The Road to Sagehood: A Naruto AU

Contrary to what I said in the interest check, I do actually have some kind of rough idea at the moment. Wasn't there some kind of discord for the RP?

Mostly a balance thing. I knew I didn't want the massacre to happen in this universe, but just in case the group was kind of big for this I didn't want to make it a Uchiha show. I did think of making one of this version's Hokage a Uchiha but I would've placed him as the Third since I was planning to remove Hiruzen.

So let's say a big shift change is that when Tobirama is a squad's sensei he gets a member of the Uchiha on his team. At the time he still hates them having a very hard time letting go of the past, but with his student he starts seeing a different side to the clan and realizes his brother may not have been wrong after all. So after a rough start he shapes the young Uchiha into a worthwhile and respected shinobi. He then goes on to become the Third Hokage and during his reign the Third Shinobi War happens. Him being Hokage gave the clan a boost in morale so they ended up training harder than normal and more and more wanted to prove just what they could do for their village so against his better judgment a lot of his clan had fought on the front lines and although they were skilled shinobi war is war so lives were claimed.

So at the moment they're not as big a clan as they once were but they are currently still repopulating their ranks and have even taken to marrying outside the clan.

Yeah nah, that makes sense for how the Uchiha would still stick around and be a pretty decent shift in the Hokages and such, though I think really I just feel like it's an Uchiha Massacre of another kind in a way if you know what I mean. Not that I have a shinobi in the race to begin with, considering my two Naruto characters are a Hyuga and a Senju, that and my backlog is rather intimidating at the moment lmao. That said, the setting has always been of interest, so you know. By all means though, don't take what I say too seriously, just a fan of the series offering some thoughts.

There will be no Uchiha massacre, but they will have dwindled in number after many of them were sent to the front lines during the Third Shinobi War.

I've personally had an idea floating around for a while now on an AU of the nardo setting, though with some more subtle differences in mind. Any particular reason the Uchiha get wiped out beyond balancing? An idea could be that without Madara the more moderate elements take power within the clan and perhaps even an Uchiha from the era becomes the Second Hokage, thus breaking the idea of lineages at least in Konoha. This could lead them to maintain a large presence as well within the leaf, and a long-standing rivalry with the other founding clans, particularly the Hyuga.

WH40K: Rogue Trader

I'm pretty flexible on that. On most things really.

I like the idea of him as sort of running with the same group for awhile, but if it fits your concept better I'd be fine with him sort of jumping from crew to crew pretty regularly too.

If he's been around for awhile I could have fun with him being sort of a grump, grumbling about how things were better under the previous Rogue Trader if you want to do a bit about Valeria establishing herself, but I could also have fun with him sort of taking the opposite tact. Maybe he didn't like the previous guy because he placed more constraints on Roald.

Or if he's new maybe he's kind of a dick, doubting Valeria's ability due to her youth, or her sex, or just because he hasn't seen her take charge yet. Could have fun with him talking out his ass and getting cracked down on for it.

Either way works, Giovanni was her father so there's a bit of inheriting crew in addition to the ship, the house and a gaggle of Sororitas who have a keen interest in keeping things as they are.

Roald Cliffbloom

Personality:
With his fellow Rogue Traders, whether alone with them or peacefully exploring a town with them, he is loud, crude, coarse, obnoxious, drunken, lecherous, gluttonous, and yet somehow still charming. He takes full advantage of his small nonthreatening stature and large eyes so that even when he presses things too far and gets a well deserved slap or shove the conversations generally keep on. He is easy to talk to, easy not to take seriously, and somehow despite how offensive he can be he rarely actually offends. He wants the things everyone wants, he's just more open about wanting them and generally wants more of them.

One of his goals is to become influential/powerful/wealthy enough to improve his peoples standing in the Empire. After the many slaughters and near genocide at Ornsworld he wants to secure a future for his people and be remembered for doing so. His secondary goal is to get laid, get paid, and repeat that cycle over and over as much as possible until he drops dead. It is often not at all clear which is the priority for Roald.

Physical Description:
Roald is small in stature, not surprising for a Ratling, and hairy, also not surprising. He's tan and oddly fit for a race commonly known for their pot bellies. He has wild overgrown eyebrows and an up turned nose scrunched up with a large forehead. He has thick messy dark brown hair which is gradually going gray and sideburns as well as a neigh permanent five o' clock shadow. His default facial expression is a frown, though it quickly turns transforms into a wry smart ass grin at the slightest hint of double entendre.

Assignment Rating: Omicron
Manifests as nothing more than him being often perceived as a lucky little git. As a Trailblazer he was often out on his own in places where if spotted he would likely quickly become a greasy hairy stain against a wall. Through whatever miracle he often seems to have inexplicable luck and occasionally a sixth sense about exactly when is a good idea to ditch a trail or hide in a crag.

Skills:
Roald is the consummate Trailblazer, having found a role that fits his natural abilities and inclinations rather well.

In town or, during his Auxilia days, around camp he is quite proficient at procuring near anything he or his unit need or want. When he chooses to he can be very outgoing and friendly, while he is almost always obnoxious and coarse. He is fairly good at disarming hostile but not yet violent strangers due to his diminutive size in the hope to gain useful information about nearby likely hostile areas or the location of fun shooty and/or explodey toys to play with.

Aboard the ship he serves as a mechanic. His small size allows him to get around the moving parts more easily and to attend to them from angles that many wouldn't be able to. His curiosity, persistence, and ample application of grease, oil, lubricant, or whatever other fluid he thinks likely to help him solve a problem have served the ship well in keeping things moving. Often times the smell of oil and muffled sound of incoherent swearing echo from the oddest sections of the ship.

Despite his often loud and obnoxious nature among his crewmates when he is on the job he is eerily capable of evading detection and remaining undetected while moving through hostile areas at a relatively high rate of speed. He can swiftly move up the sheerest cliffs and wiggle through the smallest of openings due to his small stature and considerable proportionate strength. Having moved unseen through these areas he is then able to help others navigate their dangers with minimal risk utilizing freshly made trails or old trails freshly uncovered.

When things inevitably wind their way toward some folks he is fond of shooting a lot of folks he doesn't particularly care for he utilizes some of the tech has has managed to "acquire" over the years to harass, distract, and slow down the enemy. Stealth cloaks, combat webbing, ropes, hooks, all manner of traps, and his small size and fondness for finding crevices to stick himself into (hee hee) allow him to create opportunities for himself to engage the enemy when they are at their weakest.

When it comes down to the actual shooting he uses those traps, his small size, his speed, and his accuracy with his Long-Las to confound the enemy and attempt to set them up to be ambushed by his fellow Traders or caught in their own crossfire. He has the uncanny and sometimes downright unsettling ability to set traps up in the most devious of places to inflict grievous wounds and sew discord.

History:
Roald's professional life began in the Militarum Auxilia. With his fellow Abhumans he served in this specialist division of the Astra Militarum as a member of a crew of Ratlings. He didn't manage to fit in quite as well as he had hoped. While his combat capabilities were exemplary his personality didn't do him many favors. Certain things are expected among a company of Ratlings but even then there are limits. Roald's inability to exist within these bounds led to his exile from the Militarum Auxilia.

He had served well as a Trailblazer. His confidence, restlessness and some tendencies toward solitude made him a perfect fit for the primary responsibilities of the role, and his penchant for explosions and sometimes rather disturbing exuberance when sending rounds into the general cranial vicinity of unsuspecting enemy troops served him well. He'd joined them in enough campaigns and saw them through enough tight spots that when his general debauchery and penchant for "borrowing" stuff from adjacent units and the populace in general got him in trouble he was assigned to stay on Bakka, participating in repairs and maintenance of the Imperial battlefleets docked there.

He figured out fairly quickly that the whole damn place was hot and smokey, the company wasn't much to look at, and there was no one and nothing fun to shoot. Though he enjoyed the work at first the sedate life of a full time mechanic would never fit him and so he sought to join on with the first Rogue Trader to make a stop on Bakka and begin his new life. From his first day in a crew he has rarely wanted for work.

Roald is pretty neat, and don't really see enough Ratling characters in my mind. He would probably most likely be seconded to one of the house guard sections on the ship or one of the more free-form combat details. My one question would be how long he's been around on the ship? We're most likely going to be 020.M42, with the last six years or so being under the daughter of the prior Rogue Trader who was a bit of a force of personality all things considered.

But on that note, I am pressing on with at the very least working some details out on the ship, on House Amantea and the Rogue Traders Giovanni Amantea and Valeria Amantea, as well as some things on Valeria's current retinue. I can also provide some links to the discord we are using for planning and talking things out for any interested.

Hey, as long as there's no chaos fuckery I think it will probably be good. Might clash with the resident gremlin magos, but probably fine lol. Though suppose that depends entirely on how long your character would have been on the ship, and who he came onto the ship under. I'll provide more details after I work some more on a loose ooc tonight, but the current Rogue Trader somewhat recently inherited the ship and house.

Typically as far as I'm aware they would go back into the gen-pop of the Inquisition as I'm fairly certain they keep a lot of staff on hand for the orders militant. Though it would most likely be on the retinue members as individuals as to whether they would continue to serve the orders or to go out into the greater galaxy. So entirely likely they could be picked up by an enterprising Rogue Trader.

Always down for 40k, I know a lot of the ones I've been in end prematurely, so I'm always down for another shot.

Would very likely depend upon the scale of the tech heresy and just what kind, but considering Rogue Traders often have as much authority as Inquisitors there wouldn't be much issue... Unless we go to a Forge World, and then it's just keep your mechadendrites to yourself lol.

Kinda interested, would probably play a former guardsmen. Though I have a idea, of one guardmen who might had been formerly apart of a Inquisitor's team.

Every Rogue Trader needs to have proper combat teams just in case, I don't see any reason why a guardsman would be an issue unless of course their former employer is a little salty.

As long as they don't go pulling panels or taking things apart, our Rogue Trader has a fairly ancient vessel that's been in the family for a while and the family would be fairly upset if something broke lol.

I like it. There are a decent number of 40k/WHFB nerds here who would likely be down. I know JB hosts a lot, as do Selune and BCTheEntity.

I'd be down so long as you don't mind a Ratling. Sneaky little dude, Long Las and traps/sabotaging stuff. I forget his name but I'm sure I've got the CS somewhere.

I've always liked the lesser powered groups of 40K and Rogue Trader in particular as they strike me as slightly more Indiana Jones-y. Orcs are probably my favorite potential enemy, but tyranids or some like Chaos maddened humans are fun. Anything really.

On the point of a Ratling, really don't mind at all. Kind of had a bingo card for what we were expecting first and that's a pleasant surprise not going to lie lol. Though I suppose we'll have to wait and see what regiment he's from. Otherwwise we welcome our grim dark Bilbo Baggins.

As for the rest of the post, yeah I know there's a fair few out there who also rather enjoy a good jaunt into the 41st/42nd millenium, and while I do appreciate any love for the setting, a lot of the typical fare has left me a little jaded. Grim Dark can be fun, and it can certainly be a very interesting setting to explore, but not when there's very little else to go on. Most 40K RPs I see around are overly focused on the darker parts of the setting, the cruelty and suffering, thirsting laughter of dark gods and all that. Not to mention it is often hard to have an open 40K RP where people can come in and have all the options that are truly available.

Which really kind of gets me onto the whole aspect of "But why a Rogue Trader?" and it's for multiple reasons. Primarily, I want something where we can have a crew of a former Rubric Marine, Tau Pathfinder, Skitarii Praetorian, and ex-Arbites all working under a half-Aeldari captain. Being a Rogue Trader kind of opens the door for all that like an Inquisitor but with less red tape and restrictions. But not only that... Well, it is one of the few places where there is still some semblance of hope, where you can find some actually happy people. And that's what I'm shooting for. Some big dumb adventure in space with a bunch of people who if they were anywhere else, would be seconds away from killing each other.

However, since I have three more points of interest that I was expecting within the first 24, I figure it would be beneficial to drop what we've got at the moment for a CS skeleton.

WH40K: Rogue Trader

So not the actual interest check in a way, but more so a gathering of interest phase. Testing the waters if you will. Currently working on a new thing between myself and a few friends on the concept of an RP set in the Warhammer 40k universe, though more in line with a proper character-based RP than the standard fare. The idea is to distance ourselves from the "Grim Dark" aspects of the setting and embrace what made it interesting and lively to begin with. A rather dystopian background with strange and quirky characters, going off and getting into epic adventures against the grave threats to the Imperium. And as some of you may have guessed, yes that means the RP is going to focus mostly on a Rogue Trader and her crew as they go on a big dumb adventure.

Sure, the idea is that there will be chaos, orks, tyranids and even the occasional brush with the Inquisition through the RP, but why not have a little bit of fun along the way? Like the crew going into the unknown and half-assing their way to profit and vague glory. Perhaps exploring great dangers, very nearly dying and then lighting up with a group of people that sound more like the start of a joke than an actual crew. Or maybe, just maybe, a cast of desperate souls seeking something better in the galaxy than the endless carnage and suffering, some who have lost everything, some who never had anything to begin with, and a few who just want to make an impact without a bolter or chainsword.
