OPEN FOR NOW

So, as established before, this RP will be an RP focusing on a newly established supe rhero group (think Justice League or Avengers). Each of our characters will be heroes that are well known within their city. The city, Melessa for now (most likely NYC or some large fictional super city) has an abnormally high crime rate, including super villains, and very few super heroes, so our heroes decided to team up to stop the crime in a more efficient fashion.

Basically, this is a character driven RP. While there will be action that our heroes will participate in, there will be at least one arc per character, dedicated to the specific character. Used to help establish the character, their background, possible arch nemesis, and other things, it will help develop and layer the character so that they aren't just cardboard cut outs that we happen to be typing lines for.

So, with that established, I'm just gonna copy and paste the rules from the Int Check here.

1. This isn't first come first serve. This is advanced, this means, in my opinion, that the roster of characters should be determined based on the quality of the characters submitted. So, once enough interest is sparked, I'll make an OOC where you guys can submit characters based on the CS format I provide.

2. Posting. For posting, we'll be going in "rounds." The way this works is whoever is controlling the arc (for personal arcs, the RP'er of the character who's having the personal arc will control the story) will make a post. Everyone else will then post a response to said post. Unless someone is delayed and can't post, or their response is not needed (say your character is unconscious or unavailable) then the round is concluded. The controller will post creating the next round, rinse and repeat.

3. Amounts of post. I would prefer people to be posting at least once everyday, but I know that isn't realistically possible so once every 2-3 days is what I'm asking. 4 days max.

4. Don't say you're interested and then after a few OOC posts never show up again. Think about this for a little. If you're really interested, then post here. If you are only slightly interested and then decide you aren't easily, or you aren't able to meet the requirements I've set, don't bother posting that you're interested here.

5. Don't be an ass. If you have problems with someone, either handle it through me or directly with one another, but don't bring your bullshit into the RP, unless your characters actually butt heads and you're just properly RP'ing the scenario out. AKA, don't bring personal drama into OOC realm.

6. Originality. I know that most super powers have been done, so I don't mind if we get characters similar to super heroes, but please don't just be like "This is ratman. He's a super detective that dresses up like a rat. His parents were killed and he swo-" "Isn't that just batman, I mean it's literally a rodent based detective that just doesn't have wings." "SHUT UP HE'S ORIGINAL, JUST LIKE MY ORIGINAL SONIC CHARACTER, BLONIC". If you do something like, just assumed you're not accepted lol.

So, now that we've established the rules, lets get to the meat of this character driven story, the characters. As I want to have a lot of development of the characters happening within the RP, this CS's might seem a little bare-bones, but just stay with me here.

Name: (Your characters real name.)

Alias: (Super hero name)

Age: (18+, although I'd prefer closer to mid twenties at the least, I will accept late teens seeing as they're technically adults)

Gender:

Personality: (What is your character like as a regular person?)

Persona: (The personality your character uses when they're doing super hero stuff. If it's the same as they're everyday personality, just leave this blank or remove it from the sheet all together)

Appearance: (Every day appearance, pics of any kind or descriptions are acceptable here)

Costume: (Same deal as appearance, just in super hero mode)

Powers/Skills and how they came about: (Just describe to us what your character can do, and how they came into their powers. Like if you use gadgets, how did you become so handy with them and how did you get the material/money to build them, etc.)

Rise to Fame: (Every super hero has a moment that basically reveals them to their city. How did your character go from being a weird person in a costume to being a respected and loved hero?)

Arch Nemesis: (explained below, but short explanation, if you want to have an arch baddie before the RP starts, list here. Short explanation of their abilities, anme, and maybe a short backstory)

Personal Arc: (Short synopsis of what you'd like your first personal story arc focus around)

So, that's the CS, and I'm also gonna be putting up my own character right now.

Name: Mia Knight

Alias: Knightmare

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Personality: Mia is definitely not someone you'd think of as dark or sinister. She is a very kind hearted and open person. She is not overly kind though, being able to be stern and strict when she has too as well. She's probably one of the best type of friend you can have, being that she will be there when you need help, and she can deliver any type of help you need, either when you need someone to comfort you, or someone to give you a slap to make you come back to your senses. She can be a little hard to approach for those that don't know her, but for those that do, they know she's a true friend.

Persona: As Nox, Mia does a complete 180. Other than to her teammates, she voices nothing. She wears no emotion, her dark shroud hiding her face. She only has one setting, and that's sinister. Even though she doesn't express emotions through her face or voice, she expresses terror very well. She uses this terror and fear inducing style to belittle and intimidate her opponents, leaving them full of openings, and then exploiting those openings to subdue them. If it weren't for the fact that she only stops evil-doers, she would probably be considered a super villain rather than a hero based on her style.

Appearance:

Costume: Her costume varies greatly due to her power. She can manipulate shadows and darkness, so generally she just wraps herself and clothing in darkness, so all that one would see is a pitch black human figure coming at them. The thing that generally remains that same though is that she almost has a knight like aura to her when in costume, with either a cape, shield, sword, or some other "knight" like apparatus to identify her by.

Powers/Skills and how they came about: Mia has the ability to manipulate shadows and darkness. The more darkness and shadows around, the more she can control. She can shape it into tangible objects like weapons or armor, and even sometimes fully functioning bodies to fight for her. Her powers came about as a result of her curiosity in the supernatural. After reading about magic, demons, mythical beasts, and other such things, she set out on finding a way to become a magic user. Long story short, she messed up a ritual from a book that resulted in her learning to control darkness/shadows and destroying the book. It worked for her though, so she decided to use it for something good.

Rise to Fame: Up until this point, Mia had only been shrouding herself and dealing with thugs and other such ordeals. Her fame came in the form of an attack from a villain that actually lived next door to her. It turned out her neighbor was involved in supplying information about important things like government operations and such to enemies of the government. Long story short, police attempted to arrest him and he with his mini-personal army began a fire fight in the building, and Mia decided to help the police. After subduing all the criminals, one of the cops thanked her and commented on her being like a knight with her dark helmet hiding her face, and that's how Knightmare was born.

Arch Nemesis: "Inforcer." After getting beaten by Knightmare, the Inforcer went from being a simple information broker to a monstrous gang leader. Basically, he's an enforcer that also deals with info, and info-enforcer or INFOrcer (terrible puns, all super hero concepts need some). Basically he's just a regular guy with an army and information network available at his whim.

Personal Arc: So, as explained earlier, Knightmare got her powers through a failed ritual that also destroyed the book she learned the ritual from. You think that destroying such an ancient artifact would hold no repercussions. Gonna be a lot of evil forces involved in this arc I can tell you that.

So yeah, I'm not really asking for anything amazing here. I kind of just whipped up the back story and everything up as an after thought to the hero herself lol. I'm mainly just going to be picking characters based on powers/abilities and personalities and such. Don't go to ballistic with everything lol.

Ah! This is excellent, I had hoped you'd be letting us keep a lot to ourselves given the whole 'character driven' thing. It just doesn't work out when someone says their Rp is going to be character driven and then you have to reveal everything about your character in a CS. I'll have mine up ASAP, hope I get in!

OH, before anyone posts a CS, I forgot

You need to include two things at the bottom of your CS. First, arch nemesis. Not to hard, just if you want to have an arch enemy before the RP starts, just give a brief explanation about them (might also be good to include them in your claim to fame, since defeating a super villain would probably bee a good rise to fame explanation.) This is not mandatory, but it might be cool to have an arch nemesis we can deal with that can also work as filler as we develop other plots. The second is potential "Personal Arc" concepts. Nothing huge here either, just a small explanation of what you want your personal arc to revolve around. Getting an arch enemy? Dealing with old personal problems that feeds into some evil plot? Other ideas? Just a short synopsis of the arc so we have an idea of what to expect.

Anyways, please include this stuff and thanks guys, editing my own CS and the CS template now.

Alright, a few things

1) Remove the multiple posts please. I understand that RPG is probably lagging out or something (I'm having trouble too) so whenever you can fix that, would be really cool.

2) Will she have some sort of translator device or translator person on standby? I mean she has to have some way of conversing properly with the team.

3) To understand this properly, she a human/gargoyle/gorgon/harpy thing?

Heh... xD
Nice character!
In regards to communication, I was actually considering having a character capable of speaking ancient Greek, amusingly enough. The reason behind it would be that he would be some sort of modern magic using scholar, researching the fundamental principles behind magical phenomenons, hence requiring him to do a lot of reading and communicating with spirits in dead or forgotten languages.

... I just posted three times didn't I? XD

Yes, I've been trying for the past hour or so to delete the multiples but the only way is to edit them and the same lag occuring when I initially posted them is stopping me from doing that, too. Seems to have just worked now but the thread has multiple posts all over now.

As for communication with the team, I had intended to make that difficult for everyone as a challenge that she and the team would have to overcome. I figure she'd feel lonely and isolated without being able to properly talk to anyone but she'd be cunning enough to get the general gist of what people where saying during mission time.I also thought that it'd be interesting in that she could be babbling on about really important stuff but nobody gets her and when she finally learns english or something, more of her nature would be revealed.

And yes, she's basically a gorgon/gargoyle, She has more aspects leaning towards gargoyle lore but I figured that could come out in the Rp.

Cryptiic, thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you like her. At least I assume you're talking to me. As for having a person who happens to speak ancient Greek, that'd be interesting. Her language is only based on ancient Greek, though and is actually a dialect used exclusively by her race but someone versed in ancient Greek could probably communicate with her to a fair degree. Even if her own language is different, she'd probably understand straight up ancient Greek over and above modern english at any rate.

Maybe that way we could work in the stuff I was babbling about above with her character gradually being unraveled as her communication skills improve. Perhaps she'd say things here or there that only your character would catch. I would like to start with either no or minimal communication though, I just thought the language barrier could be interesting character development wise.

EDIT: I came up with this idea after I posted her, but would it be alright if I added alchemy to her list of skills? I thought it'd be interesting if, in an attempt to find a cure for the stone curse her snakes inflict she got into making all sorts of concoctions which she would be able to drink and then deliver by having her snakes bite people. It could make her more varied.

EDIT AGAIN: Actually, what makes more sense is that, while her race might have their own language, she just speaks regular ancient Greek because she assumes that's what humans still speak.

Name: Samantha "Sammy" Paquin

Alias: Ghost

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Personality: Samantha is a happy go lucky individual, with an almost cartoonish optimistic streak. In large part this is due to naivety, she holds a foolish belief that at their core every single person is good. Of course her naivety doesn't stop there, she will believe just about anything, as long as she wants it to be true, whether it is a super-villain saying they will change their ways, or an ex-boyfriend telling her he still loves her. That said, Samantha's naivety has however been taken advantage of many times as you might expect. This has led to her being rather shy around most people she doesn't know, and often dismissing anything they say.

Persona: While she is shy as Sam, once in costume it is quite the opposite, she is still an optimist for the ages, and quite naive, but once she has the cape on, the shyness is gone. She will talk complete stranger's ears off about the most minute of details, offering her undivided attention to them as well. After all, who would lie to a superhero? As you might expect from someone who thinks everyone is inherently good, she also doesn't like to hurt her enemies, and would likely die before she took a life.

Appearance:
Standing at just 5'0" with the build of a fourteen year old figure skater, Samantha is probably one of the least intimidating figures you'll ever meet. Her hair generally stays slightly unkempt, keeping a fairly fluffy look. Additionally, from her early heroing days, Samantha has a scar running down her right arm nearly to her elbow, three roughly half-foot scars on her right side, and a gunshot wound on her left calf, she has many other small scars on various parts of her body. She keeps all of these covered up.

Costume:
Ghost went for a very traditional costume, a one piece suit that doesn't leave much to the imagination, even going so far as to have a Powergirl-esque cleavage hole, it briefly reconnects before giving an observer an unobstructed view of her abdomen as well. Not exactly designed for protection. Still, that is only one part of the costume, she has a small semi-cape hanging from her right shoulder, a set of custom built goggles that allow her to see in low-light, spiked arm pads, because they look cool, gloves because they look equally cool, and cover her scar, and of course high heeled thigh high boots. They're not exactly practical, but given her size she thought them a necessity, and it's not like fighting armed crooks and supervillains is practical either. Probably most important is her belt which has three small vials on it filled with ectoplasmic mist, which she uses as her main weapons.

Powers/Skills and how they came about: Samantha was a pretty normal teenager, or so she thought. She was a sophomore in high school when it happened. She was at a gymnastics competition, She was doing the uneven bars, her forte, unfortunately they weren't that day. her grip slipped, and she fell head first, almost immediately breaking her neck. Such an injury would kill most people, and she was no exception. However rather than heaven, hell, or just pure nothingness, she looked down and saw the gymnasium, and her own lifeless body. Without taking the time to question her state or even think she immediately propelled herself back into her body. As she came back to the world of the living she felt the horrifying agony of an injury she shouldn't be living through. One neck brace, six months, and many surprised doctors later however she was back up and about.

Since then, her abilities have increased immensely. She has discovered she has the ability to control ectoplasmic mists. this can be applied in a number of ways, the most obvious of which is possession. She is capable of possessing objects, and even living things, though the stronger their will, the less control she can exert, and with most humans she can merely slow them down or control a single body part. She is also able to levitate, as of yet, she can't justify calling it 'flight' but she is getting better at it. Probably the most significant ability of all for her is her ability to take leave her own body as ectoplasmic mist. When doing so she is capable of exerting a significantly greater level of control on those she possesses. However, when she does this ,she leaves her anchor to the material world, her body, defenseless. if it is destroyed, or she leaves it vacant for too long it will begin to die, and she will begin to fade. While she has also been practicing this ability so far the longest she has been able to achieve without suffering ill-effects was five minutes.

Samantha is also fairly fit, and the majority of her heroing is done with physically blows she delivers on impaired foes. Being a collegiate gymnast, and a damn good one, she has exceptional agility, almost superhuman reflexes, and strength that betrays her size.

Beyond her knowledge, she also has the ability to summon, and even control apparitions of her own design.

Rise to Fame: After discovering her abilities, Sam had a bit of a personal crisis, she wondered if she was really alive, was she even a person anymore? She spent months of introverted pondering lost many friends, and got put on many anti-depressants during this time. That was until she decided to confide in a friend after he pretty much wouldn't stop asking her what was wrong. When she revealed her powers to him he was enamored, and in a off handed joke mentioned that she could be a super heroine. What had likely been intended as nothing but a mere joke though stuck with her. She began thinking of what kind of costume she could wear and once she had one in mind began ordering the pieces from various internet retailers.

She was only seventeen when she had finally put her costume together. At the time it had a regular mask instead of goggles, similar boots, but a much less revealing one piece, and no gloves, cape or spikes. Her first few attempts were on small time crooks, purse snatchers, and muggers. While she was successful, she quickly learned that utilizing her own inherent ectoplasmic material whilst fighting was not an easy task. Every victory left her with more bruises, some worse. Still she was undeterred by this, her natural optimism had come back, and she set out to find something to aid her.

After meeting with many local 'mystics' and 'magicians' she did eventually find actual ectoplasm, that she could manipulate. Shortly after she designed a belt to hold her new assets. Armed with this she set out once more, meeting with significantly more success. Eventually though muggers, and small-time crooks seemed like a waste, Then though her opportunity came, a bank robbery in progress, The robbers had the place locked down tight, armed guards at every entrance, and bombs on all of their hostages. After a three hour standoff, and two hours of begging the police to let her try and resolve it, she eventually just decided to do it with or without their permission. Within a half hour she found herself on the building's roof, police snipers trained on her now as well.

As she approached the door she left her body, and worked her way through the door handle, on the other side was a guard in a presidential mask, carrying an M4. Samantha knew that if she could mess with the firing pin, he'd be essentially unarmed, unfortunately she did not know what that was, so instead just clicked on the safety. As she floated back out she unlocked the door. Back in her body, one deep breath later she quickly opened the door, and after hearing the satisfying click of a gun doing nothing quickly subdued her opponent, knocking him unconscious.

After moving into the vents she quickly repeated this process turning on the safety on all of the assailant's guns, and picking off the ones she could that weren't in the main room. Eventually there was only three left, after scouting the room from outside her body she formulated a plan. Quickly she dropped from the vents, immediately she grabbed the detonator from who she assumed was the leader, and incapacitated another with a chair that flew across the room the clicking of the guns bought her enough time to take out another. It took her less than a second to be in the face of the leader, and line up a kick directly on his temple. Sadly though he had managed to turn off the safety first, and managed to fire into her calf before her boot sent him to sleep.

Slumping in pain and though she denies it when she tells the story, screaming briefly as well, within moments the police stormed the building. But to their surprise they found her there on the ground, surrounded by hostages, and unconscious robbers, putting on the most labored smile ever seen. She of course made headlines with this, and even managed to have the public opinion in her favor so much that the police dropped the charges against her.

Arch-Nemesis: Lorenzo Francetti A Mob boss whom unluckily seems to always be on the losing end of Ghost's vigilantism. She doesn't actually know who he is since he works behind the scenes, but he despises her with a great passion. To the point he has made it a point of ending her.

Character Arc: Eventually she will have to learn that some people are bad. whether it be through being manipulated into doing the bidding of an evil force, or seeing atrocities that are just incomprehensible to her. It will mentally break her.

Alright, another interesting character. To my understanding, she's kind of like Danny Phantom, except she has to leave her body to use her ghost powers instead of just changing to a ghost form. I also like the personal arc concept as well.

Now, seeing as we finally have some characters, I figure we move on to the next aspect of this RP. Now, since it is a character driven story, we need to establish something pretty important in my opinion. Relationships. How will everyone act around and toward one another is probably one of the most important aspects of a character driven RP, if not the most important aspect.

Once we have a finalized roster, I want to start working on this, but as of now, I want you guys to start considering how you'll interact with one another.

PS, I made an edit to my character normal personality. I figured having someone that can't talk to us easily and having a normally shy girl means that mine should probably be a little more open XD.
