Small but Important Update!

Someone reached out to me concerning their desire to start off with different Pokémon types than that which are available in Central City. I see how this can be disheartening, as I love Dragon Pokémon the most as well, a type not yet offered.

To meet in the middle on this, I simply slashed the Creation Points necessary to create new content. I want to see new locations and new characters as much as the next person. I think these new prices will help us all in this regard.

Hey man, I checked out your Character sheet. You are all good to go. I do ask you to erase one thing though. "Max 6".

I've decided that Pokémon Parties are just going to be for flavor. When you battle, you can pull from your entire Pokémon inventory. So I'm not going to limit it to any specific number.... I do suspect that most people will voluntarily limit their Pokémon Party to 6.

So I'm noticing that there's quite the plethora of rules that apply to PVP battles. I'm curious, Balth, to what degree these rules apply against NPC trainers, which I imagine will be a good deal of encounters in a story such as this. At least, that's what makes sense to me. In the back of my mind I'm worrying that there basically won't be any NPC trainers until someone gets enough CPs to make one, and only then can the players stop battling one another. Looking at the fact that you've assigned a CP total for yourself (and thusly might not be making anything unless you yourself earn CPs) is what somewhat legitimized this concern for me.

Also, you mentioned that CPs are earned for IC posts. Does this include IC posts made during battles? And I have to ask, going to the trouble of creating more threads for every battle seems like a big-time complication--one I've never before encountered in all my time RPing. I don't want to question your authority, on the chance that it might preemptively sour our relationship, but for the sake streamlining the process, visibility for other players, and not potentially cluttering up other sections unduly, wouldn't it make more sense to have battles play out in this thread's IC, and Pokemon be revealed not in a characters tab but in PMs?

To be honest, you have caught me. I have not given any thought to battling NPC trainers. For now, I would rather to first see how well a system of only user generated characters might work. I'll explore this idea more with you later.

And yes, Creation Points and Trainer Points will be earned in battle posts, but they won't be awarded until the end of the match like all the other rewards. As far as the "creating separate posts for each battle" issue is concerned, I believe this to be the best solution for us. I can only imagine the confusion on a possible new trainer's face when open the IC thread only to find multiple posts with multiple trainers all battling in different battles. I think this would be intimidating.

That is why the current system is in place. People can always follow the link to your battle if they want. Heck, you can even let others post in the IC section of your battle thread. That way, their character can comment on the battle. This way, all the posts involving the battle are located in a clear condensed spot, rather than being scattered about in the main IC thread, among a plethora of other posts... many of which, not even about the battle.

I hope this helps, and I hope you give this system a chance. If you decide not to however, I can understand.

I actually, having read the battle section after reading Lugu's post, reviewed what we're allowed to do and making multiple threads for a battle or battles is a no no. More accurately, multiple threads as they pertain to one RP, unless the first thread is full, is not OK. It's considered spam and we can all get flagged and/or banned for it if we insist on doing it. Part of RPing in a thread like this is that you see the battle, perhaps THAT'S the event you choose to open up the RP with. I mean, I don't want to overstep my boundaries, though I might have already, but where's the harm in having it here?

I've been a new RPer, and honestly, part of the fun in reading through a thread with conflict is the battles and it can help create attraction to an RP.

I can see where you're coming from, but in every other RP I've ever been, battles between two players play out on a post-by-post basis and it works fine. Conflict between characters is as much of a part of a story as any other parts, and so wouldn't be an undue burden in the reading phase, at least. Additionally, by giving each battle post a header...

Will tip people off that a certain post is a battle, and if players (including new ones) really don't want to read it, they can tell what it is before a single word is read and ignore it thusly. Considering Zarkun's points about spamming threads for one RP, a better alternative might be a website called Titanpad (Etherpad and Piratepad work, as well), which allows real-time collaboration between however many people. The two battelers can work it out there, and when everything's been written, the whole thing can be posted to IC as one big text. That way, the IC isn't cluttered by lots of individual battle posts.

I actually appreciate both of your suggestions very fully. I sure don't want to be frowned upon by the admins for creating sub RPs.
