This is just your average world-hopping, find-the-dingus RP. You're strangers in a strange land, transported by chance, with no way out but forward. In order to leave this place and go on to the next world, you must find and retrieve a gemstone that will fuel the Chroniker device, your only means of finding home.

The Chroniker Device and Vanishing Stones

CHRONIKER: A clunky steampunky gadget that can be worn on the wrist, that has a slot for a Vanishing Stone. It displays a compass that always points toward the Vanishing Stone. When a Vanishing Stone is inserted and the turnkey is wound, the wearer and anyone touching the Chroniker is transported to a random world. The Vanishing Stone is left behind.

VANISHING STONE: A rough-edged gem the size of a coin, with what appears to be a view of the night sky glittering inside it. When a person touches the stone, they are transported to the world where the Chroniker is located. There is only one Vanishing Stone in each world, and each Vanishing Stone is bound indefinitely to its respective world.

Your Character

Characters should be originals only. They may be from Earth's present, past or future; or from any original, non-fandom world of your choosing. They may be of any race, with any ability and any background you can imagine. Some things to consider:

  • Worldbuilding is encouraged where it directly explains aspects of a character, but try not to go overboard. Most worldbuilding will probably not be used in the RP.
  • There will be moderate opportunity for battle, but exploration, curiosity, puzzles, mystery, stealth, logic and moral dilemmas will be at the forefront. That is to say, no matter how much or how little power or skill a character has, all are equal as long as they make an effort.
  • Characters' actions will lead the story. In this RP, the GM will follow your lead. There is no linear plot. If your character does not act, or waits idly for something to happen to him, nothing at all will happen and this RP will die. I'm trusting you to be proactive and to know what your character wants.

Character Application

Post your CS application in the OOC. Approved characters may be reposted in the Characters tab.

NAME: (your character's name)

ABSTRACT: (one sentence that sums up your character)

DETAIL: (anything and everything you'd like to tell us about your character)

Gameplay

INTERACTION is key. Characters should be prepared to examine and interact with their environment, the NPCs, and especially with each other. The environment and everything around you may be touched, taken, altered or destroyed. NPCs lie. Small actions may have world-shifting consequences. You are the hero -- or the villain.

NAME
Luigsech NicAonguis NíTuathail

ABSTRACT:
A struggling mystery novel writer and former soldier who lives a bitter life on the Island Republic of Éire. She doesn't know what Rome is.

DETAIL:
In Luigsech's world, the Roman Republic destroyed Carthage, but failed to get on its own feet, leaving the Celtic and Germanic cultures of Europe to work on their own, with many empires, kingdoms, republics and chiefdoms emerging in the long history of this new word. Éire is one of these Republics. Lugsech was born on the Island of Éire in the year 1922 around the city of Tara, Luigsech found herself stuck a tense environment as the Great Wars broke out in her young adulthood, 1945. Recruited to defend Éire and sent on the invasion of Englaland, the most dangerous opponent in Albion. Crossing through the war ravaged country of Cymru to meet with her Albian allies as they began the attacks on various cities, but ultimately the 3 year long war between the Celtic and Germanic nations ended without any real change. Luigsech never knew just what was going on, only that the Kingdom of Theudiska was making excuses to start a culture war; they got their chance by attacking Cantabria and Alba's ally, Polska. Now 25 years old, Luigsech is out of the military and trying to make a living in Dubh Linn, writting novels and hiking to both clear her head and get inspiration. It just so happened that this time she wouldn't be coming back home for a while. She looks something like this.

Sorry I'm late, didn't notice it was up :P

Anyway, I'll start working on a character. Shouldn't take that long.

I am worried; isn't this essentially a free RP with a fairly loose setting? As you have pointed out, nothing will happen if the players do not move them, so we need a healthy mix of characters and villians to keep things moving.

I'm also curious what your role will be in this, Mokley. Are you going to make a player character?

I said it shouldn't take very long but now I've taken all day and it's gotten out of hand.

I'd say I'd get it up in a few hours, but there's no guarantee of that either, because if I don't finish it then, I got a bunch of stuff that'll take a few hours, and then some more stuff.

I'll just say that I might get it up sooner or later, but I dunno if it'll be up by tomorrow. Hope you don't mind.

Hi there! It's not quite as sandboxy as that, really. I only mean that there is no linear plot set in stone. Players should never be afraid of "breaking the plot" because there is no plot to break. I'm essentially here to present choices and consequences. I'll be using NPCs, environments, moral dilemmas, etc., but nothing I make is so important that you can't kill or destroy it. And if a PC does end up standing still doing nothing for a turn, the fact that they have not acted could cause something to happen. I'll keep things moving, no worries. :)

@Lord Santa Absolutely! Take your time. :) Even if we start before you're ready, your character can always appear in the RP at any time.

@deadpixel101 That is so weird, I was just thinking it would be pretty fun if somebody made a character out of a video game-like world, and lo and behold! Cool character development concept. Totally approved.

@deadpixel101 A magic world of chess people sounds awesome! :D

I don't have a good reason why you couldn't have two characters, so have at it. Due to the game mechanics, though, it's basically impossible for two people to be transported at the same time from the same world in the beginning. (Essentially one person can be transported at a time, and there's a recharge period before another can follow) You could theoretically play one character for a bit, then later on drop in another, if they're from the same world.

I think I forgot to mention in the intro -- originally I was thinking that each of your characters would begin by finding the Vanishing Stone of their particular worlds: touching it is how they get transported the first time. The stone could just be a pretty rock on the ground, or it could have its own shrine, or maybe it's a part of scientific testing -- whatever your world would do with a little ancient stone with unusual power, if it's been discovered at all.
