I'll tell you how it works, back then the science wasnt advanced enough, thats why people thought the sun was smaller than the earth and it rose in the west and set in the east. Now we have testable evidence to prove that's not the way things work.

I'm sorry this sort of logic just does not work OH MY GOD how do you know the Romans existed, or the ancient Egyptians existed or that the american civil war happened...were you there? No. BUT we have evidence that allows us to see the facts of things that came before us, if science was only based on what happened what during our lifetimes then there would be no need to record anything.

The world is not 6000 years old, that is a FACT, its not an opinion. You dont have to have been there to know that.

I can provide plenty of sources on the history and age of the earth if you need citations but I'm pretty sure you already know all this. I'm pretty sure you know the earth revolves around the sun even though you havent been in space.

Creationism is very much related to religion and goes hand-in-hand with it. Not everyone who is religious is a creationist, but everyone who is a creationist is religious. Attacking someone on their opinion of creationism is attacking them on their religion. Now I'm all for attacking people for their religion but for people who aren't it would be hypocritical to insult another based upon their belief in creationism.

At the end of the day, I would bet Sleepy Ben is smarter than any one of us in this conversation due in part to a combination of his years of wisdom, experience, and learning. If you think he's stupid because he's a devout Christian then you have to first realize that you're below the bar you're about to set.

You can be really smart in one area and a complete mess in another. We all know things that Ben doesn't know, for instance. And I am not just talking about what your mom looks like naked. I'd suspect most people in this thread have skills that Ben would take a while to master, for the same reason he has skills that took him (and would take us) decades to master.

Which is to say just because a person is accomplished doesn't mean you can't question their competence in other fields. And since we are talking about people running for public office, it's almost our duty to question them. I have more than once been persuaded not to vote for someone because their religious devotion caused me to question their judgement.

You cant prove a negative, thats not how claims about reality work. And yes there is physical evidence to prove the age of the earth, Radiometric Dating, Geology and even astrology to name a few.

If I said that I was visited by an anime unicorn, I would need to prove it. But based on what we understand about reality, we would reliably be able to say that I was lying and that my claim was false. That is the same standard we hold the biblical claims to. The earth isnt 6000 years old, and snakes dont fucking talk. These are facts proven with physical evidence.

If you want to infer that some sort of magic took places to bend the laws of reality, then you will have to demonstate how this magic works for the claim to be taken seriously as even a possibility.
