Skarsneek of the Red Hill

From the blurred vision of his eyes, Skarsneek could only catch the tail end of the fight as Na’kratz finally fell.

Being laid flat on his back and blood oozing in small droplets, Skarsneek took a moment to recover with deep breaths.

Once the world stopped spinning, he sat back up in relief.

“Well, that went better than expected. We’re lucky he chose to be an idiot.” He muttered at the close brush they had, if Na’kratz chose differently, It would’ve been them that’ll be on the ground dead.

Small mercies, he suppose. Skarsneek touched his forehead and flicked the blood away before looking at them. “Everyone alright?”

“I suggest we get ourselves patched up, we’re gonna need to move fast. There’s still a fight to be won.” Skarsneek groggily got up to his feet, moving to the fallen sorcerer and unceremoniously tugging at his helmet.

It took a few tries but once Skarsneek managed to pried it off, he’ll spin it with one finger before catching it.

He’s not gonna cut his head off so a helmet would do.

“Hmm? This? Well, you’ll see.” He smiled cunningly to his comrades, no need for further explanation as he walked outside confidently with Na’Kratz helmet in hand.

Once he does, he’ll raise the helmet theatrically and arms wide open.

“Na’Kratz is dead! He roared loudly and felt his throat burned. “Your leader is dead!"

---

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Receiving such a noncommittal answer, Gringor only shrugged his shoulders and left things be.

Moments after he turned and left, something slammed his head hard enough from the back that he fell face-first into the ground.

Gringor's mind stopped working, as he tried to reason himself how he ran straight into a wall. Did it snuck up onto him?

Only when he lifted his head from the ground and looked back as his fingers rubbed the back of his head, Gringor noticed the crossbow bolt and come to rest at Keith who had a crossbow in hand.

“Funny joke,” Gringor said with a smile, though there was none of the eagerness nor sincerity in it as he cracked his neck and rolled his shoulder back. He then marched towards Keith, axe in hand instead of shoulder this time. “Here, Gringor has a joke. Dead funny joke.”

BREAKTHROUGH

"Give it to 'im Whimsy! Please!"
Liliana

Another wave of magma spewed forth from Liliana's magical sword. The Varjan Elite was, indeed, stopped dead in his tracks as the molten rock washed over him and instantly encased him solid.

With that Varjan defeated, the warrior Fairy turned her attention to the remaining stragglers. A few Warriors and Brigands left, all of whom still had courage to try their lucks against Liliana and Ayu. They approached with axes and swords drawn, but something happened that caught all parties' attentions.

“Na’Kratz is dead! Your leader is dead!"
Skarsneek

The remaining Varjans beheld the helm that Skarsneek raised, and immediately believed the male Goblin's words. They all dropped their weapons and scrambled away as fast as they possibly could, screaming and sobbing as they vacated the fortress town. They did not even spare their fallen a single glance and soon, all the Varjans who could leave did so.

Ayu patrolled a few of the streets and saw no more signs of the Varjans. At least, any who was still awake. Their occupation of this town was undoubtedly over. The spymaster could barely contain a laugh. "We... we did it! We did it! The Varjans are gone! We did it, taskforce! We've liberated Komatsu Bay! The Varjans are all gone!" She yelled at her yokai allies as she rejoined them.

Her echoing shouts did not go unheard. The Shizuyamans that had the unfortunate fate of living in the brief Varjan occupation began emerging from their homes. They were beaten and battered, covered in wounds and bandages. But there was light in their eyes, hope born from Ayu's yells. The Shizuyamans of Komatsu Bay all gathered around the taskforce over at the manor, whispering and wondering if what they were seeing was true.

"Did they... defeat all these Varjans?"
"I... I think they did."
"Unbelievable... These are not normal yokai."

"These are not your average yokai." Ayu addressed the crowd, striding to them and motioning at the taskforce members. "They are the Taskforce! A mighty band of powerful yokai, here to destroy the Varjans! Sunder their armors! Shatter their weapons! Sink their ships with a flick of their hands!" Ayu entranced the peasants with quite the showmanship, hyping up the taskforce.

Ayu's tone and confidence in her tall myths inspired even more hope from the crowd. They whispered to each other for a moment before all bowing at the taskforce in full gratitude. Ayu had a satisfied smirk as she stood beside the liberators of Komatsu Bay.

“Here, Gringor has a joke. Dead funny joke.”
Gringor

"Really? Can't wait to hear it~"

The mercenary stood his ground as Gringor approached, tossing away the crossbow and putting his hands on the hilts of the swords strapped to his waist. Gringor could almost see the smile hiding behind the mercenary's mask. Whoever this warrior that Varjo hired, he was not afraid of the male High Orc or his axe. Gringor will need to watch out for any tricks up the merc's black sleeves.

Terauchi Temple

~ @AzureKnight (HIN & ATS), @Enkryption (ALI & CRL), @The Irish Tree (EUL) ~

Takeshi was left in the dust at the entrance to the temple grounds when the Hangai sisters went after someone who blinked past the arriving group. The young lord could not be completely certain, but he could swear it was Alice whom the sisters chased. Takeshi wanted to follow, but the yokai were too fast and his horse was nowhere nearby. He could only sigh as the yokai taskforce seemingly troubled themselves with each other again.

Shortly after the Hangai sisters left, Takeshi would see that Eula has returned. "Oh. Hey, Eula. How was your search with Sorae? Did you get that girl Kana back?" He greeted the Automaton. "I just arrived here myself along with Kikyo and the Hangai sisters plus some prisoners we freed. But, uhh, I think I saw Alice leave in a hurry and the sisters went after them sooo... there's that. Kikyo and the prisoners have already went inside."

Before any of them could speak more, the spellcaster Revuel Arvida approached out of his armor and wearing only crimson robes. "Ah, Lord Takeshi. I'm glad you've returned safely. Greetings to you too, Madam Eula." Revuel nodded at the Automaton. "May I have you privately, milord? I have news for you regarding the Sir--"

But Revuel was interrupted when the Hangai sisters returned with Carroll and an unconscious Alice. "Ah, the Sir Alice. Thought of the devil, it seems. I have some words for-- Oh, he's knocked out."

"Uhh, why do you refer to Alice as if she's a guy?" Takeshi asked.

"Because that is the truth of it, milord." Revuel answered. "For you see, Sir Alice and Madam Kerry has... made love to each other recently." The spellcaster revealed, but decided not to go into the important details. That would be up to Kerry or Alice. "They are, by all accounts, a couple."

"Two women loving each other does not necessarily mean 'husband and wife'." Takeshi frowned as he pointed out.

Revuel spent a moment forming his words. "Well... Sir Alice possesses the male organ so I went with that conclusion."

Takeshi's frown disappeared and raised an eyebrow. "And you know this... how?"

Now, the spellcaster was at a loss for words and decided to pass the ball. "I... think it would be best if Sir Alice explained it to you himself. As soon as he wakes up, of course."

---

The warm waters of Shizuyama's hot springs never fail to relax the nerves and ease pains. As the Hornet soaked in them, she would overhear two peasant women passing by.

"...You know who drove away the attackers of this temple?"
"Yes, it's the yokai taskforce... led by the Island Lord's son."
"Wait! The Oja who survived Sanjo Beach... is young Lord Takeshi?"
"The one who defeated the Frozen Ridge Bandits when he was sixteen."
"My brothers couldn't stop talking about it... Then there's hope for us."

"Hmph. Sounds like the locals are finally starting to believe.", Kerry commented as she soaked in the warm springs, hand caressing her stomach. "There's light on the horizon, Gywn. It's starting to look up for us..."

Still....as time passed, her hopeful smile withered into a concerned frown as Revuel's words of caution haunted her mind.

"Staying? Madam Kerry, you do realize this whole island is a warzone, right? Places like this Terauchi Temple are safe most of the time, but it is hardly a home for you and your family."

"Not to mention that you, yourself, the bearer of the child, will also be in danger. A hit to your stomach can do irreparable damage to your unborn."

"You don't think I know that, dude?, said the hornet out loud, leaning her head back with a hand over her eyes as she vented out the fear and anxiety she's been holding on to since finding out she was pregnant. "It was so much easier when all I had to worry about was myself. But now? With this war raging and, if liberating Komatsu Bay is successful, battles are going to get harder and more dangerous. I know the risks, dammit. I know that every time I step onto the battlefield, if I'm not on the ball......If I don't bring my A-game....If I make one errant step or slip-up, it won't just be my life that's lost. I'll lose.....I-I'll lose....."

Kerry stifled a sob as she took a deep, shuddering breath. She couldn't finish that sentence. Didn't want to. And for a few silent seconds, wondered if it wasn't so bad to just go find Alice and convince her to just leave right now.

Then she shook head, clearing away those fear-driven thoughts.

"Just.....relax, Kerry. You're stressing yourself. It's bad for the egg.", she said to herself with chuckle. "Take it one step at a time, one day at a time."

Removing her hand from her eyes, the hornet into the clear sky.

"Besides, if Alice can find hope here, then surely I can."

With that, Kerry closed her eyes, enjoying her time in the springs as she imagined greener days.

Breakthrough

Komatsu Bay: @PaulHaynek @The Irish Tree(Lili) @Crowvette @Restalaan(Skars)

Shizuka fully felt his blade cleave straight through Na'Kratz's arm, along with making a large gash across his abdomen. The sorcerer's blood sprayed over Shizuka's chest, with a bit of it getting on his cheek. The ronin silently watched as his foe writhed in pain before crumpling to the ground with a thud. He wiped the blood off of his cheek as he continued staring at his motionless body, noticing that he still seemed to be alive.

"You should've used your free hand to break you leg bindings to make a last minute dodge. My attack had too much momentum and power to be blocked by your flesh and garb alone." He said coldly. He swung his sword to remove the excess ichor from it, then sheathed it in one smooth motion. He then turned to his allies, who appeared to be alright. Skarsneek stumbled to his feet, glad that the fight was over.

"He was indeed strong." He said to the goblin. "I would've liked to fight him alone to avoid any unnecessary casualties, but this wasn't the stage for that. Better to use the environment to our advantage."

As Shizuka delve more and more into these conflicts, he can fell himself slipping back into those bloody days. Days where constant killing elicited no emotion and were a daily constant. He wasn't a fan of it, but it didn't really matter did it?

He watched with curiosity as Skarsneek took the helm of Na'Kratz and began to walk outside with it, exclaiming that their show-called champion had been slain. His cheeky stunt worked spectacularly, as the morale of the rest of the warriors was instantly crushed and they scattered away like ants from a fire. Soon, the sounds of brigands outside were replaced by the whispers of the locals. Picking up Na'Kratz's unconscious body, Shizuka motioned for his allies to follow him out, and what they witnessed were all of the villagers gathered around them. They had concerned and intrigued looks on their faces, unsure of what to think of the taskforce.

That's when Ayu stepped in to help them decide.

Playing heavily into the role of, "hypeman", Ayu told them hyperbolic statements of the taskforce's power. Shizuka gave Ayu a look as she went into her hammy speech. It seemed to work, as the locals soon started singing their praises, and even bowed before them.

"I suppose that's that, then. Liliana, I hope you're no worse for the wear as well." He said to their reunited sprite comrade. He then went over to Ayu for a moment.

"Ayu, are you sure about this? This may have...unfavorable outcomes down the line if we're not careful. As for this brute." Shizuka motioned toward the defeated Na'Kratz on his back. "I believe imprisoning him would be to our benefit. We lost Kasseros in the previous attack. He's already told us the mastermind behind this whole invasion - A man named Serek'uar, known as the Sapphire Prince. Also, we've confirmed that Takeshi-dono's father, Oja Hideo, is in fact alive and is being held at Kaneda Castle. We'll have much to discuss once we return."

Liliana

[@Breakthrough Crew]
With victory secured, the human-sized Liliana couldn't help but puff her chest out proudly, holding Whimsy across her shoulders while her wings flapped, much like a dog's tail wagged when they were pleased. Ayu had definitely helped a ton but...finally, Liliana hadn't completely needed someone's help to win out here! The Varjans shattered without their leadership, and Ayu began to rally the people behind the task force, showing how powerful they were by uh...lets say "embellishing". Though, she had no doubt Gringor could probably break a ship in half by hitting it, or Io could do a big magic on one. Still, Liliana was yucking it up as praise flooded in, a happy blush covering her face as she lost her composed look and bashfully scratched the back of her head. "O-Oh please, please, no bowing! We're heroes, we do this because its the right thing!"

When Shizuka asked how she was, Liliana looked over herself and realized she was covered in mud, had a decent bruise on her face from that Varjan warrior socking her a good one, and overall looked like she'd been through the ringer...but, she felt fantastic. "Couldn't be better, Shizuka!" she exclaimed, before seeing the others emerge from the manor. "I just hope everything wasn't too hard on your end. You should have seen it! I was in a huge amount of trouble, but Ayu swooped in and was like, P'choo! Fwick! And bam, Varjans were dropping left and right, and then I was shooting spells like Wunanananana!" Liliana mimed the events out, eager to show how her and Ayu had beaten a lot of Varjans with just the two of them.

"And even before that, my Summon Cow spell summoned a really big strong guy! A minotaur! I bet he was the strongest minotaur ever, because he was shredding the barracks apart just by swinging his huge axe! It was like BAM! And I was like 'Now's my chance!' and I took out a half-naked guy who I used the Heavenly Strike on! That training paid off!" Liliana finally finished rattling on, panting from how out of breath she was saying all that before looking up, happy as could be. "But I know I made Queen Titania proud today! When Alice hears about this, she'll probably say like: 'Oh my!' And...other...royal things. But I can't wait until she comes back!"

Eula

The automaton returned, a melancholic look on her face before Takeshi spoke to her about her mission with Lady Sorae. For now, perhaps she should speak to Ayu privately before informing Takeshi about the map and Sorae's suspicions. "It went well. Varjans had captured her, but we freed her and received some useful information. But, we still need to verify the validity of it. ...E-Excuse me, Lord Takeshi. I'm running low on fuel," Eula said, unable to disguise a digital *BEEP BEEP* that announced Eula's stomach being emptied, the automaton hanging her head slightly and scooting away quickly, wanting to get a bite to eat.

Simple food was all one could expect in times of hardship, if any food at all. As such, Eula wasn't expecting the delightful pop of a pickled plum in her mouth as she bit into an onigiri, her dull eyes shimmering a bit as she analyzed every facet of the food before her. Salt, carbohydrates, caloric count, starch, water used to make the rice, where the binding seaweed was from...all of it was laid out as data points in her eyes, but what mattered the most was the how of the taste. Cooking was all ratios, after all. A teaspoon of salt, a dash of passion, and the heart to make something delicious. ...Right...heart...

Eula held a hand over her chest, remembering that memory Carroll shared with her. That breakfast of western staple foods, pancakes, bacons, eggs, sausage, potatoes...it had been a long time since she'd tasted what affection felt like. Her first friend, the adventurer that found her, he had broken bread with something as simple as hardtack and wine, but the campfire flavored everything at the start of Eula's life.

Clutching a second riceball in her hand, Eula would look at it and stand, wandering off to find Carroll. ...Perhaps...she was hungry too.

BREAKTHROUGH

"Ayu, are you sure about this? This may have...unfavorable outcomes down the line if we're not careful..."
Shizuka Kannazuki

Ayu smirked before replying, still looking at the awed crowd. "I think they liked it."

She then turned to face Shizuka who carried the unconscious, barely-alive Na'kratz. "We'll keep a closer eye on this guy then, since we lost the previous one. And no idea on who Serek'uar is, but the Sapphire Princes of Varjo are the most powerful spellcasters in the Varjan hierarchy. This Serek'uar must be a special one then, to be leading an entire armada. I... don't look forward to the day when we have to face him."

"And Lord Hideo is just in Kaneda Castle? That's... pretty close honestly. That's just at the border between Onrai and Saikoten." Ayu was genuinely surprised at the information. "I wonder why they hold him there..."

"But I know I made Queen Titania proud today! When Alice hears about this, she'll probably say like: 'Oh my!' And...other...royal things. But I can't wait until she comes back!"
Liliana

Ayu chuckled at Liliana's outburst of pride. "Indeed. Madam Liliana was quite incredible in the field. The Varjans didn't know what hit them."

A familiar, short and rotund figure then approached the gathered taskforce. "You did it, yokai! You did it!" Shizuka the swindler merchant congratulated. "I knew you could pull something like this off. Never doubted for a second!"

Ayu frowned at the merchant. "You tried betting money against them!"

"Ahhh, but that bet never went through, did it? Which means I didn't hold true to it." Shizuka the merchant tried to excuse himself.

Before anyone could respond, an orange light peeked from the horizon. Ayu and the other Shizuka had to cover their eyes for a second before beholding the morning sun. The night was over and the rain had stopped, the thick clouds have scattered to make way for a beautiful view of the dawn. Morning light shone brightly on the liberated port, which made Ayu chuckle at the coincidence.

She made no remarks on it as she addressed the taskforce. "Again, you did a good job here today, taskforce. I will be contacting Lady Kyouko as soon as possible so she can get her fleet here before the Varjans even think of retaking Komatsu Bay." Ayu started. "You should bring the news of Lord Oja to his son immediately. That said, you guys look battered so I won't oppose to any of you taking some time to rest and recuperate. I will stay here to greet Lady Kyouko's fleet and help the people get back to their feet somewhat."

"Lots of bodies to clean up too." The merchant Shizuka complained immediately.

Eula 039

Eula took off before Takeshi could respond. A moment of awkward silence passed before a concerned Takeshi spoke up. "I'll check in on Alice and see what Revuel is talking about. I'll see you all later. Do let me know if anything new comes up." And with that, the young lord also left.

---
~ @AzureKnight (HIN & ATS) ~

Watching Takeshi leave, Revuel was left with the Hangai sisters. "...I do not oppose entering relationships even in the middle of war, but taking to the bed to consummate them is a tad bit too far." The ex-Warlock complained, unaware of Atsuha's relationship with Skarsneek. "I suppose monsters can't help it. Some monsters even take to battle just to find a mate." His glowing eyes fell to the sisters whose appearances reminded he was before monsters. "...No offense."

"It is also puzzling to me that Takeshi shows great concern for the Sir Alice. Are they the best of friends or something? Maybe something more?" Revuel wondered to the Hangai sisters.

~ @Enkryption (ALI & CRL), @The Irish Tree (EUL), @Rezod92 ~

Eula had reached the stunned Carroll first before Takeshi, who arrived shortly after. "Oh, funny running into you again, Eula. Enjoying Shizuyaman rice, I see." The young lord remarked at the rice ball in the Automaton's hands. "And hello to you too, Carroll. Is Alice awake? I just want to ask--"

Takeshi, along with Eula and Carroll, all bore witness to the... compromising position that Kerry and Alice were assuming. The young lord gulped at the sight...

"..."

An arm each wrapped around Eula's and Carroll's necks, friendly headlocks courtesy of Takeshi. "Well, well, well! It seems our esteemed friends over here are quite busy! Why don't we leave them be for now and talk to them later?" The young lord suggested, attempting to drag the Automaton and the Cursed Sword away. "Really sorry, you two! Just pretend we never showed up, okay?" Takeshi apologized to Kerry and Alice as he tried to turn around with the two other monsters.

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

Its worked? Great Demon Lord, it worked. Skarsneek continued to held up high the helmet, even waving and shouting threateningly at the remaining Varjan that quickly turned tail.

He’ll loved to pursue them but as it is, securing the place was far more important. The stragglers will have to be moped up as bandits in the far future.

Hearing Ayu talked them up had him smiling despite the exhaustion and urge to just lay down as the headache grew.

Though his ears picked up the consequences of the monsters did jerked him up a bit as he considered it.

“Yea, but think on this, morale is low and they’ll need every bit of it.” Skarsneek pointed out to Shizuka quietly, “Also makes it easier to operate since they’re more likely to trust us.”

“I'm surprised they even kept him alive, Varjans aren't usually known for mercies. This is downright lenient compared to what they often” He replied to the topic though he had a few suspicion. "They must be trying to get him to turn by treating him well, or torturing him for information."

"Anyways, yea, let's head back," Skarsneek said to everyone. The raid turned out better than expected.

They might run into someone in the way back, but that'll depends on the task force. For Skarsneek, he was heading straight back.

---

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Gringor raised his axe sideway with a smile, this one had a spine!

Also like that idiotic sneaky and annoying Gobbo, adjusting his swing, he utilized the far-reaching length for a sharp horizontal strike. Aimed for the wrist since it felt suspicious to Gringor. He'll then follow it up with another flurry of strikes. Taking a slightly cautious approach to this fight.

After all, he also wanted to appreciate this fight for a bit longer too. The camp fight was way too fast for his liking.

Besides, he also has yet to show this person his own funny joke.

Io

[at the Breakthrough peeps]

Their combined efforts had defeated Na-Kratz, and through a clever play, they had even caused the remaining soldiers to flee. Io stayed in the back of the Task Force as they were lauded by Ayu, taking some moments to clean her face of blood and adjust her robe. She didn't want the spotlight, and the more friendly faces were already front and center, so it was a win-win for her.

After she had let the others draw the attention of the newly liberated Shizuyaman locals enough, she edged back to the group as they discussed the battle. Io returned just in time to hear Liliana vividly recreating the sounds of Ayu's fighting, and summoning a minotaur. Once again, the fairy's magic only seemed to make a mockery of logic, considering the significant differences between a cow and a minotaur, but Io knew better than to try to make sense of it by now. 'At least she made it out unscathed.' Io thought, noting perhaps the slightest bit of relief.

As the sun rose over the bay, Io pulled her hood further down to block the light from her eyes. "Returning quickly with the new information might be best... Even though the bodies so beautifully decorate the bay now..." A slight listlessness colored Io's deadpan voice at the thought of leaving behind so many corpses. She paused briefly in self-reflection, then added, "Perhaps it is better for everyone else if I don't stay here, after some thought..." Io deemed it better for the sake of the Task Force to not be tempted to do anything out of hand. She would handle some minor preparations, then be ready to set off with any other Task Force members planning on returning.

Liliana

[@Breakthrough Crew]
With everyone now gathered, Liliana let out a sigh of relief and let loose a big grin to follow it up. Even still...something didn't sit right with her.

...Oh. Right. The prisoners...she'd had to bury her disgust at seeing how grievously the Varjans had wounded virtually every prisoner. It reminded her of the time her wing had been clipped on a thorn, and she was so scared to show the Queen that she cried alone for six days, until Rosebud dragged her out to get healed. She was just a little fairy back then, and Rosebud had bloomed a month before her. Even if they were born to be Bladeflowers, there was always a swathe of difference...especially since Liliana was born at the bottom of the pecking order. Liliana, the Thirteenth and most cowardly Bladeflower, who always had to be helped by the strongest Rosebud. It was comical, and Liliana knew she was slowing her sister down but...

She was still never abandoned. That hand was always outstretched to her, wanting her to do better. And, well, Lady Alice was a bit...odd, kooky even, but she was a lot like Rosebud. Maybe they'd even be friends. And right now, Liliana had to think to herself: "Is just...fighting the best I can do to help Shizuyama?"

Smiling, Liliana would hold Whimsy in her hands and turn to their Shizuka. "Shizuka, um, I might sort of be useless for a bit after this, so...please, carry me back," Liliana said before raising her sword skyward. "Pretty please with sugar and sprinkles on top, Whimsy! Greater Healing! Take as much as it takes to do it!" Liliana's plea would cause the sword's eyes to roll if it had any, the faint green glow of the splinter sword growing bright and brighter, until small motes of green light started to fall from the sky, drifting slowly towards the prisoners who'd been maimed by the Varjans. Not one, not a single one would be left to mend their wounds themselves. It wasn't regeneration or restoration, but...for today, at least, she wanted today to be a complete victory. Their scars wouldn't ache, there wouldn't be promises of miracles unanswered before they left, and their wouldn't be trouble walking home. Whimsy was just spiteful enough that not a single one would grace a Varjan soldier, letting them taste their Just Desserts for as long as possible.

Collapsing backwards into the mud with a slightly pained expression, the fool of a fairy would shrink down, unable to maintain her Size Trick with her expended energy. Sinking just a little into the mud, Liliana smiled for as long as she held consciousness.

"Maybe...I could even go for the Fifth seat now...Rosebud...Lady Alice..."

Whimsy's glow faded, the sword itself seeming rather exhausted from the effort as it lay beside its master, both in idle slumber...a snot bubble even forming as Liliana snored on in the mud.

Eula

@Enkryption(CAR/ALI)
With the taste of the cursed sword still on her lips, Eula was in an unusually good mood until she felt the familiar presence of that fused form of Carroll and Alice zoom by, her eyes immediately returning to their usual melancholic gaze. "...I did say I believed in her but...isn't that a bad thing to see so soon after!?"

Shaking her head, Eula would follow the newly christened Dinah into the woods, nowhere near as fast, but still able to utilize her stun guns to augment her speed with small bursts of demonic energy output. She'd fail to arrive to see Dinah separate once more into her two halves, but was just in time to surprise Carroll by appearing from behind a tree, looking down at her and Alice for a moment, before suddenly sweeping her new lover off of her feet, beginning the trek to the temple once more...and, also, carrying Alice over her shoulder while letting Carroll ride in the crux of one arm strong enough to lift her. "...Just so we're clear, if you lose control of that form again, I'll shoot to incapacitate. Then make you eat 100 shrimp onigiri if you forget me again."

A miniscule pout donned Eula's stoic face, giving the slightest indication that she was just the teensiest, wittlest bit mad about them rushing out in the middle of nowhere and winding up exhausted.

Kerry had just emerged from the temple when-

WOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH!

"WHOA!", she exclaimed, the passing blur leaving windy trails that had the hornet spinning in place. Eula, who had also exited the temple, witnessed the event as well before going after the blur. Luckily for the hornet, her fast eyes managed to catch a glimpse of the being.

It was the pink haired woman again. From when Alice and Carroll accidentally fused.

Shit, does that mean...., Kerry thought with increasing worry as she looked to the woods, where the woman shot off to. Before fear gripped her heart, however, she shook her head to chase away those doubts and took a deep breath. No....No, that's not it. If she appeared again, then that means Alice and Carroll did it on purpose. In the hopes of gaining some form of control over that form, most likely. I....can trust them not to overdo it...

Kerry turned forward, managing to take a few steps before stopping, a deadpanned expression on her face.

Oh, who am I kidding? This is Alice and Carroll we're talking about here.

With an about face, she flew into the forest, following the same path Eula took. A few seconds later and....

"Why am I not surprised?

There was Eula...carrying an exhausted Carroll in the crux of her arm with an knocked-out Alice slung over the automaton's shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

"sigh....Here. You're carrying your idiot. Let me take mine.", Kerry said, walking over to Eula to transfer the mad hatter to her own shoulder. "This dumbass just earned herself a few extra bites for this stunt..."

She looked over to Eula, smirking.

".....But they're our dumbasses."

"I'm told your son has gained victories against my Varjans... with the help of yokai."

"I'm sure there's more to it than that."

"Hehehe... Ohh, you pretend we are different. But we fight for the same thing: To have a homeland free of the yokai."

"I've done exactly that with duty and honor. Kept order to my home, and justice to my people. You are nothing like me."

"And neither is your son... but his name is bound to your legacy."

"A legacy is more than a name."

"Ah, true."

"Your family has ruled this land since the beginning, yes? Your ancestral castle was your domain... until now. I look forward to making it my own, while I leave you here to starve to death. Alone, and pathetic. Let that be your legacy."

Komatsu Bay

The taskforce elected to all head back to Terauchi Temple posthaste. A decision that worried Ayu a bit, but ultimately respected. "Very well. Take care on the trip back to the temple. I'll be right back there too as soon as I can."

"And I'll be... somewhere. After this little stunt, I doubt I can do business with the Varjans anymore." The merchant Shizuka complained.

Before they left, however, Liliana cast a powerful healing spell that covered the vicinity. The crowd of battered and beaten villagers present watched with awe as small motes of green light fell from the sky. They recoiled when the motes approached and entered them, but relaxed when these small wisps did nothing but heal wounds and relieve pain.

With their health reinvigorated, the survivors of Komatsu Bay bid their taskforce saviors a more hearty farewell. Hopefully, this attitude will still be there when the Lady Kyouko's forces make landfall.

Shizuyama Wilderness

~ @Restalaan (GRI) ~

The mercenary bent backwards to avoid Gringor's horizontal swing, and continued deftly evading the attacks sent his way. All the while keeping his swords on their scabbards, making no move to retaliate. "If this is the joke, it isn't very funny or impressive." He taunted Gringor. His hands, however, were still on the hilts of his sheathed swords, ready to unleash them at a moment's notice. Possibly when Gringor finally has him cornered.

Terauchi Temple

~ @Enkryption (ALI & CRL), @The Irish Tree (EUL), @Rezod92 ~

Takeshi bore witness to the... strange fusion of Alice and Carroll that unleashed a powerful aura, and the subsequent splitting of them by literally being pulled apart by Eula and Kerry. The young lord mostly had no idea what exactly was going on, but it seemed the monsters did. He did know one thing, though: They were close to each other. So close, in fact, that his presence there was unneeded.

When Eula and Carroll left to be alone with each other and to leave Alice and Kerry alone as well, Takeshi also left as well. The young lord spared one last glance at Alice's unconscious form before finally leaving.

-

The peace did not last long, however, when the powerful aura from before was unleashed again and something blasted off into the forest outside Terauchi Temple. It was no secret to Takeshi on who that was, especially when Eula and Kerry followed not long after.

"Just what is going on here?!" A provoked Revuel approached Takeshi after speaking with the Hangai sisters. "There was not one, but two, waves of powerful energies washing over the temple! So powerful that even the lay people that are the refugees here are unnerved!" He then looked to the forest where the monster couples went to. "I saw the Madams Kerry and Eula leave. Should we follow them?"

Takeshi smiled softly. "No need. I believe they can handle... whatever this is. Besides, I'm pretty sure it's something very private between them."

Indeed, Kerry and Eula soon returned with Carroll and Alice.

A couple of hours later, the taskforce members who liberated Komatsu Bay have returned to Terauchi Temple. Takeshi's eyes widened when he saw them arrive, and quickly moved to greet them. "You've returned from Komatsu Bay!" He said as he approached. "And without Ayu. I assume you've actually kicked all the Varjans out of there and Ayu stayed behind to handle repairs?"

"That is probably the case, milord." Revuel joined the conversation. "Lady Kyouko has just informed me that she has engaged the Varjan blockade. Particularly, the section near Komatsu Bay. She would not do so if the port town is still under Varjan control."

"Then... then that means--" Takeshi could barely contain his excitement. "We're ready. We're finally ready to find my father and rescue him!" The young lord's eyes shone with hope. "I will gather the others and tell them of this news. Then we can... we can--

"Milord, please calm down." Revuel interrupted the almost-jittering Takeshi. "Let the taskforce have some rest first. Look, the Fairy is fast asleep and the Lich looks to be paler than normal."

"Y-You're right." Takeshi replied. "I'm sorry..."

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

"Hmm, feeling a lot better now." Skarsneek said as the fairy strained herself to do a final spell for the benefit of everyone. Not exactly wise since it'll just make her vulnerable.

Still, that it managed to affect the villagers was something he certainly isn't going to deny that it was helpful. Support was at least on their side for now.

Scooping the fairy gingerly with both of his hands before passing her to Shizuka.

"Here, she wanted you to carry her." Skarsneek nonplussed said as he packed his weapons together.

"Well, if you want to decorate using Varjan corpses, do it in front of their base. Scares and rattle them, after all, that's what they all say about us monsters anyways. So might as well take advantage of it." He placed a hand on Io shoulder at her comment.

"Just don't do it too often, otherwise they'll stop surrendering and start fighting to the death." Skarsneek pointed out after a moment of thought.

As they walked back, Skarsneek looked towards a certain direction for a moment before deciding against it. He just wants to go home.

---

Once he was back with everyone, Skarsneek waved lazily as towards Takeshi and...another person.

"Hey, you betcha! We took care of all the Varjan. Even bag this guy called Na'Kratz or something." Skarsneek played it off with a smile and a thumbs-up. "Ports open, and we can put the refugees over there. If they want to."

Hearing the back and forth, Skarsneek inclined his head at the sentiment of rest. "Yea, we'll need some time to rest. Sharpen ourselves and get some final preparations. Don't worry, if the Varjans didn't kill him on the spot, they won't be killing him anytime soon."

"Probably wanted to 'convince' him to join the Varjans. Not standard tactics but there's precedence. That's how they managed to grow so fast over the years too. So we got some time, they'll need to reorganized too since they lost the momentum." Skarsneek extrapolated further to Takeshi, giving him a slight insight to their enemies and calming him down.

Granted, he left out the details they might stop being sweet and start being really mean if Takeshi father kept being stubborn in resisting them.

Skarsneek however stopped one foot away from Reveul, looking at the man as he studied him up and down.

"Also, who are you?" Skarsneek asked with a raised brow, he don't recall meeting this person before.

Afterall, he definitely would've remembered. Considering this was a Varjan.

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Patient. Gringor said in between strikes, missing the air as he slowly figured out what's going on.

"Don't worry, you get joke soon." Gringor swung his weapon once, then twice.

Well, as that monk said, does what he do best.

At the last moment once he got closed, Gringor swung his weapon horizontally in an obvious manner.

Only with one major difference, he let go at its apex.

The axe spun wildly, forcing the mercenary to either dodge or deflect.

That was a distraction, as Gringor swiftly charged forward and tackled the man in a crushing bear hug. Dragging the two down into the mud for a fistfight even as he landed a few jabs into the liver before landing into the solid ground.

Once there, Gringor tightened his grip and raised the mercenary in his grasp before slamming the latter down into the ground again.

On and on, he would continue the process until either the man succumbs or pass out.

ATTN: @The Irish Tree (Eula) & @Rezod92 (Kerry)
As Carroll was princess carried by Eula, and Alice was caveman carried by Kerry, the Sword Devil would maintain a thoughtful silence. As Dinah, they had access to their memories of old - all of them - for weal and for woe.

It was harsh... remembering who you were in anger, in sadness, and grief...

Carroll remembered all her hosts, including her Paladin. However, she also remembered walking away from her family for revenge - walking away from Io to strike back at her mother for striking at her. Tit for Tat had cost her happiness, even if in destitution and isolation.

Alice remembered her life, her Human life as Cecilia, and her Mamono life as Hatter - the vengeful, yet cowardly Mad Hatter that sought only to burn everything stolen from her, yet couldn't leave her cave until power fell, quite literally, into her lap, and allowed her to create a braver self that could fight her battles.

But, for all the harhsness of reality, there was goodness interspersed.

As Kerry set Alice to rest, the Mad Hatter would awaken, and sit up. Sighing, she held up a finger to keep Kerry from speaking, as her form changed to the blonde that Kerry knew, before shifting away into someone else that felt warmly similar to her Alice.

"My name is Cecilia Lewis, and..." Alice extended her hand, to which Carroll took.

...my name is Carrollynn Wunderland, and this..." Carrol says, before forming into her True Form.

"...is the story of a would-be Queen and her Blade," Dinah says, before telling the story of Alice and Carroll from start to end..

"...and, that's how I got here," Dinah says, looking at Kerry and Eula, lying in bed like a sick patient in an anime, as she told her life story.

Dinah spoke of her last five centuries; from the time she landed on another island and began to her campaigns to amass power to the great wars that earned her to the title of Barbarian Queen of Summerheld - a title that she used to secure her two-hundred-and-forty-nine-year rule of the nation, until its capital was overturned by the united forces of those she left defeated, and all she had was lost to roaring flames that consumed her Castle and only daughter, Tekelili.

A great loss that brought her to her knees before Lady Kyouko, and set her upon Shizuyama to seek asylum, and renewed purpose to take her revenge, under the guise of aiding the plights of Terauchi Temple and the people of her island...

"...and, all that to fuck up at the finish line. Four-hundred-ninety-nine-years. I fell short with one year left on my exile..."

"Now, I can never go home..."

Dinah sighed, rolling into her side. She looked ready to crumble, burdened with memory of all that she'd lost, as she reverted to Alice and Carroll.

Looking away, Alice pulled the sheets up to her chin, and stared at the wall, as she transformed back into the pale redhead with her floppy hat, while Carroll sat opposite of her, and faced the floor with her hair over her face.

All the two could do was trust that Kerry and Eula wouldn't deem them selfish monsters for all they'd done and failed in the name of revenge...

@PaulHaynek @Enkryption @The Irish Tree (EUL)

Kerry closed her eyes and took a calming deep breath as Dinah's story sank in. The hornet was speechless by the end of it. Truly.

Because what do you say to that?

What do you say to a woman, formerly human, and a living weapon that have spent the past five centuries in pursuit of power and revenge? What kind of mindset did one have to take to hold a grudge for that long? What kind of damage, mentally and spiritually, does it do if revenge is your one and only goal in your long life? And naturally.... When you fail, over and over again.... When your losses start outweighing your gains.... When your friends and family become kindling to flames of vengeance.... When you lose everything....

What do you have left? And how do you go on in life?

.......

Enough..., Kerry somberly thought. This....has to stop.

Did she have questions? Yes. Was she upset with Alice over this? Definitely. But that can wait. Her lover needed her right now.

Kerry opened her hazel eyes, a determined resolve burning within them as she looked to Eula. No words were exchanged, yet the message between them was clear as day:

We're all they have left.

After that, Kerry walked over to Alice's side and kneel down to the mad hatter's level.

"You both fucked up. Royally and without a doubt.", the hornet spoke honestly. "Is this the part where I judge you? Where I condemn your foolish dive into self-destruction, take off this ring and vow to have Gwen never see you before I forever cut you out of my life? Well, sorry, but that's not happening. Because what would that solve, Ali? What. Would. That. Solve?"

Liliana

Eula

@Enkryption(CAR/ALI), @Rezod92
Eula was quiet throughout Dinah's explanation, silently compiling whatever information she possibly could. Their banishment, and memory loss...likely came from coming into contact with Wonderland's spell, enforcing the promise once more. But that did leave one major thought in her head:

...Why were they panicking so much?

Lilim, demons, and all contract based magic as far as she knew had to be incredibly specific in wording, there was no rule against returning early, just that they couldn't. Not that it would void the concept of the exile. As such, Eula would lean forward and delicately push an index finger against Carroll's forehead, before she then curled back her middle finger to flick her in the forehead. "...Both of you seem to be misunderstanding the exile. You just have to wait one year longer, correct? Win then, after a year. Train. Learn. Study the weakness of Lilim's. And this time, I will come as well. That should even the odds somewhat."
