Ebon may or may not actually black mail Shiro. At this point he is looking for Sapphire's daggers with the intent on using them for his own gain, which may involve black mailing Shiro. Or just calling finders-keepers.

And to me telepathy is much like hearing someone talk: All you have to do is listen. You can whisper to try to hide it, but that implies you know someone is trying to listen. Most people aren't aware of telepaths since they don't go around making it obvious someone is listening in on their thoughts. And as long as Ebon doesn't actually try to speak back, most people wouldn't notice he's listening in unless they actually notice him.

It may be obvious since he has to look at them, but would you really think that everyone that looks at you is reading your mind? Ebon glares at people all the time anyways.

She'll kick his ass if he tries to keep them. Hell her team might not be united on much but I can't imagine that they say no to a collective ass beating to retrieve Sapphire's weapons.

With regards to the telepathy that entirely depends on the type of telepathy present in the canon of the story. If thoughts are generally external and you are doing a passive scan of what everyone's thinking at the time they might not notice but if you have to do an indepth search they're going to be able to feel your presence. That includes things like... sifting through someone's memories.

I'll take my chances on Ebon keeping Sapphire's daggers. Who knows, maybe I'll find some way they could be useful. As for the telepathy when it comes to things like that I usually rely on the fact most people wouldn't know how to deal with it. Everyone is trained to fight grimm, maybe even more conventional enemies. But how often are you going to be trained to fend against mental intrusion? Might as well ask a soldier how to fix a 525I6000 error on your Comcast internet wifi. Unless he runs into it a lot, he probably doesn't know.

If Ebon attempts to claim finders-keepers, Shiro won't take that sitting down. It's a guaranteed fight.

He can always lie and said he couldn't find them. I'm sure Shiro and the others are going to kill whatever is in the lake, so once you guys do that Ebon can hide the daggers somewhere else, and get them later once everyone gives up.

That and I'm sure that would be a terrifying fight.

Shiro's Semblance messes with the senses. Ebon's messes with minds and if he fucks around in Shiro's dome that's a quick way to turn him unstably feral.

Well, as long as Ebon plays innocent and Shiro acts like Shiro, he'll be fine. If a fight breaks out he'll just be on the defensive until everyone else sees Shiro attacking Ebon for some reason, and he'll spin some lie saying Shiro just upped and went crazy. And since Sapphire, Gren, and Abel knows he's on crazy meds, they'll probably think his psychosis has something to do with it before they would suspect that Ebon was screwing with his mind.

Oi. Since when were you some sort of diabolical mastermind, ya codger? I'm the only one that gets to screw with Shiro!

I like to think Ebon as a man of action. While you're scheming and trying to think of ways to do whatever it is you're doing, Ebon goes with the flow and takes advantage of every opportunity he comes by. Works for me too, since I'm usually not on a lot and miss out on things. When something like this happens I need to milk it for all it's worth.

Not going to get any friends acting like that.

Not being able to properly defend against a mental attack makes a certain amount of sense. Leaving out theoretical knowledge like what we have at least. Not even being able to tell if somebody else is reading your mind is something else.

Being able to read a person's thoughts without entering their mind would require that everybody be partial telepaths that send out their thoughts but are unable to pick up those of others.

Either they have to send it out or you have to go get it.

Yeah, I thought Ebon was a tsundere, not a straight up jerkass. Granted we're also talking about things that hasn't really happened yet, but still you're making it seem like you're intent on doing this.

As for the mental thing I do sort of understand the whole "Not prepared to deal with this" sort of idea, but at the same time I still think there should be some way for someone to pick it up. If Aura can be used to heal and create physical barriers, you'd think it could be used to create mental ones as well.

You don't have access to our group doc so naturally you wouldn't have read Sapphire's full bio but Sapphire's father trained her from the age of seven in rather extreme ways. One of which was mental control.

He's gotta be Tsun first before he shows off his dere.

As for the telepathy thing, I guess I'll compromise and say that for most people who at least have an active aura going on, they may feel something strange in his presence if he's trying to read their mind. I just don't want people to get this feeling and then realize he's reading their mind, least of all when all he's doing is reading and not trying to communicate. I hate it when I play a telepath and people just suddenly start discovering their ability to ward themselves against mind reading or become able to pin down exactly who is looking into their heads just by the "strange feeling" they're getting.

I didn't know that, and even then would Sapphire's father be able to emulate someone trying to read her mind? It's very different from just keeping your mind focused at the task at hand or ignoring distractions. It's not even an assault to the senses or mind-altering unless he's trying to use his telepathy to talk to you.

Why are you so intent on making sure no one can resist your telepathy dood? I know we haven't fought Grimm in a while, but c'mon, you make it seem like it's always PvP.
