Current I think I'm Advanced+ level and could do that. But under Adv, I feel compelled to write a certain way and it makes writing feel more like a chore even if it's just in my head. Thus, I prefer Casual

Many people equate "Advanced" to "Big, high effort posts with lots of flowery language." It's a habitual thought I struggle to shake as an RPer with 20+ years of writing experience. It's very draining

As a Trickster, Skobeloff probably already has several of those xP

Hey, this time, it's actually legal tender, which doesn't apply to any others he may have~ xP

Shieldwing... sees trees of green and red roses too.
And he thinks to himself
"What a wonderful-"
Kidding, but basically yeah. Nothing about the forest really stands out to him.

Also, remember that every missed roll gives you one point of experience

Yup yup, already marked this time~

But now that he's not getting anything himself, he's going to look to Rudrick instead and examine him a bit more closely. Would he be able to Study Rudrick as they go to try to get an answer to a question like "What kind of thing might have him so on edge? What does he seem to be focused on right now?"
Random idea, but since it's the season...

If our characters in this game participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange, who would your character gift to, and what would the gift be?

Given that one of us has done Fell and the other Star, I suppose that just leaves Skobe for Shieldwing since he's not gonna give something to himself xP

Given that these two are probably the ones who are the least close to each other in the party, I get the feeling that Shieldwing would find this very difficult. In the end, though, I think he would settle on a custom-made ticket or coupon.... One "Get out of Trouble Free" card. Shieldwing has no doubt that the knowledge that he has this will let Skobe have a lot of fun making use of it. xP

I imagine the two probably have a history of Skobe doing stuff that frustrates, annoys and otherwise gets Shieldwing angry given his seriousness and inability to take jokes in an effort to be taken seriously. When presented to him, Shieldwing cannot be angry at whatever big prank, joke or whatever else at his expense that Shieldwing is angry about and must instantly forgive Skobe~ xP

If Shieldwing wishes to, he can roll to Survey the Area. However, if there is another move he wishes to do in this moment, he can do that instead.

Yeah, there's a few things he can try to do, but first he'd want to try to figure things out on his own. He can tell something is bothering Rudrick and tries to Survey to figure it out...but on a 6, I'm not sure he's getting much help there~

On a side note, I find it funny that I've rolled three moves so far: One of them was an 11 total (6+5)...and then BOTH of the others were not just a 6...but a 6 from rolling a 1 and a 5 xD
Aaliyah unfortunately doesn't have any tool proficiencies to make something for Mariel. But knowledge and research is her area of expertise. If there was something Mariel was looking for or needed to know, Aaliyah would probably do the research for her and write it down as a report.

...As a back up gift to go with that report, Aaliyah would probably try to purchase what Mariel might have eyed in the marketplace (with Bruno's help in observations), or tools needed that would go with that report. ^^"

Hey, Tanrith's always taking commissions~ xP

And even though he doesn't know Aaliyah that much yet, you will still get his Friend Discount of 100% off~ xP

"Eh...not that it'd be a good idea to have me make something for her nanyway. It's kinda important that the end result of your gift comes from you, right? And she also gets my Friend Discount, so there's nothing special there.... But hey, you can still make something yourself anyway if you want! If you ask me, it's not the quality that matters...." Tanrith pauses for a second. "...I mean, unless it's something where the quality is actually important to its functionality. Like you wouldn't want to give a fighter a sword that breaks after a few swings or a shield that can't stop arrows. I mean, unless it was, like...part of their training to dodge instead of relying on a shield so much, but that seems kinda pointless. I mean, some people just don't dodge as well as others, y'know? ...Wait. What were we talking about again...?"

Hm.... Secret Santa exchanges are usually done by distributing names pseudo-randomly, right? To ensure everybody gets gifts from one person each? If he got a choice, Tanrith could only really pick Raella since she's the only one he knows anything about xD

But rolling a 1d8, getting a 6 and going by the list of names in the CHAR tab, Tanrith gets Zaraknvyr's name. What he does is probably the same whether he knows Zaraknvyr's a dhampir or thinks he's just a normal drow~ Shifting his tool choice from Cook's Utensils to Painter's Supplies, he would personally slave away at painting again and again until he got a nice, beautiful landscape painting of an all-natural sea shore that he was satisfied with.

"He's...got something going on in his head. Some kind of...internal conflict I can't see. My time with the Sensates helps me pick up on stuff like this better. So he's probably struggling to find a way to just relax and take his mind off of things. Now, if things start getting hard for him, he can just take a nice, long look at something beautiful that you can't really find here in the Outlands. It's no substitute for the real sight, but...if it makes me happy and helps calm my mind, I thought, y'know...maybe it'd help him find some happiness too."
Saur

As the group made their way through the hall, Saur couldn't help but notice how quiet it was. Even with his tuned senses, he wasn't picking up much activity. Strange, all things considered. Did everybody leave work behind already...? Bah, hell of a time for there to be nobody around; Teacher Ot was missing and nobody but them likely even realized it. Or maybe it was that Teacher Ot was missing now because there was nobody around...? Well regardless, judging from the blood in the watery trail, he didn't have time to concern himself. The wounds that had been inflicted clearly hadn't been properly tended to. He exchanged a concerned glance with Fleur, nodding subtly before returning his focus to their surroundings.

"What the hell is this?" Saur suddenly muttered aloud as they finally arrive at what seemed to be their destination. He stopped before the large, elaborate door, his gaze soon drifting to the mirrored clock on the opposite side. He took in all of the details he could in this initial glance, but the only thing he could pick up for sure was that this was no ordinary door.

"Why the hell does this door have so many pictures on it?" he muttered, quickly stepping forward to examine the door closer up. It was at this point that he finally clocked the gears inlaid into the center of the door. Some kind of mechanism; no doubt a lock of some kind. Though as he studied it, he couldn't find what he could describe as a keyhole or anything. "Well, whatever the case, it seems that whoever we're tracking knew how to open it. Look." With that, he gestured at the trail. "The trail stops here. Or more accurately, it goes in."
Saur

"All the more reason to find him as swiftly as possible, then," Saur agreed with a nod of his head, moving to Fleur's side. He glanced up at her for a moment as he passed her by, recalling their brief squabble this morning at Alandri's.... However, now was not the time to bring it up. Nothing should be distracting them from ensuring that whatever was going on was stopped as soon as possible. The torrent of water Fleur mentioned caused him some concern. If it wasn't Teacher Ot who left this behind, and it likely wasn't another staff member due to how wrong the interpretations seemed to be, unless there were staff even less inclined to the magical arts than he was as a brand new student....

"A student," Saur concluded aloud as he approached the watery trail. He crouched down to the trail, kneeling beside it and eyeing it for a moment. "Whoever this was, there's a strong chance that our culprit's a student. And more than one, judging from this trail. I can't tell the number; water trails don't leave that kind of detailed information behind. But it had to be people who belong here or they would've drawn too much attention, and like I said before, I find it hard to believe a staff member would reach such incorrect conclusions about that rune. Not impossible of course, but...."

His eyes narrowed. What would a student be doing studying a rune that seemed to exclusively be used to summon a torrent of water? It was a magic school, so studying the rune itself wasn't out of the ordinary. It could also just have been something a student was asking about with Teacher Ot. But the fact that water was covering the floor combined with the water rune...? There were a number of possibilities. It could have even simply been a prank gone awry or something. He himself had tended to the wounds of guards because of a poorly executed joke before. But still, something inside him was roaring at him, telling him that there something worse going on in the background....

"Regardless, I concur with Fleur," Saur added, rising back to his feet again. "But I would recommend you all keep your wits about you and keep your guard up around any students that aren't in this group. I do not believe we will be attacked, but making assumptions is how someone gets snatched."

With that, he turned around and, if nobody else had anything further to look at or add, he would make begin following the trail in search of its source.
<Snipped quote by Digizel>

If you'd like to take a closer look at the footprints give me a Perception check to see if Saur can decipher how many may have left the trail. Regardless of whether or not Saur can decipher how many traveled this way, the tracks and direction of the trail are obvious now to everyone in the party.

Hm, with a 5 on the die that gets me a 13 total. Just a water trail, so it's probably harder to check for those kinds of details I suppose~
Ahh...I see, I see. This is starting to make some kind of sense now. I appreciate what you're going for there~ I suppose questioning back and forth with you is probably how I'm supposed to figure out what might be applicable. Since I suppose I'm aware that fey and druid magic could be nature focused, I might be able to come down to being able to use nature with a bit of dialogue and ask if that's applicable.

If that's how the module structured this part, I think the reason it says to let them make those specific checks is because a character with the relevant skills would be able to recognize that it's a certain kind of magic by default, with the DC just being whether or not they can successfully decipher it. But I'm fine with this as well, I think. It just takes a bit more thought and effort xD

No problem, you're all good. Makes me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one trying to figure things out xD

But while I've got your attention Wolf, I do have a quick question regarding the game. When it comes to the footprints we're beginning to follow, is there only one set? Or does it seem like more than one person walked out of the office? And if so, could Saur try to figure out how many there might have been, or if they might've been dragging something or someone? Usually stuff like that leaves different kinds of trails, but I'll leave it to you~

Oh yeah ALSO, a reminder to the group as you guys post: Saur turned over the sheet he found to the group to see if they might be able to figure out what its purpose is. Idk if the module allows for more than what Saur picked up on, but it might not hurt to roll them Arcana bones if allowed.
Saur

Saur smiled and nodded at Starfinger. "Indeed. It might be good to make sure everybody can take care of themselves in an emergency." He paused for a moment before raising a claw and putting it on the frog's shoulder. "And don't worry. This...Taldane is different for me as well. Expressions are...difficult." His gaze then drifted up to his companions, taking note that Fleur seemed to already be diving into taking a look around the office like he should be.

"But for now, let's focus on figuring out what happened here...and where Teacher Ot went." With another pat on Starfinger's shoulder, he once more shook off the wounds on his back and got to work.

Saur was not an investigator, and he never believed himself to be the most intelligent around. But if there was one thing he was proud of more than anything else, it was how attuned he was to his surroundings at all times; his powers of observation were as sharply hewn as his arrowheads. It didn't take the most observant person to notice that there had been some kind of struggle in the room. The shattered glass and bloody water were obvious clues to that regard. But from his unique position behind the desk, something caught his eye. A pile of papers that seemed off on their own. Despite everything else having been strewn about haphazardly, these were strangely collected. It could have just ended up that way randomly of course, but still, he found it suspicious....

The Kobold approached the pile and gingerly lifted them off of the wet floor and into his claws. He felt the tip of one of his claws tear a small hole into a wet corner and quickly decided to lay them out on the table in front of him to avoid doing any further damage. Then, he carefully began to sift through the papers. Finally, he found what was so important about them. Pictured was some kind of rune, with many notes scribbled around it, seemingly to analyze what its purpose might be. He frowned as he inspected it and read through it. But...something was off.

This wasn't right.

Whoever had been analyzing the rune had made some strange assumptions or something, because the analysis was off. He wasn't particularly talented with magic, but he could tell that the rune was definitely to produce some kind of nature-oriented conjuration magic. He had no clue. But he could see one thing for certain.

Finally, Fleur spoke up and brought his attention up from the papers he was reading.

"Ah, judging from the broken strap, seems like we can pretty much say for sure our mystery attacker was humanoid at least; unless Teacher Ot was in the habit of wearing masks in the privacy of his office. They were probably trying to conceal their face from Teacher Ot or other potential witnesses when they did it. An excellent find that tells us a lot," Saur commented with a nod. "And I think I found something too."

With that, he turned the sheet of paper he had found over toward the others. "I think you're all better versed in the ways of magic than I am. Maybe you can figure out exactly what this is. All I can tell is that it's some kind of nature magic, conjuration probably. My current guess is that it could be either druidic or fey in nature. And whoever was trying to figure this out made some errors at the top that led to all kinds of false conclusions. Their notes are basically useless. So unless a teacher in a school of magic isn't very good at understanding magic, it's hard to believe this belongs to Teacher Ot."

Once he had turned the paper over toward the others, he turned his attention to the prints that Fleur had pointed out before. "No matter what though, Fleur is correct. We should get moving and follow the trail before it joins the stone."
@Digizel Sorry about that. I ought to have phrased that differently; something like 'would Saur like to investigate the pile of papers'? Then you could have told me which skill Saur would have liked to use to Investigate with and I could roll Recall Knowledge with that skill.

See, that's what I thought too at first, but here's the problem I ran into with that, though: From my perspective, I just know that there are papers here and they're probably important since the DM is bringing my attention to them specifically. I didn't have info on what's on them or anything. I didn't have any way of knowing what skill could possibly be applicable since I didn't know what was on them or anything. Didn't really have a reason to even think Nature was even remotely applicable to it, as far as I can tell? So I wouldn't have had any idea what to put forward what to try. And even if I did know it was a rune, I'm not sure I'd have ever been able to figure out that anything other than Arcana would've worked.

In fact, if you didn't tell me to do a separate Investigation roll, I wouldn't have even considered Recall Knowledge being applicable at all. So I just kind of assumed that you'd just pick it out for me and tell me what I got if I was successful. Hence why I just dropped all my numbers for you.

So out of curiosity, since the decision's been made already, am I just doing a dumb and missing something there? It wouldn't surprise me, honestly; I do have a bad habit of overcomplicating things xD

As a result of a separate, secret roll:

Saur sifts through the piles of papers and debris and finds a small sheet of paper among them. The paper is marked with a strange rune and several notes analyzing various aspects of the rune in the margins. Using Saur's knowledge of nature, he is able to recall that this rune is related to conjuration magic and that the analysis of this rune is actually incorrect and led to false conclusions on the part of whomever penned the analysis in the margins. At this point, that's all Saur can divine from the small sheet.

Sounds good then! I'll have my response up shortly then. I'd like to have it done before I go to bed, but if not, it'll be done tomorrow for sure~
