[IC] Digimon: As the Lights Fade [Closed/Dead; Thanks You Everyone Who Participated!]

Kabuterimon was hovering above Datamon's Old Laboratory when he saw the humans scurrying inside. He didn't blame them, after what he had just did, and what he even looked like, who wouldn't expect him to be an enemy? He had to approach this cautiously, he wanted to help them, not provoke them. He landed a few feet away from the doorway, seeing about three humans from what he could tell. With them he saw a Conomon, Gizamon, and another Kapurimon.
"Easy, no need to be afraid, I be a friend, not your enemy. I know my looks may be deceiving, but trust me my intentions are pure!"
He could tell that they weren't really buying it, and then he noticed the small purple fox digimon passed out with them. Could it be... Before he had time to ask, a rush of fur jumped from the brush, taking form next to Kabuterimon.
"Leomon! It sure has been a long time old friend."
"Much too long, I heard what happened from the other humans, and Angemon sent me to find you and the other Digidestined. It seems you've found some indeed."
"Eye, but they are pretty shaken up, and look for yourselves who they have with them."
Leomon peaked in the doorway and saw the small digimon as well, almost as shocked as Kabuterimon was.
"Is that... Dorumon? So, Alphamon was not destroyed, he survives, for the most part..."
"Eye, his memories of Alphamon and his other forms most likely lost... at least he's still alive."
Leomon bent down into the doorway, carefully extending his hand, paw, whatever it was in a handshake motion.
"I believe introductions are in order, my name is Leomon, and he is Kabuterimon. You can believe us, we shall not harm you, we will bring you to the other humans who have been brought to this land."

As we walked with Angemon and Beelzemon, whos name I had learned from conversation, I was walking a good distance from Ivanova, or Nonna as Kapurimon had called her, with Agumon and Gabumon.
"She really gives me the creeps, so ruthless and self-centered... she really scares me."
"You said it, pal, PawnChessmon is kind of the same way, always wanting to do things herself."
"Then there's Danny, and... what were their names, Hawkmon and Salamon?"
"Hawkmon and Salamon are old friends of ours, we've known each other since we hatched from our Digieggs. And Danny seems like a nice human too."
"And then there's that Annaliese girl and that fairy... Tinkermon right?"
"You got that right, they make an interesting pair to say the least, I wonder how that will pan out."
Angemon had slowed and began pointing to a nearby mountain, which appeared to be somewhat shining.
"There, that is our home, the home of the Defenders of the Light. For months we have fought against an evil, known as the Council of Five, who took over the land when the heroes of our world vanished. Recently we had a beacon of hope in our failing struggle, Alphamon, the most powerful of our world's heroes, returned from places unknown and fought the Council. Unfortunately, he lost, and he has not been seen of since. The Council of Five claims he has been destroyed..."
There wasn't much I could say after that, everything seemed pretty clear now. Unfortunately, that wasn't me, I needed the specifics, but I would wait and hold my nagging questions until we were safely away.

"Kamina!" shouted Kazero, finally finding some bass and confidence to his voice. By now, with his relentless shouting, his throat was getting coarse and lips were beginning to dry, but at least it did well to steady his nerves. With no more beach to trek, Kazero eventually went further inland. He decided to search silently for Kamina at this point, mindful of the monster that attacked them before. On the beach, he had a chance of seeing something approaching him before it was upon him. The forest was a very different beast. After trekking aimlessly once again under the trees and through the leaves Kazero jumped as the device in his pocket began to beep and vibrate. He instinctively reached into his pocket to throw it away, completely forgetting that he even picked it up. When he threw it into the dirt his mind flashed back to when it was glowing as the river currents dragged them both under the waves. He remembered that it brushed his hand as he was thrust involuntarily around.

He was snapped out of his daydream when the device shot out a light and began making a lot of noise. Kazero jumped on the device, trying to bushel it under his stomach to muffled the noise and the light to little avail. It soon stopped and Kazero breathed a sigh of relief before picking up the device and inspecting it at close view now that it was no longer animated. As he did so, his ears picked to the noise of rustling bushes. It was a ways off, but the next rustle was closer. The one after that was closer still. Kazero began to scramble backwards while facing the incoming rustling ready to emerge from the clearing. He backed away far enough to see a stick and yanked it to hand while standing to his feet. He swallowed his heart as the figure broke through the last brush and plodded in front of him. Kazero froze. Not so much in fear but in perplexity. Expecting a large scary beast much like the one that chased him last night, Kazero was faced with a small rounded face beset with orange fur and a relatively oversized jet-black horn.

It looked about as harmless as Kazero. The monster studied Kazero quite calmly, but then made a confused face of his own. He approached Kazero, making Kazero step back cautiously, but stopped while still a few paces out, beginning to sniff into the air doggedly because making a disgusted face.

"I knew it - You're not the one I'm looking for!" the puff-ball snapped.

"Wha-?" replied Kazero, somewhat taking in that the puff-ball could speak english. The puff-ball took Kazero's ignorance as an offence, however.

"What did you do with him? Where is he?" snapped the puff-ball.

"Where's who?" replied Kazero sheepishly.

"Don't play dumb with me! The digidestined of course! The one you stole that digivice from!" rebutted the puff-ball while pointing it's horn at the grey device Kazero left on the ground. It hopped at Kazero horn-first, causing the teen to swat it back with his stick while Kazero was glancing at the device, realising that was the 'digivice' the puff-ball was referring to.

"H-hey! Stay back! Digidestined? Digivice? I didn't steal anything! If it's yours then take it! But if you come-" Kazero was quieted by his stick sliding a part in twain which he appreciated came from the puff-ball's horn slicing it and immediately rescinded any notion of it being harmless. The puff-ball bounced up to the device and simply sat on it clearly trying to struggle with something to no avail. The puff-ball growled under its breath.

"How did you get this?" he asked, no beginning to believe that Kazero was as clueless as he was portraying.

"I... I was being chased- no. My cousin and I were being chased! That's right! My cousin! He was attacked by a big black monster with wings! He might be hurt real bad! Can you help me-"

"Wait- a black monster with wings? You mean like a Devimon?" replied the puff-ball.

"I don't know! I've never seen anything like it before! But it attacked my cousin-"

"So you were there... hmm. And cousin? I guess as family the device might be likely to make that mistake in close quarters..."

"What are you saying?" asked Kazero confused. "Can you help my cousin?"

"I already helped your cousin. The white light that you must have seen was that digivice, stored with the raw digipower I have from my evolved state. It was supposed to be enough just to save the digidestined long enough to get transported to this world. The fact that I cannot digivolve back means the power was clearly used. Your cousin was saved," explained the puff-ball, igniting a smile on Kazero's face. "For now." he detailed, shutting down the smile just as quickly. "Right now I should have been talking to him to explain why that Devimon attacked him and why I transported him here. I only put the limited digipower I did into the digivice because I never would have expected a random kid to fiddle with it first!" he snapped.

"I- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to touch anything. The mons- Devimon; it attacked me first. Kazero jumped in the way to save me and I got knocked into a river. The digivice got knocked in too and then I touched it and ended up here. If you sent me here, just send me back, I gotta help him!"

"Relax." commanded the puff-ball. "The journey is only one way. I cannot send you back right now and even if I could, you would serve no use against that digimon. You couldn't stop me in my current form. This is my second weakest form by the way. Nonetheless, time works differently in this world compared to yours, and Devimon cannot stay in your world for too long. You have some form of Vanguard in your world, I presume?"

"Vanguard? We have police if that what you mean," replied Kazero, eliciting a stone-face from the puff-ball. "Law Enforcement. They protect people."

"Good. Then he'll be fine. Follow me." replied the puff-ball. Kazero initially didn't move.

"To where?"

"To the others. I'll explain the rest on the way, but for now remember that you are not supposed to be here. You're a liability and highly vulnerable. Don't touch anything, don't trouble anything, don't try anything." The puff-ball ordered. "Now pick up the digivice; I don't have pockets or hands... thanks to you." he snapped. Kazero looked down after being insulted, but did as he was asked, picking up the digivice to follow the puff-ball.

"My name is Kazero by the way-"

"Shut up." snapped the puff-ball. Kazero silently put the digivice in his pocket.

Derrick stopped mid walk and turned around to see yet another digimon appear. He looked at the being with caution but not distrust. He was in a foreign world and the place around him was going to have weird looking allies and foes alike. He didn't know know who to trust. Well he trusted his companion Kapurimon. "Uh is he trustworthy little dude?" Derrick asked in a stutter as his digimon looked over the newly arrived digimon for a moment and nodded. "I don't get the feeling he means to harm us. I would trust him." commented Kapurimon as Derrick steadily nodded and waited for just a moment before he reached his hand out to the Digimon. "My name is Derrick Quinn. No relation to Harley from Batman. Nice to meet you big guy." Derrick said uneasily.

Not wanting to crush the boy's hand, he lightly shook the human's hand.
"I must say it is an honor to meet the Digidestined in person, the one's destined to save our world... you all must be very confused on what is happening right now, especially with that little purple one there."
"I can clear that up. You see, when a Digimon is defeated it usually reverts into a previous form. However, Alphamon appears to have lost so much power and energy that he has reverted several forms, causing him to lose his memory..."
"That is Dorumon, Alphamon's Rookie form. He will not remember anything about being Alphamon, or any of his previous forms... This is probably a lot to take in at once."
"We should get them to Angemon and the others, the other Digidestined should be waiting for us, as well as answers to why you are here."
"Do not be afraid, we will protect you on the way there."

As we walked, I noticed something bright flying through the sky. It was shining like a star, i'd never seen anything like it. I asked Angemon what it was.
"That is what we call a Digital Memory. When a Digimon is defeated and forced to revert several forms, the memory of all their forms after that are wiped, collected, and hidden away to be found again."
"A Memory that bright, it has to be Alphamon's! That means he is still alive!"
"Alive maybe, but of little help now, unless we find his Memory. We will discuss that later, before that, we have arrived."
I think we were all a bit puzzled, as we were staring at a solid rock wall on the side of the mountain. Angemon waved his staff in front of the wall, and the wall slid into the ground, revealing a torch-lined passageway.
"This is our home, the home of the Defenders of the Light. It can be your home as well for your time here. Follow me."
Angemon walked in first, then Agumon and Gabumon, then me. The rest followed in some order, with Beelzemon in the very back. He closed the door after we all passed in. There was no going back now.

"Well I am pretty awesome aren't I?" Derrick said rubbing his nose and chuckling light heartedly as his digimon looked at him like he was the least humble being in the world. "My partner's lack of modesty aside Leomon sir would you mind telling us what we're suppose to be doing? I was told that I'd be helping retake the world from evil but I don't know where to go or how to do it sir." Kapurimon said humbly as Derrick ignored the digimon's low blow; "Will that Angemon dude or lady tell us what's going on and what we're suppose to be doing?" asked Derrick to the large digimon in front of him.

Anya laughed and grinned when Derrick nervously suggested they all head back inside for the time being before slowly retreating inside followed by Kapurimon. Graham and Gizamon introduced themselves shortly after, "Nice to meet the both of you." She told them smiling warmly. She listened to the conversation between the two about the creature that had protected them, she felt bad that she was partially responsible for what seemed like its death. She stared at the small fox thing he was talking to momentarily, she hadn't noticed it before, she had thought that was Alphamon's dead body or something.

She stared at the giant insect heading towards them then back at Graham before retreating inside with him and the rest. Shortly after the digimon was upon them and began speaking, she turned and watched it intently as it spoke. It seemed harmless, if it had intended on attacking them it would've done like that Goblimon thing, right? She watched as another digimon lept forth from the bushes who was greeted by the insect as 'Leomon'. She continued to remain silent as they spoke and introduced themseleves, Alphamon apparently wasn't dead either just...devolved? Weird.

Leomon soon extended it's hand for what she would assume to be a handshake, it was Derrick who returned the motion after a quick exchange between him and Kapurimon. Kabuterimon and Leomon soon explained part of the process behind the de-evolution or whatever had happened to Alphamon. She nodded, indicating the fact that she had understood, at-least partially.

Anya stepped out of the doorway and in front of them. "How many more of us 'Digidestined' are there supposed to be?" She asked. "And, where exactly are we going?" Of course, she had hundreds of other questions at that point, but those were the top two that came to mind.

"Woah," remarked Kazero as he pushed aside a branch to follow the petite orange furball he now knew as 'Tsunomon' through a bushel into a new clearing. He was being educated on recent events within this 'Digital World' regarding the likes of the Council of Five, Alphamon, the rebellion and the digidestined, as well as Tsunomon's role in all of this. It was a little awkward, what with Tsunomon's no-nonsense attitude and apparent disgust of Kazero. "So you were going to be Kamina's partner as a digidestined, and your older brother also has a digidestined too... I get it now."

"You get it?" parrotted Tsunomon in disbelief. Kazero chuckled.

"Oh yeah. I get why you're so wound up that I showed up. Trust me. I know all about being left in the shadow of someone close to you." revealed Kazero.

"You know nothing. Not of me, not of my brother and certainly not of how I feel," rebutted Tsunomon.

"Hey man, the first time you ever met me was 20 minutes ago and you were already disappointed that it was me over my cousin. What's not to get?" countered Kamina. Tsunomon stopped in his tracks momentarily, looking to the floor, realising Kazero had a point. "But... I don't hold it against you. This sounds really important to you and your people. You're bound to say things in the heat of the moment to someone like me who doesn't know better. Hell - I'm not surprised that Kamina was picked to help you save your world. Trust me, you picked right with him. He won't let you down - I don't even think Kamina knows how to..."

"That is all well and good but he's not here. And you still shouldn't be here." reminded Tsunomon.

"Yeah... but I promise; If I can get home, I'll get to Kamina and make sure he reaches his way back here to help you. It's not much, but it's what Zero's like me are built for." ascertained Kamina.

"...Zero's?" queried Tsunomon.

"Yeah, it's my nickname." explained Kazero.

"That's what your 'cousin' calls you, a zero."

"N-no! Well... not originally. You see-"

"Shut up." snapped the puff-ball. Kazero silently looked down after being insulted.

As much as Hawkmon wanted to prove his worth he knew better then to go after Alphamon's Memory and abandon the others, even though he didn't know if anyone could access it. Instead he tried guessing where it might land but since the only thing he knew for sure was the direction it flew in that was completely pointless.

Salamon in the meantime did her best to keep up with Angemon so that she could walk next to her "secret" crush.

When Angemon opened the tunnel in what seemed a solid wall Danny naturally was surprised , but in the short time he was in Digiworld he had seen too much for it to be shocking and he just entered it silently focusing on what questions he had were the most important.

"According to Legend, there have been countless generations of Digidestined that have saved this land before. They, however, have most likely faded away, just as many of their legends have. But, from what we saw, ten New Digivices were sent to the Human Realm, so far only Eight have returned."
"As well, four others are with Angemon and Beelzemon, if i'm not mistaken. They must have taken them back to their home for the time being, so they would be safe."
"We really should get you there as well, the beacons that signaled your arrival were easily seen from miles away, it would not be safe to stay here. You can stay here, but I highly recommend not, who knows what else could be coming for you, far worse than a Goblimon."
Leomon began walking away, and turned and looked over his shoulder.
"Don't worry, we won't let anything happen to you, I swear it upon the Leomon Clan."

After a long walk down the corridor, Angemon lead us into a large chamber that looked like a war room you always see on TV and in Video Games. There were four seats on one side of the table, and more seats were brought in for us, along with four others. I guess that meant there were four other Digidestined that had come to this world.
"As soon as Leomon returns with the others, we can inform you all at once about what brought you here to this world."
I noticed that the seat right next to Angemon seemed to be relatively unused, but I had other thoughts on my mind to wonder about that. Like how my power, and this thing they call a Digivice, made Agumon and Gabumon change form, or Digivolve as they called it. So I sat and twiddled my thumbs waiting for the rest of the kids who were called.

"I'll trust you on your word buddy ALSO you're right this place probably isn't all too safe. This place is a bit exposed. Besides there's probably some secrets left over in this lab. I really want to get to the end of the rope inside that place. If nothing else I want to fix it up. Can't hurt to have a home base to return too after we're doing on an adventure. I'm sure the digital wilderness is just as bad if not worse than real life wilderness." Derrick said as he looked at the digimon who had just promised them safety. He wasn't all too sure what was up ahead but he wanted to make sure everyone would be able to do have a haven to get to just in case something went really wrong. MORE over though he wanted to tinker with the new technology he had found himself in possession of suddenly. What more could a little aspiring tech genius ask for? "It would seem that we're going to be on our own then. You all need to prepare yourselves for whatever happens next. We won't have digimon to safe us all the time you know." Kapurimon stated to all of the present digidestined professionally and calmly as it waited for a group consensus.

Danny couldn't help but wonder who the empty chair next to Angemon was for, but he quickly arrived at the conclusion that it probably belonged to the missing Alphamon. Since Salamon wasn't sure how long it would be before she saw Angemon again she decided to curl up on the floor before him rather than sit at the other side of the table.

Hawkmon on the other hand choose to sit on his Partner's shoulder, since he knew the three of them would have to work together form now on and as such he thought it would be smart to build a connection as soon as possible.

Leomon and Kabuterimon waited as well, knowing that soon they would have to force them or risk not only their own lives, but the children's lives as well. Suddenly, it became quite clear they were running out of time. A massive explosion occurred far in the distance, one very familiar to the two Champion Digimon.

"Oh no... that blast... that had to be..."

A voice resounded through the forest, followed by another explosion.

"WEB WRECKER! Time to clear out these pathetic rebels!"

Both Kabuterimon and Leomon knew the voice too well, it was time to force the Digidestined away to safety.

"Digidestined, you all need to run, now!"

"That is one of the Council of Five, Diaboromon! If he finds you, he will destroy you!"

Leomon drew his blade, and ushered Kabuterimon to the children. He lightly brushed the children and their digimon out of the building, pushing them behind Kabuterimon and pointing towards a nearby mountain.

"Kabuterimon, you know where our home is, take them there, I'll hold of Diaboromon!"

"Leomon, are you insane?! You won't stand a chance against him!"

"This is not up to debate here, take them and go! Even If I am defeated, I will return one day. Tell Angemon I'm sorry..."

Leomon turned and rushed towards the booming of the explosions and the voice of Diaboromon, disappearing into the brush. Kabuterimon looked after him, then back to the Digidestined.

"Alright, Leomon will not buy us much time, we need to go now, or we'll all be done for!"

He urged the Digidestined forward, watching over his shoulder time and time again.

"DIABOROMON!"

The dark Digimon stopped his rampage and looked at the one who had screamed his name. He smiled.

"Leomon, how nice of you to come and meet me here. Unfortunately, this is your greatest mistake you could ever make!"

Leomon said nothing, and held up his blade ready to strike. He rushed forward, but was instantly crushed by Diaboromon's claws. Then, Diaboromon fired his deadly Web Wrecker attack. Leomon, unable to move, took the full brunt of the attack. His time was over, but he had a few last choice words for Diaboromon as he faded away.

"You have defeated me, but hope still lives on with the Defenders of the Light... Alphamon lives, and the Digidestined have come to save this world from your darkness..."

Diaboromon was taken aback by these claims, and watched as Leomon smiled and blinked seemingly out of existence, his data completely digitized.

Kazero suddenly felt the ground beneath him quiver and he wobbled and dropped to the ground. At the same time he heard a distinct, alarming, booming sound from the distance. It struck his ears like a heavy, low firework exploding prematurely. Tsunomon gasped as the event played out, pausing to shudder at the sound. He composed himself swiftly and began to hop with a faster pace and with greater strides. Kazero scrambled as quickly as he could back to his feet, following behind as hurriedly as his feet could against the uneven, root-covered ground.

"W-w-wait!" Kazero called concernedly. "What happened!?" he asked, understanding that it couldn't be good.

"I obviously have no idea! That's why I'm heading in that direction!" snapped Tsunomon.

"We're moving TOWARDS that sound?!" griped an alarmed Kazero.

"Then stay behind! A Fight means the other digidestined must be there. They are heading to the rebel hideout and probably have been cornered by pursuers... and I've wasted enough time babysitting you after having to retrieve you from the beach!" explained Tsunomon, talking allowed.

"Okay then! Let's go help!" replied Kazero, gritting his teeth and settling his trembling heart.

"What 'us'? There is no 'us'." replied Tsunomon, finding that particular remark so annoying that he turned to Kazero to refute him.

"You said something about putting your power in this Digi-thing to save Kamina from the Devil thing-"

"Digipower, Digivice, Devimon," quipped Tsunomon sharply.

"Okay-okay! Point is, you inadvertently saved me too as well as Kamina. I owe you one. He owes you one. I wouldn't be able to look him in the eye if you and your people were in trouble and I didn't see it through."

"This is a war between digimon! There is no place for civilians! You'll wind up doing nothing helpful and just get yourself killed!" barked Tsunomon.

"Maybe, but if I don't come along, there's absolutely zero chance I can be helpful. And the fact is, you're not 100% if you haven't got your power back, I can figure that much out." explained Kazero, being calm and mellow even in the face of Tsunomon's putdowns.

Since they were supposedly safe in this chamber Danny decided that this might be the time to ask an important question that had been bugging him, namely how the Digivices were supposed to be used. Of course that wasn't the only thing he wondered about, but he believed that information to be a bit more important than why they specifically had been chosen.

Before he could ask though there was a sound like a bomb went off in the distance. While he was annoyed at the timing Danny knew that the explosion could have injured someone and that was more important. "We have to go see if anyone needs our help!"

As Danny was leaving his chair Hawkmon spoke up. "I know you want to help, but all we know that explosion was meant to lure us in a trap." "Hawkmon has a good point, I think we should Angemon decide what to do. After he has experience in dealing with the Council of Five."

Even hidden away deep in their secret abode, Angemon could hear the explosion as well. He also felt something, a feeling of dread that he had not felt since the death of Ophanimon. Something had happened... He arose from his seat and left the room, leaving the Digidestined under the watchful eyes of Beelzemon. He traveled through their maze of tunnels to the secret exit they had come through before, and headed outside. He heard the voice boom through the forest.

"WEB WRECKER!"

So Diaboromon was on the hunt, which means the other Digidestined were in danger. He scanned the treeline for any sign of Leomon or Kabuterimon, and caught sight of Kabuterimon's helmet a good half mile out.

"Good, it seems they escaped unharmed... but this feeling, something isn't right, what could it be?"

He waited with his staff ready, serving both as a gate keeper and guard against the forces of the Council of Five if any would come to pass.

With some encouragement (and some minor force) Kabuterimon kept the Digidestined just ahead of him. He knew from the sounds that Leomon had shocked Diaboromon for a while, but he was back on the hunt.

"Everyone keep moving, don't look back! Once we reach Angemon's Sanctuary we'll be safe!"

He looked ahead and saw a small Tsunomon heading the way that they had just come. Unsure what it thought it was doing, he stopped it dead in its tracks. Following it was a Human holding a Digivice.

"Another Digidestined? Thank Azulongmon we found you in time, we must hurry! Diaboromon is on the hunt, and heading this way, we must reach the safety of Angemon's sanctuary!"

He forcefully turned the twosome and made sure that they were heading the right way once more. Soon rounding a bend in the forest he caught sight of Angemon waiting for them. They approached quickly, and Kabuterimon knew Angemon felt something wrong.

"Kabuterimon, it's been a long time old friend, let's get inside... where is Leomon?"

"Leomon... went off to face Diaboromon alone, to buy enough time for us to escape..."

"He... he what? Why would he do such a thing? At the moment our hope is brightest, we lose one of our greatest warriors and friends..."

Angemon was completely broken up inside. Leomon was one of his oldest friends, and to know that he was gone for who knows how long, it was nearly unbearable. He compared this time to when he lost his sister, less severe but still deeply hurting. He said nothing after this and led the way into their secret sanctuary.

Kazero, simply following Tsunomon's general direction, wasn't sure what or who to look out for. Tsunomon's appearance wasn't exactly similar to anything that Kazero could put his mind to. He had means of judging whether Tsunomon was a friend or foe just by looking at him, which meant nothing or no one he could see would be something he could instantly suss out as a good guy or a bad guy. Tsunomon slowed his hopping down when his nose caught a scent - something familiar. As he stopped to make sure which way the scent was travelling, Kazero also paused with him; hands on his knees catching his breath.

"Another Digidestined? Thank Azulongmon we found you in time, we must hurry! Diaboromon is on the hunt, and heading this way, we must reach the safety of Angemon's sanctuary!"

"Thank Azuwha-Hey!" remarked Kazero when he heard the voice call out from behind. His shock was in response to Kabuterimon's scaly right arms scooping him up and scurrying him towards and angel.

"Shut up." rebutted Tsunomon from Kabuterimon's left arms. Tsunomon looked up at Kabuterimon and closed his eyes with apparent shame. "He's not a digidestined. It's a long story we can save until we're all safe." Tsunomon rationalised. While Tsunomon spoke, Kazero looked ahead, seeing other kids and unique, strange monsters of differing kind and size, including the angle with his upper face covered by an iron mask.

"Oh, you're a good good guy," Kazero remarked about Kabuterimon. Kabuterimon relinquished them when they reached the Angel and Kazero overheard them talking about 'Leomon' who seemed to suffer a demise trying to escape. Kazero fell in rank with the group moving alongside Tsunomon. He couldn't help but look around at the other humans and digimon, establishing to himself that he couldn't figure out on the surface what made them so special. They seemed as vulnerable and out of their depth as even he was. Kazero then began to think about Kamina and he could see why he might be called to lead them. He then thought about what Tsunomon said and moved towards Tsunomon. "Hey... you said one of these digimon is a brother of yours, right? Is he here right now?" whispered Tsunomon.

"Shut. Up." replied Tsunomon in a similar whispered, but much more cantankerous. Kazero smiled to himself.

"You can introduce me later." he replied, taking a jest at Tsunomon's uncomfortableness.

With all that had just happened Derrick and his companion weren't sure how to properly understand what had just happened. Derrick's mind wandered as he looked around the sanctum that he had found himself in and felt rather uncomfortable in this area. It wasn't his sort of tea and he didn't know if he could really fit in here if they were to stay here for a bit. It made him feel as if he really was weak and that was not a feeling Derrick could really fathom. However Kapurimon stood firm as it looked at it's partner. "Don't worry we will be fine here Angemon is a friend and will keep us safe here I know it." his digimon said to him as Derrick took his partner's words at face value. He still himself wasn't sure if this place was really the place good guys went or if this was still some trick or if he was dreaming or not. This whole ordeal was starting to overwhelm him how was he supposed to defeat those big guys back there with Kapurimon? They were so small in comparison....but he'd have to at least try or he wouldn't be able to live with himself. He didn't back down from a challenge no matter how big it was. "I get that but...what are we supposed to do now? I don't even know the first thing about this place so how am I supposed to save it? It's like asking a blind man directions." Derrick muttered to himself as he breathed in deeply. "But I ain't no quitter. I'm going to at least try."

Danny was torn on what to do. On the one hand he wanted to rush out there and help but on the other hand he knew that he was too important for the wellbeing off an entire world to rush into a fight that was too much for his Digimon to handle. The fact that Angemon left before he could ask what to indicated that this might be such a situation.

Salamon in the meantime tried to sneak out of the room in order to see Angemon fight hoping Beelzemon wouldn't notice. Hawkmon at least did notice but didn't say or do anything being too busy with coming up with advice for Danny.

Brent and the others had been waiting at the table for some time. He had begun to wonder if something had happened to the other Digidestined. Everyone had heard that explosion in the distance, but had no clue what it was. I was kind of worried whatever caused it might use it to break in here.

"Hey, Beelzemon right? What if whatever caused that explosion tried to break in here?"

"That would be the day. We're deep in the mountain, and Angemon protected this place with some kind of ancient digital magic when we made this place. Even the Supreme Cannon of the Legendary Omnimon couldn't penetrate this place now."

Brent had no clue who this Omnimon was, but from the sounds of it he was pretty powerful, maybe on the same level as Alphamon from what I had heard about him. It put me a little bit at ease, but still completely confused on the situation. I looked again at the people sitting around me: A Russian Girl who prefers to do things her own way every time, a pretty relaxed boy, and another girl who, from what i've seen of her, isn't afraid to speak her mind. I wondered what the other Digidestined were like, probably completely different from one another like we were. It seemed like I wouldn't have to wait long to find out, as shadows and voices approached from the hallway we'd come from.

Leading the way was Angemon, followed by Kabuterimon, then four more kids, One boy with a Digimon similar to Nonna's, another boy with some kind of dog/fish mix Digimon, a girl with a small pink fluffball of a Digimon, and bringing up the rear was another boy with a small Digimon shaped like a ball with a horn on it. These two didn't seem to be getting along as well as the others.

"Kabuterimon, it's been too long... what's wrong Angemon?"

"Leomon... he's gone."

Agumon and Gabumon, along with Beelzemon, were shocked by this news. Obviously Leomon was super strong, so I guess him being defeated is a big blow to their cause. With this news delivered, Angemon returned to his seat, and I watched as everyone gathered around the table, now with two empty seats.

"Now that you are all here, it's time for you to learn why you have been brought to our world. To do so would take us back in time about two Digiyears... The Digital World, it is peaceful, protected by the greatest warriors to ever grace the Digital World, the Council of Five. These were all the most powerful Digimon known. These were great knights: ImperialDramon, Omnimon, Gallantmon, Susanoomon, and Alphamon. One day, they heard of a great evil, far in the unknown lands of the Digital World. They left to fight it, believing that they could stop this evil before it reached our world. That was the evil one's plans. After they left, the current Council of Five came to power, enslaving the Digital World under their iron rule."

So those were the original Council of Five, and why Alphamon was so important. Angemon paused for a moment to gather his thoughts, then continued.

"Over time, more Digimon began to rebel against this new rule, and thus we formed our group known as the Defenders of the Light. It was founded by me, and my departed partner Ophanimon..."

He looks over to the empty seat next to him, then continues.


"Our battle was a losing one, and we had begun to lose hope when news began to spread. Someone was defeating the Council of Five's troops with extreme ease. They were rumors that one of the Legendary Knights had returned, and they proved true. Alphamon, leader of the Knights, had returned alone. He fought the Council of Five, but even with all his strength and skill, he was outnumbered and outmatched. He was defeated, but he did survive. He's lost his memory, and de-digivolved down into his Rookie Level, Dorumon."

"Now I see why we're here, but how did we come here?"

"As one of Alphamon's last requests, Azulongmon sent out Digivices to all worthy Digidestined in the Human World. He sent out 10, only 8 have returned thus far."

Angemon was now quiet, and I assume this is the time to ask some questions. Most of my questions had been answered, but I wasn't sure about the other Digidestined.

When Angemon began to talk and explain, Kazero was still looking around at the rest of the children and digimon present. He was etching their forms and shape to memory encase they were separated sometime in the future. If Tsunomon's original reaction to finding Kazero near the beach rather than Kamina was anything to go by, then it's possible that even humans in this digital world could be the enemy. While panning his gaze from the back of the council room everyone was gathered in, Kazero spotted Tsunomon's gaze locked onto the blue furred dog-looking digimon next to a kid similarly blue hair and clothes. Kazero could only think of one reason for Tsunomon to set his eyes upon another digimon in this group so intently. When Angemon explained that only 8 digidestined arrived thus far Kazero began to count the kids in the room. Before he could confirm the suspicion he had over Angemon's math, Tsunomon broke the silence.

"Seven digidestined." corrected Tsunomon. "I'm not sure specifically why, but my tamer's digivice brought his cousin into the digital world instead." Tsunomon looked to Kazero to explain himself, throwing Kazero into the limelight forcibly. Kazero looked at Tsunomon wide-eyed and now heavily self conscious.

"Err... okay. So - my name is Kazero. You can call me Zero.... or don't, it's cool. I was in the real world with my cousin. We were being attacked by a digimon," Kazero paused to glance at Tsunomon's face to more accurately recall their prior conversations. "A Devimon. The light came from the sky, carrying the digivice. We were attacked and the digivice attempted to shield us. I got knocked into a river with the digivice and then woke up in your world. I'm sorry about the mix up, but I think my cousin is hurt in the real world. You said something about Digiyears. Tsunomon was explaining that time in the digital world is different to that of the real world. Originally I was going to ask for a way to leave and get my cousin back, but it sounds like the amount of time it would take me in the real world, this will all be over by then. And you're already missing two people." Kazero paused, taking a depth breath and resolving his nerve. At the same time, Tsunomon - starting to second guess what Kazero was about to say - began to feel weak and jelly-like. "I'll take his place here and go back to him afterwards-"

"No." replied Tsunomon flatly. Kazero turned to the unrepenting judas.

"But I-"

"No" insisted Tsunomon. Kazero scooted down to Tsunomon.

"Dude! Come on man! Why are you doing this? You guys need help now. I'm not what you wanted but I'm here." protested Kazero in a whisper.

"You are not what I expected. I expected a digidestined. Instead I got his civilian sidekick. You have no business in this war. You have no business in this room. You are useless and only present a liability and danger to everyone else here and you need to leave." persisted Tsunomon, raising his voice so that everyone in the room could hear his words. Kazero stood up straight, realising that Tsunomon was not going to start a dialogue with him. "Good people have died! More will likely follow! This is not an opportunity for you to play a hero!"

"Hey! I'm not disrespecting what you're going through! I'm saying I want to help! I know this is serious and I know I can do something no matter how small it might be. I got the digivice to transport me here! I've spent most of my life around Kamina. Something must have rubbed off-" Tsunomon headbutted Kazero, making him drop to the ground gripping his forehead.

"Are you stupid or just belligerently moronic? The anomaly of the digivice reacting to you instead of my tamer are so minute I can't even be sure it is a full one percent!" barked Tsunomon.

"One percent..." replied Kazero. "That's Enough. Even if I only have one percent of what makes Kamina special, then I can definitely prove myself useful." Kazero struggled back to his feet, his forehead grazed from where Tsunomon's horn scratched him. "You hate me. That's okay. I'm used to that much, but I'm not going to fight back. When this is over and we're victorious and your people get your homeland back, you'll want to meet Kamina and I'm not going to tell him I made enemies with you on the first day I met you." added Kazero. His voice was lower than before when he was basically shouting against the world. "I'll carry the digivice for you until you can get hands of your own. After that, I'll stay out of your way bro." negotiated Kazero.
