I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

”...What?”

— Luana Roycroft

@Crimson Paladin@Rune_Alchemist

Bears were a lot of things, but nimble wasn’t one of them.

Luana, deaf and biting onto the tree’s roots, was not in a great position. The lunging tree smashed into her with its lunge and carried her through the air. A tree weighing several tons was about to come down on her chest. She had little time to recover, even less after getting her wind back. Her body began to change again. Her flesh glowed, but that glow was snuffled out under several tons of cursed bark. She disappeared with a slam. The earth shook, nearby trees lost their leaves, and even those wearing earplugs might have heard a sound.

When the dust cleared, half of a druid stuck out from the base of the tree. Her eyes open in horror as she stared into the sky. She laid there unmoving with a drop of blood rolling out of the side of her mouth.

”...ow.”

Under normal circumstances, the lower half off Luana’s body would have been crushed flat, but the dirt was soft. The tree’s roots had been burrowing through it as well as a cavity from where the tree rested. The lower half of her body was hanging in this void, and the weight of the cursed tree was just enough to pack down the dirt around her. She was stuck, and might have broken something, but she was alive.

Something she hoped wouldn't change.

Luana had put off attacking the tree directly, but she didn’t have too many options. She’d have to put what wasn’t in her immediate surroundings out of her mind. Not hard, given that she was effectively deaf and couldn’t turn her head that far. But she could turn her head a different way.

She grabbed onto the tree with both arms and swung her head at it. Before Luana’s face made contact, she had given herself the head of a woodpecker, which slammed into the tree’s roots like a jackhammer. She didn’t need to kill it, but if she could clear enough of the tree away, maybe she could pull herself free. Though if someone wanted to help her, she wouldn’t pass up assistance.

”Yay! Rune remembered to tag me!.”

— Luana Roycroft

@Crimson Paladin@Rune_Alchemist

It wasn’t uncommon for ambush predators to retreat. While it felt like the fighting had only begun, there was no reason to assume something that preyed on villagers would want to fight trained knights.

Luana hadn’t acknowledged Lugh, likely because she couldn’t hear anything. The green cloth was still spilling out of the skunk’s ears as it ran after the tree monster.

Ethelred was likely the strongest out of all of them, but even he had to realize the situation wasn’t great. It was trying to run off with him and seemed to be assisting with splitting itself even wider. Was this even their mark or merely a puppet controlled by some mastermind? There was no way to tell, but destroying it was a priority.

The charging skunk gradually morphed into a larger shape. Its twig-like legs became furry logs, and a grizzly lumbered its way after the tree. A bear’s claws were unlikely to do much damage to such a thick trunk, but it may have been enough to strip the bark off the roots for a good bite. The goal wasn’t to put the tree out of commission, but to prevent it from running off.

”Can anybody cook this thing?”

”Something smells funny.”

— Luana Roycroft

@Crimson Paladin

Only the most inexperienced hunter would miss a tree, but a fool would expect to fell it.

Despite her distance, the foul tree managed to grab a hold of Luana’s ankle. Normal trees had extensive root systems that ran beyond their branches, and that was the case here as well. More roots would join this one, and the branches would come for her after they were done with Elnith. Beyond her immediate problems, she could feel the effects of the magical scent. It was impossible to discern where it was coming from, but not what was responsible for it.

While Luana’s spear had been ineffective, it wasn’t done yet. The handle grew roots like the tree it was thrust into. It had been blessed by druidcraft and was growing out of control. Luana had enchanted the spear's handle before she threw it, and had no idea where the spear would land in relation to the tree. So it grew out in all directions, twisting around anything it could get a hold of. A mere distraction for such a powerful foe, but a distraction was what Luana needed.

Her body changed again. Not into a cat, but a skunk. Her small legs were easy to pull free from the roots, which had coiled around her human-sized ankle. However, her smaller ears were not able to accommodate her ear plugs in a comfortable way. She felt like her head was in a vice, but she would survive.

Skunks aren’t known for their speed, but they can move quickly if they need to. At the very least, Luana wasn’t any slower than a human. She zigged and zagged, then zagged and zigged. Anything to make herself harder to grab. It would be problematic if she was caught a second time. She was headed for Elnith, but Lugh just happened to be on the way there. As she ran past the young squire…

She sprayed him.

If not listening to the music saved you from its effect, then maybe diluting the smell of the tree would also keep up everyone’s strength. She needed to get to Elnith to spray her, and then she could assist Ethelred. Luana had elected to help him last because he appeared to be struggling the least.

”That'll teach you to do things! Hah!”

Tonya “Mac” Murphy IRON MOUSE

Fried, baked, char-broiled or blackened, it didn’t really matter how Mac had her prey. Wolves weren’t picky eaters. So long as it was made of meat, they’d eat it. Mac was a magical wolf, and she only required magical sustenance. She used her tongue to clean the sawdust out of her teeth. Her regenerative powers should be working twofold now. While the harm to her body hadn’t been too severe, she did need to keep up mana levels if she was going to keep all of these spells going.

That is to say Mac was fine, but how would Iron Mouse react to this?

”Oh yea? Thanks to you too!” Iron Mouse hadn’t fared quite as well as Mac had. She was charred all over and had some burnt hay sticking out of her coat. There were even a few splinters if one cared to look close enough. ”How am I supposed to stylishly rip up the battlefield when I look like I fell down a chimney?” Annabelle No.3 had already turned her attention to the club soldiers of course.

But now there was a bit of a problem. Mac found herself without any additional orders, and several fronts to engage in. There were tons of people protecting the civilians already, and Annabelle No.3 was trigger happy and dull enough that she’d overwhelm the clubs with little issue. She’d only get hit a second time hanging around her. Assisting Penny was unnecessary to all of her patrons goals, and she hadn’t received word if she should engage Lily or not. What was Mac to do?

While she wondered, Beacon arrived.

Beacon’s arrival raised several questions. They had been slow to arrive, and did so with the help of… Oh god no. Not her, not again. It was too soon for Mac and MDP to meet again. It was all too much and Mac looked into her sword for answers.

“Wonderland has acknowledged our announcement to give aid to the civilians.” Ishtar answered, though she averted her eyes. “As long as you carry symbols of Beacon on your person and don’t engage the enemy you have diplomatic immunity. However, should Wonderland ignore our treaty and stage a direct attack on you…” She sighed. “...You are permitted to defend yourselves. However, I sincerely hope it won’t come to that.”

Really now? Did Beacon truly believe that if they kept their hands folded that Wonderland would keep to themselves? That was just one more reason Mac couldn’t stand the lot of them. You’d think a group that was run by the Ascendancy would be a bit more preemptive with Wonderland. But Beacon did so love its lip service. Aglobal, nay, multidimentional entity like Beacon had no reason to stand by while the innocent were harmed. Fortunately, this was a state of affairs that Mac could deal with.

Iron Mouse, blackened as she was, dug into the ground. But she wouldn’t surface for some time.

@Crusader Lord@Shifter_Master@Flamelord

Maybe the Beacon girls spilled out of the vehicle, maybe they drove towards their destination, but as they moved towards their objective they would spot a familiar girl behind them.

An old recruit seemed to have returned to beacon. Suwako Makiyoshi looked just as tired and glum as the last time they saw her. Her small body was shorter than her bow, even when considering the height of her horns.

Anyone who had been around Penrose Beacon long enough would remember her calm demeanor. She wasn’t above getting flustered, but she was mellow for a rookie and you really needed to search her face to find out what she was thinking. Right now her brow was crossed. It wasn’t enough to wrinkle the skin on her forehead, but it was just enough to show she was annoyed. Her fiery gaze was cast on the destruction before her. More importantly though, she had her bowstring pulled back. The arrow she was preparing to fire was the size of a man.

“This goes against the Beacon code. How can we stand aside while these raiders pillage the homes of the innocent?“ The beacon crest on her kimono glimmered as she let loose her arrow. The arrow’s girth was larger than some trees, and could be more easily compared to a battering ram than a nimble arrow. It flew into the club soldiers near Lil and Alex and smashed them back. It didn’t slow up and instead kept going, going deeper and deeper into their ranks.

Of course, Alicia’s eyes saw something else. Suwako was not there at all, and everything from her voice to the arrow was an illusion. Though the arrow was fake, it was masking a gravity spell that pushed everything in front of it.

“Don’t be timid! Get the civilians out and reclaim their home!” The illusion of Suwako charged towards the frey. “For the people! For Beacon! For the cardinal!”

"Oh santa baby, hurry down the chimney tonight!"

— Chloe Irving

Sure, Al was an intimidating guy. But after a short conversation, Chloe had gone from having her life threatened to being paid. She’d sigh in relief if she hadn’t already anticipated this outcome. But as far as Chloe’s plans went, that was a mere bump in the road. It really wasn’t in the Mint’s best interest to kill her. Chloe slipped the envelope into her jacket.

"Pleasure doing business." She pushed herself off of Al. Partially because she didn’t want to be covered in cigar ash, but also because leaning against men was not really her thing. Aurora was at least cute enough to warrant her attention. But Al? " I agree I’m not Marilyn Monroe. She died young. That’s not something I plan to do. Though you might become James Dean if you’re not careful." Chloe leaned up against the wall beside Al, though she made no attempt to look at him. Across from them was a dingy wall. Just some old brickwork that was long overdue for a pressure washing. No windows, and it had been graffitied one too many times. Not by anyone with artistic talent either.

"Penrose isn’t a simple place, you know? Not like it was months ago." She smiled and tipped her head back. "I was excited for it all! I could terrorize people with my ghosts, poison my patron, flirt with Penny, mess around with Beacon girls. The world truly was our oyster. Of course there was always a horror or two waiting in the wings, but that was just a backdrop, curtains on the edge of the stage." She closed her eyes and reminisce before looking back at Al. "And now? The ascendancy is out in full force, Wonderland’s forces are drawing closer, there isn’t a whole lot one can do on their own anymore. But the Mint doesn’t care about your setbacks. I mean, they’re the type of organization that would threaten you with death if you needed to unexpectedly leave. They might even approach you in some dark alleyway and threaten you with death!" She leaned her head against Al’s arm. "Even Elvis would have difficulty pleasing the Mint. I can’t imagine the situation is making them very happy. They value control and knowledge above all else, and I can’t say you’ve been a shining example of that recently." She quickly raised her hands. "Not that it’s your fault of course! You don’t get to choose who you recruit, nor do you decide when the next big bad arrives. The Mint doesn’t let just anyone become a coin broker. They must have had faith in you to give you a crack at Penrose. But that’s just comforting words, isn’t it? It doesn’t matter how long you work for them, we’re all just tools, even the mighty brokers." She looked up at Al. "But there’s a way out of this for you. Maybe you have an agent that’s proven they’ve got moxy. That they’ve got the skills to lead others and get the job done. Give them a promotion, let them handle Penrose, and you can wash your hands of this. Worst case scenario, that agent gets killed and you’re out an agent. Best case scenario, that agent turned coin broker owes you a pretty big favor." Chloe looked at her nails. "Saving your rear is wholly something I have the power to do. Don’t get me wrong, it won’t be easy, but I understand Penrose and its people better than you and any of the other knuckleheads under you." With a hop, she left her disguised form and turned into her magical self. This gave her enough of a boost to reach Al’s shoulder. She hung off of his arm while looking into his eyes. "Come on, Al. You gotta know when to fold them, but with me you can go all in."

”That tree looks spoopy.”

— Luana Roycroft

@Rune_Alchemist@Crimson Paladin

Luana continued to mimic her fellow knights’ behavior. Though it was difficult to do from the back. Ethelred was wearing a helmet, and the earplugs prevented her from hearing him well. Elnith wasn’t any more helpful. Her billowing hair made her face impossible to read. Lugh might have been a safe person to mimic, but his short stature and bushy scalp also obscured his face from Luana’s position. Was pulling your hair back out of style? Did obscuring your face give some advantage when fighting the enemy? Were thick bangs just “in” this year? She could make an exception for Ethelred and Elnith because one was wearing a noggin protector and the other was a woman. But little Lugh had no reason to grow out his hair like that. Though if it grew out enough, maybe it would cover his ears and he could pretend to be a plant. He’d need to dye it a bit, but it was workable. Maybe it was okay that he was growing his hair like that.

Still didn’t help Luana’s case.

It didn’t take Luana a moment to know that there was something up with that tree. Her imagination immediately got to work thinking of nightmare scenarios. They walk into the tree, one at a time, and a series of blades come out of the walls and dice them up. Or maybe the tree would draw them in and then crush them with a single chomp. Perhaps the trunk of the tree ran deep into the earth where a great beast waited to devour them. Her grip tightened on her spear. Her lips closed. Her brow furrowed.

”You’re going down!”

She charged to the front of the group and hurled her spear into the air. Poets would write about the speed of her throw, or how it cut through the air, but it was on par for an experienced spear thrower. Unless the tree moved, the spear would continue its arc and smack into the trunk.

”I was not pinged, probably because of the earplugs.”

— Luana Roycroft

@Rune_Alchemist@Crimson Paladin

Luana had mostly been addressing Ethelred, but the other knight and squire found time to interject with their own comments. If she heard Lugh comment on her beauty she made no attempt to acknowledge it. Elnith managed to catch the druid’s attention when she asked about her teacher.

”No!” She practically shouted her response. ”I mean, maybe? Possibly? I don’t know.” She hugged her spear against her side. ”Ever since I started my quest to find an elf, I’ve spent a lot of time in forests. Living in them, hunting in them, and once you become the forest’s friend, it starts to talk to you!” She held her chin. ”Or that was what I had assumed. Maybe the whispered instructions of the forest were actually a Tuatha who took interest in me. Maybe a distant admirer? But then why wouldn’t they approach? Oh, maybe it was an elf!”

But dreaming of such fantasies would have to wait.She offered makeshift earplugs to each of the knights.

”Oh yea! I should have known you were too cool for that sort of thing.” Her grin got just a bit bigger. ”You’re still not the coolest one here though.” Lugh’s refusal seemed to hurt her more, as she almost looked concerned. ”Really? I mean, your ear canal can’t be that wide, right?” She shrugged and grabbed a hold of her stocking. ”I think I’ve got some more material here to shave off.”

But she wouldn’t have time. Birds started to fall out of the sky, and Luana’s new companions were drawn towards something. Cloth ear plugs weren’t the best, but they seemed to do their job. She gave the knights a quick glance before correcting her posture and resting her spear on her shoulder.

”I’ll keep us safe.”

She remained behind the knights, ready to mirror their behavior. Their mark might know where they were, but had they anticipated one of them would be immune to their charms?

”Totally didn't retroactively change my banner.”

— Luana Roycroft

@Rune_Alchemist@Crimson Paladin

”The queen…” The druid’s smile relaxed as Ethelred introduced himself and explained the situation. But once he asked her to do the same, her smile returned. ”Oh, I don’t know if I’d quite call myself a druid. I haven’t had much practice with magic. I’ve been a hunter far longer than a druid.But since we’re all on a first name basis, why don’t you call me Luana?” She nodded, as if affirming an approval Ethelred had yet to give. ”As for why I’m here, I really just wanted to see some elves. I don’t know if there are any here, but I thought there were a lot of Unseelie. I mean, logically, you’d have to assume they are sort of related. Legends tell of times when elves protected the fey, so there has to be a chance the fey here know where the elves are, right? Right? Of course I’m right! And that also means our interests sort of align, don’t they? Different mysteries with the same common thread.” She rubbed her chin with a hum. ”I’d better come with you. You might actually find your mark if I stick with you.”

Luana opened up one of her pouches and pulled out a handkerchief. It was a dull red and quite old, and wasn’t difficult for her to cut one of the corners off. She twirled the corner with her fingers and stuck it in her ear. ”Your mark is a shrewd one. They won’t come out and fight us while we’re at full strength. They like to subdue their targets, maybe divide them up.” She cut off a few more strips and rolled them up. ”I wouldn’t take a chance with that song either. If we can avoid hearing it, we should tune it out.” Once she finished making a second pair of earplugs, she tossed them to Ethelred. The cloth froze in his hand as the heat escaped as white mist. ”Then again, maybe some of us should be able to hear the song.”

Once Luana had filled her ears, and made any more ear plugs that were requested of her, She stood up straight. ”If you want to lead the way, sir knight, I’ll keep an eye on our back. Just uh, someone give me a poke if something happens. I can’t promise I’ll hear anything unless you’re loud enough.”

@Rune_Alchemist@Crimson Paladin

And why not feel something was afoot?

Even if one chose to rule the cat’s position as a coincidence, it was still an unusual sight. Small cats like this were ill suited for the forest, often preferring to remain hidden from their many predators. The last place you’d expect to see a cat was perched on a tree branch. Even if Ethelred didn’t know much about wildlife, it must have seemed unusual that it hadn’t run off yet. Instead it looked back at him, its large eyes staring at his frigid helm.

It seemed content to do nothing. Its tail wagged side to side as the knight and feline continued their staring competition. But it did not remain this way for long.

”The talking ice block wants to know what I am?”

The cat’s form shifted. Its form grew taller, its shoulders spread apart along with its hips. Fur gave way to cloth and flesh, and the feline’s diamond shaped pupils turned round. In a matter of seconds, the cat had turned into a woman.

Braided red hair, eyes some shade between sapphire and emerald. They say that the clothes make the person, but it was hard to tell much about this woman by how she dressed. Her shirt and pants were short like an entertainer might wear, but she also had an ugly belt pouch that served some practical use. She wore lots of jeweled accessories, but her boots and gloves were well used. A bandit would have been more discreet, a commoner less so Which meant...

”I’m a human, of course! One who practices druidcraft.”

A human with a very large, very ominous looking spear. It’s grim appearance was a stark contrast to the woman’s lighthearted personality. She hopped off the tree branch and landed at the base of the tree.

”You’ve got a Tuatha kid, the most sinister looking sword woman I’ve ever seen, and you look like some crony a wizard would use to guard his tower. Yea, like, an ice golem or something.” She placed a hand on her hip and kept her spear pointed in the air. ”You still think i’m the weird one? The fuzzy eared kid must have excellent PR skills if he can get you two around without frightening entire cities. I dunno what you’re paying him, but its not enough.” Her grin got just a bit wider. ”So aside from slaying plants and accosting the local wildlife, what are you doing out here?”
That probably would have been an okay post if I wasn't writing it on Christmas, but here we are.

Thanks again everyone. You'll be the first to know when I decide to fire up Symphony On High, the unofficial name Symphony of Espers part 2. I mean, it'll probably just get turned into an acronym. Wait! That's not true, it would be an initialism. I know when people type out SoE they don't pronounce it "soy," even if that's pretty meme. But yea, pretty sure Symphony On High is just going to get called SoH or "sow" by everyone. Damn kids these days can't type out anything longer than five letters. I blame their smart phones and their texting. Back in my day we used telephones for talking. You couldn't take them with you, but they never ran out of batteries!

I suppose that's enough for a ramble. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.
