If you want to play both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I'd recommend trying out A Tale of Two Wastelands.

If they at least have the decency to say that they're leaving instead of simply ghosting the RP, that's good enough to me.

I originally got into forum roleplaying on the official Bethesda Game Studios Forums in 2007 or 2008. When the forums were replaced with Bethesda.net, I was one of several close-knit Fallout RPers who came here.

"I am sorry to hear about the deaths of your men, Luna," Ethelred spoke to the knightess. "It appears that we both were up against foes who proved to be much stronger than we anticipated. If I may ask, did they have anything to do with the bandit band that attacked Airedale, or were they an unrelated gang?" If the brigands from before were trying to obtain strength after the glaring defeat the knights had inflicted upon them, that could be a worrisome development.

This new knight, Niall, sounded like he would be a welcome addition to the group, if Sorcha could trust him. He noticed that the knight did not remove his helmet, and was curious as to why. Ethelred also never removed his helmet, but that was not by his choice- just like the rest of his armor, his helmet would not come off. There were many reasons why one might choose not to show their face, some more innocent than others. If he joined Sorcha's order, it would likely be inevitable that the others see him without his armor and helmet, unless it was stuck on him like in Ethelred's case.

Whatever the case was, another knight would be a welcome addition, especially with the loss of Od. From what Vyrell was saying, two new matters had already come up.

"I'd be willing to address the Unseelie sightings," he stated to Sorcha. "I know all too well the trouble they can cause, and they may have some answers that I seek."

Of course, it'd be unwise to go alone. The Unseelie were a tricky race, and Od's abduction was a grim reminder of how important it was for the knights to be watching each other's back.

Assuming Vyrell doesn't stay at the castle, he'll probably be more interested in the elves. Luna might be interested in the Unseelie if there's any chance that they were connected to the bandits' strength. I suspect Reinhardt will need to get his armor replaced or refitted, although he doesn't really need it. Fio is probably too busy working on her prisoner. Niall is a complete mystery to me, and I'd rather not put Lugh in harm's way, he thought as he looked over all the other knights.

Elnith, however, she might have an interest, he thought has he turned to the cursed knight, currently receiving some healing from Luna. The Unseelie wronged her far more grievously than myself.

Ethelred could feel his temperature becoming a smidge less frigid. Perhaps it was just the aura of Elnith's curse affecting his own curse. Clearly it was a strong effect, if it warmed him enough that she was able to sleep with her head on his shoulder without suffering frostbite. Perhaps the chill of his armor alleviated the pain of her burns. Whatever the rationale was, he was glad to be there for her.

He hesitated to ask anything anything, however- after all, Elnith was still recovering from her burns and deserved some time off after her very unpleasant imprisonment. While his face could not be seen, the others might notice the direction he was facing, and the ice thawing on the outer edges of his armor, with beads of water running down his helmet.

Fleuri Jodeau

"Truth be told, I was following Lucas' lead," Fleuri said, firmly patting Lucas on the back. "As exhilarating as it was, I think I'm content on doing it only one time, however. Better to retire from riding wild griffins while I'm ahead and undefeated, right?" Following behind Lucas after having saved him twice before was perhaps not the smartest move, but it certainly ended up being spectacular.

"I like to think that when someone does something very showy and very ill-advised and yet get away with it unscathed," he continued, taking a drink from his mug, "It's the goddess' way of telling you that they're amused enough to give you a second chance, and it'd be disrespectful to the higher powers to squander it, right?" Sure, it was a stupid decision on his part, one that he'd try not to repeat, but he saw it as something to be laughed and joked about in hindsight, not held onto as a mark of shame.

"As for your question, Lucas," Fleuri shifted his topic of conversation, "No, I have no family in the city. Most of them live up in northern Thaln. I've met people from all over the country, but not too many of them here this time of year." Fleuri took another drink, feeling a bit homesick as he reminisced. He hadn't visited his family in a while, after all. Still, it could be worse...at least he still had his family, unlike some of the others at this table.

If he were a more uptight knight, Fleuri would be tempted to strike the Hundi for his uncouth words...but even during the most irresponsible part of his life there were some valuable life lessons to be learned, such as knowing when to loosen up.

Novak

"My name is Novak, and the fox is Ayumi, we're with Lady Mie's caravan," he replied to the dwarf, greeting her with a small bow. "I presume you and the Mothraki are the help that Haruno and her band managed to obtain."

Novak sat down by the fire pit next to Ayumi. After hiking through the snowfield, it felt good to warm himself by the fire. Between that and managing to avoid getting in trouble with the Krysa, it was of considerable relief to him. He still had an urgent task to take care of, but at least he had a bit of breathing room for now.

"I have a lot of questions for the two of you, but I can start by providing some answers," he spoke to the two women. "First, I know that I don't look the part of one of Mie's people. I originally wasn't- I was just some nobody that her caravan picked up, and she was gracious enough to allow me to earn a living working for her. She sent me to sneak out since I'm neither an Oni nor a Chagawa human, thus they have no reason to suspect that I'm with her."
With his introduction out of the way, he could move onto giving more important information to them.

"I presume Haruno already filled you in as to what our situation is. Nothing's changed since she left- we're still holding out, but our food is running low and we need to get this resolved one way or the other. However, I did manage to learn some rather interesting things on my way here. The Krysa woman you saw me with, Lady Marushka, is with the Office of Internal Peace. She's acting on direct orders from the Tsarita herself, hunting some "person of interest" in the snowfields. I also overheard a mention from her guards about the life of someone important being threatened. Sir something...Ost...no...Osh...Ozven, that's it. Sir Ozven, they said."

It was clear that they wouldn't be breaking the siege if this was all that Haruno could rally, but perhaps they could get to the bottom of what was going on. There was no getting around that they'd stick out like a sore thumb in this town, however.

"Now I've told you what I can, might you two fill me in on what's going on?" he asked. "How is Haruno doing? Did anyone else in her band make it to Dawn? Just who are the two of you? And are you all that she's been able to muster, or are there others?"

Perhaps he was asking too much at once, but these questions had been weighing on him for a while now.

@Rune_Alchemist@Crusader Lord

"There's a lot to tell," Ethelred begun. "First, the most pressing matter. While we were in Redwater Point, the town was attacked by Fomorians and Od vanished in the chaos. We believe those fiends must have abducted her while we were busy fighting." I wanted us to go after her but...we had a mission." With those last few words, a light, visible mist emanated from his helmet as he exhaled. He sought to remain stoic and professional to Sorcha, but it still upset him.

"As for the mission itself," Ethelred continued after taking a deep breath, "We encountered a group of Harzelslack soldiers led by a knight named Sir Lonan, who revealed to us that Elnith had been captured by them after she had battled the beast. It was at this point that our foe made itself known."

Ethelred glanced over each of the knights before returning his attention to Sorcha, briefly pausing before continuing his narration.

"It wasn't a Fomorian. It was a wyvern- a massive black wyvern, spouting fire from its mouth and holes all over its body. Intelligent, and capable of speaking. We fought it with Sir Lonan's help, and during the battle, Elias managed to temporarily incapacitate it, but he received a full blast of its power. All that remained of him was his sword. Clearly, it wasn't enough to keep him down, although at the time I believed him to be dead."

Ethelred wondered if Sorcha knew about this power that Elias possessed, to come back from being reduced to nothing.

"At this point Elias and I were separated, so I believe he can describe his side of what happened better than I could. For my part, Lonan directed me to the border fort where Elnith was being held. The man was too loyal to Harzelslack law to actually release her, but he was an honorable man who clearly wanted to help me in his own way. I managed to get Elnith out without raising a fuss, and during this, the fort was attacked by a group of ordinary wyverns. Suffice to say, they weren't in any position to object to her escape. Just as we managed to kill the smaller wyverns, Lonan shows up with Elias, naked as the day he was born, with the black wyvern in pursuit." Ethelred paused to let Sorcha take this part of the story in.

"The four of us attacked it, and finally managed to slay the creature. The Harzelslack forces kept the carcass, and Sir Lonan dropped the matter of Elnith."

Ethelred did not mention the elf that had aided them. Perhaps it was just because the detail didn't seem important, or perhaps it was his frustration with the elf's attitude towards him and his curse.

"As for the creature's motivation, it claimed to be the herald of a returned king, if I am remembering its words correctly. Elias may have heard more of it, he battled it longer than I did," he stated, glancing towards Reinhardt, expecting him to fill in the gaps.

Fleuri Jodeau

"Very well," Fleuri replied, as he fetched a training sword of approximately the length of Gerard's weapon. "I actually used a weapon of similar size as during my time as a squire, and occasionally in tournaments."

Fleuri started out by demonstrating some stances with the weapon.

"You already probably know this, but good stances and a good grip are key. You never want to find yourself losing your grip on your sword," he explained, thinking back to the battle when Lucas had dropped his weapon.

"A sword like this can be used with either one or two hands without too much difficulty. Since Sir Gerard does not use a shield, we'll focus on using two hands." Fleuri waited for Lucas to mirror his stance, then struck at his foe's sword with some of the basic attacks, both swinging and stabbing, that he knew of. He did not strike at the boy holding the sword, though- he didn't want to bruise Lucas up. Afterwards, he would beckon Lucas to do the same, to make a few blows at Fleuri's sword, which the older knight would try to block, deflect, or parry. Once this was over he'd go over the various attacks and counterattacks that he had demonstrated.

It wasn't knowledge that he thought he'd be using any time soon. He had no page or squire, and tended to favor larger blades for combat because they were more suited to dismembering undead and other tough foes. Still, the smaller swords were definitely formidable in the right hands, and many great knights had used him. Fleuri could hardly live up to those great bastions of heroism, but he'd do his best to impart some of what he did know to Lucas.

Fleuri would then go over over techniques such as half-swording, showing how one could increase leverage on the blade in this manner or even use the crossguard as a weapon. He'd also try to convey the capabilities and limitations of double-edged swords like the longsword, at one point fetching some actual swords to better demonstrate his point.

The sparring match had turned into more of an instruction, but Fleuri didn't mind. It was clear that Lucas had a lot to learn and would at this point be better served by instruction rather than beating on him with a wooden weapon. Of course, practice made perfect and the boy would definitely need to spar to get the hang of it, but one step at a time.

"I think that's enough for now," he concluded. "I'd suggest practicing what I showed you, and in the future we'll spar to try and get it committed to reflex."

Eventually, Lucas would probably have to seek out those more experienced with longswords than Fleuri, but he felt his proficiency should be adequate to get the boy started.

Novak

Novak was a little surprised when Lady Marushka took him by the arm, but it was certainly preferable to any other means that a Krysa state enforcer like her might lead him to the town. Fortunately, there was no trouble, and he caught a glimpse of Ayumi, the fox's brief appearance providing some assurance that she was unharmed. In Novak's mind, the fox had earned herself a snack for this- assuming, of course, she didn't simply take it when he isn't looking.

By the time they made it to the village, it had started to gently snow. Lady Marushka left, presumably to resume her state business and once they were gone, Ayumi returned, making her presence known by brushing against his leg. He had made it to civilization, and while he couldn't be sure of Lady Marushka's intentions for him, the fact that they hadn't arrested or tried to kill him bode well so far. Currently, it'd be a good idea to seek shelter before the temperature got colder or the snowfall picked up. He wasn't going to risk rousing suspicion by snooping around, but there was always the chance that he might overhear something.

Before he could decide on his next move, however, a white-haired Mothraki girl walked up to him. He suspected that she knew Ayumi and Mie when she offered a piece of meat to the fox; when she quickly and tightly closed her bag before the Ayumi had the chance to get into it, he became even more convinced of her familiarity with his companion. He didn't recognize her, however, so she was probably from someplace that Mie had already gone through before meeting Novak last year.

The Mothraki introduced herself as a recent arrival, and made it clear that she did indeed know Ayumi, and correctly guessed that if Novak was traveling with the fox, he must be part of the trade caravan, too. What was also quite important was that she mentioned that she had run into Haruno.

It looks like Haruno has found help. Once I figure out exactly what is going on, I can figure out my next move.

"Yes, let us find somewhere warmer, lead the way. We can discuss our mutual friends there," Novak replied, as he beckoned to Ayumi. The mention of Haruno, and clear familiarity with Ayumi was enough to make him let his guard down somewhat. He never discounted the possibility of trouble, but considering the circumstances, if she wished him ill will, all she really would need to do was alert the Krysa soldiers.

@Crusader Lord@Rune_Alchemist

This was it. Ethelred had been empowered by Lonan's magic, and at the same time the wyvern was left vulnerable and distracted by Elias' and Elnith's attacks. He had a narrow window to strike at the evil creature's chest and inflict a blow that will finish the fight.

It's now or never. Ethelred could not afford to let his allies down. He could not allow himself to fail. He could not allow the deaths of the innocent villagers do unpunished. Whomever this monster's lord was, be it an Unseelie, a Fomorian, or a true dragon, the knights would make it clear that Harzelslack and Airedale would not allow for these atrocities.

The Frozen Knight spoke no war cry, boisterous proclamation or clever one-liner as he charged in, just a nod to Sir Lonan in acknowledgement of the Harzelslack knight's plan. A trail of mist followed behind the knight, a telltale sign of the frigid temperature around him. Gripping his lance with both hands, he thrust the polearm into the mark on the wyvern's chest with every ounce of strength that he had, all the while evoking his freezing powers with every iota of willpower within him. He had to end this fight before the wyvern could recover or pull any other tricks.

Let the chill of death snuff out your fire forever, you wicked fiend!

Fleuri Jodeau

"No, not bad at all," Fleuri replied sincerely. After swallowing another bite out of the piece of poultry he continued. "We've obtained quite a story to tell out of it. Few knights can say they were ever astride a griffin."

There were things that Fleuri had done in his past that ashamed of, things that he looked upon with scorn for his past self. Their antics with the griffin was not one of them. He recognized it as a mistake and resolved to do better in the future, but it was something to be looked back upon and laughed at, not something to hold his head down in mortification upon recalling.

"With all of that said, I believe there is a time and place for theatrics, even in battle," Fleuri spoke. Just because we do not perform for the crowds anymore does not mean that we do not have audiences anymore. On a battlefield, our friends and allies alike compose our audience, and I believe the right action at the right time can serve to inspire, intimidate, or mislead."

Like Fleuri, Lucas was accustomed to demonstrating his skills in front of an audience. It was a common ground shared by two otherwise very different warriors, and Fleuri felt that it was a good way to establish an understanding with the younger knight.

"Of course, when the combat begins, that is when it is time to get serious." he advised. "But I am a believer that there is an unsurpassed aesthetic beauty in brutally effective, flawlessly performed, and well-timed combat techniques. Never be afraid to get practical or even unorthodox if that's what it takes to be the one who stands victorious."

Lucas had already demonstrated some of his circus skills, and Fleuri believed that they could prove quite useful as a knight, if applied in the right ways. After all, the Iron Rose had a history of warriors with unusual skills going back all the way to Ellione and her original knights.

After he and Lucas finished his meal, and the young knight inquired what he would do.

I suppose I will keep myself sharp, work in my plans to improve myself. If you wish, we could head to the practice yard and train together. I'd be glad to impart some sword techniques, if you'd be willing to show me the knife and dagger techniques you picked up in the circus." This was as good a time as any to assist in the rookie knight's training, and Fleuri was quite interested to see what Lucas could do with short blades.

Fleuri Jodeau

"I'm not sure," Fleuri answered, trying his best to recall the fight "It was all so chaotic that I didn't get a good chance to see who had what effect on it, aside from the fatal blow that Serenity inflicted upon it." It was only fitting that the person who handled the fight in the most sane and level-headed manner had the honor of the fatal blow.

"Truth be told I'd rather she had let it live- it was already subdued and injured," he lamented. "Griffins are majestic, noble creatures once you get past the whole horse-eating thing. There'd have been no point in trying to capture it, though- they're also immensely proud creatures that as we saw already, don't take well to being caged."

Fleuri would not have shared this sentiment with the other knights- after that foolhardy stunt he pulled, they'd probably dismiss him as being mad and his actions counterproductive to the fight. But Lucas had been gripped by the same madness, and it was for that reason he was comfortable talking openly about it.

"Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking, jumping on its back like that," he said, taking a bite from, fittingly, a cooked bird's wing. "I was nearly crushed, burned, and could very well have simply missed and hit the ground hard enough to break my bones. It's a miracle I got out of it unharmed." He would not disparage Lucas, but he wanted to convey his concerns with his own actions.
