I believe that the best video game soundtrack is Pokemon puzzle league, I maybe jaded by nostalgia but that game is the proper mix of everything.

Another game with a great soundtrack is Space channel 5 part 2 but that's if you like jazz.

Skyrim holds the top spot, for obvious reasons.

2nd: Dark Souls. I may have barely noticed the music in the boss fights while I cursed, panicked, wept, begged for my life, and begged for my souls, whenever I lost, and howled my triumph to the skies when I won, but the music made it all the better.

3rd: Demons souls, for above reasons.

Banjo-Tooie for the N64 always had the best soundtrack in my opinion. Matches the game's style incredibly well and is still really enjoyable to listen to.

Wolfenstein: New Order. It both has such a great spin on the 60's sound or parody of existing songs. They told them couldn't turn The Beatles into Nazis, it wouldn't work. But then they did it anyways. And the general ambient/background tracks are great too.

And before anyone dares forget, Jet Set/Grind Radio has a great OST.

Also, obligatory:

Hard for me to choose. MGS, Persona, Deus Ex, Resident Evil, System Shock, and others come into mind...

Though I would go for System Shock 2 soundtrack. It has an amazing, dark, futuristic soundtrack that seamlessly immerses into its world. Honestly it is the only soundtrack that I have ever listened to that fully immerses you into the game.

Total War or Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Both have very memorable soundtracks I hum to myself from time to time. They are ageless.

Halo is pretty fantastic, the music is one of the best parts of the entire series. Mass Effect is also great, especially the third game's OST.

I also really love Spec Ops: The Line's soundtrack, it has some really kickass songs in it.

A silly one would be either Crash Twinsanity or Katamari.

A serious one is probably Fallout: New Vegas or Dishonoured for me.

Inception-moment:
TOS-1 Burritimo.

Our songs didn't suck. Your sound card/speakers just can't deal with it.
-Good level for Halloween, reminds you of thriller

MGS, Lord of Shadows 1 and 2, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma, ZoE: The Second Runner, Dragon Age 2, Persona 3 and 4, Final Fantasy VI, VIII IX and X are the most memorable to me, because I enjoyed the music in them, and would stop to listen to them too.

ones that really stick with me have been ending and boss OSTs
