Elena Reese

Glendale Community College, Los Angeles, California

Groaning rather loudly Elena opened her eyes as she looked at her phone showing that it was 8AM on the clock, she was never the one for waking up so early in the morning. Looking around her bedroom Elena slowly got up from her bed and started to get changed into a pair of short jeans as well as a tank top. Letting out a sigh Kayla headed out of her bedroom and into the small apartment's kitchen and fixed herself a coffee and turned on the news.

“Congress has a special announcement about a new bill about to be passed that is related to country’s Evolved human situation, but more on that after this. Within the past thirty minutes an entire high school in Los Angeles was wiped out and everyone inside killed. Today in Washington D.C, it’s been revealed that the Government has determined a way to figure out if someone has an ability or not. Accordingly they’ve passed a bill named the Bennet Act, obviously in reference to Claire Bennet herself who made her people public. This bill states there will be a mandatory testing to determine if someone has an ability or not, and it will be implemented into various establishments including work places, schools, and various government buildings. The Government says they are already beginning process of shipping out these tests across the country, and will start training various people on how to administer the tests and determine the results. Several in Congress have said this is a step in the right direction, and the President of the United States will speak on the matter later tonight." Elena's bright blue eyes went down towards the bottom of the screen seeing the words displayed at the bottom. "Test that can determine if someone is a regular or evolved human completed, to be administered to all U.S Citizens."

Upon reading and hearing the news on the screen she quickly turned it off, remembering the video that made international headlines about Claire Bennet exposing her ability to the whole world by jumping off of a Ferris Wheel where it would have killed a normal person. Of course this all had happened after her own ability had emerged, knowing how religious her whole family was Elena took all the money and belongings she had and moved to the other side of the country since that day she has never even made the attempt to contact them. Since then Elena had kept her ability a secret.

Elena heard her coffee maker going off and looked over towards the brewed coffee, she reached for the mug and took a sip from it. Looking down at her phone now she grabbed her brown leather shoulder bag which had all of her school supplies in it. She headed down towards the parking lot where an old orange mustang was. Which was her uncles who passed away and gave to her, who she was also very close to. Setting her bag in the seat next to her she turned the key in hearing the engine starting up and then failed. "Are you fucking kidding me!" Elena yelled smashing her hands on the steering wheel, she tried it again and it failed once more.

Elena sighed even more as she got up from the mustang and popped open the hood, looking around the engine was old and required a lot of parts to fix it. Looking around for a moment Elena closed her eyes hovering her hand over the car battery and sighed as she used her ability to jumpstart the old car which quickly came to life. She got back into the car looking over at her phone once more she had a good two hours before classes started and decided to drive over towards the school that was on the news.

Erin Marie Chase

Anaheim, California ~ Disneyland

The cool breeze gently blowing through the park sent a shiver down her spine, causing her to wrap her arms tightly over her chest in an attempt to keep warm as she hurried out of the ride so that she catch up with the rest of her friends. Splash Mountain… she knew from the beginning that she was going to be getting wet- especially when Dean had practically forced her to sit right up the front of the small canoe type vessel, but she hadn’t expected to become as soaked through as she actually was at that very moment; not that it wasn’t fun. Lifting her hand up from where she had it wrapped tightly across her chest, she let her fingers brush gently against her forehead, dragging some of her long and damp dark brown locks back off of her face before neatly tucking them away behind her ear so that they were no longer obscuring her vision in any way; her attention turning over to where her friends all stood a couple of steps away, each of them huddled in a circle with their heads down and eyes glued to the park map that was given to the group upon entry to what everyone knew to be the happiest place on Earth.

“..we have to go on the Haunted Mansion ride..! I’ve been waiting all year to be able to go on it..! Oh please, can we go on that ride next..? Please, please, please..!”

She couldn’t help the gentle chuckle that fell through her lips as she quickly closed the gap, slipping herself in between both Tristan and Dean so that she too could look down at the map as Gale tried pleadingly to get them all to follow along with her excitement- it wasn’t as though they didn’t want to go on that ride; they wanted to go on them all, or at least as many as they possibly could while they had the chance- so far they had been in America a full week, with three more left before they were going to be heading back home to Australia; and though they had probably made quite a huge mistake by going to Disneyland first, it had most definitely been worth it.

“Gale, you know we plan on going on every ride that we can while we’re here; we still have plenty of time to go on it, so don’t go rushing about or it won’t be as fun- besides…” A soft tinge of red crossed over her cheeks as her dark brown eyes met with that of Dean’s- the both familiar and cheeky smirk playing over his lips something that she had gotten used to over the years that they had known each other, though it was always something that caught her off-guard… her older brothers more charming and upfront friend always managing to keep her upon the balls of her feet, “.. we have the rest of the day ahead of us; and the parade is starting in like, what? Fifteen minutes..? Why don’t we high-tale it back to the main street, grab some snacks and a great place to watch it from? Then we can go check out some of the other rides they have around this place. What do you think Erin..?”

“U-Uh… I think it’s a good idea- we’ve been running ourselves flat out since we first got into the park this morning; a break could really do us all some good.” Eventually managing to tear her eyes away from Dean’s so that she was instead looking over at the other two that were standing with them, she relaxed herself once more before her lips turned up in a bright smile, her head nodding lightly up and down as though to push her point in agreeing to the plan that he had come up with, “Not to mention that it’ll also give us time to dry off from that last ride.”

It was just like clockwork. The very moment that the words had slipped out through her lips, her hand lifted up to take a hold of the pendant that was hung around her neck, the beautiful interchangeable golden tree pendant adorned with both red and white small jewels. It was a symbol of Fall… a symbol of Autumn… The season of which the days grew cooler, and the leaves changed color- where the once most vibrant of greens switched the most fiery of reds, oranges and yellows… where the animals that surrounded them began to get ready and prepare themselves for the frosty chill of the Winter climate that they all knew was on its way. She wasn’t used to this type of weather… it was as though she was stood under a completely different sun, but she knew as well as everyone else around her that it was one in the same.

Allowing her attention to wander away from the conversation that was going on around her, she let her gaze lift up to look at the vast sky that spanned out for miles and miles; such a beautiful shade of blue, and then painted with the familiar whites and greys that made up the clouds- a little bit of heat wasn’t going to hurt… not too much, but just enough to dry them off so that they could go and enjoy the rest of their day without having to worry about catching a cold or anything. Tilting her head ever so slightly to the side as her mind began to fill with the thoughts of those perfect summer days… the kind of days that she had spent with her brother and their friends, playing in the surf and the sand of the beach that their family’s home backed onto… the days that led cold drinks that you couldn’t hold onto without a stubbie holder, the unmistakable smell of snags, steaks and lamb chops cooking away on the barbie; days that led to running around barefoot and in your bathers in the backyard, messing around in the pool with your mates, and throwing water balloons at anyone who wasn’t paying any attention to what was going on- the very thought of it had her smile growing wider and her features lighting up happily; the feeling of the temperature heating up around her soon helping to spread an ever familiar warmth through her body, her clothes seeming to dry at a much quicker pace than they had been minutes before.

“Erin, come on..! You’re going to miss the show if you don’t get a move on..!”

“..huh..?” Pulled out of her daze by the sudden sound of her name being called out from somewhere in the area that was around her, she turned her head over towards the general direction she believed the source of the extremely familiar voice to be coming from, her dark eyes slowly flicking about the area in search of it until eventually, they came to a stop upon Dean’s figure standing over by the path that led back towards the main street of the park, “Oh… I’m coming; wait up, Dean..!”

Not bothering to give a second thought or any sort of notice to the slow but ever increasing climate around her, she quickly hurried to catch up with him, reaching out with her arm as she grew closer until she was able to take a hold of his hand, the simple action once more causing her cheeks to turn a soft shade of red. Feeling the warmth of his hand wrap around her own, she lifted her head up so that she could meet with his gaze for a few moments; the sweet familiarity behind his greyish-blue eyes helping her to relax as the two of them began to make their way side by side towards where the others they had come with had run off to.

Slowing down as they grew closer and closer to the ever growing crowd in main street, she slipped her hand out from his hold, bringing them both together in from of her stomach as she lifted herself up onto the balls of her feet so that she could get a better look around, her eyes flicking back and forth in search of their missing friends, “Dean… I’m so sorry; if it wasn’t for me lagging behind, we never would have lost the-… H-Hey, what are you doing..!”

Widening her eyes ever so slightly as she felt a large pair of hands take a gentle though firm grip over her hips, she dropped her attention down from the crowd to watch on, her stomach muscles tensing up as much as they could as she felt her lithe frame being lifted up from the ground before he let her down, sitting her down on top of his shoulders before wrapping his arms firmly around her legs and then shrugging as best as he could under her weight, “This way, you’ll be able to get a better view of the parade shortie.”

Feeling her cheeks growing a brighter shade of red at the sudden embarrassment of being lifted up into the air, she hunched her back over ever so slightly, her hands sliding down her leg for just a few moments before she took a gentle hold of the front of his top in an attempt to help keep herself from falling from her new perch, “I’m not that short Dean… besides, it’s a bunch of floats, I’m sure I’d be able to see them from the ground.”

“Oh really now…” Keeping her attention focused on him as he continued to walk until they had gone and completely joined the crowd, she watched on as he tilted his head back so that it was resting up against her stomach, flashing her his normal mischievous grin and chuckling softly before he began to reach back up to her, causing her to quickly pull one of her hands back to swat his own away from her altogether, “Well then… if that’s the cas-…”

“No..! I mean…” Slightly flustered under his never wavering gaze, she lifted the hand that she had been using against him back behind her head, her attention slowly turning away so that she was staring out into the distance as she lightly rubbed at the back of her head, “I said I would… didn’t say that I wanted to…”

It took her a few moments before she realized that the sound she was hearing was the sound of his gentle chuckle escaping through his lips before eventually, the sound of the crowd cheering around them caused the both of them to look over to where they could see movement upon the street. It was like nothing she had ever seen before- no matter how many times she visited the theme-parks up in the Gold Coast, no matter how many times she watched all of her favourite Looney Tunes, Marvel and Wanner Brother’s characters pass her by; it was by far no match for what it was that she was now seeing before her very eyes…

“Oh, Dean look..! It’s Minnie and Mickey..!” She couldn’t help the surprised yelp that slipped through her lips as she felt herself lifted even higher into the air, her grip tightening out of pure habit as he pushed himself up onto the balls of his feet so that he could get an even better look at his favourite character over the heads of the crowd- it felt like a dream, something that she could only ever dare to imagine as the parade slowly but surely continued on past them; the whole scene unfolding in front of her along with the music filling the air causing a twinkle within her eyes as she continued to gaze upon the characters that she had grown up admiring pass her by, adding to the already quite enthusiastic atmosphere that the crowd was giving off- the strange movement of one of the cast members within the parade itself catching her attention as the woman began to stumble about on her feet, her body hitting the ground causing those who were apart of the procession behind her to come to a complete halt before they rushed forward to make sure that she was okay.

Lifting her hand up from where she had it resting against his chest, her fingers pressed lightly against her lips in an attempt to hide her surprise- something wasn’t right here… people were beginning to drop all around them; not just the staff, but also those that were within the crowd, causing a panic to begin spreading throughout those that were left standing upon two feet. What in the hell was going on here..? People didn’t just drop down out of nowhere for no apparent reason; things like this didn’t just happen like that... they couldn’t, could they..?

“..Erin…” Taking a few moments longer to continue gazing upon the ever worsening scene that was going on right in front of them, she turned her attention down to where she could feel Dean’s hands once again gripping a hold of her hips, her body moving with his as he quickly pulled her down from his shoulders so that she was instead standing in front of him, his expression worried as he searched her eyes for answers she wasn’t sure that she would be able to give him, his voice lowering down to a whisper so that the conversation could go one between just the two of them, “..is it just me, or does it seemed to be getting a bit too hot for Fall weath-…”

The sound of terrified screams filled the air around them, cutting the rest of his sentence off mid-way and causing the both of them to turn their attention back to the road; the familiar dance of bright orange flames lapping up against and engulfing what they could see was left of the Sleeping Beauty float- the Princess herself quickly pulled to safety by her ever adoring Prince. This wasn’t right; she had never meant-… Turning her attention back to where Dean stood holding onto her tightly, she looked up at him with tear-glazed eyes, an all too familiar sting running across their surface showing him just how close she was to one of her break downs; the guilt from already having forgotten all about the small change that she had initiated only helping to fuel emotions, “I-I only meant to help dry off our clothes so that we wouldn’t catch a cold… Dean-… I never meant for this to happen…”

Feeling the gentle tug of his arm wrapped around her waist, she allowed him to lead her back and away from where all the commotion was going on, the two of them slipping around the corner and into a quieter area where they could be alone- she knew what he was doing… he was trying to calm her down; to reassure her that everything was going to be okay… that she would be able to fix this once she was able to focus again. Out every single one of their friends, he was the only one that knew about them; that knew about her and her brothers abilities, and after everything they had seen… even after Claire Bennet had gone out of her way to expose their kind to the world… he had not only kept their secret, but had also stuck by their side and helped to look after them both.

“Shh… it’s gunna be alright Erin…” Closing her eyes tightly as she brought both of her hands up to rest against his chest, she let her body fall into and press hard against his own as he tightened his arms around her, keeping her as close against him while he continued to try and soothe her enough to try and help her fix the situation before it became any worse, “..we’re gunna fix this okay? You and me… together; we’re gunna make this right…”

“..t-that’s the thing… Dean… I-I don’t think I can this time…”

Harri Van Helle

New York - Brooklyn

The street was full of people, everyone watching the tv screens in the electronics store. Harri had to see for himself what it was about. He drew his cap down a little and raised the neck of his shirt, to hide and blend in with the crowd. "...the Government has determined a way to figure out if someone has an ability or not. Accordingly they’ve passed a bill named the Bennet Act, obviously in reference to Claire Bennet herself who made her people public. This bill states there will be a mandatory testing to determine if someone has an ability or not, and it will be impleme..." Harri didn't need to know more and it felt like everyone was watching him, so he started walking away. In truth noone really even noticed him. It's a big city and brooklyn has it's fair share of the population, so why would they? He looks just like everyone else, easily lost in a crowd, apart from being a size bigger than the average guy on the street, or woman for that matter. Just paranoia. The usual.

The address was not in the most pleasant part of the neighbourhood, exactly the opposite. Noone with good intentions or, work that could withstand the light of day, would even consider entering this part of town. There was no other choice. He needed the money. He couldn't go back to Tom, not after what happened last time. 08:15 still fifteen minutes until he was supposed to show up. Better early than late like his mother used to say. The door into the bar made a loud noise and it was obvious from the decoration that this place had not been properly serviced in years. Mostly regulars and sorrowful pasts occupied the bar. No loud noises at all, a heavy atmosphere around the joint. Noone looked at anyone nor did anyone really talk to anyone. Something was obviously not right and Harri considered leaving for a short moment, but closed the door after him, as he stepped inside.

"You! Fresh meat. Welcome to Joe's, what's your poison of preferance?" A man well into his 30's spoke with a raised voice. He looked Irish and the feeling of the bar was definately Irish too. Harri figured it must be Joe himself. He started walking towards the bar and sat down on the only stool at the bar. "Don't mind them. They keep to themselves and oddly enough, they never see or hear anything. Keep that in mind while you are." Joe said as Harri had turned around to look at the occupants of the bar. As cliche' as it was, Joe was wiping the bar with a rag. " Three things you must remember. I don't know, I don't know him and I don't remember. You catch my drift?" Joe spoke a lot and kept on speaking even though Harri never answered his initial question. What made things weirder was as if Joe already knew him, but they had never met.

"I'll be sure to remember that. I'll have whatever you recommend." Harri took a toothpick out of the bar and put it in his mouth and quickly removed it, and pointed it at Joe. " Also tell Greene I came, I know he is in the back. Don't worry, he is expecting me. Which I think you already know." Harri put the toothpick back in his mouth, turned to his right, facing away from the entrance and started watching the TV. Joe poured him a glass of some cheap scotch, grunted and put the glass in front of Harri, before shoving the rag on the bar and walking away. The sports channel was on, but the picture kept going up and down, with white noise like blur channeling on the tv at the same. What a shit hole Harri thought to himself and took a drink of scotch. Definately not good scotch.

About 15 minutes passed before Joe came out again, " Sorry he is busy.", Joe said and took the rag from the bar and put it on his shoulder. " How are you liking your drink Harri?" He chuckled before turning his attention to the tv screen.

" It's piss. That's what it is." Harri stood up, threw five bucks on the bar, next to his empty drink. Fucking, Greene. He always pulls this shit. He thought to himself as he walked to the entrance to the back room which Greene had turned into his private office. Greene probably had gotten the idea from some movie and loved it. Now he pretends to be this great mafia boss type deal, unlucky for him, Harri has known him for years already. "READY OR NOT, I'M COMING IN DANNY!" Harri smashed the door into pieces with a punch. The room was quite dark, it took a while for Harris eyes to get used to it. Soon enough a beautiful marble desk caught Harri's attention. Behind it was Danny Greene in the flesh. " Nice desk man." Harri took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit one up and started smoking, as he walked towards the desk.

"Why did you have to do that? It was unlocked for christ sake Harri! Wait a minute... Are you a wizard Harri?" Danny bursted out in laughter and waved his hand to signal Harri to come in. " So how can I help you today?" Danny took two glasses from a drawer and poured whiskey in them, he put the other in front of Harri. " It's not the piss Joe serves, this doesn't actually taste that bad."
Harri drank from the offered glass and said. " You always do this. Can't this be easy for once. You were expecting me to come. Not two hours ago we spoke on the phone. What's the matter with you man?" Harri was grinning a little as he spoke. Danny was a good friend, although he might have a few quirks.
"Calm down. There is no harm done here. Well a little to my door, but I thought of replacing it with one made out of marble. To match my desk you see." Danny took a drink from his glass and leaned back on his chair.
"Are you nuts? You can't have a marble door. It would look ridiculous in that setting." Harri drank the whole glass in one go."But I am not here to talk decorations." He also leaned back on his chair, his right foot on top of his left leg." I'll just get straight to it." Before he could finish, he was interrupted by Danny.
"Did you see the news? You, my friend, are screwed. I can't use you on anything anymore, you know I can't. I don't want those government motherfuckers to get their hands on you. So how about I just front you some cash, for old times sake, and we pretend this discussion never took place. What do you say? Old times sake."

Harri took a long drag from his cigarette before putting it out in the fancy marble ashtray on the desk.Man, what's up with the marble. he thought before standing up. " I'm not a charity case Danny! I work for my money. I earn it. Legally or not. Just one last time and I promise to be careful."
" Sorry. I can't do that right now. What is most important now is that you keep a low profile. Look man." It was a hard situation for Danny too. After all they had been friends since first day of high school. Not only that, but he always felt like he owed Harri for protecting him throughout the years. First it was high school bullies, then the gangs in Boston and once Harri even took the rap for something he didn't know had happened. "You know I'll take care of you. How about I just take you off the streets and we'll, you know. Make an office right next to mine if you want."
Harri sighed and gave up. "Whatever. But no office. This one is ridiculous enough in here. No need to make this place even more suspect." Harri rubbed his face in frustration. He knew Danny was right, after all he had gotten them this far. He sighed in frustration and leaned forward. " Shit is really hitting the fan isn't it? Damn Bennet. What was she thinking? I mean, there is no way that could end well, she must have known that. Now the rest of us have to suffer. What a bitch" his tone was obviously angry and frustrated.

"Don't worry so much Harri. We'll get through this." Danny opened another drawer and took out a piece of paper and wrote down an address. "Now go and get settled in this new apartment. I'll have one of my guys pick you up in the afternoon and if you need anything, I mean anything, just call me and it will be done." He put it on the table and Harri picked it up. Danny stood up and was going to walk Harri to the door, which granted was in dozens of pieces now.
Harri walked with him to the door or what remained of it and tapped the piece of paper against his left hand as they walked together. Just before Harri was about to leave Danny interrupted him. "Thanks Harri. Thank you for letting me do this. It's the least I can do."
"Stop with that. I know you had done the same for me so no need to keep bringing it up." Harri knew deep inside that Danny wouldn't have gone to jail for him, but he didn't blame him for that. Danny was of a small build and sometimes he has a bigger mouth than what he can handle. With that Harri flipped Joe off as he walked out. Joe just grunted, spit on the table and continued to "clean it" with his rag.

"Oh how do ya do, young Willie McBride. D'ya mind if I sit here down by yer graveside," Derrick sang quietly to himself, his own voice drowned out by the roar of the bike beneath him. It wasn't his usual fair, but it was still a good song so he sang it.

Yeah. He was bored. To say the least. He'd finished work for the day, it was easy when he didn't actually have a job at the moment. There was always a need for a good motorcycle Mechanic but he'd also outed himself again accidentally the week previously at the shop. So with the boss aware of what he was he packed his few belongings, loaded the bike, and hit the road. He'd been getting tired of Sacramento anyway.

Now he wandered around Southern California and had found himself in the vicinity of Glendale. He pulled over, noting an orange Mustang down the block and parked the bike, backing it up against the curb. Cutting the engine he spun around in the saddle so he was laying down on the bike, legs stretched out across the pillion seat with his back resting on the tank.

Minutes later he tucked a freshly rolled cigarette between his lips and started patting his pockets for his lighter. "Feck," he muttered with a gusty sigh. The lighter was in his sale bags and he really didn't want to move to go digging for it. He looked around quickly for a second and, seeing no one around, lifted his index finger and pressed it to the tip of his smoke. A moment later a bright light sparked to life around the end of his finger and he puffed on the cig as the end caught.

"There's gotta be a bar around here somewhere," he groaned in a thick Irish accent and exhaled a cloud of smoke into the air. While he lounged and brooded he caught a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye and glanced over.

The girl was definitely hot. Slender, with longish dark hair and a decent figure. She climbed into the beat to hell orange Mustang and tried to start it, cursing when the vehicle failed to come to life.

She got out and opened the hood, looking at the engine within for a time with a pensive expression on her face. He was just about to go over and offer some help when she gave a furtive look around, much as he had, and waved her hand over the battery and the car started right up.

He ducked, eyes wide and watched her close the hood and get in the car. She was like him! He'd never met another Evo!

As she started to drive away he tossed his smoke and turned around on the bike. A press of his thumb had the engine roaring to life and he pulled away from the curb, following her before he had a chance to think about how stupid the whole idea was.

"H-hello frie- f-ffffriend..." Norman muttered quietly to himself, hopefully not loud enough for someone else to hear him.

"Daaaammit, i-it's happeni- it's haaaappening... I'm t-talking to som- sssssssomeone who d-doesn't even ex... exisssst." He was sitting on a bench on the Huntington Beach Pier, overlooking the ocean with a half-eaten sandwich in his hand. It was hard ordering that sandwich, considering his stutter, social anxiety, flat-out lack of social skills, etc., etc... Not to mention that the cashier was a woman, that made it even worse. He took another bite out of the sandwich, still looking out at the ocean and the surfers.

"I-I guess th-this w-was bou- bbbbbound to haaaappen som-someday." He would finish off his sandwich before continuing. "I'm t-too lonely not toooooo d-do t-this..." He would start to walk home, talking to himself, or an imaginary person, who it was he wasn't sure, about his day and his current situation. Walking up the steps to the apartment building in which he lived, he would drop some change into a homeless man's cup, and then continued up to his apartment.

It was a rundown and shitty place to live, but it was all that Norman could afford on his budget. He would feed his dog, an Australian Cattle Dog named Gordon, and then walk to his bed. He falls back onto it, then reaches under his pillow for his bag of weed. "T-this shooooould hhhelp for a bi- bit..." Pulling it out, he rolls a joint, smokes it, and... Poof! Like magic, he felt a little more confident; at least confident enough that he wouldn't stutter anymore. Once he was finished, he would go out and head to work. It was a few miles away, in Glendale, so of course he called a cab and was driven there.

Then, he would walk to his cubicle, sit down, and go about with his accounting business.

Vanessa Summervile

Somewhere in the big city of Los Angeles, California.

Vanessa woke up at 8 am and after her morning ritual she got herself ready for her first day at a new store in town. It was a photo shop. Vanessa had been a model for quite some time and next to that, she had bought herself a Nikon D600 and learned how to make good pictures by looking how the photographers worked that photographed her. She had her long red / blond hair bound into a high ponytail.

Her outfit was a plain blue jeans with a whole on her right knee, a black tank top with over that a white loose crop top saying: What Ever! in bright pink and a pair of ankle boots with a heel from 7 cm. This made her look a little less short than she was as she hated how people mostly though she was only 16 or 17 while she was 22. Her arms were covered with a few tattoo's and so were her shoulders.

After a short walk she entered the shop and smiled. ''Good morning!'' she said. ''Morning Vanessa'' a older man said and Vanessa smiled, she took her place behind the counter. ''Go get us some coffee first at the other side of the street'' she said. Vanessa nodded and took the money her boss held up for her. ''What ya want?'' she asked. ''Latte Machiato'' he said. ''Good'' she said and walked towards the Coffee store.

Lex Henderson
McConnell’s Coffee Shop, Los Angeles, California

Two men sat across from each other at a table in a small local coffee shop. The two were both dressed in black tailored suits having a not so smooth conversation on what their next job would be. Lex and his uncle Rob always had discussions that made it seem like someone was going to be disowned by the other.

“No! Why leave Cali? The weather is perfect here and we’ll make way more money here than in New York. That place is filled with nothing but bitter retired mobsters.” Lex argued before his uncle shushed him. Lex looked around the coffee shop to see if he’d grabbed anyone’s attention before shaking his head and drinking his coffee. He knew he wasn’t supposed to be discussing business so loudly, but he didn’t agree with his mentor at the moment.

“Listen kid, those white guys in upstate NY are guaranteed to pay us. There’s none of that bullshit where we gotta waste time trying to track down some bitch that don’t even got the money they promised to pay to begin with.”

“We do it enough and no one will try it. Besides, I got this one guy blowin’ up my phone about how he needs to go find and bring whoever destroyed some school to him.” Lex smirked at his uncle who didn’t seem amused about anything Lex just said. Lex continued though. “So I looked it up… By the way, you gotta stop being so old school and at least get yourself a personal smartphone… Anyway, they don’t know how this school was destroyed, which means...?“ Lex waited for his uncle to reply, but the man kept drinking his coffee. He could tell Rob didn’t give a damn about what he was saying, but he didn’t give a damn about how Rob felt. “It means we could be dealing with an Evo!” Lex said loudly which warranted a wide eyed scowl from Rob. Rob leaned in over the table and whispered.

“What the hell is your problem kid? You can’t be spouting out shit like that.” Rob looked over his shoulder to see a young woman who seemed to have just entered shop (Vanessa). I hope she didn’t hear this clown. Lex raised an eyebrow.

“What? Are you scared about what we saw on the news earlier? Fuck ‘em! They don’t need my blood to know whether or not I have a power!” Lex said loudly as he held out his palm that now had dark red electricity dancing across it. “And fuck you too. I don’t need you on this job. Go circle jerk with those geezers on the east coast.” Lex wasn’t really that mad, he was just flexing his muscle. He figured sooner or later he’d have to really go solo, and California was his chance at doing that. Rob however was pissed. He shook his head furiously before getting up from his chair and walking out. He couldn’t even say what he wanted to his nephew.

“Don’t come crying back to my ass when they stuff you in a test tube.” Rob said as he left the coffee shop.

“That’s cool. I guess I’ll pay the bill too… What a crybaby.” Lex said as he sat back and smiled. He eyed the same woman that Rob had looked at a few seconds before. “Care to join?” He offered before sipping his coffee. He wasn’t 100% serious, but when was he?

Elena Reese

Star Bucks Twenty Blocks From the Glendale Campus, Los Angeles California.

As Elena drove down the street she could easily feel the heat in her car getting much higher even for California summer it was getting extremely stuffy in there. She closed the windows to her car so that the hot air wouldn't get in as much and turned the AC up as high as it could and turned on the radio. There was a sudden news report of something happening at Disney World apparently some floats caught on fire as well as some guests and staff fainting from heat exhaustion.

The drive wasn't that far from campus or even her own apartment she eventually made it to the Star Bucks she usually frequented during either breaks in classes or just a quick meal to get. Elena found an open parking spot and slowly parked her car, the moment she got out Elena could feel the heat and started to wipe away some of the sweat on her face. Elena quickly walked inside seeing several people had already come inside to just get out of the heat, she headed over towards the cashier when it was her turn. "I'll have a coffee, and a turkey sandwich please."

The cashier nodded as they quickly put in the order when they made it Elena paid for her meal and walked over towards an empty table and sat down opening a newspaper that someone had just left there. Elena rolled her eyes as more of the Bennet Act was on there. The news was getting boring about it but knew that it was more of a threat to her, and she would have to keep her abilities a secret from everyone.

Derrick followed the orange Mustang, keeping back, but not so far that he'd lose her. After a brief drive she pulled into a Starbucks parking lot and got out, locking the car before she went inside. He pulled into the space next to her and turned off the bike. Helmet of he set it on the seat, unzipped his jacket and turned to state at the building.

"A fecking Starbucks," he muttered. "Why's it hafta be a Starbucks?" He mentally bemoaned his poor fate and prayed this chick wasn't a preppy wannabe. She didn't look it but looks didn't mean much.

Going inside he got in line behind her, doing his best to look at the menu on the wall and not at her, as people ordered their non-fat soy lattes and their frappuchinos and other such ridiculous nonsense.

"Sir?" He blinked as the voice intruded on his irritated musings and glanced down. There was a gap between him and the register and the lady there was giving him an expectant look.

"Oi, feck me. Sorry 'bout that. I was off in me own little world there. I'd like jest a black coffee, please. Not'in fancy, ye know?"

He paid for his coffee, added some cream and about a half a cup of sugar and searched around the place until he found the girl. She was sitting at a small table, coffee and a sandwich in front of her. She was looking through a newspaper and a glance around told him the chair opposite her was the only empty spot left in the place so he strode over before he could lose his nerve and stopped at the table, one hand on the back of the chair.

"Um... sorry but this looks like tha only empty spot left ta sit," he said, his accent a little thicker than usual. "D'ya mind if I join ye fer a minute?"

Lex Henderson
Los Angeles, California

Lex drank his coffee alone for a bit before one of his phones buzzed in his pocket. He ignored all of the stares he was getting due to his earlier exposure of his power. His audience was filled with both fear and disgust. Now that Evos were exposed, some people saw them as a threat. Lex understood why, and he agreed with the sensible people who perceived his kind as dangerous.

“Who’s speaking?” Lex answered arrogantly. “Oh it’s you again? I figured you’d hit me up again…. Yeah I’ll take the job for you… What’s in it for me? I mean, I need something… Hmm I think you should up it… There we go, now we’re talking. Give me all the info you got on this thing and I’ll have what you want in no time.” Lex hung up his cellphone and stood up from his seat. He strolled over to the woman at the cash register while digging in his black leather wallet for some cash. Lex wasn’t one to be organized< so he fumbled through his dollar bills before cursing under his breath and just pulling one of his many twenty dollar bills from his wallet. “You can keep the change.” Lex said as he handed the nervous woman his money. He smiled at her insecurity before turning and heading for the door.

“Th- Thank you.” The woman struggled to say as Lex exited to the outside.

“Fuck.” Lex let out as he felt the sun beat down on him. He quickly took off his jacket and waved for a cab. A few had passed him by, and he was already beginning to sweat. He wished he would have dressed lighter, but it wasn’t this hot earlier. “Come on. Come on. I need to get into some AC.” Lex mumbled as a cab stopped in front of him. Perfect. Lex entered the cab and exhaled in pleasure as he felt the cold air from the air conditioning in the car.

“Where to?” The man asked as Lex rubbed his forehead.

“Uh… You know where that school is that got fucked up? I’m… I’m going around there, so if you could drop me off close to there.” Lex fabricated. He knew his client would provide him with some valuable information, but he needed to collect his own firsthand knowledge on things as well. The more he knew, the easier his job would be, the faster he would get it done and that just meant he got paid sooner rather than later.

“Yeah, I got you.” The driver agreed. Lex smirked as he just knew that things would start getting interesting .

As Elena was reading through the news paper she leaned back in her seat enjoying the cup of coffee she had as well as the sandwich she had, she looked around wondering if there were any others like her in the room. "Um... sorry but this looks like tha only empty spot left ta sit," he said, his accent a little thicker than usual. "D'ya mind if I join ye fer a minute?" Elena lowered the news paper, her hazel eyes looking up at Derrick asking her if he could sit down next to her. Seeing no harm in it at all she shrugged slightly and smiled. "Go on right ahead." Elena said softly as she took a sup from her coffee and set it down.

She watched as the man sat down in the seat before setting the news paper aside and slid it over towards him. "I'm finished reading it if you wanted to, I found it on the table anyway." Elena said as she ran a hand through her hair and looked at her phone for a moment seeing she still had time. "So, what brings you here today?" Elena asked wanting to make small conversation with him.

Derrick sat, self consciously adjusting his leather vest. He sometimes forgot that he wasn't the savory looking type. Thick beard and a heavy belt knife strapped to his leg, most people acted nervous around him. This girl didn't seem even a little nervous though. Probably because she had some power to protect herself.

"Kind o' ye," he said and took a drink of his coffee. "I'm jest ridin' around, really. Jest lost me job up in Sacramento recently, so lookin' fer somethin' new, ye know?" He took the offered paper and held it up so that it blocked the view of their table from the rest of the shop.

"Actually, I'd stopped ta have a smoke not far from here and I saw somethin' interestin'. A girl with an orange mustang. She waved her hand over tha battery and the bleeding car just roared ta life. Damdest thing I ever saw." He lowered his voice so no one else would hear him. "Now, don't go worryin'. I ain't gonna out ye."

He focused, pressing an image into his mind and small motes of light gathered on the table in front of them. In seconds a half a dozen small fat characters were walking silently along the table. The seven dwarfs from snow white gathered at the base of his coffee cup. After debating amongst themselves one of them produced a rope with a grappling hook attached and threw it high into the air, for them. It hooked on the edge of his cup and they started climbing up the side.

"I'm a bit different meself, jest thought I'd say hello. Me names Derrick." He held his hand or as the dwarves reached the top of his cup and stood staring down into his coffee. "It's a pleasure ta meet ye."

Vanessa walked in and saw two men, who made her a little suspicious, sitting in the local coffee shop. When the barista saw her walk in, she directly started on the usual order. She smiled at the girl behind the counter and kept an ear close to what those men where discussing about. It seemed to be a pretty heated conversation and when they said something about an Evo her eyes widened in a little shock. She looked back at the girl behind the counter but kept her ears open.

Once her order was ready she took it and nodded to the girl. She saw how the older men left and looked at the guy that seemed to be not really in a good mood. ''Sorry, I have to work. Maybe some other time'' she said but placed her order on the table and whispered. ''You need to lower your voice, next time you talk about those creatures'' she kinda hissed under her breath, yet when he would look in her eyes he could see that she wasn't a 'hater' or something. She then stood straight again and walked away with her order.

Elena raised an eyebrow as Derrick moved the newspaper over the edge of the table and opened it up so that it was blocking the rest of the view to the restaurant. When her mentioned what he saw startled her, Elena didn't realize she had been watched when she started up her old rusted car and instantly knew that he was talking about her and the use of her ability. Then she caught a small light glowing in the corner of her eye and looked down at the table, and jumped slightly when she noticed seven glowing little dwarves.

Elena's eye met Derrick's for a second and watched with interest as the little dwarves moved up the cup of coffee, and instantly knew that he was an Evo like she was. She had never came into contact with anyone of her kind before, since most evos like herself tried to keep things secret, and she was relieved when Derrick said he wouldn't rat her out for being who she was.

"That is a rather interesting ability." Elena said as she lifted up her hand, to show Derrick what her ability was up close as small bolts of electricity flowed from finger tip to finger tip. "I'm Elena it nice to meet you." She said she didn't want to extent her hand out towards in knowing he would get a harmless little shock from her. "I kind of freaked out my homophobic parents when I came out to them, and lets just say everything electronic went haywire and event blew out some lights and what not. I pretty much moved out right away since that night." Elena admitted.

Derrick nodded. "Yeah, me own powers caused some troubles back home." The dwarves vanished, fading into tiny motes of light before vanishing all together. "Me Da' was being' talked ta by some o' that IRA and when one o' them found out what I could do they threatened ta out me ta the government unless me Da' did some work for them."

He took a drink of his coffee and shrugged his broad shoulders. "Da' packed us all up and we headed fer the states as soon as possible after that. I wasn't stupid enough that I couldn't figure out it was my fault, so as soon as I was old enough I left, gave them the opportunity to go back home if they wanted."

"So what is it that ye, can do?" he asked after a minute of awkward silence. "Do ye create electricity or absorb it or something'?"

Lex Henderson
Los Angeles, California

After an uneventful taxi ride, Lex found himself a few blocks away from site where the school once stood. He would have gotten a lot closer but between the heavy flow of traffic and the road blockades, it wasn’t happening. He didn’t enjoy having to walk in this heat, but a job had to be done. Besides, he had to prove a point to his uncle that there was real business for men like them out here on the west coast.

As he strolled near what used to be the school, Lex kept an eye out for law enforcement in the area. He couldn’t believe how the school now looked, but he needed to keep focus. From the looks of things, Lex would say that the authorities were still trying to dig bodies out. People waited outside the barricades, though they wanted to so badly push past them to find their loved ones. Lex sighed knowing he wouldn’t be getting by the barricade too easily. Just great… I should have known this would be the case… I don’t even know where to start. Lex looked towards a man who was waiting outside the barricade.

“Do they know who did it?” Lex asked the stranger.

“No… It’s been the same old story for the past half an hour. School was here, and then the school was flattened. No doubt in my mind that it was one of those freaks.” The man sounded tired of not knowing what was going on. His frustration was easy to read as he furrowed his eye brows and grit his teeth behind the concealment of his lips.

“Damn… Those damn monsters think they can do whatever they want now that cat is out of the bag.” Lex commented with disgust.

“Yeah.” The man said as Lex’s words seemed to echo in his thoughts. He looked to an officer texting on her phone as he balled his fists. “Hey! How about you do your damn job and find out who did this! My daughter is probably dead and all you care about is fucking texting! You already know it was one of those freaks!”

Lex took a step back and smirked as the man exploded with anger. Lex always felt he had a way with getting people to react how he wanted, and this was no different. The man had said what several had already been thinking. His sudden outburst made them speak out as well.

Perfect, now to look for the few people that are way too… Lex’s eye color suddenly changed from a brown to a dark red. With the color, his vision also changed. Using his powers, Lex was able to see the bioelectric signatures of others given off by their neural impulses. Right now he could see a lot of panicked and angered people, police officers on edge, and rescue authorities either exhausted or stressed. Lex scanned around before spotting someone who was a bit off by himself. …calm. Bingo.

Lex’s eyes shifted back with a blink as he made his way toward the man who was on his phone. Lex wasn’t very book smart, but his cleverness got him very far. Lex did something very out of order as he walked quickly towards the man who was now wondering what Lex’s deal was.

“I know why you’re here” Lex said confidently as he stared the man down. The man’s eyes widened in shock instead of confusion, and that’s when Lex knew something was up. The man pushed Lex and began running from the scene. “Really?” Lex said as he allowed his eyes to change vision again. “This should be fun.” He said quietly to himself before walking after the man. Since he could see the man’s bioelectric presence, he was not too afraid of him getting a head start. Lex gave the man quite a distance while he tried to get out of the sight of local law enforcement. Once Lex was at a distance he deemed fine, he took a breath. Dark red electricity suddenly flashed around his body, before vanishing. He had charged his nerves and muscles with an electrical pulse before striding forward and moving at inhuman speed. At the moment he was holding the speed of about 30 miles an hour, not extremely fast, but he figured it was enough. He could tell the man was trying to use back alleys to escape, which Lex found to be convenient for him. Lex didn’t want to catch this guy in a crowd. He liked attention, but that was doing too much.

Lex followed the man, to a deaden d, but it wasn’t by the man’s incompetence. The man held a silenced 9mm pistol up towards Lex who smiled at the sight.

“Damn you’re better than I thought you’d be.” Lex said as he watched the man squeeze the trigger.

Johanna Phillips
Unknown Alleyway
Los Angeles, California

"Cover me."

A sinister smile spreads across her bright painted red lips as she nods her head in agreement. The brunette adjust her position behind the large metal dumpster so that she has a clearer view of her target whilst her colleague gets ready to make a dash towards the cardboard boxes on the opposing wall. She tries her best to contain her amusement as her colleague signals her he is ready to go. Good luck my friend. As soon as he is on his feet guns start blazing. To her time seems to almost slow down as her eyes shift between the bullets trying to find any that could prove fatal. Luckily for her, their target was using an old school pistol which made it much easier for her to deflect the bullets aimed at her partner. She barely moved as the bullets unnaturally changed their direction. If you just looked at her in that moment you would never believe someone so petite could be the holder of such a powerful gift.

The more frustrated her target became the more amusement she felt. Her face became slightly more serious when the last bullet of his magazine exits the chamber. It was heading straight for her colleagues head. Killshot. Just like before, with barely any movement from her the bullet shifts from its original path. Even though she could've quite easily sent the bullet into a nearby wall she let it pierce straight through her colleague's shoulder. Her partner let's out a loud cry of agony before collapsing to the ground. She instantly breaks out in a soft chuckle before rising to her feet. Enough games...time to finish this. Her right arm flings towards her target who is still nervously fiddling around with his weapon trying his best to load it as fast as possible. Unfortunately for him as the last of her fingers outstretch themselves an invisible force rapidly shifted towards him. The force was so strong it threw him two metres back straight into the cement wall. A loud crack could be heard as his head collided with the wall. It was then followed by an even louder thump as he fell to the ground unconscious.

"What the fuck Johanna?"

"Oh stop being such human Thomas," Johanna snickered as she help her colleague back to his feet. "It barely even grazed you...and anyway you deserved that," she spoke in a slightly colder tone.

"Are you kidding me? It's stuck inside..." Thomas pulls off half his jacket to reveal a small but very deep puncture wound in his left shoulder. Before the two could continue to bicker the rest of their squadron arrived, including Agent Black also known as 'The Enforcer'. Agent Black is also Johanna's mentor of sorts and the sergeant of this particular sector of Quantum, 'CEE' (Capturing & Extermination of EVOS).

"What happened here?" Johanna instinctively straightened up her back hearing Agent Black deep husky voice. Something about that man seemed to make her want to 'behave' herself and act like a professional...well, most of the time.

"She got me shot on purpose cause I ate her stupid chocolate mousse," Thomas was quick to jump in and of course throw Johanna under the bus. It didn't really bother her because after all it was the truth but anyway she two had an scapegoat.

"Sorry but my power glitched...you know that tends to happen in stressful situation," Johanna replies innocently but the fact that she had a huge grin on her face made it not very believable. "...at least the target is unharmed...well besides the giant gush on his head but other than that his in one piece." She quickly decided to add knowing that Agent Black was all for accomplishing mission and increasing his squadron's statistics.

"Good job Johanna. However, next time our target is 'normal' and holds useful information try to use less force and try not to harm them in the head." Agent Black signals two agents to collect the target and place him in the back of a black SUV that is parked on the curb. "And Thomas next time don't eat other agents' food," Agent Black winked at Johanna before following the other agents out of the alleyway.

"Come on.." Johanna mutters as she places one arm around Thomas for support seeing his face turn paler by the minute. The pair proceeded to the vehicle. Johanna tried her best to ignore the stares they were receiving once they entered back into the main street. Even though she is working for an organisation that is technically trying to protect the 'normal' people she personally couldn't stand them. To her they were just as bad as evos, weaker but just as foul.

Vanessa Summevile

Some Alley in L.A, Callifornia

Vanessa felt on edge after returning from the coffee shop. That guy that had sarcastically asked her too join was one of them.. Those that she did belong too. She looked around, there was no costumer in the shop and with this heat no body would soon come. ''Miss Anderson? Could I maybe go for a little walk?'' she asked. ''Oh well, it is not that busy'' the other lady said. ''Go ahead'' she then said. Vanessa smiled and took her purse, she then walked out of the store and into a alley close by.

''Okay.. Let's try this once again..'' Vanessa whispered to herself and then looked at the other side of the alley. She closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she suddenly stood where she just had looked at. She did feel a little dizzy though. ''I must master this thing..'' she whispered to herself again and from her purse she took a little part of a chocolate bar. She then turned around and tried it again, this time a little closer, from where she was standing to the lantern like four feet away.

She closed her eyes and felt herself knocked against the lantern pole. ''Ouch'' Vanessa said and sighed. She then though of that guy again and came to the great idea to try to find him. How, she didn't know but she wanted to know more from him. She then looked around and saw a fire stairs from a building and 'poofed' to it. She felt victorious when she actually managed to get there without ending up somewhere in the sky.

She looked around and saw a lot of alleys, she then pictured her to a other balcony and from there she could see the old school and from there she also saw the guy and some other male. She looked at what happened and when the guy from the coffee shop started to run, she ran down from the fire stairs and followed them. She mostly ran normally and 'poofed' a few times. She then hided behind a wall as the guy was held under shot.

Being pretty rude or not, she knew she could help him and she had to do it. She looked behind the man and 'poofed' to
it yet crashed into some trashcans and made a lot of noise. The man with the 9mm turned around to look at her. ''Hi!'' she said and smiled. ''I would like you to put that thing down... Someone could get wounded'' she said and smiled.

Lex Henderson
Some Alley, Los Angeles

“I’ll ask you once, and only once… Why the hell are you following me?” The man that Lex had chased down said as he steadied his aim so he could get a clean shot. He could tell Lex was an Evo just by his eyes at the moment. Sure, the red sparks that would streak across skin every few seconds was the biggest indicator, but the man just couldn’t keep his eyes off of Lex’s.

“Because you ran away from me when I wanted to talk.” Lex said simply. He didn’t make any sudden movements, mostly because he figured he might be able to get this guy to tell him something if they just talked. “My turn. What’s your business with the school?” Lex asked the man who didn’t change his demeanor one bit. The man didn’t utter a word as he tried to read Lex, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. “Hello..? Are you thinking about what type of lie to tell me, because I don’t have all day?” Lex smirked he started to figure the man out whose bioelectric patterns suggested that he was in deep thought, and mostly confused about something.

“You have to be fucking kidding me… You don’t know a god damn thing do you?” The man said with his eyes wide. He was ready to end this conversation quick. He’d make sure to cover this whole thing up. He’d never admit to a fuck up, especially when he was an agent of Quantum. Then… poof, a girl appeared right behind him. He mouthed “What the…” as she spoke to him. His gun was now trained on her, but he couldn’t fire. As a matter of fact, he couldn’t move.

Lex stood menacingly beside the man with his arm around him and his hand on his shoulder. The two almost looked like they could be the best of friends in Lex’s opinion. Honestly, the Quantum agent looked terrified by the current predicament as his body locked up. Lex just kept up his grin as he spoke softly into the agent’s ear.

“You were exactly right. I didn’t know a thing. I will soon though.” Lex said before widening his eyes and using his ability to drain enough electricity from the man’s body to make him go limp and fall on the ground. The man fell sloppily and face planted into the alley floor. Lex winced, but it was more to be comical than empathetic. Lex’s red eyes soon met with the girl he had recognized at the coffee shop. She had said something to him, but he couldn’t really recall. He was surprised to see her have a power that let her pop up out of nowhere, but was gladder that the random pop up gave him a quick edge over the agent. He let out a hand to help her onto her feet. “Nice power and all, but I’m gonna need you to start explaining yourself or you’ll end up like my buddy on the floor… And don’t lie.” Lex said the last part seriously.

''Well thanks for trusting me enough to think I would lie'' Vanessa said and rolled her eyes. She looked at his hand and then grabbed it so she could stand up again. ''Pffft... I so need to train on it..'' she said to herself and when was done with brushing herself clean, she grabbed her bag and took out of it a chocolate bar. ''Wait a moment'' she said and then took a bite, eating it pretty fast and taking another bite.

Once done, she looked at the guy again. ''I am Vanessa, nice to meet you'' she then said. ''Don't look so weird at me... I get dizzy from poofing around'' she said and giggled seeing him raise a eyebrow. ''That's how I call it'' she said. ''It's actually teleportation.. But I can not go trough time and such.. Or think of China and be there... I must see my next destination'' she said. ''I was taking a walk and did some poofing when I saw you and that guy over there'' she said and smiled. ''So, I thought that maybe I could help'' she said and shrugs. ''It was nice to meet someone like me.. We might have been exposed but we all try to keep it a secret so badly.. I personally know since two years that I have these powers.. It still kinda scares the crap out of me'' she said. The guy was pretty tall to her, but everyone was, or mostly everyone older than eight-teen was.
