In this world filled with magic, there are many magical academies, they are synonymous with pride, legacy, excellence and most kids dream of joining one, dreams that are hardly fulfilled as these elite institutions don't just accept anyone into their ranks.

Well... most of them. There are always exceptions.

Fae Creek City Academy is pretty much open to anyone, this is not born from a spirit of inclusivity or any sort of philosophy, it's mostly just a very sad mix of desperation and greed.

See, Fae Creek City (it's more of a village really), or as many call it, Faker City, is in the purlieu of the empire, the western frontier to be exact, and things such as "law" and "government inspections" aren't very common around there.

This means its magical academy is very much free to do whatever it wants. Dubious teachers, dangerous experiments and expeditions and a high fatality rate (thankfully they also have white mages ready to pick whatever is left for resurrection spells, they don't allow students to just die, not before they pay their loans)

Of course, this paints a bad picture of the academy, many ask "why would you ever go study there?", well, because again, they accept anyone. There are no background checks to see if the person isn't a spy or delving into dark arts, the entrance test is as easy as writing your name and even people who fail at that can get in since the staff can be bribed with pocket change.

The RP

This RP still without a name is a simple concept: Its yet another take on the concept of magical schools, I know, its super rare to see one of these. Its a more comedic and casual take on the concept. Players are free to actually explore magic and get wild, they won't be given a small list of magic types or elements to pick from or have to follow countless rules on what they can do to keep things balanced.

There will be non-mandatory classes, school trips and assignments.

The Characters

Many character types will feel at home in the run-down, corrupt institution know as Fae Creek Academy. Rich kids who just need that magician diploma, distracted witches prone to causing accidents, people whose magical powers are naturally chaotic, mad inventors who cannot do what they want to do in any respectable place and, perhaps the most unfortunate types, kids who are putting some honest effort into it but are born with very low affinity to magic.

Age range would be 15-19 but there are some sad cases of people still stuck in there well into their 20s

The tone of the RP

As the plot hook implies, a lot of things go wrong in Fae Creek. It wouldn't be out there for some students to die, multiple times even. However, to keep with the light tone of the RP and avoid moving into the macabre, these things will follow something close to cartoon logic / cartoon violence instead of realistic stuff.

For player who don't want silly/quirky characters, going for a straight-man archetype who either ignores or calls out the stupidity around them is fine.

I'm interested in this. Might reuse my wacky upskirt-giving overly enthusiastic half-mad scientist mage from another magic academy to that got abandoned.

So, how bad are things in Fae Creek? Are one fifth of the female students pregnant with half-demons, one kid permanently a cat because the school can't afford to change him back and half of the quidditch team riding mops?

Pixie dust is probably contraband in this setting.

This sounds fun, are all players expected to be students or are faculty members also permitted?

Wow. When I went to sleep I thought this was dead on arrival so I am very happy that suddenly a lot of people showed up.

It will take a bit for me to make a thread, probably until sunday, as I need to find pictures for the teachers and all that.

I will post the character sheet though so people can start planning.

@Chiro The last demon who tried infiltrating Fae Creek ended up suing the place, also kinda bold of you to assume they have a stable supply of brooms.

@Zinita Given the tone of this RP, should character images be anime-esque, or no?

@PsyBlade I think drawings in general yeah, I feel like a photo faceclaim wouldn't quite fit, but I don't think I would go as far as blocking someone going for that.

Interesting... Most interesting...

My thanks for bringing this to my attention, Shifter_Master.

This appears to have the potential of being a glorious buffet of madness, and I should very much like to partake of it.

@Zinita. Question: is the world medieval or modern? If the world has a mix of "ages" what does the academy tend to sit at? (You put robots and elves into the CS)

I get the feeling you're going for a "let the players make it up unless it is contradictory to what has already been made" worldbuilding, which is fine, but it means we should probably keep track of all the stuff that does come up.

Oops, my bad. I was going to address this in the OOC but I see how the info is useful now. World is something like late 19th century or pre-WW1 20th century in some aspects (airships, electric light, fashion of the common folk) but heavy industry itself isn't too common outside of a few cities. Most of the world is still rural settlements or wilderness, a lot of places have feudalism or other types of monarchy, but there are also some republics.

Not that it would matter for anyone playing a robot, there are many ways an automaton could have been made, from ancient long lost tech to some dwarf's personal project which could still fit the setting if it was medieval. The reason I picked the time frame I did is mostly for the amenities, the options of transport, choices of activities and the ease of communication while still being back in time enough it doesn't feel like a modern day RP, especially if you aren't in the capitals of the world.

The Federation is something close to the holy roman empire, as in a lot of semi-independent states with their own culture and political systems yet under the same figurehead emperor / government, but in the scale of the British empire, as in having a lot of land all over the continents, so characters can be of a variety of species / ethnicity / cultures and come from places that are feudal / theocratic / tribal / etc. but still be equals in the nation.

I am writing a lot for something that won't really be relevant in the RP lol but maybe the world building helps some to get a few ideas for characters.
