― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
|Name|Astrid Marie King
|Nickname|Az and/or Azzy are both acceptable versions of her name. Because of her brother, she tends not to go by her surname (ever) if only to avoid confusion.
|Birth Date|1st of December, 1999
|Age|Seventeen
|Gender|Female
|Sexuality|Pansexual
|Sexually Active|No
|Relationship Status|Single And shy.
|Role|Member of Team Blue
|Years At Camp|Two – started when she was fifteen.
|Team Color|❤ Blue ❤
|In Depth Appearance|Standing at 5'1", Astrid is pretty damn small. Despite being naturally slim and dainty she has a face that's still carrying some extra baby-fat, giving her the appearance of someone three or four years younger than she actually is. A strong breeze might blow her over. Nevertheless, she is fairly attractive in a plain, girl next door sort of way. Her ghostly build and large blue eyes are the only features inherited from her mother, and while it's difficult to pin down exactly who she looks like more, family friends have commented in the past that she's the spitting image of her father.
Astrid's natural hair colour is a medium brown, darker than her brother's, but she dyes it to a gloomy shade of purple. Her face is marked by a scattering of small freckles along the bridge of her nose and running lopsidedly up her cheek. The only other distinguishing feature that might be counted is her nail art: she likes to paint her nails and put stickers with little flowers or happy faces or both on them.
Typically Astrid is a bit lazy in how she dresses, almost hipsterish in style. She wears a lot of winged eyeliner. Leather jackets with the sleeves rolled up and plain old shirts, usually in calm blues and greys. She's not one for bright colours. Occasionally Astrid will have the urge to dress more feminine, perhaps in a skirt, but there is always a sense of discomfort around her when her knees are showing.
Scars: Astrid has skinned knees almost constantly and a few scrapes down her legs from when she used to play with the neighborhood cats. One of these is slightly larger, and darker, than the rest that's not from an animal but rather surgery to correct a badly broken bone. Astrid has no tattoos or piercings.
|Habits & Quirks|♡ Eavesdropping – Astrid has a bad habit of stopping in her tracks to listen in to conversations that she's not welcome in.
♡ Stumbling – Over her words, that is. She tends not to be very eloquent, and gets flustered easily, which in turn makes it even harder to say what she wants to.
♡ Crying (in Anger) – It's a very real problem. When all those negative emotions threaten to swallow Astrid up, she can't really voice them, and the frustration leads to tears and vulnerability. She hates it.
♡ Journalling – Astrid writes a lot of things in code, or backwards, just for fun, but also out of an innate fear of someone reading it.
♡ Puzzles – The number of Sudoku and crossword puzzles Astrid has worked her way through on the trip to Camp Liberty itself is astounding. She's an addict for that sort of thing and absolutely will not stop until it's solved.
|Likes & Dislikes|❤ Reading. Books in general. Astrid can get lost in anything from a trashy detective pot-boiler to great works of art.
❤ Well-used and well-loved items: thread-bare jumpers, oversized; scuffed shoes; books with dog-eared pages and doodles on them.
❤ Snail Mail – while Astrid isn't one to reject phoning people up, she does like to send her friends real letters, like penpals.
❤ Hiking through deep forests, pretending to get lost (or actually getting lost). It's like Narnia!
❤ General knowledge. She's a trivia whizkid, and what she lacks in talent she makes up for in memory for pointless facts.
❤ The Bohemian life – sipping coffee on a balcony in Paris, doodling phallic objects with smiley faces in a notebook.
❤ Extreme blanket forts inside which, once constructed, Astrid will quite happily bury herself in cushions and deafen herself with music.
Open bodies of water. Astrid has a minor case of hydrophobia and thalassophobia and a sensible fear of drowning to death.
The painfully long nights that insomnia brings her. Even midnight walks can't shake the emptiness of these times.
Losing. The Kings are competitive, after all – they'll fight until the end.
Speech Therapy. She doesn't need it; she swears she only stutters and stumbles half of the time.
Doors that don't have locks. Astrid values her privacy highly.
Being left out of social situations. For that reason she always forces herself to talk in groups, even if it's nerve-wracking.
Silence. Dead silence. It's always worse when there's silence.
|Fears & Phobias|☠ Drowning – in part because it's embarrassing to drown in front of people, and in part because she doesn't want to die.
☠ Wide Open Spaces – whenever it's empty of all life except her it's something to be scared of. Astrid is scared of being alone.
☠ Abandonment – a very real fear, perpetuated by pen pals who have stopped responding out of the blue.
|Good Traits|♡ Creative
♡ Precocious
♡ Competitive
♡ Optimistic
|Bad Traits|♡ Anxious
♡ Scatterbrained
♡ Stubborn
♡ Introvert
|Personality|"I'll make it, somehow."
Astrid isn't sure she believes the idealistic nonsense that she spews sometimes, but it definitely helps her get through the day. The idea that college is looming on the horizon – that she can one day go through that beautiful metamorphosis they show in the movies – is repeated like a mantra: that's the time when she can break out of her shell and party and speak to other people like she's a normal human being instead of some imposter. (She remembers a time when it was meant to be high school that did that for her, and before that, middle school.)
But, still, that lingering feeling of doubt remains, and it's enough for her to seek out other ways to fill her time than doing essays and studying – things like procrastinating, sleeping away the days, attending therapy sessions and longing for better days.
Astrid has always been someone who prefers indoors to outdoors, who would rather read a book than kick a soccer ball around, and she favours pursuits of the mind. Often when she retreats into herself, she returns to creating wide, wild fantasy worlds with characters who never feel alone. Those who receive letters from her regularly in the months that camp isn't on will know: there has never been a blank sheet of paper that Astrid has not doodled on.
Often and especially at camp, Astrid feels like she has something to prove. With her older brother being so successful, sociable (in a way that reminds a lot of people of Marmite), she is determined to match him stride for stride. Team Blue might have a lot of loud jackasses in it*, and some might think she would better belong in Grey or Green, but she strives to win and has a stubborn streak – a refusal to accept that her team might lose – a mile long.
|Place of Origin|California
|Background|The Golden Child? Astrid is a year younger than her only sibling, Richard King, and she never quite understood why the dynamic in their household was... problematic, to say the least; not until she was a teenager. She knows that her brother suffered – she used to curl up at the bottom of his bedroom door and lean her head against it whenever something went wrong – but whenever she spoke out about it, particularly to their father, it would be turned on her.
Her father is an author, he knows very well how words can hurt just as much as bruises.
So Astrid grew quiet. She lost her confidence. She clung to her brother in almost all situations, especially since high school wasn't treating her kindly. Guilt piled up and piled up from how many problems she was causing, one after another, and she knew that her inability to be independent was wearing on Richard slowly but surely.
Camp Liberty came at the right time. The summer previous that she'd spent while Richard had gone by himself (as Astrid was still sadly too young) was dire, but the following year she managed to go somewhere that threatened to take her introversion away and replace it with cheerful camp activities and the outside world. Astrid loved it – the people she met there, especially – and finds herself looking forward to the summer more than she does the entire school year.
|Extra|Aaaaa, video games?
@HushedWhispers here's my Sierra! I added and changed a few things to her CS, so even though some of you might know her the new CS is worth a read! :D

Makeup-wise, Sierra keeps a face bare of makeup and only wears flavored lip balms and (occasionally) black eyeliner, but her fingernails and toenails are always perfectly groomed and painted in dark colors. Her personal style is described as grungy: tank tops with band names or movie/comic/anime references, hoodies when it's cold, oversized sweaters, dark colors, combat boots/Vans/Converse sneakers, lots of flannel and plaid shirts or dresses, jean shorts and skinny jeans. She stands at 5'8", with a body that's neither too skinny or overweight: just a perfect balance between the two than can be said to be an 'athletic build'. She has four piercings on each ear, and a few small scars on her knees from the few skateboarding accidents she's had.

►Personality◄Sierra is often described as the quirky half of the Jameson sisters: a complete opposite from her older sister Chloe. Upon first impressions, she comes off as a rather cold, serious tomboy that is never amused. In reality, she's a ball of energy that's easily annoyed. Sierra's also the type of girl that's very sarcastic, blunt, skeptical bordering on rude at first, but is really friendly, outgoing and crazy once you battle your way through her barriers and gain her trust. The rebellious part of her comes from the fact that her mother dotes on her older sister and constantly criticizes Sierra, which only makes their relationship more strained and causes Sierra to act up.
When being confronted by someone or something she doesn't particularly like, or when being told what to do or how to think, Sierra will immediately lash out at the culprit without giving a damn about anything. In fact, she lives every aspect of her life without a single care. She's never been interested in being part of the 'it crowd' (too much drama going on), and instead prefers to keep a low profile having fun alongside her fellow rockers, skaters and geeks. She can also be a bit of a bully when it comes to forcing people to do her bidding or endlessly making fun of that uptight crowd that basically rules her high school (which she's happily looking forward to leave already). She is also one to get anything and everything she sets her mind to by doing whatever it takes. Though she likes to go out occasionally to concerts, rock shows, and such, most of the time you can be sure to find Sierra in her room either watching anime, reading manga or playing video games online with her friends. Either there, or she's shredding in the skate park nearby or kicking ass in the paintball fields.
►Place Of Origin◄Providence, Rhode Island
►Background◄Born on July 13th of 1998, to kindergarten teacher Sonya, Sgt. Charles Jameson of the US Army and older sister Chloe, Sierra was welcomed into the world with much enthusiasm: she'd been the missing piece to make the Jameson family complete. The Jameson girls were raised with much love and attention (and the occasional spoiling) in a big, comfortable middle-class home in the suburbs of a quiet, closely-knit town in Providence, Rhode Island. Though they showed very distinctive personalities since they were children, Chloe's and Sierra's differences became more evident as they grew into the tween and teen years, but weren't an obstacle in the girls growing up tight. This tight bond would only strengthen when tragedy struck the Jameson family in the form of Charles' loss in combat when Chloe was thirteen and Sierra was eight.
A year after their father had passed, Chloe and Sierra were introduced to their mother's new boyfriend: a high school English teacher by the name of Shawn Tomers, which she married a year later. While Chloe wasn't too impressed, Sierra was instantly smitten with the dark-skinned man: she'd been the daddy's girl of the sisters, and finding another father figure to look up to now that her hero had passed came as an absolute blessing to her. Since she'd been introduced to him, Sierra and Shawn had become inseparable, to the point in which he spoiled her as his own. This, combined with her mother's constant preference of Chloe over Sierra, caused the mother-daughter's relationship to be extremely strained. Shawn and Chloe often found themselves in the middle of the arguments between these hot-headed women, but there's not really much one can do when two people with such strong opinions clash.
Out of respect for Charles and the memories that they had built in the old home, the Jameson-Tomers family moved into a house closer to where Sonya and Shawn went, but none of this affected Chloe and Sierra. What did affect Sierra greatly was the loss of her father. She had always been easily angered, but after Charles' passing Sierra grew even more intolerant and often got into fights with people who bullied her. Soon enough, kids in the playground knew not to mess with her, and she was pretty much shunned out. Sierra didn't really care about this, and found solace in the world of video games instead. It was back in middle school when she finally made a few friends (gamers, skaters and rockers like herself), and when she decided to do other things besides play games or watch anime. Soon enough, Sierra was a regular at the paintball fields and the skate parks, and was absolutely adored by her friends and said communities. Finally, she found her place, people who understood her and liked her for who she was. A particular one by the name of Leo Masterson (the one taking the pic, black shirt) caught her eye when she was sixteen, and the 18 year-old was also smitten with her. After two months of dating they made it official, but eventually broke up six months later.
The day that Chloe had to leave for college was one of the few days in which Sierra had been a mess. Her older sister was everything to her, and knowing that they'd have to be away from each other for so long really upset them. On the good side, Sierra thought that this would mean a cease in her mother's criticism, but she turned out to be wrong. Now that Sierra was the only one left in the family home, it made it easier for Sonya to find further faults in her younger daughter. While Chloe was at college doing great things, back home Sierra and Sonya got into near-daily arguments that After a particularly nasty falling out (and because she just wanted a break from her rebellious daughter), Sonya had decided to send Sierra away for the summer. Though Shawn tried his hardest to intervene, his wife's mind was made up. Sierra Jameson would be spending her summer in LA'S Camp Liberty: all the way across the country.

Opposite of Adults | Holding On For Life
►Full Name◄Nicoletta Tiziana Soriano
►Nickname◄Nicole: It sounds far less formal than Nicoletta which is mostly used when her parents are around.
Nikki if you're among her circle of friends, though she abhors being called Nikki; what are friends for, right?
Nico: Someone called her Nico once and she didn't dislike it, though she thinks it's because they forget her name was Nicoletta
►Birth Date◄September 23, 1998
►Age◄17
►Gender◄Female
►Sexuality◄Homosexual, Closeted
►Relationship Status◄Single, because It's Complicated
►Sexually Active◄Frustratingly No
►Team Color◄Ideally? Pink. But somehow she wound up in GREEN
►Years At Camp◄This is her first
►In Depth Appearance◄Were anyone from her high school to see her at camp they might have to do a double take because the Nicoletta Soriano of Burbank High looks a bit different from the Nicoletta Soriano of Camp Liberty. Where one was always seen in the most designer outfits pulled from the pages of magazines and vetted by more savvy sorts, one now has a preference for the simple: jeans, shirts with words on them (such a faux pas), Chucks, and bracelets that might come out of a Vans. Nicoletta's outfits are not going for fashion or style as she was when walking the halls with her gaggle of girls opting instead for more 'normal' and fitting attire. She's aping the 'low effort' style if only because she has no discernible eye for fashion or style at all. But then, that's what searching for identity is about, surely?
Nicoletta's hair is medium length and quite shiny for a muddy brown, matching her muddy eyes. At five foot six she's not going to be standing above anyone and her pale skin is not going to have her standing out much as well, which is actually rather nice for a change. Old habits do die hard and while she has brought just a bit too much makeup with her, most days at camp she either foregoes it altogether. Nicoletta has the figure of a perpetually benched athlete, in that while she is trim and 'in shape', lack of any regular routine has left her with...call it 'extra' around the waist and torso.
Nicoletta is rather soft spoken but when her voice IS heard, chances are it comes tinged with a slight accent while blending with her mellow tone.
►Habits & Quirks◄
- She bites her lip when thinking, but in a way that makes her look as if she has to go to the bathroom
- Often interjects sentences with 'um' as you do when you're a teenager with little to actually say
- Frequently slips into Italian when frustrated, annoyed, or just to show off to someone she's trying to impress
- Eats her pasta with a spoon, like a damned lunatic that must be stopped.
- When sitting, she observes great posture and doesn't seem to comprehend people that sit differently, to the point where she'll remark on it
- Hums in the shower. She would sing but there are people around and she doesn't know them.
►Likes & Dislikes◄✔ Tennis
✔ Loud Rap Music Played at Unreasonable Hours
✔ Pad Thai. It's absolutely amazing. Thai food in general, really.
✔ Caramel squares
✔ Black Cherry Kool Aid, the best flavor. Fights will start if someone dares disagree with her.
✔ Candle Figures. In her room at home she has around twelve. Her favorite is a wizard she bought at a trade show. She was told it was Gandalf but she just thinks it's a cool looking wizard.
✔ Hawaiian Salad, the thing with the oranges and marshmallows and cherries
✔ MMORPGs, or rather one specifically. It was better before they changed it. A classmate had a free trial code, gave it to her as a token of affection, she got into it. Less so the poor guy but that's how it goes.
✘ That one show people like. You know, the one with the guys and the things.
✘ Math in all its varieties; it's the one class she's failing
✘ Starbucks. Coffee in general, really. No one drinks it for the taste, right? Because ugh
✘ Food trucks. The people that run them freak her out with their aggressive sales tactics and bad food
✘ Music that has guitars in it. Rock is dead. Deal with it.
✘ Gossip Rags. She's had enough of them to last forever.
✘ In-Shell Peanuts. The cracking of the shells and the skins are just...ugh
►Fears & Phobias◄Rejection. While many people fear being rejected by, say, a crush or something, Nicoletta fears being rejected by not just her peers but by her old fashioned, traditionalist family. She wishes she could get rejected by a crush, because at least then she'd have been brave enough to do something other than pine in misery.
Bees. While not a phobia, Nicoletta just absolutely hates bees. It goes without saying that the big baddies, the hornets and wasps of the world, get no love from her either.
Driving. Nicoletta hasn't got her driver's license yet simply because she doesn't like being behind the wheel. The last time she drove, with her permit, she wound up freezing up and hitting a mail box at the post office. It took weeks to buff out the blue residue.
►Good Personality Traits◄Curious, enough to want to expand her horizons and try new things...within reason.
Friendly. Despite her social circle in school, Nicoletta is willing to be friends with damn near everyone that asks
Humorous. Nicoletta knows and understands the value and appeal of a great joke.
Mellow. Though she enjoys some physical activities as any one does, Nicoletta is the master at letting things slide. Chill.
►Bad Personality Traits◄Dishonest. By the sheer fact that she's lying to herself she is by extension lying to damn near everyone she meets.
Meek. It's easy for others to impose their influence on her. Easily swayed.
Forgetful. It's hard to remember appointments.
Judgmental. She knows she shouldn't, given her own situation, but she always makes snap judgments about people based on the worst things, such as appearance or style.
Pessimistic.
►Personality◄In the world there are leaders and there are followers, at least that's what practically every motivational speaker would tell you; but in the case of Nicoletta? It's absolutely true. Much of her life has been spent simply doing what others have told her to do with little regard for her own thoughts on the matter. It was one thing when her papa asked her to help out. It was another when suddenly the girls she hung out with at school were telling her what to do, who to associate with, and what matched with what. Nicoletta has been a follower for as long as she could remember, which is already far too long.
It's rare to see Nicoletta without a smile. However, when Nicoletta smiles it never seems to be out of genuine joy, and she only ever appears to contribute to conversations amongst her supposed peers in the vaguest manner possible. She's one of the popular crowd in school by virtue of the most shallow reasons possible and she knows that but sees no reason why she can't take advantage of that while it lasts. She wants to just be herself, but that's become harder and harder as she isn't quite sure who she is or what she wants...only that she doesn't want to suffer more talk over who's hooking up with who.
To her credit, she has begun taking steps to breaking out of her meek shell, starting by speaking up more and trying to let her voice be heard among a group of people damn near deaf to anything other than their own inflated egos. Nicoletta doesn't want to enter into adulthood having not made a single decision for herself, and with the end of the teenage years looming on the horizon, she hopes that a place free from the expectations of others will lead to some deep soul searching. A lot can change over the summer. Nicoletta is counting on it.
►Place Of Origin◄Genoa, Italy. Resides in Berkeley, Californa
►Background◄Nicoletta was born in Italy to Marco Soriano and Laura Soriano. Their only child, Nicoletta enjoyed a rather uneventful youth, often being left to her own devices while her parents were busying themselves with their careers: Marco being a chef and Laura a photographer mostly known for travel sites and food blogs. Nicoletta can't recall much of note from her youth in Italy; it was a fairly average and thus un-noteworthy childhood. Things took a turn when Nicoletta's uncle Stefano came to the house with a proposition for Marco.
Stefano had a failing business in America that he was willing to give full ownership over to Marco, knowing that Marco often dreamed of opening his own restaurant. And so at the age of twelve Nicoletta was moved from Italy to America. By the time she was fourteen and entering high school, Soriano's was one of L.A.'s hottest restaurants, noted for its frequent celebrity appearances and the quality of its menu. When Nicoletta entered high school still getting used to the country, she found herself being roped into the popular circle not due to her looks or style (which were un-noteworthy) but because her family name was plastered over magazines and tabloids.
Not knowing any better, or perhaps just glad to be accepted, Nicoletta allowed herself to be swept along with little fuss. She was popular, even if it came with the unfortunate side effect of having to change herself for the approval of others. Sure, it felt nice to be part of something, but it was less nice when she was told that people she wanted to be friends with were actually not someone she wanted to be friends with. The only decisions Nicoletta made for herself were what two electives she took and what she had for lunch. Nicoletta wanted to go out for the tennis team, but was pulled into a trip to the mall when tryouts were taking place, and that was just one of the moments where she had to put her own wants aside for the sake of other people.
Her papa is pushing her to a business degree, wanting her to one day take over ownership of Soriano's while her mother is not so subtly mentioning how some of her new friends have 'boys around your age, Nicoletta'. Neither of those interest her, but all Nicoletta believes she can do is look for colleges with good business programs and smile and nod through awkward set-up dates with people she has no romantic or physical attraction to. Her life has never really been hers, and she hates that. She hates that she hasn't been able to speak up. She hates that she's on a path she was put on. But most of all she hates that she just grins and bears it.
Nicoletta convinced her parents to let her attend Camp Liberty. It was one of the first decisions she made on her own terms, and she hopes it will lead to her being able to finally live life on her own terms.
But first she has to find out what it is she wants.
►Extra◄Arguing with people over their bad opinions on things.
