"You should be colorful more often then, it suits you." Raven said with a wink and a smile. He paused at the announcement that they had arrived at their destination. "Right you are, guess we'd best get going." He paused upon hearing Shanae's question and drew back in mock horror upon being told he hadn't even given her his name. "To think I had forgotten such a common courtesy! Raven Heartwood at your service! As for my plans, well what's the point of joining to a new town if you don't explore a little? I plan on having a nice long look around, maybe find a cool Pokemon or two. As for yourself?" Raven asked as he gestured for him to pass him on the way out.
“Aw thanks. And nice to meet you, Raven,” Shanae added with a grin. The boy was vivacious and rather funny. This trip would be fun. “I’m actually here to meet up with some people I haven’t talked to in a long time,” Shanae said, keeping it on the vaguer side. The less things people knew about her at first, the less they’d be able to assume — and Shanae liked it that way.
Stepping off the train, Shanae took a breath of the air. Stale as ever, she thought, a grin on her face as she walked into the streets. “So, Raven,” Shanae said, turning around to face the boy, “what are you planning to do at this late hour? Sitting around all day has left me still rather energetic, so I wouldn’t mind accompanying you on some outdoors excursion,” Shanae said, looking at the moon in the sky.
Cici watched the Shiinotic's light fade to nothing. She shuddered, before reminding herself that this was the Pokemon that had just tried to kill two children.
A horrified, grief-stricken cry sounded through the forest. The Sylveon struggled in Tommy's arms, trying and failing to shake off the paralysis, wailing at the sight of her closest friend's unmoving body. Even though Cici knew what would have happened if she and Tommy hadn't acted fast, she couldn't help wincing from a twinge of sympathy.
At the sound, Ligeia and Cadence reappeared. They stared around them, then faced each other, Cadence's chirps carrying an undertone of anger as she glanced from the Sylveon to the corpse of the Shiinotic. "Kri-Kricketot-Kricket!" she said, starting to tremble, while Ligeia attempted to comfort her.
"Hey... It really is all over now," Cici reassured her. Rationally, she knew this wasn't her fault, but that didn't stop her feeling awful about what her Pokemon had just experienced. She took a step, ending up on her hands and knees again. The little girl rushed to help, nearly falling over herself. "I'll be alright," Cici said, grasping onto a tree, picking up a fallen branch to use as a walking stick. "We all will."
Ligeia rested one of her tiny little arms against Cadence's back, taking a glance at the Sylveon. She knew about her from the other fairies, knew how badly a Pokemon who evolved through affection could snap after being abandoned by a trainer. She recalled hearing about the Shiinotic having found her close to death from her lack of will to even eat. As a fairy herself, Ligeia knew that many inhabitants of the forest liked to make deals - and how vengeful some fey could be. The terms had been simple: the Shiinotic would help the Sylveon get revenge against her trainer, as long as she assisted her in the future. According to some Pokemon, the Sylveon had once been reluctant to bring her victims, but her need for the Shiinotic's friendship and her grudge against humans had won out.
Ligeia's sympathy, though, was ultimately for Cadence, rather than anyone who had helped the Shiinotic for any reason. She knew exactly what Cadence had said to the Sylveon - "That's what it's like to lose loved ones."
Cadence shivered as her worst memory replayed through her head. Her mother, telling her to get away. Injured and exhausted, that was all the little bug had been able to do, leave the still forms of her brother and sister behind her as the Kricketune had succumbed to the spores and draining attacks. If she hadn't met and befriended the Igglybuff, she didn't know how she'd have coped. And just now, she'd nearly lost her trainer to that same Shiinotic.
But she was unable to tell Cici any of this.
"You two should rest now," Cici said, her voice weak. "It's, uh, certainly been an eventful night." Watching them hop back into their Pokeballs, she wondered if she'd made right suggestion - could Ligeia use Heal Bell? It wouldn't have been a good idea, the trainer decided. Healing Tommy would also have meant healing an incredibly distressed, angry Sylveon, and she'd seen the kind of damage it could do.
She staggered alongside Tommy, the two children following. It was probably best just to get back to town as quickly as possible.
Tommy held the Sylveon harder when it attempted to struggle, doing his best to ignore it's cry. Obviously there was something about the Shiinotic that Tommy had missed with the Sylveon, but the truth of the matter is that he'd always do what he had to to protect his friends, and other people and Pokemon, from dangerous ones like that Shiinotic had been. But the Sylveon had a chance to be redeemed and all Tommy needed was a little more experience as a trainer.
It was about an hour walk to town, but when they exited the trees and one of the townsfolk who was still up and about saw the small group, they gasped in surprise and ran up to them. "Y-you did it! You stopped them! But...why is that Shiinotic dead? And...why is it so big?" They hadn't yet noticed the teenage boy and young girl and Tommy offered the explanation.
"The Shiinotic was the real one pulling the strings with that little band that's been snatching up people over the years. With as many lives as it had claimed, human and Pokemon alike..." The town's person held up a hand and nodded, understanding, turning to address the children, likely to chastise them, she recognized them and tears lit her eyes.
"Benji? Millie? Is that really you?" Both children smiled with tears in their eyes and nodded. The woman rushed forwards to embrace them in a hug and Tommy smiled before gently pushing Cici towards the Pokecenter a short distance away.
"I want you to go rest up, but in the morning, you and I are talking about this other friend who abandoned you in the past. I'll handle getting these two to the authorities and then get my condition taken care of. You. Rest." Once he was sure she was going to get her Pokemon taken care of and rest up herself, he headed for the police station, where he entered and explained the situation. "So yeah, that's about the whole story. I would like to come back and try to reform this Sylveon after I have some more experience as a trainer if I may though." The officer at the front watched some of his colleagues come and retrieve both the body of the Shiinotic and the paralyzed Sylveon.
"Well, normally we would say that that was a risk we couldn't allow you to take, but I recognize the Sylveon from when I was younger, watched her trainer abandon her in the forest. Had I known she'd been the source of all this...well, anyways, I'll do what I can to get her kept in the pens, keep her separate from the other Pokemon. You go get that poisoning taken care of and rest. You look like you haven't slept in almost two days." Tommy smiled and nodded, kneeling down and patting Epsilon's head before returning him and heading out.
A short trip to the clinic later and he was free of the Poison and on his way to the Pokecenter to get Epsilon healed up and then finally get some sleep himself. He had a feeling he'd be waking up later than he wanted, but at least Cici and Feyhallow were safe now.
Cici smiled at the children's reunion with their mother, then turned to face Tommy. "Yeah, this'll be my first proper rest in two days... Wait, what?" How did he know she'd been abandoned by a friend? What had she said to him while under the enchantment? Tommy, though, had things he needed to do, so Cici had no choice but to wait to find out.
She stumbled to the Pokecentre, where she hurriedly set her four Pokeballs on the desk and explained to the nurse what had happened. She knew she should rest, but instead, sank into one of the chairs and waited. She wouldn't rest up until she knew her Pokemon and her travelling companion were alright.
Groaning with fatigue, she leaned back, unable to forget that Sylveon's cries. How had there been a Sylveon in the wild, anyway? Didn't Eevees usually evolve that way out of attachment to a trainer? Could that happen with an Eevee who was particularly loyal to other Pokemon? Cici was too tired to think about it much. The Pokemon behind the kidnappings were no longer causing trouble, and that was the important thing.
The nurse, instead of calling the exhausted trainer over, approached her and handed over the Pokeballs. "Whew... They're ok? Thanks. To think I let them go through that..." As she reattached the Pokeballs to her belt, the door opened. She glanced over to see Tommy, who looked much healthier.
"You alright? I'll try not to make a habit of dragging you into trouble," she said with a weak laugh. "Thanks for helping, though."
She paused, her face becoming more serious. "Back there, when that curse acted up in front of you... did I say something?"

"Thank you, though it was mostly Archie who caught him. Congratulations on the Bulbasaur." Tora answered with a smile, Rachni hissing at Cillian threatingly when he drew closer. Stingers twitching as if ready for another fight, despite how much its body hurt. Venipede were quite notorious in fighting until they drop. But before the bug could do anything, the tall woman started returning her Pokemon except for Archie. Standing up, she gave a nod in agreement.
"You're right. It's pretty late now." Tora said, blue orbs watching the younger boy start off toward to the Pokemon Center, though she did pause as she looked out to the forest. It was quiet. But she could ever so hear the slight hint of what sounded like childish laughter. Perhaps it was her imagination, or perhaps it was a Pokemon. They say that several travelers disappear in the night of this forest. Never to return and to be lost for eternity. What does happen to a trainer if they were to fall prey and disappear in this forest? Would it be so bad... to disappear into a beautiful place like this?
Archie barked then, snapping Tora out of her thoughts. Smiling at the Growlithe, she patted the puppy Pokemon's fluffy head before following after Cillian. She really should be leaving soon, it made her nervous to be staying in one place too long. What was she going to do if she was found? It wouldn't take long for Father's henchmen too show up. It's fine. Just stay calm. Everything will be alright, not too much time has passed.
"I'm going to buy a couple items, and then I'll be there. Go ahead and get some sleep, Mr. Weiss." Tora said with a smile before heading to the Poke Mart. Wanting to be prepared to leave as soon as possible.
After a few whimpers begging Tora for more candies from Archie, Tora bought two Pokeballs and three Rare Candies. The Fire Type immediately gobbled them up. "Archie, I don't quite understand why you want to get so strong quickly. You also shouldn't be eating so many Rare Candy's." the tall woman noted, though her Growlithe just gave a huff and a stubborn snort in return. The wealthy runaway gave a soft sigh, wishing she was able to communicate with Pokemon. That would be quite amazing to understand what they were saying. But she was sure Archie had her reasons. Perhaps a bit rash, but reasons. Walking outside while reading Venipede's Pokedex entry, she spotted Juana by the Mission board and walked over.
"Lady Juana? What are you doing awake? You should be in bed." Tora questioned in a curious, but perhaps a little scolding manner.

Tommy was semi-caught off guard when Cici was still waiting in the main lobby of the Poke Center, though he doubted it was directly related to him, and it took him a second to answer the question, which he did while having Epsilon taken care of. Then he took a deep breath before starting. "First you accused me of coming to take you away, then said 'You came for me this time. But would you keep helping me in a year's time? Five years? If anything happened to me then, would you even know? Or care? Humans are fickle beings. I've been let down once. I won't let it happen again.' It didn't click right away given the state I was in, and lord knows I'm still tired as hell, but eventually I realized that you must have had a good friend leave you for some reason." The nurse brought back Epsilon's pokeball and Tommy took it with a thanks before facing Cici.
"I don't need to know the specifics of what happened, or even who it was. But I do want YOU to know is that you are my friend. We may not always be able to travel together, and that we may take a different path in life as we grow as trainers and people, I will ALWAYS be willing to help you however I'm able to and I promise you that, alright?"
Cici cringed. She didn't remember saying any of it, but it sounded just like the thoughts that had been creeping into her head all day before the enchantment had taken over. "Wow, that spell really did make me talk complete Tauros crap," she said, still trying to cover it up. She didn't want to burden Tommy with her problems, or make him think he had some kind of duty to stay by her side.
"But thanks," she continued with a smile. "I can promise you too, I'll do the same. I'll help however I can."
She eased herself up. "Well, it's about time we got some rest. See you tomorrow morning. Or afternoon." With that, she stumbled back to her room, slumping onto the bed still in her filthy clothes and drifting into a much-needed sleep.
"Heyyy, Tora," Juana said, turning away from the weeping girl. "You, uh, remember Butch, right? That one Granbull? Well, as it turns out, just literally the day after we get here, the fella goes missing. And la pobrecita here's pining for her dog."
Bounsweet gave a concerned glance over to Penny.
"Now, I'm not quite sure how dangerous it is for big bulldogs in the forest. I doubt Butch would get eaten by, like, a Comfey or something. But I'm not sure if I can sleep tonight with an unresolved conflict like this."
Juana shrugged. "I really should, though. All these stories about cute cuddly fairies hypnotizing and draining strength and all sort of unpleasant things... I'll need to be alert."
Granted, Juana liked to joke about getting mauled by a Togepi or a Comfey, but she learned that the locals took this whole fairy business seriously. So she didn't want to search for the lost dog unprepared.
Juana turned back to Penny. "Look, I'll help you find Butch, 'kay? I'm gonna have to go in the morning, though; it's apparently really--"
Penny broke into tears.
"Ay, caramba. Uhh..." Juana stammered, shaking her hands. "I'll wake up first thing in the morning and go find Butch???"
Juana gave a nervous glance to Tora.
"Help me out here," she pleaded.

Murky black water crashed at the shore, hissing with foam. Wind and rain stinging her face as she stood on the empty beach, Ella watched in horror as two figures surfaced, calling for help before the waves swallowed them up.
"Vee-Vee! Leisy!" She rushed forward, wading into the freezing sea. "I'll get you out!" The trainer swam with all her strength, but there was no sign of either of her friends.
She shrieked, her mouth filling with salt water, as the cold intensified. Her limbs became numb and heavy, refusing to move. Slowly, all around her, the water turned into a shadowy substance that dragged her further and further down.
All she could see through the blackness was a glaring blue light. An eye.
"You said you'd get us out!" came Vivian's distant voice. "I trusted you! I guess you really can't do anything right!"
Ella struggled, trying to call for her friends again, but no sound came out.
...
With a yelp, the trainer awoke. Her breath came in gasps as she sat up, taking in her dimly-lit surroundings.
Another nightmare. It had just been another nightmare, like she'd had every night since starting her journey - but this one had been the most vivid of all.
She settled back down against the lumpy straw mattress, every nerve on edge. Hours passed, and sleep still eluded her.
"Well its never to late to talk to people again." Raven said to her plans as they took their first steps into the city. "As for my plans, I'll pick a direction, start walking, and see what there is to see. Can't get lost if I don't know where I'm going right?" Raven said with a laugh. "You plan to join my on my walkabout or you need to get to those friends of yours?" Raven asked, lightly dancing a few steps forward before pausing and tilting his head as he awaited her answer. He couldn't wait to explore the moonlight city, he'd never been to such a large place before and was curious to see what it was like. From what he'd heard of the place just changing what block you were on could result in a totally different atmosphere. It should be loads of fun!
Tora gaze softened as Juana explained the situation and her blue orbs turned toward the sobbing little girl. "Butch is missing?" she murmured, concern lacing her voice. Butch was a Granbull though, a fellow Fairy Type among the Fairy Pokemon in the forest. Still, it was dangerous and concerning for the big bulldog was out alone. Tora was exhausted however, she had pushed her body to its limits and was going to push harder since she had little time to travel to different areas in order to lose track of possible hounds sent from her family.
Despite that, the tall woman gave a deep breath. "I'll go take a look around... Lady Juana, you should go rest. Archie and I will go see if we can track him down." she said, taking another deep determined breath before looking to Archie who was already sniffing at Penny before sniffing at the ground in order to try and track a scent. Hopefully it was close enough to dawn to not be too much trouble. But she also didn't want Butch to end up... permanently disappearing.
"Whoa, hold up," Juana said. "I'm going to have to come too. I don't think anyone should have wander into the forest by themselves."
Bounsweet gave a firm nod of assent.
"On one hand, how hard could it be to find a dog, but on the other..."
Penny's mother spoke. "On the other hand, there are Fairy-type Pokémon that exhibit strange and mysterious powers over other Pokémon, or even on people. You must certainly not go alone. It's too dangerous..."
Juana put her hands on her hips. “I’m sure if we stick together no pixie’s gonna eat our souls or something.”
She yawned. “…I am kind of tired, though… we’d better go grab the dog before I collapse. Haha,” she added.
Besides, I kind of want to see what the fuss around all these fairies is about, Juana thought to herself.
Waking with her alarm, Leisy yawned and slid off the rudimentary bed and dressed quickly. She’d set her alarm early with the intention of giving her Pokemon a quick training session before the day started, and she intended to make the most of the time she had before Ella woke up. There would be no more one-hit-KO’s, or at least not because Leisy failed to train her Pokemon. First, though, she had to get to know her Ghastly.
“C’mon out, Gastly,” Leisy said, releasing the purple Ghost-type. Doing a three-sixty, the Gastly grinned a fanged smile at its trainer and darted up and down in the air like an eager puppy. “Hi Gastly,” Leisy said with a hesitant smile. So this was the Pokemon that had chosen her as his trainer? Other than the fact that the Gastly seemed to be quite happy and mischievous, Leisy didn’t know what to think of the Ghost-Poison dual, which prompted her to pull out her Pokedex and start reading.
Gastly is largely composed of gaseous matter. When exposed to a strong wind, the gaseous body quickly dwindles away. Groups of this Pokémon cluster under the eaves of houses to escape the ravages of wind.
“Huh,” Leisy said, frowning as she studied the Pokemon’s entry, “Immune to Normal, Fighting, and Ground-type moves? I guess that makes sense,” she said, looking up at the Pokemon who was now doing slow backflips in front of hair while hanging its tongue out crazily. While she’d heard of studies on Ghost Pokemon, she’d never really looked into them, hence the general unfamiliarity with Ghost-types. The Ghastly, however, looked like it liked her enough that she didn’t see any reason to worry. “Tyrus. That’s what I’m going to call you,” Leisy said with a faint smile, “after the ancient city of Tyre that was renowned for its purple dye.”
Grin widening slightly, the Gastly drifted forward and stuck its tongue out. Leisy moved back a split-second before the gaseous Pokemon could lick her, uttering a tiny yelp of surprise. “Tyrus! No licking!” Leisy said, eyes wide as she held her hands up in surrender. The Gastly retracted its tongue, spinning around and grinning but calming down. Smiling, Leisy pulled out a box of berries from her bag. “Do you like berries?” she asked the Gastly who grinned in response, darting its tongue out briefly with a grin.
“You got yourself a partner for your walkabout,” Shanae said with a grin, pulling out a Pokeball and releasing her Jigglypuff. “Amatorius, Raven,” Shanae said, gesturing at the boy next to her for the pink Pokemon, “Raven, Tori.”
A cool misting on the tip of her nose prompted Shanae to look up at the sky. It had started to rain very lightly, collecting the smoke into the droplets and escorting them into the drains and thus lightening up the air. Taking a deep breath, Shanae savored the humid but freshening air, delighted that it wasn’t too heavy as to dissuade travel. “So, where to now?” Shanae asked. “Straight ahead? ”
The only light, besides that of the moon, came from Ella's Pokedex. She'd given up trying to sleep, instead deciding to look up information about the town she and Leisy would be staying in for a while.
"Hey, Brighteye, come on out," she said, letting out her new Ghost type, the room lighting up further as the scarlet eye cast a red tinge over everything. She knew most people didn't find the presence of a ghost comforting, but that was no reason she couldn't.
"Hmmm..." She frowned as she read over the text. "Apparently nightmares are a common thing here..." She read on. It seemed the residents of Stillwater believed legendary Pokemon gave people the dreams they deserved. Had she done something wrong? Was it because she hadn't yet succeeded in helping Vivian and her family?
"I'll get stronger," she said to Brighteye. "I have to. There's someone who needs me to."
As it turned out, Tyrus could not only swallow berries whole but also loved them, leading to a rather fruitful — literally — training session in which Leisy learned that the Ghost-type could use Hypnosis, a rather unreliable but interesting move that would cause the opponent to fall asleep. A passing Bellsprout had taken the brunt of that move, although it also became clear that Tyrus didn’t have any major damaging moves. While Lick was an offensive move that sometimes resulted in paralysis and theoretically could knock a Pokemon out, it took much too long for Leisy’s comfort — the battle with the asleep and then paralyzed Bellsprout dragged on so long the Plant-Poison type woke and fell asleep multiple times.
After returning her Ghost-type, Leisy released her Ekans to give it another go at befriending the Poison-type. “Hey Cassia, it’s been a few days here, hasn’t it?” she asked, looking at the snake Pokemon.
The Ekans flicked its tongue out to taste the air, eyes scanning its surroundings warily before coming to rest on the female trainer in front of it. Leisy took the Pokemon’s silence as begrudging acceptance and looked around for an opponent. A Sewaddle emerging from under the bushes caught her attention, and Leisy checked her Pokedex screen for possible moves to use.
“Poison Sting, Cassia,” Leisy said, pointing at the Sewaddle. The Ekans at her side blinked, golden eyes flashing as it slithered over and lashed out at the passing Bug-type. Reeling back in shock, the Sewaddle sustained a slash to its midsection, retaliating with a Stun Spore. Thankfully it missed, allowing for Leisy to order another Poison Sting and then a Bite to finish off the battle. “Good job,” Leisy said with a grin as she squatted down near her Ekans.
Looking at the fallen Sewaddle, Leisy pulled out a Pokeball and threw it at the Pokemon, retrieving it after it stopped rocking back and forth. “Bug-Grass type — this’ll be interesting,” she said before throwing Cassia a berry and returning her. A look at her belt caused Leisy to realize that she now had six Pokemon — meaning that she was now a Skilled-rank trainer. “Well. That was a little underwhelming,” she said to herself, half-amused by the lack of accomplishment she felt. She still had a long ways to go before she lived up to the “skilled” part of her rank, but Leisy wasn’t even close to done.
The trek through the woods and back to the Pokemon Center was a short one, and Leisy was knocking on Ella’s door before long. “Ella, you up yet?”

Cillian woke up to the alarm he’d set, taking a quick shower before heading to the front desk of the Pokemon Center to inquire as to where Tora and Juana were. The Nurse informed him that neither trainer had checked into the Pokemon Center yet, prompting Cillian to walk out of the Center and look for them. Spotting the pair near the mission board, Cillain made his way over. “Tora! Juana! What’s up?”
"Hey, Cillian," Juana said, waving. "We were just talking to this girl about her lost Granbull. Apparently it got lost in the night, and Tora and I are gonna set out to find it."
Juana looked up at the sky. "It's getting-yawn-kind of late, isn't it? Tora, I think we should find Butch first thing in the morning tomorrow after we wake up..." she suggested.
Corphish, however, popped out of its ball and waved its pincers around, eager to pince some dognappers. It frothed and scuttled about, as if to say, Lemme at 'em! I'll pinch their toes!
Juana chuckled. Corphish was brave, of course; but Bounsweet was struggling to keep on Juana's shoulder.
"Why don't you rest?" Juana asked, pulling out Bounsweet's Poké Ball. Bounsweet, without resignation, went into the capsule and started snoozing away.
Corphish gave Juana, Tora, and Cillian an expectant stare.
Juana turned to Cillian. "Anyways, yeah. Penny here isn't too pleased that her Granbull is gone. I think there's safety in numbers; you wanna come with?"
At the sound of Leisy's voice, Ella glanced at the door. "Yeah, I'll be out as soon as I'm ready," she called, returning Brighteye and heading into the dingy little bathroom.
It turned out the water didn't heat up all that much, and while the shower itself wasn't uncomfortably cold, stepping out caused Ella's skin to break out in goosebumps. The chill of the cooling water reminded her of the dream. Shivering, she dried herself and dressed as quickly as she could.
Before leaving to train and explore with Leisy, she decided, it might be a good idea to quickly let her Pokemon get to know each other. "Treasure, Smiley," she said, letting out all three of her Pokemon, "Say hello to Brighteye."
As soon as he saw the Ghost-type, Smiley gave a menacing hiss. Before Ella could do anything, Brighteye took this as a challenge to fight. Her shadow stretched out and lashed at Smiley, getting caught up in the curtain and taking a large chunk of fabric with it. Smiley retaliated by spitting acid, earning a hair-raising shriek from the Duskull. Some of the acid sprayed on the table leg, eating through the wood and making the whole rickety thing collapse to the side. The old-fashioned Pokecentre phone slid off and broke.
"No! Stop it!" Ella shouted, freezing up. "What are you doing?!"
Treasure panicked and tried to put a stop to the fight, only to get in the way of another Shadow Sneak, which sent her flying. "Ah!" Ella watched her crash into a chair, the back of which came off as it toppled. "All of you, please, stop fighting!" Snapping into action, she returned her Pokemon.
"No, no, oh Arceus, no..." she muttered to herself as she ran from the trashed room to the front desk to get her Pokemon healed. What kind of trainer let something like this happen?
Turning her blue gaze to the younger woman, Tora slightly frowned as Juana seemed to want to tag along. Despite being exhauasted, which admittedly Tora was as well, but she felt determined to hurry and find the Fairy Dog pokemon. "I agree it is most likely best to wait, but I worry that when morning comes. We won't find him. If you need rest, you should get some sleep Lady Juana, but I'm going." she said, surpressing a yawn before looking to Cillian.
"If we are going, we best be off. Archie...?" Tora questioned, the Growlithe barking excitedly before darting to the forest, her trainer soon following after to follow into the dark woods.

Hearing Ella’s reply, Leisy decided to use this time to pull out her Pokedex and start reading up on Stillwater. According to the open database, Stillwater was home to many people who realized that city life wasn’t for them, making it a popular stop if you ever had any broad questions about the meaning and purpose of life. The town was noted to have a relaxed and rather slow pace — sometimes a little too slow for those used to the city, it seemed — but overall it was still a living, breathing civilization.
Leisy was just about to open up a file on rumors and miscellaneous information about the town when loud noises — hissing, it seemed, and a shriek that caused Leisy’s hair to stand on end — sounded from inside Ella’s room, prompting the girl to swivel and knock on the door in alarm. “Ella, you okay in there?” Leisy asked. Her friend’s voice could be heard, distressed and panicked as some tumbling could be heard — her Pokemon? Or worse?
Trying the handle, Leisy found that the antiquated metal cogs had long since worn away, allowing her to push the door open. “Ella!” she cried, seeing the mess. Her friend hurriedly returned the Pokemon and ran out of the room before Leisy could stop her, leaving Leisy standing in the room that was beginning to smell of burnt cloth. Looking around, Leisy figured the damage done was relatively small total, and the replacement fees probably wouldn’t amount to much considering that everything was pretty old and worn in the first place. The phone was probably the most expensive thing, looking like it belonged in a museum anyway, and with that thought in mind Leisy exited the room and made her way to the front of the Pokemon Center where Ella was talking to the old man from last night.
“Ella, are you alright?” Leisy asked, rushing to her friend’s side and looking her over. “Thank Arceus you’re okay — that acid looked pretty nasty back there.”
“Acid?” the man echoed, bushy eyebrows rising slightly in surprise before a hoarse croaking noise bellowed out — a laugh, Leisy realized. “Praise Giratina, you youngsters these days really are sum’thin, huh? I can’t even remember the las’ time Toxicroak did anythin’ half as excitin’ as this,” he said, calming down. “Tell ‘ya what — you all come back after you’ve become exper’ trainers and talk to me, an’ we ain’t gotta problem. “Count me in,” Cillian said, chuckling as he watched Juana’s Corphish scuttle around the group, waving its pincers in thinly veiled threats. “Granbull, huh. Don’t people usually make an effort to keep the Fairy Pokemon in their basic form, Snubbull? Since it’s cuter and all.”
Hearing Tora’s remarks about how tired Juana was, Cillian turned to look at the girl. While she was clearly more tired than he was, she still seemed quite determined, and Cillian couldn’t fault her there. “I guess being a Pokemon trainer really is harder than grade school, if we’re going to have all these late nights,” he said with a grin. “But, then again, events like a Pokemon going missing or a mission probably cause adrenaline rushes that would lead to a temporary lack of drowsiness. But, it’s your choice Juana,” Cillian said, waving and following Tora into the woods. “Safety in numbers, but it’d be bad if you passed out on us.”
Turning, Cillian pulled out his Charmander’s Pokeball, figuring that the fire on its tail would provide some light despite raising awareness of his presence in the dark of the forests. “Heya, Haz,” Cillian said, looking down as his Charmander gave him a goofy grin. “It’s been a while since I pulled you out, huh? Not that long, but long enough.” Bending down and giving his Charmander a quick head rub, Cillian led his giddy Fire-type into the forest.
