On a further note, perhaps for the future. Aevus' limitations would make his Arc of time considerably more limited than you might think. It would mean that literally any form of magic would not be touchable by his Arc of time in a direct manner. So he couldn't slow down or speed up a given magical attack at all.
He also couldn't slow your movement whatsoever by making time bubbles on you.
He'd have to fight by manipulating his surroundings. Using things like "Parallel Worlds," to heat up or cool down things in his vicinity, or use his ability to mess with time flow to stop the movement of air to create a makeshift
barrier of sorts. He could use flow of time to speed up the movement of an object, but only in a given direction (more or less).
While predicting the effects of his magic in one of his given "areas" would be impossible without having a similar ability (or some perceptual ability that allowed one to detect such things), figuring out
where his magic was in effect would be
easy because his magical energy would be present no matter what. That magical energy would be clearly visible and it would have to originate from his body. So anywhere it moved after leaving his body would be clearly visible unless it was tiny.
He would only be able to alter the shape of a given "area" once released unless he combined multiple ones to increase their size. Plus you have to take into mind movement speed. He can't move the bubbles/areas faster than a strong-ish breeze or faster than throwing a rock. This'd basically mean that Aevus wouldn't be unbalanced or OP unless you were incapable of picking up patterns, or he ambushed you, or if you decided to fight him up close and personal, which would allow him to quickly get his "areas" near you, but notably this would also mean he has to focus on dodging while also placing his areas tactically.
Oh yeah, and Aevus doesn't
do ambush. Even if you made him get serious, which I mention below, Aevus would prefer a
fair fight--even if the fight isn't one of evenly matched individuals. He'd prefer to give his opponent a
chance as anything less is boring for him anyways. Not because he's uber powerful, but because that's just the kind of person he is, mind you.
The last thing I'd like to note about Aevus' himself is he actually
makes himself weaker in a sense. It's not because he can't be effective or powerful in combat, but rather because...not only does he not find that as amusing, well...Aevus has a weird--and exceptionally broad--sense of humor. He's the type of person who constantly jokes around, using word play, puns, and any other form of humor in almost all situations purely because it brings him, and often his comrades either joy or slight, but somewhat endearing, annoyance. To his enemies I imagine it is an absolutely insufferable thing to deal with (which is equally hilarious), but also means that he is rarely serious.
In fact, in the RP I used him in previously, the only ways you'd
ever see Aevus drop the pretense and humor was if you hurt one of his Guildmates
severely. Hurting innocents annoyed him, but considerably less so despite Aevus being a generally good person.
So yeah, Aevus' likelihood to take anything seriously was about 10-30% or so. While this wouldn't lose him battles outright, it would give his opponent's openings that otherwise would not exist, or it'd make him frustrating to deal with not because he had a flexible magic, but because he was just...well annoying (but in the good way if you're on his side, or reading his posts lol).
Notably, the three things Aevus can do with Arc of Time at pretty much any juncture that make his magic capable of being fatal are as follow:
- Create many time bubbles with drastically different flows of time. Some that are super slow, others that are really fast and all in between. Then put them in an area while someone rushes at him. While these bubbles are plainly visible, if you hit them, the air in their area could literally rip you apart. It's not influencing the magic or person it comes into contact, but the air particles and molecules that are within the bubbles. This is perhaps his most dangerous technique, but it's something he'd only use if he were serious and you really fucked up. It'd be an ability that I'd see him take out after I asked the GM and he was serious enough to use it. Plus, you'd have been fighting him for awhile and would know his capabilities by the time you used it. So reasonably you'd know to dodge the area of time bubbles, or use magical energy to get them out of the way since his Arc of Time can't directly influence other magic. YOU COULD DISPERSE THE BUBBLES WITH WIND, btw. So the technique has weaknesses.
- Create hyper-thin bubbles of extremely slow moving time with air in them. Surround someone with these bubbles. This prevents air movement, or puts it to a minimum, which would eventually cause suffocation due to lack of oxygen getting to the lungs and thus the body. HOWEVER, he'd have to get these thin bubbles around your body. The bubbles can still be dispersed if you notice quickly enough, and as such it would be difficult to actually carry this attack out realistically. It's predictable...basically. Again not something he'd use often.
- Create blade thin super slow or fast moving time "bubbles" and move them as if they were blades. This would allow him to cut things with the air or material inside the time bubbles. Still, predictable and possible to dodge or block despite being a fast moving attack. Very manageable.
So yeah, despite being a powerful magic, it'd actually be about as reasonable as most magics someone could use. *shrugs*
