Erm... it's not too late to join, right? And if I'm going to join, would it be okay to do so with a character that's from an entirely new 'chunk'? One that has nothing to do with the three-letter horror show, save for it being a TV show in said chunk?

I dare you to make an Equestria Girls character. Double dog dare you. <_<
Astral Gleam

@Rune_Alchemist

The sound of a... voice of some kind stopped the Unicorn from advancing any further. Of course, if it was a vessel then that naturally meant it had passengers. Why didn't that occur to him before now? Maybe his eagerness got the better of him? Either way, Astral Gleam looked up at the... creature that produced the voice. Unfortunately, Astral didn't understand a word of it. Visitors from another world, after all, so a language barrier was only natural. But how to get around that? Some kind of communication needed to be established otherwise the contact could lead to some form of violence. The Unicorn's eyes brightened up as an idea came to mind. Suddenly a peculiar book floated out of the Pony's pack and its pages seemed to turn themselves in front of his face. The book itself was adorned with gilded edges and had arcane symbols inscribed on the cover. Most Ponies wouldn't recognize it unless they regularly studied magical runes.

Then, with a bit of caution Astral looked directly at the visitor in the hopes of making direct eye contact. It was only then that he noticed that the creature was bipedal and... didn't appear to have a mouth, or at least one that was visible in this darkness due to dark colored skin. A flash came from the Unicorn's horn, it glowing with an arcane light that matched the sky blue color of the nebula image visible on his flank. And then, images appeared directly over the Unicorn's head. They were were a short series of pictures, depicting the Unicorn himself and the visitor addressing him. In the first... panel - for lack of a better word - the two were staring at each other and had speech bubbles as if they were conversing. However, there was a red crossmark overlaying it, symbolizing their inability to understand each other. In the second panel, the Unicorn was depicted casting another spell. In the third, an arcane circle appeared under the Pony's and visitor's feet, once again they possessed speech bubbles. But unlike the first panel, in this one there was a green check mark overlaying the image, hopefully symbolizing their newfound ability to communicate. Astral had to hope the simple message conveyed by his projection spell was understood, because in the next moment he cast a new spell from his spell book that summoned the very arcane circle at his feet. If the message got through, the visitor would enter the circle.

"Ahem..." Astral cleared his throat, "...this circle is an Arcane Language Field. Anyone who stands within its radius should be able to transcend language and understand one another. Do you... understand me now?"

The Unicorn galloped as fast as his four legs would carry him. After a few moments he actually began teleporting in small bursts. The spell was advanced, and not many Unicorns could use it easily especially over longer distances. But using it in shorter spurts like this wasn't nearly as difficult or taxing, and it let Astral Gleam cover more distance in a shorter time. He'd already chosen his destination early on. One of the object's trajectory took in the direction of the Castle of the Two Sisters. As that was one of the only real landmarks in the Everfree Forest, that made it the easiest to get to without getting lost or turned around.

Just about there.

Astral could make out the ruins of the Castle in the distance. Wouldn't be long now before he made it there. He slowed briefly when he felt a rumbling coming from the direction of the Castle, but his pause was only momentary. Nothing would stop Astral from studying these falling objects, whatever they were. Nopony ever got anywhere without at least taking some risks and this was no different. In moments the Crystal Unicorn came bursting into the front courtyard of the castle with one last short range teleport for good measure. He didn't register the presence of the Zebra or other creature at first. Rather, he was fixated on the crashed... vessel? The strange shape was absolutely nothing like anything he'd ever seen... nor was expecting.

"A... ship? I was expecting a meteorite of some kind, but a vessel? This is far bigger than I could have possibly imagined. And it looks like I beat the Shadowbolts here to boot. Perfect!" still not registering the presence of the other two, Astral approached the crashed object to look at it more closely. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that he would have been a fool to pass up. Still, he approached slowly. Astral Gleam was curious, but he certainly wasn't stupid.
This was the very definition of being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Takatora wasn't particularly keen on hanging out with the Meijin, something about him still rubbed him the wrong way. But it looked like it was either that or stay around in the lobby where some people were still staring at him and others still were whispering in hushed tones. Eventually he rubbed his temples and sighed in some form of defeat. If it meant getting away from the stares, then he'd just have to put up with the Meijin for today.

"Damn it Adam, this is all your fault..." he muttered. Part of him wished Adam hadn't shown up the other day. Sure, it meant Masato would have finished him off but at least Takatora wouldn't be getting all this unwanted attention from random strangers, "Ugh, just... let's get this over with." he grumbled, after a moment vanishing to enter his suit. Whatever it was the Meijin was planning, he hoped it wouldn't take too long. He still had a thing he was supposed to do with Sento later after all.
Alright, finally posted. Forgive me if I took any liberties regarding canon characters.
Astral Gleam

"...Finally." the Crystal Unicorn muttered with a huff of his breath. He finally had some alone time for the first time since he arrived in Ponyville earlier that morning. All day long it was just touring Ponyville, then touring the Princess's castle, followed by a tour of her school. And that was only the start of it. There were still the lectures themselves. Some of them went smoothly, others... didn't. For the ones that didn't, Astral was bombarded with question after question, sometimes he could swear they had nothing at all to do with the lesson. And if that weren't enough, the pink one insisted on throwing him a welcoming party at the end of the day. Sweet Celestia if he had to hear anymore of Pinkie Pie's annoying ramblings, or of Rarity's boutiques, or worst of all Spike's continued reminders of who it was that saved the Crystal Empire and the Equestria Games, then Astral Gleam would go absolutely insane. That's it! That had to be why Sunburst put him up to this! He knew this would turn into Astral Gleam's personal Hell and wanted to watch him squirm!

"Thank Luna today is finally over with..." he said with an exasperated sigh. Of course, this was only day one. He was stuck here for the rest of the week and something told him it was all going to start over again in the morning, "...well at least I still have the stars." he used his magic to open his balcony window, the window itself briefly gaining a sky blue aura magic that matched the Unicorn's eye color and Cutie Mark color. It opened and Astral Gleam's hooves clicked on the marble floor of the balcony as he stepped outside. He was using his magic to carry a handheld telescope behind him and then proceeded to use it to admire the night sky. The view felt... different somehow. Logically speaking the change of location shouldn't have that strongly of an effect one's view of the stars, unless of course they moved half way around the planet. But Ponyville was no where that great a distance away from the Crystal Empire, so the night sky should by all accounts look relatively the same. Perhaps there actually was some kind of magic behind it? Ponies in his field were still debating whether the stars were a result of magic or a more natural phenomenon. And for the record, Astral Gleam was in the latter camp. In his rather astute opinion, if there were any magic behind the stars then surely the Princesses would have known about it and told them by now.

For a moment he looked down at the small town surrounding the castle. Princess Twilight had insisted that Astral stay there as her guest. Sure, the Castle was glittery enough, but in his mind nothing would ever top the sheer beauty of the Crystal Empire. Some ponies could swear that the crystal structures could sometimes practically glow under the moonlight. Not that Astral was biased, of course... even though he totally was. Still, that gaze was only momentary, as the unicorn's true interest was in the night sky. Or rather, in what lay beyond it. He may have been visiting Ponyville to give history lectures, but Astral Gleam's true field was astronomy. Watching the night sky, studying it for endless hours in the hopes of figuring out exactly what makes it all tick. But for this Unicorn, it went beyond that. He was convinced there was even more out there, beyond what any naked eye or Telescope could see. The biggest mystery of all... the ultimate puzzle just waiting for a brilliant mind like Astral's to solve it.

"What the devil is that?" Astral exclaimed aloud when he spotted multiple objects literally falling out of the sky in what could honestly be described as a blaze of glory. Almost all them impacted in the Everfree Forest, and when they did the sheer explosive boom could practically be felt all the way back in Ponyville. Any pony who was asleep was almost certainly awake now. But Astral didn't have time to waste. He grabbed a couple of notebooks with his magic, also still levitating telescope with them, "No time, I've got to get to the nearest crash site before somepony messes it all up!" he was practically in a full gallop by the time he was outside the castle and on his way in the direction of the nearest impact site. Briefly, however, he stopped and looked up at the sky again with his telescope.

"Of course... they would be showing up wouldn't they?" the Shadowbolts. Some would call them the "real" elite flying team of Equestria. Sure, the Wonderbolts had flair and style. But the Shadowbolts were easily more efficient, prioritizing functionality over entertainment. Of course, an incident like this occurring at night would naturally warrant their attention. Well, that just meant Astral had to hurry even faster. He had to try and get to at least one of the sites before the Shadowbolts could start throwing around red tape all over the place. And even if they did, well, it was a good thing Astral Gleam always carried his credentials. A flash of those was always enough to prove his certification in his field and allow him access to the objects for study. It wasn't long before the Shadowbolts almost instantly cleared the skies around the forest. There would be no moving about them spotting the Unicorn, especially considering his more crystallized coat.

"Ha!" Astral almost laughed to himself as he resumed his gallop into the Everfree Forest, "Sorry Sunburst, but it looks like the joke is officially on you now!" since he was already here so close to the sites, chances were very good that he would get to be among the first to really study objects up close. Meanwhile everypony else would running in a desperate attempt to catch up. But alas, Astral's head start all but assured his success. Of course, then Astral almost swore under his breath when he realized something, "Oh great, I just realized I'm going have to actually thank the bastard for this opportunity! Always a catch to these things... always."
I'm kind of noticing that most of the activity seems to take place while I'm at work (at work right now on my lunch break) and that makes me question my ability to keep up with this.
Well, I'm in a challenging starting position. The Crystal Empire is a long way from Everfree Forest. Then again, there might be a way if this is taking place as far ahead as Season 8.

I like to imagine Astral Gleam knows Sunburst. Not as a friend really, more like a... professional acquaintance. They're both academics and both live in the Crystal Empire, it's possible they've met professionally a couple of times. And then there's Twilight's School, what if Astral Gleam were visiting it as a Guest Professor, probably to give a few lectures about the history of the Crystal Empire (a pony who has actually lived through some of it would be rather qualified for such a job), and he was essentially invited on Sunburst's recommendation? Sunburst could have also had an ulterior motive, sending him to Twilight's School hoping it would inspire him to make a few attitude adjustments (Astral is still known for being a bit of a cynical prick after all). But it's while staying in Ponyville that he spots the crashing ships that night through his handheld telescope and this gives him adequate means to be near the plot as it begins.
In my opinion, we should have Equestria Girls be non-canon for this, as I feel it would be less impactful for the ponies if they had already seen humans before. It would go from "oh crap, space aliens", to "oh look, its those beings from that mirror world".

Does it really need to be non-canon for the contact to be impactful, though? Humans or not, they still came from friggin space in spaceships after all. I would think that would be enough. Even so, it's also entirely possible that Twilight isn't going around telling everyone about the mirror world. Sure the main cast obviously knows, but Average Joe Earth Pony in Manehatten or Average Jane Do Pegasus in Cloudsdale probably haven't heard about any of the Canterlot High adventures so... blarg.
If you take Equestria Girls into consideration, there may be even less of a language barrier than you might think. That, of course, is assuming you're considering those movies to be canon. I do, personally, because at no point do they ever contradict the show. But I also know there are plenty people who vehemently consider them to be purely spin offs that aren't canon. I will say in defense of the EG movies that Shadow Play does explicitly have a scene of Starswirl banishing three very familiar looking Sirens (obviously the Dazzlings from the second movie) so... grain of salt?
