@ProPro I'm glad you think so, because it was getting awkward to say anything after feeling that way. I've got another set for you, because I need to do something until the OOC pops up.
- What is the name of the town that this takes place in? New Earth is an entirely new planet and not just a space colony like Terra Venture. What is it about this town that sets it apart from others? What are points of interests for our characters to be able to pass the time in, such as a bar (like Ernie's juice bar in MMPR) or a cafe (like Cyberspace cafe in Dino Thunder)?
- Are Power Rangers viewed as heroes or 'terrorists' to the population? Has Galatec tried to smear them at every turn, or the less they acknowledge their existence the better off they believe they'll be, since they've been beaten plenty of times?
- Is there any Power Ranger merchandise they could have bought or brought from somewhere? Comic books, figurines, etc. Of course Galatec wouldn't want that, but was there something before they arrived that people could have kept secret?
- Are past ranger teams remembered, from MMPR to the most recent? Not identities, just their teams and themes.
- Tommy created a detailed archive of all teams leading up to his in Dino Thunder. Is it possible that the current mentor could have that information somehow, and then combine it with the alien rangers that were formed since leaving original Earth?
- It's unlikely, but does Galatec allow things like fighting schools to be made available in society? Someone mentioned martial arts, so I wonder if Galatec killed off any possibility of ANYONE knowing how to fight even if it's through self-discipline and peace. Will there be violence in the form of entertainment, such as films? How deep do they put the pacifist ideas into society? Not every hole has to be filled, but the rangers, to me, will need some kind of edge to fight aliens that are already typically stronger than humans as you said. The suits can help them, but learning how to fight is also going to be an uphill battle depending on the skills and occupations of the ranger characters. Of course you can just say "It's Power Rangers" and then everyone magically knows how to fight, too.
@Kouki I'm not saying she won't have pleasant memories. It's that it makes it difficult to provide a diverse background. We're all slaves. We all LOVE working for the corporation because of additives. This is ten years with nothing but working for them to fill most of our days. It's hard to have a normal dream when you're forced to believe that working for Galatec is the greatest pleasure known to man--why would you want anything else when you can just be happy slaving for them? That's my problem: ten years can break any aspiration you might have had growing up. You have lost a decade of your life being forced to believe in this company. This is why I think ten years might be a bit
too much for them to mount a stronger counterattack. I'd want it a little lower than that, but it isn't up to me.
So while we do function as normal people as Pro said, I'd need to see how our characters are freed from this control and function as normal again. You dedicate so much of your life to that style of living that it could hamper other hobbies you could find. Work for a decade at one place, suddenly be let go, and then what? The society is apparently very bland, with the ranger suits meant to bring people hope. This becomes more than just being forced to work, it's making your aspirations die with your will to resist.
Once we get a better idea of what's approved and disapproved in the society, I should have a better understanding of how we are going to function in a world that has become subservient. We are, to the world, the bad guys the minute we wear those suits, because we are threatening a style of living that has kept them peaceful at the expense of greater freedom to dream, and I think that's something each ranger character will have different opinions on when the time comes to think about fighting. They shouldn't want this, at all. But what if what society is had become so ingrained in them that the thought of returning to an older way was almost frightening to them? Why go back when that style of living has just benefit them so well? No one's hurting them, they're maintaining jobs, and they are allowed to do as they wish otherwise.
That's a big dilemma that goes beyond being a ranger. So there's something to these suits and to these colors (and I think Pro said this already) that help them get through to the people under control, encouraging them to see that what's happening to them isn't all them. And like you said, maybe they start thinking about what life was like for them before this willing slave business. They get peace at the expense of their own individual aspirations, which makes the argument of "is it really living if you can't have your own dream?" stronger for the rangers, while "Dreams do nothing but hurt people in the end." becomes something for the Galatec folks.
The moral compass is all over the place, and I'm thinking way too damn much. X.X
EDIT - Thank you guys.
