"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

"How long without food?"
Maw

“My poor, dear Maw… If you had just obeyed, you would be here with me, instead of living on the brink of death like a dog.” Von Galloes said in a cruel tone.

A pause, before Von leaned in from his observation window. “Two years. You've been asleep for two years.”

"Just one from me. How much dark matter energy can your system handle?"
Annalise

Von Galloes stared with mild curiosity, before a notification flashed on his watch, alerting him to the dark matter energy fluctuating in the servers. A low chuckle.

“You clever, stupid girl.”

And the simulation disappeared.

The Real World, Quiet HiveMind Facility

Cosy woke in her own tube, staring out at the shapes through the liquid. There was a gentle hiss as the water levels lowered, resting her feet on the steel floor. Slowly, the hatch door slid opened, and Cosy exited, still dressed in her gala dress. A ginger extrication of the oxygen mask and IVs, dropping them to the side. Cosy gave Nova a grateful smile as she was helped out.

”Thanks, Nova… I think I got muscle atrophy.”

Cosy, pensive look on her face, moved to stand beside Annalise.

As Annalise moved through the database, she would find the room they were in one of hundreds. There were countless people sleeping away in this facility they found themselves in, each in their own tube, and a group of tubes in a room. However, as she searched, she would come across something very, very annoying.

They were currently residing in Chicago. Stella, Sabrina, Dex, Allen and Theo were held at another HiveMind Facility in New York. The terminal Annalise had access to would only allow her to view their location. If she wanted to wake them up, she would have to travel there in person.

Dragon and Aurélie were held at a CDE site, high security, and evidently very dangerous to traverse if they were unprepared. The CDE site was located in Paris, at the remains of the Louvre Museum.

The terminal held a lot more information of people in tubes. The people who were sleeping were in the thousands… in the millions.

Upon waking up, everyone would have the strong sensation of not being entirely… whole. Like a part of their minds were lost to the stratosphere. Concerning…

The room they were in wasn't remarkable besides the tubes and the terminal. But the group would encounter another problem as everyone was coming out of their tubes.

Nick… Nick wasn't waking up.

No pressure, just take it easy. :<

VENUS.SNAP

A One-Way Ticket Out

"For emergency use only."

TYPE:
Pendant and chain with a twist-and-pull activated cap

LOCATION:
Possessed by Valencia Vorpal and Demos Castles

NOTABLE OWNERS:
Valencia Vorpal and Demos Castles

ABSTRACTION-GRANTING:
No
.............................................................................
The Venus Snap pendants were commissioned by Valencia Vorpal as a couple's gift to her and Demos Castles. Each Pendant is made of glass with a silver cap and chain. Inside the glass chamber is a mix of miangloong powder (found in Gloam) and red flint (also found in Gloam.) The cap can be twisted and pulled, releasing a hammer that smacks the red flint, causing the kinetic energy and materials to react, activating the Lux coding within.

Upon being struck, the materials flash a brilliant white light. Every living person within a five foot radius then disappears with the flash of light.

The chemical reaction activates Lancy's coding, where the pendant takes all beings within its range to a location held in the wielder's mind. This is not similar to standard teleporting, where a wormhole or portal is created between two locations. It's actually small-scale reality warping, bringing the destination to the passengers. This ensures there are no portals to track, and makes the disappearance nigh impossible to track or determine where the passengers ended up.

Due to this mild reality warping, there are consequences to those who use the Venus Snap's powers. Mild internal bleeding is a common side effect, as well as dizziness and disorientation upon arrival.

INDIGO.FEATHER

The Indigo Feather is a living, talking sword. It has the ability to see and talk despite having no eyes or mouth. It is imbued with one of Kai's foot soldiers, and specializes in cutting only the toughest or magically resistant of objects.

The sword itself is made of iodoite, an ore found in the Gloam dimension. Iodoite has the unique property in that it absorbs and computes Lux incredibly fast, allowing artifacts to be made much faster than normal. The sword is black with a purple aura. When running a finger along the edge of the blade, it feels soft like a feather, hence its name. The blade is too soft and feathery to even leave a paper cut on a finger.

A Midnight Soldier, a foot soldier specifically, is imbued in the sword. It's this minion that brings the sword to life. The minion, nicknamed Feefee, is a female minion who is notoriously lazy. She believes herself to be above most challengers, and so doesn't bother to become sharp for boring challenges. The more resistant a material, the more Feefee is interested in proving she is the superior cutter and slicer. She has cut diamond before, a fact she loves to brag about.

Indigo Feather is useless against most soft materials, like human skin and sinews, wood, and metal. The harder, more cut-resistant, physically-resistant and magically-resistant a material or person, the more easily the Indigo Feather can cut it.

The Star Siphon is a clear quartz cut in a diamond round shape, trapped in a silver cage with a chain. The stone is about 100 grams in weight. Wearing the stone or touching the cage while funneling a bit of Lux through it activates the stone's effects. When in use, the stone glows a yellowish white.

When activated, the Star Siphon will release yellowish-white spores that float in the air around the user in a fifteen-foot radius. These spores will remain in the air until the Star Siphon is deactivated or destroyed, at which the spores will fade and disperse.

The radius of effect of each spore is five feet. Within this radius, if there is any Lux that is sent as a projectile, is cast, or is in any way within this radius, the spore will devour it in a matter of seconds. The spore has no limit to how much Lux it can devour, as it is actually a small worm hole, with all the Lux funneling into another dimension. The wormhole spore has a one-way movement in it, disallowing Lux to be reclaimed through the spore.

The downside of the spores is that they do not differentiate between friend and foe Lux, and will absorb and devour all forms of Lux within their radius. Even if the user tries to cast Lux that isn't directly involved with the Star Siphon, they will find their own Lux be siphoned away.

Temple Grounds, Layla's Suite, a Few Hours Before the Meeting

“So you're free to come over now?” Layla asked, phone pressed to her ear. There was shuffling on the other end of the line as Aislin responded.

“Yeah, yeah, I just have to grab my jacket and drive-”

Alizée's chains formed a circle in the center of the room, revealing Aislin standing there with her jacket half-on, staring with her jaw near on the floor.

Before she smirked. “Or you could do that.”

And Aislin grabbed her keys and backpack, and stepped through the portal into Layla's suite. She was dressed for the cool-ish weather, a hoodie and denim jacket with thick leggings. She had her aviators on the tip of her nose, before she bagged them and her phone in a pocket of her backpack.

The portal disappeared behind her, and Layla smiled as she pocketed her own phone. “Much easier than driving, yes?”

Layla was dressed in a black blouse, knee-length sweater, a scarf loosely hung over her, and black jeans. Aislin noticed it right away, and tilted her head curiously.

“Gave up your regular blue? It really brought out your eyes…”

Layla shrugged, waving off Aislin's concern, ushering her over to the suite’s sofa. “Take a seat, let me grab you some juice.”

Layla set a glass of apple juice in front Aislin on the coffee table before sitting beside her. Alizée simply folded her legs and lounged in the air in front of them. Aislin took a sip, mumbled a polite ‘thank you’, before shifting slightly so she was facing Layla and Alizée.

“So… How did it go? You left the meeting in a hurry. Though, to be fair, you didn't miss anything else.”

Layla perked up, smiling. “It went well. Alizée and I are adjoined now. There's no more bloodsucker demons. I feel… Normal. Much better. Like how I was before my home uh, burned down.”

Aislin smiled warmly at that, nodding. “That's really good to hear.”

Her gaze focused on Alizée, “And you, Alizée? Are you adjusting okay? Any memories come back?”

Alizée nodded. “I'm fine. It feels nice being around Layla. She still has Vul's scent on her… I got a snippet of a memory the other day, but it wasn't anything relevant. I suppose I'm still adjusting, but I have no complaints.”

Aislin raised an eyebrow. “You eloquently said very little just now.”

Alizée stared for a moment, before her eyes upcurled. “I have a few problems. A bit of concern with the Temple. A lack of Void, but please don't tell anyone that, I was suppose to give up on him. And a bit of hunger growing in my stomach. But these are Alizée problems, not Aislin problems.”

“Concern? How so?”

“Well… I've come to a realization, looking at Layla's memories. They ate Void when they sealed him. And it made me realize where their discrimination of Adjoined stems from. They eat the apparitions, they see them as food. So those connected to apparitions, why would they be anything special? Why would they be above Adepts? They're just moving food. Food that's been repurposed as tools.”

Layla grimaced as Alizée spoke. “I know you're not food, Alizée.”

“It's actually funny. I consider humans as walking food. So the Temple pointing this philosophy back is… Interesting. Neither, though, are right.”

Aislin listened patiently, measured concern on her face. “We're all individuals at the end of the day. Vibrant individuals. I hope everything with that goes well.”

Layla and Alizée nodded, while Layla gave Aislin a curious look. “What about you? What have you been up to?”

Aislin had a pained smile, taking another sip of her juice. “Weeell, I got my art collection stolen. I was so excited to see it in the museum, Drake, Adora and Anya were there. Along with another individual… Silver hair, expensive suit. She introduced herself as Valencia Vorpal, asked about the estimated price of the set. And, that night… It was gone.”

Aislin shrugged, trying to console the pain in Layla and Alizée's eyes. “I don't know who did it, but I'm suspicious of her…”

Layla softly shook her head. “I'm really sorry to hear that, Aislin. I know you're really proud of your art.”

“I am!” Aislin groaned, before she gave an apologetic smile. “You don't need to worry about it, though. I've put in a report to the police station. Maybe something will come of it…”

Aislin finished her juice, thinking a moment, before she asked. “You know there is a meeting today?”

Layla nodded. “Yes.”

“You wanna go together?”

Layla glanced at Alizée briefly, before smiling at Aislin. “Of course, that sounds great!”

The Eleventh Path

Interactions: Jack (@Blizz), Lynn and Jasper (@NoriWasHere), Anya (@Fernstone), everyone

Aislin set a large black bag on the round table, pulling out champagne glasses. Each was filled a little less than half of red wine, and Aislin made her rounds around the table as Sycamites filed in, passing them a drink with a wink.

Layla took a seat at the table, eyes wide in awe. Alizée hovered behind her, hands placed calmly behind her back. She too, was admiring.

The place was beautiful. And Jack seemed collected. More so than normal. Curiosity grew on Layla's face as she swirled the glass of wine Aislin had passed her, eyes wholly focused on the brooding man.

”But, before we begin, I have grim news. Auri Auclar, Todd Dancing River, and Bé Rochefoucauld were taken from us by Father Wolf recently.”
Jack

“No…” Layla murmured, now understanding why it was Jack that called the meeting.

Layla, Alizée and Aislin bowed their heads at the moment of silence, letting the lack of noise give shape to their memory.

Before Layla peeked at Jack. Was he the de facto leader now? It was suitable. Even if it hurt when she thought of him betraying her. But… He was just trying to protect her, wasn't he?

So she'd treat him as the de facto leader, then.

”They have asked for our assistance in raiding Elysium Island, a place owned by the Elite. The House of Cards will also be at Elysium Island, where they are attempting to decode Kari’s notes.”
Jack

Layla and Aislin exchanged a look, and Alizée shifted in the air, feeling the sudden spike in anxiety from Layla.

The question was on their faces. If the House of Cards was involved… where the hell was Luna. Did Luna choose them? Or did she choose the House of Cards?

“if father wolf has begun to target groups as well is it time for us to find a way to all live together?”
Lynn

Aislin grinned. “I'd be down for that. Does anyone have a big enough house, though? That's the real question.”

“I don’t know the details fully but I do know the Elite apparently attacked them earlier in the week and it really pissed off the leadership.”
Jasper

Aislin nodded, “Just to confirm what Jasper said, yes, it happened. I was uh, in the back lines. But it was bad. I wasn't aware it was the Elite, though… That's good to know.”

”If three people died together, why not all of us? Surely living together just gives Father Wolf easier targets. Or we’ll kill each other.”
Anya

Aislin winced at that. “Well, maybe if we all kept hiding in dimensional pockets like this place? Seems even safer than being in one group… But still, I wouldn't dismiss it, with all due respect. Isn't there safety in numbers?

“At least larger groups. If anyone, like myself, was living alone, we should uh, forgo that, and at least have smaller groups be a thing.”

”You failed to mention it, but I presume our plan is to take Kari’s notes along with the Artifacts? We don’t want them deciphered by the House of Cards, even if the Artifacts will be more useful to us.”
Anya

Layla shook her head, not quite understanding. “Didn't Luna say she was gonna have her mafia send the notes over to us? They're really… gonna decode it without us?”

It was then that Alizée spoke up, red eyes locking with Jack's. “What sort of… artifacts are you hoping they'll hold? Is it worth risking the lives of the living?”

Alizée, of course, was thinking of Layla, still young and budding in her new powers. If anything happened to her…

@Crusader Lord Thanks for the update! You can still use the schooler program if it happened in the past. :)
