"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

If we had like buttons, I'd be liking that so hard.
I'm not opposed to that either (that tecnically means less work), so if either of us find an extra person, the more the merrier. Oh god, I get reminders, but virtual stalkerism is definitely on a whole other level. I'm a lot more casual, I think. Roleplaying is a hobby, and if you don't get around to writing, then you simply don't get around it and the world moves on.

Well I will agree with you, the visual aesthetics of steam punk are definitely there. Steam, copper, iron... I'll defnintly have to research more into it, but I like trying a new kind of genre. It forces me to think outside the box, that's what this is all about. :p

With all my novel-length CSes, that wont be a problem. And that may not be necessarily true, authors write all their characters all the time, and there's still diversity and complexity. Hehe, I'm sure we'll be able create lots of different flaws and developments.

Nice post! I did notice the slice of life going on, it's such a good way to show contrast as the story progresses to darker and more intense themes. I agree with your vision, and I look forward to that first post.

I can work on some CSes, but I fear I may not be able to put too much in them yet, just from limited knowledge. Gosh, I really should watch that movie...
If you're curious, I have the interest thread up. Hopefully we'll get some submissions soon. EVA: Recruiting

I have posted! Glad to see this is still being kept alive. It was a good roleplay.

Oh sweet, that was fast.~ Hehe, I'm glad too.
The Story So Far:

The Vygorns have been there from the start. Ever since they saw the potential in the human race, they've been there, controlling everyone. Their only goal was simple. Total destruction of nature. They started their plan immediately by manipulating people. The destruction of nature began. Only slowly at first, with axes, shovels and pickaxes. But later at a much more worrying rate.

Now cities were just huge human dwellings where everyone was squashed together, living in the shadows of the rich who needed nothing and never stepped out of their homes. Outside the cities, the land was a huge sea of trash. The planet was dotted with huge mining facilities and water pumps. There's nothing left. Or at least, almost nothing.

In a place below the heaps of trash, there was a cave lit by huge glowing mushrooms, infinitely-burning fires, crystal clear streams... Nature's Haven. From that place Nature collected the last drops of its strength, only leaving enough to survive, and infused the youth with one of its base powers. That day, the Elementals were born!!

However, the young Elementals overestimated their powers, and in a terrible turn of events almost all of them were brutally shellacked in a showdown with the aliens. A bare handful made it back to the Haven, only to find it dead and dry like the rest of the world.

Helpless, they waited. Kyra's sent out the call again, blessing those who would listen. In Her great will to live, she has bestowed elemental gifts and given the dreams of Nature's Haven -- a lush place filled with power, as it was at it's prime, and now, weak and withered away.

It's now or never, this is their last chance to save the world from the endless void.

Will you listen to Kyra's summons?

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to read this. EVA (Elementals: Void Assault) is looking for some new players to help continue the narrative we've built so far. If you're looking for rewarding player interaction, points of high action, and elemental superpowers, this is the roleplay for you.

My name is Estylwen, and I'm one of the Co-GMs for EVA. Our GM, Xzayler, is currently MIA and we've struggled to stay afloat for the past month. But with your help we'd like to change that and get this awesome story back on its feet again. We plan on regrouping at Nature's Haven, then marching on to one of the cities to train and attempt to survive.

I would ask, so we're all on the same page, that you take some time to read the IC to get a feel of what's going on. Oh, reading the OOC's beginning and the character sheets already in the deposit might also be a good idea too.

Please ignore the amount of posts, and (obviously) the thread is open and we're currently accepting character submissions.

DO NOT POST YOUR SHEETS IN THE OOC. Please place them in the Character Deposit as sheets tend to add unnecessary clutter to the OOC. Reviews of your sheet will be posted in the OOC.

EVA Character Files
Hi Bunnita~!

We would love your submission, but I'm thinking again... Obsidian and its facilities are more Dmytra's idea/creative child. What if we started a new thread that took place after the destruction of Obsidian? (Cuz, let's face it, we would have eventually blown their corrupt asses up.) Letting lose some top-secret weapons in the world? Damn, we'd have so much action we wouldn't know what to do with it all. :p

If no one has qualms about using their sheets for a second arc, I'll make a new thread for us soon.
I've added a Character Deposit for EVA. It's less for us and more for new submissions, but for everyone currently active here I'll be copying their sheet to the deposit (unless you want to, of course.)

EVA Character Files
Name: Cora Rishaw

Age: 18

Element: Lively Ice
Cora can convert water in the air to ice with such precision, it's possible for her to animate the ice. Example: Emerging from a burst of ice, the Ice dragon looks fluid and lively as it swims through the air, snapping its jaws and blowing shards of ice. But its intelligence is artificial as Cora controls it like a puppet on strings. But it definitely looks more formidable. She usually sticks to only a few animations; it's easier to think creative when there's less going on. Using her power too much results in a ripe migraine.

Appearance: Cora is way too skinny, you can count her ribs. Scavenging for food when there is none leads to malnourishment. Her skin has a constantly clammy, cold feel to it. She's pale, almost sickly so. Other than the dark circles under her eyes, her skin is smooth and unmarred. Her hair is a chocolate-brown, messy and layered short; it barely reaches the bottom of her neck. She parts it from the side, letting her feathered bangs sweep across her eyelashes. She typically wears a thick, black hoodie and mask scarf around her neck. Ripped jeans cover her legs, and she has tattered shoes on her feet.

Personality: She's insecure, and will do backflips (literally) for warmth and comfort. Those who have done a kindness to her she never forgets. She seeks happiness in other people, and in what little nature there is left. Though occasionally she is ruled by high emotion, and easily upsets herself if 'it's not fair.' People have called her a 'survivor' of sorts, she is well at adapting to her situation. Smart with her tongue, Cora is a decisive girl that can talk her way out of plenty of things.

History: Off and on throughout her childhood Cora had instances she couldn't explain. Like waking up to her window covered in frost on a summer day. Or breathing mist in a warm room. The cold never bothered her, so it struck her weird when people told her how cold she felt. But she brushed it off as nothing.

Cora and her boyfriend attended Kung Fu for three years before the dojo shut down due to bankruptcy. Occasionally they took advantage of their complex roof and sparred each other, just to keep sharp. But they practiced less and less when they started skipping dinner.

Ever since Cora lost her job being a house cleaner for one of the rich snobs of the city, she had to turn to scavenging and stealing to live. There were no other jobs to be found, and her boyfriend, Jesse, couldn't support them both with his miner's paycheck. For almost two years she's gone out every day, but old food from before is hardly good anymore, food stamps are hard to swipe, greeneries are guarded like the holy grail. Plus, other scavengers are merciless.

One evening she actually did manage to break into a greenery and sneek away with as many plants as she could carry before security even knew. Jesse came home that evening to their small flat spruced up with so much green, he was speechless. "...Cora, you know this is illegal."

"I did it for love." She smiled, offering him a carrot. "We're not going hungry tonight."

Presently, only a few plants remain in their secret garden flat. Food and water run thin once more.

Feel for element: Cora considers herself the closest thing to an ice cube--cold, solid, icy. But in the right arms she loves that feeling of warmth, melting her slowly. It's that philosophy that nothing's permanent, it's a destructive beauty that disappears when you glance away.

Enchanted item:
--Twin daggers that act like elemental conduits. The inscribed blades have a coat of frost patterned across the metal.

Guardian: Irys, ice spirit

Looks very similar to the picture above. Irys is made of crystalline ice that has a faint glow, she can change her size and bioluminescence easily, sometimes pulsating light to communicate. She hovers effortlessly with subtle movement similar to a jellyfish. She speaks telepathically only to Cora. And although Irys has no combat skills, her sixth sense allows her to feel the location and emotions of living beings in a 20ish foot radius.

Irys, I'm so lost. Where do we go? Cora squinted through the sandstorm, throwing her arms up in an attempt to shield herself from the biting shrapnel. The howl of wind was stronger on her right, probably where the eye of the storm was. Standing in the eye sounded like a pleasant idea, especially with all the grit flying at her. But getting closer to the tornado would probably take her off the ground.

"To the left!" Her spirit's voice chimed in her thoughts. At first Cora was skeptical, the left direction felt like the way they came, the way that led back to the Vygorns. Those terrible, terrible aliens. But as she shuffled closer, a figure appeared in the whipping sand. She got closer and tapped his shoulder. Phil, an iron grip on his weapon and a confused look in his eye.

She nodded to him. Kay Irys, how do we get out of here? It was too painfully windy to bother trying to communicate, so Cora took him by the wrist and started leading the two of them out. It felt like they were walking forever, taking turns here and there as Irys expertly led them away from Vygorns trying to scout the storm. Eventually the wind slowed down, and the haze of sand cleared as they broke out of the tornado's grasp. They were on the same ridge Shida had commanded the team behind, but no one was there to greet them.

No one.

Oh God. Cora swallowed the guilt building up in her chest, turning to Phil. "The aliens aren't too far behind us, we have to keep moving. I abhor leaving the others behind, but there's nothing we can do..."

She broke into a jog, using the scattered trash of the wasteland as cover. "We'll rendezvous with them back at Nature's Haven, and sort this mess out then." She didn't say anything else as she navigated the way back to Kyra's oasis, trying to ignore thoughts of death clouding her mind. Who made it, who didn't. She felt sick when she remembered the Water Hygron. Will was right beside her when Phil freed them, how could she have lost sight of him? God, what if he didn't make it back? What if none of them made it back?

Stop this. Now. She begged herself, feeling a panic sweep through her body. They were almost there, she could see the mountain path clearly. She just had to hold out a little longer.

Cora was in a dead run all the way up the mountain. She had to run from the thoughts, from everything. Keeping it together was top priority until she was inside. Wolgran would have to be told, and she knew his reaction wouldn't be good. Hell, Kyra was probably mad at her too. Yeah? Even the goddess of the earth? Fuck.

She could see the mouth of the cave, a black hole surrounded by hot stone of the mountain face. But as she neared, her steps slowed. Something feels wrong. Cora couldn't put her finger on it, but there was definitely something going on. The air of the cave felt much drier, and she entered with apprehension. What greeted her gaze was something beyond the most unholy of unholies.

It was dead. The Haven was dead. The grass lay in clumps of matted brown, the trees were withered and skeletal. Scatters of shriveled mushrooms were all that remained of what used to be huge and beautiful. Even the brook had dried to a trickle, almost impossible to sip from. There was a feeling of desecration in the walls of the cave, and it was as silent as the grave. Not a breath of wind. Nothing.

Cora slowly removed her hood and mask, jaw slack with doe eyes. Every part of her denied what she saw. "...W-Wolgran? Are you there?" The cave didn't stir. The sound of nothing was her reply. "Wolgran? Please Wolgran!"

Her voice cracked, and she collapsed to her knees, head in her hands. "Please, you can't be gone too. We have nothing. We have nothing and it's all my fault. I wanted to do something on my own, and my arrogance was my downfall." She drew a haggard breath, feelings of guilt and pain pouring in tears from her eyes. "It should have been my doom. I should have died! But I was saved, because those idiots thought my life was that important. I was saved, and I'm here now. And what do I have to show? Nothing. The Vygorns still breathe, and I bet it was they who destroyed this precious Haven.

"It's my fault. It's all my fault. Will, Aerilyn, Shida, Thema, everyone... Their deaths will be on my head, and mine alone. And there is nothing I can do to atone. Nothing... Nothing... There is infinite emptiness in nothing. How could the aliens find such beauty in a shadow?"

Cora tilted her head back, staring helplessly at the cave ceiling. "How could this tragedy be?"
