Matias Rodriguez grew up surrounded by noise. Born into a large family, Matias never really understood quiet. His house was restless and energetic at all hours, from the moment his Mom kicked open everyone's doors to drag them out of bed to when his father headed to bed just moments before sunrise. He never really understood the concept of silence. He was just like his siblings, running before he could walk and shouting before he could whisper. And when you're surrounded by noise, you have to be louder to be noticed he quickly learned.
His eldest sibling, Maria, was hailed as a musical prodigy. She grew up playing the piano and the violin and loved the spotlight. Trailing Maria by a year was Eduardo, a serious and driven man who held all the hallmarks of an elite business man. Mateo and Matias took to spiking his drinks with vodka on the weekends. Vodka Eduardo knew how to relax, unlike sober Eduardo. Mama would always chastise the two but the twitch of her mouth always undercut her lecture. His younger sister Sofia was an artist at heart. She currently studied at SCAD for animation and design, focusing in 3D. On her final year, her senior project had already attracted the attention of Pixar.
Matias and Mateo were the middle children – identical twins in fact. Suffering from the dreaded middle child syndrome, Matias and Mateo quickly earned their reputation for tricks and pranks. Their shenanigans landed them and their siblings in trouble more than once and the hospital nearly as many times. As they grew older, their antics grew more and more complex each year and through it, Matias discovered a knack for machinery and a love for engineering. Mateo discovered an unadulterated loathing for both subjects and instead fell in love with acting and singing.
The pair, despite being nearly attached at the hip, did develop a competitive relationship. Everything turned into a contest, from running downstairs to household chores, and though it excited their parents at first, several broken sets of china and a TV later quickly caused them to intervene. They introduced the two to video games soon after the TV incident. Better to have them duke it out on virtual items than replacing something every other day after all.
Talrae was a graduation present/congratulation present to the twins. The year it released, Matias graduated UCF at the top of his class and Mateo landed a role in an up and coming musical on Broadway. The pair had been forced to separate two years past but gaming had kept the pair in contact. It had been Sofia's connections that guaranteed them two copies. The second they could, the twins logged in.
“Bippity boppity back the hell up!” Matias screamed as he blew the eye out of one of the monsters.
“You still say that garbage?” Mateo snickered as he rolled out of the way of another.
“Just because you're lame now that you're a star doesn't mean you gotta rain on my parade.” Matias grumbled as he turned tail and ran, shoving his brother ahead of him. It was just a simple gathering trip. Head to the resource, head back to town. Simple right? No. Two right turns landed them in a monster's nest and now they were fighting for their lives.
“Yeah well my -damn it! Stupid trees!- talent is locked in this damn game now! I worked my ass off for that spot and -Can they stop throwing things?!- for what?” Mateo panted as he ducked, “To be locked in a shitty – well no its gorgeous, almost as gorgeous as me- game? What the hell am I gunna do when we get out?! They literally give no shits in show business and now my reputation is-” Mateo screamed.
Matias whipped around and froze. His brother struggled against the claws of one of them. His health plummeted. Matias started firing as quickly as he could. His hand shook. A few bullets hit his brother. More hit the monster. The thing wouldn't let go until it shattered with a howl. A he scrambled for their health potions. They hadn't prepared properly. He looked up. The kitchen, glass shattering, his abuelita's favorite wine glass crashing to the floor, him and his brother bolting to their room. It was so far away. It seemed like it took hours. He paused by the gate of his room. He frowned. His room didnt have a gate. He turned to Mateo but he wasn't there. The house wasn't there. Only a road into Genisis city. And no Mateo.
