Tuyen felt nothing but terror at the appearance of the hound, even as the Wendigos disappeared. It had saved them – but at what cost.
It seemed the cost was two of their members.
Rien clenched a fist at the unfairness of it all. What the fuck was with this avoiding your death? Surely that was this Hounds fuck up. They didn’t want to lose anyone else – but what could they do. What could they say? In the end they were too much of a coward to argue against it.
Instead they stepped closer to Kimberley, knowing that this was bound to hit her hardest. Jordan had been her closest friend. Rien would be there for her, but what could they really do? They couldn’t bring Jordan back.
Tuyen just watched from the side lines as Rita went off, using her abstraction on both Jordan and Kimberley. The answers made her uncomfortable – and others too. She was shocked by all of this, she really was, but deep down she was numb to it.
She winced as Justin and Zoey tried to fight back (as expected of them, honestly) and nothing came of it.
And then they were gone.
“You can’t just expect us to take their abstractions,” Rien blurted out, eyes widening as the Hound suggested it. “They were our friends and they just… They’re just gone now, how is that respectful?”
They needed everything they could get, sure, but Rien just… couldn’t.
“I’ll take one,” Tuyen stepped forward, voice just loud enough to be heard. “We need to do everything we can to beat the Gluten.”
She shrugged slightly. Her own abstraction was a double edged sword right now anyway. So she touched the sigil that had been Madeline’s, concentrating on it carefully – until a lotus flower appeared on her wrist.
“Well, I’m not taking Jordan’s,” Rien said, putting their hands up and looking at Kimberly. It just didn’t feel right.
