My blade carries with it the harsh frost of the wintry winds. Dancing with the rage of a blizzard, its speed matches the transience of an icy petal.

The two lackeys weren't of much help, they panicked and exclaimed they didn't know anything about the woman back at the temple. Their masked leader, however, seemed to know her quite well. Shizuka listened intently to his explain of the true story behind the woman's situation: apparently this brigand force saved her from a Varjan attack. Afterwards she fell in love with them and even offered them food. Problem was, said food was from what little her own family had available to them. Naturally, the family resisted the bandit's advance on their home; Shizuka and Eula had already seen the aftermath back at the homestead. But it seemed the woman didn't care about the fate of her kin until her savior ended up discarding her. A tragic tale to be sure.
Thought it he didn't want to, he had to admit that the brigand was right: they had been duped.
After the man's explanation was over, Shizuka stood back up, the masked man still in tow. "Let's go, Eula-san. I believe we've wasted enough time on these droogs. We'll detain them at the temple and decide what to do with them later."
As Atsuha expected, the young lord had denied her suggestion for finding a different way of dealing with his 'situation'. Although, she ultimately did understand his reasons for doing so. "You are nothing if not just, my lord. Your concern and honesty toward your people is admirable." She paused for a moment, adopting a warm but stern smile. "However, I will remind you that we are here on behalf of our benefactor. In addition to defending this island and it's people, we are to do everything in our power to aid the heir to the Oja house - you milord. So, I do believe that we will worry about you as our job demands as such, thank you."
Feeling his hand on her limb admittedly did set at ease, even if only a little bit. She placed her hand on his for a moment, looking him in the eye to again confirm his resolve. She then gently broke away from him. "Well, if that is your decision, I will respect it. I wish you luck and hope you have a pleasant evening." Atsuha said, making a polite bow and walking off back to the others.

Hinami barely managed to notice Skarsneek whilst in the middle of gorging herself on tonight's dinner. She turned to him, still chewing on a fish bone. "Mmhhf, hhmmfgh! (It went well actually!)" In place of what she was actually saying, all Skarsneek would hear was muffled nonsense. That was fixed after she took a large swallow. "Luna especially was a really big help! With hers and my sister's combination spells, the enemy never even saw it coming. Oh, but I clobbered a bunch of them with a club I summoned and I even kicked some of their teeth out. I might even have a tooth or tow still stuck to my shoe. Whoops! Might not be good to talk about such things while at the dinner table." She said, rubbing the back of her head while making nervous laugh. "Oh, I forgot to mention! Sorae-san has a really cool ability where she can turn herself into a ghost and make attacks pass right through her!"
She put a finger to her chin, still processing thoughts. "Oh, and we recused this really plain looking woman from a barn. She was so scared of sister that her yell scared the birds away, so Luna had to carry her back!"
"...Hinami, sweetie, you really shouldn't talk with your mouth full!" Atsuha said, shoving another riceball in her mouth. "Hmmfh mmmghf! (Hi Nee-san!)" One would assumed her reply to be.
Atsuha then made her way over to Skarsneek, after which she began rubbing his chest and placed her arm around his shoulder. "Dear lover, I do believe you mentioned earlier about feeding me tonight? I'm here now, and waiting~" She then took notice of Io making eyes at the High Orc, where Alice was being more forceful in her approach. "Oh my, someone's certainly gotten more popular~"
Her face turned sour as Kerry tried to promptly put a stop to Alice's flirting. "Kerry-san, I know you're a hornet or wasp, or whatever, but must you be such a buzz kill? From my understand that poor girls been through alot, so why not let birds and bees be free? Let her indulge herself for tonight." Atsuha then dawned a mischievous smile. "Or perhaps there's a bit of envy welling up inside of you?"
Lucrecia spat a swear at the oncoming onslaught heading her way. As the little devils let loose a beam toward her, she dodged to the side to narrowly avoid them. Not missing a step, she then let off another volley of piercing rounds at the hellhounds closing in on her. She aimed precisely to ensure she would hit a few of them in the head. These ones had a peculiar regenerative ability, much to her chagrin. But hopefully well placed bullets to the head would at least slow them down.
"Oh diavolo! Polina, we need to leave now!!" She exclaimed. Her comrade regrouped at her side, child on tow.
As soon as an opening presented itself, they would make a break for it. She was starting to wonder if it was even worth it to continue looking for survivors. They had their orders, but the situation was looking less than favorable.
All Lucrecia could do for now was provide cover fire for them as they made their escape.
Eon Tower - Mid Morning @PaulHaynek@ReusableSword@Inertia@Enkryption@Hammerman@FrogRFlowR Arteus took a moment to look everyone over, taking note of Leon who decided to leave for the library. For the most part the newly gathered reavers were silent, simply ready for whatever task awaited them. It honestly surprised him a bit, perhaps some were nervous. No, he saw the looks in their eyes: they were prepared. This, at least, filled him with some reassurance. Of course, some of the attendees had some concerns they wanted to have addressed, some more personal than others. Understandable.
@Blaze Gamma He turned to Aldin first, as his concern was the most personal. âAh, yes, of course. Aldin, youâve my promise that your mother is being provided the best care the Tower has to offer. That being said, please do visit her in the infirmary before you set out. Youâll find it further down the hall on the west wing when you exit this chamber. Our apothecary is tending to her now.â He then paused for a moment, the shift in his expression quite noticeable.
âAs for what that man you passed in the hallway was alluding toâŚIâm afraid thatâs a bit more complicated. Weâll go over that in a bit.â
The estranged elf Leon had left the room before he actually got to tell him where to find the library, but given his skill set Arteus figured that he could easily find it by himself.
@Polaris North@The Irish Tree The questions posed by both Shavis and Hector were fair and understandable; he felt it would be best to address them both at once. âGood questions. The best direct answer I can give is that it depends on the nature of the work. Due to our position in relation to the Association and the simple nature of the work, jobs with a myriad of characteristics come across our desk. Some will be relatively easy and will require only a small group or can even be accomplished single-handedly. Others, however, will be very difficult and require a larger group to safely carry out. As for whether team assignments will be permanent or rotating, thatâs something youâll have to work out amongst yourselves. Within this group of fine magus, I understand that some of you know each other already, so perhaps more often than not youâll want to sortie with them. Or maybe youâre the more outgoing and social type, and are enticed by building rapport with new people. Whatever the case may be, Iâm hoping that youâll make the best call when deciding which missions to take up.â He stopped to glance at Hector for a moment. âI understand that this may be different than what youâre used to, Hector, but I hope you can acclimate all the same.â
âHmm, I was honestly expecting more questions out of all of you. But, I guess I should expect as much from a group as focused and resolute as the one before me.â The sage smiled at Tilnak, who only asked when they would begin. Arteus clasped his hands together, after which a peculiar shimmering sound filled the room. Before the team appeared a few images, perhaps generated by some sort of magic, that contained various information printed on them. Of note, they seemed to be marked with stars, some had more than others.
âThese are the current objectives that have been brought to our desk at this point in time. From here on, you can see any new requests posted in the main hall of the tower, but for convenience Iâll show them here for youâ

Croc Crush To the southwest of the Republic lie the ZoHo Marsh, an expansive wetland area home to a myriad ecosystem. There are few villages that make their homes on the outskirts of the marsh and live off the land. As of late, an increasing number of Makara have began encroaching on the borders of the villages and have become a large problem for the locals. Much of their livestock have fallen prey to the amphibious creatures, even worse that some of the locals had the misfortune of being attacked. The village elder had reached out, pleading for immediate assistance.
-Naomiâs notes: "These creatures usually live very deep within the marshlands, despite their imposing and predatory tendencies they actually shy away from human settlements. Most never see one in their day-to-day lives. We feel that something may have disturbed them and caused them to leave their usual feeding grounds. We prefer it (myself especially) if you can resolve this without killing too many of them and investigate what may be causing this shift in behavior."
***
Badland Heist A well-known magitech manufacturer in the Republic has a plant stationed in the northeast region, a remote area known for its rocky terrain. The director of the plant has stated that several high-end weapons and tools have been stolen. This is especially alarming as the weapons are unapproved prototypes and pose a large threat in the hands of the thieves.
-Donovanâs notes: âAh yes, my corporation was in a joint-venture with this group. The prospects looked quite promising as well. As this location is in a remote area, support for their plant is fairly limited as compared to in-home sites. Still, if word gets out about this or if the thieves ensue attacks with the armaments, their reputation will go under. Please do what you can to see to this matter to avoid unnecessary destruction. Not to mention Iâd hate to have to break ties with this group."
"Naomi Schuller and Donovan Krausser are two key members of the Towerâs staff. Naomi serves as a researcher who specializes in the study of magical beasts and Donovan owns a firm that specializes in the research of apparitions. Both are wellsprings of knowledge, so if youâve any questions about the aforementioned quests, Iâd suggest talking with them before leaving."
"Now then, about the last oneâŚ"

Necropolis (Special Request) Recently there have been various attacks in the western plains that have rendered much of the region uninhabitable. Naturally, this is in part due to an abomination that has been running loose for the past few days. This one is quite powerful, far more than any average fell creature one would come across. However, more than just the beast, there is an issue where the overflowing miasma has created more monsters in the area. Naturally, this wonât stop until the beast has been destroyed and the fell energy purified.
This was a special request made by the leader of the last squadron who attempted to combat the creature. Only she, and a couple of others, survived the attack. While this is obviously a top priority assignment, Iâm afraid Iâll have to put my foot down on a few things for those of you who want to take on this request. I ask that only those among you who have direct experience with monsters and dealing with miasma to undergo this task. Also, Roze or Ruecian will accompany anyone who takes up the job - no questions. Right now this is just an investigation into the state of the matter at this point, the beast has moved on to another area and youâll be tracing its steps from there. If at any point the situation gets too dicey, you are to retreat. While I understand you all are skilled in your own right, we simply donât have the manpower to lose people on the field in such ways. Just focus on purifying the area and mopping up the lesser beasts for now.
âWith all that said, decide what jobs you want to take and feel free to disembark when prepared. Feel free to reach out if you need anything. Some more of my friends are currently out handling some business of their own, but they should be back soon.â Arteus then vanished in a violet veil of light, leaving the newly formed party to their devices. They were now free to either choose a quest and be on their way, or they could perhaps speak with some of the staff mentioned earlier to gain some more insight into the respective job. They could even take some time to become more acquainted with the Tower if they wished, Arteus didnât seem to be pressing them to take up the presented tasks.
âI donât much like the fact that thereâs a disruption in the ecosystem, it sounds like the Marshlands would be perfect for my fist mission.â It seems that Lapis had made her pick.
âHmph, if you want to go splashing around in some dingy old bog, be my guest! Meanwhile, that 4 star mission certainly sounds promising.â Replied Evelyn
âWhen hell freezes over maybe.â Said Ruecian. âLike Iâd ever let you anywhere near a place like that.â
âExcuse me??â Evelyn grew noticeably upset
âYou literally graduated from the academy and received your license a few months ago, do I even need to explain this to you?â
âBut-â
âThatâs enough Lyn.â Roze interjected. âHe is correct. Youâve never even seen a monster before and youâve no experience in dealing with miasma. You will have to choose between the other two missions.â
â...FineâŚâ Evelyn said in a defeated tone. She thought for a moment, perhaps taking up the arms plant job could be lucrative. It was, after all, owned by a large firm.
âThen Iâll go to the magitech plant, Iâm sure the firm would appreciate assistance from a genius like me.â And it seemed Evelyn made her choice as well.
@Silverstein Leon found himself in the library, reviewing any pieces of information that could aid him and his allies in the coming trails.
âIs it just you who decided to drop by? Guess among the new recruits, only you have a sense for preparation. I can appreciate that.â
Leon would hear a sudden voice, turning to its source he would see it coming from a man with long black hair and a shady disposition. âSorry, should probably introduce myself. Nameâs Kiff, Kliff Luther, and I manage things here at the Eon Library. Nice to meet ya, think I mightâve heard about you before. Somethinâ about some dude wearing a mask fighting bad guys in the dead of night?â He chuckled a bit, though he was probably the only one amused at the moment.
âRegardless, if youâre looking for something thatâll help you with the current jobs, I would suggest looking up info in regards to aquatic beasts and how to deal with the effects of miasma. Two of the three jobs the head cheese had lined up for you will involve the aforementioned dangers. Iâd personally recommend staying away from the latter for right now, though. At least until some of our stronger members get back.â His tone and demeanor were relaxed, yet his words still carried an underlying foreboding with them.
âAs for the third excursion, âfraid thereâs not much here that can help you. It involves the theft of state-of-the-art magitech gear thatâs currently not on the market. The top brass wants to be hush-hush about the whole fiasco, but a fine gentleman named Donovan could probably tell you more about it if youâre curious. Or you could just go directly to the site and speak with the director yourself, up to you.â
Kiff then stared at Leon for a moment, as if examining him. Sitting straight up, his left hand was visible above the table, but his right hand was not. He then leaned forward, his chin resting on both his clasped hands. âSay, you have the look of a rogue. You know, you guys are free to use the library as you please. However, weâd prefer you all understand that itâs more of a give and take relationship. As in, generous donations of whatever you find out in the field every now and again would be most appreciated.â He sat forward in his chair, his eyes full of intent and desire. âI think you know where Iâm going with this: if you decide to take up the issue at the magitech plant, say you find the perpetrators and obtain the gear back. I certainly wouldnât mind it if in some way, one of those nifty tools ended up in your hands. Then say, you decided to donate it to the library in a fit of generosity~â
This man was quite the character it seemed. âOf course, itâs not like Iâm demanding you do it or anything. Iâm sure youâll come across many treasures and wonders during your time here. But, Iâd definitely make it worth your while if you did.â Kiff then looked off to the side, as if disturbed by something. âUmmâŚanyway, f-feel free to take what you need to prep and may the Scions bless you on your journey!â He said in a nervous tone, putting an abrupt end to their conversation.
A salvo of bullets echoed throughout the desolate guard station as Lucrecia did her part in covering her comrade. She was surprised to find that a little girl had managed to survive this hell. Unfortunately, the desecrated corpses that laid before her insinuated that she was the only one among them who did. Polina has used herself as a barrier to keep the girl in the red dress safe from the horde of demons advancing on them.
"Polina, we won't be able to stay here for long! As soon as we find any more survivors we need to find an opening and make a break for it!" She said to her comrade. A lone hellhound had broken through the bullet barrage and lunged itself at Lucrecia, its razor fangs bared and covered in drool. The maid instantly flipped one of guns to where the blade part stuck itself into the beast's chin, the other end srickimg out of its head. The creature struggled for a moment, but its body soon when limp. Lucrecia quickly threw the beast to the floor and stomped on its head, making a satisfying splatting sound.
His plan uninterrupted, Shizuka's ice bolts hit their mark without issue. The crossbowmen yelped in pain as their hands completely froze over along with their weapons. "Apologies, gentlemen, but I'm afraid you won't be sniping at anyone at this point." He said, walking over to them. Taking his sheathed weapon off his side, he proceeded to bludgeoned both of their legs with it. Now unable to fight back, he also made sure they couldn't run away. "If you fella's have a moment, my comrade and I would like to ask you a few questions. We overheard a few of your friends talking about a woman who fell in love with one of your associates, and had even killed her whole family just to be with him. But it seemed that her love went unrequited, and she was abandoned. It hasn't been lost on me that my comrade and I may have been knowingly sucked into this farce, but we'd like to know the whole story."
He then turned his attention to Eula for a moment, noticing how easily she dispatched the remaining swordsman that tried to swarm her. Knocking them every which way with simple punches and kicks, kicking up dirt and debris in the process. Either that or subduing them with multiple torrents of projectile attacks, it seemed she had the situation under control. The remaining bandits throwing down their weapons and running away in a panicked frenzy only served to confirm this. Mission accomplished.
"Eula-san, that was well done! I trust you've no serious injuries, yes? Well, aside from the one on your arm..." He said, walking over with the two bandits he just got through tying up. "Could you watch this two louts for me? I want to check on that larger fellow, their leader. I think it's best we bring them back to the temple, we'll have them confirm with that woman the whole truth of the matter"
Phasing from view for a moment, Shizuka instantly appeared in the hole that was made by the leader sent flying. There he saw the brigand, lying belly up and the cannon ball off to the side. He immediately bound his arms and legs as well. "Up and at 'em, scoundrel." He said, kicking him out of the house and back into the fort clearing.
"Eula-chan, I believe it's safe to say that our business here is concluded. Time to head back and get some answers. Not to mention your arm would probably heal more efficiently off the field."
Much to her chagrin, Kerry went ahead and aired out the business between her and her goblin lover. But, she did raise a brow at her and even Skarsneek decided to include Hinami as part of it.
"What are you all on about? Hinami is just my sister, not my sister wife! I'm actually rather selfish and don't like to share! Besides, Hinami's never even seen his member." As she made her rebuttal, she realized this may have started to make things awkward for her little sibling.
That was before she turned to see that Hianmi was too busy stuffing her face full of the food the temple had prepared. She could nothing but sigh at the whole situation. Seeing some of the other members still obsess over Takeshi situation, she decided to leave them to their devices. It did make her worry that what happened between him and Alice would further ostracize him from his people, and the possibility of his execution was enough to change her mind on the matter entirely. She certainly didn't save him on the beach those nights ago just to have him be killed by his own people.
"Io-chan, just so you're aware I'm also a spell caster, and you look unsure about how to approach the situation if you don't mind me saying." She said. "Let me try and talk some sense into the young lord."
Atsuha followed after Takeshi, getting his attention and stopping him for a moment.
"Takeshi-san, could you spare a moment? Perhaps there's a better way to handle this situation. Having been here for the past few days, we've seen that your people's hatred for the yokai equals, if not surpasses the threat they feel toward the Varjans. I mean, some of the natives have even begun to ally with them! Some members of the taskforce, like myself, are quite magically inclined. I'm sure can find a way to work something out." She said, trying to reason with the young lord.
"Merda, Madonna, you're sitting right on top of it!" Lucrecia said, responding to Leoniya's inquiry about the demon. She had to admit, it was rather amusing to see the monster squirm in frustration. Still it seemed far from helpless as it gathered deadly energy from it's countless maws, readying to let loose on them all. Astreya and Kat fired their weapons at it while the tank had the monster pinned down, while it seemed to do some damage it was more annoyed that injured from the looks of it. Even Polina's sneak attack did little to change the situation. Lucrecua grimaced as the demon displayed it's supernatural strength in casting away the tank and Leoniya along with it against a nearby building. Taking care to dodge the corrosive liquid spewing from the demon's body, Lucrecia readied her blades and prepared to strike.
She was however, stopped as Leoniya emerged her head from the tank and gave her new directives.
"Ai suoi ordini, Madonna. We won't let you down! Polina, we go!" She said, turning to her Farisian comrade. She began making a break from the current battle. A couple of lesser demon had been attracted by the commotion, making their way toward her from some windows. Gracefully jumping over any instance of the corrosive substance in her way, she sliced a couple of the monsters in half with her machetes. One was about to jump down from the rooftop above them, but it was met with a couple of well placed rounds right in the head before it got the chance. It toppled over and fell straight to the ground, making a splatting noise as its disgusting blood started to flow onto the street. As she made more headway, she could only hope that there were at least some survivors left. Hopefully Myrilla's daughter would be among them...
