"Haa...maybe now that that's over, I can just relax and-"
Haas thought as he leaned back in his seat, before someone tapped his shoulder. Slowly opening his somewhat less energetic eyes, Haas looked at Hayato sleepily. Aaaand he forgot his name. Yawning slightly, Haas rubbed a bit of sleep from his right eye. "Haas." is all he says, slouching in his seat. Overall, Haas seemed somewhat tired, no longer eager and bouncing around.
"...Well, it's not that weird. But I guess I'm just biased since I've been around lots of them." he says, reaching a hand up to scratch the back of his chestnut hair. "I guess after a while it just becomes as easy as flicking your wrist. At least that's what a pro said in a magazine once." he explained, pulling his somewhat flattened Zen and Punishment deck box from his pocket. "...Hmm...I wonder if anybody did what I was doing with these boxes..." Suddenly sitting up, Haas adds: "Hey, you and most other people threw your deck boxes out the minute you opened them, right? I'm thinking that for some that might have been a bad move."
Hayato took out a strange crane origami with the colors that would represent his previously opened deck's box in response to the flattened box "you mean this?" Hayato asked in response "want me to do the same to yours?" Hayato said pulling out a pair of small scissors out of his pocket "I can pretty much turn anything that doesn't interest me into a origami" Hayato knew folding cardboard into origami was a pain in the butt. But he enjoyed doing it because the harder it was to fold the object the bigger the challenge was to finish it.
"Did you get yourself a pack by the way? he asked right after Haas's response to the origami, Slightly excited to be around other people to talk to but his voice never changed to reflect his excitement after his loss a few rounds earlier "oh yeah my parents told me to give someone a gift whenever you make a friend" he took out a Red Crane origami decorated with a few gems out of his small backpack. "Take this. it's not my best work but you can have it i always have one on hand anyways..."
Blinking a couple of times as Hayato basically ignored the porkchop and went for the single pea, Haas shrugged. "Nah. I want to keep mine as a keep-sake. Thanks though." he said in response to Hayato's offer to turn his box into a paper bird. Staring at the red crane that Hayato was offering, Haas hummed for a moment. "...Hmm...you sure? This looks kinda valuable with these little rocks in this...I know!" he says, suddenly looking excited once more.
Rushing over to the luggage pile, Haas retrieved his duffle bag and returned quickly, before pulling out what appeared to be a tiny tin wind-up flounder. "Not much, but I wouldn't mind trading for this. Consider it my gift of friendship then." he says with a grin on his face, though he still looked a bit more tired than when Hayato first met him. "Oh yeah, and I didn't get a pack." he added on rather quickly.
Relaxing in his seat, Haas sighed contentedly, resting his hands behind his neck as he reclined slightly. No lumbar support, but somewhere that he could sleep was comfy enough. Gently putting his duel disk into his bag, once he felt the hard edge bump against the back of his head, Haas crossed his legs over one another, knee pressed against his right heel. "...How many more of these placement duels you figure are going to go down?"
Hayato looked at the tin fish that was offered "a flat fish?" Hayato scratched his head in slight confusion "if you can part ways with this err fish i'll take it as your gift of friendship" Hayato said slightly smiling "i'm not sure about the amount of placement duels, should be maybe 4 more." he took a small guess and proceeded and quickly change the subject "what do you think the dorms are going to be like?" Hayato yawned loudly for about 5 seconds after asking his question "Sorry... i didn't sleep well before i came here and i couldn't sleep on the bus" Hayato apologized before taking a seat himself
A loud buzz came over the various speakers littered around the several floors of the tower. Though unintentional, the audio feedback made for a great way to get the attention of the students. As the feedback subsided, several loud knocks were broadcasted. Mumbles followed after. After a brief period of awkward silence, a voice began to project through the speakers.
"Greetings soon-to-be professional duelists!"
An elderly voice said in an excited tone that seemed to be forced.
"As our entry duels complete, we now invite you to come back down to the lobby for a more formal introduction and further information."
The elderly voice no longer spoke, but the loudspeakers were still noticeably buzzing. After more short mumbles, the loudspeakers finally turned off. Teachers began to instruct the students on where they should go, if they were still lost.
Once all the students had made it to the lobby, blinds had been deployed over the windows and the lobby lights were dimmed. A large spotlight was placed over the center stage (which was more of a giant wooden box on wheels moved against a wall). In the center of the spotlight was a podium, and behind the pedestal was an elderly man who sat in a wheelchair. The elderly man appeared to extremely weak, his muscles atrophied to the point of being bound to a wheelchair. It appeared as if you could break his bones by blowing on them. The old man tapped on the microphone multiple times to ensure it was turned on. He began to speak.
"Greetings our new class of... Whatever year this is... I am the creator of this academy." He said, his voice extremely weak. The elderly man coughed multiple times (thankfully, away from the microphone as to not project the sound into the crowd). "I see many of you feel passionate about dueling... That is a good passion, yes. I see that some of you have already become friends. That's also good. But just remember... The old man stopped speaking for a few seconds. Without any warning, he leapt from his wheelchair and landed on the podium, much to the surprise of everyone.
"Remember on how we got started! Remember why we still duel to this day! Remember why we lose and why we win! Remember to make friends along this difficult journey! But most of all... Most of all..." The old man stopped speaking as he grabbed the microphone. He tossed it on the ground. A loud bang followed, but was cut short by a young man working audio turning off the speakers. The old man yelled at the top of his lungs: "Remember to believe in the heart of the cards!"
His words echoed around the lobby. The yell was much louder than the speakers usually are. His small body seemed to be full of vigor now. He crawled off of the podium and sat on the wheelchair once more. All that strength appeared to fade within a second as he once more became wheelchair bound.
The teacher who handed out the decks and packs came up the the podium as the old man was pushed away by a young woman. "Please listen to your new dorm locations." He said, still uninterested.
"Earth... Various names were called out, most of which were completely unfamiliar to each other. "Floyd Edwards, Ethel Cilantro, Hayato Ray..." More unfamiliar names were called out. It was also very noticeable that he didn't try to pronounce any name correctly.
He then moved on to the next listing. "Wind... Clementine Goorin, Haas Mesman, Megan Clarinet, Venwyn Ale..."
Then to the final listing. "Light... Yin Yang, Michelle Klean, Vincent Goofus..." He said. It was almost as if he was intentionally messing up the names.
"All students, please visit your room at the underground dormitories... The doors should have your name on it." The man quickly left the podium as the spotlight ended and the lights returned.
As the students got to the dormitories, they noticed that each room was different. The Earth rooms were, well, accommodating. There was a dresser that contained nothing but mud-colored uniforms and a single twin-sized bed with pure white sheets. On the dresser lay a small order form, to which they could order up to 2 personal commodities.
The Wind rooms were more accommodating. They had bigger rooms with twin-sized beds. They had access to a (albeit small) closet containing their light green uniform (which were the best, by the way). On the opposite side to the bed was a vanity make-up table with various empty drawers. There also was an order request form, to which they could order up to 4 personal commodities brought to them.
The Light rooms were the best for all of the first years. They had a rather large room and a rather large closet which contained their "golden" yellow uniforms. They also had a full sized bed instead of a single. On their fairly large vanity table, they had a small scented candle with the smell of brand-new card pack. To the left of the candle was an order request form, to which they could order up to 6 personal commodities brought to them, along with a different design of uniform (if they desire).
As night fell, students began to sleep. what should have been a 10 hour rest had been cut short at the 5th hour. A loud speaker blared out to each room.
"Would all students please arrive in Arena B1 for a... special event?"
Haas wasn't too far behind on the yawn train, explaining: "Yeah...that fish was something I made before leaving home...supposed to be Tin Goldfish, but I kinda messed up on the head. So I guess it's a Tin Flounder." in a joking manner. Resting in his seat, tettering back and forth, Haas responded to the question of dorms, saying: "Well, a bed and a roof is plenty for getting some sleep. Especially since we're in the desert." with an aloof tone, throwing his head back as he waited for the placement duels to finish.
Once the announcement came on, Haas was already fast asleep, startled by the suddenness of the chairman's announcement. Scrambling to not fall over, Haas got to his feet and sighed deeply, bags already apparent under his eyes. "...Just let me sleep already..." he grumbles, walking with his back slouched, arms hanging like limp noodles, his duel disk barely clinging to his arm as it swayed to and fro. One might mistake Haas for a very thin and hairless gorilla at a glance. Standing like that as the chairman spoke, Haas really only paid attention to when his name was called, and associated the word "Wind" with "Place to go the fuck to sleep". Passing Hayato on the way to the elevator, he simply said: "Night..." as he clambered for a spot on the elevator. Fumbling with the door of his room a few times, Haas eventually smiled widely at the sight of his bed. Nice...big...comfy...and there was a lot of green in the room. Nice, calming green.
Completely disregarding the closet, the vanity dresser, the form, AND the fact he still had shoes on, Haas flopped onto his bed and closed his eyes, sleep taking the somehow tired kid quickly. Pleasant dreams of the countryside back home filled his mind, and eventually, somehow he started thinking of all the cool stuff he'd get to do at the academy. Like duel...and...duel some more. And take loads of naps in the schoolyard. Chilling out and never working too hard...some sort of catchy beat in the background. Oh god, there was a french transvestite in the dream too. And a koala man.
Luckily, he was pretty rested up even with only five hours to work with. That was...what, (60/15) X 5? 20 power naps. Fuel tanks fully charged, Haas' eyes lit up like as if a giant robot just got turned on, and he somersaulted out of bed. "Refuel completed!" he chirped as he listened to the announcement, bouncing on his feet, and promptly changing into his uniform after removing his duel disk. Removing his deck and placing it into a convenient pocket on his uniform's pectoral area. Practically sprinting up the stairs to the eleventh floor once again, Haas made it in record time, barely beat by the elevator.
Megan frowned, her last name wasn't clarinet. It didn't even sound like it. There was distinct difference between the two, her name wasn't even spelled strangely. Whatever, shrugging she made her way into her dorm, finding it relatively easily. She gave the room a quick once over, finding it to be pleasant. Megan noted the order log but didn't want to waste her options so she decided to save her purchases for later.
Since her suitcase was already there she quickly unpacked, changed into nightclothes and after taking one last look around fell into her bed with a sigh of relief. It had been a long day, what with the stuffy bus ride, the exciting opening of her pack and her first duel here. All in all it had been a good day, Megan thought to herself as she feel asleep blissfully.
"Blargelsnargh!" Megan cried out in surprise as she flailed around in response to the glaringly loud noise. As a result of her somewhat incoherent scream she only caught the last end of the announcement which consisted of, "Arena B1 for a... special event?". Yawning and rubbing the sleep out of her eyes Megan quickly dressed in her new uniform, equipped her duel disk and made her way outside. She briefly pondered taking the elevator but decided that she needed to wake up so she took the stairs at a light jog instead. Megan might arrive a little slower than most but at least she'd be awake.
After the conversation with Haas, Hayato started to fall asleep but quickly shot up when he heard about the placements. Quickly forgetting which dorm he belonged to but understood he was supposed to look for the door with his name on it upon arriving to the floor he think he belonged to he was met a few doors all with different names on them, his own name was on many doors but luckily they added the last names as well, he found the door with his name on it which somehow was spelled as Rey instead of Ray which he chuckled at for a second and entered his room instantly changing into his sleepwear and taking off everything he doesn't need while sleeping tossed it on the floor and without wasting time He instantly went to sleep.
5 hours later a loud anouncement was made calling them to the arena for a "special event", Hayato slowly woke up, but still sleepy not thinking straight about grabbing his belongings other than his deck. Hayato decided to walk out of his room without preparing himself and took the elevator up and walked towards the dueling arena that was mentioned and just stood there wondering where everyone else was but he slowly realised the things he forgot to do but before he could go back to grab his stuff and make sure he has his usual ponytail everyone else started to arrive and had no other choice but to take a seat wearing his pink/red simple PJ's his face as Red as a tomato not wearing his neck accesory he had the day before
Ethel had calmed down a bit, but was still staring at the floor in the corner of the room. Her two locks of blue hair nearly touched it, hovering right above the surface and next to the girl's feet. She felt terrible about that loss. Nothing she wanted to do went her way. She only looked up as the last two duels were finishing up, soon after the various speakers scattered around the room hosting a voice. It called for everyone back into the lobby. Not like the bluenette had much of a choice... The gray duel disk she used earlier laid on the bench next to her, which Ethel picked up and put on top of the roller suitcase she brought with her. The handle was already extended, so if she started rolling there'd be no risk of it falling off. The cards she'd used earlier are still in the disk, and the pack was tucked away with the girl's luggage. Ethel rose to her feet, grabbed the handle of her suitcase and started to head off towards the main lobby area.
Once arrived someone wheeled up to the podium. An elderly man, which would be the principal. The man started off his speech pretty standard. Then they jumped up on the podium, a few surprised cries coming out from some of the students in front of Ethel. Not surprising with how frail the man looked. The old man seemed full of vigor and reflects that by throwing the microphone to the floor, which made nearly everyone in the room flinch. After shouting "Remember to believe in the heart of the cards!" out loud the principal crumpled back into the wheelchair, rolled off and the teacher from earlier took their place. He started listing off names according to dorm, almost purposefully mispronouncing most of them... Including Ethel's last name. That got a little on her nerves, though nothing to make her lose her composure like earlier. The girl turned out in Earth... It didn't surprise her much, but it did make Ethel bite her lip. Ehtel's parents weren't going to be happy with this result at all... After this students were allowed to leave, and Ethel happily complied. She rose from her chair and made her way to the elevator, manages to catch the first one down and awaits the arrival to floor -1.
It didn't take long for the girl to find her room. When she entered the earth section it was one of the first doors there, likely due to being in the second batch of duels. The person who got the room next to her was someone by the name of... 'Hayato'. Wasn't that the kid that dueled before her? Well, it's not as if Ethel pondered it for very long. The door opened easy enough and the bluenette had wasted no time unpacking her belongings. All it really was were some clothes, some utilities and a stuffed animal. Said stuffed animal was a rabbit with long ears actually hanging behind the head, most of it fur being black with some neo dark blue stripes running across it. On it's right eye was a lighter blue goggle of sorts, the little beady eye barely fitting into it. It was Ethel's favorite... After she was done organizing her things, Ethel went to the desk with the note on it. It was an order form of sorts. She could order two things if needed... When the girl had properly read the paper she'd immediately wrote down stuffed animals. She loved those, as reflected by the rabbit Ethel chose to bring with her. The second thing was a music player, alongside CD's of her favorite J-pop group.
With that the girl had just about wrapped everything up in the room. A good half hour had passed with her sorting everything out. Honestly, Ethel didn't like the uniforms much... They were too moody for her. She actually undressed in her room and put on another outfit, a rabbit hoodie not dissimilar to her actual stuffed animal, though a lot more skin is showing compared to the previous one. She still wore the same skirt, though she also swapped out her previous kneesocks with horizontally black-and-white striped ones. There was still some time to kill, so Ethel laid down on the bed and flung one arm over her eyes, attempting to take a small nap as there wasn't much else to do. She held the rabbit from earlier in her other arm, close to the stomach.
Then the announcement came. Ethel was jolted from her sleep, frantically looking around to see where it was coming from. Luckily nobody saw her at that moment, she looked about to sprint... The actual message was for people to gather in arena B1 again, which REALLY confused the bluenette. Weren't they supposed to have a resting period now? Ugh, didn't matter. Begrudgingly the frail one got up. She'd been in her sleepwear a bit earlier, which consisted of nothing but a simple oversised dark-blue T-shirt, but quickly changed back into the hoodie from earlier. Ethel scanned the room for where she left the disk. It was on top of that desk from earlier, which came in handy as it wasn't too far of a walk. She secured it to her arms and walked out of the room, locking it behind her. She grabbed one of the elevators up again, noticing a few familiar faces. Didn't take long for the elevator to reach it's destination. Ethel walked to the arena alongside a few others, taking a notice of the 'Hayato' boy from the placement duels, who was also her neighbor. Maybe she should sit next to him... They're going to be dorm mates after all...
Ethel walked over and took a seat next to Hayato, taking a quick glance at the ponytail he wore. It looked kind of silly, with the trench coat and all, but everyone should dress herself how they want to. Hell, Ethel's one to talk with what she's wearing right now...
While not quite there for the announcement in it's entirety following his disappearance, Venwyn was close enough to pick up on his name, and in turn his dorm placement.
Wind. Venwyn was somewhat okay with it. It related to his nature in a way. He had left almost immediately after his duel with Steven, only learning about his supposed "win" a few hours after through teacher notification, but the points stayed the same. Still, the points didn't matter to Venwyn too much, he had still lost, which was the heart of his problem; the Ael Clan was probably disappointed in him, and he'd probably receive a message about it shortly. True to the prediction, as he entered his room his attention was not drawn to the vanity table, or the request form, it was drawn to the note on his bed, with a single tally mark on it. He reacted to it with stern expression, picking it up and placing it on the vanity table before heading to sleep.
It was early in the morning. Around an hour and a half prior to the announcement. The halls were empty, and quiet, aside from the sloshing and splashing sounds made by the mop being used by that one janitor who had to clean the halls in the early hours of the morning. The lights in the dorm hallways were off at this point in time. The academy would turn them off past 12:00pm - or just dim them - as a way of deterring students from wandering around at night sometimes. Despite that, it was still possible to see down the hallway... for a few meters; everything else was just complete darkness. The janitor had just finished mopping up the Earth hallways, and was gathering his supplies to make his way to the Wind hallways.
It was at this point in time there was a thundering sound coming from deep within the Earth hallway. The slight rumbling of which caused some of the water in the janitor's bucket to spill slightly. It was the sound of footsteps. Loud footsteps. The noise grew much louder, and the janitor sighed, as though he knew what was about to happen.
"GET BACK HERE!" Shouted a deep, aggressive voice.
From the darkness darted a student, darting past the janitor and coming close to knocking the janitor's supplies over. It was Venwyn. The boy didn't stop to apologize to the janitor; he didn't even acknowledge him at the time, speeding through the first half of darkness and into the next, but it wasn't him who was making the noise: Venwyn was quiet in his movements. A few seconds after Venwyn's departure marked the arrival of the thunderous figure who was causing all the noise.
"I SAID 'GET BACK HERE'!" The voice shouted again. A large figure - easily passing 6 feet tall - burst through the darkness in pursuit of the ninja, barrelling past the janitor's equipment and knocking them over. At least the bucket was fine.
The large figure was none other than Acen Honj; the long-standing burly and athletic teacher who did... everything and anything. Teaching, counselling, hall monitoring and announcing were in this man's repertoire - and those were only the "normal" jobs, ignoring the smaller odd jobs that he did for the academy. His overall aggressive and threatening nature in addition to his inability to speak in any volumes other than loud and very-loud led him to be known as "Transformer," because the students felt that he could "transform" your limbs into broken ones. Despite his reputation among the students, he wasn't really well known amongst the first years quite yet, but the rumours about him had definitely been circulating since the first day.
Currently, Transformer was chasing Venwyn with what appeared to be... the school uniform? It was true. Acen was holding the uniform in its entirety with a coat hanger; the Wind uniform, to be precise. They had been going at this for around an hour now, running around the hallways of the various dorms.
"DAMN IT KID, WEAR YOUR UNIFORM!" Transformer yelled as he stampeded after Venwyn.
"You'll have to catch me first, boob!" Venwyn retorted. He was still wearing his regular clothes - the uniform of the Ael Clan. The Wind uniform wasn't necessarily bad, but Venwyn wasn't inclined to wear it due to his pride, not to mention the fact that he had a ton of the Ael Clan garb, and he didn't want them to go to waste.
The chase continued into the hallway of the Wind dorm. The announcement had sounded off at this point, and students were beginning to wake up and make their way toward the Arena B1. The two speedsters hurdled over and weaved through the students as they emerged from their rooms.
"YOU CAN'T KEEP THIS CRAP UP FOREVER!" Transformer bellowed. This was probably the first time he had encountered someone with such endurance - normally he'd have caught them by now.
"YesIcanyouboob." Venwyn said unnecessarily quickly, increasing his speed and gradually edging toward the wall of the hallway until he was... running on it? He can do that? Seriously? It seemed sort of anime-like, fictional: almost as if this were simply a passage of text on a roleplaying forum. He continued to run across the wall through the final lengths of the Wind hallway, with the burly teacher not too far behind.
The chase had managed to progress into the Light hallways. Venwyn was back on the ground again as normal, but still running away from his pursuer. Kind of like one of those gazelles running away from a lion or something. In the same vein though, the lion would win. Transformer had kept pace with Venwyn, reaching out to grab him by his scarf, but as he grabbed it there was Venwyn's signature puff of smoke. It didn't daunt Transformer, and he continued to reach into the smoke to catch Venwyn, grabbing and pulling out a... log? The dust had settled, and Venwyn was gone.
In Venwyn's place was a large pile of logs though. At least seven logs.
Why seven logs? I don't know.
Venwyn had reappeared in one of the seats in the Arena B1, and awaited the event to begin.
After all the placement duels had ended, there came an announcement. Moving to the lobby with everyone else, an old man came out and gave a speech on the importance of the origins of Dueling and the Heart of the Cards. Once that was done, the same bored teacher who handed them their packs and decks began to list who were in what dorm. Michelle noted that the teacher didn't seem to care how to pronounce everyone's names, but as long as she knew where she was, it didn't matter to her. Michelle also noted that she was in the Light dorm, which was apparently the highest placement one could get.
Michelle left after the announcements were over and went to go find her room. The Light rooms were, well, quite spacious and luxurious. It was to be expected for the highest placement dorms, but still. Opening the closet, she found the yellow uniforms and decided to try one on. It wasn't the best looking, but it fit and it was comfortable enough. She had no need for anything else. She sat down on the edge of her bed and began looking through her deck. As she shuffled through her deck and her eyes landed on Soaring Knight Parshath, Michelle looked back on her duel. At the moment, Yin looked like she was about to activate a Trap card, but held back at the last moment. Now that Michelle gave it some thought, she might have actually lost instead if Yin had used it. With that thought in mind, Michelle could no longer count her victory against Yin as an actual victory. Michelle silently vowed to have a rematch against Yin someday and see who would really triumph over the other. Returning to reality, Michelle noticed that it was getting dark. Michelle got ready for bed and went to sleep, intending to be well rested for tomorrow.
However, it seemed as though tomorrow had other ideas. An announcement was made very early in the morning, waking Michelle up abruptly. She rubbed her eyes and put on her glasses to check the time. Too early for her standards, but she would make do. Michelle got out of bed and stretched, then got dressed and headed out to Arena B1 as the announcement requested. Whatever it was, it better be important enough to wake up this early.
Yin couldn't believe the incompetence of some of the people at this place. Why would they hire such worthless help? The guy announcing everyone's rooms couldn't pronounce things to save his life. Oh well it's not like it was the usual five star hotel presidential suites she was used to, so these minor inconveniences were just something to get used to. Yang though? Seriously? That was just pathetic, not to mention a bit unimaginative...Unsurprisingly though Yin made it into the highest tier she could at the school, light. Then finally she got to go to her room.
Arriving at her new luxury room, at least compared to the others, Yin smiled and spun around once all excited. It wasn't home, but it was nice, and it was all hers! Yin went back to the door she'd neglected to close early and did so and then locked it before kicking her heels off to the side and unpacked. She found a nice yellow chinese styled dress for the next day which she set aside for the next day and then continued to unpack. Not much time later she had completed her unpacking and approached her request forum on her rather nice table. She got six items of her choosing.
She needed to think about this for a moment. Finally after a few minutes of thought she had her first thing to right down. 'Gummy Bears'. Alright now what could the second thing be? Once more she had to think for a few minutes before it finally came to her, and not just her second item, no she also came up with her third item! 'A violin and a piano'. At this point Yin sat back and smiled momentarily before contemplating her next three items. That's when it finally occurred to her. 'Scented candles/Incense', which should technically count as one since they go under a similar category. Next up for number five 'A laptop with touch screen capability'. Now the biggest problem. What was her last item going to be? Well that was a joke more or less because it was obvious. 'A full wardrobe of Chinese styled dresses for her dorm's color and symbol, including off color with the right symbol'. Yep. This year was going to be good.
Finally after these last fifteen minutes of decision making had passed it was time to hit the shower, after which Yin drifted into bed and fell asleep. The only good thing about not doing terribly much but rest the day before was that now that there was an annoying person waking her up over a speaker, she wasn't terribly tired. If one really reviewed the day before that she had, she rode a private jet to get over to this country, which she mostly slept on. She then took a bus to get to this place, which she mostly slept on, and seh dueled once to find out where her room would be, go to that room, find the bed, which she slept on. So getting up for a trip to arena B-1? That was nothing. Yin looked at her closet first. Obviously her new requested dresses wouldn't be here yet, so she just grabbed one of her own dark gold dresses on, more like a marigold color. She then proceeded to do her hair, grab a matching pair of heels, brushed her teeth and finally headed out. Of course she took the elivator, mostly because she was in heels and wasn't going to deal with that, and arrived at the arena and leaned on the back of a chair in the back area and waited just like everyone else her with a cheerful happiness about her.
The last entrance duels had been completed, however Vincent wasn't really intent on keeping his eye on them while they where going on. It wasn't really that interesting, there was yawns coming from others in the crowd, Vincent guess others where tired or worn thoroughly after their match's, who could blame them, some put on grand theatrics. Others fought down to the wire. Vincent thought back to his match, was he a bit overzealous with the overkill of summoning Lightpulsar when he already had blue eyes? Perhaps or perhaps not. Either way he felt guilty for the anguish he caused. Oh well he would have to rectify it some other time, as doing it now would never be a good idea and then the announcement came.
Grabbing his large camping backpack he hauled it onto his pack, praying that it didn't snag on his dual disk and rip his arm off. Soon he was carrying the burden of a backpack on his shoulders as people where continuing to fill out to the lobby for the Formal introduction, Probably meeting whoever ran the school, Vincent wondered who it would be. Never the less Vincent followed the crowd of people making their way to the lobby, which had been dimmed by blinds, with a spotlight highlighting the stage, and out was wheeled the headmaster.
The headmaster then began talking about the standard pep talk. It felt good to hear the old man who properly had a ton of experience under his belt, talk in such a manner screamed euthanasia, but what happened next was unexpected, the withered old man literally stood up and with a childlike cry he told the entirety of the new years to believe in the Heart of the Cards, Vincent didn't believe in it just like that, He was taught by his parents to believe in every individual card, not just the whole deck but Heart of the cards also works, After that remarkable little feat by the old man, the same bored teacher from before took his spot on the stage. Reading out the names of everyone and what rank they had been placed in. The Earth names where read out first, Vincent's name wasn't called. He nodded in approval as being in Earth wouldn't really be a good thing. Next the Wind names where read out, and again Vincent's name wasn't called, It took him a few moments to figure out what that meant for him, He widened his eyes in anticipation and stared at the guy. The Light names where read out, with obvious changes in peoples names, a bit insulting but creative either. Who cared Vincent was in the top tier, And what got him there? his cards of course, and his strategical thinking plus his will to win.
Now that all the names had been called out, people began ferrying out to their dorm rooms, down the elevator or stairs they went, Vincent somewhere among them. He entered the light portion of underground floor and started to look for his room. It took a few minutes certainly but he soon found the name on the door. Not a moment too soon as his Backpack was beginning to hurt. Pushing open the door he made his way inside, and took a look at his surroundings.
It was a well furnished room no doubt about that, plus it was the best room on offer to the first years of the Duel Tower, A large almost welcoming bed was neatly made, and Vincent placed his Campers backpack on it as he inspected the entirety of his room. It had a large dresser which was nice Vincent also put his duel disk on it after removing the deck in it and placing it beside the placed duel disk, It had a form on it which Vincent would take a look at after he had unpacked, Which took a about 15 minutes or so, because His campers backpack contained so many books. Each one a encyclopedia on different types of aspects of dual monsters, which he put in a pile beside his bed before stowing his backpack underneath the bed, as he took his clothes to put in the wardrobe,. Opening it Vincent took a look inside his wardrobe since he didn't really pack many clothes for himself, in fact he might have been a bit foolish packing so many revision related books instead of clothes but he could make do, neither the less the uniform was a bit to light a shade of yellow but otherwise it was good, Vincent put his personal clothes inside before turning to face his dresser.
Vincent closed the wardrobe and turned towards his desk to inspect the form, wondering what it was his eyes reading the text on the paper. So it was a request form and it said that he could request up to 6 items to have a constant supply of. Vincent began to think hard. What would he really need, 'a really fast laptop' would be a great thing to have so he noted that down as his first item. With one down five to go, Vincent easily filled in the next three. 'Mints, Empty boxes built to store cards, Oh and a Infinite supply of stationary'. Yet he still he had two options left, and he already filled in the stuff he really needed. Guess he could use the last to for personal enjoyment. It was obvious what he wanted for his personal needs 'a desk fan' for those really hot days or nights, oh and a 'personal printer that came with free ink refills'. Writing in the last item Vincent put the form aside, and changed into his cotton pajamas decorated with little Dual monsters like Outstanding Dog Marron and Buster Blader. It was a cool little set of pajamas. Vincent folded his clothes and placed them under his bed as he hopped in for a dreaming session and a good amount of shut eye.
Vincent's dream was a magnificent one, he was riding on the back of his Lightpulsar dragon, his fingers outstretched towards the stars as he rode alongside his Dragons in the vacuum of space, each one was a magnificent beast of pure muscle and beauty. Some moved with grace, others with a great ferocity. Vincent was smiling and laughing, it was a pure wonder to behold such beasts they looked so imposing up close and he was riding one of them. He rode them for what seemed like minutes, before his Lightpulsar dragon roared!
Vincent woke with a start already forgetting what he had dreamed about, he heard the announcement to gather at Arena B1. "But its too early" Vincent said with a yawn but it fell on deaf ears, the speaker system was one way after all. Vincent couldn't deny the fact that he was annoyed but neither the less he quickly changed into a new pair of clothes, Black business suit like trousers while wearing the uniform, but only the shirt which had the symbol for Light emblazoned on the breast pocket, and he really didn't feel like wearing the blazer. Grabbing his deck and duel disk, Vincent headed for the arena, waiting outside of the elevator for it to come down. He really didn't want to take a flight of stairs after just waking up. It finally came after what seemed like an eon, and Vincent went inside along with a few other students and the elevator went up to the floor of the arena, Vincent leaving the elevator, went a took a seat that had both sides vacant, he looked really lonely but in actual fact he was probably deep in thought, or annoyance due to be being woken up so early.
Arriving from what seemed like no-where, Floyd just lazed around the tower in various locations, seemingly to find somewhere comfortable enough to nap. His relaxed attitude often, ironically, led him to be curious about different locations and the potentiality that they offer, if only for his dormant necessities. One suitable place he discovered was a window in the shape of a large circle split into quarters by the borders; its sill was reasonably thick to the point where he could lay in it adequately. The unfortunate part was how the walls were too good at being walls, in that they just didn't provide any respite for the poor boy as they were too hard and strong. He supposed that this point was for the better, however, as it actually required him to move to find pillows. Whilst on his magnificent quest for a few cushions, the youth got out his collection of cards and went through them individually, making sure to be careful with each. He had grown fond of the Prediction Princesses that he had come to know and... acknowledge, yet Floyd felt a desire to build a new deck from the card packs he'd hope that he would accumulate. Two thoughts came to his mind immediately; Blackwings and plants. Of course, in his favourite video game of Pocket Creatures, the birds beat the plants, however in this case he decided to take the side of the underdog.
Finally, the impending realisation that there was an Introduction assembly dawned upon him - this was supplied by the lack of students littering the hallways. His quick feet carried him to the location just in time for him to sneak in and hear his dorm placement; as it turned out, he was not that late and there was another twenty minutes of waffling that wasted his time before at last, the headmaster had preached that he was in the Earth dorms. A tempestuous amount of accomplishment surged over Floyd, as he lacked the wit to realise that Earth was supposedly for the less academically bright. Nevertheless, he continued to feel as if he had won a marathon and climbed a mountain at the same time. In no hurry to go to his dorm, Floyd quickly sneaked a bite of toffee from his bag that he had sneaked into the academy through less-than decent ways. The deliciousness of such treats were more valuable to him than his own cards, as it turned out, but his act was not of malice - he just really enjoys sweet snacks. Unfortunately, not everybody shares this emotion, as one of the staff only needed a quick glance to discover the illegal contraband that had entered this school. It was as if it was all in slow motion, from the teacher's discovery, to his eyes widening and mouth opening, to Floyd realising this and finally to Floyd running away. How saddening, that his addiction had come to this.
"Hey, kid! You're not allowed that!" The teacher squawked as he chased in hot pursuit; it appeared as if he was one of the softer ones... Perhaps Floyd could get away from him? He decided to answer this question with another: Will the piece of toffee he just threw at him throw him off? He never found out the answer, as whilst looking back to throw the toffee, Floyd did not even allow himself to see the wet floor sign and ultimately, the wet floor. The fall came as gracefully as somebody falling should; not at all. The sudden squeaking sound that followed his slip was as threatening as a demonic chant to the boy, but the appearance of his feet so far off the ground was just the harbinger of his demise. A short sickness of motion imbalance was followed by a large thud, pain and blackness.
Waking up on top of a hospital bed made Floyd a winner at something; the first at blacking out from being chased by a teacher in the year. Such an accomplishment, however, was not one that he was going to flaunt, yet deep inside it still brought him some joy, as if he was an underachiever. The youth made an on-point descent from the bed by falling off of it, once again prominently displaying his clumsiness for everyone to gaze upon; sometimes he was glad that he was barely ever embarrassed, although spotting the doctor stifle a chuckle disconcerted him slightly. Before leaving the medical room, he quickly glanced at the time and discovered it to be only ten minutes after he fell, so he decided that it wasn't really that important to do the paper work and just wrote incomprehensible scribbles wherever he was forced to write. His escape from that fun-sized hospital meant that Floyd had now gained a lot of time to do nothing, which was perfect for him, because now he could nap. The youngling was able to steal some cushions from the janitor's supply closet as he was busy cleaning up some mucky water that was spilled from his mop bucket. Poor man, who could've done that? After finally completing the first quest he set himself, Floyd laid the cushions perfectly on the sill, carefully laid himself upon them and drifted away into blissful sleep.
That was, of course, until the obnoxious sound of an old man's voice woke him from his slumber, forcing upon Floyd the slight dread that he was still not in his uniform. Despite this, he was forever more bothered by how rudely the announcement had been, as if he was standing in the street and someone had thrust a baby into his arms in hopes that he would look after it appropriately, except nothing like that at all. From all of the internal arguments he was having, all of Floyd's emotions abruptly decided to attend the special even in the B1 Arena, praying that he might get a few cards out of it. He at least hoped it would be quick, as he had other matters to attend to, such as more napping. The lighting in Arena B1 rivaled anywhere else in the school, at that moment; the brightness caught him off guard and caused him to squint to find seating, before finally the bleachers made themselves apparent. Placing himself upon a random location, he decided to have a short power nap until somebody else decided to speak.
Clementine, after somehow winning her first duel, had spoken with Hayato for a small period of time. After a short conversation, the two parted ways as Clementine searched for food. Unluckily, her search ended up as a fruitless labour and she ended up with an empty stomach. Luckily, she had brought some snacks in her small handbag. She ate the dry and old snacks with a small disdain for the taste, but was content with having food.
Clementine relaxed for the next hour or so. Her boring solitude was cut short by the loud speakers projecting an old man's voice. "Come to the lobby." The voice said. Clementine, somewhat bored of her solitude, went to the lobby with the other students. There she saw the old man. The old man was rather... old. He gave a formal (which was rather informal) introduction and said things about believing in the heart of the cards. Clementine didn't really care about this. She didn't believe in the heart of the cards. She believed in Evilswarm Exciton Knight.
Next came the man who gave out the card packs. He obviously didn't want to be there. Clementine listened to the room assignments and learned that she got into the Wind dormitories. She was perfectly average in her dueling ability, so it was rather fitting that she got into Wind.
Once the introduction came to a conclusion, Clementine left for her room. It was, well, empty. She saw the form on her dresser and thought of what she wanted. She thought for a brief period before writing "Life-Sized Inflatable Statue of Evilswarm Exciton Knight". In the next spot, she wrote "Megaphone". In the third and fourth spot, she wrote "Karaoke Machine" and "Mixtapes from the '80s", respectively. She really didn't know what she wanted, to be honest. She just wanted to have fun. It didn't really matter then, though. She was tired and needed to sleep.
She took off her clothes and put on her pajamas, which were one of the few things she brought with her, and got ready for bed. 20 minutes of brushing her teeth and other assorted bedtime necessities later, she fell asleep.
Then came the noise.
Oh lord, the noise.
Clementine woke up to the blaring speakers in her room. It hurt her ears. She wasn't prepared for that. After a 2 minute daze, she finally realized what the voice in the speakers said. "Come to the Arena B1". Clementine tiredly and confusingly grabbed her uniform which she only saw now and wandered around the tower before coming to Arena B1. She was late (but so were most of the other students) and she took a seat next to some sort of ninja and an unfamiliar power napper.
Double Trouble
In the center of the arena lay a man who had his face turned away from the bleachers where all the students sat. He appeared to be lying on the floor of the arena. After a brief silence, the man quickly leapt up, spinning multiple times. Lights in the arena quickly turned off and a spotlight came on him. Everyone stood there confused. It appeared as if every single staff member had some sort of easy-to-identify personality and physical trait that allowed them to be easily distinguished from each other so any omniscient viewer of this story could easily tell them apart.
"Greetings, students." The man said, his voice smooth and sultry. "Today we shall be playing a game." He said with emphasis on the word game. "Please look under the bleachers for the rules." As some students looked under the bleacher, they noticed that there was absolutely nothing underneath the bleachers. "As you can see, there's nothing there, but in your hands are the rules." The students would have now noticed that there was a pamphlet put into their hands by some mysterious force of magic. "Thank you, thank you, thank you very mu-"
His self-praise was cut short by a loud twang, followed by a thud, and then proceeded by an "Ow". The lights turned back on, revealing multiple people wearing thin black bodysuits above them, suspended by strings. Most of them were still holding small amounts of pamphlets, except for the one who's string broke. His pamphlets were all around the floor where he fell. Men in white medical scrubs ran through the door into the arena and carried the man out. The men above slowly went back up to the roof and disappeared into the night (morning?) darkness.
"Just... Just read the rules" The teacher said, his voice no longer smooth and sultry.
Two Headed King Rex is a duel where 2 duelists face 2 duelists.
Players on the same team take their turn at the same time.
Each player can normal summon once per turn
They can't tribute each other's cards, but they can destroy them with various card effects
Players start with 8000 life and share their life points with their teammate.
A player can attack either player directly if they currently control no monsters.
The strange teacher spoke once more. "Teams are Michelle and Hayato vs Vincent and Haas, Yin and Floyd vs Venwyn and Ethel, Megan and Clementine vs Juan and Shauna. Winners get a free booster pack. Losers get 3 random cards."
He quickly ran off, embarrassed at his failure, leaving the children to duel.
Hayate listened to the announcement, bothered by the fact that she was wearing her pink PJ's and kinda forgot her Duel Disk. He decided to look for the other contestants for his tag duel while taking out one one of her mom's supposedly portable mini Duel Disk, no matter how long she looked at it. It didnt really look like one, but Hayate decided to activate it to see if it was real or not. To her surprise, on the press of the button, the strange device attached to his arm and became a Duel Disk perfectly mimicking the one he had on the academy.
"Well, thats my Duel Disk, but now my voice changer... I can't get on without my voice changer," Hayate thought to himself but he realised that Haas was one of the opponents he had and stupidly tried to call out to him, "Haas!" quickly realising what his voice sounds like now. However, he decided to continue anyways, noticing Haas and just decided to go with it. He didnt have a chance in a long time to actually be a girl.
Scratching the back of his head as he read the rules, Haas couldn't help but realize how great this'd be if he got someone who also had an Xyz based deck. They'd be able to pull off so many good summons in just one turn! Quickly jogging around the perimeter, Haas called out: "Vincent! Vincent Gulfus? You there?" It was at this point that he was regretting not paying attention to the other placement matches...but sleep was more important anyways.
"...Huh?" he said out loud as he turned his head to where the somewhat familiar voice had come from. Walking over, he looked around before finding...Hayato. He...thought. Looking over to the...girl? He heard call out to him. Looking them up and down, he said: "Hey...Hayato."
"Hello~ Haas-sama," Hayato greeted Haas not realizing he isn't acting like Hayato, quickly looking at her strange Duel Disk then looking back at Haas.
Blinking a few times, he lifted an eyebrow. Had Hayato always sounded like that? "So...didn't get a chance to change before the announcement?" he asked, wondering if he was still asleep himself.
"Old habit... parents always told me to go downstairs as fast as possible, so I didn't get changed. I also forgot my Duel Disk," Hayate said, having slightly tried to make herself sound more like Hayato.
"Ah." Is all Haas says. "There's no way that was his normal voice... he's faking it..." he thought to himself. Suddenly realizing it, he adds, "Well, looks like we're going to be up against each other in the first round. Here's to a good game." as he extends his hand for a hand-shake, a smile now present on his face.
"Same here," Hayato said accepting the handshake "I went to look for you because you ARE my opponent, you are a more familiar face after all." Hayato took out a red crane. "You have it?" she asked pointing at the crane
Nodding, he removed the red-crane from his pants-pocket, which had amazingly barely been crinkled. "Yeah. I gotta find a place to put it later though... it'll get squished like this. What about it?" he asked.
"Just checking. It's a shame if it'd get thrown away; tons of paper gets wasted like that. IN ANY CASE! We should look for our partners," Hayato struggled with keeping her voice as male as possible accidently saying it to Haas. "I wish I had my voice changer right now," Hayato said, then quickly put her hands over her mouth.
"...Ohhhh..." Haas says, suddenly leaning closer, looking his face over. "...I get it now. You're..." he snapped his fingers. "Insecure about your voice!" he said, before going back to where he was before, nodding and crossing his arms. "I get it...it's alright if a guy sounds manly and wears pink pajamas, but they'd pick on you if you had a higher voice. Don't worry, secret's safe with me." he says. "...Even I'm not that stupid." he thought, figuring it'd be for the best to lie and let Hayato save face either way.
"WHY SO CLOSE!?" Hayato quickly yelled, ignoring most of Haas's obvious lies. Quickly shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Hayato asked, "Shouldn't we go looking for our tag partners now?" Hayato also asked if she could go grab her stuff back in her dorm. "You know I need to wear my uniform before anything right?"
Hayato ran away as fast as she could to grab her stuff and come back.
After Michelle finished reading the pamphlet, she began wandering around in search of her partner and opponents. It was a bit of an issue, as she had next to no idea who they were, or even what they looked like. However, she did hear some people calling out "Haas" and "Vincent", so she assumed they were close by. It took a bit of time, but Michelle eventually found two people, one of which began running away. Staring at the running girl for a moment before moving her gaze to the boy, Michelle asked, "So, what's your name? Haas? Or Vincent?"
A quick nod was the first response Haas had, followed up with: "Haas. I take it you're Michelle then?" which was fairly easy for him to deduce, given that nobody really would care to know who he was, save for his opponents. That, and she obviously wasn't Hayato.
Michelle nodded, saying, "That would be me." Turning around, Michelle asked, "I take it the one who just left was my partner? She certainly didn't look like someone who would be named Vincent."
A slight nod was also Haas' answer, before he suddenly realized that he KINDA had to cover for Hayato, for reasons he didn't fully understand. "Well...uh...You see....Hayato's just err...effeminate. Yeah. That's the word for it." he tried to lie, honestly kind of stumped by how stupid it would be to keep this secret when the guy was wearing the girliest pajamas imaginable, and had such a high voice.
"I see," Michelle said, clearly not convinced by the answer. "Well, in any case, she better come back."
Honestly Vincent was only ticked off by the stunt the teacher had pulled in order to be mysterious; seemed like a small waste of his time, but the event probably would be fun. Opening his pamphlet with curiosity, Vincents eyes gazed at the text, so it was basically a tag team Duel against another tag team. Although it had a few special rules that made it different from a regular tag team match, essentially combining 2 players into 1. Vincent liked the idea, but he didn't know if his pairing with a person he had never met would result in a win. Since his deck revolved so heavily around filling the Graveyard for his stronger monsters, and it said in the rules that you couldn't use the other player's Grave unless it spefically states. There goes his idea of awesome. Oh well.
Nevertheless, Vincent thought he heard his name. Honestly, it was probably just someone checking over the matchings, so Vincent didn't look up. He reread the rules a few more times in order to get them stuck in his head before standing up. Looking around he wondered who the hell this "Haas" person was. A sneaking suspicion in his mind that he may have ignored them. "Hey, who's Haas?" Vincent shouted across the room, perhaps a little loudly. He began walking along the seats looking for the guy.
Hayato arrived at his dorm room, noticing there were 2 uniforms rather than one, probably due to the fact that the headmaster probably know the truth behind her, but nontheless, she had already screwed up twice, revealing her gender even though Haas said it was being insecure about his voice. Honestly, though, that lie was as easy to spot as a rainbow in the sky. She put on the male uniform to prevent more people getting suspicious though, putting on the lame mask her parents gave her that replicated a male duelist, equipping her neck accessory, and, for the hell of it, also taking the fake sword she liked to clip onto "Hayato's" belt. "This is probably the only cute thing I have... a plastic samurai sword complete with sheath," she said as she turned on the voice changer. "Hayate, what are you saying... it's awesome," she roleplayed a little in her dorm room pretending to be "Hayato." She ran back to the arena as fast as she could, somehow hearing a guy yell, "Hey, whos Haas?" on the way down. Taking one of the other entrances, Hayato ran into the guy who called out, knocking him over. Despite being a girl, she was just as tall as a average boy of her age
Vincent had literally only been walking for a few moments before he had been knocked over. with a yell he fell on his back, a little painfully he might add. looking up at the person who knocked him over Vincent got to his feet a person from the Earth dorms. It seemed like some of his cards had fallen out of his duel disk onto the floor. He made it his priority to collect them up first before turning to confront the person whom had taken one of his cards. "whats the big idea knocking someone over like that?" Vincent questioned the person opposite him.
Hayato picked up one of the cards recognizing it from the placement duels. "Hmm, a Blue-Eyes White Dragon... you must be Vincent then. You get knocked over if you cross paths with people in a rush to find his partner," Hayato said, handing the card back to the man in front of him
Vincent took back the card that was handed to him, It was his Blue-Eyes, carefully he put it back into the deck, mouthing a apology to his card.
"Your Partner Haas is looking for you," Hayato said to the person he presumed was Vincent, not even tempted to apologize because Hayate believes it doesn't fit Hayato's character. "Oh yeah, the name is Hayato." Hayato looked around the place where she ran off and noticed Haas wasnt there. "I presume you haven't seen Haas or Michelle?"
"Haven't seen either of them Hayato" Vincent said something naggin' him about Hayato's hands, but he brushed it off. What was the point of thinking about someone's hands when you have to defeat said person in a duel? Honestly though, he felt that something was off. "So, I am gonna be fighting you Hayato. What deck do you play?" Vincent asked.
"Six Samurai," Hayato answered bluntly. "You didn't see the disappointing match I was in," Hayato said with regret, realizing too late he could have won if he played his cards instead of waiting for a better card.
"Did you see my match?" Vincent asked, still wondering about why Hayatos hands seemed off to him. "If you did, then you probably know that my deck is a Chaos deck, ruler of Light and Dark, you know the drill." Vincent continued. "Although I still feel guilty about the fact that I overkilled my opponent."
"Yeah I did... in any case, we should look for out partners... oh yeah take this..." Hayato pulled out a small red paper crane decorated with a few gems. "It's to mark our meeting, or in Haas's case, a mark of friendship," Hayato couldnt resist just handing them out. He had made a huge number of them... nobody would find out that the small gems in the cranes are worth at least $100 a piece. Certainly a work of art as they would say, not that Hayato thinks they are.
"It's just a paper crane. No thanks, I prefer my friendships to not be based on material worth, at all." Vincent said, though perhaps it might have been a good idea to accept the crane, but personally, he prefered to not take gifts from strangers unless he could give them something in return. Even so, the hand thing was wearing away at his mind nagging for him to figure it out.
"Maybe next time then, what about this. if i win you take the crane. if i lose i'll crush my entire collection of them" Hayato set putting up a huge gamble but he wouldnt crush all of them because that would hurt
"Nah, don't do that. Instead, if you lose, I don't have to take the crane, since crushing your collection would be a large waste of time," Vincent said, although he only really wanted to know why he was so dang intrigued by the guy's hands.
"I was mostly joking, but yeah, maybe we'll be friends one day," Hayato said to Vincent. After a short while, Hayato noticed Vincent was fixated on his hands and decided to just reveal his secret "All i can say, is that I hope this damn voice changer would last at least untill I'm ready to confront my parents with what I want to do... I mean I don't hate my parents but they need to accept the fact that girls can duel as well... and some of the other duelists have shown that..." Hayato started to explain how her father was a duelist who always thought strong duelists should be men and a girl can't represent his family name and followed her explaination by switched off her voice changer to say 6 words in her own voice, "i want to duel as myself" then switched it back on "i remember seeing Haas standing over there" he pointed at the exit he originally left at
Vincent was kinda shocked at the reveal but it also explained why he found 'hayato's' hands weird, Hayato was a girl trying to prove to their parents that females could duel but until then had to pose as a man, weird but it made sense if given thought. "Yea I won't tell anyone, keep doing what your doing until you think your ready." Vincent said as he walked over to the exit He had pointed him to.
Hayato followed the young man who had already moved ahead "just because i saw him there doesnt mean he is there"
"But its more likely that hes close to there" Vincent said in response to Hayato. "Hey Haas!" Vincent said when he was standing at a the exit. "Are you there?"
Hearing his name be called, Haas wanted to get away from the lady who knew Hayato's secret identity ASAP, and quickly started jogging in place. "Anywho, gottagocyalaterhaveagoodgamebye!" he said as he speeded away to whoever had called his name, presumably Vincent. Or a desperate groupie. Nope, probably Vincent.
Noticing a guy coming towards him. Vincent called out to him. "Hey are you Haas by any chance?" Vincent quizzed his mind wondering how the selection process worked. Never the less he wondered what type of Deck Haas would have.
Spinning around promptly to see whoever had asked that, he nods. "Yup. That'd be me. I take it you're Vincent then? Nice to meet you." he states, before extending his hand for a handshake. "Had a heck of a time trying to find you."
Vincent accepted the handshake from Haas. "Likewise I had a heck of a time finding you as well." Vincent said with a grin before continuing "Alright so we are teamed up for this event so. What deck do you use?" Vincent said with a interest as he hadn't really watched any entry duels.
Haas figured that it'd be a bad idea to just outright call it out and decided to play a bit of charades, in the sense of making a "Shush" motion by placing his index finger over his own lips, before drawing a card from his deck, showing it to Vincent. It was Wind-Up Honeybee. Withdrawing the card and putting it back in his deck, he says: "I don't know if we're going to have much synergy, but I'll do my best partner."
"That's all I will ask from you, is do your best. Plus I think pretty much everyone knows What deck I have" Vincent said with a frown on his face as he showed Haas his Lightpulsar Dragon before returning it ontop of his deck. "now then lets win this event and get that reward" Vincent said with almost childlike glee.
"Roger." Haas said in response to figuring out what deck Vincent had, giving him a thumbs up. Shuffling his deck took only a moment, before he put it back in, not that it mattered. Duel disks had autoshuffling anyways, but hey, it was reflexive at this point. Taking a deep breath, Haas hopped up and down a few times before relaxing, a smile tearing at his lips. "I won't slow you down, Partner." is all he says as he readies his duel disk, visibly excited to have a tag duel so soon.
"I hope you realize that I'm still here," Michelle said suddenly, who was behind Haas the entire time.
Haas started sweating bullets, slowly turning his head at an almost 180 degree angle. "O-Oh...hi there...D-Didn't see you there..."
Vincent only just noticed the female behind Haas when she spoke up. "I am gonna take a guess here and say, are you Michelle?" Vincent asked..
"Yes. Yes I am," Michelle replied. "And you must be Vincent. All we need now is for my parber to return and we can get started."
Hayato stood there, just casually waving at her supposed partner. "Err... hope you didnt err... see my uh... sister run away there" in a way Hayato wasnt lying she had a twin sister but she wasnt into duelling as much as she was. Hayato approached the group still attempting to hide her secret whenever possible
"Alright so since we are all present now, when do we start?" Vincent said clutching his Duel Disk in anticipation of a duel
Haas stared blankly at Hayato as he arrived. "There's more bullshit there than in the fields Uncle Hanz runs. he thought.
Hayato noticing Haas's behaviour instinctively countered by taking out a photo of his sister, asking "Will you believe me when you see this?" Both kids on the photo were holding decks. "I really have a twin sister."
Haas was sweating bullets again. "BUT SHE CALLED ME BY NAME!" he mentally screamed, wanting to bang his head against a wall, fortunately for the walls, they were well beyond his reach. "A-Anyways...let's get this started. How do you want to decide who goes first?" he asked.
Michelle didn't really care about what was going on. It was plain as could be that Hayato was hiding something, and that Haas was in on it, but as long as Hayato could Duel well, that was all that mattered. "I don't really care. Do what you want," Michelle said.
"Hm, so Hayato has a twin sister, huh," Vincent thought. He knew she was lying about it being her twin sister who ran off though, but he kept his mouth shut."I say we do a coin flip," Vincent suggested to whom would go first
Hayato chuckled. "I got something better," Hayato said, taking out a small digital device. "Its a simple thing my mom made. Maybe it's just a bit too simplistic... all it does is randomly select from P1 and P2... we could use that if you want," Hayato scratched his head and looked at his Duel Disk.
"I say we dibs Player One, Haas" Vincent said eager to start the Tag Duel and let his dragons take flight again, his eyes glancing at the contraption with such glee. He almost looked as if he might burst from the lust for battle he had begun to have.
Haas decided to go along with Vincent's idea of taking P1, saying: "Sure." But as he looked at Vincent, more cold sweat started pouring from his pores. Why was everyone so HYPED UP FOR THIS?
"I'll be Player 2 then. Also... Haas, snap of it," Hayato said to Haas, lightly bonking him on the head with his plastic sword. "It's Duel time, buddy."
Barely reacting to the plastic sword, Haas simply said: "I got it, I got it..."
"Here goes..." Hayato grabbed the device and placed it on the ground in between Haas and himself. Not surprising Hayato, a 2 field appeared under both Haas and Hayato with a card going back and forth with the card stopping on Haas's side topping it off with some digital confetti. "Yeah you two go first. Whatever, this thing is boring. Its just some random lightshow," Hayato said, picking it up and once again activating his Duel Disk, walking to the arena in question ahead of the group. Hayato was tempted to take off his mask so he can just duel as Hayate since 2/3 people already know his secret anyways, which Hayato ended up wanting to do, since nobody would really be watching the duel to the point of trying to recognise her gender.
Haas readied his Duel Disk once they all arrived at their designated Dueling spot, and regained his composure after the horrifying confetti event just happened. "You ready, Vincent?"
Vincent activated his Duel Disk after it was decided that he and Haas would be going first. As such, he began following Hayato to the arena where they would Duel. His mind was eager to get back in the saddle of being the commander of an army.
Michelle followed the others and activated her Duel Disk once everyone was in their designated location. After the blade formed on her Duel Disk, Michelle said, "Let's get to it."
Upon arriving to the arena, Hayato took off the weird mask and switched off her voice changer.
"Alright, let's start this off strong." Vincent said as he drew his first 5 cards from his deck and glanced over each one individual to try and come up with what to start with.
Haas did the same, drawing his starting five. Not the best, but he could make do for now if he got the chance. "Vincent, you go ahead. I need to think this over," he said, trying to piece together what he could accomplish with his hand.
"Fine, I shall," Vincent began before placing one of his cards on the monster zone. "I Set one monster face down," Vincent said as a card was formed on the field, its back facing upwards but what was underneath was hidden from prying eyes.
Haas took that as his cue to use his own Normal Summon, doing the same. "Set." he says, setting another face-down card beside the one Vincent placed. Looking over the rest of his hand, he said: "I guess we'll end it there."
"Draw," Michelle said as she drew her next card. A good card, too.
"Draw!" Hayato exclaimed when she drew her card. Not too useful, but a card nonetheless.
Instantly placing down one card by habit, "I activate Shien's Do- wait do you want to go first?" Hayate asked Michelle.
"I don't mind, but leave some time for me before we enter the Battle Phase," Michelle replied.
"Roger!" Hayate responded placing down Shien's Dojo "And then I place 2 cards facedown. My side is done, Michy!" calling out a nickname for her partner.
"Don't call me Michy," Michelle said, glaring at Hayate before returning her attention to the Duel. "By discarding Hecatrice from my hand, I can add the Spell card: Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen from my deck to my hand!" Michelle explained, taking the card from her deck and playing it onto the field. Soon after, a giant hall with red curtains rose out of the ground behind Michelle and Hayate. "If I control no monsters, I can Special Summon one Fairy-type monster from my hand, and I choose Airknight Parshath!" The centaur warrior quickly appeared on the field, ready for battle.
Airknight Parshath - Level 5, ATK 1900
"Next I Summon Bountiful Artemis in Attack mode!" Michelle continued, a white angel with a purple cape appearing on the field.
Bountiful Artemis - Level 4, ATK 1600
"Battle Phase! Airknight Parshath, attack the monster Haas Set!" Michelle commanded, the centaur warrior charging towards the face-down card.
Haas' card flipped up to reveal a cartoonish hyena, scrambling to get back under the card before it was destroyed.
Hyena - Level 3, DEF 300
Airknight Parshath pierced the Hyena with his sword before it could escape, shattering it to pieces. "When Airknight Parshath attacks a Defense mode monster, he deals piercing battle damage!" Michelle explained.
Vincent & Haas - 8000 LP --> 6400 LP
Grunting as the damage was dealt, Haas says: "When Hyena is destroyed by battle, I can Special Summon another one straight from my deck." as a card literally pushed itself out of the deck. Taking it, he Special Summoned the Hyena in defense mode, the cowardly animal visibly shaking in the presence of Parshath.
Hyena - Level 3, DEF 300
"When Airknight Parshath deals Battle Damage, I can also draw 1 card," Michelle said, drawing a new card.
Vincent watched his lifepoints go down by 1600; it was a little brutal the way Parshath killed the hyena.
"Only applies to you right? I don't really understand these rules that well," Hayate asked, scratching her head.
"I would assume so. I've never actually used this in a Tag Duel before," Michelle replied. "Moving on. Bountiful Artemis, destroy the second Hyena!"
Hyena number 2 scrambled to get out of the way, sweating bullets as it was easily outpaced.
After the next monster was destroyed, Michelle gave her next move a second's thought. There was only one slot left in the Spell/Trap zone, which Michelle preferred to keep open in case of having Normal Spell cards to activate. She looked at her hand, then decided to trust that her partner's 2 face-downs would offer support. "You have anything else to do? Otherwise, I'll end the turn," Michelle said.
"After that calamity, I draw." Vincent said as he drew his card from the deck.
Haas did the same, drawing his card. "...Well dang, that's both Hyena's gone."
"I kinda feel bad for them," Hayate said for no reason, directed at Haas.
"Alright, I think I just drew a godsend," Vincent said his eyes lighting up with a firey light. "First I shall Flip Summon, Mystic Tomato!" Vincent yelled as a rotten looking tomato with a evil grin appeared on his side of the field.
Mystic Tomato - Level 4, ATK 1400
"I shall next Summon The Paladin with a divine call to arms, I Summon Jain, the Lightsworn Paladin!" Vincent yelled as the white haired paladin appeared on his side of the field.
Jain, the Lightsworn Paladin - Level 4, ATK 1800
"Haas, do you have anything you need to do before I attack?" Vincent asked
Nodding, Haas calls out: "I Normal Summon Dogu in Attack mode!" as a large, human-sized clay doll emerged, a light whistling emenating from its head, its head spinning independantly from its body.
Dogu - Level 4, ATK 1900
"I don't know what you've got planned Vincent, but I got a feeling you have a good idea. Battle Phase is yours," he says, giving him a thumbs up.
"Okay, first, Mystic Tomato, attack Bountiful Artemis!" Vincent shouted as the Tomato charged head first only to be destroyed by Artemis. Their Life Points went down.
Vincent & Haas - 6400 LP --> 6200 LP
"Using Mystic Tomato's effect, I can Special Summon one monster from my deck with 1500 or less ATK," Vincent said as a purplish portal appeared on his side of the field as something crawled out. It was a wizened old man. "I Summon Summoner Monk in Defense Position!" Vincent yelled. "And now Jain, attack Parshath, and due to his effect his attack raises to 2100!"
The two monsters exchanged swords, but Jain ultimately triumphed and slashed through Airknight Parshath's body, destroying him.
Michelle and Hayate - 8000 LP --> 7800 LP
"Now then Haas, if you may please destroy Artemis" Vincent asked politely
Haas nods enthusiastically, before calling out: "Dogu, take down that Artemis!" At his command, the clay doll rose in the air and started spinning HYPER MENACINGLY towards Artemis, destroying it as well.
Michelle and Hayate - 7800 LP --> 7500 LP
"Haas, if you would do the honors of using Monk's effect," Vincent said with almost dramatic emphasis.
Haas smiled and said: "With pleasure!" as he gave a slight bow. This was getting fun. "I'll discard my Card-Shuffle from my hand in order to use Summoner Monk's effect!" he calls out, as a portal opens up, another monster shooting out. Which was...another Summoner Monk in Defense position.
Summoner Monk - Level 4, DEF 1600
"Alright, I now discard Book of Moon to activate the 2nd Monk's effect,"Vincent said as he sent Book of Moon to the Grave. Another Portal opened up on their side of the field as another monster shot out. Landing on their side of the field was a imp creature "I Special Summon Snipe Hunter in Attack position" Vincent said with almost childlike glee "And now I activate its effect by discarding ECLIPSE WYVERN!" Vincent said as Eclipse Wyvern flew out of his hand and into a dark portal dragging with it Lightpulsar dragon "Using its effect I banish Lightpulsar Dragon," Vincent said with a roar. "And now Snipe Hunter shall roll the dice of fate," Vincent said as a giant holographic dice appeared above his head. It rolled slowly crashing down bumping once bumping dice and with a thud it landed. Face up on the dice was a 4, meaning that Snipe hunter's effect was active. "Because the Dice landed on a 4, I can destroy 1 card, and the card I choose is VALHALLA!" Vincent said as Snipe hunter took aim and destroyed the card.
Snipe Hunter - Level 4, ATK 1500
Michelle grimaced as Valhalla was destroyed. Now she didn't have a means to Special Summon monsters. Mentally, she blamed Hayate for not having anything to aid her. It was a Tag Duel, for goodness' sake.
"Next I shall set one card and end my turn" Vincent said with a grin. And Jains effect activated sending the top 2 cards from his deck to the grave
Hayate called out, "It's our turn, and I Draw" Hayate drew with a passion pulling out a card from her deck "Gotcha! So did you get anything good?" Hayate asked her partner.
"Not particularly," Michelle replied. "Right now, though, we have bigger things to worry about. They have 2 Summoner Monks, and a Snipe Hunter, all of which are dangerous. Our main objective should be getting rid of those monsters first."
"I activate Dark Hole!" Hayate called out placing the card on the disk "Michelle you have anything to follow up?"
"I'll admit, that wasn't bad," Michelle said as a black hole appeared above the field, sucking in all the monsters on the field into it. "Unless you have some monsters, I'll move on with my turn."
"Next I have nothing because I still have my dumb hand, but I think I will at least activate The A.Forces" Flipping the card face-up, Hayato said, "All yours."
"Very well then, I discard Zeradias, Herald of Heaven to add the Field Spell: Sanctuary in the Sky from my deck to my hand," Michelle said, taking the card from her deck and placing it in the Field Spell slot. Immediately, the area around them transformed, the ground becoming a seemingly endless sight of cloud, and a giant white temple appearing behind Michelle and Hayate. "Next, because I have 4 Fairy-type monsters in my Grave, I can Special Summon Archlord Kristya to the field!" Michelle explained, a white-haired angel with red wings descending down onto the field.
Archlord Kristya - Level 8, ATK 2800
"When Archlord Kristya is Special Summoned using this effect, I add one Fairy-type monster from my Graveyard to my hand, and I choose Bountiful Artemis," Michelle said, adding the card to her hand. "As long as Archlord Kristya is on the field, none of us can Special Summon monsters," Michelle explained. "Battle Phase! Archlord Kristya, attack them directly!" Michelle commanded, the fairy rushing forward to attack.
Vincent & Haas - 6200 LP --> 3400 LP
Tensing up, Haas covered his eyes as Kristya almost halved their life points, worst of all was that they couldn't Special Summon. "Damn... this is bad..."
"I place 1 card face-down and end my turn," Michelle said.
"Because Dogu was destroyed by a card effect, I can add one monster that is a different level from any we control, or that we have in the Grave," he says, removng his deck from the Disk, and looking through his options. Quickly picking one, he says: "I'll add Wind-Up Honeybee from my deck to my hand." before slotting his deck back in, the autoshuffler activating.
"This...might be it. Draw!" Haas says, somewhat worried by the archangel of big and fucking denying Special Summoning.
"Draw" Vincent says his eyes staring at the Dark Armed Dragon he had drawn. It currently was a dead weight in his bloody hand because of Archlord middlefinger.
Cursing himself, he says: "Vincent...sorry, this is all I can manage. I Normal Summon Wind-Up Kitten!" he says, placing the tiny robotic cat in attack mode.
Wind-Up Kitten - Level 2, ATK 800
"Next I'll..." then it hit him. "I...use Wind-Up kitten's effect to bounce Kristya back to your hand." he says, realizing that this was all he could do. He'd probably just screwed them over, putting out such a weak monster.
Kristya was back in Michelle's hand now, and that meant Special Summoning was open again. Perhaps they would get lucky and none of them had anything to Special Summon, but Michelle could tell that that wouldn't be the case at all.
Vincent watched the Kitten get rid of the largest threat on the board. "That was a life saver Haas, now allow me to return the favor," Vincent said with a devilish smile. Black lightning crashed down around him almost as it had the intent to destroy him but not a single stroke of that lightning touched him. Vincent thought he might as well say something for this occasion. "Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust. Let Light be consumed by Dark as darkness rips open a void to a new equnoix. From the void he rises a lord of the abyss. I Special Summon Dark Armed Dragon in Attack position." Vincent cried as he finished the chant. In response a massive gateway opened up on the floor in front of him as a giant dragon crawled its way out
Haas stared in awe of big papa coming into play. Shit was hype. And also, he was a tinge scared of the giant dragon literally made of weapons.
In response of the giant dragon Hayate threw her plastic sword at it in panic hitting whoever was standing behind it.
Dark Armed Dragon - Level 7, ATK 2800
Vincent got smacked in the arm by the plastic sword that was thrown at him his face a little shocked as he clutched his arm that was now stinging for a few moments before settling back to how it was although a little bit more wide eyed . "Now then I activate Dark Armed Dragon's effect," Vincent said calmly. "I destroy both your set cards by Banishing 2 Dark monsters from my Grave." as 2 purplish balls of light came out of his grave and entered Dark Armed Dragon's maw and was fired at the face down cards.
Michelle's Dark Bribe and Hayate's Kusakani Magatama were destroyed without a trace left behind
"And now I shall attack you directly with Dark Armed Dragon, Abyss Flare!" Vincent yelled his grin returning to his face. As the Dark Armed Dragon launched a volly of purple fireballs.
Michelle and Hayate - 7500 LP --> 5700 LP
"Now Haas do you want to attack?" Vincent asked
"HECK YEAH! GO GET 'IM KITTY!" he says, as the cat struts over and baps both of their opponents on the legs.
Michelle and Hayate - 5700 LP --> 4900 LP
"Now to finish off I set one monster face down and end my turn," Vincent said his hand now empty.
Turn 6: Michelle and Hayate Vincent & Haas: 3400 LP, 0 cards / 3 cards, 3 Mon, 1 S/T Michelle and Hayate: 4900 LP, 4 cards / 4 cards, 0 Mon, 1 S/T, 1 Field Spell
"Draw," Michelle said, drawing her next card. "Hayato, do you have any monsters to Summon this time?"
Drawing her next card she had nothing to say except, "I suppose I do, but it's not great." she said after realizing what just happened
"I summon the Legendary Six Samurai Kizan and to follow this up I Special Summon Grandmaster of the Six Samurai" Quickly placing 3 cards in quick succesion with a proud look on her face
Legendary Six Samurai Kizan - Level 4, ATK 1800
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai - Level 5, ATK 2100
"I activate Burst Breath," Vincent said. "By Tributing my D.A.D., I can destroy all of your Six Samurai cards," Vincent said as DAD exploded.
"Aw..." Hayate responded disappointed instantly dropping all her enthusiasm "I thought I had something going there, but Shien's dojo does gain 2 counters."
Hayate stopped right in her tracks untill she came up with an idea "I use my shien's dojo's effect to special summon shien's foot soldier" taking out her deck and looking for the card placing on the duel as the doors shined with old samurai music coming out of the dojo and the door opens revealing a small spear wielding monkey which then walked out of the dojo "... well I didnt expect the effect to be that amazing" Hayate said surprised of the result
Shien's footsoldier - Level 2, ATK 700 + 200
"You got anything better than this little monkey dude?" asked her partner
"I Summon Shining Angel in Attack mode," Michelle said, and an angel with 4 yellow wings appeared on the field.
Shining Angel - Level 4, ATK 1400
Hayate poked Michelle "say you think you can destroy my card? i had a plan but its kinda ruining it" Hayate asked shortly after she realised that The A. Forces was ruining her plan
Ignoring Hayate, Michelle continued, "I also play a Spell card: Photon Lead. This allows me to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower LIGHT monster from my hand in Attack position, and I Summon my Bountiful Artemis."
Bountiful Artemis - Level 4, ATK 1600
"Battle Phase! Shining Angel, destroy Wind-Up Kitten!" Michelle commanded, the angel rushing over to destroy the little toy.
"WAIT! maybe the- nevermind" Hayate was a little too late to attack with the foot soldier first
Kitten mewled and tried to scatter away Tom & Jerry style, but only wound up falling flat on its face.
Vincent & Haas - 3400 LP --> 2800 LP
"According to the rules, if a Tag Partner does not control any monsters, I can attack that person directly!" Michelle explained. "So, Bountiful Artemis, attack Haas directly!"
Vincent & Haas - 2800 LP --> 1200 LP
Haas clutched his stomach as Artemis attacked. One more and that was it. And worst of all, there was nothing he could do.
"Damn you," Vincent said annoyed as he had literally shot himself in the foot half a dozen times
"Hayato, your monster doesn't have enough ATK to end this, but it might as well attack anyway.
"I suppose I will. Um, go little monkey dude." Hayate commanded, looking confused at the little monkey hopping on Haas's head and hitting him on the head with the wrong end of the spear
"...Of all the ways to lose, I never expected to get a face-full of monkey to be the way to go." Haas says, mildly annoyed by the chimp poking him.
"So, if you have anything else to do, do it now, or the turn ends," Michelle said to Hayato.
Hayate silently set a card and nodded still speechless of the monkey's attack.
"Ok, turn end," Michelle ended.
Turn 7: Vincent & Haas Vincent & Haas: 300 LP, 1 cards / 4 cards, 1 Mon, 0 S/T Michelle and Hayate: 4900 LP, 1 cards / 0 cards, 3 Mon, 1 S/T, 1 Field Spell
Haas looked over to Vincent somewhat nervously. This was already almost beyond hope, and if Vincent didn't have some masterplan, they were boned. "If you need space, use it now. All I have is stuff for walling."
"I Draw" Vincent said as he drew his next card staring at it he had the widest grin he had ever had. "I Banish Eclipse from my Graveyard and Dark Armed Dragon, to Special Summon Darkflare Dragon In ATK!" Vincent said with a cry that was sounded awfully desperate considering the circumstances. "And now, since I banished Eclipse I can add Lightpulsar Dragon to my hand, who I can also Special Summon into Attack position by banishing Jain and Summoner monk." Vincent said before beginning another summoning chant albeit a short one. "Light and darkness form into chaos, and from chaos births a new power, Come Forth!" Vincent said as his dragons appeared through a black and white rift above him, both roaring magnificently. Vincent turned to Haas "Got anything you wanna do before I go on a killing spree" Vincent asked?
Lightpulsar Dragon - Level 6, ATK 2500
Darkflare Dragon - Level 5, ATK 2400
Haas sighs deeply, simply setting one monster face down in defense position and saying: "I activate the spell card: Zenmailfunction. With it, I can Special Summon Wind-Up Kitten back to my field in face-up Defense position, but its effect is negated, and I can't Tribute it or Synchro with it." After his explanation, Kitten returned, simply sitting by him, idly cleaning itself.
"Alright I attack both of your Fairy-types with my Dark Flare and Lightpulsar dragon, but due to the field spell, sadly, you take no damage," Vincent said as Darkflare and lightpulsar obliterated the 2 fairys.
After both monsters were destroyed, Michelle said, "I activate the effect of my Shining Angel. When it's destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon 1 LIGHT-type monster with 1500 or less ATK from my deck in Attack position, and I choose my Squire Parshath."
Squire Parshath - Level 1, ATK 100
"Sadly I end my turn, and I think I know what comes next," Vincent said with a frown.
Turn 8: Michelle and Hayate Vincent & Haas: 300 LP, 0 cards / 3 cards, 3 Mon, 0 S/T Michelle and Hayate: 4900 LP, 2 cards / 1 cards, 2 Mon, 1 S/T, 1 Field Spell
"Draw," Michelle said, drawing her next card. "Draw" Hayate said, Drawing her card
"I summon Legendary Six Samurai kizan and activate my facedown cunning of the six samurai and Special Summon Grandmaster of the six samurai" Hayate has a satisfying smile on her face "Anything else?"
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai - Level 5, ATK 2100
"I Summon Gellenduo in Attack position," Michelle said, the two little creatures appearing from the ground.
Gellenduo - Level 4, ATK 1700
"Using my Squire Parshath's effect, I change the Level of my Gellenduo from 4 to 7," Michelle explained.
Gellenduo - Level 4 --> Level 7
"Now, I Tune my Level 7 Gellenduo with my Level 1 Squipre Parshath!" Michelle said, the two monsters transforming into 7 stars and 1 green ring, respectively. Doing so, Michelle felt the urge to say something. "With your light of justice, all will submit! Strike them down, Avenging Knight Parshath!" Michelle chanted, the brilliantly shining angel descending onto the field.
Avenging Knight Parshath - Level 8, ATK 2600
"I see the light and it burns the eyes to see, it shall take me to my death." Vincent murmured almost poetically.
"Makes me wish the monkey could do the final blow" Hayate joked at Vincent.
"I activate the effect of Avenging Knight Parshath! Once per turn, I can force a face-up monster my opponent controls to change Battle positions, and I choose the Wind-Up Kitten!" Michelle said. "Hey Hayato, go ahead and end this."
Hayate looked at the field and her monkey and decided, "I will attack Haas's monster with The Grandmaster" Declaring combat preffering to finish it on a serious note rather than a strange one
Vincent watched as the Grandmaster decapitated the Ktty. His Dragons letting out a scream of frustration as they tried to charge at the Grandmaster but disappeared into particles before they even got halfway
Haas groaned and held his head in his hands."Dammit...we lost because of me..." he says, knowing full well that was all because he used Zenmailfunction.
Vincent & Haas - 300 LP --> 0 LP
WINNERS: Hyate and Michelle
"That was a great game" Vincent said a little annoyed at the fact he had lost but nothing major because the fight was literally amazing.
Haas nods and regains his composure. "Yeah. You guys did amazingly well. I really thought we had you when we had the two monks high-fiving." he says, extending his left hand for a hand-shake.
Hayate picked up her mask "yeah it was also sorry I tried to lie about running away..." Hayato said taking out a set of Red cranes decorated with a few gems "Vincent you sure you don't want it?" denying Haas's offered handshake saying "i prefer hugs over hand shakes, you want one?" not waiting for any answer Hayate decided to hug both Vincent and Haas without warning after hearing the answer of Vincent
Michelle sighed, then said, "Well, that's that. I don't care who you are, Hayato, but as long as you can Duel well, that's all that matters." She then took the handshake of friendship.
"So What now?" Vincent asked before shaking Haas hand. After a match like that, could you really go your seperate ways and pretend like you never meet these people? Jeez, Haas's deck actually worked well with his to a point. His two opponents were both remarkable in their own right. "Sure I'll take the red crane for now." Vincent said with a respecting tone, after all she had beat him. Then the sudden hug caused him to be at a lose for words.
Haas shrugs. "Dunno. Well, since we lost, we still get three random cards. I guess...we could do something. I dunno. We could get something to eat-" he offered, just after the handshake, but was interrupted by the sudden hug. Blinking a few times, he simply chuckled and patted Hayate's back. "I'll take it."
Hayate looked at the groups response "Food? I'll pay if thats the case" Hayate looked at her Duel Disk and took it off instantly turning into a small stick-like device. "Mom made this. She's weird... it was even modeled after the academy's Duel Disk, is that against the rules?"
"I don't know if its against the rules or not" Vincent said a little puzzled by the technology and why she would need to bring such things, neither the less his mind was still on the duel, but food sounded real good right now. "If you could get us some food, that would be amazing." Vincent said.
"I don't mind," Michelle said.
Haas shrugs. "I got cash. Anybody know if there's any good shops or cafeterias around here for food?"
Hayato thinks for a moment. "We could look around," Hayate decided to pick up the objects she threw in panic "The big dragon was a little scary"
"How could you be scared of simple Solid Vision?" Michelle asked.
"I apologize for that," Vincent said."I didn't know what came over me when I used it." Vincent mumbled a little. He thought back to when he used Dark armed dragon and the lightning did that usually happen? Probably.
Haas chuckled a bit at the banter over the holograms and solid vision. "Well, I didn't really take getting a monkey to the face well. Besides, not like anybody got hurt anyhow." he says. "Except that direct blow from Michelle hurt my pride..." he thought, looking at his deck. "So...I wonder why they decided to hold this so early in the morning. I mean...its not like it was anything special. Just an organized dueling event."
"Hurt my pride as well Haas, hurt my pride as well, and you bring up a good point what the hell was the point in this entire event. Even so the upside of it was that I met 3 new people with such potential," Vincent said happily.
"Could be to make us interact with each other" Hayate gave them her own thoughts about it as well "hey Michy you want a red crane as well?" accidently throwing out the nickname asking if she wanted one
Once the nickname "Michy" was thrown out, an evil aura seemed to radiate from Michelle. "I thought I told you not to call me that," Michelle said with a menacing tone in her voice, while also taking a crane.
"Eep! I GOT A WEAPON STAY AWAY!" Hayate slowly stepped back swinging her plastic sword back in forth in panic hiding behind one of the 2 guys
Vincent pulled his arms up in a surrendering stance "I surrender" he said. Even if he was good at card games he heavily doubted his skills in fisticuffs to the highest degree, and yet Hayate was hiding behind him.
Haas stared blankly at the scene unfolding, just kind of...staring. With the most blank possible look in his eyes. "W-Well, on the bright side of all this, even though we lost, we'll still get those three cards. Maybe they'll even be rare ones."
Stepping back to avoid the sword, Michelle sighed, then said, "Ok, let's go about our business and meet again later." On that note, Michelle walked away to watch the remaining Duels from the stands.
Hayate nodded resheathing the plastic sword and decided to follow the guys on their routine after putting on her mask again.
"Alright Haas you going too? or do you wanna sit together and jest at the other people and their matches?" Vincent asked Haas questioningly
Haas hums. "I guess I'll kill some time. So, think events like these are the usual thing?"
"Probably I don't really know" Vincent responded to Haas's questioning of if the events here were commonplace.
Taking a seat, Haas opted to leave the conversation there, since it wasn't like they'd have much to discuss until someone else started their King Rex tag duel.
Vincent sat next to Haas, his mind running brisk with possibility on how to the else the duel could of gone. turning back to the arenas he watched the remaining duels from the stand.
Hayato silently sat next to Vincent without any sound other than the barely audible sound of the voice changer turning on.
Dark Hole is god tier, and Kitten held out for as long as he could. Both sides had great summoning plays, and it was pretty close up until we learned that we could attack players who had no monsters on board instantly. Haas lost the game for Vincent like a total scrub.
It was another day, and that meant another Duel. Venwyn listened to the announcement as it happened. The lights had turned off, but he could still see fairly well in spite of it - as shown in his previous escapade with Transformer. He didn't comment on the bodysuited men, it was far from magical to him. Instead, he quickly skimmed over the rules of the event in time for the teacher to announce the teams. He was teamed up Ethel, the particularly volatile student that went from quiet to explosive in her last duel.
Upon the teacher's departure, the other students would find that Venwyn was already sitting down on the field of the arena, waiting for everyone else who would be a part of Duel to arrive. When he had actually moved onto the field was a mystery.
Ethel just stared at the ridiculous show unfolding before her, but decided to play along still. The pamphlet being put into Ethel's hand, though, surprised her just a little. Discovering where it came from turned out to be easier than expected. Somehow, everyone seemed to screw up their performance at the exact same time and the whole show fell apart, causing that previously energetic teacher to just give up in defeat. Ethel looked over the rules in her hands now... Seemed to be a simple tag duel, though she didn't know who her partner was due to not having paid attention. That issue got resolved quickly, though, as they seemed to appear out of nowhere on the playing field.
Ethel decided to make her way there as well, rising up from her seat. The pony-tailed boy she sat next to had seemingly left already for their own arena... The girl made her way through the crowd gracefully and stepped on the field without any sign of the anger she showed the day before.
Yin had been standing in the back, leaning against the wall. For one it was just more like her, two she didn't want to sit down and risk falling asleep again, though she did seem more rested than most of these people so that was a plus. Unfortunately since she wasn't sitting down this meant she got left out from the screwed up trick, which was actually quite amusing to see. However once the nonsense had ended and the teams were announced Yin walked towards the arena and grabbed some random guy's pamphlet and read the rules quickly. She didn't like the fact that her life points would be tied to someone else's though, that part kind of sucked. As Yin approached the field she threw the pamphlet over her shoulder at another random kid as her feet finally hit the arena. Her opponents didn't seem all too impressive. She was up against the girl who lost in seven turns, though she was facing a douche bag, in her defense. The second one clearly needed a reality check though. Quite frankly Yin could care less that the guy appeared on the field before the lights were turned on, nor the fact that he dressed differently. Quite frankly so did she. The one thing that was really off about this guy, was that hair. In any event all they were waiting on now was her own teammate.
Of course, dozing off just briefly after learning where his duel would be, the rules and who his partner was must have been both fortunate and unfortunate, but hopefully none of the three would mind his lack of availability. Somehow, plastic chairs provided him with the comfort of sleep which is genuinely surprising, however gaining the knowledge just prior to his slumber could be seen as lucky as he had discovered online that learning stuff before you sleep somehow makes you remember it easier. In any case, he stumbled down the stairs and decided to go into a gentle jog down them after tripping slightly - trying to make it look purposeful. At the bottom of his descent, he located the area in which the duel he was partaking in was designated and strolled over to the other three, before muttering a small apology through his timidness. He sat down next to a girl that had an atmosphere of hostility and intimidation, giving him a sense of discomfort and alertness; this could, in all fairness, be what he needs to succeed in a duel.
"Hey." It was a half mumbled, extremely tired, voice that decided to break the silence.
Ethel was staring off into space for a while, not really all that bothered by the time lost when the fourth member of this duel wasn't deciding to show up. It was actually only when they themselves said something that the girl had noticed the other arrived. "Oh... Hello..." Floyd's quiet voice was matched by yet another silent one, that of Ethel's. "Is that everyone, then...?"
Yin frowned at Floyd clearly a bit displeased. "Well I suppose we are all here. Shall we get this done and over with then?" At this point Yin had looked back at her opponents her voice clearly stating how unhappy she was with the current situation as she backed up to her position and activated her Duel Disk.
Turn 1: Floyd & Yin Floyd 8000 LP, 5 cards in hand Yin 8000 LP, 5 cards in hand Venwyn 8000 LP, 5 cards in hand Ethel 8000 LP, 5 cards in hand
Floyd was first in the duel, holding his five cards so close to his face that it covered both his mouth and nose. He quickly decided that the first course of action would be to activate Pot of Duality. The three cards revealed by the effect were Black Cat-astrophe, Mirror Force and Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands. "Hm." Floyd would never pass up the opportunity of destruction and decided to choose Mirror Force. Next, he set a monster and one card and gestured that he had finished his acts.
Yin looked over at her teammate and sighed. She wasn't sure of anything he was doing let alone what his deck held. In that case she'd have to play it carefully until she figured it out. "First off I'm going to play Armed Dragon LV3, followed by setting one card face down. That'll be it for us this turn it would seem." Yin really hated this situation of getting paired with some random person, but it couldn't be helped.
Turn 2: Venwyn & Ethel Floyd 8000 LP, 3 cards in hand, 1 Set Monster, 1 S/T Yin 8000 LP, 3 cards in hand, 1 Monster, 1 S/T Venwyn 8000 LP, 6 cards in hand Ethel 8000 LP, 6 cards in hand
Ethel drew her first five cards, fanning them out. Afterwards she let out a faint "Draw." signalling the turn having started. One of the cards caught the bluenette's eye, and it wasn't in a good way. Why oh why did she have to draw that again...? She shot a glance at Venwyn, hoping he'd have some better luck. "You make your move first..."
"Alright," Venwyn said. He outstretched his arm once more as his Duel Disk came to life, unfolding and setting itself with a few clicks, just as it had in his last duel. He drew his cards in addition to the sixth one. He smiled briefly towards Ethel. He was somewhat happy with what he had drawn.
"I place a face down monster, and two face down cards." He announced, performing the actions as he called them.
"Continue." The boy said bluntly, urging Ethel to proceed.
"...I set two cards, one a monster. That'll be it for our turn then...?" Ethel asked Venwyn, unsure.
Venwyn nodded in response.
Turn 3: Floyd & Yin Floyd 8000 LP, 4 cards in hand, 1 Set Monster, 1 S/T Yin 8000 LP, 4 cards in hand, 1 Monster, 1 S/T Venwyn 8000 LP, 3 cards in hand, 1 Set Monster, 2 S/T Ethel 8000 LP, 4 cards in hand, 1 Set Monster, 1 S/T
The boy made a chirpy smile at his partner, signifying his positivity towards their chances of succeeding. Drawing one card, he analysed the battlefield and his choices. "Choices, choices. I'll wait for you, in case you wanna make your dragon bigger." He was a polite person, only rushing when he was exceptionally eager.
"Pervert." "...Pervert."
Yin had to smile for once. So she hadn't been paired with a complete amateur, the guy actually knew some stuff that was good. "Excellent, in that case I'll draw, and then in the standby phase my LV3 Armed Dragon disappears, and transforms into the mighty Armed Dragon LV5!" Yin dramatically raised her arm out as the monster transformed into the much larger, and spikier Armed Dragon LV5.
Floyd was delighted at the arrival of the large monster, however once more he decided to wait before playing. "Wanna activate his effect or am I in the all clear to do my stuff?" Of course, it was all he could do to ignore the comments about his wording.
Yin giggled a bit "Just let me play this little nifty card known as Nobleman of Crossout first. And I think I'll be using it on your monster." Yin pointed towards Venwyn. "So that not only doesn't activate any flip effects, it also removes your face down monster from the game. Now back to you partner.
The monster removed from play was Ghostrick Jiangshi.
Floyd nodded in response. That act had actually shifted how he was going to play his turn, only making it slightly easier to make a decision on what he was going to do. "Alright, I'll play... Er, actually I'll set another monster and that's pretty much it for me." Of course, it only looked like he was stalling by just setting cards, but there was a method to his madness and he could only help but hope that his partner understood that.
Yin raised an eyebrow slightly. Her partner wasn't very offensive, but that could mean many things. Hopefully he would pull through for her in the end. "In that case, next I'll set one Monster of my own, and now I'll have my Armed Dragon LV5 attack Venwyn directly!"
"Hand effect." Venwyn said, revealing the Ghostrick Lantern in his hand.
"I can negate your attack, and special summon the Lantern in face down defense position." As he said this, a face down monster card appeared on the field. The dragon had also stopped in its tracks.
Yin rolled her eyes. "Fine if that's the case I'll end my turn."
"I'm quite finished as well, for now." Floyd nodded towards the enemy team.
Turn 4: Venwyn & Ethel Floyd 8000 LP, 3 cards in hand, 2 Set Monsters, 1 S/T Yin 8000 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 (1 Set) Monsters, 1 S/T Venwyn 8000 LP, 3 cards in hand, 1 Set Monster, 2 S/T Ethel 8000 LP, 5 cards in hand, 1 Set Monster, 1 S/T
Ethel looked at the card she drew, clicking her tongue as she did. This wasn't going well at all, and this draw didn't help that. "I set another monster." Another horizontal, face-down card appeared on Ehtel's field and she looked over at Venwyn. If he was observant it'd be noticeable Ethel was actually slightly biting her lip, though she tries to hide it.
Venwyn drew a card. Looking at it bore little reaction from him. He instead focused on his current face down monster. The young ninja clicked his fingers, and the monster card flipped itself over, revealing the Ghostrick Lantern. The creature flew out of the now-face-up card on the field, sticking a spectral tongue out at Venwyn's opponents.
Ghostrick Lantern 800 ATK/0 DEF * DARK Fiend
"I will now summon a second Lantern." With that, a second Ghostrick Lantern was now on the field. There were now two spectral tongues being stuck at Yin and Floyd. Venwyn chuckled.
"Now, I'm going to Xyz summon a monster. But first," Venwyn glanced over to Floyd's face down card. "Mystical Space Typhoon." Venwyn raised his hand, and one of his face down cards revealed itself to be.
A heavy whirlwind appeared over Floyd's face down card, destroying it.
"Before we say our goodnights to my set card, let me first activate it." Floyd flipped over the card to reveal it to be Ring of Destruction. "I target one o' your Lanterns. Sorry, Yin, but both us and them take damage."
"Hand effect." Venwyn revealed another one of his cards: Ghostrick Specter.
"When a Ghostrick Monster is destroyed, I can special summon Ghostrick Specter in face-down defense position and draw a card." A face-down card materialized on the spot where Ghostrick Lantern once was, and Venwyn drew a card.
"Booooo." It was both pun and an act of showing his negative attitude towards this.
The ninja frowned due to the low-tier puns.
"I'll place a face down card, and wait." He said, signalling to Ethel to continue.
"...Then we'll end our turn." Ethel bit her lip just a tad harder. Everything was disrupted now.
Turn 5: Floyd & Yin Floyd 7200 LP, 4 cards in hand, 2 Set Monsters, 0 S/T Yin 7200 LP, 3 cards in hand, 2 (1 Set) Monsters, 1 S/T Venwyn 7200 LP, 1 cards in hand, 2 Set Monster, 2 S/T Ethel 7200 LP, 4 cards in hand, 2 Set Monsters, 1 S/T
Finally, damage had been done. The youthful boy was quite gleeful with the card he had obtained and promptly decided to wait once more for his comrade. "Leveling up, again?"
Yin was grateful, but she sighed. "Sadly they decided not to include anything past level five in this deck. However," Yin drew her card. "I will be placing this card face down." Yin inserted the card in the respective place. "Hmmm I suppose I'll leave it at that for now, unless I wanna do something off of your moves." Yin giggled. This duel was highly relaxed, not very intense, but that was kinda nice for once.
"Firstly, I would like to flip summon my Prediction Princess Arrowsylph, allowing me to add one ritual spell card from my deck or graveyard to my hand 'cause of her effect." Floyd quickly skimmed through his deck, before coming across Prediction Ritual. After showing it to his opponents, he added the card to his hand and placed the deck back in his duel disk. "Next, I'll set another monster and another card." Even though he felt slightly bad for taking up most of their field with his monsters, he had a plan for them yet. "You got anything to do, Yin?"
"Not for now I suppose. Guessing you won't be attacking this turn? Considering your field?" Yin guessed.
"Nah, your right, Arrowsylph's not exactly built for attacking many monsters." Floyd sighed slightly, partially disgruntled at how he could not do much more. "I'm done for this turn, then."
Yin frowned. It definitely wasn't the ideal conditions, and without Floyd's monster being able to attack there wasn't much that they could do this turn. "Fine, I guess we're done with our turn then." Yin was clearly unsatisfied with this turn, but things couldn't be helped when in a tag duel.
Turn 6: Venwyn & Ethel Floyd 7200 LP, 3 cards in hand, 3 (2 Set) Monsters, 1 S/T Yin 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 (1 Set) Monsters, 2 S/T Venwyn 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 Set Monster, 2 S/T Ethel 7200 LP, 5 cards in hand, 2 Set Monsters, 1 S/T
Aside from drawing the inconsequential draw, Venwyn began his turn by flipping up both of his face down monsters.
Ghostrick Lantern 800 ATK/0 DEF * DARK Fiend
Ghostrick Specter 600 ATK/0 DEF * DARK Fiend
"Xyz summoning," Venwyn announced. The two cards on the field overlaid each other and a black card appeared on the field. There was a flash of light, and from the card rose out the Ghostrick Dullahan, complete with horse neighs and some kind of opera screaming in the background.
Ghostrick Dullahan 1000 ATK/0 DEF Rank * DARK Fiend/Xyz/Effect
"And again."
As quickly as the creature had arrived, it disappeared once again. Another black card appeared on the pile of monsters on the field. This time, there was an insufferable giggling as the Ghostrick Angel materialized, floating above the card calmly.
Ghostrick Angel of Mischief 2000 ATK/ 2500 DEF Rank *** DARK Fairy/Xyz/Effect
"I'll then activate her effect, allowing me to add a Ghostrick Spell or Trap card to my hand. Ghostrick Mansion." Venwyn explained, retrieving Ghostrick Mansion and immediately placing it onto the field.
There was a rumbling on the arena, and a eerie and spooky mansion erected itself from the ground around all four duelists. Spectral wisps and childlike laughter could be both seen and heard, respectively.
"Swords of Conealing Light," Venwyn said, placing the new spell card onto the field. Several glowingly dark blades phased into existence over the field of the opposing duo, the pressure of which caused the atmosphere around to darken, and caused the monster cards to forcefully flip face-down. The Ghostrick Angel clapped at the trick. Venwyn stared at the other, darkened side of the field.
"Continue," the boy said.
Ethel's already pale face was only getting paler. The entire time Venwyn had been playing she'd just been staring at the cards in her hand, unsure... Without even announcing it a monster was again put face-down on the field, softly "...end..." being murmured from her side.
Turn 7: Floyd & Yin Floyd 7200 LP, 4 cards in hand, 3 (3 Set) Monsters, 1 S/T Yin 7200 LP, 3 cards in hand, 2 (2 Set) Monsters, 3 S/T Venwyn 7200 LP, 1 card in hand, 1 Monster (Xyz, 3 Material), 3 S/T, 1 Field Spell Ethel 7200 LP, 4 cards in hand, 3 Set Monsters, 1 S/T
Drawing his card, Floyd almost laughed with excitement. The previous turn had left him with little chance of being able to do much, not that he had already. "I'd prefer if our monsters were not kept in defense position, thank you very much." Quickly, he played the Mystical Space Typhoon and almost giggled. "I target your Swords of Concealing Light!" The card was destroyed with ease, it seemed, placing a smile on Floyd's face. "I'm about to do a bunch of stuff in a second, if all goes well, so do you wanna do what you want to first?" He gestured to his partner.
Yin drew her card and switched her Armed Dragon LV5 back to attack position and then nodded at Floyd to continue.
The boy breathed in slightly, gaining air for what he was about to say. "Firstly, I flip summon Prediction Princess Petalelf, making your petty Angel go to defense position."
He began to shake his fists eagerly, before finally making the act he had built up to, praying that he wouldn't be stopped. "Now, I flip summon my other monster, Prediction Princess Astromorrigan. All of your defense position monsters will be destroyed at the end of our turn, and for each once destroyed, you would normally lose 500 points. Since that dumb Mansion is there, you only take 250 for them."
He breathed out, exhausted. "I'm done for the main phase, how about you?"
"I think I'll place another card face down first and then we can move on to the next phase if you like?" Yin said almost as if teasing the opponents.
"The battle phase?" Floyd smiled.
"Oh why not, you think I could activate a lovely trap card though now that we're in our battle phase?" Yin was beginning to enjoy this just a bit too much at this point.
"Sure, dude, go ahead and do what you like!" He made a thumbs up at the girl.
"Well in that case." Yin waved her arm a bit eccentrically as her trap card came up. "I play the trap known as Ceasefire! This means all facedown monsters are flipped face up, and on top of that for every effect monster on the field you both lose five hundred life points!" Yin flipped over her Twin Headed Behemoth. "Oh and fun fact, sorry by the way Floyd, no flip effects are activated by being flipped over by this card. Also thanks to his card that saves them 250 lifepoints each, but in the end they'll still lose more than enough life points."
"It's alright, I already got one Ritual spell card out of her." Arrowsylph reappeared once more in defense position. "I suppose their only saving grace is that we're not attacking, but to be fair that's even worse."
Ethel stared with wide eyes as the Ceasefire trap had opened and Yin so gracefully decided to give a totally not rubbing it in your face description of it. Gritting her teeth, the pale girl flipped all three of her monsters face-up with their bodies rising from the floor.

Yin giggled delightfully. "Back to you Floyd!:
He nodded with eagerness. "I'm about done, which means that the End phase is here and thus Astromorrigan's effect completes!" He snickered through a gritty smile, anticipating the monsters' end.
Ethel grimaced as all three of her monsters shatter into pixels, one by one. Now she couldn't even get the effect off of Tomato... Dammit! Her breathing got slightly more heavy, and Ethel's eyes glared straight through Floyd.
Floyd continued his smirk whilst the Angel of Mischief was also sent to the graveyard, sighing of relief after the realisation that Venwyn had not had that card.
Venwyn & Ethel LP 4950 > 3950
Turn 8: Venwyn & Ethel Floyd 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 3 Monsters, 1 S/T Yin 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 Monsters, 2 S/T Venwyn 3950 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 S/T, 1 Field Spell Ethel 3950 LP, 5 cards in hand, 1 S/T
Venwyn began the turn by drawing a card. The draw was somewhat okay. He placed a monster in face down defense position, a card appearing on the field as an indicator.
"Pot of Duality," Venwyn said, activating the card from the hand. He drew three cards, and systematically called their names.
"Ghostrick Break, Pot of Dichotomy and Tour Guide from the Underworld."
A loud, metal clanking sound cut off Venwyn as he listed off his cards. From the other side of the field, above Ethel, was a rotating spell card depicting a golden chalice.
"You." Ethel pointed at Floyd. "This card is spinning, and you tell it to stop. If it stops downwards you get two cards, if upwards I do. Now tell it to stop."
Floyd was severely confused by the abrupt action, but nonetheless he complied. After a few moments, he quickly uttered the word "Stop!".
A few more sounds rang out with each turn of the card, and when Floyd yelled for it to stop the counter stopped... Upwards. Ethel gained a smug smirk on her face, though a sinister undertone was able to be found. "Thank you. I now draw two cards." The pale girl's tone became louder and slightly more arrogant, two cards being swiped and quickly thrown into the hand.
Opposite to Ethel, the boy pouted with extreme distaste for the outcome; he partially blamed himself, in all fairness. "Eugh."
"Fate," Venwyn said, picking up the Tour Guide from the Underworld and adding it to his hand.
"Now I discard a card to activate another." Ethel slid another Spell card into the disk, this time it depicting a sword stabbing through two of the stars on a monster card. "Now until the end of our turn, monsters in my hand get their levels reduced by two. I now normal summon..." Throwing down another card onto the disk, gusts of wind got blown up from seemingly the floor, or more specifically a vortex that opened up in it. A golden, robotic bird flew up ready to lash out it's talons at anyone standing in the way. "Ally of Justice Clausolas."
Ally of Justice Clausolas ATK 2300 DEF 1200 Level 6(currently 4) DARK Machine
Ethel looked back over at Venwyn, who seemed to be able to do about as much as you'd expect right now. Absolutely nothing. Seems the girl had no choice but to fight her own battle for a short while. "Battle Phase." ...Though, truth be told, there wasn't much to capitalize on in the first place. "Clausolas... Go and kill that annoying pest Astromorrigan." A wicked smirk crept across Ethel's face as she declared the attack.
"OBJECTION!" It was one thing to declare an attack against him, but it was another to target one of his princesses. "I activate my trap card," Perhaps it was a waste for one monster, but Floyd was enraged by the lack of etiquette, "Mirror Force!". The card he had drawn with Pot of Duality now laid face up on the field, for the brief time it would be there.
"Tch..." Ethel clicked her tongue and broke her gaze from Floyd's field. This annoying little brat... Couldn't keep that to himself, now could he? "I set one more card in the second main phase, then we'll end." Clausolas went up in... Well, light, to be blunt, right before Ethel set her card.
Turn 9: Floyd & Yin Floyd 7200 LP, 3 cards in hand, 3 Monsters Yin 7200 LP, 3 cards in hand, 2 Monsters, 2 S/T Venwyn 3950 LP, 1 card in hand, 1 (Set) Monster, 2 S/T, 1 Field Spell Ethel 3950 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 S/T
Floyd began the turn by quickly drawing, yet it seemed the card he had drawn wasn't likely to further their chances of winning at that moment. "Hmm, I'll let you kick off the main phase, partner."
"In that case I think I'll draw my card obviously, but also I'll activate the trap known as Reckless Greed. This allows me to draw another two cards." Yin couldn't stop smiling. This game was too simple. It was overly relaxed, but yet it was still fun. "Next I'll play a card you all should be very familiar with, Nobleman of Crossout. I think you know what that means Venwyn." The smirk on Yin's face was far too noticeable too as Venwyn's only monster exploded. "Of course if it was a flip effect monster you also lose all copies of that card in your deck. Next I'll have to switch Behemoth into attack mode. Now back to you partner before we begin the battle phase."
Floyd shrugged. "I'll take the gamble of them having their own Mirror force," The youth swiftly switched Prediction Princess Arrowsylph into attack position. "I'm ready for the battle phase and since you have the strongest monster on our field, I'll give you the honors of beginning it."
"Why thank you! Now Armed Dragon LV5, Attack Venwyn directly!" Yin pointed straight for the oddly dressed man.
"Mirror Force." Venwyn said. Floyd's gamble was correct. A large spherical barrier appeared as the dragon attacked, destroying it and all other attack position monsters on Floyd and Yin's side of the field.
Floyd shrugged again, slightly disgruntled by making two mistakes.
"I think my Interdimensional Matter Transporter here will, sadly for you, be sending my Armed Dragon LV5-" Yin raised an eyebrow as the emo girl across the way interrupted her.
"Dark Bribe." A smug-looking merchant giving gold ornaments to some sort of king was depicted. "I negate your trap or spell, and you draw a card." Ethel's grin got more and more smug each second, knowing full well that that Armed Dragon was a big component to their strategy.
Yin drew her card and just smiled. "Very well. In that case I suppose we'll go into our second main phase and I'll set-" Yet again Yin was interrupted, by her partner this time.
Floyd attempted to stop her before she continued with her act. "It isn't wise to leave us open for attack, since even with set monsters Ghostrick mansion means they can still directly attack us."
"As I was saying, I'll set a card face down. Now would you like to do anything before we move into our end phase?" Yin glared at the boy for a moment.
Floyd sweated briefly and rubbed his neck, feeling guilty for jumping to conclusions. "Sorry... I'll set one card in my spell and trap zone and one monster. I'm done."
"Now in our end phase my Twin Headed Behemoth comes back which means we won't have all set monsters in defense mode anymore. Obviously he's being brought back in defense mode. Sadly however, he only has 1000 defense now, but that's fine. We're done for now." Yin once more gave Floyd a short glare before looking back at her field. She knew what she was doing, she didn't need this guy second guessing everything she did. She was in the Light dorm for a reason after all.
Turn 10: Venwyn & Ethel Floyd 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 (Set) Monster, 1 S/T Yin 7200 LP, 4 cards in hand, 1 Monsters, 1 S/T Venwyn 3950 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 S/T, 1 Field Spell Ethel 3950 LP, 3 cards in hand, 1 S/T
Venwyn drew yet another card, for another turn. Much like the last turn, he simply placed a monster in face down defense position before stopping and waiting.
Ethel drew and placed that third card in her hand, then took out the middle before sliding it into a S/T slot. "I'll use Autonomous Action Unit! Ngh...." A machine crawled out of the ground, two bolts of lightning being shot from both Venwyn and Ethel's chests at it. "By paying 1500 Lifepoints, I can take a monster from your graveyard as my own... And I'l choose your Armed Dragon LV5!"
The machine, which looked so messy that a proper description was hard to give to it, pulled out the dragon from Yin's graveyard and dug a few cables into it, letting the rotor blades on it swirl.
The blue haired one looked over to her side, to check on what Venwyn's doing. He'll probably have something by next turn, right...? She hopes so, at least.
"Battle Phase." Ethel declares. She lifted up one finger and pointed at Yin's field, Behemoth hovering over its horizontal card. "Armed Dragon, betray and kill Twin Headed Behemoth!"
"Not so fast." Floyd was desperate to make it up to his comrade and activated his face down. "Compulsory Evacuation Device - I'll use it on Armed Dragon." This duel was exhausting him.
Yin smirked at Ethel. "Better luck next time short stuff." Yin mocked as her card returned not only to her, but to her hand. She then gave her teammate a smile and nod to let him know he did good.
"Grrr..." Ethel started to grit her teeth in frustration again, the Armed Dragon de-materializing before it got to even start its attack. "End turn..."
Turn 11: Floyd & Yin Floyd 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 (Set) Monster Yin 7200 LP, 5 cards in hand, 1 Monsters, 1 S/T Venwyn 2450 LP, 1 cards in hand, 1 (Set) Monster, 1 S/T, 1 Field Spell Ethel 2450 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 S/T
Disappointed by his lack of draw, Floyd decided the best course of action would be to shrug it off. "I'll once again let you start the Main Phase." In all honesty, he didn't have much to do.
Yin nodded. Unfortunately the tag matches had it's draw backs, but she didn't have the worst hand so that was the good news. "First I'll sacrifice my Twin Headed Behemoth to summon my Armed Dragon LV5!" Yin swapped the cards and her dragon rose up once more. Yin then turned to Floyd. "Got anything?"
Floyd pouted. "Only slightly." He flipped his face down card into attack position, revealing it to be Prediction Princess Coinorma.
"Her effect activates, allowing me to special summon a level 3 or higher flip monster from my deck or hand in face down defense position, and I choose my other Coinorma!" She briefly appeared on the field before being set down. "I'm ready for the battle phase."
Yin once more smiled and nodded. "I'll let you go first this time."
"Alright, I'll target Ethel. Coinorma, attack!" He pointed at the girl who had so often gone against him this duel. The small princess lifted a giant golden doubloon from thin air and threw it over to her.
Ethel actually visibly flinched from a sudden GIANT coin being thrown at her. She held up her arms crossed, though since it was just a hologram the coin went through her and rolled onto the floor behind Ethel.
Venwyn chuckled at Ethel as she was hit with the giant coin. Then he stopped. Because he didn't want to get beaten up.
Venwyn & Ethel LP 2450 > 2050
"G-Ghostrick Mansion halves all battle damage not done by Ghostricks..." Once Ethel actually recovered from the shock of the atttack and lowered her arms, she explained the reason for the little loss... As if it needed explaining.
"True, but try this on for size, Armed Dragon LV5 attack Ethel directly!" Yin instantly retorted pointing at the small girl.
"Not this time!" She shouted in reply, quickly tapping one of the S/T buttons on the Duel Disk. A man blocking an explosion to the back was depicted on it. That very same man suddenly up and stumbled onto the battlefield, right up to Armed Dragon. The very same dragon looked hungry and gobbled up the small knight, completely forgetting about Ethel. "I take no damage, and get to draw one card from Defense Draw." Ethel picked up her card, hoping for something good.
Yin smiled. "Cute, but what will you do when I activate my Dragon's Rebirth? You know the one where I banish my Armed Dragon LV5 and then select this lovely Red-Eyes Black Dragon from my hand and special summon it?" Yin mockingly asked as she did exactly everything she had said. "Now let's try this again. Red-Eyes Black Dragon, attack Ethel directly!"
Venwyn waved his hand over the field, revealing his face down card; Book of Moon. A large book appeared and dropped onto the dragon, forcing it face-down.
Yin frowned sarcastically. "I guess that means we're going into our main phase two?" Yin turned to Floyd questioningly.
"Yep. Although, I've not got anything to do, so I'm alright for this turn." Floyd shrugged, showing dismay at his lack of actions.
"Alrighty then, next I'll reveal my Red-Eyes to you two as I sacrifice it. This activates the effect of my monster in my hand. If you saw my first duel you'll recognize this splendid creature. Now come forth Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon!" Yin threw her arm up as the monster appeared on the field roaring at pair across the field.
"Now then. Make your move." Yin crossed her arms smirking at Ethel.
Turn 12: Venwyn & Ethel Floyd 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 (1 Set) Monster Yin 7200 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 Monsters Venwyn 2050 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 (Set) Monster, 1 Field Spell Ethel 2050 LP, 4 cards in hand
"Draw!" Ethel declares, then immediately smacks the card she just drew onto the field. "I summon Dark Blade the Captain of the Evil World!" A hellish steed housing a knight donning the edgiest blackest and spikiest of armors, his blade having a menacing glint to them. Once they rode onto the field, Ethel glances over at Venwyn to see how he's holding up.
After drawing his card, Venwyn began to summon a monster. He placed a face up monster on the field.
"Tour Guide from the Underworld," He said.
"It allows me to special summon a level three monster. Night Assailant."
As he said this, another monster appeared.
"I'm xyz summoning now." Venwyn said as he overlaid the cards.
Another black card appeared atop the two monsters, and from it materialized Alucard. Venwyn detached an xyz material, allowing Ghostrick Alucard to destroy a set card on the field. He chose Floyd's face down monster. The vampire clicked its fingers, and cracks appeared on the face down card before it was shattered, destroying the monster.

After that, Venwyn flipped up his other face down card, Ghostrick Jiangshi, activating its effect to search monsters based upon how many Ghostricks were on the field. There were two, so Venwyn was able to search Ghostrick Mary, adding it to his hand.

As quickly as it had arrived, Jiangshi almost immediately turned face-down once more.
"...Battle Phase." Ethel declared. Somehow she got the feeling her partner wasn't going to do much more for this turn... The bluenette turned her head to Floyd, a wicked smirk creeping across her face. "You wouldn't let me attack before, now would you? But that's okay. I'll just kill everything now! Dark Blade, cut open Coinorma's throat!" The mounted knight rushed forward and grabbed Coinorma in full Gallop with its one free hand. Bringing it up to Floyd and stopping right before him, the last few moments were of Coinorma struggling helplessly while pleading to Floyd for help, just as soon as her throat got cut open.
Floyd gulped; his princess' innocent throat being sliced open before her being shattered into a million pieces. "Booooo."
Floyd & Yin LP 7200 > 6700
After that little display of violence Dark Blade took his place on the field again, Ethel's menacing smirk going away at around the same time. She glanced over to Venwyn, to see if he had anything to do.
"Alucard," Venwyn said, motioning to Floyd.
Venwyn's monster - the leader of the Ghostricks - responded. He casually walked over to the enemy side of the field, and kicked Floyd in the face. Of course, it didn't really have the same gravity or seriousness as Dark Blade's attack, but it's the thought that counts. The vampire then walked back to Venwyn and Ethel's side of the field, acting as if nothing had happened.
"Ow." He rubbed his face, despite not physically being harmed.
Floyd & Yin LP 6700 > 4900
"...We end our turn."
Turn 13: Floyd & Yin Floyd 4900 LP, 2 cards in hand Yin 4900 LP, 2 cards in hand, 1 Monsters Venwyn 2050 LP, 2 cards in hand, 2 (1 Set) Monsters, 1 Field Spell Ethel 2050 LP, 3 cards in hand, 1 Monster
"Draw phase skipped, straight to main phase." He nodded, this turn would most likely decide the outcome of the duel. "I'll start our Main Phase by summoning Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands in attack position."
Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands 1400 ATK 1000 DEF LIGHT Fairy
"I activate his effect to add one Prediction Princess Tarotrei to my hand." The card swiftly went from the deck to his other card in his hand.
Yin smiled and entered a card that activated instantly. "I activate the spell card known as Mind Control, and I'll be taking your Alucard." Yin pointed at Venwyn quite pleased with the way this duel had just turned out. "Next I'll use Alucard's effect to blow up your last monster." Once more Yin pointed at Venwyn's side as his monster cracked and shattered. Yin then turned to Floyd. "Anything else before we end this?"
Once more, he shrugged. Yin had pretty much done most of the work to enable a victory in sight, so he simply followed her whilst she lead them to glory. "I'm all set." Now, into the Battle Phase they went. "Firstly, I'll allow Manju to attack Venwyn directly!" The monster strutted over in an aimless fashion before swiping at the boy with five thousand of his ten thousand hands.
Venwyn & Ethel LP 2050 > 1350
Ethel shot a quick look at the partner on the other side. What the hell was he doing? Didn't he have anything to stop this?!
Yin smiled delightfully as she rose her hand up slowly and dramatically to taunt Ethel, who clearly lacked the anger management classes she so desperately needed. "I think now it's time I end this." She slowly let her arm fall down pointing at Venwyn. "End this Darkness Dragon!" To respond the dragon began charging up a dark ball of energy which it shot forth at Venwyn to end this duel.
"Do something!" Ethel yelled at Venwyn while the ball of energy was still charging, going into a mild panic. None of the cards in her hand would change ANYTHING about this situation... The ball became bigger and bigger, glowing ever so slightly before the dragon released it from it's mouth to blast Venwyn's Life Points down.
"And scene." Floyd bowed graciously.
Venwyn & Ethel LP 1350 > 0
WINNERS: FLOYD & YIN!
This was the second loss since coming to the Duel Academy. Venwyn didn't react externally to the loss this time, as with his last match. Internally, his rage was the one to pierce the heavens. Still, he didn't outright state it, or even spoke about the matter; he simply left in his typical puff of smoke, leaving behind a log with a piece of paper pinned to it. The piece of paper had a drawing of a hand on it.
...
The hand had its middle finger raised.
Ethel... Couldn't believe it. She lost again. and this time... Everything went right. Everything went the way it was supposed to... And she still... Lost... She dropped to her knees again, raising up her free arm. The hand was curled up into a fist. Ethel started pounding on the ground with her fist, underside first... Tears didn't well up, unlike last time, but her fury was noticeable. Was this going to be her entire year? Nothing but losing?
Floyd was jumping and punching the air in a joyous motion, laughing at their success. "I'm so glad we won that duel, most of it was down to you, though." He smiled at Yin, extremely thankful for her partnership. Looking over at their now singular enemy, the youth frowned a little at the emotion she was displaying from her loss; deep down, he did feel a bit of remorse at their victory due to how it was affecting her, yet nevertheless he was overtly positive.
Yin giggled cheerfully as Floyd showed is over excitement and then proceeded to give her a lot of the credit. To this Yin stood postural and bowed respectfully. "Thank you. I couldn't have done it without your help though." Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Ethel beating the ground pointlessly. How sad. People who couldn't handle losing here and there had no business wasting her time, but whatever she got more cards out of it so it was tolerable for now. Yin rose up smiling though still cheerful about her victory and possibly a new found friend in her partner?
Floyd and Yin won after a mostly strong game, almost being overthrown towards the end yet winning through Mind Control.
It had been a long and hard fought duel. Megan and Clementine had dueled with each other, but neither had spoke a word to one another. They were too focused on their opponents, who, for some reason, were both children under the age of 9. Despite being in control for the entire game, Megan and Clementine could not beat their opponents. The game was a deadlock for 39 turns. That was, however, until Clementine and Megan managed to get their opponent to 100 LP, whilst they were at 7100 LP. Suddenly, a trap card activated. Self-Destruct Button was revealed to be the trap card. Because it was so late, they had no counter to it. "Well. That was a waste of time." Clementine said in a jokey tone before going back to the bleachers to watch the rest of the games.
After-arithmetic
As the duels came to an end, the students ended up sitting back on the bleachers. 30 minutes passed. Most of the students were asleep at this point. Without so much as a warning, the door into the arena came flying off of its hinges. A loud bang woke most of the students as the room was filled with total silence.
"ALL RIGHT STUDENTS, LISTEN UP!"
This yell came from outside of the door. A large burly man came running in, manually holding every single card pack ever released in his burly hands. Whispers circulated throughout the students. "Is that Transformer?""He's really buff.""This reminds me of my 8th birthday."Muscle is an illusion, intelligence is forever, hahahehehe." Behind Transformer was the teacher who gave out decks from earlier. "When I call your name, come down to receive a card pack. He said, his voice the same as before. He then systematically called out names. After one's name was called, they would walk down to Transformer, who would... rather aggressively give them the card pack that they chose.
After the winner's names were called, the uninterested teacher began calling the losers down. Transformer managed to grab the remaining card packs and tore every single pack open at the same time. The same time. He shuffled all 201 cards with his bare hands in one stack, then began giving out the cards to the losers.
A voice came over the PA system.
"Attention all first year students, attention all first year students. Classes will start tomorrow at 9 AM. Please get rested for them. Until then, feel free to explore the academy and make friends~!"
What an exhausting duel. Floyd stretched his arms whilst yawning and closing his eyes, illustrating his tiredness. The Arena was slowly beginning to empty out now that some people had finished their duels and collected their cards, signifying the lack of utility the area now had after battles. After once more feeling gloom towards Ethel in her current state and the depressing atmosphere that surrounded her, the young boy decided to converse with her after he had collected his pack. Unfortunately, the shout for his name had not been so courteous as he had expected, almost throwing him off balance and toppling him over with the tone and volume provided by the teacher that was lazily stood behind a humanoid mass of muscle.
Whilst going towards the duo, Floyd contemplated the buff man precariously; he suspected that he was probably someone who used to be considerably overweight, yet has lost it all now, however the lingering desire for fatty foods remains. He attempted to take this seriously in case he was ever against him and needed to find weakness, however he couldn't stop laughing at the thought of 'Transformer' (As some students called him) being a veiny ball of chub. Although, this proved to be a precarious belief, as the beast himself seemed to stare into Floyd's soul and beat him to a pulp, just with his eyes.
After quickly muttering "Crossroads of Chaos, please." and having the crimson and gold pack forcefully shoved onto his palm, Floyd surveyed the area and suddenly remembered the action he was going to take. His eyes quickly spotted Ethel and suddenly his feet took him towards her, closing the distance with ease. Perhaps she had gained a random card that he wanted and could trade with her, that could be an added bonus to consolling her. The young lad desperately wanted a plant deck - to be fair, whilst he had nothing against princesses, he strongly desired to have a different theme.
After hearing the results Hayato walked to where everyone would receive their packs. Hayato looked at the large man people called transformer, Hayato noticed the way he handed out the packs almost as if he was attacking the students receiving their packs "Return of the duelist... thats all I want"Hayato mumbled but before he knew it... he instictively slapped the pack out of the hand that was handing him the pack out of self defense using his plastic sword"Sigh... i really watched too many samurai movies... sorry sir" Hayato sighed and mumbled before catching his pack with his mouth as he was resheething his plastic sword getting a few weird looks from the students, Hayato expected mr.Transformer to yell at him but yet he didnt and got praised for his response time but yelled at for not displaying raw power "err T-thank you sir?" Hayato reponded surprised to hear the strange compliment he was given dropping the pack on the ground.
After picking up his pack he decided to look for his former opponents and partner but could only find Vincent and Haas receiving their 3 cards from the bored teacher and decided to bring up the subject they last left with before the accidental nickname incident "You two planning on going for food?" Hayato asked still remembering the promise he made to the two of them and didnt really mind treating them on some food "If you two are I'll pay, I said i would after all" Hayato said to the 2 men standing before him, "wait... how did i catch the pack with my mask on... its just a mask right or is the mask just a hologram...?" Hayate thought to herself questioning once more about her mother's strange inventions
