The explosion was the remaining rubble blocking the cave.
It's just Azerus and his Rhyhorn, along with the Casulties mechanic and his Metang.

There may be a battle about to begin, also poachers/Casulties on the way.

@dark light Soooo Earthquake hits all Pokemon in a double/triple battle. Your NPC's Metang isn't resistant to ground-type moves (no levitate) so it'd probably get hit too... Can I assume that it's hit too?

Well that depends if your running purely on game logic or using a bit of visual common sense.
Personally I'd run this battle like it were on the show and not get caught up in technicalities.
You guys are going to win either way, might as well make it a bit of fun.

I'll need a volunteer to be hit by the Metang's psychic.
Think of pikachu vs kadabbara.

You will need to take out all of AJ's Pokemon and get around the psychicly controlled volunteer before you can defeat the Metang.

@Dark Light I'm ok with it being one of Ella's or Florence's Pokemon. If it's one of Ella's, it'll have to be a case of she sends one out only for it to instantly get hit by the psychic attack (the only one she has out at the moment is her Inkay, which is a Dark type and can't be affected).

I'll wait to find out what @Dusksong wants to do though.

@Dark Light@LuckyBlackCat Hm the only Pokemon of Leisy's (that's currently out) I can realistically see succumb to psychic mind control would be her Prinplup, Naunet. Her Pupitar is naturally immune to psychic attacks (being a dark-type), and her Fletchling... I'm trying to keep his clean track record + loyal personality intact haha

That said, her Prinplup's currently attacking the Rhyhorn, so if you want to have the Metang take control of her, you'll have to have the Metang target her. If that's good, I'd be fine with it. Considering that the fight is in front of the cave, it could be assumed that all the Pokemon are in proximity to be affected by the Metang's Psychic, so he could take control of the Prinplup that way.

Just trying to stay true to my starting characterizations + understanding of Pokemon lore.
