Appearance: A lanky-looking young man looking quite fragile. Pale skin that could be mistaken for a ghost or a corpse. Standing around 5’5 and weighing around 140 pounds, he usually hides his body in his heavy-looking clothing. He has dark brown hair and blue eyes, long and curly, reaching past his ears, and he has high cheekbones and deep bags around his eyes. Something noticeable about him as well is how rough his hands are.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Specialty: Artifice
Any Unique Spell: Helmut has a specialty spell that allows him to control and manipulate toys and dolls. He can manipulate any toy but not any other inanimate object. Helmut also created toys that he made to be used as weapons. These toys are hazardous and, unfortunately, could be confused for an average toy. Of course, they only attack when Helmut gives the command, so for the most part, they look like regular toys. The weapons and toys are very deadly and can cause immense damage.
Non-Magical Skills: Helmut is a talented toy/doll maker who can create any toy from most materials. He is also a skilled painter, usually creating strange and somewhat controversial art pieces.
Misc. Weaknesses: He is not very strong so that he wouldn’t be perfect in a fight. He also has entomophobia.
Background
Major: Art
Backstory: Helmut’s family is a long line of toymakers and wizards. They were initially living in Siegen. They were using a particular spell that would give the toy’s life. This, of course, caused his family to be attacked by the villagers. They were moving from town to town while making money from creating toys. This caused his family only to use their kind of magic to defend themselves if threatened. Some of his family members would use their magic to send the toys to attack and even kill the family’s enemies. However, for the most part, they were seen as harmless toymakers.
During WW2, his family used their magic to help spy on the Nazis and to kill high-ranking officers. After the war, they moved to America, where they became famous for their unique and beautiful toys. His grandfather Peter started a company called Puppenmacher. This company became famous, almost rivalling Mattel, Parker Brothers, and Hasbro.
At a young age, Helmut was antisocial and would rather hang out with his toys. The one thing he was good at was drawing and painting. As a child, he took lessons from his uncle, an art teacher. His grandfather taught him how to create toys and use the spells to bring toys to life. He gained some other artist friends in high school and gained some fame for his art. He went to Arizona State to further his studies as an artist, using his toymaking skills as part of his art.
Name: Ava Sterling Nationality: American Sex: Female Age: 19 Appearance:
Strengths and Weaknesses
Specialty: Artifice Any Unique Spell: Mammicus Enlargicus - the spell that got Ava kicked out of Delta Iota Kappa. As a self-proclaimed 'master of orbs' Ava didn't limit herself to just the ones she used to juggle. Figuring one day that breasts were basically orbs, why not try them too? As such she can manipulate (but almost always chooses to increase) the size of the breasts of any person she sees. This serves no purpose other than her own enjoyment. Non-Magical Skills: Contact juggling, League of Legends (Challenger, rank 13), Melee, drinking, improving work, multilingual (English, German, Korean[limited]) Misc. Weaknesses: Attending class (see: League of Legends), friends
Background:
Major: Marketing Backstory: Ava Sterling is one of many kids with no real hometown owing to her father's service in the military causing them move frequently, with several postings overseas like Germany and Korea. This made her turn to more solitary hobbies like gaming, as developing a new friend circle every year just to lose it over the summer quickly grew tiresome.
Over one of these summers, her magical gifts began to manifest. Without anyone else to practice with, she learned as best she could on her own by incorporating her own hobbies into it. She found it easier to focus magic through the crystal spheres she used for contact juggling than trying to manipulate it freehand. As such, it's incredibly rare to ever see her without at least one of them somewhere on her person.
She originally was in Delta Iota Kappa, but due to an incident involving breast enlargement and the (possibly willing) girlfriend of the (definitely not willing) fraternity president, she was kicked out. Afterwards, she joined Phi Mu Lambda.
I will accept this... against my better judgement :P
Name: Harper Thane Nationality: British (English) Sex: Female Age: 20 Appearance: 5'4'', bit of a tan. Dark eyes and hair and black hair.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Speciality: Illusion Any Unique Spell: Sonic Shift - Harper can create a sonic illusion that will make a person sound like someone else. If she's concentrating hard she can also make other similar-sounding objects sound like each other, e.g make a moped engine sound like an 5.3L V8, or a songbord sound like a hawk. If she screws it up, the illusion is likely to sound like white noise. Non-Magical Skills: Good at mimicking other people's mannerisms. Also good at snooping around. Has a surprising knowledge of birds, bats and other things that fly around. Sporty, fit and coordinated - plays soccer and is a well above average midfielder. Misc. Weaknesses: Phobia of things that live in the water (such as fish and whales).
Background:
Major: History Backstory: Harper Thane is currently a sophomore at Arizona State. She comes from an old and respectable English magic family who have lived in and around the village of Steyning, in West Sussex, for generations. Harper's father Matthew, is relatively Senior in the Magic Inspectorate, which initially led to people treating her with a degree of suspicion, though that was quickly dispelled in her freshman year when it became clear she was more than willing to share information she received from 'Daddy' to help keep the other boys and girls from Phi Mu Lambda out of trouble... plus her skill at mimicking both appearances AND voices, makes her rather good at confusing administrative staff, 'keeping a lid on things' and purchasing alcohol.
By all accounts, Harper was originally in Delta Iota Kappa and promptly got kicked out for something within a week of joining. She doesn't talk about it, but it's a reasonable guess (given her personality) to say she got caught trying to impersonate someone else in the frat (at Phi Mu Lambda, nobody really cares).
Harper likes to drink and loves people, and being the centre of attention though she also thrives on her reputation of being the one who can fix things and will (usually) hold back a bit during debauched parties, just in case something goes horribly awry. They often do when there are inebriated wizards around.
Unlike some of the others in the fraternity, Harper isn't holding down a job. She is probably being supported by her family... or blackmailing someone. Either seems plausible.
I'd be intersted in joining this roleplay; I was just wondering If something like Necromancy would be forbidden or taboo to practice. Some other ideas I had for unique spells were blood magic or being able to speak to ghosts.
I would imagine this wizarding world is pretty liberal about stuff like talking to ghosts. They mostly get stressed about things that overtly expose them to the outside world...
I'd suggest not going with blood magic as we have a simple magic system and that would probably involve coming up with a whole new one. That being said, I've deliberately left things pretty broad to allow for creativity. If it's a world ending spell I might ask tou to tone it down a bit, otherwise I'm pretty much open to anything.
Name: Steven (Steve) Hammersmith Nationality: American Sex: Male Age: 19 Appearance: 6'1'', fairly pale with dark hair and a small goatee. Dark eyes and quite muscular
Strengths and Weaknesses
Speciality: Defence Any Unique Spell: Electric charge - Steve can send a bolt of electricity shooting from his wand. This can, potentially, be used to hurt people, but it also can be used to make electrical items work, like his amp. Screwing this one up can lead to electrical equipment exploding, accidental fires and electrocution. Non-Magical Skills: Can play the bass guitar better than most and has decent stage presence. Is also quite strong and goes to a boxing gymn where he has learned (no surprises for guessing this one) how to box. Also knows how to do stage magic reasonably well. Misc. Weaknesses: Smokes. A lot. Also lazy (Cs get degrees).
Background:
Major: English Literature Backstory: Steven Hammersmith, or Steve as everyone calls him, is originally from a well-to-do wizarding family in New York who (probably) used some kind of magic to manipulate the stock market, though nobody can prove it for sure. As such, Steve had the best education money could buy and the very finest of magical tutors to teach him how to master the arcane arts. Which he did, though without any particular passion. Steve was very much going through the motions.
Until he discovered 'Lordi' and the fact that both his parents, and most of his class mates hated 'Lordi'. Partly out of spite, partly out of a desire to claim his own image and partly out of a genuine love of the genre, Steve immersed himself in heavy metal. Picking up the guitar briefly before switching to the bass.
His grades slipped but Steve still managed to get through High School with good enough grades to get into Arizona State (after first taking a year to 'discover himself' in the Netherlands) and while his parents were deeply frustrated he insisted on doing English literature rather than Finance, continued to pay for Steve's education though they cut off his allowance, assuming this would bring him back into line.
Much to their irritation, Steve got a couple of recurring gigs with a metal band called 'Murderboss' and as a stage magician, using actual magic to impress small children who assume it is all an illusion.
Usually, Steve keeps his wand inside the neck of his base, which is great when you are trying to make lightning shoot out of it and pretend it's pyrotechnics.
Steve is in Phi Mu Lambda because joining required minimum effort.
