In Depth Appearance |
As a nagin, legends state that the snake-woman is always a captivating beauty: stealing the attention of many and never letting it go from her grasp. She is said to be alluring, seductive and a little
too perfect. Ananya Sharma, while a nagin, meets only
some of the criteria.
Instead of alluring, she's clumsy. Instead of seductive, she's oblivious. And instead of perfect? Well, she's just that: imperfect. It's safe to say that Ananya has taken more to her human father than her
perfect nagin mother: both in looks and personality. She's taken the same chocolate brown shade of hair, as well as the delicate curls that frame her face and fall down her back. She even has his brown eyes, the same, soft hue that gives the illusion of naivety or innocence. Her smile, wide and full of happiness, always threatens to split her face into two and even wider eyes that twinkle with mischief and humour.
Ananya is a petite woman, barely crossing the 5'3" mark with slim build. There is little to her body except wide hips and a barely-there chest. Despite how similar Ananya is to her father, Anya
has taken certain features from her mother such as the shape of her face and eyes, along with the build of her body (except Anya is shorter and less curvaceous). One other thing she likely takes from her father is her fair skin. Instead of the darker skin that South Indians tend to have, Ananya has taken to her European father in that aspect. It's generally unblemished and unmarred except for a single scar that runs along her side, usually hidden beneath the clothes she favours to wear.
Speaking of clothing, Ananya typically wears a mixture of desi and western clothing. She has no preference to a single type: usually meshing the two styles together (with a
kurti top and fitted skinny jeans, or a
tank with a long skirt). That doesn't mean she doesn't wear only western or desi: if it's a special occasion, Ananya can be seen sporting a short
dress or
shorts, or a
lengha set if needed. Ananya's make up is simple, and fairly common for an Indian woman: she lines her eyes with black eye liner and fills in her thick eyebrows, with either a nude or light pink lipstick depending on her mood. It's just enough to cover any potential blemishes, as well as to make herself look a little more appealing to the eye. Ananya's staple piece is large earings: whether hooped or long, as long as you can see them from a mile off it's what she'll wear.

|
Personality |
If life has taught anything to Ananya, it is to never give up. Ananya is headstrong and highly determined to master her abilities as a snake shifter to protect her family. This goal to protect her family can make her blind to anything else, making her as stubborn as a bull stuck in a hole. To Ananya, if there is anything that she can do that can help her be better at being a Nag, you can be sure as hell that Ananya will do it.
To others, Ananya is loud and friendly. She's often one of the first to extend a hand in friendship to potential allies. She's all smiles and charm, doing as much as she can to be a support system to friends and those she deeply cares for, to the point of being overbearing. She can come off as a bit pushy, striving for people's safety first before anything else. This trait can be annoying to some - especially those that are reckless with their behaviour, but Ananya only wants the best for her friends and family. With Ananya, it looks like there's no way to pierce through her eternal happiness, except there is.
Beneath her happiness lies a deeply hidden streak of hurt and sadness. It's not something many people know about, but Ananya is highly sensitive when people criticise her. She over-thinks everything people say till it becomes a mess in her mind, and any negative criticism can lead to Ananya over-worrying and even bouts of panic. Ananya hides the grief underneath her smiles, her belief that the slightest show of weakness could cause pain to her family being the reason she's stubborn and keeps all her emotions hidden in a bottle.
However, Ananya is still a young girl. Just like her mother, she does like her fair share of adventure and fun as long as it's safe. While she's scared of losing those she deeply cares for, she also fears pushing them away with her fearful and nervous nature. This need to fit in can sometimes lead her to take impulsive decisions where she thinks that could make her 'fit in' with the crowd.
Despite this, she doesn't care much for drama as long as it doesn't involves her. While Ananya does love having friends and caring for them, her priority is still to learn about her nature as a Nag and to master her abilities enough to provide safety for her younger brother so he doesn't have to live his life in fear like Ananya.

Abilities |
According to Indian legends and mythos, the stories of snake-people, or Nagas, is an ancient tale used to frighten children and wandering lonesome travellers from harassing the snakes that dwell in the dangerous forests in India. While the legends is just that, legends, it doesn't mean that a
form of this legend doesn't exist. They prefer to go by the same names: Nags and nagins - the children of snakes that live up to two to five centuries if left to their own devices.
Snake Physiology
Ananya, when in her snake form, takes on the appearance and abilities of a King Cobra snake. As a human, Ananya has the ability to produce venom that can paralyse an adult human for up to four hours, causing pain and even hallucinations in certain individuals during that time period. Just like the snake she takes the form of, Anya is agile and quick which aids her in escaping rather than fighting her battles head on. She also has enhanced flexibility and smell as a human.
Camouflage
A little strange ability of Ananya's, but she can temporarily
shed her skin to take on the appearance of someone else. This doesn't mean she can completely mimic them, as the person she's taken the appearance of and the people closest to them will be able to tell she's an impostor. She can't mimic voices nor mannerisms either, unless she really tries (and even then, it's just her
acting to be someone else and hoping for the best people will fall for it).
The Hybrid-State
The Hybrid-State involves Ananya being part human-part snake. In this form, she's much larger than her normal snake form, reaching the height of seven feet easily. Her skin becomes scaly and harder than a normal snake's, though Ananya has not used this state long enough to test the resistance to anything quite yet. Here, she reaches her
optimum performance - quick, and agile where her venom is a lot more fatal. In the hybrid state, Anya loses all her 'human' thoughts and morals, leaving her as a full-blown snake with only one priority: to survive. This state is triggered through emotional distress and is something Ananya has only reached once - and hopes to never go through again.

Limitations |
The Mani
The Mani is a gem that every Naga is born with. Originally fused into their skin, as the child grows older, the gem protrudes from the skin more until one day it finally falls out. This gem is considered more valuable than a common diamond, it's rare to see one in person if you're a simple human. Ananya's gem is easily comparable to a triplite in colour, the tear-drop shaped gem is said to hold the Naga's soul.
The Naga's first instinct is to protect themselves and their Mani. It doesn't matter who from, even if the Naga has to protect their gem from their own family member they will without hesitation. Without their Mani, it's been well-documented that the Naga will go on the offensive and attack till their gem has been returned to them in a safe condition. If without their Mani for a long period of time, the Naga's ability will be significantly weakened, and if not returned, the Naga will die.
Snake Charmers/Pungi
What was once thought as a scam or a myth, actually works against the Naga if handled correctly. The Pungi, or Been, is a wind instrument that is commonly used by Snake Charmers in India and other Asian countries as a way to handle unwanted snake problems. While the instrument itself doesn't cause much issues to the Naga, but if the Snake Charmer is particularly versed in mantras and trained properly, the Been can be a powerful tool against the Naga.
If used incorrectly, the most the Been can do is cause a headache in Ananya, whether as a snake or human, the girl's first instinct will be to escape the vicinity. However, if trained properly and the mantra is used against Ananya, it can cause immense pain and nausea, even if she leaves the area. The effects can last anywhere between hours and days, it just depends on the strength of the mantra used against Ananya.
Inexperience
Ananya is still a child, despite her age. Without her mother to teach her the ways of the Naga, Ananya has had to learn the basics of her abilities on her own. She doesn't know the extent of her power - or, she doesn't want to. The Hybrid state is considered the
perfect state for a Naga if in danger, but can prove to be more harmful than good. Ananya has not had a chance to fully develop her powers compared to the Nagas her age.

Family |
Father -
Elliot Jackson [46] (FC: Ben Barnes)
A simple human, Elliot tries to support his family by owning a new, semi-successful restaurant in the city. Elliot and Ananya are closer than one might think. Maybe a little strained due to Ananya's nagin abilities, but without the help of Sunaina, Elliot thought that Mayweather could help Ananya figure out her abilities.
Mother -
Sunaina Sharma [Appeared to be 41] (FC: Sameera Reddy)
Sunaina was a simple woman. Despite being a nagin, she was filled with curiosity about the human life - what it was like to be normal. And what better way to find out than by taking up a job as a bartender in an upcoming club in a popular tourist destination? After meeting Elliot, she fell in love and was ecstatic when they married and settled down like normal people. However, she was killed by a snake-charmer for being a Nag before she could teach much of her abilities to her two Nag children with Elliot.
Brother -
Adarsh Sharma [15] (FC: Darsheel Safary)
Adarsh is Ananya's younger brother, and another Nag like Ananya. Their relationship is filled with banter and love, and Ananya is highly overprotective of him. He's her motivation for mastering her abilities as a nagin and the reason she's in Mayweather.

History |
It all started in Goa, the nation's coastal get-away for rowdy college teens and new tourists. It was there where Elliot Jackson and Sunaina Sharma met, on a cool breezy night at a thriving nightclub filled with said rowdy teens and adults looking for a good time. Sunaina, then masquerading as a young 20-something year old met Elliot when she accidentally dropped a cocktail on his shirt. It was certainly one way to break the ice with Elliot, who simply laughed it off and hung around the bar to have a chat till Sunaina's shift was over. From then, it was history.
Elliot had arrived to India for a trip with his friends, a way to celebrate graduating university by getting drunk all over the world. Sunaina only wanted a good time, and thus it was only natural that the two flocked together like they did. They spent the week together, talking and enjoying their time on the beach resort and when time was up and it was Elliot's time to go back home? They wrote to each other and talked over the phone - distance didn't matter between their budding friendship-come romance. For two years they kept in touch, their companionship turning into friendship until it turned to love. Elliot returned for Sunaina that year, surprising the bartender by going down on one knee with a haribo ring and a bigger smile. They were married that following month.
Despite their romance, they suffered through many hardships. Sunaina couldn't return back to America with Elliot due to visa and passport issues and the couple couldn't bare to live without eah other longer than a day after two years of distance between them.
Soon Elliot decided to settle with his wife in India, in her hometown - Chennai. Their relationship was scrutinised by society and by her family, but the couple brushed it off and eventually settled in the outskirts of the city. In that same month, Sunaina revealed the truth behind her weird and outlandish ways - the truth that she was a nagin. At first, Elliot brushed it off as a joke and tried continuing with their lives, but soon things began making sense.
With the birth of their first child, Ananya, came even more surprise and the final proof that he was indeed married to a snake-woman. The stunned man didn't know how to react. On one hand he was willing to leave the lying woman, but his love for her made it difficult - especially right after the birth of his daughter. Elliot tried understanding Sunaina's condition, learning how it was as a Nag and slowly grew to fall for the supernatural woman all over again. And five years after the birth of Ananya came her little brother, Adarsh.
Both children grew up knowing of their mother's heritage, Ananya especially being taught as much as possible for her young age about the charms and dangers of being a snake-woman. Sunaina was peaceful, and she wanted to raise her children with the same morals and ideals as her. Both children grew up knowing of their mother's heritage, both especially being taught as much as possible for their young ages about the charms and dangers of being a snake-woman. Sunaina was peaceful, and she wanted to raise her children with the same morals and ideals as her. The quaint life lasted for fifteen years, the children growing up happy until one day ruined it all.
The blood of a Nag is rumoured to have medicinal properties, the Mani said to be more valuble than the largest diamond itself. Capturing the "mythological creature" became a game, for fame and for the additional benefits. And it was the reason that Sunaina was killed. Chennai was home to one relatively known tantric, a snake-charmer going by the name of Raju. It was him who'd hunted down the nagin and slaughtered her - draining her of her blood and her Mani stolen to be worn as a necklace to prove his accomplishment. And it was him that triggered Ananya's first hybrid changing.
Seeing her mother lying dead, as if she were nothing but a game to him, caused the young teen to feel the pain her mother suffered through, the anguish building up till it all went blank. Ananya woke three hours later, her jaw throbbing and the snake-charmer's body lying stiff on the ground with punctures all over his skin. Ananya was later told that she'd bitten the man multiple times, the venom spreading through his body and paralysing him till all he could do was lay in her mercy. Fearing that Ananya would be hunted down the same way his wife was, Elliot sold the small house he and Sunaina raised his children in and fled to America, or more specifically: Phoenix, Arizona.
Elliot transferred Ananya and Adarsh into their new school, Ananya in high school while Adarsh joined the fourth grade. She struggled to deal with the sudden culture shock along with the loss of her mother, her grades dropping as a result. She barely focused on her education when all she wanted to do was to learn the true extent of her abilities. She didn't know how to protect her mother when the charmer hunted her down - Ananya was determined to protect her family as well as herself. So when she heard about a certain hero university for superpowered teens and adults, Ananya tried her very best to fix up her grades and graduate high school with good enough grades to apply and when Ananya got in she kept her head down and used her time to train herself to be stronger, to be better for her remaining family.
