Despite the Palm Beach Police Department being, in fact, a police department of a city that was highly regarded as the kind of city that catered to a high level of quality than most cities in South Florida, their jail cell wasn’t exactly up to code. When Kavi got there and was booked on bullshit charges (his words, not the cops), he was placed in a holding cell. And this was all after he tried to call his parents, but either they weren’t answering or they weren’t awake. Either way, Kavi had to spend the night in jail. As one might be able to surmise, that was just a fun experience.

As he sat there in the cold, somewhat damp cell, the only thing that crossed his mind and the only thing that would ever cross his mind in the almost five hours he wandered around the cramped cell, was how he landed himself in this position. His mind went everywhere from how he snuck his father’s prized, if not somewhat-hideous, Ferrari away from the garage and picked up April. Maybe he made the mistake of not choosing a more lowkey car from the collection. Or maybe Kavi’s biggest mistake was indulging in the need for speed and nearly getting away from the cop.

He kept going it over for multiple hours. Kavi was a point of actual confusion, but more to the point, he wondered why his parents didn’t answer when they did. It was a Saturday and he knew them to be up rather late on the weekends since neither of them had to work. Knowing both of his parents as he did, Kavi knew something was up.

That particular thought stuck with him even after he went over everything about last night’s dance in his mind. Every point during the night from when he danced with April (and had watched her leave) and his brief conversation with both Nadia and Ariel led him back to the exact moment he felt like maybe he had fucked up. A single moment when he had dated not one, but two girls in the same gap period of twenty-four hours without telling them.

That was his downfall. It was why Kavi had a makeshift nose cast on his face. It was why he had to get the cast in the first place. It wasn’t why he was currently sitting in a jail cell, but Kavi was certain the domino effect was how he landed in the predicament he was in. With no safety net, he knew it was his own fault. He knew the blame didn’t fall on anyone. It didn’t fall on his father for not taking extra precautions to prevent his car from being stolen by his own son nor was it April’s fault for appearing to egg him on during the car chase. It wasn’t Ariel or Nadia’s fault for how they fell for his charm.

This was none of their faults. He was the only one to blame and the only one who could truly know that he did this to himself.

“Salvador!”

Kavi didn’t hear it the first or even second and third time, but a fourth time was enough to bring the young man to turn his head towards the cell. He saw a single cop of middle age standing in front of it with keys that were turning inside the lock that separated Kavi from the freedom.

“Your parents are here. Let’s go!”

And in the deepest regions of his stomach, Kavi felt something was twisting it. Even as he walked side-by-side and he reached the front of the police station, Kavi knew his troubles were only getting started. Whatever waited for him, he knew with his mom’s usual temper always flaring at him and his father never really being anything but all smiles, when he saw both of their disappointed faces, Kavi Salvador knew whatever waited for him was nothing but trouble for him.

“Mom, Dad, I--”

“Not a single word. Now let’s go.” His mother’s cold tone hit him harder than Ariel’s fist did.

He wanted to say something, but there was nothing he could say that would make any of this better. So he didn’t. Kavi, for the first time, had felt the same fear that most, if not all, of the weaker kids he picked on felt when he tortured them. It wasn’t that she was his bully, but if anyone could strike the fear of God into him, it was Veronica Salvador.

And like he had known her for all his life, as soon as they were away from the police station and inside the family SUV, she began to unleash a known anger-led fury on him.

“I don’t know where to start with you, Kavi! We raised you better than this!” Vivi began, looking him dead in the eye as Kai drove. “We tried to understand you. From you constantly picking on those weaker than you, we knew you were just doing it to get attention or maybe to test us. And we’ve tried to do everything we could to give you space. But maybe that was our fault. Maybe you just needed a firmer hand. Honestly, though Kavi? I don’t even know where to begin!”

“You don’t have to--”

“Did I say you could talk!?”

Whatever breath Kavi was about to take, it had been broken by his mother’s sharp tongue that could cut steel and make it appear like it was butter.

“I’m so disappointed in you and angry with you, Kavi. I know this isn’t you. The boy I--” Kai coughed, ”--we raised isn’t like this. You aren’t this person. The person who bullies others, the person who steals and lies to us isn’t the son we raised. I just--”

Kavi went to speak, but in the time it took for his mother’s anger to be unleashed on him, they were already home. He was hoping to speak to his mother, but before the garage door even closed behind them, she left. She didn’t bother saying a single word. The only sound even remotely related to her was the sound of the passenger side door slamming and Veronica jetting into the house.

And if Kavi wasn’t feeling like a turd left in the desert, then he certainly was feeling that way right now. It was such a shock to him that he had not moved for a few minutes. Even after his father got out, his father who, for all of the disappointment he was feeling, was the gentler one of his two parents. This was proven to be a fact when Kai hopped in the back seat, next to Kavi, causing the teen to look at him.

“Dad, I--”

“Let me stop you right there. I’m still plenty angry with you, Kavi. You lied to us and used my car without asking. You know I would have given you permission, but you didn’t bother asking.” Kai tried not to let his ire show, but it was clear he had a difficult time doing that. “But I can see you are beating yourself up over it, so I won’t do more to you than you have yourself. Let me just say this: there’s going to be some changes from here on out.” Kai told Kavi, getting ready to exit the SUV.

“What kind of changes?” Kavi asked, a strange fear in his voice. It was almost as though he was afraid to know the answer, which was a rare feeling for him.

“We’ll talk about it Later. For now, get some rest. I’ve got to work, but your mother will be here all day.” Before Kai closed the door, he looked to his son. “And it should go without saying, you are grounded!”

So, this was Kavi’s new normal now. The reality of his past crimes firmly taking a stance. He may or may not have a criminal record and was going to be under the watchful eye of his two parents. As bad as everything that happened to him and that was said to him, none of it came close to how he was feeling. It wasn’t just the prospect of facing a judge at some point in the future or being grounded or even having a broken nose, it had everything to do with Kavi Salvador finally realizing the things he thought were harmless acts and what he thought was “no big deal” was, in fact, a very big deal.

He hurt people. And it wasn’t just random people he hurt. He hurt everyone who had known him up until a year ago when he started acting out. Because of Jason. Because Aiden moved away. Because everything that happened around the same time, Kavi became a jerk. He developed the terrible habit of inflicting the pain on others that he secretly felt himself. Oh, how he hated the way it made him feel, but moreover, Kavi hated that his actions drove away from the friends that he knew that thought he was their friend. People like Marisol, his cousin through the complex web of relation-by-marriage. People like Jun Wang who was a close acquaintance of Kavi’s before he became such an asshole.

Everyone became alienated from him because of some insecurities Kavi kept secret. But none of that was so prevalent than the one person who he treated the worst.

Ariel Gray.

From the get-go, unlike everyone else in his life, she sort of just stuck around. Whether it was because of her crush on him that was more obvious than Archer being gay or Stella being a klutz or her just being a genuinely good person, Kavi took advantage of that. Not only by using whatever feelings she had for him to further his womanizing agenda but when he had gotten what he wanted from her, he threw her aside without even telling her.

“Good going, right? Cause you’re just so great! Right?” Kavi said to himself as though he was looking at someone he barely recognized, someone he hated. The reminder that he needed was staring right back him. His broken nose, which was aligned to be healed, served as the proof that he was wrong.

“That’s quite the shiner you got there, dum dum!”

And if he wasn’t feeling bad, his kid sister always knew how to make it worse. “Isn’t it a little early for you to be up, Nikki?” Kavi didn’t bother to face her.

“So what if it is? Not like it compares to the shit storm you’ve created for yourself,” she pointed out.

Rolling his eyes, he walked past her and she followed him, causing Kavi to stop. “Is there something you need?” He asked her point-blank. He might be hating himself right now, but his patience for his sister's teasing was decreasing the more time ticked away.

She simply shrugged. “I just thought you’d be happy to know that, despite your royal screw-up, not everyone has joined the ‘I Hate Kavi Salvador Club’.”

He really hated his sister’s vague implications. She was never helpful and always had something clever to say. A clear indication she was truly the daughter of Veronica Salvador.

As he shrugged his mild annoyances brought on by his kid sister off, Kavi returned to his room, grabbing his phone from his dresser that was just a few feet from the door. He saw it was barely past ten and he yawned. Almost as soon as he opened his eyes up, sitting on his bed was the last person he thought he’d ever see, let alone in his room.

“Ariel? What are you doing here?”

I like creating characters regardless. Like, it's just that simple. I enjoy the character creation process. It's fun for me thinking how I can add my own spin to a stereotypical trope of certain "types" of characters and/or ethnicities I may go with. And as much as I enjoy making new ones, I also enjoy reusing and developing already-made characters. I don't see anything wrong with that. I mean, if you're just reusing the character because you're lazy and you don't want to make a new one, then I can understand the argument against reusing characters. I, for one, am on the side that likes to reuse characters to develop them. I can explore unexplored paths that I hadn't been able to the first time around. Using the same character multiple times allows you to get to know the character more and figure out things about them you didn't know before.

With the assembly over and the students, who by now were either getting better acquainted with their roommates, the staff had gone to make sure the festivities planned for the week were all going according to plan. As they did that, Hector and Helena walked alone through a section of the administration building that led to a secret passageway. It was revealed to them as both of them had pushed one palm next to each other on a marble wall that had a beam of light quickly glow down the center of the wall both vertically and horizontally. It would soon divide into four, revealing a stairwell going down.

The husband and wife duo soon found themselves nearly fifty stories below the campus and in a room lit brightly by monitors upon monitors that had every inch of Olympus Academy shown on some sort of surveillance system. About a dozen people, mixed of various races from human to something less than human, sat behind monitors of their own, surveying the bigger monitors. On the bigger monitors, there was everything seen: the residential buildings, the Ares Colosseum, the shops spread throughout, the forest and the lake. Every inch was accounted for.

“Any changes?” Helena asked from beside her husband.

“No changes, Mam. There has been no sighting of that strange shadow we saw last night. It’s almost as though it vanished without a trace,” Damos, the head of the security division of Olympus Academy said. He was the one who oversaw the day-to-day operations when Hector and Helena were away.

“How can this be?” Hector asked, concerned. “It was a Level Ten warning and now it just disappeared? Level Tens don’t just do that.”

“I agree it’s strange, but as far as The Eye can see, there hasn’t been anything since the disturbance last night.”

Just as Hector was going to retort, Helena held her hand up. “What time?”

“Pardon?”

“What time did this disturbance occur?”

“One sec.” Damos turned to one of the creatures who worked for him.

After about half of a minute, it was brought on one of the larger monitors. A clip of a monster shaped unlike anything anyone in the room had seen in any of their hundreds of recorded logs of monsters from all Greek Mythology. As they watched the entirety of the clip, Helena was left disappointed as it seemed to glitch. The footage went white noise, a loud buzzing sound that was sensitive to any non-Godly ears was heard, causing the non-humans in the room to wince in pain.

“Stop the clip!” Hector ordered.

When it was stopped, it took a moment for all in the room to regain their composure. Once they did, the air in the room was, if nothing else, full of troubling thoughts. Something so dangerous was in Olympus Academy.

“I don’t like this,” Hector mused, biting his thumb.

“Nor do I,” Helena echoed her husband’s concern. “Keep us updated every hour, Damos.” Like she always had, Helena made the quick decision. “Also, Damos.”

“Yes, Headmistress?”

“Keep an eye on Mr. Relo. I suspect he’ll try something. That Son of Apollo is always trying to cause more trouble than he should. If there is any strange activity, do let Anastasia and Brandon know. I have a feeling they’ll know exactly what to do should the need for it come.” The coldness in her voice sent a shiver down everyone’s spine and she quickly walked away. “Come on, Hector!”

And like a whipped pony, Hector followed. As they climbed the stairs, Hector still felt bothered by what they saw. “So, you’re not worried?” He asked.

“Of course I’m worried,” she responded as if waiting for his question. “But I also know that we can’t show weakness. You, of all people, know weakness doesn’t sell confidence, especially since we are the ones the Gods of Olympus chose to protect this school and their children. If there is something out there that threatens them, we will crush any threat with such force, whoever dared send them our way won’t have the nerve to do it again.” Helena said all of that without waiting for any input from Hector.

And as she said that, the two went about their daily business. Helena would head off to her office to handle paperwork. Meanwhile, Hector, knowing the Academy was in good hands with the barrier surrounding it and the staff that was tasked with protecting the children, went to his own office to sit on everything he learned, hoping it would all work itself out.

“I just hope she’s right.”

The day had gone by surprisingly fast and surprisingly for Vivian, she hadn’t even noticed.

Usually, the Daughter of Apollo was on top of everything. She didn’t always have awareness of time, but she always knew when the sun was near sunset and, based off of how close the sun was behind the mountains she saw in the distance as she sat in the main courtyard, it was clear it was at least seven in the evening. How did this even happen to her? After getting settled in her apartment with Leo Sullivan who was, for all rights, a pleasant boy. She couldn’t believe when he told her he was only twenty-one. Gosh, if that’s what passed for twenty-one, then Vivian should update her eyes and the assumptions that came with them. Good golly, how could she be so rude to him. Hopefully, he didn’t think she was rude.

But, after that, she decided to take a stroll by her lonesome - well, that is to say, she was supposed to be meeting a friend. The new girl named after Demeter’s daughter Persephone. She wanted to make sure she got settled in, but not even minutes after the meeting between the Experiment Club ended, she was pulled away by a gust of leaves. Really weird. She didn’t know what on Olympus happened, but the rumor was spreading that Demeter didn’t like that she was being partnered up with Damian Black, the Son of Nyx. Could be from fear or how he looked like a bad influence. Both were believable because he didn’t look like the type who wouldn’t be a bad influence. She could still remember how scary he was last year.

“Best to stay away from that one,” she mused to herself, laying back on the grass. As she looked up, she could see birds flying by. That brought a smile to her face. Seeing birds in a group enjoying themselves. This was what she needed to end her day. It was the perfect end…

...But, of course, Vivian couldn’t get everything she wanted. Quite literally, a vibrating sound was felt on her stomach. It was her phone and she only received one text. It was from Dal, which wasn’t much since he texted her all the time. Sometimes it was to bug her, but mostly he sent annoying memes and gifs that were just the same memes but animated. This time, however, was a little different. Of course, he included some sort of meme, but there was something about it that was weird.

When the sun falls, shadows consume, but it is by the clear where clarity is found.

And as she thought what he meant, she received another text from him again.Party by the lake. Don’t rat.

As she laid there, somewhat sitting up, Vivian contemplated if she wanted to go. She didn’t particularly care for his parties, not when she knew how wild they could get. On the other hand, she wasn’t doing anything and Vivian promised herself she would try and make new friends this year. It was bad enough her only friend was whisked away to god-knows-where.

So, with the clothes on her back, Vivian went towards the forest where she would no doubt be in for a long evening. Hopefully, there would be fun along the way.

Damien Black wasn’t happy in the slightest.

The day wasn’t over and already he was considering blowing the entire year and getting his road trip on, but of course, that meant somehow incurring the wrath of his mother dearest. She wanted him here and he needed to be here for his sister. Despite everything in his gut that was trying to push him out of the doors, he stayed, but he still was pissed off.

“Of all fucking things, I’m now the only loser who doesn’t have a roommate because that Goddess of Gardening decided to take away her poorly-named daughter away because why? Oh yeah, because she found out I was to be Percy’s first roommate.”

Damien walked through the woods, his sister not far behind. And by ‘not far behind’, that meant trailing next to him as close as humanly possible. He didn’t mind it, or rather he wasn’t aware of the fact he minded because he was so blinded by his growing rage.

He kept ranting on and on just a bit more until they reached the lake. How this happened was beyond him, but he welcomed the seclusion. Anything to distract him from what happened today and the embarrassment he felt not having his own roommate. Even after nearly twenty minutes, he wasn’t any less unhappy. It frustrated him to be completely honest. He actually thought this year would be different, but the more he thought about it, everyone works against the Nyx Children. Whether it's being afraid of Emma or justifiably being afraid of Damien’s anger, things never really changed.

As he took a seat close by it, Damien sighed out a big one. “Just watch. Soon enough the staff will want to put me on probation, thinking I somehow threatened that Neotera girl because I’m just so bad.” Damien looked over at Emma, noticing how quiet she has been the entire time. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to lay all of that on you. You probably didn’t want to be forced to hear all my troubles. At least you have the pleasure of having a roommate, even if it is that bothersome Aiden.” He apologized, calming down just a bit.

Whether it was the sight of Emma beside him or the soothing nature of the lake, Damien was starting to lose just small fractions of his anger as he heard the sounds of the water and the wind brushing the leaves gently. Nature really was peaceful.

He had known for a while that Audrey was a bitch and she had known him to be the kind of idiot teen boy who sometimes said the wrong thing, but it always came from the right place. Sometimes she responded in the way that he thought she would. And when that would happen, they’d find a nice, quiet place to really commemorate the situation with something very intimate. So Audrey couldn’t blame Alex for thinking this was one of those times. She sometimes said or did things in code. How was he supposed to know what she really meant?

As he sat there, waiting for the light to turn red, he ran almost every word he said and played it back over and over again. He was hoping to figure out what exactly it was he said that made her so angry. He only suggested they have a quickie. Compared to other times he opened his mouth, the way she snapped at him paled in comparison. He honestly didn’t understand it and it was driving him almost as insane as Audrey was sounding. He wanted to know what was up, but he waited too long for that. The light turned green.

He looked at Audrey’s face and as he did, his eyes went down a little south. She wasn’t kidding, he mused in a low murmur. It didn’t occur to him that people were behind him because, no more than a few seconds later, he heard honks from behind him. And Alexandros took off, pushing his foot on the accelerator and drove forward. She said she wanted to go to the hospital, then fine. If that would calm her tits down, then he’d happily take her there, but if she thought he was going to not say anything further, she clearly didn’t know him at all.

Alexandros took a detour as he took one of the back roads to Beverly Hills General. It was a deceivingly quicker route that allowed him time to know exactly why she was acting the way that she was. “If you want an apology for wanting to please you, then you can forget it,” he stated to her, turning right without even stopping, causing both Alex and Audrey to whoosh to the side. “When you tugged at me back at the Ball, how was I supposed to know you wanted to go to the hospital? All you said was we needed to go.” and he kept talking, possibly digging himself deeper into his grave. “The least you could’ve done was specified what you wanted before misleading me. Is that so much to ask?”
