Before joining the B.A.U., Sam worked with a high stakes frim on Wall Street, acting as their press liaison during the late 90's and early 2000's when she was in her 20's. With a Bachelors degree in communication, she outdid the other candidates to earn the highly coveted position. She then went on to earn her Masters before hearing about a profiler position opening up in the division in 2009. Considering the job market at the time, she jumped on the chance and her years of reading people during press conferences proved to turn the tables in her favor.
When working with the firm, Sam began to teach herself how to read micro-expressions on reporters and clients so she could better shut them down. Every major takeover that she facilitated behind the scenes, she earned a raise and a reputation. When she began to tire of the same old takedown day after day, she began to search for jobs that would take her just far enough away from the city to give her a sense of a new beginning and a family friend in the Bureau told her about a position opening up soon and she applied as soon as it went public.
Two months of interviews, three physical tests and a gun exam later she was hired onto the team where she promptly realized that she was going to have to work far harder than she had expected to prove that she belonged. Now that she has been with the B.A.U. for just over a decade, she is sure that she will not leave until the universe has made it abundantly clear that it was time to move on. Her husband left the F.B.I. so there would be no speculation of playing any kind of favoritism even though they were in different departments, and is not a personal kickboxing coach- using his years of experience

Background informationComing from a big family (4 children), Sam learned at a young age to fight for what she wanted and she learned how to win. Learning this skill and creating a trait out of it has accompanied her through many jobs, relationships, and was a huge reason into why her husband wanted to keep her around and share his last name. Her drive, her sarcasm, terrible jokes, and natural maternal nature kept their relationship strong through the scrutiny and trials of dating under wraps at the Bureau. Oh, and the fact that she beat him more than once during a gun range exam with a near perfect score as incredibly impressive. Both times.
Sam was glad to have someone who was capable of getting to know, accept, and love both sides of her life. Her team saw a different side to her than she displayed at home. She tried her best to keep work and personal life separate around the kids, but was unafraid to cry and lean on Ben for emotional support on some of those incredibly tasking, draining, and dangerous cases that she would take with the team.
They were her extended family and she was fully prepared to take a bullet for any one of them if it ever came down to it. Now in her 30's, she knew that she had to live life fully with her team, and with her family in order to feel alive and whole.
