>Foster would like to see Darkstar's post first, but Darkstar wants clarification from Aristo.
It's either we teleport an opponent for Darkstar to smash directly flanking Cecelia from Pembroke-street, or for Darkstar's character to hulk-rush all the way down to mulberry
To be honest, it doesn't matter to me, so long as it follows what your characters have done in the IC so far, and makes logical use of the map. Go with wherever you visualize your characters being. The street names and so on were originally for IC depth and to give the city character. Sorry I have't had a chance to post IC today; lots of things going on.
@OppositionJ Poor Ryder, how will she get out of this one?
@Commodore Robot@Cerberov@Sophrus Hi fellas; just want to make sure you're still around. If not, I'll find some way to put your chars on leave, or otherwise give them a spectacular end. It's been over 20 days since your last post(s), so I'm putting you in the inactive list for the time being.
@WilsonTurner@Windicator@DarkStar@Foster@OppositionJ I had a matter on my mind and I wanted to call a vote of sorts. Should we do away with the purchase/customization system, or keep it in future 'combat cycles?' The idea was to have the opportunity to build a FRAME concept you enjoy, while restricting items available to you so you'd feel like you were 'growing' in power as the RP gets longer. However, I have the impression that it hasn't worked out so smoothly and might be a turn-off to new players who don't enjoy mechanics in freeform, or want to use a specific concept off-the-bat. What do you think?
The largest limiting-factor of the frames is weight-limits, not cost. So needing to wait before getting anything decent is a non-issue.
Although the selection is a tad sparse, it does successfully allow a decent variety of builds.
Ok I am whereever foster believes I am....
Cause' he has more of a handle on this.
I'd say you're on an allyway on Pembroke street or tucked around the corner of a building towards Mulberry, and not precisely in the middle of a major intersection (if the opposing force did set-up a defensive-position in an intersection, they're idiots; because outflanking them would be easy, as illustrated by a mortar-round).
There's a 4 meter wide service-alley in the north side of Highview about 60 meters past Pembroke, on the south appears to be a parking-lot* big enough to house a mortar-team. A sniper about 1 block NW of Highview would have a pretty clear line of fire down the alleyway (literally, on the other side of the alley), and leave himself as exposed as my IC suggested.

First off I think that the most limiting factor has been the selection (Like everyone was just grabbing C3 because they felt like there was not much better (I maybe wrong though)).
I for one am pretty used to the "Growing arsenal" perspective coming from games like armored core and pretty much any mech game with customisation (armoredcore works well as an example for mercenary mech game) where you get parts overtime also having to buy them but I can see how it'd be a turn off for new people.
My biggest concern with the system really would be if the rp got stagnant or if it feels that there's not many things for people to differentiate themselves. I'm practically playing out of my element (by choice) as I usually take the "artillery" route (mortars atm would have been a very usually pick for me.)
I dunno how active I can be, so I'm just putting this here to say that I might not be able to be as active as I hoped. I might officially drop; I might not. Just a forewarning, for now.
@WilsonTurner We'll give it a week or so and if we don't hear from you or you officially announce dropping, I'll drop your char from the roster. Sorry to hear; I know how enthusiastic you were at the start!
Tbh though, reactive armor would hardly be much use. It's mainly good against shaped charges- HE and HEAT-type rounds. Regular AP or APCR, or APFSDS, would punch through with a much less likeliness of getting knocked off course. It is meant to, of course, set off the explosives, not stop whatever comes near it.
Name: Katherine (Radley) Frost Age: 26 Gender: F Disposition: The rebel. Frost by name frost by nature. She acts cold and uncaring having built many barriers to keep people at bay. Finds it hard to trust people because they always hurt you in the end. Deep down she is a friendly bubbly girl. Also a natural engineer by nature.
Background: As part of the Radley family, and an only child, Katherine Radley grew up the envy of every other kid, having every luxury money could afford at her beaconed call and whim. While not the male protege and predecessor to the business her father had hoped for she was still the golden apple in his eye. Much to her young mothers disapproval, he taught her all the things unbecoming of a lady, that he would have taught to a son.
Katherine's father had many years more worth of knowledge then her mother and gladly passed on every bit he could. While Katherine had inherited her fathers brains she owed her stunning looks to that strict unpleasant conniving woman who she called her mother.
There was a common misconception that Katherins father was a work-aholic. True he worked hard and long hours at the Radley headquarters or in his home workshop, but that was only so he may spend more time with his cherished and spoilt daughter. On many occasions he combined the activities not being able to wait.
It was common place knowledge that Radley's made their own rules. With all the money and connections they had there was little they couldn't get away with. Katherine, in her fathers influence, develop a strong love for fast things, cars, boats and planes. Naturally this soon stretched to mechanics and engineering later followed. Throw in a forced appreciation for some self defence and pistol shooting for her own saftey, (more so to calm some fears of her fathers.) and Katherine had a very busy fast-paced childhood.
A fast paced lifestyle her old father should have never expected to keep up with. As Kat reached her early teens her father fell ill with age. Slowly their relationship dwindled as she could not stand not getting what she wanted. Worst of all, while bed ridden, this also left her mother in charge.
The two never saw eye to eye, her mother always wanted her to be more lady like. More of a 'leach' like her, or so Katherine thought. But besides her good looks and form Katherine also shared her mothers affliction to alcohol. As her fathers health descended, the family tension increased and so did her drinking. For Kat there were no boundaries, there never had been. She went to the wildest parties in all parts of the world, mingling with all the wrong people and disappearing for weeks on end. DUI after DUI came up, crashed car after crashed car, illegal possession of drugs and firearms. Eventually her name couldn't protect her from her wrap sheet or the bad people of the world.
One of her most unpleasant ordeals was a kidnapping, the strain it put on her father shortened his life by years. She was treated unpleasantly, cruelly even yet the worse and most painful aspect is it was by someone she thought she loved, that hurt the most.
The ransom was paid, paying top dollar for her retrieval she was picked up by the Panther squad. Only to return home and be taken in by the police before she could even step foot in her own home. As the cops took her away and she screamed and fought in the heavy rain of that dark night, she still recalls the look on her frail sick fathers face as he stood shakily in the open doorframe moments before collapsing.
Kat was in prison for a few years, when she came out she never went home. Her father died while she was in gaol. The difficulty she was having finding employment only proved how much her mother still despised her, Kat knew it had to be her doing, after all she now possessed her fathers reach, money and influence. Every where Kat went she could smell the residue of her mothers distasteful methods of persuasion.
Some days she wondered if her mother was truly that spiteful, or if what she saw wasn't clues of her presence and subtle hints of her influence, maybe Kat was just going insane. Finally she found a company that would take her on, the role was far below her skill and knowledge but having been battling with homelessness Kat gladly took it.
She worked hard and quickly rose in rank, eventually doing work which occasionally included repairs for the Panther squad or fitting of new equipment and running diagnostics.
She could finally have an alright living as an engineering assistant, instead she used what she had to legally access some of the money that her father had left her. After her mothers dirty tricks and legal fees there was barely enough for her to put together her current FRAME, but there was, so she did. After that she sought out the famous mercs she had herd so many stories of. Katherine Frost hunted down the Panthers.

Not always the case; Russia's Kontakt-5 and newer Relikit reactive armor is designed to stop APFSDS rounds. The armor is designed to burst sideways, which can cause them to fragment or be broken in two. It might still make contact, but the actual penetrating energy is greatly negated.

Appearance coming.
Welcome! Before accepting your character, could I ask for more paragraphs of history/disposition? Its clear what sort of person she is, but I'd like a bit more embellishment; what in particular turned her off so much from her former life and exactly did she do to warrant her disowning? A bit about how she discovered the Panthers would also help. Just trying to keep ourselves to an advanced standard.
Yea I'm happy to complete that, I'm still reading into it a bit I just got cut short for time.
What company are the panthers most closely related to? Also if you got any ideas that would fit her character/story I'm all ears.
I'll have it up in a few hours. :)
I can't say anything for Panthers before the start of the RP but I can Quote an in game NPC for you if that helps with your question:
The representative gave Richard a wry smile and continued, "Most likely not, but that's where you come in. The Director wishes to extend your contract with Cradle - indefinitely."
"Indefinitely?!" Richard blurted, in the middle of a sip.
"That's right; the Panthers are valuable to the security of this company, Mr. Bentz. The Director wishes to keep your team close by, in the event Cradle meets any other complications down the line. In truth, 'indefinitely' is however long it takes for Cradle to complete its top-priority project; which has resumed, thanks to your retrieval of the asset earlier this week. Realistically speaking, we've estimated a period of about four months until its completion."
If you want anything more concrete and to stay on the safe side, you better wait for @Aristo to give it to you straight but you could play around that idea.

Damn Russians >.>
Yeah, I only know about American shtuff, for the most part >.<
@Dark Light Looks okay; just a reminder that spellchecking and proper grammar are to be expected in this section of the Guild. Did you have a plan on how to introduce her into the IC, what with all that's been happening so far?
@Aristo Thanks and sorry, will try my best to keep on top of it. Maybe Kat had followed them to their current location and was about to approach someone until the battle broke out. Now instead of asking to join she thought it a great opportunity to show them she can be valuable. ???
