Rebekah Green and Mimic

Rebekah got up and followed Mimic towards the training room. A couple of butterflies danced in her stomach, but she did her best to calm them. She told herself that even though she would be fighting Mimic, he wasn't aiming to hurt her, only test her skills. She had her bag, and it was a comfortable and familiar weight on her shoulders.
I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.

She stepped through the door into the room and looked around. It was about 20 metres square, and half as high, lit by five hanging lamps. It was bare of any furniture or equipment, save for the dark blue padding on the floor. She wouldn't have a heap to use in her environment, then. So be it.

Mimic stood impassively, just inside the door, but Rebekah walked right the way to the other end of the room before turning to face him. Unlike Kyle's fight, which was almost exclusively at close quarters, her skills didn't lend themselves to that type of fight. Turning back to face him, she slipped her kite shield out of an outside pocket of her bag and grew it from the size of her hand up to about a metre tall. That was all the preparation she was able to do for now, not knowing exactly what was coming. Deep breath in, time to begin.

Rebekah faced mimic in a fighting stance and reached out to the material of his super suit. She figured that the material would be tough enough to survive a small change in scale while retaining its strength, so she shrunk the fabric around his neck, pulling it a lot tighter around his throat. Hoping that would give her a moment's opening, she focused on a spot just behind Mimic and appeared there an instant later, and swung her shield in a sold blow towards his wings.

Mimic didn't seemed phased by the fact his own suit was chocking him. Within seconds, the suit returned to its normal appearance, mimic breathing fine and as Rebekah disappeared, Mimic spun about, raising a hand and catching the shield.

"You will find that trying to use your powers on my person won't work too well. I'm not called mimic for nothing, child"

He leaped backwards, watching to see what Rebekah would do next. For now, Mimic maintained the same tactic he had used with Kyle, waiting and watching

"Hey, worth a shot" Rebekah shrugged as she regathered herself. "Might have bought me some time at least."

She was fine with him watching and waiting. That gave her another opportunity to do her thing. There had to be somethings he couldn't copy from her, things like plans, circumstances and equipment. She needed to find an advantage in those. She looked up to the cieling for a moment, but decided to keep up with her first line of attack. She'd exhaust this trick before moving on.

Rather than shrinking part of Mimic's suit, she expanded everything in a burst. His shoes became clownishly huge while his clothing got incredibly loose and baggy. She assumed that he would shrink it back down pretty quickly, but she didn't want to give him that time. Quickly teleporting in again, she grabbed for his left sleeve, which was now hanging down to the floor. She popped a couple of feet to the right and made to tie it up with the right one, both behind his back.

It was a long shot, but against Mimic, so was everything. All going well, he'd end up with both hands tied behind his back and encased in his own super-durable costume, no matter if he shrunk it back to normal or not. More likely she'd get summarily shoved away, but perhaps the rest of his clothing would impede his movements enough to give her that chance.

Mimic buffeted his wing rising into the air, soon returning his suit to normal. Mimic teleported away from Rebekah, as soon as he reappeared again he was moving. He darted to Rebekah, maintaining a control over his suit so Rebekah couldn't manipulate it again, he decided to change tactics.

He slid into the shadows, borrowing Kalinda's ability again, when he was close enough the Rebekah to throw a punch. He appeared directly behind her, and grabbed her arms, wantin to see if she could figure a way out

Truly, teleportation was a double-edged sword. It let each of them attack very swiftly, and cut down the time the opponent had to react, but it also let them escape just as quickly. Mimic's hands around hers were no obstacle, since anywhere she could see, she could be. She popped to the other side of the room and was free in an instant. She didn't wait to be caught again either, but kept jumping to different spots, leading Mimic around in a game of teleporting cat and mouse.

Mimic's brand of teleportation seemed to be slightly different to her own, both when he had been fighting Kyle and again now. He was melting into the shadows on the ground and popping out of them again. He used darkness while she used light. That was a difference she might be able to use.

Still jumping from place to place, Rebekah extended her power up to the lamps hanging from the ceiling, and started to slowly grow their shades. As the plastic hemispheres expanded, they blocked out the sideways exposure of the bulbs and directed more of their light straight down. While they had been lighting the whole room equally, the floor was now spotted with five pools of bright light with the rest falling into shadow.

With the new arrangement, she found it easier to stay ahead of Mimic. If she kept to the middle of the light patches, there would always be a metre of space between where she stood and where he would suddenly appear, trying to grab her again and cut off her vision of the next spot. That space gave her enough reaction time to stay ahead until she could spring her trap.

The middle lampshade had kept on growing after the others had stopped, and was now a heavy plastic dome two metres across and a metre high. She had needed to thicken the wire to keep it hanging, but now as she gave it a quick shrink, the wire snapped under the weight and the improvised cage fell from the ceiling just as Mimic appeared under it and Rebekah popped away.

She turned back to look at her handiwork from a pool of light in a corner of the room. Would it hold him? Was it heavy enough that he couldn't just lift it up? Could he teleport through opaque barriers? She couldn't herself, but she also didn't know about the type of teleportation Mimic was using. Was it limited as well?

Mimic was gone in a heart beat. Engulfed in shadows, he appeared behind Rebekah, just as the room descended into complete darkness, shadows expanding to the walls and engulfing the light. He grabbed Rebekah again, "clever" he said, "but you must always be adaptable"

The darkness was complete, they would both need to rely on other senses. At least for the time being. mimic was merely trying to see how Rebekah's abilities worked, while also testing her.

Damn. She had really hoped that would work.

The lights went out, and for a moment Rebekah thought she had been caught in her own trap under the lampshade. Throwing her hands out around her and even jumping up soon confirmed that no, she wasn't under anything, Mimic had just killed the lights. Her hand had reached half way around to her backpack before she paused to consider the teacher's words. Be adaptable.

Easy for him to say, but what was he trying to tell her there? Was it a clue of some kind, something he wanted to see from her? As far as she was concerned, she had been adapting ever since she walked through the training room door. She had realised years ago that the best application of her powers wasn't in a straight fight but in hacking preparedness to an absurd degree. She didn't need Batman's famed talent for bringing exactly what he would need for a situation when she could carry a house's worth of gear in a single backpack.

Did he really think she wouldn't have a light source on her? Her hand hovered over the pocket containing a flashlight, but she also had lamps, flares, and even a searchlight, all shrunk down and stored away. Pulling out some of that was the obvious thing to do, but was it adaptable? Was it unexpected? No, Mimic was asking her if she could do something else in this situation. If that was the test, she would have to rise to the challenge.

She couldn't see anything in the pitch darkness, or pick where Mimic was. With his moving through darkness, he could have been anywhere in the room. She couldn't hear any footsteps or other movement, so she figured he was just standing still waiting to see what she would do. Well, not see perhaps, since it was totally black, unless he was using one of his umptillion copied powers to see her in spite of it. Anyway, he certainly wasn't taking advantage of the darkness to attack her, so she thought she had a bit of time to prepare something. Something different. Something adaptable. Something about other senses.

So far, she had been trying without success to hit Mimic with physical attacks: choking, hitting, tying him up and and trapping him under a wall of plastic. She wasn't one of those supers who could challenge him by hurling lightning bolts and laser beams, so what did that leave? Mentally running down the inventory of what she had in her backpack, she settled on the row of vials she had brought from Dr. Arcturus's chemistry lab at Super School - various substances that could be useful in super endeavours. Normally she would be hesitant to go throwing these around in a fight, especially after Mimic had rebuked Kyle so strongly about avoiding anything lethal, but one of them might just fit the situation. It was a different tack. It might even have been called adapting. She would give it a go.

Crouching down, she slipped off her backpack as quietly as she could and reached inside to undo a zipper. She felt for an airtight cylinder with a small nozzle on top, and a spray bottle, which she grew up to its normal size. Not so with the other container. She didn't want any more of this substance than what was already in the tiny thimbleful she carried. In this situation, a single drop might be too much, especially if she didn't want to effect the other students waiting next door.

She fumbled in the dark for a second, but then the seal on the vial connected with the spray bottle, and she was able to transfer a little of the substance inside. She shrunk this down a little, just to be sure she didn't overdo things, and then reached further into the bag for her oxygen mask. Only once it was securely strapped over her face did she stand back up and take hold of the loaded spray bottle.

All was still dark and silent, with no indication of where Mimic was or what he might be doing, so Rebekah took her chances and unleashed a single pump of thioacetone - the world's smelliest substance.

Ever since Rebekah had heard the story of this compound back in high school, she had had a kind of morbid fascination with it. It was so bizarre to think of a chemical that could incapacitate people with nothing more than its odour. When people thought about dangerous chemicals, the images that came to mind where of explosives, corrosives or horrible toxins. Thioacetone was none of those. The idea of a chemical that attacked with the power of smelliness was almost laughable. So, when she had the chance, she jumped at the opportunity to get her hands on the stuff.

So far as Rebekah knew, nobody had really wanted to do anything with thioacetone since the 60s. Whatever new developments waited in the chemistry and applications of thioketone polymers just wasn't worth the hazards of something going awry while trying to make them. Before research in the area was abandoned, however, there had been a few infamous incidents. In 1967, when the lid popped off a bottle of residues in a research lab. Almost immediately, other scientists in a building 200 metres away complained of nausea and sickness from the intense smell of rotting meat. Back in the lab itself, the chemists responsible got forcibly volunteered to measure how quickly the smell spread. The stopwatches proved useless and the attempt was abandoned when one drop was detected from half a kilometre downwind almost immediately.

Then there was the German city of Freiburg, where in 1889, chemists at a soap factory were reportedly working on a larger molecule called tri-thioacetone, which is still used as a flavoring and a fragrance. But when they mistakenly broke it apart into thioacetone, workers started falling ill. Spontaneous outbreaks of vomiting were reported in the surrounding neighborhoods, and it led to the evacuation of the entire city.

Here today, Rebekah wasn't using nearly as much as had been involved in either of those incidents. She wanted to affect only one room, while the rest of the class only getting enough to wrinkle their noses at the heavy training room door. Inside the room, though, the stink would surely make anyone retch. It wasn't a clean way to fight, but it probably had the best chance of anything she had tried yet.

How amazing would it be, she thought, if this actually took him down? For the students in the other room, all they would see on the screen was a sudden blackness, a period of silence, and then her, walking back into the classroom with a victorious smile on her face. It might be a stunt to rival even the Boy Wonder. She allowed herself a smile at that fantasy, unlikely as it was. Mimic always seemed to find a way, but for now, the dream was enough to keep her going.

Mimic watched everything Rebekah did, hidden in the shadows he could see everything she did. He had enough understand if the show realm from experience with Klinda, and know that his mere mimicry was no were near the same as hers, having been born to it. But still, he could do enough to hide and see through them for now, and Mimic watched the girl create something.

No doubt if I step out I'll be assaulted by whatever it is. The girl needs to work faster though

"An opponent isn't just going to sit back and watch you Crete something out in the real world, Rebekah. You need to work faster" his voice would seem to come from everywhere, even as the rooms filtration system began to work and filtered out whatever Rebekah had sprayed. "Of course in the real world they aren't likely to have a filtration system. Chances are whatever you sprayed could have crippled me for a moment, perhaps enough for you to do something else. You should keep that in mind"

When a small ping could be heard, Mimic leaped out the shadows, as vines shot upwards, to encase Rebekah. Mimic wasn't aiming to hurt any of the students, but merely test them. "I think this battle has gone on long enough. Your a smart girl, you just need to be a little quicker"

Still, he waited to see if she would do something else.

Rebekah struggled to hear Mimi'c voice over the sudden roaring of the air-con system as it was suddenly cranked up to what felt like hurricane strength. If she'd been able to see, she might have been able to shut those down, but as it was, Mimic had the right of it. Nice try, but still not quite good enough. His comment about real opponents though, still stung a little. She'd known he wasn't really trying to hurt her, and he'd given her an opportunity, so she'd taken her chances and showed her resourcefulness. What was wrong with that?

She didn't have time to make a reply before she felt ropes leap up to entangle her. Her first response was to shrink them down enough to snap her bounds, but when she applied her power, she could feel nothing happening. Was he blocking her abilities? No, she realised as a leaf dragged over her elbow, these were vines - living things that she couldn't influence.

The next option was to drop her shield and go for her bag again, reaching around with both hands to grab a torch and her bush knife, which were both in outside pockets and within easy reach. In the couple of moments it took for her to grab them and then another for the torch to gutter out and be eclipsed by shadows, Mimic was proved right again. She wasn't quite fast enough, and the vines had enough of a head start to get her well tied up. Working blind, she couldn't fend them off effectively, and her struggles against them soon tailed off. Two more vines worked their way between her fingers and forced her to drop what she was holding, and they clattered to the ground. The roaring of the filters had calmed as well, having done their job, leaving the room silent save only for her heavy breathing.

"You win" she conceded. "I can't get out"

Mimic lowered the vines and dispelled the shadows, "you did well. Your problem is you are relying to much on a bag, when you could have everything at the tip of your fingers. You should develop a super suit thy can hide everything on your person. That's part of what we do in this class, help you design your suit." He said, "you think quick, and you stay calm. You're on the right track, you just had to work on being quicker"

Rebekah took off her gas mask, and received the compliments and criticism with a nod. She bent down to retrieve the items she had dropped, and when they were shrunk back down and stowed away safely, she turned to go back into the classroom. It was almost uncomfortably bright in there, after how dark it had been under Mimic's shadow power, but she found her desk ok and collapsed down into her chair. Someone else would be going in for their assessment next, and she squinted around wondering who it would be.

Nano

Location: Academy
Interacting With: Mimic @Caits

Nathan watched the second battle with just as much interest as the first, his eyes memorizing every move Mimic had made. Even after the lights went out, he still watched critically, his nanite optics allowing him to see with perfect clarity in the dark, or any enviroment for that matter. The girl was brilliant, as well as collected, and if it weren't for the contained environment, she would have succeeded quickly. Mimic didn't seem interested in playing fairly, instead he resorted to an advantaged state that allowed him to quickly deconstruct any attack that went his way, then play it off as if it were the student's incapability that caused him to win, and not the strategically created environment that drastically tipped the scales towards his side. It was quite ironic, while Mimic loved to mention how the "real world" would have destroyed student's for their mistakes, the primary reason for Rebekah's failure was due to how far from the real world the battle took place in.

Nathan had fought before in truly life or death situations, and from the battles he learned that he should always expect to be at a drastic disadvantage. But, he had learned quickly, and there was a reason he hadn't been killed long before. In a fight there was one thing that could be the deciding factor between victory and defeat, it isn't strength, speed, experiance or technique, the one thing that can truly lead a battle is how much you're willing to hurt the person you're up against. It's how willing you are to destroy an enemy that determines the victor, and nothing else.

As the second battle finished, he stood again, volunteering himself.

Amused by Kyles flustering be nervousnss Kalinda smiled. She found it cute, and she poked his arm. "you do realise you're being quite cute?" She said, quite deliberately, "The boy wonder, flustered." She laughed softly, "and over little old me"

That was the most perplexing part, to her.

"You're sweet" she said, "and you shouldn't be nervous." She added, glancing at the screen as the battle ended, before looking back to Kyle, curiously now. He didn't seem to particularly care that she could feel his every emotion, and some peopl worked about that.

She shifted, and poked his cheek next.

@hagroden
Mimic looked over to Nathan, and nodded, taking a moment to check his wrist, frowning slightly as it had turned to yellow. Still, no cause for panic yet. "Come on in, then" he said, figuring this would be an interesting battle in itself

Kyle had opened his eyes to watch the last of the battle, and he became slightly agitated. The second student had fought a lot of better than he had fought, and he felt slightly jealous. He thought that she had really cool powers, and that maybe if he had powers he would have won his fight, or had done better at the very least. Kyle shook off his feelings and sat up a bit straighter, not leaning on Kalinda as much. That was when he felt Kalinda poke him. He had missed what she had said to him, but he turned his head and looked at her in the eyes. She has soft eyes, in his opinion, and wonderful to stare in. Then Kyle realized what he was thinking, and he blushed furiously. Kyle needed to escape, and just watching fights was getting boring. Kyle took his hand and gave Kalindas hand a slight squeeze.

"I am getting anxious here,"Kyle said whispering to Kalinda."Can you use your shadow powers to get us out of here quickly, if not I can use my acrobatics to cartwheel me out."

Kyle chuckled

Emily Nakajima

Feeling like she would be even later, Naka waved to Phoebe and moved into the school looking for the dorms before finding the class. She remembered that she needed to find the cafeteria to find the dorms, by the time she found the dorms she felt that she was beyond normal late and was probably gonna get to the class when it was finished and everyone was gone. Nakajima found a nice looking room and simply tossed her backpack onto one of the beds, she headed back out into the hall trying to remember where the class was taking place again, she held her head trying to think of where Phoebe told her where the class was.

" Ah, the gym..Right ?" She asked herself, she began running through the hallways looking for the Gym as fast as she could run. The second she saw a sign pointing her in the right direction her feeling of being late and getting even more lost faded away. As Nakajima opened the doors to the gym she noticed she came in at the end of a fight of some sorts, she looked around the room and instantly noticed her new friend Zora, or Tsura. It had to be one of the two, The ninja snuck up on her friend and hugged her from behind." Hi ! Again friend." She told her as she let her go, then her eyes spotted Jin and instantly went over to hug her sister.

" Jin you wouldn't believe what happened." She started." First I smelled something tasty and followed it's smell, then when I noticed that I was getting even more lost I panicked and felt scared, then I calmed down and remembered my map I had and the directions I drew on them and found my way over to the school. When I got here I saw this cool girl that killed the grass outside with her powers and..." She stopped herself ." What are we gonna do in this class ? " She asked.

@RumikoOhara @Mistress Dizzy

Jin Ifriti

Jin gave her sister a quick hug in return, happy to see her. She was beginning to get worried. With an amused grin, she listened to Naka talk at top speed, used to her stream of consciousness chatting. Strangely, she'd never had any issue understanding it. Probably because Jin could talk just as quick she was excited about things. Softly, she commented back. "She killed the grass? I wonder what that could be. Maybe some kind of poison ability? And this class, apparently we'll be learning how to better manage our powers and form our separate identities from civilian. Just what I need." Maybe this Mimic could help her dial down her strength. She would have volunteered to fight, but by the time she worked up the nerve, she'd missed the chance. Perhaps next time.

--

Kijani Ryane

Kijani watched the new students fight with interest. Definitely some interesting people this year, that was for certain. Mimic hadn't changed a bit, either. No mercy- though he did seem to be a little bit less of an asshole. Considering how much of a jerk he managed to be, that was impressive. Distracted from the next battle, Kijani subtly scanned the crowd of students, looking for Connor's dark hair. She still felt more than a little unsettled, and wasn't even sure why. Half the people in this room didn't even know her, so why was she being such a coward?

--

Kassy Keigwan

At the very back of the class, a young woman in strange clothing watched the fights with obvious curiousity. She was dark skinned and definitely pudgy, and while she looked human, those who looked closer would see that she wasn't quite. Her hair was stark white, and her eyes were orange, the pupils so round and large that she'd looked drugged if she was human. Taking a sip from a very large jug at her side, Kassandra watched each battle with increasing excitement. That teacher was amazing! Imagine having that level of magic at your beck and call. At one point, she was almost sure she felt the signature of her own magic, though it was gone too quickly for her to really make sure. Did the teacher have all those powers, or was he simply borrowing others? She'd never know.

When she'd arrived at the Academy this morning, after a terrifying car ride and an impromptu lesson in some very vulgar words to say to other drivers, she'd felt lost. The school was as big as a palace to her, and she felt so shy that she couldn't even approach anyone. She wound up wandering for a while, eventually making her way, half invisible and silent, to the class. So many of them seemed to be friends already - in her mind, there was no room for her. Years of isolation weren't going to be easy to toss away, even if she was technically noble now.

Kalinda was just reaching the point where she would have just thought to hell with it, and ease Kyles emotions, but she didn't. Instead she nodded, and taking Kyle's hand tightly, she slipped into the shadows. It was always a little sluggish when she took someone else into the shadows with her. "Don't let go, okay? The shadows can be dangerous for those that don't belong, but as long as you are with me, you'll be okay" she said. She didn't go far, just out to the courtyard near the cafeteria, slipping out the shadows easily.

Phoebe made the way to class, dragging Ryan with her, and leading whoever with them. Slipping in just at the end of the second battle, Phoebe found seats, watching as the girl came out the training room. So many new students. She doubted there was more then a few of them from last year here, anymore. She looked around for Katherine, wanting to catch up with her friend.

Connor watched the battles with curiosity, every so often his gaze returned to the hand-held device he had laying on the desk,'reading the data flowing across the small screen. In was on one such occasion that he saw Kijani. She was looking through the students. He couldn't help the smile that crossed his face. He rose, grabbing his pack and hand held, walking over to her

Kyle Grayson

Kyle gripped Kalindas hand slightly tight, and braced himself for the experience of shadow travel. Kyle had never felt anything like it before. Kyle could tell though what Kalinda meant when she said it was dangerous for those who do not belong. It was as if the shadows were trying to pull him from Kalinda, to wrap him in the tendrils of darkness and hold him forever. But Kyle held on to Kalinda, and safely appeared in the courtyard. Kyle loooked around, amazed at what he just experienced.

Kyle realized he was still holding Kalindas hand, and grew embarresed but did not let go. Kyle looked Kalinda in the eyes and smiled.

"Well.....that was.....intriguing. That was really cool though. Do you want to get something to eat, I didnt eat breakfast and a master of the limber arts must be full of a rich bounty of nutrients."

Kyle gave a small head nod.

Rebekah Green

Having done with her own fight, Rebekah found it much easier to relax and reflect on the experience. Sitting back in the bright, warm classroom filled with the chatter of other students, it was easier to look past the fact of her defeat and see the positives. She had done well, and even Mimic had said so. She could be proud of how she'd performed. His suggestion for her suit seemed like a good one, though she wondered if she could ever abandon a bag completely. His advice to work on her speed was good too. She could do that - it was a concrete, tangible goal for her to work at.

Yes, she could see the benefits of Mimics methods now that she was out the other side. When she had been in it, it had been difficult, frustrating and a bit frightening, but if that was what it took to make her a better hero, then so be it. She was determined to be more than just the screw-up who got expelled from Super School for nearly levelling the place.

Another benefit of having volunteered early was being able to devote her thoughts to looking around her at the other students in the room. They seemed a pretty diverse bunch, and for the most part she couldn't do much to guess at their abilities just by looking at them. Perhaps the girl with the large jug and a flower in her hair could do something with water, and a girl next to her seemed to glow with a faint luminescence, but other than that, she couldn't speculate too much.

A few more students entered, and another got up to hug one of the new arrivals. A lot of the second years seemed to share an easy companionship, talking and laughing with each other amiably. Seeing them made Rebekah miss her old friends, and teammates especially. Starting over this year meant leaving them behind, and they left a definite gap in her life.

This seemed like a good time to go about fixing that, and start talking to a few people. She had seen enough of the Academy already to know that it was a seriously amazing place, but even with all of its charms, a year of her life spent here without a few good friends by her side would seriously suck. She had already made one sort of acquaintance, companion, or something in Toto, even if he didn't want to be called her friend, so that was a start, but it would be good to have some more human people to talk to as well. Talking to people was the first step in making friends, so here goes nothing, right?

Rebekah leaned over to the glowing girl at the next desk. She had very light hair and wore a bright white dress that made her seem all the more shiny.
"Hi there" she said softly. "I'm Rebekah. And you are..?"

Tsura Eisenhardt

Picture

She watched the fights with mild interest and personal trepidation because as much as she was sure that the teacher could handle themselves she could only hope that the room was equally as able to withstand her power release.

Then Tsura heard Rebekah introduce herself and turned with a smile
"Hello Rebekah my name is Tsura Eisenhardt.

Oh, congratulations on successfully surviving training. I could see by your power release that this wasn't your first performance"

Arachne sat in the office fidgeting. She didn’t mean to skip the first class of the first day; the Beast got hungry, Arachne thought she could feed him with some burgers from BK. Unfortunately, three Whoppers weren’t enough and well… She had to ransack the kingdom. No one got seriously hurt, though that restaurant won’t have burgers for a while Arachne had hoped to escape that incident without notice, but alas some teachers just so happened to have stopped by, and now Arachne was here.

After a stern talking to, Arachne was allowed to leave the office but with a warning slip. “Jeez, what am I, thirteen?” Arache pocketed the slip and headed to her next class. While she knew where it was at, she had no idea what this actual class was. She was sure she’d know if had her schedule, but she left most of her things back at Burger King before she turned into the Black Beast. The only things she had on her was her wallet, keys, phone, the warning slip. She had a plastic she used to summon forth the Black Beast, but she lost that after her binge. Arachne would have to make due somehow. Taking out the warning slip, she did note that it was roughly as big as her head, and white. If she could get her hands on a pair of scissors and a marker she could make a paper mask. Not the most durable mask, but as long as Arachne was careful it wouldn’t matter how thin her mask was.

Arachne arrived to class fairly early. The door wasn’t even open yet. Everyone must still be at first class or just now leaving. It wouldn’t really matter to Arachne, she felt it was a bit too late for her to just waltz right into first period. Taking a seat Arachne took out her phone and updated a few stories she was in.

"It is an interesting experience, the first time." Kalinda said, "My mother says that being of the shadows doesn't make you safe, but that you need to understand them. I don't really know what that means, but I've never had trouble in the shadow world." Kalinda had eaten breakfast, but she wasn't adverse to having something else.

"Sure. I could eat" She said, cheerfully.

She led Kyle into the cafeteria, which always seemed to have food of some sort avaliable. "I Think the school thinks if they keep us well fed, there won't be any problems" She said with amusement, looking to Kyle.

"Your Second Year?

It seems I need to learn more about the school and it's methods of education because I had no idea that they mixed levels of experience.

I suppose it is in hopes that those more experienced students will be mentors to those less experienced."
she says looking at Rebekah with a smile that like the rest of her is a little brighter than the classroom lighting would suggest.

"Yeah, pretty much" Rebekah told Tsura, who appeared to be a firstie. "Or that's what I'm assuming anyway. Like I said, I'm new here too, so we'll both be finding out a lot today. That, plus some students aren't ready in just one year. They're still a bit foolish and need to learn their lesson before they go out into the world."

Why had she brought that up? Best to bury the uncomfortable memory and move on. "So you've already seen me in action, what can you do? I'm guessing something to do with light?" It was a bit hurried, but it did a reasonable job of covering her slip.

Kyle Grayson

Kyle walked into the cafeteria with Kalinda, and picked up a bunch of breakfast bars. Kyle led Kalinda to a table and they sat down, next to each other. Kyle set his pile of food bars on the table, and began devouring them. That was when he noticed Kalinda ust watching him, and kyle began to blush. Kyle gulped down his bite and offered Kalinda a breakfast chocolate bar. Kyle smiled and in his smile his teeth were covered in chocolate and peanut butter.

Tsura pauses a moment after Rebekah asks about her abilities because she's been conditioned by her mom to conceal them or cause her parents worry.

"I am a Photonic Elemental and while I haven't experienced the complete scope of my abilities my dad says I am in his class as a primary.

I am connected to one of the elements that make up the holy grail of the quantum powers of the Unified Field."
she says as the light around her dims a little.

"I control light and can become a creature made up of pure energy.

My control at the moment is limited because of my concerns for the safety of those around me because basically I could become one of the most powerful sources of power in our solar system; a living laser that burns as hot as our star."

Well, if that wasn't a rehearsed answer then Rebekah had never heard one. Nevertheless, it took her a moment to wade through the technical language to arrive at the salient point. Primary class like her dad, electromagnetic radiation, ridiculously powerful, complicated sounding quantum stuff... Combine that with what she knew of super history and a few rumours she'd heard going round, and...

"Holy crap, your dad's Magneto!"

Kalinda

Kalinda watched as Kyle mowed through the bars, smiling slightly and a little perplexed how some people, guys mainly, could pack away so much food. Why is he always so flustered she wondered, as he blushed and handed her a bar. She accepted it, giving him a smile. for that matter, why does he seemed to like being with me?. There weren't very many people in her life that seemed to enjoy her company, and it baffled her that Kyle seemed to enjoy her company, especially after such a short time.

I think mum mentioned his father, a few times or so. She thought, pondering that for a little bit. Opening the bar, she took a bite, blushing slightly herself, but she covered her face with her hair. Was she feeling her own emotions, or was it Kyle's? Right then, she couldn't tell.

Was...was she nervous? Why did she have to be nervous? There was a tightness in her chest, and she was sure her breathing was becoming a little bit faster, swallower. you're going to give yourself a panic attack. You're going to create a storm of nervousness, at this rate. She tried to draw in a slow, deep breath. As she did so, she tried to close herself off from the emotions, that weren't hers. Right then, she needed to know what she herself was feeling. Drawing in her breaths slowly, she let it out, she expelled the overwhelming sense of emotions out, nullifying them. It was seconds, really but to Kalinda it felt like a life time.

what is this? She thought, starring at the breakfast bar. this...this feeling? She swallowed, mind flashing briefly back to that one, dreadful incident. Is this... She bit her lip, jittery, looking to Kyle again, a quick flicker. She was no stranger to things like attraction, to that first slow fall into love, followed by the fast crash of diving headlong into it. But she had never, truly, felt the likes for herself.

She took another bit of the bar, "How can you eat so much?" She asked, as if she hadn't just spent some moments silent, or hadn't nearly been overwhelmed, "it doesn't see possible to eat so much!"

Kyle Grayson

"Because secretly we are living in an anime and I am the main protagonist. Which that my appetite is huge and can never be quenched,"Kyle said with a shrug.

Kyle picked up another breakfast bar, unwrapped it. All his life, he was trained to be an acrobatic. He had a diet, he had a training regiment, and his father always had ways to make sure he followed his rules when it came to things like this. Even when he went to public school, his father and mother had enforced their strict rules on him. But here, at this school, his parents had been forced to relax. Since Grandfather Bruce was here, his parents were able to not be as strict. So eating this, something as simple as a breakfast bar, was heaven for Kyle.

"Thanks for coming with me by the way. I appreciate it it."

Kyle smiled.

"Oh yea you mentioned your mother. Who is your mother?"

Kyle reached over and tucked a lock of hair that hung loosely in front of Kalindas face, and tucked it behind her ear, without thinking too much into it. He had been very nervous her not even minutes before, but he had become entranced by the sensation of eating, not uncommon with males.

Zack choose to watch the fights. Griffin stood by his side just in case things got out of control but Mimic seemed to be keeping things light. He was more ma king fun of the new arrivals that they weren't as special as they thought they were. Many children of superheros thought they were just as good if not better then their parents even without training. Which was often not the case.

He wondered what Griffin's fight with Mimic had been like. He hadn't been there so he didnt and his brother refused to say much. Somethings Griffin's overprotective nature drove him crazy but he knew that his brother meant well. Hopefully they would be able to work out a more balanced relationship as he proved to Griffin that he wasn't as fragile as he used to be.
