Zeroth

Two decades ago, alien creatures descended upon the world. The kingdoms of the north, south and west finally joined forces after centuries of backstabbing and warring to counter this threat. However, even with the valiant efforts of the most promising heroes and warriors, the tide of darkness slowly started to shatter the land piece by piece and replaced it with something corrupt and twisted. While there is still beauty in the world, it's all at risk to falling to the dark moon and there seems to be no way of stopping the coming flood.

So desperate times call for miracles and for the first time in recorded history, the land started to see legendary heroes from the past being revived across the world. The mysterious deity Vis is the only one capable of such a feat and many praise her for once more saving her children - even though she does not oft interfere with mortal affairs. The heroes find themselves torn from a time long past to see that kingdoms have fallen, friends have disappeared, and the lands are being change in ways they could never imagine.

Rules

• I have a vision for this setting, which isn't fully explained, partially to not give spoilers. I won't budge on this, however, I will work with you as best as I can - if you are intent on playing this story with me. If your character doesn't fit, that's okay, I wish you the best elsewhere.
• Characters can, for the most part, be injected into the story at any point I believe.
• Any Co-GMs are to be listened to just as much as myself, unless I overrule obviously.
• I won't kill off the heroes, though doesn't mean things will be easy.
• There will be more slice of life type of scenarios, since I adore them as much as adventure. Drama is accepted here.
• Romance and everything included is fine here, but anything sexual, please take elsewhere to follow guild rules.
• I will be posting once a week at least - if you haven't posted by then, you'll be given one chance to at least explain you're busy but still intend to stay. If I post twice and you haven't been heard from, we will move on without you. I stay at home and this is for me as much as others, meaning if you can't keep up with that posting speed, then this role-play isn't for you.
• One Major post per GM post - multiple minor posts for conversations or other actions that don't progress the 'current scene' (i.e. The overarching plot). Collabs are totally cool though.
• The power levels are more epic, but don't create demigods.
• I won't start the role-play until there's at least 4 other committed role-players.
Setting

The world, called Arlina, is normally one filled with various climates from the deserts of the south to the snowy mountain ranges to the north, while the east and west are homes to more temperate climate such as plains and forests. However, appraoching from the east, is the darkness. The land has been transformed into a twisted frozen wasteland that seems to always be shadowy with the Dark Moon hanging in the sky - even in the lighter lands. The shadow lands are filled with abombinations of a dark and alien origin, things that even necromancers might shudder at, making even the front lines a dangerous place to be. The kingdoms of the east have fallen since, but the other kingdoms survive still, though the north and south are facing the most danger currently.
Places of Note

Illisk: The Northern Kingdom is ruled by the barbarian king Mel. It's known as a more tribal setting than anything, but it's a kingdom none-the-less. Though the population is less than the others, it boasts some of the most fearsome warriors to ever exist. Even though the word 'barbarian' is used, no one mistakens these noble tribal people as unrefined except the uneducated or arrogant. Their main income is exporting exotic furs and hiring of mercenaries. Currently, they are holding their lines far better than the southern kingdom.

Zidel: The Southern Kingdom, ruled by the Council of the Twelve. Mostly made of mages and exotic powers, they are a desert people. Mostly traders of exotic gems, artifacts, and mystical objects, usually the most renown mages are from this area - at least in modern times. They are having the most trouble with the coming tide though, since it's warriors are more agile, quick, can endure, but don't often have the strength to fight the alien creatures.

Vraweth: Queendom of the West is ruled by a desentant of Ovelia Pendragon, Meliadoul. Nestled between the great forests and the plains leading to the center trade city. Also known as the City of Knights, it has several knight battlions as well as the famous Knight Commanders. While not being directly attacked, they none-the-less send their best to the front lines, though four of the commanders are in Zidel, while two are in Illisk, and the last stays by the queen herself.

Bervenia Trade City: Right in the middle of the plains sits the great trade city. It's a hub for all rulings and is run by the neutral, but mysterious Twilight Trio, who employees the Star Knights as watchful guards. There isn't much known about the rulers other than they enforce neutrality within the walls of the city. Though it's a fair bit away from the fight, it is known the Star Knights are getting ready to deploy to help the other rulings, making it obvious the Twilight Trio seem to understand the gravity of the situation.
Magic

Arcane Magic: What you might expect, using words and motions to manipulate the other dimensions to create spell effects. There are eight schools of magic.
  • Abjuration: Spells that protect, block, or banish. An abjuration specialist is called an abjurer.
  • Conjuration: Spells that bring creatures or materials to the caster. A conjuration specialist is called a conjurer.
  • Divination: Spells that reveal information. A divination specialist is called a diviner.
  • Enchantment: Spells that imbue the recipient with some property or grant the caster power over another being. An enchantment specialist is called an enchanter.
  • Evocation: Spells that manipulate energy or create something from nothing. An evocation specialist is called an evoker.
  • Illusion: Spells that alter perception or create false images. An illusion specialist is called an illusionist.
  • Necromancy: Spells that manipulate, create, or destroy life or life force. A necromancy specialist is called a necromancer.
  • Transmutation: Spells that transform the recipient physically or change its properties in a more subtle way. A transmutation specialist is called a transmuter.

Divine Magic: Granted by various divine beings or even in some cases, Vis herself (whom is the only true deity). They are normally called blessings rather than magic. They can be permanent passive effects or active spells like arcane magic. Though they normally have to do with the divine being in question, for example if the divine being hates the undead, blessings will be geared towards smiting or guarding against undead.

Artifacts: Can be of an arcane or divine origin. They are very rare items of such magical power that they are wholly unique and one of a kind. In truth, they can be capable of nearly anything, outside of time manipulation and other god-like abilities.

Clockwork: The invention of the western peoples of times past, things like this still work, from airships to golems. Sometimes ran on magical steam sources or the only time magic avaiable to mortals in the form of clockwork mechanisms. The only thing that does not exist is gunpowder.

Magitech: A combination of arcane magic and clockwork, often powered by more magical sources or used in sync with arcane spells - namely it's just a flavor of clockwork that is more accessible via mages.

@Lyla

This picked my curiosity quite a lot. The mix of elements strikes my fancy quite well.

I can try doing a character if this is still accepting.

Hum.

I think I can throw my interest in. I'll see if I can think up a character, if there's still room.

@Crusader Lord - I think the only thing I might adjust... is the dragon. Mostly that she can only call him on special occasions? Or that he cannot change size, unless he wants to, as a character - which I imagine he might have better things to do. xD

Actually, I'd like the sword toned down a little too - namely giving the wizard limitless energy seems a bit much. Also the giant energy laser attack should be limited somehow. Maybe just by the fact that one can guard against it using another magical blade or shield maybe? Obviously for 'normal' spirits, skeletons, or orcs it'd be game over.

@Lyla Ok, i simply made the sword's reserves "immense", but "definitely not infinite" as i think i edited it to be. That, and the "destructive beams" have a mandatory cooldown ranging from several hours to several days depending on how powerful an attack she uses. In other words, no spam from this sword's special attack.

As for the dragon, made him stubborn, only able to change his size himself, and it not like he would agree to being summoned too often as well with his demeanor.

So, is this enough? Do i need to limit any other parts or such?

@Crusader Lord - I think those changes are manageable in my eyes. (AKA Approved!)

Also to everyone, added our own private Discord channel! It's also in the OP.

Hey, I've been looking for something a little different from what I'm used to and this looks perfect, is there still room? I'm eager to throw my hat into the magic medieval folk hero ring. Maybe a spirit-speaking Sinbad type, I'm a sucker for the Arabian Nights.

@Tominas - Haha, sure, go ahead! I'm kind of letting more in than I'd normally be comfortable with, on the off-chance people either disappear or have real life stuff happen. ^-^

Well hey, thanks for letting me swoosh in :)

For character creation reasons, and I may be missing something obvious here, but is there an ocean anywhere, border wise? Namely, what are the exterior borders of the three kingdoms, as I'm thinking about having the ocean matter for my char.

@Tominas - Yeah, it's okay! First time creating the setting, so thank you for asking! Yes, there are oceans to the south, west, and east.. and probably impassable mountains to the north - even by airship. No one knows what's that way.

Sweeeeet. So should I PM for more detailed questions about character creation, or just make the CS and drop it off with you for review? Just trying to keep time consistent with what we already have without jumping on the Camelot wagon, not that a Mordred equivalent wouldn't be a fun concept.
