I didn't know that, and even then would Sapphire's father be able to emulate someone trying to read her mind? It's very different from just keeping your mind focused at the task at hand or ignoring distractions. It's not even an assault to the senses or mind-altering unless he's trying to use his telepathy to talk to you.

Not to sound as though I designed this specifically for you but since its become relevant and likely to pop up in my next post: Sapphire's father was a hard core hunter who turned unstable after his wife died. He put his daughter through some serious shit to make sure that she was ready for Beacon, which included mental training from someone who a telepathic semblance.

@Ryonara Doesn't it feel good posting this much in the OOC? XD

Yeah it's nice to get involved in the conversation for once. Though I should really go to bed now.

Why are you so intent on making sure no one can resist your telepathy dood? I know we haven't fought Grimm in a while, but c'mon, you make it seem like it's always PvP.

You know as well as I do why this matters Lucius, just like in Blood. This is the same thing with Psychomancy: It makes mind reading much less useful if it defaults to everyone having a ward, instead of being something you need to actively obtain. That isn't just for the other players, but any character, NPC or otherwise, who has an aura. And if everyone can tell something is up when he is reading their mind then I might have to spend more points so Ebon can use his telepathy without tipping anyone off.

He's gotta be Tsun first before he shows off his dere.

As for the telepathy thing, I guess I'll compromise and say that for most people who at least have an active aura going on, they may feel something strange in his presence if he's trying to read their mind. I just don't want people to get this feeling and then realize he's reading their mind, least of all when all he's doing is reading and not trying to communicate. I hate it when I play a telepath and people just suddenly start discovering their ability to ward themselves against mind reading or become able to pin down exactly who is looking into their heads just by the "strange feeling" they're getting.

That's funny, because I think most people hate it when someone who plays a telepath suddenly knows everything about your character and can predict everything you do and you have no way to stop it.

Like seriously a telepath without clear limits and boundaries in an rpg sucks for everyone but the telepath. It's basically allows you to metagame without breaking the rules.

And you also know the amount of work I had to go through to balance that out, and I definitely know Ebon's semblance does not follow the same rules as Psychomancy. I agree with Abillioncats, telepathy really is one of those powers that can make and break a character and game. I didn't really think much of it the first time because I figured you were using something similar to Psychomancy, but evidently you have a more juiced up version. It's not my place to tell you to do this Ryo, but you may want to clarify the limitations of your telepathy semblance more. Probably telekinesis too, otherwise you'd just be taking people's weapons right out of their hands or sheaths. Also to post your CS into the CS area.

Later. I rather like it how things are for now, but if the GM's really want me to revise it then I'll talk to them about it. I'm heading to bed.

There is a reason people do that. Playing a telepath is always risky cause it essentially lets you bypass one of the basic rules of RolePlaying without actually breaking the rules. People post stuff internally for a character because they feel confident in revealing certain things about there character to the audience that they wouldn't want the other characters to know. When suddenly you have a character that essentially is able to read the white text no one feels safe anymore. They can't talk about this or that IC without the telepath suddenly knowing about it. Nobody likes to RP with a guy that has no boundaries were information is concerned and so they not wanting to break the rules themselves suddenly develop the ability to counter it.

Telepathy is a risky thing to deal with even when you're writing a story on your own, it has a lot of nuances that must be observed and generally a number of characters that can counter it so that your character can still be put in a vulnerable position to make the story interesting. Personally I don't like including it in RPs unless it has a very clear set of restrictions, weaknesses and drawbacks. Honestly the day that you submitted Ebon for character review I wasn't doing my job as CoGM, I simply glossed over it cause it was a lot of text that I didn't want to read. Lug said it was fine and I figured that was good enough. If I had realized what the semblance was back then I would have raised the issue and had it sorted out from the get go. I didn't and for that I'm sorry but the fact is that you can't have a character that can learn everything about a person, sort through there memories, learn there innermost secrets without being detected. No one wants to RP with a character like that and while I don't have the power to make you change anything if you keep up that he can do that it will get to the point where everyone is going to keep there characters fifty feet away from him at all times. I know once Sapphire realized what his semblance is she'll probably push him into the lake.

@harinezumikouken I think I already told you she wasn't going to take it all too well. I mean she'll defend him to the last from anybody else but it won't stop her from kicking his ass.

I saw it before I posted, since I was mostly talking about the Grimm in the lake I don't think there is anything extremely relevant that needs altering but if you see something tell me.

Wasn't sure if his little fit of kitty rage was enough to antagonize the Grimm at all. That was really the only reasoning behind my mention of it.

People having ready made defenses against something that only one person has so far is a bit out there, yeah. But having telepathy that nobody can even tell is active is just broken from the start.

People can learn how to block physical attacks pretty much instantly. I'm not saying it's the same as a mental attack but it's a whole lot closer than figuring out how to solve a random computer problem from scratch.

Speaking of having ready made mental defenses. I'm with Ryonara on this one. Just happening to have been trained by some level of telepath in case somebody with an incredibly rare semblance happens to attack her is really fortunate and specific.

My brother of southern persuasion.

I'm not going this year, but if you run into some Queenslander chick with the most American name known to humankind, then tell her that she's a hag.

I'm throwing my lot in the pot in the defense of Prince, though my input may seem invalid due to being a fellow co-GM and our characters are on the same team. But, I can confirm that Sapphire's background was written to be that way from the start. However, it's my understanding that Sapphire may have some slight resistance to mental attacks such as forms of being tortured, things of that nature. Not to say she's completely immune against telepaths, but has a higher resistance against them due to her essential 'training' by her father.

Hell, I could claim Shiro has some sort of resistance against mental attacks because it's a jumbled scramble in his noggin but I won't. Should Ebon decide it profitable to attempt to mine his head for information, he'd only really find everything up until one of Shiro's "reset points". Poor guy already sees things that aren't there and voices that tell him nasty things. Ebon digging around in there wouldn't be pretty. For whom, I couldn't tell.

I'm not saying her defense are perfect but yes she has had training. If you actually read her bio it makes a lot more sense than it sounds with me just throwing it out there at a random juncture. The mental training wasn't the strangest or most extreme thing that her father forced her to do. There's more details on it in the team doc which will come out later. If it helps she's not perfect, she has a phobia of swimming from another of her father's extreme exercises.
