Bio
uhhhh, hi there
I am here and I sorta exist so yes this is my ‘bio’ and it will probably be rather brief and suck and be sloppy, just like me. So, without further ado..
stuff about me
• Most people call me Barti or Bart as well as a few other things since it’s just easier or meaner than the actual thing - I invite you to do so as well.
• I’m a 23-year-old (bday June 20th!) Texan who enjoys thunderstorms and rain far too much, and likes anime, running, metal music, and copious amounts of DRUGS candy, among many other cool things - like DnD and MTG.
• I enjoy group rps as well as 1x1s. For groups I have what I think is a decent array of interests, most of it being profusely weeb-y. I like Fantasystuffs (Modern especially), supernatural themes, pretty much all Japanese stuff - including historically accurate settings - as well as general dark/grim themes, comedic slice of life trash, academy rps, unique plots, etc. etc. As for 1x1s I pretty much do romance, but I can do non-romantic stuff too if you give me something to work with xP The only genre I find myself not entirely comfortable with is really sci-fi stuff, but, if the plot/idea catches me enough it can hold my interest. Oh, and my writing level is high casual to low advanced.
• I’m a sarcastic, snarky, bipolar-depressed, degenerate garbage can, but generally people seem to like me (I don’t know why in the hot hell you would) - but if you would also like to be my friendo lemme know. I don’t bite. Usually owo xd rawr
welppp...I guess that’s okay for now thanks for reading, you potatoes
Mm, looks like it'd be fun. Makes me think of warrior cats but with badass lizards, lol. Tentative on whether I'll join cause I'm tryna run slow atm, but we'll see.
Here my gal. Even though it's not the official thread yet, I always find it helpful to see how other people are working their sheets, so maybe this'll be helpful to someone. Pls pardon any errors, I am notoriously bad at proofreading.
Years of Magical Education: Seven Schools of Magic: Abjuration, Transmutation, Necromancy
Abjuration (8)
Spellbane McDaniel is especially adept at using her magic to disrupt the flow of others. She possesses a magical "armor" of sorts that she can "don" to defend her against the influence of magic - or at least that's how she describes it. Magical effects, depending on their nature and strength, melt upon it like snow falling upon a stovetop. This armor, while figurative of course, does encompass her entire body - and while it may seem a rather one-dimentional ability, can prove flexible if used creatively. She cannot, notably, sustain other magic while it is activated - and she must consciously maintain it.
Champion of the Weak In combination with her Transmutation magic, McDaniel can enhance her mind and body to function as a stalwart defender to whatever or whomever needs it. She can sharpen her being to steel her will with Abjuration magic, and strengthen her body with the Transmutive. This makes her especially resistant to enchantment-esque effects, and allows her to overpower beings several times her size - but it is notable that her physical durability is not enhanced. This ability, of course, cannot function in tandem with her primary technique, Spellbane. It also isn't activated as swiftly as Spellbane, requiring a few seconds for her to "sharpen".
Transmutation (5)
Animagus' Aspects McDaniel specializes in the Animagus' field of transmutation. Her animal form takes the shape of a black Jaguar. Despite the strength and agility of the Jaguar, she rarely finds this form appropriate, as it is not unassuming, nor is it particularly good for combating things of magical nature. It is, however, very fast and well-camouflaged outside of urban areas. With the nature of this creature being so concomitant to her usage and ability with this magic, a few side-effects, of sorts, accompany this technique even when she's not actively using it. These effects include enhanced senses such as hearing, smell, and balance - as well as more physical alterations, such as sharpened canines and the classic pantherian ear/tail combo, though these can be willfully concealed with magical effort, for a time.
Necromancy (3)
Dead's Whispers McDaniel can ascertain the final or current emotions, or sometimes vague thoughts, of a specific deceased individual. This requires a timely ritual and a personal possession of the deceased.
Personality
Methodical McDaniel is, by nature, an analytical and detail-oriented thinker. She rarely, if ever, suffers from tunnel-vision, being more than keen to keep her eye on the ball and the one who threw it. She is a voice of reason and logic when it comes to high-intesity scenarios.
Guarded McDaniel isn't readily available to most others on an emotional scale. Her upbringing is probably to be thanked for that. Although her reticent behavior isn't exactly a choice she made herself, she is aware of it and has made no efforts to change it. Emotional distance is probably the best for all parties involved, in her eyes. Her guarded demeanor, however, does have its gaps.
Adventurous Despite the sober air that she possesses, McDaniel is an adventurous soul. She's always willing to learn and discover, and can't help but seek clarification on things she doesn't understand, or hasn't experienced.
History
Kelly McDaniel was a mistake. No, really - her parents never wanted a second child. But they got one. They didn't want one because their firstborn child had ended in great tragedy. But, they were.. traditional, you could say, in a way. Putting their child up for adoption wasn't really something they thought of. And so Kelly they had. However, growing up under the tutelage of parents who appeared to only settle for you was what it seemed Kelly was born for.
That is, until they realized she had a natural-born affinity for Necromancy. This discovery helped open up a new chapter in young Kelly's life. From simple tolerance and apathy to the sudden grip of overbearing, domineering parenthood - the switch was flipped faster than the young girl could register. But.. it was oddly nice, for her. For 12 years she'd been treated with disregard, but now she actually felt.. loved. At least for the first couple years. Hers wasn't like the families she saw on TV or read in books. She was always doing what her parents told her to, without question. Even when she really, really didn't want to - which usually took the form of whatever magical training they put her up to outside of official capacities.
It wasn't always clear to Kelly why her parents always wanted her to work on that natural affinity - sure, they were always asking her to commune, but it wasn't so obvious to her that they were using her. Using her to talk to their firstborn. Tolerating her as a phone, as sick as it was.
But it became apparent eventually. As she grew older, she began to realize she wasn't truly cared for. And it caused her, over a time, to recoil from the school of Necromancy. The thought of performing it even made her sick. And at that point she decided to change for herself. She wouldn't be a tool for her parents anymore. She developed a fervor for magic that followed her own path - her own desires. After having endured a couple years of Necromantic study, she suddenly swapped, and set her eyes upon Abjuration. Her passion for the school far overshadowed what she had for her previous craft, and served well to expediting her progress in the school.
From that point her studies as a witch gained more momentum than they ever had before. As she grew in both age and magical ability, she drifted apart from her parents - if you could have considered them together in the first place. A few months after she turned 18, she went to college to earn her degree in Physics, with a Biophysics Major, ending her magical education by 19. After graduating at 22, Kelly took a job in her home city of Melbourne, Australia. After a year, she decided to move to the Americas to distance herself from her parents - now finding herself living in Shipden Peak, North Bennington for almost a year now. She joined the local coven around seven months ago.
I do not work under the assumption that one person is incapable of seeing things from the perspective of another. Understanding how another sees and experiences things is very possible.
I often play characters who are the opposite of my biological designation, simply because it feels comfortable to me. My masculine and feminine sides are both strong, varyingly so, simply dependant on the current moment or attitude I'm experiencing, one could say. A character comes to me - I don't generallytry to play a particularly gender identity - it's just who the person is that reveals themselves to my creativity box.
The wet plap plap plaps of Golduck's feet pittered through the halls that were quickly drawing upon vacancy. Small puddles of water trailed behind the large, duck-like Pokémon as it trekked along in front of its trainer, mostly oblivious to its surroundings in its excitement to get where they were going. Sibyl made sure to avoid stepping in such slippery puddles - a mistake she'd made more than a few times, when Golduck had first starting walking with her from the pools to the auditorium, as per routine.
The game of dodge-puddle would soon come to an end, however, as they arrived at their destination. The trainer followed her eager Pokémon inside, content to let her lead the way considering they were both now equally accustomed to the proceedings. The Golduck scurried forth, disregarding most of anybody that it passed, until reaching a spot at the near-front of the auditorium - their usual area. It slipped into a seat and tucked its tail to its side for comfort - though being roughly 5'7", the Pokémon was accomodated by the seat rather well.
Sibyl took pause for just a moment as she entered, letting her eyes scan the room. A few familiar faces - and a couple new ones - she thought it best to continue along unless stopped. She followed to her usual seat, spotting her sister, Maris, along the way as she did. She offered a silent peace-sign-greeting as she took her spot next to Golduck, who offered a jovial wave to Maris in turn.
In truth, the trainer was more nervous than she let on. It was their last year. They needed.. something.. to go right for them here. She was honestly quite proud of Golduck's performance, but it took more than just one Pokémon to win one's battles. She didn't want to fail her Pokémon, and they didn't want to fail her.
Which was why they would win this year. Whatever it took, they'd do it.
Full Name - Bairu Harukami Hometown - Tokyo, Japan Quirk Type - Emitter Gender - Male -
P E R S O N A L I T Y
Analytical Harukami is very analytical by nature. He will always try to observe things logically rather than emotionally, even to a fault. Everything has a reason. While being a sensible thinker is a great facet, Haru focuses solely on what logic would lead him to believe - which makes him miss things that could happen for nonsensical reasons or "just because".
Bright Haru is, at his core, bright in both intellect and outlook. While being an analytic thinker is nice, it is nothing without the intelligence to back it up. Inventive - Creative; it does truly seem that Haru's quirk was tailor-made for a thinker such as himself. While this side of him is rather persistent, his bright personality is still.. overshadowed by his extreme paranoia.
Paranoid Harukami is, well, simply over-paranoid. Nobody and nothing is safe from suspicion as far as he is concerned. He's always on the lookout for a betrayal or unexpected turn of events. Lies, inconsistencies, and the like are always at risk of being shone upon by the searchlight that is Haru's chaotic caution, of sorts.
Physical Description
Standing at 183cm (about 6'0") in height, Harukami is relatively tall - standing a good few inches above most of his peers. Aside from his height though, one of the first things that would draw one's eyes about him are the golden-beige canid ears that sit atop his head, as well as the similarly-colored, and rather "floofy", tail that he possesses. These light beige tones, when combined with his mostly-dark-brown head of hair, which he is content to leave semi-unkempt, create a mottled contrast that persists regardless of his attire.
Despite his height and actual lean athleticism, he carries himself with an odd caution of sorts. He seems as though he takes careful note to not touch anything he doesn't specifically mean to, and always appears ready to spare a glance over his shoulder. Most of the time, however, he doesn't seem to possess a particular sense of nervousness - he just usually seems.. ready. For.. something.
Personal History
Harukami's young life was unusual, but not entirely alien to some citizens of Japan. This was due to the simple fact that he was borne to a loving mother who was, unfortunately, partnered with a.. less-than-genial member of the local Yakuza. This led to a less-than-pleasant life, in turn. Sure, they wouldn't go hungry, but Haru's father wasn't as nurturing as he or his mother really needed him to be - he was very much the opposite. Nevertheless, they stayed strong for one another.
Violence and manipulation was a way of life for the young lad -- especially since his father seemed keen to involve him in his felonious activities. It is well known, however, that the night is darkest before the dawn. While it may seem heartless to think, it truly was a windfallen stroke of luck that the Yakuzaman was struck down at the hands of a hero around the time Harukami turned thirteen. His father's arrogance had allowed Haru and his mother to escape this life. And while things were financially rough, they would at least have freedom now.
The two were barely able to make it by for almost a year and a half, until lady luck seemed to finally smile upon them once again. Harukami's mother met a man who was, predictably, much more amicable than the last. He was kind - more humble than one would expect. To Haru he seemed.. nice. Perhaps too nice. Like an angel. Not to be trusted.
However, he stayed. He wasn't like his birth father - he was respectable, and he turned their life around. Haru still had his cautions - just like he had with anyone else, but now, after almost two years, he was at least comfortable around him. Afterall, he made his mom happy and had changed their lives for the better.
But their past wasn't just that - it had shaped who Haru and his mother were. Haru would never forget that, or wish it upon anybody. Abusive, horrible people like his birth father were wandering the streets and threatening people every day - and it made him feel sick to his stomach to think that villains could run amok unopposed.
Character Arc
Haru is a bit of a weird one. In terms of development, he would largely grow through abstract means or development of personality, rather than hard facets of his quirk or anything else. He has no friends, though he does truly want them somewhere inside - he's just too distracted by what most would consider a very negative, overshadowing personality aspect - his paranoia, of course. Something which.. I'm honestly not sure can be fixed, but we will see.
This also, in an odd way, extends to his quirk. Eventually growing to become more of a teammate to his quirk itself would be a good development piece for him, since his quirk manifests as a sentient entity that isn't really forced to cooperate with him. This bond is the only way his quirk can really strengthen in any way - as more of the Tome Beast's power is locked behind the strength of their link.
Quirk Description
Tome Beast is a quirk that manifests in the form of a sentient, canid-like monster that resides within Harukami himself. While there are many caveats to the quirk, the crux of it is that this beast, which Harukami has dubbed Akifusa (Autumn Tuft), is capable of summoning a book in which it can inscribe contingency plans, which alter predicted events in limited fashion.
There are several limits to these contingency plans - the foremost being that Akifusa must sacrifice one of its black claws to create one. These black claws - of which there are currently three - regenerate at midnight, at which point all un-triggered contingencies fade, or regenerate individually whenever a contingency is triggered. Notably, creating contingency plans takes several minutes, making it impossible to configure them mid-combat.
Aside from being unable to retroactively alter events or their results, these contingencies plans are largely limited to being responsive in nature, and as such require a good deal of foresight and particular planning to be useful. Also, while the triggering event has to be inscribed rather specifically, the effect Akifusa creates in retaliation can draw from a very wide pool of possible effects limited mostly by Harukami's imagination - though there is notable limits to the raw power of the effects that can be produced.
While paling in comparison to the Contingency Beast's true power, Harukami does inherit some lesser physical features of the creature residing within him. Aside from some visible canid attributes, Haru possesses slightly increased strength and endurance, and markedly enhanced speed and bodily senses.
Sibyl lazily raked a hand through her now-damp, pearly-blonde hair as the final of the afternoon's bells finished their shrilling. She ran a towel over her head a final time as she approached the bench on which her Golduck sat, patiently waiting. Its feet swung slightly below it as it looked up and gave her its greeting. "Gol!"
She offered a smile as she tossed the towel over her shoulder and grabbed her satchel from the bench, beginning to rummage through it.
"Gol?"
She didn't spare a glance up at her Pokémon as she pulled her sneakers from her bag and sat next to the duck as she began to slip them on. "Nope. You're not staying - we've still got our team meeting, you know that." She deliberately avoided meeting the eyes of her life-long friend. Despite their normal piercing gaze, her Golduck somehow had a way of using those eyes to make its trainer melt and give it whatever it wanted. But the meetings were important - skipping them would be letting a lot of people down. She finished slipping her sneakers on and stood to stretch, letting out a relieved groan. She then grabbed her satchel and nodded her head for Golduck to follow as she started a stroll towards the auditorium.
She heard Golduck's feet plap against the tiles of the poolside as it slipped off the bench in turn. "Gol.. duck." It mouthed defiantly.
Sibyl froze mid-step. She couldn't help but squeeze her hand into a fist at the comment. She turned, slowly, a look of subdued frustration clear on her face. "Don't.. talk like that." She pressed. She stepped towards her Golduck once again, her hand releasing its tight grip on the air as she gently placed it upon the shoulder of her Pokémon. "We've just been.. unlucky. We can do this, alright? Improvement is always possible. Plus.." She hoisted her satchel, which held her Pokéballs, gesturing at it. "..these guys are still learning."
The Golduck paused, looking over her trainer's face, before slowly lowering its bill in shame. "G-Gol.." Sibyl was quick to nudge her bill back up again. She looked directly into her eyes now. "It's okay.. you can make it up to me by battling hard." She comforted, letting a slight smirk grace her lips. Golduck's eyes were quick to harden once again and it let out an excited "Golduck!" As it started to resume its trainer's stroll, but even faster this time.
The two made their way, excitedly now, to meet up with the rest of the team in Room C-103.
