It's me, that dood, Citrus Arms. I'm 33, I sometimes work on a book a little bit, and I play a lot of games. I like me some MechWarrior or the X-Frontier series, but I also adore some good magic-fantasy. I grew up with Final Fantasy VI's magitech world, and worlds like Chrono Trigger, Zelda, and Star Fox. Lots of Nintendo, but some other stuff, too.
I like sci-fi and fantasy and space and combinations thereof, mostly.
Welcome to the guild! It's good to see new members. Don't forget to check general interest checks, too. Especially if you want something like a wholesome 1x1.
I'd be looking for either a 1x1 partner or a co-GM for a small group RP. I tend to have one primary character and maybe some supporting characters, but I can do more. Let's get right into it.
The galaxy has already faced the apocalypse. Much of civilization had been destroyed in the war against an unknown force of horrors. Not some strange, interdimensional horrors that defy logic or reason, no. These horrors were familiar, these horrors were flesh and bone contorted and stretched together with machinery to become horrendous abominations of destruction and violence.
The horrors came, and at the final hour of the Terran people, the apocalypse vanished. None remain to remember why, or even to remember the threat, but fragments of the doom that came remain. Parts and pieces touched by the taint, whole machines just waiting to wake and begin the mindless slaughter yet again.
Amidst the peace, obtained by ancient powers in a wild gambit, hope had been given a form. A new kind of material, crystalized energy, had been left behind in the wake of disaster. The substance would come to be known as Aevon, and it would power the rise of Terrans back into space and beyond.
A message left with the crystal would drive them. The apocalypse would return and once again threaten all that lives. It was up to Terra to unite the galaxy against the threat that would one day return.
There are many directions we can go with this.
A populated planet has been discovered nearby, and Terra sends a team that would vary in size, depending on the situation.
Interacting with another galactic empire that's recovering from the apocalypse.
On a planet that has allied with Terra and accepted her influence, we could go a more slice-of-life/magical individual route.
Star Trek/Deep Space Nine-ish thing on the roving colony ship.
Or we can talk about what you'd want to do.
There's all sorts of options. I've left out some details, as well, because there's a lot of details, and I don't want to drown people so quickly.
Personality: Carina is a very dry young lady, to-the-point but also with a sense of humor that can be hard to catch because of her delivery and mannerisms. She keeps to herself, mostly, and can seem cold, but she's just looking out for herself. Brief Backstory: Carina grew up with an artifact-hunting dad and a doting mother. She idolized her dad for the cool equipment he got to use, and the neat-o artifacts he sometimes brought home, though he sold most of them. Once, he brought her back a shiny, pretty, but otherwise unassuming crystal. Well, eventually, when she was about fifteen or so, her cool dad never came home. It took her about a year to figure it out, by which time she'd already started working to take care of her depressed mother. When her mother died, she decided it was time to try her own hand at hunting. Skills: Computer "Magic" - Carina has adapted previously existing systems to interface with her magic, using the crystal substance. Even without this interface, she's a skilled computer scientist. Machine Operating - From a lifetime of playing games and using interfaces, Carina is a natural when it comes to operating most machines. Besides the fact that many things are labeled, certain things have certain conventions that tend to be followed in their design. She's also a decent technician. Home Cooking - Having had to live on her own, at times on a tight budget, Carina has learned to cook for herself to save money. She's pretty good, too. Gardening - She's gotten herself a decent green thumb since she started gardening. She uses the produce in her cooking. Abilities: Crystal Interface - Using the crystals she's been growing, Carina has been developing unique systems allowed by the exotic properties of the crystal. This includes a responsive AI she's programmed into her core crystal. Hardlight Manifestation - Linked to the way she interfaces with her crystals, Carina can manifest hardlight into various shapes. She can use the manifestations as a shield or weapon, or for mundane purposes like plates and tools. Equipment: Crystal Garden - When Carina noticed the crystal she'd found was growing, she planted it in her yard, and started a garden around it. Core Crystal - One of the fruits in her garden didn't grow as a fruit, but some kind of dense crystal. This one was particularly pretty, so she kept it as a necklace and used it as a nexus core. Drones - Carina has taken scrap parts she found from various hunts and cobbled them together into a few remote control drones. The crystal she grows has turned out to be a useful material for filling in gaps. Faction: None
Oh, should I write in a description and set the image at the top? I'll do that later...
I imagine power levels, as you might call them, will vary. Agency and power are a thing to balance against each other, as well. How likely is this character to upend things vs how strong are they.
This was getting tiresome already. She felt Jesse's motions to calm her, even as impatience boiled below the surface. Yes, reacting off of that wouldn't do them any good.
Jesse caught the glimmer from the watchtower and flagged it in Lyra's HUD. Likely an archer. The villagers were on high alert, which was bad news for her. They seem to have accepted her answers, but maybe they didn't fully comprehend them. She said they admired the peace here, right? A mental sigh. They, too, were being cautious. It couldn't be helped.
Hardlight shield ready.
Not unless you have to.
She sighed heavily and had herself a seat on the ground, legs tucked together in front of her, "hope you don't mind, I'm older than I look." Maybe if she thoroughly lowered her guard, they'd have an easier time relaxing with her in front of them. This was stressful, anyway. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a white stick, tapered at each end. She stuck one end in the corner of her mouth and reached behind her, and as she did, one wing opened sightly and dropped a handle into her waiting hand. She brought it around in front of her and pointed it across her face, upward, before producing a flame and lighting up. She'd then return it, the handle floating back up into the pack. "I'm not a threat. To anyone. I've come here to meet our new friends, and I mean that. The old government was wiped out. We have no claim to you, and we don't want it. You've survived this long without aid, you deserve your autonomy. We only seek out allies, and ask to build the future together. Stronger."
Jesse began her windchimes again, sensing Lyra's nerves. The woman continued, "we come, seeking not to take, but to give. Now, if I were trying to pull a fast one on you, this is an awful strange way of doing it, right? I'm showing you all my cards. I even have a present for Zarah and Zigma, though I doubt you'd let me give it to them. I'd give you one, too, but they only gave me the one extra. You wouldn't get the full use out of it, anyway, and training to use one without an Aeva is rigorous and difficult. Anyway, whether you believe me or not, there's one thing you can't deny: I'm the only one that might know anything about Zigma. What he is. And I do, you'll just have to believe that."
She took the burning stick from her mouth and rested her hand with it on her leg. A thought occurred and she motioned to the elder with it. "Would you like some? This must be a fun day for you, you should relax a little."
