Premise

You’ve received a nomination for an award!
Upon arriving at the Château, you get settled in and meet the other nominees. All seems fairly normal. Though, it is strange all of the nominees are in radically different fields than your own. Some are scientists, others are teachers, two apparently are rival YouTube ghost hunters. There is no consistency. Most awards are for specific fields, but who is to complain? Being nominated for such a prestigious award is worth a little strangeness.

The next morning it is discovered, one of your number was killed. A preschool teacher named Renee Tanner. You had met her, she was very sweet. Who would kill her? Why would they kill her? Will the awards still happen? Will you win?

Location

The grounds of Château de La Lune are a sprawling and varied estate, located on a hill, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding island and the distant horizon. The area is dotted with places of beauty, mystery, and quiet contemplation.

To approach the house, you drive through a picturesque vineyard on the southern edge of the property, with rows of vines stretching across the hills, reaching their peak in the summer months. As you wind your way to the entrance, the atmosphere becomes calm and serene, setting the tone for the grandeur of the estate.

The main entrance sits on the southern side of the house, with elegant stone pillars and an ornate gate that opens to the drive. To the east, lush gardens sprawl outwards, leading to the edge of the property where colorful flowers bloom throughout the year. The air is thick with the fragrance of fresh blooms, creating an enchanting atmosphere. To the west, more vineyards continue, their grapes ripe for the harvest, while to the north, the estate gradually slopes down toward a tranquil lake that mirrors the sky.

The lake provides a serene backdrop to the property, its waters calm and reflective, framed by gentle shores. A small boat is tied to a nearby dock, ready for a peaceful row or to simply enjoy the quiet. There is also a small boathouse, which contains an old canoe, a nod to the estate's past.

The grounds also feature a well-maintained pétanque field, where guests can enjoy an afternoon game of this traditional French pastime. The gentle slope of the lawn offers a fantastic view of the surrounding natural beauty, making it a perfect spot for leisure.

Further into the grounds, a mysterious graveyard lies nestled among ancient mausoleums and weathered headstones. Many of the stones are so old that the names and dates are unreadable, with only faint marks remaining. The graveyard is quiet, peaceful, and strangely beautiful, a silent testimony to the generations that once lived here.

A lone, old church stands at the edge of the grounds, its weathered stone structure serving as a relic of the original monks who settled on the island. The church is seldom used, but its architecture adds a sense of solemnity and history to the grounds.

The vineyard, the garden, and the expansive grounds themselves are not only for beauty but also serve practical purposes. The estate’s vineyard yields its harvest annually, shipping its grapes off to the nearby winery, contributing to the island's agricultural wealth. The garden, with its twisting paths and hidden corners, offers moments of solitude and reflection, though it’s easy to get lost within its labyrinthine design.

In all, the grounds of the Château de La Lune are a blend of mystery, beauty, history, and quiet repose, offering an escape from the world in its own special way.

More details to be revealed. Keep an eye on the character tab.

Rules

*Rules are enforced and you will be removed if you break them.
Applications:
-PM the CS. DO NOT SHARE WITH OTHER PLAYERS.
-Change the color code to a unique one (i.e. not in use by a current character). Please try to avoid colors that are very similar to the eye as well. (I, the GM, will let you know if the color is close to a previously submitted CS. It will be first come first serve)
-Choose a face claim for your character that is not currently in use - if you're not sure if someone is using that FC, ask the GM. Face claims must be real-life images - not drawings. (I, the GM, will let you know if the face claim is already in use. It will be first come first serve)
-The GM can refuse a concept for any reason, yet will generally work with you to fix up the character until they can be accepted.
-All relations must be approved by both parties. For example, you can’t have a crush on someone without first checking with the player that it is okay. The same goes for hating each other.
-The GM will check your posting history / previous RPs - you've been warned.
-Under Extras in your CS please post a link to a post you have done in the past to show you have read the rules. If You submit a CS without this it may be declined.
Special - To Newcomers To The Guild - Pm The Gm for a tidbit to add under extras instead
Post Content
-No use of slurs in posts. Sure, you may be playing a racist white guy from the 1950s, so just use asterisks - you'll convey the same idea. This also goes for terms like the r-word. Do not use them.
-Nudity needs to be run by the GM before posting. In general, this is PG-13 when it comes to romance, sexual interactions, exposure, and so forth... Violence-wise, anything goes. This can get gross.
-Fade to black for things that verge into the area of smut/other taboo subjects. Seriously. Your post will be deleted otherwise. Don’t break guild rules.
-The world and NPCs and events are controlled by the GM. If the GM says it's raining, then it's raining. Results will be randomized per dice mechanics.
Posting & General Behavior
-Follow all of the rules of the forum - they're the law of the land.
-No meta-gaming. No controlling other PCs without permission (that permission must be given in a place where I, the GM, see it).
-If you need an extension or you're struggling - or even if you just aren't certain what to do - please reach out to the GM! Communication is key.
-All posts are backed up on the backup forum after they have been posted - the GM will provide the link for this forum. It only takes a few seconds and it ensures all your hard work is preserved!
-You can only post once per round. If the GM hasn’t posted since your last post you cannot post again. You must post every round. If you miss a post between GM posts without having previously spoken with the GM you may get removed from the RP. This is important as it helps keep the RP alive. The GM will post once every 7 days, or faster if everyone has posted.
-If you need an extension, ask!! Extensions should be requested no later than when your last post reads as 6 days ago. If an emergency comes up on day 7, of course, come and talk to us - we'll be more than happy to work something out. It's very rare that an extension request is denied.
-You may NOT copy and paste something from someone else's post and add it to your own. This includes dialogue.
-Minimal 2 posts between your last (This means if you posted last in the last round you have to wait for the GM to post, and then one other person.)
-No editing posts without GM approval. Do not edit posts without approval. Even if it is just to fix grammar or code. Please ask the GM for approval. I will likely give it. If you edit your post without approval you will be removed.
-Each post should include two well-developed paragraphs (please don't make me define how many sentences are in a paragraph. If they're long sentences, then sure 5 is fine - if they're shorter, maybe 15 is best). If you want to post longer than that please do!
-Read all posts! Seriously, people are reading yours so spread the love and read theirs!
-No tagging for interactions in your post - people use this as a crutch usually to get away with not reading everything. You can say where your character is in the Château so people in the Hall (for example) know you’re there.
Other:
-Character deaths will happen, no one is safe - it will be randomized and you will be notified when your death approaches. This is also unlikely to happen. This is why you’re allowed two characters. Bringing in a new character will be difficult once the RP has gotten past Day One.
-The GM reserves the right to make decisions as to how much additional time, if any, will be granted to post if the forum is glitching. A week to post is plenty of time even if the forum glitches a day or two. But usually, I do tend to be pretty generous about it. Please communicate!
-Rules and character sheets will be added to and changed as need be depending on problems or points that come up.
-Under Extras in the CS also mention your favorite Fantasy Storyline so I know you at least skimmed this.
-Check the discord chat once a day. Invite will be provided by the GM.

Character sheet

Your CS's will be private. Please make sure you PM them to me. DO NOT SHARE THEM.
Some information will be shared publicly.

A few ground rules for you and your characters:
  • Cannot speak French (where would the fun be in that). If you speak French in real life that’s fine, just don’t metagame.
  • Is up-and-coming in their field. That field can be anything, from teaching preschool to a scientist. Please have no major contributions to your field at this time though (you know, don't want people that when they disappear are actually noticed).
  • It is possible for your character to have knowledge on wine and wineries but they do not work for a winery, and are not well versed in the practice of winemaking.
  • Please use new characters. As much as I love all of the characters from other RPs I think it would be best for all new characters and drama to play with.
  • No meta-gaming. I feel like you all know this, and I trust you all to comply. It is what makes this game so much fun. (Since I know some of you know French IRL, this is especially important.)
  • Relationships: now while the world is small and some of you may be from the same profession none of the characters are to know each other prior to meeting at the Château. You may have heard of some of the others, but you’ve never met before.
  • What type of phone do they have? And which carrier?
  • Also something that is not on the CS, but I would like to know when you send it in is: Specific reason for not telling family members why/where they're going, specific reason for accepting the invitation, and anything else you feel is important to your character. THIS IS REQUIRED.
