@Snarfulblastjust giving ideas but he has seemed a little more aggressive lately.. Also Ruinil shouldn't have caused Karl's eye to turn red unless he directly drank some of her blood so what's going on with him?

The ethereal armor isn't glowing transparent light armor. It's basically melding demonic chitin over their bodies making them very much more durable. On top of that the Kest are subservient to the caster of the spell put on them.
