Once again, cosmic forces are mucking about with mortal lives for their own amusement. In this specific circumstance, a being known only as The Administrator has taken the metahumans, magic users, and other non-humans from the Create-a-Hero Earth and tossed them into a pocket dimension, to follow a set of rules and attempt to win an as-yet unannounced prize. Participants may be unwilling, but refusing to follow the established rules will result in "expulsion". It is unclear whether that means from the game or from existence.
The "game" takes place in a carbon copy of Lost Haven, Maine. All participants have been turned into high school aged versions of themselves, with all powers intact. Any with dead, estranged, or missing families have had them brought back, with no knowledge of anything being strange. In addition, those who had no parents for one reason or another have been assigned to a family in the city. None of these families will register that powers are odd or even out of place, nor will any citizens.
Normal high school rules are in effect, and violating them will result in standard disciplinary action. Expulsion from the school or being arrested means losing any chance of winning the prize, and an email has been sent out stating that those two circumstances could have more dire consequences as well. In addition to standard rules, use of powers except in uncontrollable ways (such as having an altered body) are against any and all regulations, and will be treated as harshly as using deadly weapons on campus. This, of course, means power uses without obvious effects are rampant throughout the school's population. After all, you aren't breaking any rules if you aren't caught, right?
The aforementioned email also laid out the terms of victory. The winner will be the one named Best Student at the end of one year, spanning from Christmas Break to Christmas Break. Anyone eliminated but still inside the pocket dimension will be allowed to disturb the proceedings as much as they wish to. In the event that everyone is eliminated, a "punishment" shall be awarded instead, to the five worst participants.
No foreign technology will be allowed into the pocket dimension except that necessary for survival, meaning power nullifiers, shock collars, laser weapons, mech suits, etc are all banned, but cybernetic organs and the like will be allowed. However, the shop room in the school has quite a few more capabilities than the average school, and, alongside workshops at home, replicas could be made fairly readily.
Rules
A few addendums to the site rules and NMS's CaH rules:
All PCs must be high school aged (15-18). That means that there will be no naughty scenes!
Any teachers can be handled through NPCs, and I don't really have any plans for anyone except the principal, so feel free on that front to develop as you wish.
Please stick to the spirit of the event? Your character is a teenager now, despite all their memories, so they should act like young uns. That being said, trauma is still there and skills are still present, though not as developed as they were. As an example, if someone is an expert fighter or marksman, they are now only pretty good. That doesn't mean their skills go away, only that they are downgraded.
Go ahead and use your old CaH character sheets as you normally would, then adjust as necessary. Do remember that this is a silly anime-style high school event, so no changes will carry over to the main game!
Okay Indy, you got it. Odette will be the first to be converted and then Charlie. Lmao the only time their paths come even close to crossing is in the hallways of a high school in a fictional universe, cackles.
Alias: Formerly known as The Ambassador of the Fair Folk. Prima, Princess, Faerie Girl Speech Color: Thistle
Character Alignment: Chaotic neutral - Villain
Identity: Unknown
Character Personality: Waking up to find herself in the body of her teenaged self, Odette believed she was in a terribly vivid dream. Odette's personality is suitable for Fae Courts and for the halls of an American high school. She remains manipulative, a spectacular liar and a performer. In this pocket dimension she keeps a small posse of girls surrounding her during school hours as a wall. Even closer she keeps faerie spirits. She struggles now more than ever to keep her emotions under wraps, years she spent training herself to appear in control seemed to have evaporated. She is quite prone to tears.
Believes she has the best chance to win the game, she had been taught well how to keep up appearances and operate well under the radar to get what she wants and topple those that would oppose her. Cannot stand crude behaviour or language. In her own personal hell being forced to tolerate it walking the halls of a high school.
Uniform/costume: Age: 17 Height: 5'9 Weight: 130lbs Hair: Naturally long dirty blonde hair, coloured light blue (preference and protection against dark fey) Eye: Light Blue
Round face, smooth skin, no visible scars. Doll-like, with a body of a young ballet dancer.
Having recently entered her pact with Bach, her connection to him has been anchored to a small seedling of a yew tree that sits in her bedroom sill.
With a budget of a teenager, the American dress codes, her elaborate parisian fashion style has been stunted severely. She spends her weekends hunting through thrift stores to build her closet now.
Background: Born in Paris, France to occult scientists, Perry and Tristan Favre. They had intense curiosity in the planes of existence unique to the fair folk. Discovering a naturally occurring entrance into the Faerie Realms they made frequent trips to these realms to collect as much information, data samples, research material to have a better understanding of them. Unfortunately for them a curious Fey spirit followed them back.
His name is Bach. He took a liking to their young 4-year-old daughter all too quick. The first time she became aware of the fey spirit haunting her was seeing him in the autumn; in the Yew leaves falling she caught a pair of eyes watching her. Paying attention and often seeing him out the corner of her eyes they began to interact. In her dreams he would whisper stories of the fair folk. Her parents unaware of the Fey spirit following Odette, her childhood carried on without pause. They moved to America to chase leads on rumoured Faerie relics being studied in Lost Haven. Joining the teams to study their strange origins.
Enrolled at the Lost Haven High School, she complained at length of moving from her beloved city of Paris and promising dance career lined up for her. They convinced her to move with the promise of sending her back to Paris for university. They simply needed time to conduct their research close to the subject. To Odette it simply meant more time to spend with Bach in her newly acquired magic lessons. However, on the day she awoke with her adult self's memories mixing with her current teenaged existence, she was filled with knowledge of years spent studying magic but neither the constitution she once had nor the control. No longer having the countless favours of Fey, her seamless ability to open portals at will, and monetary resources Odette is forced to use her skills in manipulation, small illusionary spells and enchantments to get what she wants. Armed with only her knowledge, she must start from scratch.
Hero Type: Mystic/Acrobat
Power Level: Street Level
Powers:
Opening Rifts/Door Ways– Traversing Fey Realms -> Apprentice levels. Opening doorways are incredibly difficult and draining use of magic, ultimately very conspicuous. She must have complete privacy and time to do her work. Can only open portals to the Faerie Realms.
Spell Casting -> Has an impressive repertoire of spells memorized. Relies on Words of Power to pull magic from the Arcane Stream, however the spells she has memorized are difficult with her lowered constitution and control. What spells she is able to cast successfully are illusionary spells to mask appearance or manipulate the mind in seeing something different, or casting someone to sleep when they are sleepy. Sets small traps to trip or cause sensory confusion like blinding light, overwhelming sound, etc. Trap spells that temporarily glue someone to the spot.
Fundamental-Elemental Manipulation -> Basic manipulation of the magical elements. Earth and Water only, she is able to manipulate the elements on a very small scale. Turning small puddles to ice, using pebbles and rocks to spell something. Shaking the ground to knock something over. Bach supports her by performing his mastery of Earth magic on her behalf.
Item Enchantment -> Able to enchant items with magical purpose, small objects, simple intentions and temporary enchantments only.
Summoning Fey -> Drawing sigils and calling upon the Fey by name. She will strictly only call upon Fey she has met personally for help. Unless she needs their help desperately will she open a portal to them. However her trusted contacts are very few.
Multilingual -> Fluent in French (native), English and Common Fey. Bach however translates and speaks many more Fey languages for Odette.
Social Media Savant Odette is a master of twitter, instagram, and facebook. She's crafted her online profile with precision, holds multiple accounts to cyberbully anyone who would oppose her with embarrassing photos, comments, and spreading rumours like wildfire
Attributes:
Strength Level: Athletic, normal human. Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Normal human. Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: Trained dancer, above average for human. Agility: Normal human. Intelligence: Above average. Well-Developed instincts for when someone is lying or have bad intentions. Skills she picked up with years of dealing with the Fey, tricky and untrustworthy by nature. Fighting Skill: Trained. Self-defence.
Resources: Low, a teenager's allowance.
-> Her privacy is protected by weak charms to ward away intruders. -> The small sapling of the Yew is cloaked by illusion. -> A few favours with the fey she's helped and knows personally. -> One small grimoire, filled with basics. -> Unlimited data and text messaging on her phone as per a condition for moving with her parents. -> Invisible help from Bach, he is able to move undetected to the human eye.
Weaknesses:
Magic Limitations: Her magic is limited to how well rested she is and her calorie count for the day. As a teenager she has, as mentioned comparatively low stamina for her magic and poor control.
Possession: Can not sustain possession, Bach refuses to do so until she is strong enough to maintain herself and Bach's soul. The pact is slowly nurturing that ability.
Human Constraints: While her pact with Bach is a layer of protection against other Fey it is not nearly as strong as it would be with her tattoo charm she has as an adult. Fey can touch her and she is risking her safety now more than ever interacting with them.
Polite to a Fault: Maintaining that ingrained second nature of her manners from adulthood, she is still very adept to speaking and dealing with the Fey knowing their terms and rules. Now more than ever does she strictly keep to those mannerisms, building her reputation from scratch with the Fey.
The Yew Tree: Her physical manifestation of her pact embodied in the sapling. Both a resource of power and her ultimate weakness. A well kept secret.
Supporting Characters:
Bach Earth Fey - Faerie Pact Partner - Language Expert and Mentor
Yellow-green eyes, small horns at the top of his forehead and leaves always seemingly falling from his unkempt hair. Bach is The Ambassador's pact partner and closest friend. He is the primary connection to magic and the Fey. She trusts him completely. He is tethered to her soul. They’ve been friends since she was a young child. He is a scholar by trade, linguist, and well versed in magical education. His strongest abilities lie in earth magic. His patron tree is Yew.
With eyes void and white, his body is largely transparent as the air around him. Loyal and able to inspire the air fey and sprite elementals under his command. He is slowly teaching her the ways of controlling the air, passes gossip and messages from the Faerie Realms to her. Does not give her access to the sprites, neither trusts her with them or them with her.
Princess Lassantra Water Fey - Princess from the Deep - Water Teacher
Ghostly pale hair, grey oily skin that rarely sees the sun, eyes dark as pitch. Princess Lassantra is a close ally and among the first Fey she would consider a friend. Princess Lassantra struggles to maintain her throne from possible usurpers. Odette has played the role of negotiation guided quite heavily by Bach. Lassantra has a crush on Odette and will do free favours of fortune telling for her.
Kendra Umbra Human - Confidant - Best Friend
Chic, steely grey eyes, and lithe. Well liked, and talented ballet dancer. Supportive but always one to take Odette down a couple pegs. They hit off their friendship as both had immigrated from France. Kendra as an exchange student and Odette with her parents on a work visa. Kendra is Odette's opposite pillar in the social scene at the high school, helping solidify their clique of other girls.
Perry - Perenelle Favre Human - Mother - Occult Scientist (Field Researcher)
Mousey brown hair, crows feet around her green eyes, and terrible posture. A brilliant field researcher, bold and fearless. Huge fan of mom-jokes and facebook memes. Eccentric
Tristan Favre Human - Father - Occult Scientist (Chemist)
Dark brown hair, brilliant blue eyes, and a large nose. Happily optimistic and steely focus. His work starts and ends in the lab, though happy to follow behind his wife into the field.
Equipment
Grimoire Tome, tree symbol of protection against magical tampering. Her most important tome of reference.
Alright, I'll throw Kayla into this. As mentioned before, Wanderer and Psion won't be in this.
Character you have created: Kayla Mason
Alias: Formerly known as Fletch
Speech Color (Actually say what you're using): #E38C2D “Fire bush orange” for speech. Simple italics for things that are in her mind.
Character Alignment: Neutral Good - Hero
Identity: Known in school (not her secret identity though)
Character Personality: Unlike her regular personality in the normal dimension, Kayla is more of a social butterfly. Due to the attention she has gotten due to her archery, she can easily hold conversations with anyone that wants to talk to her, no matter if it is with her best friend Mia or with a complete stranger. As a social butterfly, she seems to have a natural charisma about her and has a very good interpersonal skills to accompany them. However, if there is anything that came from the normal dimension to the pocket dimension, it’s her personality when confronted with something she doesn’t like. She can be ruthless, calculating and vindictive if wronged to a point where she seems to act like a total bitch.
Appearance: Kayla has a diamond-shaped face, her face evenly tanned except for a few faint tan lines across the bridge of her nose and from the corner of her eyes to the tops of her ears, though as a teenager, her face is more rounded to how she looked in the normal dimension. Her eyes are upturned in shape, with her irises cognac brown in colour. Her nose is small and snub in shape, complementing her downward-turned lips. She has a few freckles in the area where her cheek bones are, which are slightly present. Her ears are medium in size, her right ear pierced twice in the detached lobes and a bar through the top while her left ear only has one piercing in her ear. Finally, her head is topped with very long, charcoal black hair that is often kept in a ponytail kept behind. She has a straight, lithe body shape that is toned like an athlete.
Uniform/costume: For her general leisure clothing at school, she wears the following clothes; slightly ripped bootcut jeans that are faded black in colour; shirts that are slightly loose over the top half of her body; an interactive smart watch; running trainers of different shades of black, grey and white; and white-framed sports glasses with a smoky grey lens.
Origin Info/Details: Kayla was born in Palm Springs, CA, to Thomas Mason, a USAF Combat Rescue Officer and Koko Morris, a retail manager of Black Foot descent. Her childhood involved moving about to towns and cities close to where her father was stationed. During one of the moves when she was 7 years old, she saw a local archery club and had a go doing the sport. She instantly fell in love with it and picked it up, also moving from club to club during her childhood and some of her teenage life. When she was 13, her parents filed for divorce due to the strain on the marriage of Thomas going overseas, with her mother winning her custody. They subsequently moved to Lost Haven to begin a fresh, stable life.
As she came to grips with the stable life that was about to come, she was signed up to Lost Haven High School as she was growing up, meeting her friend Mia Rice during one math class that Mia had been struggling in. Just before turning 14, she was noticed during one archery competition by a USA Archery coach and began training her for the team for the past 4 years, going all over the world to compete in the sport. By the time she was 16, she reached a career high ranking of 12th in the world U18s. When the news of her reaching the rank reached the LHHS, she had been given permission to do archery at the school and popularity came to her without warning. Since then, her rankings have been holding steady into her late teens.
Hero Type: Human
Power Level: Street Level
Powers:
Archery: Having been an archer for over 10 years, she has an understanding in the care of her bow and is able to shoot at any distance and shoot with near-precise accuracy. If her sight is out of range of her target, she is able to estimate the distance and shoot the distance, often with good enough accuracy to injure the target.
Photographic Memory: She is very good at remembering a lot of things. This especially comes in handy when she needs to remember what it is that she has written down without any hassle, whether it is for school or whilst she is out.
Attributes:
Height: 5’6” Weight: 54.5kg Strength Level: Average Human (archery is Athletic Human) Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Average Human Endurance: Situational, Athletic Human for archery, average everything else Agility: Human Level Intelligence: Above Average (borderline Genius) Fighting Skill: Mastered in archery, unskilled everything else
Resources: Funding is surprisingly Large as she has USA Archery. In terms of her used equipment, it’s Average, though expensive.
Bow: Unlike her normal self, her teenage self isn’t restricted to previous injuries inflicted until after her degree. As she is sponsored by Win&Win Archery, her recurve bow consists of the Win&Win Nano Max in black, white and orange. The limbs that are used for the bow are the Win&Win INNO EX POWER, limb strength set at 34lbs on a draw of 28” on the 68” bow. The string comprises of Fast Flight material in orange and black. During her normal practices, she uses the Fuse Carbon Blade stabilization system, though elsewhere she uses Fuse Flexblades in black. As someone who is pedantic with replicating every shot, she uses a Win&Win Clicker Carbon. Finally, to ensure that she is aiming correctly and the arrow is further stabilized, she has the Shibuya Ultima RC Carbon Sight, Shibuya Magnetic Arrow Rest and Shibuya DX Gold Tip Pressure Button. To keep it all in one place, she keeps the bow, dismantled, in a specially designed backpack to carry along with her usual bag for her school stuff.
Arrows: Her arrows are a carbon fibre-aluminium composite arrows that allow for them to fly quickly from the bow. Both sets are fletched with black and orange feather vanes with an orange nocking point that has a small LED embedded in them so that she can retrieve her arrows to make her appearance in a crime scene non-existent. As she is a teenager and retains the memories of her normal life, she doesn’t have the means to develop all of the usual arrows. Instead, she has two choice of arrow tips: broadhead and target pile (don’t snicker, actual archery term)
Hip Quiver: As she no longer has the technology to use both her leg and hip quivers, she solely relies on her hip quiver for holding all of her arrows. Her quiver is the Bearpaw Traditional quiver in black. In the quiver, her Win&Win Tab, orange Beiter armguard, finger slings and archery care equipment are stored. In order to keep the arrows in the tubes whilst she is running, neodymium magnets are glued to the bottom so they don’t come out unless when she needs them.
Backpack: Instead of keeping things in her leg pockets, she carries around a sling backpack that carries around her consumable goods such as:
Small first aid kit: She has a first aid kit of bandages and dressings just in case she needs to treat light wounds of herself or the person she is protecting. She replaces the used items at various pharmaceutical stores in the city.
Food and drink stuff: As she trains a lot, she needs to consume more to meet her daily calorie needs.
School stuff: Because you know… school.
Motorbike: While she does not have ‘Twister’ as in the normal timeline, she is not without a motorbike. She instead has a Ducati Scrambler Sixt2 in complete black. She’ll normally keep her keys with her as she wouldn’t be able to wire a thumbprint recognition device to it.
Mobile Phone: Linking to her smart watch is a Samsung mobile phone, funded by USA Archery and comes with all the necessary archery apps that Kayla needs to succeed in archery.
Weaknesses: While Kayla is an impressive athlete and archer, she is still human and can be injured like one. This is not helped with her costume being geared towards mobility, speed and practicality to use her bow. Another flaw she has is that when she is at full draw, her concentration is purely on the target, so is vulnerable to attacks from any other direction.
Supporting Characters Thomas Mason – Estranged Father Koko Mason – Mother Mia Rice - Childhood Friend
