The old bus shuddered as it made its way down the sand-coated road, with no stopping point in sight. The sweltering heat made you almost regret your decision, but with the promise of cool air, comfortable conditions, and dueling at the end of your journey, you simply waited. The chatter of other students on the bus made it almost impossible to think, though you tried, as you had an important decision to make. Which structure deck did you want? around 3 weeks ago, at the entrance exams, you were told that you wouldn't be able to bring your own cards, and would instead have to earn the cards you wanted. You would be able to choose a structure/starter deck to start with, and would earn points to buy more structure decks, cards, and packs.
At some point, you noticed a massive skyscraper, which looked extremely out of place here, in the middle of the desert. This was the Duel Tower. You could here the other new students cheering around you as the bus came to screeching halt in front of the school. Your group is stopped at the door by a staff member of some description.
"Follow the blue line on the wall to Arena B. You will pick up a duel disk and a deck there, as well as an optional pack of cards, and then we will commence your placement duels." The staff member stepped aside, letting your journey truly begin.
Steven Ryte
Steven got of the bus, throwing a quick curse at the sweltering head. After the directions were given, Steven stepped into the air conditioned building as fast as he could. As he did, he could hear the collective sigh of relief from the others who were on the bus. Looking around, the blue line diverged at a point, leading to both a staircase, and a hall of elevators. Considering that Steven was in one of the first groups to arrive, the elevators weren't particularly crowded, and therefore, he had no reason to touch the painful trek that those stairs would contain.
Steven heard a loud ding as the elevator doors slid open, revealing the 11th floor, which split into the 2 Arenas, which themselves split into 2 sections. Right as he exited the elevator door, he looked to his left, seeing a teacher standing in front of a rack of structure decks, each of them in factory new condition.
"Alright, students, pick a deck, and if you want a pack as well, just ask me for it." The teacher said, monotone, bored, and in a way that sounded practiced, as if he had done this 1,000 times before. Steven's eyes scanned the decks before he found the perfect deck.
"Geargia Rampage." Steven said, without a second thought. One or two of the students behind him let out a chuckle, as if his choice was immediately inferior to the choice they have yet to make. "No Pack. That would just be a waste of points." Steven looked blankly at the teacher as he was grabbing the deck. The teacher didn't say a word, he just looked bored, ready for this event to be over. He handed Steven his deck, and a standard issue Ryte brand duel disk.
"Your free to wait around for the next 20 minutes or so. Once your group has their decks and everything, we will reveal the duels, and have you duel, I guess." At this point, the teacher sounded uninterested and defeated. Steven walked away from the depressing teacher without a second thought, and made his way to the seating around the Arena. He took his place in the stands, and started pulling his deck from its box.
Hayato heard the bus stop and tried to get off the bus as fast as he could. He hated traveling by car or by bus and was happy to finally get off, wondering what the inside of the building was like. He walked into the building, following someone else who had already entered the building before him. Hayato took the elevator up to the 11th floor with him and quietly waited for the other person to get his deck and duel disk before making a move of his own.
Looking at the uninterested person handing over the deck and the duel disk, he walked towards the teacher and simply told him "Just give me the samurai warlords deck and a return of the duelist pack." The boy quickly received his deck after a long sigh of the teacher. They were opening the deck and replacing one of the cards with another, saying that the card that was in the structure deck was forbidden and needed a replacement. Hayato nodded as he received his deck, pack and duel disk and walked off to the arena and took a seat next to the person he followed. He started staring at the duel disk wondering how to use it "Hmm... My parents had never let me use one of these... How does this even work...?"
Michelle made an effort to endure the sweltering heat. It was only an inconvenience in the journey, albeit a very uncomfortable one. She had made her decision to come to this Duel Academy, and she was not about to let a mere temperature ruin it for her. That being said, though, once the bus finally stopped and directions were given, Michelle went ahead of most of the others into the building, where it was thankfully air-conditioned. Michelle then began following the blue line as instructed and went into the elevator. A short period of time passed as she waited for the elevator to take her to their intended floor.
Getting out of the elevator, Michelle went over to the seemingly uninterested teacher who explained about the decks and packs. Looking over the choices, Michelle eventually said, "The Knights of Light structure deck, and the Duelist Genesis pack." After the cards and Duel Disk was handed to her, Michelle went off into.the stands and took a seat, then opened her box and pack of cards and started looking through them. The pack contained only cards useless to her current structure deck, but perhaps they could become useful in time.
Megan gave a sigh of relief as the bus finally came to a stop at their destination. She jostled a little to push out ahead and quickly made her way to the blessedly air conditioned building ahead of them. All the while of course while following the blue line. Luckily due to her expediency she had gotten on the elevator without too many people crowding it. She found this whole thing very interesting, this should a lot of fun, and with any luck she would even get better at dueling. Megan looked at the decks uncertainly, the teacher's monotone drawl not helping her at all.
Shrugging she simply grabbed one that looked interesting and said, "I'll take this Warrior's Triumph pack, that's all thanks." The teacher didn't even look at her so she simply grabbed the pack as well a duel disk and retreated to a corner. Megan eagerly opened the pack and pursued the contents, this looked kinda cool, she could see how some of the cards worked together. She set the deck down and began fiddling with the duel disk, Megan had used one before of course but she wanted to make sure she knew how everything worked on it.
Yin had slept basically the entire ride to the tower and waking up as the bus screeched to a halt she finally saw the tower. One could definitely say it did not disappoint to say the least. Slowly standing and walking leisurely off the bus and starting for the tower Yin rubbed her eyes in an attempt to wake up fully as she finally entered the tower. It was much cooler than outside, which was nice, but seeing as Yin was just wearing a nice, yet casual, chinese dress, it's not like the heat was an unbearable factor to her.
Once she had followed the blue line just as those before her Yin came across the same lame guy handing out decks and duel disks. Yin decided to ponder for a moment though because she decided the deck should represent her, and that's when it caught her eye. "I'll take that Dragon's Roar off your hands now, but no pack will be necessary at this time." This pointed out one of the other things about Yin though. She had been trying to act more normal towards people, trying to drop the superiority act, or the 'I have more power than you because of who I am' routine. She just had quite mastered it yet.
As she slid on her duel disk and then slid her deck out of the box, which she tossed over her shoulder as it had no purpose now, and began to shuffle before sliding the deck into her duel disk. She was ready for action, and she had faith that her deck was what she needed and that it would guide her. After all she had seen the one card she needed that had told her everything. Plus unlike some of the people here she actually knew wat she was doing. She was here to advance herself and prove herself, not learn the basics.
Once she had gotten to the arena Yin took a place near the back to observe. She saw some of the others ahd made their way here as well. Of course she could socialize, though where would she begin? Now that she was here it occurred to her that she hadn't really met a lot of people that didn't work for her family, or owned a big corporation, or were politically important. Where on earth did she go from here? Well there was just one more thing that the young girl from China would have to have faith would work out in the end.
Having slept through quite literally the entire bus ride, Haas was one of the last people off the bus, mostly because the driver had the decency to shake the lazy kid awake from his rather nice dream. Something about an entire open grassy field made out of spaghetti. Quickly rushing out of the bus after thanking the driver, Haas smiled as he overlooked the Duel Tower, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow. "Alright! Dueling World, here I come!" he cheered himself on with in his head as he joined the masses to get inside, listening to the instructions, then following the Blue Line down to Arena B.
Feeling energetic after his nap, Haas opted to take the stairs, making a spiraling run down them, sticking to the right side. Despite how many damn floors he had to climb, Haas was still ready to begin, maintaining a jogging pace as he entered the arena. Poking his head up above the crowd on occasion, Haas was excited more than anything. Not being able to use his own deck meant that maybe he could find new ways to think outside the box. Though he wasn't quite sure why people started laughing when some guy picked his deck. Not like he picked something absolutely garbage. Besides, Haas was a firm believer in that funny little saying that people used when they pulled the card that they wanted...something about high-fiving the sky? No, that'd be stupid. Let's Rev It Up? No...he'd have to remember it later.
Regardless, Haas approached the bored-man when it was his turn and gave each structure deck a look over before smiling broadly, holding up his choice. "Zen and Punishment it is then! Thank you very much sir, and I hope you have a nice day." he says with a pleasant tone, before turning on his heel. "Oh, and no pack please." He added, taking his duel disk and strapping it onto his arm, before taking a seat. Opening his box and fiddling with his disk, Haas readied himself for the duels. Looking over his shoulder at someone with a black ponytail, who seemed to be having some trouble. Leaning back to where his bangs were hanging free, Haas says: "Well, you slip your arm into that sleeve there...and then when you're ready to duel, there's a little trigger on the bottom that activates it.", still looking at them from an upside-down angle. Offering an outstretched hand with his duel disk already attached for a handshake, he says: "I'm Haas."
The tires grinding against the inconsistent, barren landscape before the group of kids was barely audible through all of the loud talking some of the ones did, who knew each other before they enrolled. The loud chatter didn't bother Ethel, who sat properly straight with both of her hands resting on her lap, looking out the window with an almost robotic gaze. She didn't seem to mind the heat compared to almost everyone else, even though she was sweating as much as any other. The hoodie she wore had it's... Well, hood resting comfortable on blue strands of hair belonging to the girl. A lone skyscraper came into view after quite a while of driving, many cheering for the fact there was something in sight. The bus came to a halt a few more minutes after that, everyone eager to get out. Ethel rose from her own seat, using one of the chairs in front of her for support in standing up. Most people had already poured out of the bus, some only remaining to check if they didn't leave anything behind. One particular person caught Ethel's eye, a sleeping boy. Odd how someone could sleep through that racket and heat, but he did...
The schoolgirl stopped pondering soon enough and made her way down and out of the bus herself. The driver had opened the storage for where all luggage was held and students were fumbling to get their bags and suitcases out of there. Ethel waited until the crowd cleared and took her own travelling suitcase out, a pink and yellow flower pattern painted on it. It was also equipped with wheels that wouldn't get stuck in the sand, because of Ethel's weak physique she couldn't exactly carry her luggage all the way into and up the building. She extended the handle and made her way into the building, following behind most other students. Some went with the stairs and most with the elevator which the bluenette managed to just squeeze into as well. The numbers representing the floors they passed started to count... 1... 2...
Eventually the elevator Ethel was on reached it's destination, floor eleven. Because she got in late the girl was one of the first to step out of the elevator, analyzing everyone who had arrived here a few moments before. Some students were already gathered before a teacher who was standing in front of a rack with structure decks and card packs. The cards you'd be getting were dependant on what you chose at the beginning and you weren't allowed to bring your own... Ethel spotted a spot where people left their luggage temporarily, as it'd just get in the way while dueling. The girl delicately rolled her own suitcase near the pile, pressed the handle back into the casing and walked over to the place where everyone was choosing decks. She arrived after a few had already been claimed, then looked over at the remaining ones. A Genex deck caught the girl's eye, but just as she was about to speak up another person, a boy with a loud voice, claimed it. The normally static expression of Ethel changed a little, with a slight downcast of her eyes showing disappointment at not being able to pick it. Genex was the deck she used to learn how to duel and now she wasn't going to be able to use it.
Ethel made a second scan off all the card packs and structure decks, the monotone of the teacher explaining and handing out being muted out over the chatter in the background. Another deck stood out to Ethel. "Justice Counter-Attack!". A robot stood on the cover, stark white and powerful looking. "I... Want Justice Counter-Attack..." the quiet voice rang out. Several people stopped chattering for a moment to let it sink in what she just picked, and some shooting her strange glances. The bluenette was starting to wonder if she did something wrong, but the teacher was already heading over to get it for her. "Card pack?" He asked as he picked it up off of the shelf. Ethel hadn't thought that far ahead yet. There were five possible choices, all lined up. She blurted out "Hidden Arsenal Five" as more of a reflex than an actual choice, but she wouldn't be able to take it back now. Following the teacher's instructions she got her deck, card pack and duel disk and was told to head over to the arena.
Ethel had taken a seat at the top-most row and in the corner, far away from everyone else. She was looking through the cards included in the structure deck, which all seemed to focus on getting rid of light monsters. Once she was able to get a proper glance at every card the girl started shuffling her new deck. The box which came with it she'd already thrown into a nearby trash bin and the academy licensed duel disk she was going to have to use was sitting next to her on another chair. Ethel had never used one of those before. All of the education before this point was done on a table so the device was foreign to her. She'd read about them, yes, but never actually saw one. It looked heavy. After she was done shuffling, she put the cards down next to her for a second. Ethel hadn't looked into her card pack yet, she'd be leaving that for after the placement duels. The duel disk was picked up and put on the girl's arm, her accidentally pressing a button with her thumb which caused the safety strap to wrap itself around her arm. She flinched, but didn't jump. A few blinks signaled Ethel's surprise though it disappeared as fast as it came. Slotting her new deck into the holder and the extra deck into the provided slot Ethel glanced around the room again, scanning the students she was on the bus with a few moments ago once more.
A desert and a crowded bus, with no air conditioning is not what is normally seen as hell, but to Vincent it definitely was hell being on a bus full of obnoxious people, with them talking and yelling about being generally rowdy while they were on that long tedious bus journey. All that noise on the bus was nearly enough to drive Vincent to madness but he managed to repress out crying, by reminding himself of what was to be at the end of the trail, and there it came into view. A grand skyscraper that looked as though it touched the heavens themselves was positioned quite startlingly in the middle of a desert without rhyme nor reason. Well probably a reason but Vincent couldn't remember what. Vincent probably should of looked around the bus more but he was to busy trying to keep away from people so he could have his peace and comfort.
The bus had stopped in front of the Duel Tower and Vincent stood up stretching his aching legs, it hurt a little to stand but feeling slow returned. He went to leave his seat to get off the bus but was blocked by the people rushing to be first. "Damn it." Vincent murmured under his breath, receiving a odd look from a stranger as they went to get off the bus. After a majority of the people had gotten of off the bus and the chances of being stuck in the middle of a herd of people had decreased tremendously. Vincent walked off the bus. He was very glad to actually be in open space again, and breathing fresh, although dust filled air, which was much better then the musty air of the bus.
People where already grabbing their luggage from the compartment in the bus and running off towards the Duel tower with smiles on their face's or was it just the rush to get to the air conditioning? Either way Vincent was one of the last ones getting his luggage from the bus, he dragged out his large campers backpack and hauled it onto his shoulders even though it was a heavy burden on his them, it was easier to move around then a suitcase. Vincent began his Walk up to the front door of the Duel Tower, his mind racing with possibility of what structure deck to take, if they all weren't taken already. Vincent shook off that last thought, their would probably be more then enough variety right? Yea they most probably would be since it was a big school it could afford variety. Even so, it did make Vincent quicken his pace.
Upon walking inside of the Duel Tower, he was greeted by one of the staff members who told him the directions of where to go "Just follow the blue line on the wall to Arena B. You will pick up a duel disk and a deck there, and then we will commence your placement duels." The Staff member had said, which kinda annoyed Vincent a little because that meant even more walking with his heavy backpack. Vincent quickly rushed for the stairs, as it seemed the elevator was still ascending at the time.
Now going up 10 flights of stairs is no easy task for someone who's only relatively fit, now combine that with the added burden of carrying a heavy rucksack and the end result is a worn out Vincent whom had after a few minutes running up those flights of stairs like his life depended on it, was panting heavily as he approached the card table, still carrying his backpack.
Vincent's eyes glanced across the rack behind the teacher running the table, looking at all the packs on offer, his eyes momentarily settled on a Spell book Structure deck, but he decided to not go for it, since someone already chirped up behind him for that Structure deck, Vincent's eyes then caught a Ghostrick deck of some kind, but he shrugged that off because his eyes had caught a black and white box in the corner, its name was slightly obscured but Vincent could just about make it out. "I would like Dragons Collide please" Vincent said loudly to the teacher who was handing the structure decks. The teacher looked at him to see whom had said it, before turning around to grab the box, and motioning him to come forward to grab the box, "Card pack?" The teacher asked in a almost monotone voice. Vincent just glanced at the other the card packs and just said one that sounded cool to him. "I'll take Judgement of Light, if that's not to much to ask." Vincent responded, the teacher turned around and grabbed the card pack as well as a academy duel disk. Both of which Vincent took gratefully before looking around for a place to sit down.
It took a few moments to spot a place to rest and a little while to get there but in the end Vincent was sat down with his Structure deck, his card pack, and his Academy given duel disk. and his heavy backpack was off his shoulders giving them some well deserved rest, sliding open Dragons Collide, Vincent placed the card to the side as he had a ganders through the cards he had chosen. His deck seemed to be based around using Light and Deck cards in tandem with each other, it seemed like a fun and interest deck to play. Vincent threw away the box as it wasn't needed anymore, before setting on putting on his duel disk ready for the placement duels. It was a little lighter then it looked but only by a little. Vincent slotted his cards into place in the deck slot, and observed the crowds waiting for the time when the placement duels began.
Rattle, rumble, bump-bump. The bus rolled on and on. During the bus ride, Clementine was, well, insufferable. She accounted for at least 60% of the noise in the bus with her constant jokes and conversations to everyone near her. The more noise the bus made, the more noise Clementine made to be heard. It was like a torture no man should have to endure.
The sweltering heat was beginning to get to her. Towards the end of the trip, her loud voice slowly managed to quiet. This was the second trial, according to Clementine's imagination.
Finally, the bus stopped. Clementine looked out the window and saw the large tower. It was much bigger than anything back home. It was quite amazing. Clementine, being quite close to the front, ended up getting off the bus near last. From there, the bus driver opened up a large compartment and began to pull out bags for the students. Everyone got their bags, with Clementine being almost last (again).
Her bag was unnaturally small. It was only a small handbag. Some students had brought giant suitcases, but Clementine brought barely anything along with her. With her bag, she followed another man who seemed to also be near last. He seemed to know what he was doing.
She followed him to the large elevator which carried the students up and continued to follow him. The new students were all picking out what decks to use, and a pack (if they chose that they wanted it). Clementine, being the intrepid listener she was, didn't know what was even going on. She panicked and did nothing. She did nothing for a rather long time and ended up being the last person to choose their deck. There were only two decks left. One appeared to be a super edgy deck, the only light coming from it was the holographic lines on it, and the other one was had a god-damn Gellenduo on it. Being the intrepid and intelligent duelist that she was, Clementine chose the deck with the sweet-ass Gellenduo on it.
"That one!" Clementine said, her finger pointing to it. The teacher sighed, and handed the one with Gellenduo on it to Clementine. "And any pack?" He said, to which Clementine replied "I have something I want, so Megabox Megatin Megathing 2014!". The man sighed once again, and handed her the pack along with a dueling disk. Clementine was excited. She may get it. She ran off to a secluded corner in the room to open her pack, her hands trembling with excitement.
A look of defeat crossed her face as she didn't get it. She needed it. It was the greatest card in the game. She sighed as she put the cards from the booster pack into her collection. "I guess I'll just use straight vanilla." She said while putting the deck she had gotten into her dueling disk.
Steven sat alone, shuffling through the deck of cards, reading, memorizing, and thinking up combos with every card. Soon, all of the students from the bus had arrived, taking their decks and their seats. Some of the students who had brought luggage had set it in the far corner of the Arena, out of the way, but still a bit annyoing. 'Why didn't they just have it delivered?' Steven though to himself, immediately realizing that most other people didn't have the money to have their luggage privately delivered through a desert.
Suddenly, the intercom turned on, and a set of 4 screens, which hung from the ceiling, 1 visable from each direction, lit up with the words "PLACEMENT DUELS" in bold letters. "Hello students, I am the Headmaster of the school, you may call me Headmaster Preccon. Today, you will have to duel with all of your ability, in order to place in a dorm you are truly worthy of. Though, don't worry about winning or losing, focus on how well you play. Play well, do well, place well. That is the focus of today. Anyway, here are the placement duels, in order of time." As the listed duels came up, pictures of the duelists appeared beside their names.
Steven Ryte [ME!] VS. @Ostarion's character (if they make one, otherwise, NPC) In Arena B1
---Random duels between students you don't care about---
A BUNCH OF DUELS THAT DON'T MATTER TO THE RP!
Steven looked at the duels listed. He was in the third set of duels. Great. He didn't really pay attention to his opponent's name or face. He didn't care. The Headmaster's voice picked back up, after the last duel scrolled off the screen, returning to the boring "PLACEMENT DUELS" screen. "The duels will begin in 10 minutes. Duelists for the first round, you may take your places, greet your opponent's and whatnot. Good Luck students, let the heart of the cards be with you" The old headmaster's voice was no longer audible, and the chatter of students picked up.
Steven looked at the Arena, specifically at arena B1. From where he exited the elevator, he was sitting on the right side of the room, facing the left. He was sort of in the middle of the stands, just about at the line between B1 and B2. B1 was closer to the elevator, and was towards the left of steven's vision, while B2 was on the right of it. The way the arenas were set up, both duelists would be visible from the side, allowing for a more complete view of the field than looking at it from behind one of the duelists could allow for. In the middle of B1, a large "B1" was painted it white on the ground, to help distinguish the arenas. B2 had the same treatment, but with a large "B2" instead, of course.
Steven sat back, and waited for the duels to begin.
Megan eagerly looked up from her cards at the sound of someone talking over speakers to see several TVs with the large bold words, "Placement Duels". Curious to see this she watched screens display the duels- and gave a sigh of relief. Perfect, she wasn't starting things off and she didn't have to end things with a bang either. Megan looked at the screen again, Arena B1 against someone named Haas. Well that sounded alright, Megan figured she'd head to B1 just to be prepared and to watch the duel that came before her. That and she really needed to look at her deck some more, the amount of cards was slightly overwhelming for her.
Still viewing through her cards Megan slowly began walking towards B1, maybe she could get some ideas when she watched the duel, or better yet someone would sit next to her that could help her out. Though her steps were a little shaky and she wasn't paying enough attention around her to take note of any other duelists, honestly just the thought of dueling with so many spectators, what if she did terrible? What if she misplayed something obvious? Even worse the voice had said play well, which meant that even if she won she still might not do well. All these thoughts raced through Megan's head as she found a seat in arena B1, in fact she was even beginning to feel a little queasy, so many people watching, waiting for her to fail...
Ethel waited patiently for the announcement to come, which wasn't exactly hard to do since it came only a minute or three after she'd finished slotting her deck into the provided duel disk. The bulky thing was rather heavy on her arm, but she seemed to be able to lift it without much trouble. The bluenette looked at the screens hanging from the ceiling, which lit up to show the "Placement Duels" screen. Almost immediately after the principal finished speaking pictures of people flashed across the screen, showing who was up against who. Ethel noticed her own in the second round. She'd lowered her hood in the picture, showing her light blue hair in full instead of half-covered. The girl was up against a rather feminine looking boy, who seemed to be a bit taller judging from the picture. Curiosity got the best of Ethel as her eyes darted across the screen to see who else went up against who.
Ethel's eye caught a glimpse of the sleeping boy on the bus earlier... Did he make it after all? She looked around the room, trying to find the boy. They were helping another guy, attaching their duel disk much like how Ethel had accidentally discovered it herself. How nice of that person. Wasn't the boy he'd been helping supposed to go up and duel someone else though? Ethel curved her lips softly upwards in content, then focused back towards the arenas. On A field two girls had already taken their place and raised their duel disks, about to start dueling. Ethel looked with anticipation at the battle that was about to happen. She'd never seen a live duel before, so she was actually a little excited at the thought which was mirrored in her eyes opening slightly, being more full than their usual half-open mechanical gaze.
Yin had listened to the announcement, the same as the rest of the students had. It was a simple pleasantry on the headmasters part of course, but a good one to say the least. As the screen presented the first two duelists after the headmaster finished speaking Yin couldn't help but crack a smile. She had been chosen to go first. A fitting place for one such as herself.
Yin had slowly stood up and began walking down to the arena. Her opponent's picture had been less than intimidating. The girl looked dull, and quite frankly barely interesting. In other words, she looked as if she would have been one of Yin's parents lesser paid servants who begged for a job. Though Yin did have to admit that the girl had nice hair, but that was about it from the photo.
Finally after that bit of walking and thinking though, Yin had made it to the field a smile on her face from the excitement for this match, for this day, and for the future soon to come.
Michelle listened to the announcement and learned that she would be one of the first Duelists for this placement duel. As the pictures for the Duelists came up, Michelle focused on the one that would be her opponent. Quite honestly, Michelle didn't particularly care what her opponent looked like. All she wanted to know was how much of a challenge she would pose.
Making sure her Duel Disk was firmly in place, Michelle made her way to her position on the arena, examining her opponent as she went. If Michelle was reading her opponent's expression correctly, although she looked friendly, it seemed as though she didn't have that high of an opinion of her. In that case, Michelle wouldn't waste too much time on this Duel.
"Hey there. It's a pleasure to meet you, my name is Yin Yuen. Let's have some fun with this, okay?" Yin said still smiling and offering her hand out for a shake. If there had been anything she'd picked up on from her parents it was definitely how to behave, and especially when it came to first impressions.
"Likewise," Michelle said, returning the handshake, but not the smile. Once that was done, Michelle made her way to her end of the arena, where she awaited the announcement to begin.
Yin kept giving a friendly smile as she backed up without turning around lifting her arm up as her Duel Disk activated as she waited patiently for the Duel's start as well as looking around at the audience to try and find some faces that might become familiar over time to her.
Soon the announcement was given, and Michelle activated her Duel Disk, the blade quickly forming on her device. Michelle then drew 5 cards at once from her deck, fanned them out with one hand, then placed the cards in her other hand, all in one fluid motion.
"I activate the Spell card: 'Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen'!" Michelle began, a giant hall rising out of the ground behind her. "If I control no monsters, I can Special Summon a Fairy-type monster from my hand. I Summon 'Harvest Angel of Wisdom'!" A humanoid being clad in orange armor and holding a horn in its left hand suddenly appeared on the field.
Harvest Angel of Wisdom - Level 4, ATK 1800
"I then Set one monster, and place a card face-down. Turn End," Michelle ended.
Yin giggled softly as she scanned the five cards she'd drawn all at once then swiftly drew her next card. Looking at it out of the corner of her eye Yin and then placed it in her hand as she grabbed another card. "First off I'll place one card face down, and then I'll set one monster card. Back to you!" Yin played her cards so elegantly, and then she put her hand out and pointed at Michelle with two fingers to joke around.
Ignoring Yin, Michelle drew her next card and examined it. Nothing that would really help her right now, but perhaps in the near future it might. "I activate a Spell card: 'Calling of the Sky'." Michelle declared. "This card allows me to add 1 "Parshath" or "Nova Summoner" card from my Deck to my hand, and I choose 'Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin'." The card ejected itself from Michelle's deck, which she grabbed and revealed for a second before continuing, "My face-down 'Gellenduo' can be treated as 2 Tributes for a LIGHT Fairy-type monster, so I tribute it to Summon my 'Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin'." The face-down monster was revealed to be a pair of small creatures, one green and one pink, both disappearing to be replaced with an angel-like being that radiated a heavenly aura.
Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin - Level 7, ATK 2300
"Battle Phase! 'Neo-Parshath', attack her face-down monster!" The angel complied, rising up into the air, then shot itself downward towards the face-down monster, its blade pointed directly at its target.
Yin smirked as her face-down monster was destroyed, and then revealed itself to be 'Masked Dragon' for a short couple of seconds before disappearing. "You activate my 'Masked Dragon's' ability by destroying it and sending it to the Grave. I get to Special Summon any Dragon with 1500 ATK or less from my Deck, and I'll choose my 'Twin-Headed Behemoth' in Defense mode."
Twin-Headed Behemoth - Level 3, DEF 1200
"Be that as it may, when 'Neo-Parshath' attacks a Defense mode monster, it can deal piercing battle damage," Michelle explained.
Yin - 4000 LP --> 2800 LP
"On top of that, when 'Neo-Parshath' deals battle damage, I can draw 1 card from my Deck," Michelle continued, drawing another card. "Moving on. 'Harvest Angel of Wisdom', attack 'Twin-Headed Behemoth'," Michelle commanded, the orange-clad angel blowing into its horn and sending powerful sound waves directly at the two headed dragon.
Yin keep smirking even as her 'Twin-Headed Behemoth' shattered into hundreds of pieces of holographic glass.
Michelle, unfazed by Yin's lack of dismay or any similar emotion, ended, "I place one card face-down and end my turn."
Yin giggled as 'Twin-Headed Behemoth' returned during the end phase. "If you'd please give a warm welcome to 'Behemoth' once more, we'll continue this show. And to do so I'll first draw." Drawing her card dramatically and gracefully Yin quickly placed the card in her hand and grabbed a different card to play. "First off I'll play the Spell card 'Mind Control' to take that wonderful 'Harvest Angel of Wisdom' you got there."
Michelle glared at Yin as 'Harvest Angel of Wisdom' was taken. It was unfortunate that she didn't have anything to deal with that, but it was only natural that everything wouldn't go her way. All she could do.for now was wait for whatever that was coming to appear and get resolve it.
"Next, now that you've so graciously donated your monster to my cause, I think I'll play this fancy little card known as 'Creature Swap'. This means I pick a monster from my field to give to you, and you choose one on your side to give to me. Oh and don't worry I'll be giving you back your monster so you can give me the better one, seeing as you have no choice in the matter." Yin giggled pleasantly at the fun little combo wondering what was going through Michelle's mind. The girl was so depressingly on task. No fun what so ever, but she had talent, and that was one thing that Yin could respect.
Michelle's glare only hardened as the two monsters swapped places. To think that such a combo could have been made.
Michelle's face made Yin giggle slightly more. "Oh wait, there's more grumpy gills! Next I'll sacrifice my 'Behemoth' so I can Summon another fun card in my hand known as 'Armed Dragon LV5'!" As Yin played the card she lifted her arm, and thus hand, into the air dramatically as the large metal and spiked dragon appeared in a dramatic roar.
"Now then, let the show begin first by attacking your Angel with your old monster who so graciously switched to my side."
"I activate a Trap card: 'Negate Attack'!" Michelle countered, the card rising up and creating a vortex that absorbed the attack. "It negates the attack and ends the Battle Phase."
Yin giggled once more. "Not bad Michelle. I'm glad you aren't going to just roll over like a good little puppy, that would be boring. In that case, I'll set one card face down and end my turn."
Michelle drew her next card while saying the customary, "Draw." Upon examining it, Michelle determined the best course of action for it. "I play the Field Spell: 'Sanctuary in the Sky'," Michelle said, the area around them transforming into a floor of cloud and a clear blue sky above, with a white temple behind Michelle. "Now I play 'Calling of the Sky', allowing me to add the Tuner monster: 'Squire Parshath' from my Deck to my hand, which I then Summon," Michelle continued, adding the ejected card to her hand before placing it on the field.
Squire Parshath - Level 1, ATK 100
"I activate 'Squire Parshath's' effect! I can target any LIGHT Fairy-type monster on my side of the field besides itself and change the targeted monster's Level to anywhere between 1 and 7," Michelle explained. "I choose my 'Harvest Angel of Wisdom' and change its Level to 7."
Harvest Angel of Wisdom - Level 4 --> Level 7
"Now I Tune my Level 7 'Harvest Angel of Wisdom' with my Level 1 'Squire Parshath'!" Michelle declared, the two monster's transforming into 7 stars and 1 green ring, respectively. "Appear, 'Avenging Knight Parshath'!" Michelle said, a brilliantly shining angel appearing on the field, its light dwarfing even 'Neo-Parshath's' aura.
Avenging Knight Parshath - Level 8, ATK 2600
As the angel slowly descended, Michelle declared, "I activate 'Avenging Knight Parshath's' effect! Once per turn, I can change the Battle position of one of your monster's, and I choose your 'Armed Dragon'. Lower your head!" 'Avenging Knight Parshath' emitted a strong, bright white aura, and the dragon lowered itself.
Armed Draon LV5 - ATK 2400 --> DEF 1700
Standing firm and confident Yin stood unwavering. One might just pass it off as just pure excitement for the duel, or perhaps one might think more of her confidence?
"Battle Phase! 'Avenging Knight Parshath', attack 'Armed Dragon LV5'!" Michelle commanded, the angel raising its blade to strike down the cowering dragon.
Yin smiled as she put her hand out as her Trap activated. "I think my lovely 'Interdimensional Matter Transporter' would disagree seeing as how it takes my dragon out of play until the End Phase, meaning your attack won't hit him," Yin said confidently as her dragon started to phase out.
Michelle, unfazed by the attack missing, continued, "In that case, strike down 'Neo-Parshath'!" 'Avenging Knight Parshath' then swung its blade to the side in an attempt to destroy 'Neo-Parshath'.
Yin watched without a worry in the world as the monster she'd stolen from Michelle was destroyed, and thanks to Michelle's own field spell, Yin would take no damage.
"Unfortunately, because of 'Sanctuary in the Sky's' effect, you take no damage, but that's only a slight inconvenience. Turn end," Michelle said.
Yin drew her next card with resolve and giggled yet again once she drew it. "Today isn't your lucky day. I think I'll play a card you've already been introduced to start off this turn, 'Creature Swap'! And since my 'Armed Dragon' returned at the end of your turn, and since you only have one card to offer, I think you know what happens next." The smirk on Yin's face was unquestionably mockery.
"That lousy trick won't work twice," Michelle said. "Reveal, Trap card: 'Divine Punishment'!" A bolt of red lightning suddenly emerged from the cloud underneath the Spell card, completely incinerating it. "If you activate a Spell, Trap, or Monster effect while 'Sanctuary in the Sky' is out, it is negated and destroyed."
Yin frowned. "Well you're no fun...I suppose thise means I'll have to switch my Dragon back into attack position, and then I'll play Swords of Revealing Light from my hand." Yin then muttered under her breath. "As distasteful as it is..." Then speaking up once more. "Your move." Clearly irritated that she had to do that.
"Draw," Michelle said as she drew her next card. It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't the best. "Lucky for you, I didn't get anything useful for now. Turn end." Michelle didn't like doing nothing, but until 'Swords of Revealing Light' wore off, she couldn't do much.
"Such a pity." Yin responded in a clearly less than sympathetic voice."I'll draw," Yin paused for the moment to draw and then frowned. "I too shall end my turn though..." The words were so sour in her mouth it saddened her.
Michelle drew her next card. Again, nothing all that useful, but perhaps it may prove to be useful eventually. "Not much here. Turn end," Michelle stated.
Silently drawing her card Yin held her breath slightly. She too seemed to be having the same problem as Michelle. "For now I'll place one card face down. Next I'll summon my 'Armed Dragon LV3' to the field in attack mode. That's it for me..."
Michelle drew her next card, and found it to be rather nice. It wouldn't help remove the 'Swords', unfortunately, but it had its uses. "I Summon 'Freya, Spirit of Victory' in Attack Position," Michelle said, the silver-haired cheerleader rising out of the ground with a leap and landing perfectly on her feet.
Freya, Spirit of Victory - Level 1, ATK 100
"'Freya's' effect allows all Fairy-type monsters on my side of the field to increase their ATK and DEF by 400," Michelle explained.
Avenging Knight Parshath - ATK 2600 --> ATK 3000
Freya, Spirit of Victory - ATK 100 --> ATK 500
"Now I play one card face-down and end my turn. You better have gotten something ready by now, because I sure have," Michelle said confidently as the 'Swords' faded away.
Yin glared at Michelle. "Careful what you wish for." Yin drew her card. "First off, during my Standby Phase, my LV3's effect activates, but I'm going to chain a one of my face-downs to that first." As she spoke one of her face-downs rose to reveal 'Curse of Anubis'. "This puts all effect monsters in face-up defense position, and to top it all off they all have zero defense for the turn."
"I told you I was prepared," Michelle said. "I activate 'Dark Bribe'. This negates the activation and effect of a Spell or Trap card and destroys it, but you get to draw a new card."
Yin drew her next card as the 'LV3' vanished, only to be replaced with a second 'LV5'. Looking at her new card, Yin couldn't help but crack a small smile. "Well it looks like I have to thank you now...First of all I'm going to sacrifice both of my Armed Dragons to Summon my 'Red-Eyes Black Dragon'!" The mighty Black Dragon rose up roaring, loud and proud.
"Before you go and think that I would go and disappoint you by summoning just this, I promise I won't. Next I'll tribute my 'Red-Eyes Black Dragon' so I can summon my 'Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon'!" Yin's arm rose up dramatically once more as the mighty Darkness Dragon replaced the original Red-Eyes roaring even more triumphently, enough so that the entire tower shook as it's ability kicked in.
Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon - ATK 2400 --> 4200 ATK
Michelle was certainly not expecting something like this to appear, and couldn't help but show an expression of fear for a moment before attempting to calm down and observe the facts. Michelle could certainly withstand the attack, especially with 'Sanctuary in the Sky' still in play. Unfortunately, she'd lose 'Avenging Knight Parshath'. All Michelle could do for now was try to weather this out.
Yin's arm fell in front of her pointing at the 'Avenging Knight'. "Now, 'Darkness Dragon', let her cower in fear of your awesome power!" The large gemmed black dracon built up a ball of flaming energy in its mouth before launching the stored power at the 'Avenging Knight Parshath'.
Michelle shielded herself from the blast with her arm as 'Avenging Knight Parshath' was destroyed. "Because of 'Sanctuary in the Sky', I take zero damage," Michelle said after the attack ended.
"That's fine, I suppose I'll end my turn and see what you can pull out of your hat then." Yin giggled with excitement once more. At this point she really didn't care who won. They had both done so well that there was no doubt in her mind that they would both be placed well in the academy. Not to mention they had set the bar for the other Freshmen to get over.
Drawing her next card, Michelle began to plan out her next move. As she did, Michelle realised something: this was challenging. It was exactly what she had been looking for. Someone who could force her into a corner for her to break free from. Allowing herself a small smile before returning her game face, Michelle then said, "I place one card face-down, then switch 'Freya' to Defense Position and end my turn."
Yin raised an eyebrow in curiousity as she drew her card. She wondered what could Michelle possibly be thinking. Of course there was no way to fully tell, but given the situation there were only a few true options to take. Yin still hadn't used her first face-down. Was that affecting how Michelle was playing? What did she think it might be? On top of that, what should Yin do about this whole situation? Well, that part was actually the obvious one. "First I'll play a Spell known as 'Stamping Destruction'. This will allow me to destroy your 'Sanctuary in the Sky', and to top it off, you lose 500 Life Points!"
Michelle was unfazed as the field broke down, the temple collapsing and the clouds dispersing, eventually returning the area around them to the Duel Arena.
"Hmmmm. Nope. The picture isn't quite right just yet." Yin spun around once with excitement and more dramatics stopping when she was again facing her opponent and was end with a hand pointing towards Michelle's 'Freya'. "Now, 'Darkness Dragon'. Destroy 'Freya'!" Once more, the mighty dragon built up its flame, and once more fired the blast towards Michelle's monster, completely destroying it. "And that will take us back to you." Yin said cheerfully giving Michelle a playful wink
Michelle drew her next card and examined it. Perhaps it would help for now. "Using the effect of 'Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen', I Special Summon 'Bountiful Artemis' in Defense Position!" Michelle declared, the white angel folding its wings in front of itself like a shield.
"First I draw once more." Yin drew her card casually and then sighed. "It's not the strongest monster, but it'll do for now. First I'll Summon my Element Dragon to the field!" The smaller, more colored dragon appeared screeching a bit.
Element Dragon - ATK - 1500
"Next my Red-Eyes Darkness will have to send that pesky little defense of yours to the grave!" Yin once more pointed dramatically at Michelle's monster, and once more her Dragon sent a destructive blast towards the Michelle's creature.
"Trap card: 'Negate Attack'!" Michelle countered, the vortex being formed once more. "This negates the attack and ends the Battle Phase. Plus, when a Counter Trap card is activated, 'Bountiful Artemis' lets me draw a card when that Counter Trap resolves." Michelle explained
Yin raised a finger and let it swing from side to side. "I hate to break it to you, but you're still going to lose that lovely creature of yours."
"'Trap Jammer' is also a Counter Trap, though, so I can still draw 1 card," Michelle said, drawing a new card from her Deck while the vortex suddenly shattered.
"Maybe so, but that lovely creature of yours is now gone." Yin smirked as the creature was shattered. "And now 'Element Dragon' take a bite out of her Life Points!" The small dragon sent a wave of fire towards Michelle.
Michelle shielded herself with her arm as the flames washed over her, depleting her Life Points.
Michelle - LP 3500 --> LP 2000
"And now back to you!" Yin spoke with such enthusiasm.
Michelle drew her next card, then examined it with the rest of her hand. So far, it wasn't looking all that well, but perhaps there was something that could be done. "I use 'Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen' to Special Summon 'Hecatrice' in Defense Position!" Michelle declared, the golden statue appearing on the field.
Hecatrice - Level 4, DEF 1100
"Next I Set one monster, and end my turn," Michelle ended. With luck, she might even be able to turn this around.
Yin once more drew her card so casually it might've been a bit insulting. After doing so she couldn't help but chuckle a little. "This just isn't your day Michelle. First of all, I'll play the Spell card known as 'Stamping Destruction'. If you recall I get to choose on spell or trap on your field as long as I have a Dragon-type monster, plus you lose 500 life points, and I think I'll go with 'Valhalla'!"
Michelle was unfazed as the hall behind her was destroyed, getting torn apart by the dragons. Michelle wasn't too bothered by it; she didn't have much use left for it, anyway.
Michelle - LP 2000 --> LP 1500
"Now let's see here. I think we'll have my 'Red-Eyes Darkness' destroy your face-down monster!"
As the fireball struck the face-down card, a brief image of an orange wreath appeared before being blown away by the force of the attack. "That was my 'Nova Summoner', and you triggered its effect. When it's destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon a LIGHT Fairy-type monster from my deck with 1500 or less ATK. I Summon another 'Nova Summoner' in Defense Position!" Michelle explained, a second orange wreath taking the place of the first.
Nova Summoner - Level 4, DEF 800
"Next I'll use my 'Element Dragon' to destroy your 'Hecatrice'." Once more the smaller dragon emitted flames, this time towards the 'Hecatrice' causing it to shatter. "And that should about round up my turn."
Michelle paused for a second before drawing her next card. If she didn't pull something out now, she wouldn't survive the next turn. Drawing her next card, she took a moment to examine it. Unfortunately, it was not a card to make a comeback with. "I Set one monster in Defense Position, and end my turn," Michelle said.
Yin started by drawing her card. "So Michelle. It's been fun, but I'm afraid that we'll have to wrap this up soon. First I'll have my 'Element Dragon' attack your 'Nova Summoner'!" The wave of flames once more shot forth to incinerate the 'Nova Summoner'.
The golden wreath was destroyed once more, and an angelic man with 4 golden wings took its place. "I Special Summon 'Shining Angel' in Defense Position," Michelle said.
Shining Angel - Level 4, DEF 800
"Pfft," Yin made the short noise. "Fine, if you want stall more, I'll just set this last card in my hand face-down and end my turn..." The last card in her hand appeared on the field.
Drawing her next card, Michelle couldn't help but think about her past moves. She was getting sloppy, and that wasn't like her. Was the stress clouding her judgement? She closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself down. Michelle opened her eyes, a firm resolve appearing in them once more, then looked at her next card. She couldn't believe her luck.
"I Summon 'Squire Parshath' in Attack Position!" Michelle declared confidently, the small armored man with long blonde hair appearing on the field.
Squire Parshath - Level 1, ATK 100
"By using 'Squire Parshath's' effect, I change the Level of my 'Shining Angel' to 7," Michelle said.
Shining Angel - Level 4 --> Level 7
"Now I Tune my Level 7 'Shining Angel' with my Level 1 'Squire Parshath'!" Michelle declared, the two monsters transforming into 7 stars and 1 green ring, respectively. "Rise up, 'Soaring Knight Parshath'!" The angel looked smaller than 'Avenging Knight', but still glowed with a brilliant white aura.
Soaring Knight Parshath - Level 8, ATK 2300
"Battle Phase! 'Soaring Knight Parshath', attack her 'Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon'!" Michelle commanded, the angel shooting upward into the air to swoop back down towards the dragon. "Once per turn, when 'Soaring Knight Parshath' attacks an opponent's monster, I can switch the ATK values between the two attacking monsters until the end of the turn!" 'Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon' glowed with a white aura for a second before it faded away.
Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon - ATK 4200 --> ATK 2300
Soaring Knight Parshath - ATK 2300 --> ATK 4200
Yin had made a motion almost activating her Trap card, but then it occurred to her how this whole thing was going and just smiled and lowered her arm and watched as her mighty dragon was destroyed.
Yin - LP 2800 --> LP 900
After the attack ended, Michelle said, "When 'Soaring Knight Parshath' deals battle damage to my opponent, I can draw one card." After drawing her next card, Michelle simply said, "Turn End."
Yin smiled contently drawing her last card looking at it and then laughed a bit before placing the card back on top of her deck along with her palm resting on the deck. "Well it looks like I have to give this one to you Michelle. You were an excellent opponent. I surrender." While people in Japan had changed how they surrendered Yin and the people of China had stuck to the traditional method, and by doing so Yin was showing Michelle respect.
Michelle showed a slight expression of surprise, then sighed. "Well, that was certainly a challenging Duel," Michelle said, smiling. As the monsters faded out of existence, Michelle walked over to Yin and extended a hand for a handshake. "I hope we have more challenges like that in the future," Michelle said.
"Definitely!" Yin laughed slightly. "Who knows, maybe we'll get a chance to do this again sometime?" Yin pondered cheerfully before raising Michelle's hand, declaring her the victor.
Michelle wins after a long and hard-fought battle.
Vincent had only been seated for a few minutes checking through all of the cards he had in his deck multiple times before the announcement for who would be dueling who, it was announced by the headmaster of the school, it seemed he would be fighting a girl of some kind. From his experiences looks can be very deceiving but the main question was what kind of deck would she be packing. "Better not be a Satellarknight deck" he thought while looking watching the first two females enter the B1 arena for their placement duels, you could tell that both of them wanted to win with how they where using their decks to the best extent they could muster. Even if they had just received them. If Vincent was to say what he liked most about what he had seen, it was the fact that the monsters where projected in front of his eyes, it looked so realistic but match ended with the one with the fairy deck being triumphant.
Vincent stood up walking his way down to arena B2 in preparation for his match, his dual disk and deck already on his wrist. he wanted to the duel to start and be over with quickly but that doesn't mean it would be devoid of fun. He could see it now, light and dark in near perfect balance. Oh boy was he getting pumped for his match against the light blue haired girl and get the first use out of this Chaos deck. He really couldn't wait.
Hayato thanked the young man called Haas and introduced himself, but when he wanted to ask more about the duel disk he was interruped by the announcement. "Ah... it seems like I'm up... Wish me luck. Haas was it? We'll meet again." He walked off, equipped with his deck and duel disk... Which he ended up wearing upside down by accident
Upon arriving at the location where his duels would take place he noticed he arrived first, during the wait Hayato decided to open his pack revealing an Xyz card and a few cards that caught his attention while silently getting excited over some of them. After a couple more minutes his opponent arrived which he assumed to be Clementine. "You're a bit late. its a bit rude to leave your oppoent hanging don't you think? So are you ready?"
"Hm?" Clementine replied in an uncaring tone. Earlier, she had put on her dueling disk and had been fiddling around with it, trying to get it around a comfortable position. She had also got slightly lost from not listening, but that was beside the point. "It ain't rude when you're getting ready," she said, "and I'm pretty ready."
Clementine sighed as she began to investigate her opponent. Something seemed wrong. It was quite strange. "Your disk is upside-down." She said.
Hayato looked at his opponent for a second time and realised his little mistake. "C-crap h-hold on! I never used one of the these before, so don't blame me!" He said, completely losing his cool as he quickly fixed his disk's position. "Like that? So, err... now what?" He asked after completely forgetting what Haas had told him.
Clementine sighed once more. "You're supposed to click the trigger thing at the bottom to activate it." She said. In all honesty, Clementine wasn't completely sure either. She just sort of assumed that the trigger started it. "Ah. Right. My name is Clementine." She said to the mistake-making man, her voice a little uncaring.
Hayato nodded at the female in front of him and replied with his own introduction "The name's Hayato." He said as his voice started to slightly sound more feminine at the end of introduction. He started to 'scratch' his neck and then pressed the trigger to avoid him being questioned about his voice "Let's just start the duel. Ladies first."
"Okay gir-" Clementine said before her voice was cut off by a loud announcement that signaled that the duelists should start. Her free hand crossed underneath her Duel Disk and pressed the trigger. Clementine drew 5 cards as the duel officially began.
With 5 cards in hand, Clementine searched through her hand for something she could use. "Hmm," she said, "I will set this monster and set these two spell/trap card-things!" She said as she placed 3 of her cards in her hand onto the field.
Hayato stared his cards for a few moments deciding on his first move. "I summon future samurai in Attack Position!" Hayato placed his card on the duel disk, and shortly after he saw a complete replica of the card as if it was a real person.
"Got any traps for that one?" He taunted at his opponent.
"... No." Clementine said with a disappointed tone.
Hayato nodded "Alright, then my Future Samurai attacks your facedown monster!" He said as he watched his samurai attempt to attack said facedown card. He was slightly intrigued by what was happening.
The set monster on the field was revealed to be Wattkid.
Wattkid, Level 3 Normal Monster, 1000 ATK / 500 DEF
Future Samurai lept at the Wattkid, cutting it down as Wattkid exploded into small particles. Future Samurai lept back to their regular position as the Battle Phase ended.
"Before I end my turn, I activate Supply Squad." He said as he put the card from his hand onto his duel disk.
Clementine's face lit up as soon as she drew her next card. She quickly grabbed it from her hand and placed it onto the field. "I Normal Summon Denko Sekka!" She said with a smile on her face.
On the field, a samurai woman appeared. "Now that it's Battle Phase, Denko Sekka attacks Future Samurai!" She said enthusiastically. Denko Sekka ran towards Future Samurai. Within a flash, the two samurai fought each other with their blades. Rather quickly, Denko Sekka overpowered the Future Samurai, stabbing her blade through the chest of Future Samurai. Future Samurai dissapated into small particles, just like Wattkid had.
Hayato: 4000 LP > 3900 LP
Hayato had drawn another card because of Supply Squad.
Hayato looks at the cards he had drawn "I've got no other choice huh... I put a monster facedown and end my turn" Hayato said as he sets down a card facedown on the duel disk.
"Hmm." Clementine said as she drew her new card. She wasn't as enthusiastic as before. "I guess I will just set this spell/trap card, and end my turn. Right after I attack."
Clementine then attacked the set card with Denko Sekka. The set card turned out to be Legendary Six Samurai Kageki. "Oh." Clementine said, slightly dissapointed in herself.
Clementine looked at her current hand and the card she had drawn. "Hm." She said, silently thinking that 'Hm' was the only word in her vocabulary. "I will play Hammer Shot to destroy Legendary Six Samurai Kagokekerierkeik-" She said as she cut off her own speech because she didn't know how to pronounce Kageki.
On the field, a spell card was played and appeared in her S/T zone. A hologram of a giant hammer fell onto Legendary Six Samurai Kageki. Once the hammer raised, nothing was left underneath.
Hayato drew another card because of Supply Squad.
"Now, I will attack directly with Denko Sekka!" She said. Denko Sekka leapt towards Hayato, and her blade swung directly at him. It would have chopped him into two Halfyatos, if it weren't a hologram.
"GEEZ, THAT SCARED ME!" He yelled after he recovered from a mighty blow and then looked at his drawn cards, "I suppose will just set these cards face down," Hayato simply put 3 S/T cards facedown and one monster facedown on the field "and that's the end of my turn."
"Uh." Clementine said, her vocabulary changing slightly. "I guess I will do absolutely nothing this turn. Oh! Except for summoning this monster!" She said, Normal Summoning Guardian of the Throne Room. The large golden tank with a slightly human appearance appeared on the field.
Guardian of the Throne Room, Level 4 Normal Monster, 1650 ATK / 1600 DEF
"And then I end my turn." Turn 10: Clementine: 3700 LP / 2 cards / 2 monster / 3 Spell/Traps Hayato: 2200 LP / 6 cards/ 1 monster / 4 Spell/Traps
Hayato sighed before looking at his drawn card "I just end my turn."
Clementine frowned. "This is getting boring." She said. "I will attack your set card with Denko Sekka!" She said, attacking the set card with Dekko Senkka.
Denko Sekka quickly ran towards Immortal Bushi, and sliced him into an Immortal Twoshi. He faded away into more small particles as Denko Sekka ran back. "Now, Guardian of the Throne Room will attack directly!" She said as the hologram of Guardian of the Throne Room launched a giant missile towards Hayato, it exploding into a hologram explosion.
Hayato quickly resolved the effect of his Immortal Bushi generally not caring about that card Hayato drew his card thinking he would lose and looked at it. "This might be worth the risk... I summon Shien's Daredevil!"
Upon summoning Shien's Daredevil, Clementine activated the trap card that she had placed at the beginning of the game. 'Fiendish Chain' was activated, and chains erupted from the earth, wrapping up Shien's Daredevil
"Ah... There goes my comeback... In that case, I rightfully surrender from this duel." He sighed. "Well fought Clem-ch- I mean Clem-Dono."
Clementine wins by opponent's surrender.
As the duel ended, the lights in the arena began to darken, save for the one over Clementine. "Oh. I won." She said. Rather quickly, the lights went back to normal. The two duelists were expected to leave Arena B2 rather quickly, so Clementine left through the only exit for the duelists in the arena, meeting Hayato on the way. "That was pretty fun Hayato. I guess I'll see you 'round."
"Yeah! I enjoyed it! Mind if i walk with you?" He asked again, this time not trying to hide anything. "This deck is not very cute, is it?"
"I guess it's not." Clementine replied as the two walked out of the arena to watch the rest of the duels.
Hayato got terrible draw all game, Clementine got a 1700/1000 onto the field, Hayato couldn't stop it, Hayato had a last ditch effort to get a 1600+300 ATK card onto the field, but was stopped by a fiendish chains. Clementine won by surrender.
Smiling once it was his turn, having literally slept through the waiting period. Not because he was bored, but that he was already tired from the stairs, and figured a power-nap would make sure he was at 100% for the duel. Though he did feel somewhat bad that Hayato lost, since by the law of being annoyingly happy and optimistic, Hayato was already the first friend he had here. Whether he liked it or not.
Duel, Megan VS Haas, Clash of Gears and Swords!
Megan walked up to her soon-to-be competitor. "Hey, you probably already guessed but I'm Megan. Guess we're going to be dueling next. Which means of course we need to decide who starts things off." she said in a friendly manner and assumed the proper stance.
Haas nods, an eager smile on his face. "Mhm!" He says before getting into the same stance, before saying: "Rock...Paper..."
Megan said it in synch ending with both of them saying
"Scissors!"
Hand outstretched flat, Haas had chosen paper.
Megan's own hand was like a mirror, displaying that she had chosen the same. Megan shrugged giggling a little, "Alright one more time."
Surprised that they had both gotten the exact same result, Haas chuckled slightly, before going into the appropriate destiny dueling Rock Paper Scissors stance. "Rock...Paper..."
"Scissors!"
Different from last time at least, Haas had two fingers outstretched into a scissors formation.
Using logic Megan determined that Haas would now choose scissors thinking that she would choose the same thing, but since she knew what he thought she would beat him with... scissors?!
Staring blankly, Haas wonders just how something like this could happen twice. "R-Right...uh...A-Again?" he asked, scratching the back of his head, somewhat embarassed that this happened twice.
Megan laughed it off, "Uh, ya, one more time I guess." Usually she was really good at this. A determinded look on her face she once again, "Alright, rock... paper..."
"Scissors!"
Hand clenched tightly, Haas' iron fist was outstretched into the formation of the rock. Obviously the most powerful rock type in existence.
Megan confidently didn't change her hand's shape, remaining in the easiest choice that of rock. Her opponent was no doubt trying to trick her by changing once and then not changing the second time. But such tricks wouldn't work on her... AGAIN? She stared at the result awkwardly, "This uh... doesn't seem to be working. Maybe a coin toss is in order?"
Haas crossed his arms, confused on what the numbers were behind this...it was like the universe was in favor of a draw. But hey, there was no way to tie with a coin. Quickly pulling a spare coin from his pocket he nods. "Alright. You call it in the air then. Winner picks first or second. Alright?" he asks, poising the coin to spring off his thumbnail.
"Sounds good." Megan waited with anticipation carefully watching the coin, ready to call as soon as sit went into the air.
Megan didn't have to wait long as Haas flipped it into the air a good 10 feet above them, the metallic surface shining in the lights of the arena.
"Heads!" Megan called out confidently.
Haas crossed his fingers, hoping for tails...which never came, as the coin, defying logic, probability, and kicking reason to the curb. Just landed on its side, perfectly balanced vertically. "...HOW!?" he cried out, sinking to his knees and staring at the coin.
Megan stared at the coin dumbfounded. She couldn't even do that on purpose, much less with the randomness of it falling through the air and landing on the, no doubt no perfectly smooth, floor. "Um... how about you just go first alright?" Megan said shaking her head, what were the odds of that even happening. Maybe she was just getting all of the bad luck out of her system. Or worse, all the good luck.
Haas nodded dejectedly. He wanted to settle this in a fun way, but destiny just seemed to want a damn draw to this whole duel. Taking a deep breath and rising to his feet, he says: "Alright, My Turn!" as he draws his starting hand.
Turn 1: Haas Megan LP: 4000, Cards: 5 in hand Haas LP: 4000, Cards: 5 in hand
Quickly scanning through the cards at his disposal, Haas held the selected spell card out to face Megan. "I activate Shard of Greed!" he called before setting it into his spell/trap zone. A tiny fragment of what appeared to be a red eye sat beside him.
Setting another card face-down into his spell/trap zone, Haas sets a card into his Monster Card zone face-down. "I'll end it off there. Over to you." he says, a hint of excitement in his voice.
Turn 2: Megan Megan LP: 4000 Haas LP: 4000, Cards: 3 on field, 2 in hand
"Draw," Megan stated as she took another card and examined her hand. Hm, not too much to do here just try to begin setting things up. "Alright, I think I'll set one monster, one facedown card, and end my turn." Megan felt a lot better now that the duel was started, before she had butterflies but now she was just eager to play.
Turn 3: Haas Megan 4000 LP, Cards: 4 in hand, 1 set monster, 1 set spell/trap Haas LP: 4000, Cards: 1 set monster, 1 set spell/trap, 1 active spell on field, 3 in hand
Hyena- 1000 ATK
"Draw!" Haas called out, adding his new card to his hand. "Now that I've drawn, Shard of Greed gets a counter on it!" He declares as the eye slowly gains green glass-like mass, almost looking like it was part of something. Placing a monster onto his field, he says: "I summon Hyena, into attack mode!" After which, a rather hungry and cartoonish looking hyena slinks out from behind him, snickering before he says:"And now, I'll reveal my other Hyena!" Same dealio.
Both Hyenas started running around in a circle , before a spiraling black torrent of energy formed. "Now, I can overlay my two Level 3 Hyenas to Xyz Summon!" he calls before the two jump inside as two balls of brown energy. "Come on out, Rank 3, Mechquipped Angineer!" he says before a robotic being emerged, around the same size as him. "Battle Phase, Angineer, attack her face-down." he orders, the Roboangel heading in to attack.
Mechquipped Angineer- 1800 ATK
An Xyz summon this soon, Megan's deck didn't even have an extra deck. This duel already looked like it might be difficult. She watched the attack slam into her facedown monster turning it into pixels. "Now that you've destroyed my Lady of The Wasteland, I can Special Summon 1 Earth-Warrior monster with less than 1500 ATK from my deck, and I'll choose Obnoxious Celtic Guardian." A well dessed warrior wielding a sword appeared it place of her lady.
Obnoxius Celtic Guardian- 1200 DEF
Nodding in response to her effect, Haas says: "I can't do anything else, so I'll end my turn there."
Turn 4: Megan Megan LP: 4000 Cards: 5 in hand, 1 monster, 1 set spell/trap Haas LP: 4000, Cards: 1 Face-Up Monster, 1 Active Spell, 1 Set spell/trap, 2 in hand
Megan drew her next card silently considering what to do next. This card should be able to tie with his monster then she could simply bring it back. "My first move will be to summon Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke in ATK mode!" Megan said and a ninja covered in wrappings and wielding two small knives appeared on the field
Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke- 1800 ATK
"Now I'll enter the Battle Phase, since my ninja has just enough attack to tie with your Angineer, I'll attack destroying both of them!" Her ninja obediently leapt to attack, his knives whistling as they came towards the mechanical menace.
Haas smiled, calling out: "I activate Angineer's effect! Once per turn, during either players turn, I can shift my attack position monster to defense mode, and he can't be destroyed by battle OR card effects until the end of the turn!" As he spoke, one glowing ball of light faded from around Angineer, as it shifted to guard itself, pulling its wings in and curling up.
Mechquipped Angineer- DEF 1000
Megan was disapointed for a moment but she still had more monsters on the field. "Well I guess that makes it your turn."
Turn 5: Haas Megan LP: 4000, Cards: 2 Face-Up monsters, 1 spell/trap, 4 in hand Haas LP: 4000, Cards: 1 Face-Up Monster, 1 Active Spell, 1 Set spell/trap, 3 in hand
"My turn!" Haas calls out, drawing his new card, before the shard slowly gained more mass. "Alright, now that I've drawn twice from my draw phase, I can destroy Shard of Greed to draw two more cards." and, just as he spoke, the fragmented shard shatters, a cackle escaping it as it vanished, before two cards entered Haas' hand.
Smiling slightly, he reveals a monster card, calling out: "I normal Summon Dogu in attack mode!" before a large clay doll the size of himself appears from the ground, making a soft whistling sound.
Dogu- ATK 1900 "Now, I'll set one card and enter my battle phase." he says, setting a card in his spell/trap zone. "Dogu, attack Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke!" he calls out, as the clay doll spins in place, going at a rather high speed towards the ninja.
The ninja held his daggers in front of himself futily as he was smashed to pieces by the fierce attack. Megan didn't comment as 100 LP ticked away, it wasn't a big loss, though unfortunate.
"Now, for your guardi-" Haas said before realizing that Angineer was still in defense mode. A long, awkward pause emenated from him until he says, "Main Phase 2. I shift Angineer back to attack."
Mechquipped Angineer- ATK 1800 "Turn, end," he says, trying to hide his embarrassment.
Turn 6: Megan Megan LP: 3900, Cards: 1 Face-Up monsters, 1 spell/trap, 5 in hand Haas LP: 4000, Cards: 2 Face-Up Monsters, 2 Set Spell/Traps, 3 in hand
Megan held back a laugh when she saw Haas's mistake. This was fun. She drew her next card and gave a smile of relief. Nice, this should solve her dilemma nicely. Though... she might want to take things cautiously. Whatever, if she shifted her guardian to attack mode. "First thing I'll do is summon my Goblin Attack Force in, Attack Mode."
Goblin Attack Force- 2300 ATK
"Then I'll switch my Swordsman to Attack Mode as well and enter the Battle Phase. Goblin Attack Force, attack his Dogu!" The horde of goblins charged forward jabbering and swinging their weapons.
Obnoxius Celtic Guardian- 1400 ATK
Blinking in surprise as the attack force ran out, Haas says: "T-Twenty three hundred?" somewhat nervously. That was a strong monster, even with its downside. Thinking of all his options at the moment, Haas took a deep breath and takes the hit, the clay doll shattering into pieces as 400 damage was taken. Not too worried about that much damage, Haas just placed Dogu in his resting place.
Megan grinned, booya, first monster down. And now... her second monster didn't have enough attack to finish his other monster. Oops. "Alright, now my Goblin Attack Force's effect activate and they switch to defense mode." The horde lay down on the ground panting heavily from the attack cleary unable to battle.
Goblin Attack Force- Defense 0
"Your turn."
Turn 7: Haas Megan LP: 3900, Cards: 2 Face-Up monsters, 1 spell/trap, 4 in hand Haas LP: 3600, Cards: 2 Face-Up Monsters, 2 Set Spell/Traps, 3 in hand
Haas nods. He had an ever so slight disadvantage, but this was definitely manageable. "Draw!" he called out, adding his new card.
Looking at his options for a moment, Haa smiled slightly. "Alright, I can finally bring these guys out!" he says, before saying, "I Normal Summon Wind-Up Kitten!", sounding a bit more excited than he had with Dogu or Hyena. Suddenly, a little mechanized cat emerged from behind him, mewling slightly as it rubbed up against Angineer. "And now, because of his effect, I can Special Summon Wind-Up Shark from my hand when I Summon a Wind-Up!" he explained before a similarly designed mechanical shark swam through the air, little key in its back turning with each motion.
Wind-Up Kitten- 800 ATK Wind-Up Shark- 1500 ATK
"Battle Phase! First, I'll have Kitten destroy your Goblin Attack Force!" he says before the cute mecha kitties eyes turned a deep solid red, before it screeched and hissed at the goblins, before pouncing on them, tearing through their defenses...unless the Goblins could save themselves.
"Next, Shark, attack his Guardian!" he says as Shark starts swimming towards the Guardian before suddenly swimming quickly to his backside, making a swing at his feet with his tail, dealing 100 damage if it hit.
Megan watched as both her monsters were destroyed in quick sucession and she received a trifle of damage. At this rate...
"And finally, Angineer, direct attack go!" Angineer nods and slowly lifted off the ground, before targetting Megan, launching a single missle the size of an arm at her, the blow dealing 1800 damage if it would hit.
"Not so fast, I'll activate my trap card, Call of the Haunted, summoning my Goblin Attack Force back to the field in attack mode!" Megan called out as the goblin horde re-appeared on the field ready for action
Cursing his own luck, Haas stopped Angineer's attack. "Well then, my turn's over."
Turn 8: Megan Megan LP: 3800, Cards: 1 Face-Up monsters, 0 spell/trap, 5 in hand Haas LP: 3600, Cards: 3 Face-Up Monsters, 2 Set Spell/Traps, 2 in hand
Megan draw her next card and looked at the field wondering what best to do now. With all these equip cards maybe she should try Ben Kei, no not yet. "I'll activate the spell card, The Warrior Returning Alive to bring my Ninja Grandmaster from my graveyard back to my hand. Then I'll summon him to the field and equip him with my spell card, Divine Phoenix Blade!"
The daggers in the ninja's hands vanished to be replaced with a ornate blade and his atttack shot up to 2100. "Now that I have that much attack I'll start things of with my Goblin Attack Force attacking your Kitten! Next Ninja Grandmaster will fillet your shark!" Both the monsters leapt to attack destroying the weaker monsters. Megan grinned, so far so good, her goblins laid down ready to rest and she said, "Now that that's done I'll set one card and end my turn."
Haas was definitely worried at that point. There were two over 2000 beaters on her field, and Wind-Up Kitten was definitely the weakest link at the moment. An overlay unit was consumed, and he says: "Angineer, use your effect to protect Wind-Up Kitten!" at which point Kitten hurriedly covered its head with its paws, now in defense mode and indestructable after the use of Angineer's overlay unit. Shark, however, was fucked.
Wind-Up Kitten- DEF 500
As she expected, Haas had saved himself from the most amount of damage, oh well, she was still well set up.
Turn 9: Haas Megan LP: 3800, Cards: 1 Face-Up monsters, 1 spell/trap, 5 in hand Haas LP:2800, Cards: 2 Face-Up Monsters, 2 Set Spell/Traps, 3 in hand
Drawing his next card, a smile crossed Haas' face once more as he declares: "Now, I'll normal summon Summoner Monk!", And as he spoke from a glowing portal emerged a rather strange looking monk with a hood over his head, long hair spilling well past his knees. "When Monk is normal summoned, I can immediately switch him to defense mode."
Summoner Monk- DEF 1600
"Now, using his effect I discard one spell-card from my hand in order to Special Summon any level four monster from my deck, but it can't make an attack this turn," he explains before sending a card into his grave. "By dropping De-Synchro, I can special summon from my deck: Wind-Up Knight in attack mode."
From a glowing portal above Summoner Monk, a human-sized toy clad in full plate-mail descended, sword in his hand and poised in a stance as if ready to attack...before Summoner Monk patted his shoulder and had him sit down beside him, the two seeming to just be relaxing for the turn.
Wind-Up Knight- ATK 1800
"And now, I have two level 4 monsters." He said with an eager grin. "Yes! I can finally bring it out! I'll overlay my Wind-Up Knight with my Summoner Monk to construct the Overlay Network." he declares as the two sitting monsters turn into balls of raw eneergy, one a brilliant gold, and the other an earthy brown, spiraling into a black galaxy where they had once stood.
"Lord of balance and keeper of order in the Toy Kingdom, Descend now in order to tip the scales into our favor. Xyz Summon! Appear now, Wind-Up Zenmaister!" Haas called, the Overlay Network releasing its creation.
From the spiral, a massive machine even bigger than Angineer emerged, the balls of energy floating around it in a large orbit. A massive object appearing to be a scale was poised in front of it, perfectly balanced in its presence, a large golden key wound deeply inside of it's mechanism.
The Wind-Up Kitten still in defense mode looked up in awe at its mechanized master, bowing its head in respect.
"For every Overlay Unit attached to it, my Zenmaister will gain 300 Attack Points, which will bring him up to a grand total of 2500!" He explains as the two overlay units come to rest on the balanced scale, the perfect symmetry retained.
Wind-Up Zenmaister- ATK 2500
"Next, I'll activate the effect of my Wind-Up Kitten to send your Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke back to your hand, but he can only do that once while he's face up on the field," he says, before Wind-Up kitten's eyes glew that same shade of menacing red, as it lunged at Sasuke, trying to get him to run back to Megan's hand.
Megan looked at the field impressed as Haas whipped out a monster with a whooping 2500 Atk as her ninja was sent scuttling back to her hand, his sword left behind. This could be tricky but she saw a way out of this if it all worked out.
"And now, I'll switch my Wind-Up Kitten over to attack position." he says, before the kitten stops cowering, growling angrily at the goblins that were sitting on their asses. Pointing at said lazy ass goblins, Haas said:"Battle Phase. Wind-Up Kitten, attack Goblin Attack Force!"
Wind-Up Kitten- ATK 800
Megan was forced to watch helplessly as her goblins were shattered by the puny kitten, even worse though was what was coming next.
"Now, Wind-Up Zenmaister, attack directly! Balance Breaker!", he said with a great deal of excitement as Zenmaister poised to strike, raising his fist, and consequently tipping the scale upwards in the direction of his fist.
Megan winced as the holographic fist slammed directly into her causing a massive amount of damage
"Angineer, let's finish this." He says, Angineer's visor lighting up as it rose into the air once more, launching a holographic missile straight at Megan, one that would end the duel if it hit.
Megan looked at her hand and the field hopelessly as the missile closed in, finally she gave a resigned sigh as she watched her LP fall to 0, if only she'd had one more turn.
Megan:3800->0
Shaking off the feeling of disappointment Megan strode over to Haas and stuck her hand out. "Good game," she said firmly as she looked him in the eye.
Haas was quick to accept the handshake, replying back with: "That was great...I'm still not used to this deck, so it could use a lot of work, but I'd love to duel you again when we've got our recipes perfected." A grin on his face as he finishes the shake.
Megan smiled in kind, "You can bet on it!"
Very few wind-ups were actually used in the production of this duel. Also Haas won. Some say that to this day, they are still trying to figure out who would go first. Kittens>Goblins
Haas got oddly beneficial draws and XYZ'd to victory, but until Zenmaister got brought out, it was pretty much a battle of attrition.
Ethel watched on as the two duels in both arenas unfolded. The first to finish was that of the one in arena B2, where she was supposed to go and duel in a little bit. Much later the second duel ended an actually much the same way, one of the two duelists had surrendered their match... The girl double checked her belongings, seeing if the deck was properly secured and the duel disk hadn't been turned on by accident. The girl made her way off of the audience seats and onto the hallway where the duelists go through to reach the arena.
Vincent had watched the second duel from just outside of the arena while he was in preperation for his own duel agains the light blue haired girl, he honestly did not know what to expect from her. Once the match in the arena had ended, he waited for the two duelists in arena to vacate the arena for his match, to bring to close the first round. Double checking his Duel disk, he walked out onto the arena taking a position in one of the player designated zones.
A minute or two after Vincent had taken his spot, a thin and rather pale skinned girl calmly walked onto the designated zone she was supposed to occupy. Ehtel didn't say anything much of anything, really. All she was really doing was drilling holes into Vincent with her cold, mechanical stare. The bluenette took her eyes off of the opponent for a bit and looked at her duel disk, observing every provided slot in order to not get confused later on.
Vincent noticed his opponent staring at him but decided to ignore it, it was probably nerves after all but he couldn't help but feel like this might be a sort of deterrent by his opponent to put him off his game. Well the crowd was already doing that slightly and his opponent was only one girl, not like she could kill him or anything, hopefully he was right, right?
Ethel stretched out her arm, two additional monster and S/T slots revealing themselves from inside the device on her arm. It startled her slightly that seemed to work, but she didn't show it. Holding it out in front of her in the "Ready" position, Ethel waited on her opponent's signal to start.
Vincent decided to copy his opponent by activating his duel disk, and watched as it unfolded almost gracefully in front of his eyes, this is what would project his monsters. "Alright are you ready?" he asked.
"Duel!" "Duel!"
Turn 1: Vincent Ethel 4000 LP, 5 cards in Hand Vincent 4000 LP, 5 cards in Hand
Vincent drew 5 cards from the deck carefully and then observed the cards in his hand, it seemed like a good starting hand, "Alright I guess I will set one monster down and end my turn"
Turn 2: Ethel Ethel 4000 LP, 6 cards in Hand Vincent 4000 LP, 4 Cards in Hand, 1 Set Monster
Ethel drew her card carefully and placed it in her hand. The awkwardness of the duel disk's weight combined with how she has to fan out the cards was a little foreign to her, and she clearly had trouble maintaining a stable grip. Nevertheless she scanned over her hand looking for anything to use... She bit down on her lower lip at seeing her cards, though no other visible sign of distraught was noticeable.
"Activate... Cup of Ace..." Speaking in an almost robotic and soft tone, Ethel took a single spell card from her hand and slid it into the provided slot. "This card starts spinning... And if it stops downward... You draw two cards... If not, I do..." It was crazy how silently she was speaking, but after her explanation the card started rotating around above her head. "You... Call stop..."
"Alright I guess i will, Stop!" Vincent said, pointing at the card.
The green spell card made a few more turns, the sound of metal clanging together ringing out with every single turn. Eventually it settled... Downwards. Vincent got to draw two cards. Ethel looked dissapointed, mirrored in how her eyes glanced down ever so slightly compared to her normally steady gaze.
"Thanks for the cards, that was very nice of you to do that." Vincent said with a grin as he view the two cards that he had drawn from his deck. Glancing up at his opponant to see if anything else was gonna happen.
"I... Set one card... And summon one monster... End..." Grabbing the two cards from her hand, Ethel slid one of them face down into the Spell and Trap zone, while the other got placed face-up on the disk. A vortex opened up on the floor of the dueling field, a robotic insect of sorts crawling out of it. It's golden legs appeared first, with the white and blue body following soon after.
Ally of Justice Core Destroyer: ATK 1200 DEF 200, level 3 DARK Machine
Turn 3: Vincent Ethel 4000 LP, 3 cards in Hand, 1 Monster, 1 Set S/T Vincent 4000 LP, 7 Cards in Hand, 1 Set Monster
"Alright so its my turn again, I'll draw one card from the deck" Vincent said as he pulled a card from the top of the deck and added it to his hand. Looking at the sleek looking machine on his opponent's side of the field, Vincent decided that it would probably be a problem and should be dealt with quickly. "Okay, I flip my face down monster into face up attack position," Vincent said as his face down card's projection flipped face up revealing a white and gold wolf.
Ryko, The Lightsworn Hunter: ATK: 200 Def: 100
"I activate Ryko's Flip effect! I destroy your Ally of Justice Core Destroyer but I also send the top 3 cards of my deck to the graveyard!" Vincent shouted as he placed the top 3 cards of his deck into the grave.
Ethel's eyes widened in surprise when she saw her Core Destroyer go up in pixels and was forced to put it in the graveyard. She took a single step back, frowning a little at the move her opponent just pulled.
"I set one monster face down and then I'll end my turn." Vincent finished with a nod to his opponent.
Turn 4: Ethel Ethel 4000 LP, 4 cards in Hand, 1 Set S/T Vincent 4000 LP, 6 Cards in Hand, 1 Set Monster, 1 Face up Monster
Ehtel drew her card and once more seemed to have trouble maintaining a steady grip on them with the weight of the device on her arm pushing down on her. Keeping that thing straight was proving to be a challenge for her weak physique, but if the bluenette couldn't handle this then what COULD she handle? "I summon... Ally Of Justice Unlimiter..." Ethel called out to her opponent, placing the card on the metal surface. Another vortext opened as a black, jet-like contraption dashed out of it.
Ally Of Justice Unlimiter: ATK 600 DEF 200, level 2 DARK Machine
"Now I use Iron Call..." Sliding another card into the S/T zone, a spell card was visible to Vincent. It depicted a man using some sort of device to try and lure a metallic serpent out of a crater. "I can bring back my Core Destroyer now." As soon as Ethel finished explaining the ground tore up as Core Destroyer ran out of it furiously, letting out a shrill shried for the specators to cover their ears for.
Ally of Justice Core Destroyer: ATK 1200 DEF 200, level 3 DARK Machine
"Now I release Unlimiter..." The black jet launched itself up into the air and then stabbed into the backside of Core, the machine crying out in pain at the unexpected move. Gears turned on Unlimiter's side as red lights started to flicker on alongside Core's backside, its red eye lighting up more brightly than before. The black jet fell to the floor, broken just as Core started going wild.
Ally of Justice Core Destroyer: ATK 1200 > 2400 ATK
"Oh god, it just destroyed itself to double its ally's attack... this is gonna hurt isn't it?" Vincent responded at the situation, looking at his opponent with some respect.
"Yes... Now, Core Destroyer! Kill his Ryko!" All of a sudden the usually quiet girl seemed to fire up, a devillish smirk coming across her face when she yelled for Core to attack. Her eyes opened up wide in anticipation, Core destroyer running across the field to bash it's head into Ryko, sending it flying and shattering it into mere pixels.
Vincent raised his arms as his Ryko was shattered by the Core Destroyer and his Life Points were reduced by more than half. "That really hurt," he murmured under his breath.
Vincent LP 4000 > 1800
Ethel regained her composure after a few heavy breaths when this happened, standing proper again while signalling Vincent's turn with an "End." coming out of her mouth. When she did, Core Destroyer seemed to collapse to the floor right after it's lights flickered out, shattering into pixels. "When my turn ends... the monster summoned by Iron Call gets destroyed..."
Turn 5: Vincent Ethel 4000 LP, 2 cards in Hand, 1 Set S/T Vincent 1800 LP, 6 Cards in Hand, 1 Set Monster
Vincent looked at his lifepoints which where now below half after only one attack. Gnashing his teeth he drew his next card, "I flip my face down monster into face up attack position, Arise Kaibaman!" Vincent roared as a man wearing a mask with long flowing brown hair and a white trenchcoat stood up on his side of the field.
Kaibaman: Atk: 200 Def: 700
"Now I activate Kaibaman's effect to Special Summon 1 Blue-Eyes White Dragon in Attack Position," Vincent spoke triumphantly with a grin on his face.
"Blue... Eyes?" Ethel tilted her head for a moment in thought, before realizing what was about to happen. Her eyes widened in shock, knowing just what was about to hit the field...
Kaibaman looked up at the heavens above him and yelled a mighty yell, as the sound of a dragon's roar could be heard around the arena, Kaibaman was engulfed in a white pillar of light and disappeared into particles, as the Blue Eyes White Dragon descended from the sky, a magnificent beast of power and beauty, it landed on Vincent's side of the field.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Atk 3000 Def 2500
Ethel was... mesmerized by the dragon's beauty. Blue-Eyes was a famous card as the saying goes in the dueling world. There used to be only three in existence belonging to a legendary duelist said to have fought against the King of Games himself. Now the card had gotten more prints, but its overwhelming power was still talked about to this day... The expression on the girl shifted to match, her eyes widening not in surprise nor shock, but in awe.
Vincent looked at the Blue-Eyes White Dragon on his side of the field. It sure was one hell of a powerhouse. Who could forget a card that was one of the most popular cards in Duel Monsters? A card that practically everyone knew about due to its legacy. Vincent decided to try and go for the win in this turn "I summon Jain, The Lightsworn Paladin in attack mode!" Vincent said with a loud cry as a silverhaired knight wearing white and gold armor and carrying a sword and a shield was summoned to his side of the field. "Now Jain attack her lifepoints directly!"
Jain, The Lightsworn Paladin: Atk 1800 Def: 1200
Ethel let out a cry of surprise when the swordsman slashed at her, reducing her life points.
Ethel LP 4000 > 2200
"Now Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack her directly! White Burst Stream!" Vincent cried.
The white lightning beam charged up inside Blue-Eyes' gaping maw. Ethel's expression shifting to one of fear as her mouth curled down. In one quick burst, the beam was fired at her, and when it connected with the floor, a lot of white smoke rose up. Once it cleared, Ethel stood there, still, breathing heavily as a trap card picturing a man taking an explosion to the back was glowing next to her. "*Pant Pant* Right... Before you attacked, I activated Defense Draw... it makes the battle damage zero and gives me a card..." Ethel's expression changed to one of anger, now frowning and glaring daggers into vincent. She drew her card with a rough swing, practically slamming it into her hand.
Vincent frowned as his attack failed to defeat his opponant, all that grand build up wasted... Oh well. "I set down one card and end my turn," Vincent said, finishing his turn by placing one card into the spell/trap zone and putting the top 2 cards of his deck into the grave as per Jain's effect. "I also have to send the top 2 cards of my deck to the grave due to Jain's effect, Your turn." Vincent finished.
Turn 6: Ethel Ethel 2200 LP, 4 Cards in Hand Vincent 1800 LP, 4 Cards in Hand, 2 Face-up Monsters, 1 Set Card
Ethel drew her card with the same fury as before, but didn't look at it quite yet. "Why won't you just fall down and die?!" she yelled seemingly unprovoked. Something had gotten into her...
Vincent recoiled back a little scared at the girl. "Hey calm down a little, no need to threaten to kill others," he told her.
Paying no mind to what he said, Ethel looked at the card she'd drawn. "I activate Cup of Ace! Tell it to stop!" She yelled at Vincent, assuming he still remembers the effect from before.
"Stop!" Vincent shouted as he waited to see who got the cards.
The cup spun and spun until it slowed down, ticking... Ticking... Ethel was looking up at the card, hoping for it to stop upwards... But it didn't. It stopped downwards, again. "ARGH!" Letting out frustration with a cry, Ethel shot her opponent another heart-stabbing glare.
"Guess luck isn't really on your side... sadly." Vincent said as he drew 2 more cards from his deck
His taunting didn't help the girl one bit. She grit her teeth and took a card from her hand, holding it out to Vincent to show what it was. "When you have two of your stupid LIGHT monsters out, I can Special Summon Ally of Justice Cosmic Gateway without having to tribute!" Ethel roared, throwing the card onto her disk. The girl's mouth was covered by the collar of her hood by this point, and her blue strands of hair were getting unruly from all the shaking she did with her head. Another vortex opened up, a literal gate to who knows where rising up out of it.
Ally of Justice Cosmic Gateway: ATK 2400 DEF 1200, level 8 DARK Machine
"Now I sacrifice my Gateway for a Tribute Summon!" Out of the gate crawled a metallic worm like being, it's topside covered in golden armor.
Ally of Justice Omni-Weapon: ATK 2200 DEF 800, level 5 DARK Machine
"Hold up, I activate my Trap card: Interdimensional Matter Transporter, to banish my Jain, the Lightsworn Paladin until your End Phase." Vincent said as Jain was sucked inside the device to a unknown place.
Ethel was furious at the move Vincent just pulled, she wasn't able to do anything now! Omni-Weapon was dead weight on the field, and she could've just as well kept Gateway on the field. "Oooooh... I set ONE card and end my turn...!" Ethel gritted her teeth and set her card, passing off turn order as Jain re-appeared on Vincent's field.
Turn 7: Vincent Ethel 2200 LP, 0 Cards in Hand, 1 Face-up Monster, 1 Set Card Vincent 1800 LP, 7 Cards in Hand, 2 Face-up Monsters
"Alright, I guess this is the final turn, I draw" Vincent said as he pulled the top card out of his thinning deck, Vincent looked at the card in his hand. "Well, isn't this interesting." He murmered. "I Summon Lord of D. in Attack Mode!" Vincent cried as the lord of dragons appeared on the field in attack position.

"Now watch as the something emerges from the chaos, I Banish 1 LIGHT monster and 1 DARK monster from my Graveyard, to Special Summon LIGHTPULSAR DRAGON!"
2 balls, one dark purple in color, the other a light yellow, emerged from a vortex in the ground. They danced around each other quickly before colliding and exploding in a brillant flash of white light, revealing the Lightpulsar Dragon in all of its glory. Its wings stretched out wide, showing bluish white scales. In it's battle-fury, it let out a mighty primal roar towards Vincent's opponent.
Lightpulsar Dragon: Atk: 2500 Def: 1500
The moment Vincent Chaos Summoned Lightpulsar Dragon, Ethel knew it was over. The magnificent creature appeared on the battlefield with a brilliant aura, but it was too strong for Ethel to handle. She was staring at a total of four monsters on her opponent's field. She had only Omni-Weapon and a card face-down. Nothing she did right now would save her. Her legs gave in, the bluenette dropping to her knees in defeat after witnessing the Summon and now just waiting to be finished off.
"I'll make it quick," Vincent told his opponent almost like he was sorry for what he was doing, but she would probably do the same to him if the situation was reversed. "Blue Eyes White Dragon, Destroy her Omni-Weapon with White Burst Stream!" Vincent shouted at his Dragon.
Ethel had lowered her head, her hood covering her eyes which weren't visible to Vincent anymore. Omni-Weapon screamed and shattered, the wind blowing past Ethel who didn't even make an effort to react.
Ethel LP 2200 > 1400
"Now Lightpulsar Dragon, finish this duel off, CHAOS PULSAR!" Vincent Cried loudly as Lightpulsar Dragon formed a large mixture of light and darkness above its head in the shape of a sphere, which was hurtled towards Vincent's opponent.
Ethel looked up to see the ball of light hit her, sending her flying backwards onto the floor. She hit it pretty hard, letting out a small cry of pain as her Life Points dropped to zero. The girl groaned and rolled onto her side, then front in order to get back up.
WIINNER: VINCENT
"Oh god, are you alright?" Vincent said, concerned if he had overdone it a little. He didn't want anyone to get injured, that really wasn't his intention. He didn't want anyone to get hurt.
"Y-You..." Ethel was clasping her left side pretty tightly. When she was launched she'd hit the back of her duel disk, now stinging pain coursing through her frail body. "Y-YOU... I-I won't forget this...! I WON'T FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS!" she screamed at Vincent, lifting up her head to show small, delicate tears running down from her red eyes. The girl turned and ran away, back to her seat in an attempt to conceal her crying face.
Vincent watched her go, he couldn't help but feel like it was his fault. After all he didn't have to win the duel. He could have just performed it very well and then give his opponent the victory. He didn't want it to be like this. Even so he also didn't know the person and that is probably why he felt even more guilty. He decided to leave it until later. He didn't want to dig himself a grave. Vincent started walking back to his seat.
Ethel tried to put up a fight and took an early lead, but with her getting unlucky and Vincent playing smart her opponent overpowered her in just two turns.
Sat far in the backline of the B2 spectator seats was a mysterious boy. The mysterious boy doing mysterious...things. Well, not really mysterious things. Dressed in a ninja-like garb, the boy was simply sorting through his equipment. Duel Disk, Deck, booster pack. His wispy presence had kept him distant from all of the other students, so much so that they probably wouldn't have been able to recall seeing him on the bus ride - assuming he even used the bus to get here. He probably did use the bus though.
I mean, he wasn't quite going to reach the academy any other way. Still, that wasn't quite important right now.
Several minutes prior...
Despite being such a crowded area before, the room which split into the different arenas was now almost completely empty. Most of the students had picked their Decks and packs (assuming they wanted any) and had already made their way to the various arenas to watch the duels as they unfold, save for a small group of students that weren't too interested in the whole deal. The depressed teacher still remained at the rack though, and would probably wait there for some time; there was always the odd student who had to come in late, and this time was no exception. There was a burst of smoke in one of the corners of the room, and as it dissipated it revealed the mysterious boy - Venwyn Ael. How he had managed to get in like that was a complete mystery. It managed to spook the small group of students, but the teacher was completely unfazed by the entrance; he had seen it all before. Instead, he urged the boy to hurry up and pick a deck.
"Are you going to take a Deck, or...?" His voice trailed off.
However, all the Decks were gone. The wave of students had already taken them. Venwyn was about to comment on the fact, before the teacher sluggishly reached under the booster pack table, pulling out a medium-sized box. The contents of it was a combination of spider webs, actual spiders, and a single, dusty Deck. However, Venwyn was quickly able to discern exactly what Deck that was.
Ghostricks.
Ignoring the legged-demons and their silk traps, Venwyn reached for the Ghostrick Deck almost immediately. The teacher, still unimpressed by the ordeal, continued to clue Venwyn through the process.
"Booster Pack?"
"...Primal Origin." He said, reaching for the pack as he saw it.
"Duel Disk?"
"...Yeah." Venwyn replied, reaching for the duel disk in turn.
"Excellent." The teacher said, brimming with sarcasm. Of course, Venwyn didn't quite pick up on it, and simply bowed, disappearing in a puff of smoke as quickly as he had arrived.
The teacher pinched the bridge of his nose. These kids were getting weirder each year.
The third duel had just ended. Venwyn had ceased sorting his duel equipment long ago in order to watch the duel. The boy had assessed and watched the moves, plays and monsters, although it didn't really engage him. The highlight of the duel was definitely the anger that one of the duelists were subjected to over the loss. Venwyn hoped that his opponent wouldn't be like that, but then again, it would give him something to take amusement in. Speaking of which, the fourth announcement sounded, calling both Venwyn and Steven to make their way to the B1 duel arena. Following his past methods of getting around the school, the young duelist disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving the wrapper from opening his card pack behind.
It seemed as though Venwyn had arrived first. He took the time to quickly look over his pack. There were some interesting cards which Venwyn hadn't seen before, but the Ghostrick cards stood out in particular to him, and the boy updated his Deck accordingly. Placing the structure deck in the duel disk, Venwyn awaited Steven's arrival.
Steven had watched the other duels, completely unimpressed by the results. He sighed, placing his duel disk on his arm, as he readied himself for his duel. He knew it would be annoying, given the rather low power level of the decks, but it was also necessary. Steven did not want to get stuck in a dorm that was completely below his skill level.
As Steven stood up, he saw that his opponent had arrived first. This Venwyn character looked ridiculous. Steven almost laughed at him, but decided to hold it back, so that he didn't look like an asshole. As he walked towards arena B1, he took one last look through the deck of cards, and placed it into the duel disk. He made his way to one side of B1, taking his place, and activating the duel disk.
"Hello," Steven said, without even looking at his odd opponent. "Let's get this over with quickly, shall we?"
"Fair enough," Venwyn replied, activating his duel disk in response. He outstretched his arm as the device came to life, unfolding and setting itself with a few clicks.
"Want to go first?" He asked.
"Sure" Steven drew his hand of 5 cards as the duel began.
"Alright, I will set 2 Spell/Trap cards face-down, and 1 monster face-down," Steven decided not to do anything flashy, and just watch his opponent for now. "I end my turn."
"I draw." Steven drew a card from his deck, glanced at it, and placed it in his hand. He made a motion towards his face-down monster. "I flip summon Geargiarmor!" From the face down card came an odd Gear-like monster with 2 shields. "With its effect, I am able to search my deck for a geargia monster and add it to my hand." The duel disk expelled a card from his deck. "I will add Geargiano MK-II to my hand." Steven took the monster card, revealed it to his opponent, and put it in his hand.
Geargiarmor: 1100 ATK/1900 DEF **** EARTH Machine
"Now, using Geargiarmor's other effect, I am able to set it back in face-down defense position." The odd machine disapeared, just as fast as it had appeared, hiding itself in face-down defense position. "Following this, I will normal summon yellow gadget." The one-eyed yellow machine appeared from seemingly nowhere.
"I now get to add Green gadget to my hand." Steven grabbed the card as soon as it was expelled from his deck, showed it to his opponent, and added it to his hand. "And now, we move to the battle phase. Yellow Gadget will be attacking you directly."
"Sakuretsu armor," was the blunt reply that Steven received from Venwyn, activating one of his three Spell/Trap cards in response to the attack. A spiked suit of armor seemed to appear in the yellow Gadget's attack path, destroying it as it attempted to attack the ninja.
Venwyn drew his card. He appeared pleased with what he had drawn, but he quickly returned to his serious demeanour as he continued with the Main Phase.
"Shield Crush," Venwyn said, placing the card on the field. The card which Geargiarmor hid under developed cracks, and was eventually smashed, the pieces disappearing in yellow particles which faded away.
"I place a face down Monster Card and end my turn," Venwyn went through with his actions as he described them, and ended his turn.
Steven was a bit annoyed that Geargiarmor was gone, but he still had a chance.
"Alright, I draw a card." He placed the card in his hand, then observed his options. "I will Normal Summon Geargiauger." A Giant green drill, housing what seemed to be another one of those odd gears, appeared, and seemingly drilled away until it found the card it was looking for.
Geargiauger: 500 ATK/500 DEF **** EARTH Machine
"With this, I can add Geargiaccelerator to my hand." Geargiaccelerator was ejected from the deck, and Steven added it to his hand. "Now, I will Special Summon Geargiaccelerator in face-up defense position." A vehicle, with another one of those gears, drove onto the field from seemingly nowhere.
"Now, using these monsters, I will Xyz Summon Gear Gigant X." The two smaller machines came together, forming a giant monstrocity, with 2 small orbs floating around it.
Once again, Venwyn drew a card, and appeared surprisingly pleased to do so. Moving to the Main Phase, Venwyn flipped over his face down Monster Card. The Ghostrick Warwolf.
Ghostrick Warwolf 1400 ATK/1500 DEF *** DARK Zombie
"Because the card was flipped face up, Ghostrick Warwolf's effect activates. You take 100 damage per set card on the field."
The Ghostrick Warwolf released a loud howl as Venwyn said this, damaging Steven's life points by 400.
He then activated a Field Spell Card from his hand.
"Ghostrick Mansion," he said, placing the card into its respective zone. As he did, the ground seemingly began to rumble as a hous-no, a mansion erupted from the ground, surrounding the two duelists. Spectral wisps floated around the old room, and some displaced childlike laughter could be heard every once in a while.
Venwyn clicked his fingers, and the Ghostrick Warwolf turned his card over and hid under it, poiinting and laughing at Venwyn's opponent as he did so.
"Ghostrick Mansion halves all effect damage, and battle damage which isn't inflicted by a Ghostrick Monster," Venwyn explained. His eyes had a look of cool contempt mixed with arrogance. If his mouth wasn't covered by his scarf, Steven would see that he was smirking.
Steven drew his card. He couldn't have this duel go on for too much longer. He observed his hand and field, setting up a near perfect plan in his head.
"Alright, I use Gigant's effect to add Geargiattacker from my deck to my hand." Steven added the card to his hand, and began the combo. "I Normal Summon Geargiano MK-II, use it's effect to Special Summon Geargiano MK-III, and use MK-III's effect to Special Summon Geargiano."
"Ghostrick Scare," Venwyn said in response to the appearance on the monster. The face down card on the field flipped itself up.
"I choose to flip up the Ghostrick Werewolf, activating his effect again, albeit with half the damage."
The Ghostrick Warwolf flipped his card over into face up defense position and released another (quieter) howl, dealing 150 damage to Steven's life points.
"It also allows me to turn one of your monsters face down. I chose the Geargiagear Gigant."
The card which the Geargiagear Gigant stood on flipped itself over, concealing the monster. Steven let out a sigh.
"I activate the field spell Geartown, and end my turn." A mess of gears and odd machinery rose up around Steven as his turn ended, clashing with the mansion-esque background of Venwyn's side of the field.
"I draw." Venwyn said, drawing (this feels so redundant). The Ghostricks were stalling the duel, it was all apart of the strategy. "I activate Pot of Duality. It's like Pot of Greed, but not banned." Venwyn explained as he excavated three cards from the top of his deck. The cards were Ghostrick Night, Ghostrick Jackfrost and Ghostrick Jiangshi.
"I choose Ghostrick Night," Venwyn said, placing the other two cards into his deck and shuffling.
Steven drew his card, and as he looked at it, a develish smile formed on his face. "I think it's over."
"Explain further." Although he didn't wait for a reply, instead he continued with his own strategy.
"Ghostrick Night," Venwyn said. The face down card he had placed the turn before revealed itself, and the field became slightly darker.
"Ghostrick Night prevents you flip summoning, as long as there is a Ghostrick Monster on the field, and there is." He said, motioning toward the Ghostrick Warwolf sitting on his face-up card.
"Anyway, continue."
Steven's develish grin did no cease, it simply grew.
"Well, isn't that perfect. I move to my main phase, and activate fissure." Steven looked at his opponent, the grin disappearing, as he returned to his usual, serious demeanor. "I am sure you know what this does." A pit opened up beneath Venwyn's warwolf, swallowing it up, and destroying it. With the death of Warwolf, the miasma of darkness disipated, lighting the field up once again.
"I flip summon Geargiagear Gigant XG, and move to the Battle Phase. Gear Gigant X will attack you first, along with that, I will activate the effect of Geargiagear Gigant XG, preventing you from activating cards or effects, and also negating the effects of all face-up card you control until the end of the Damage Step." The Gigant moved slowly forward, and aimed it's metal fist at Venwyn, dealing 2300 damage to his life points.
"And now, I will have Geargiagear Gigant XG attack you, protecting itself with its effect." The giant hunk of machinery aimed a large gun at Venwyn, and fired, dealing 2500 damage to him.
As the duel came to a close, Steven was not suprised by the outcome. His opponent was playing slow, barely doing anything. He returned all his cards to his duel disk, and walked away, paying no heed to his opponent, who had probably already disapeared.
A look of pure malice washed over Venwyn's face. He had almost completed his strategy, but had managed to fail in a single turn. It was impossible to describe his anger in a single word, "blowing a gasket" would probably be more appropriate. In spite of that, he didn't throw any insults or profanities, but you could feel the tension in the arena. A few people had noticed his enraged silence, and braced themselves for some kind of storm.
...
...
"This is only a card game," Was the only sentence Venwyn uttered before disappearing in a puff of smoke, not even bothering to congratulate his opponent.
...At least the tension was gone.
Duel was mostly Steven searching for cards, and Venwyn sitting around. At the climactic scene, Venwyn gets Steven's ace monster locked under Ghostrick night, but Steven drew the perfect card, fissure, destroying Venwyn's only monster, and going in for game.
Hayato just finished one last conversation with Clementine and decided to look for the young man he talked to earlier. Finding him ready to take a nap merely tapping his shoulder to make sure he doesn't nod of. Before Hayato said anything he took out his now opened card pack "Did i catch you at the wrong time? Wait... What was your name again?" Hayato scratched his head, struggling to find a new subject to talk about. Hayato never had a chance to talk to other people other than his parents, and decided to say the first thing that came up in his head "Using a duel disk for the first time is interesting..." Hayato paused for a couple seconds and remembered the moments he was attacked "but terrifying at the same time..." Hayato took off his Duel Disk to inspect it a little more "wouldn't you agree?" he said attempting to put a card on his now disabled duel disk to see what it would look like if it wasn't on
