Going on an indefinite hiatus from this site due to burnout, mental fatigue, and long working hours. Thanks everyone for the amazing RPs I've been in over these many months!
Mesarthim, a race of human-like beings born with a diamond-shaped jewel embedded in the center of their forehead (Eve's jewel is usually hidden by his hair) and enchanting, mystical eyes that change color based on their emotions. When a Mesarthim's eyes turn blood red — well, you don't want to see what happens when a Mesarthim's eyes turn blood red. Mesarthim are believed to have come from the stars. They are a rather solitary race, mostly residing in the Mesarthim Citadel, the mesarthim palace floating on the ocean off the coast of Arcane Junction.
"You have yet to see the meaning of fear..." —Eve, with blood red eyes
CLASS
Summoner
Appearance
As with all Mesarthim, Eve's most distinctive features are the jewel embedded in the center of his forehead and his enchanting eyes that shift colors based on his emotions, giving him an otherworldly and mystical sort of beauty. As is the culture of the Mesarthim, he almost exclusively wears white clothing of refined silks and fabrics, with his body adorned with opulent crystals and jewelry.
His curly hair often hides his Mesarthim Jewel, while his neck is slender, and his lips are plump and full, giving him a kissable, delicate, and svelte kind of appearance. He is said to heavily resemble his mother, a claim he holds with great pride, as she was a great woman herself and a renowned beauty.
Eve is not a particularly tall individual, only standing somewhere between 5'8" and 5'9", though his slender body and proportioned limbs make him seem a little taller than he actually is. He's got a toned body like a swimmer but lacks the muscle mass that one would expect from a Fated chosen. Due to his regal and prim appearance, people often underestimate him.
"I've been told that I am a reflection of her." —Eve
HISTORY
Born within the mesarthim palace, called the Mesarthim Citadel, Eve had a carefully curated upbringing that prepared him to be the person that he is today. Having been prophesized to be a Fated chosen one long before he was even born, Eve grew up sheltered from the outside world in a sense. With the Mesarthim Citadel being a prosperous micro-nation and academic institution unto itself, Eve spent a great deal of his time learning and being trained in the ways of a summoner.
You see, Mesarthim are naturally attuned to magic, so many leave the palace to seek additional education in the magical arts at the universities that litter the Arcane Junction. Almost all of the Mesarthim who pursue this route, achieve moderate to great success. But, very few become a Summoner. This is a specialized field sacred to the Mesarthim, and the training one must undergo to become one is done at the Mesarthim Citadel, where there is usually only one Summoner at a time.
With his mother being a famed Summoner herself, she trained Eve on the path that her father trained her on, as was their legacy. He would first serve as a Funerailles, officiating seaside burials for the duly departed. Gathering a deep and keen understanding of death and remembrance was a key step in the path of a Summoner. Next, he must learn to control his emotions and harness his natural psychic ability, a natural gift of his Mesarthim jewel and passed down to him by his mother.
Fun was never something he was allowed to have, not like his peers. His days were long and monotonous and weary. Studying and training and learning and working as a Funerailles, day in and day out, until his head ached ceaselessly and his eyes blurred from reading endless texts, volumes, and tomes. But on the day he finally became a summoner, his mother disappeared. Did she die? Was she kidnapped?
But some time later, a strange figure resembling himself began appearing in his dreams. Of all the faces he remembers, his mother is the only one he can't recall, as if the memory of her had been stolen from him. Due to the striking resemblance they share, Eve believes it to be his mother visiting him in his sleep. However, the current whereabouts and status of his actual mother are unknown.
He began referring to the mysterious dream being as Mother. Plagued by longing, Mother gave Eve the comfort he'd been craving and looking for since his actual mother's vanishing. But when Mother suddenly stopped visiting Eve's dreams, his slumber soon turned into a time of nightmares. Eve now has to take a special tonic to keep the nightmares at bay. As part of his Summoner training, there was a period where he had been tasked to use his psychic power to give people nightmares, so sometimes he wonders if the nightmares are retribution for the fear he instilled in others.
But now that he has been chosen as a Fated one, as was prophesized, he hopes that along his journey, he can find a certain someone to put an end to his nightmares forever.
"Goodnight, love." —Eve's Mother, her final words to him
FEARS
Eve fears that he will never be able to live up to his mother's legacy. She was a famed summoner who did a lot of good in the world before her disappearance. What does it say that he is his mother's son and cannot successfully follow in her footsteps? Failure is not an option. It can't be.
Sleeping. Dreams. Nightmares. For a while now, Eve has been plagued with horrific nightmares whenever he goes to sleep. He now has to take a specially prepared tonic to keep the nightmares at bay. But what if the tonic suddenly stops working? What if he can't make anymore? The idea of a night without his tonic is worse than death itself.
Eve doesn't know the fate of his mother, and sometimes, he fears the worst. However, he does have hope that she is still alive and will do whatever it takes to find her or at least learn the truth about her disappearance. It's better to know she is dead than to not know at all.
"I am not a fragile flower, because...I understand that this world is cruel..." —Eve
GOALS
As a Fated Warrior, his primary goal right now is to help his comrades defeat The Maestro. Though he is not the strongest fighter, his unique capabilities will aid in their endeavors to bring peace back to the realm.
Of course, and secretly, of more importance, though it is selfish, he wants to find his mother or learn about what fate befell her. He also wants to recover the memory of what his mother looks like.
"I will never forget you, Mother." —Eve
SECRETS
He is the son of a very evil man who used his psychic power to hurt others. Eve doesn't want people to know this, of course, because people might think of him poorly. He is nothing like his father, but if people found out, all they will see is the son of a demon personified. So he just tells people his father died before he was born. His father is famously evil.
"I think I've met you in one of my dreams." —Eve
FLAW
Due to the nature of his upbringing, Eve is an incredibly empathetic individual, sometimes to a fault. His natural sensitivity to others makes him susceptible to the whims of those around him, and he has to always control his emotions and not let the feelings of others influence his own. He was also trained to control his own emotions to avoid intense anger, as intense anger leads to Blood Red Eyes, and that leads to the worst version of himself.
Due to his seemingly delicate appearance and disposition, people often underestimate his capabilities, though this could be interpreted as a perk. Nonetheless, sometimes he feels he has to prove himself and may overcompensate by putting himself in harm's way or acting carelessly.
"My time in academia is not final. I still have more learning to do." —Eve
Skills
Eve is incredibly booksmart, well-read, educated, and articulate, so he is able to use his charming looks and smooth words in order to placate or persuade others. He's an academic at heart and is knowledgeable about many things that may come in handy along his journey. He knows several languages and is quite intelligent. All the things he learned from reading books.
Perhaps he was born with such a trait, or maybe it simply developed as he grew older, but Eve has an immaculate, photogenic memory. He can recall experiences far back into the past as if they just happened yesterday. He can describe them down to every vivid detail. His memory is so advanced that he can remember the sensations he felt at the time, physical, emotional, or otherwise. He remembers faces like photos in a picture book. He never forgets a face once he sees it in person.
Eve is a skilled artist and painter, though he reserves his talent primarily for sketching faces that he finds memorable or interesting, even if the face he draws belongs to someone he only met in their dreamworld.
"Did you know, dreams reveal mysteries and secrets about the waking world. I read that in a book once." —Eve
ABILITIES
Fluttering Nightmares As a Mesarthim, his jewel grants him a psychic ability. However, Eve's is quite rare, and the only other people who possessed this psychic power were his mother and maternal grandfather. Eve's psychic powers allows him to manifest fairy-shaped sprites that emanate from his mesarthim jewel. He can control these sprites and see through their eyes, making him especially adept at surveillance since he can use them to watch over many different areas at once. It's like he has split his consciousness into little smithereens and scattered them out into the world. When enough of his sprites work together, they can move objects.
Finally, when one of Eve's sprites lands on someone who is sleeping, he can enter their dreams. While in their dreams, he can simply visit and witness what the person is dreaming, or he can take control of their dreams and make them have beautiful dreams or horrific nightmares. While in someone's dreams, Eve can conceal his presence. The dreamer cannot see or communicate with him unless he allows them to.
Summoning As a Summoner, Eve can summon a variety of creatures and beings, called Mystic Spirits, to do his bidding and aid him in his journey. Some spirits are for combat, while others provide utility and support benefits. Some spirits just exist for the sake of companionship or conversation. He has several spirits at the moment, but not too many, as mystic spirits have to be courted before they agree to do your bidding, and courting some spirits is more challenging than others. Each spirit has its own personality and disposition.
To call upon a spirit, Eve uses a special Mesarthim Summoner's Quill. When the tip of his quill begins to glow, Eve draws the spirits' glyph in the air and calls out its name, summoning the spirit from the spirit realm. He can have several lower-level spirits out at the same time, but can only have one (or two at most) really powerful spirits out at a time.
In extreme cases, a spirit can summon itself to help Eve in dire situations, but only for brief moments before they are sent back to the spirit realm.
Crateris: Crateris is a spirit that appears as a floating sentient teacup on a saucer. It has a face with full, red lips, thin eyebrows, and gilded accents that emulate curly golden hair. Crateris is a great conversationalist but can be a little too chatty. It can refill itself up with any kind of drink that the Summoner desires.
Norma: Norma is a spirit that appears as a young woman wearing a dress and a hat. Norma creates doors on solid surfaces, allowing people to walk through the door on one side of a structure and walk through another door to come out on the opposite side of that structure.
Yahoel: Yahoel is an angelic winged spirit that can create a blinding and destructive flash of light, or, when washing the light over allies, it cures them of sadness and pain, though the effect is only temporary. This summon can also shoot its feathers as projectiles.
Kalaziel: Kalaziel is another angelic winged spirit with a translucent body and a visible beating heart. It can harden its skin to become more durable and use it's hardened wings as sharp weapons for melee attacks or blocking attacks.
Cetu: Cetu is a stumpy humanoid cat-like spirit, with glasses, robes, and a staff. Cetu can use its staff to shoot magical energy or as a blunt weapon. Like a cat, this spirit is really nimble and agile, and can use the magic of its staff to divine for lost objects and ordinate it's location to find its way and where it needs to go, like a compass.
Namino: Namino is a child-like spirit, fully clothed and floating about leisurely. While it has no combat capabilities, it very shy around strangers. It also has an angelic singing voice, often likes to help with chores, and can float through walls like a ghost. If you treat this spirit well, every once in a while, it may reward you with a small gift, like a coin or a tasty treat (nothing major though).
Bébé: Bébé is a small bear-like spirit with fur, patches of stone skin, and dandelions growing out its head. Bébé hates being in the spirit realm, so Eve usually just holds and carries him around while on his travels. When Bébé feels he or Eve is being threatened, he can rapidly grow into a ferocious, full-grown bear completely covered in a stone exoskeleton, vastly increasing his durability and strength. After combat, he reverts back to his original, cute form. Bébé's dandelions act as antennas, and help him to better smell scents carried on the wind.
"This magic was a gift from my mother. I cannot throw it away." —Eve
FATED WEAPON
Eve's fated weapon was but a mere family heirloom before the Fates embued it with power. It's an ornate cloth the size of a medium-sized, square Persian rug and made of the finest fabric. The cloth has intricate designs, with three tassels on each corner and a golden ball on the last. After the heirloom was passed down to him, the Fates embued it with power.
Simply called Love's Heirloom (having been passed down from the person he loved the most), Eve can magically summon the cloth and make it disappear when not in use. Upon activation, the ball of the cloth emanates a soft mint-colored glow and the entire cloth becomes fortified and durable while retaining its flexibility. He can control the cloth telekinetically, sitting on it to fly like riding a magic carpet, or he can control it and use it as a barrier against oncoming attacks. The cloth can also stretch and grow longer, which he can then control to wrap around foes to subdue them. However, his Fated Weapon is mostly a defensive gift.
"I am a summoner of The Mesarthim Citadel. My education will prove that I am not to be underestimated." —Eve
He speaks with a British-sounding accent.
His hobbies include reading books, drinking tea, collecting curios, painting/drawing, and cleaning.
Eve never knew his father, until recently. Before Eve's birth, his father had succumbed to his blood-red eyes and was banished from the mesarthim palace for terrible acts. He is believed to be a powerful and dangerous man, with an equally dangerous psychic ability. Eve has not met his father in person, but knows who he is and has visited him in his dreams many times, though of course, Eve's father doesn't know that. Eve isn't sure if his father even knows he has a son.
His title, "The Citadel's First Love," is a title given to the current summoner of the Mesarthim Citadel, as they are often adored and beloved by everyone, almost at a cult-like level. When Eve became the new Summoner of the Mesarthim Citadel, the title passed down to him.
Madamoiselle Vanille
23 - Female - She/Her - The Beguiling One
RACE
Mesarthim
CLASS
Sand Mage; Carrying around an ornate urn, Vanille can use her specialized magic to manipulate the sand in her urn to attack her foes, defend her companions, or disrupt her enemies. She cannot simply create sand out of nothing, only manipulate it. After a battle concludes, she draws what sand she can back into her urn. Otherwise, she makes sure to refill her urn on her travels. She often keeps several small vials of sand on her person as a last resort.
Appearance
Vanille is a young woman of a petite stature. Standing a few inches under Eve, she covers most of her body in baggy, flowy garments, with a veiled headpiece. Like all Mesarthim, her gown is mostly white, with some gilded accents and opulent accessories. Her hair is curly and lays just nearly to her bosom. She can usually be seen carrying around a small orante urn full of sand, which she uses for her primary form of magic.
HISTORY
Vanille is a Mesarthim noblewoman of a large family that had a great deal of influence over the politics and economic progress of the Mesarthim Citadel. She was a bright child, intelligent beyond her years, albeit, coming off as a bit rude, curt, and condescending. Nonetheless, she showed great loyalty to her family and those close to her, known for being the best person in her family at keeping secrets. It was this level-headed but stern and focused nature that was the reason why she was chosen to act as Eve's Guardian, a role given to select individuals to protect a Summoner on their journey.
Because of this, Vanille and Eve grew up together and developed a close older-sister/younger-brother bond. At some point during her life, she experienced a very traumatic experience, which hardened her heart, turning her into something of an ice-princess, cold to strangers, but warm and considerate to those she deems worthy of her loyalty. Vanille believes she can see the purity of a heart, and is very blunt about most things. She claims that most hearts are tainted with darkness, which is why she always addresses newcomers with an air of caution.
Skills
As a Mesarthim, Vanille naturally possesses a psychic ability thanks to the mesarthim jewel embedded in her forehead. In her case, Vanille has a psychic power called Beguiling Love. By making eye contact with someone, Vanille can make that person fall in love with her for roughly 10 minutes or so. During that period, the beguiled person will follow all of her commands, but with each minute, her influence over the person slowly diminishes. By the last minute, a person may be nearly out of her spell, so Vanille must act quickly to get someone to do what she wants before the effect wears off. She also cannot use her psychic power on the same person back-to-back.
Highly intelligent and perceptive, Vanille has a knack for deducing a situation and reading people based on their body language and tone. She can react quickly and has a talent for devising strategies on the fly. She trained and learned with Eve, so she knows about many of the things he does, if not more. And aside from her versatile sand magic, Vanille has a knack for cooking and keeping a poker face under the most dire circumstances. She is the queen of keeping secrets.
Sir. Baelfeur Goldheart
30 - Male - He/Him - The Golden Sentinel
RACE
Human
CLASS
Great Swordsman/Fighter; Baelfeur is a self-taught fighter, and thanks to his enchanted armor and close-quarter combat capabilities, he can equally tank damage and dish it out to his foes. Though his weapon of choice is a greatsword, he is a capable fighter who uses a mishmash of techniques.
Appearance
When Baelfeur walks into a room, he easily draws the attention of others. He's a tall, muscular man, standing at least 6'3". His heavy golden armor glistens and when it hits the sun just right, creates a blinding flash of light. Though his armor hides most of his flesh, one can see three deep scars on his face, two on left cheek and one on his right. His almond-shaped hazel eyes are deep and contrast against his brown skin. He carries his greatsword on his back.
HISTORY
Baelfeur grew up under less-than-ideal circumstances somewhere near the Obsidian Bastion. His village was always being raided by bandits, thieves, and vagabonds. They pillaged any community they could take advantage of. As Baelfeur got older and grew sick of this life, he learned how to fight by carefully analyzing the intruders that came to pillage his village. Eventually, he would self-learn an amalgamation of unpolished, but effective fighting styles.
In the thick of knight, he'd dismantle and burn down these bandit encampments, one at a time, all on his own. This was how he eventually acquired his signature golden armor and greatsword. Loot the looters, all in the name of justice. But he was only one person. He couldn't stop them all. It wasn't a realistic endeavor. By a stroke of luck, Eve, viewing through the eyes of his psychic fairy sprites, would stumble upon Baelfeur sleeping in a tree. Curious by the man and his gleaming golden armor, Eve slipped into the man's dreams and saw the nightmares of his village being pillaged and ravaged over and over and over again. Horrified, Eve spoke to the man in his dreams, telling him about a magical artifact he'd read about in a book.
Eve told Baelfeur how, if he could find this ancient artifact, he could use it to protect his small village so they'd never have to worry about being pillaged again. Though it took several months, Balfeur would eventually find this artifact and, with Eve's guidance in his dreams, would erect it in the center of the village, shielding his village so bandits could never find it again. With his village no longer in harm's way, Baelfeur would leave his homeland and take up the mantle as Eve' second Guardian. In Baelfeur eyes, he and his village owe Eve their lives. Acting as his guardian, to protect him, is the best way he knows how to pay him back.
Skills
Though he wears heavy-looking armor and a greatsword, Baelfeur is an agile warrior who understands a mish-mash of fighting styles he can utilize depending on the situation. Even if he doesn't have his sword, he is far from defenseless Though he possesses no magic of his own, his golden armor is enchanted, giving him a certain degree of fortified durability and resistance to assault. He is less likely to be knocked down or pushed back, making him somewhat of an unstoppable force once he's in the action.
Having grown up under pretty terrible circumstances, he is street-smart and knows a variety of useful skills, such as pickpocketing and picking locked doors. He's a quick study when it comes to anything physical. He can climb a tree just as well as any tree-dwelling animal and has great balance. He's kind of got a habit of sleeping in trees, a preference he developed as he found it more peaceful, while simultaneously allowing him to react to bandits and vagabonds sooner. He was the sentinel of his village. And now he acts as the sentinel for Eve.

I come back to this again and again, the BLEAK series (specifically the first one) really spoke to me emotionally.
I can't place exactly what it was, the story was easy to follow, some of the ideas were thought provoking and the RP was generally enjoyable (and the rpers).
I can't believe it's been 5 years, I reflected on my time in Guild and realized I trolled alot in some of the RPs I was in but BLEAK and some others on my 🐐 wall I took quite seriously.
I don't think anything could replace this RP, or emulate it but it made me a better roleplayer and I rarely see a roleplay up to this standard anymore.
Rest easy lil BLEAK.
I feel the exact same way. The atmosphere of Bleak has resonated with me more than any other RP. This RP is my blueprint. <3 I love you BLEAK family.
As most of you know, I took a promotion over a month ago and since then, my activity has declined to basically a halt. I'm essentially at an impasse, as I will no longer have the time to manage and actively participate in the RP due to this new RL responsibility, and that's not accounting for the freelance obligations I've already had prior to this new change.
And with Miranda being gone as well, it's just not feasible for me to keep up with such a large RP actively, though I can still be around to answer questions, give my 2 cents, communicate, etc.
With all that said, my inability to actively take part in the story doesn't mean it needs to end. This has been a wonderfully committed and talented group of writers who I believe can keep it going and infuse a new flavor and vision into the RP.
I want to put out feelers to see if there are any individuals who are interested, active, and committed to taking over as GM and Co-GMs. Perhaps everyone can decide democratically who they feel would be a good fit for these roles, if you guys want to continue the RP, that is.
okay, so Myrion just used his Gift on Fasha @jasbraq and maybe on Lohren @Silver Carrot, but what does that mean? well:
Fasha learned 'Ensnaring Fragrance'!: I went with the idea that was discussed on Discord, that's to say that her pheromones now can, at her command, block external stimulus from affecting those under her control, essentially preventing people from feeling things she doesn't want them to feel.
Lhoren (If she accepts) learned 'Siren's Echo'!: Again I went with the Discord conversation, this ability lets Lorhen implant thoughts in the heads of others but makes them mistake those thoughts as their own, complete commands or appealing suggestions are up to the player.
How your character reacts to the evolution (automatically know, have to discover it, feels the change, etc.) I am leaving for the players too.
Finally, @Aeolian or @Mirandae, are these evolutions okay? I went with them because they are things that the characters should be able to do similar things (but not quite the same) if they were trained to do them specifically
I can always edit if someone disagrees with something.
