goblin toadies pilot them!
