@JDubs: The core is generally the only part of the Mechframe derived from the Warped. Anything beyond that is (usually) up to the designers or builders to execute on.
@Izurich: Well, I won't be doing any official acceptances before we get the RP up and running in a proper OoC, but I can give a quick preliminary review.

So, I think the big thing to note here is that the main cast will not be part of any government agency for the sake of being able to move about freely between nations; that's the purpose of the skybase in the intro section here. It conflicts a bit with the backstory given, though, so I'd like if you could rework the sections pertaining to that. All of the characters would have been scouted out roughly 6 months to a year prior to when I plan on starting, if that helps any.
@Izurich: Dragon theming should be fine. I should note, however, that by the starting point of the RP things on the level of those big dragons (at least in terms of power and spectacle by our standards) shouldn't have been able to be taken down yet. Bigger game isn't on the table yet and all that.

The sound of pen hitting table was a sound that Sandra Morrison had grown far too accustomed to over the last year. Day after day, the young woman had spent nearly every waking hour poring over paperwork. Physical documentation, digital spreadsheets, and anything in between—every piece to be checked over and signed off on, in her name. If she had been born half a decade earlier, she could have brushed this off as the result of sleepless nights working on college papers...

And, in all honesty, she wished it was only that much.

Deciding to take a break from whatever was troubling her at the moment, Sandra decided to peer out through the window of her office, the midday sun shining through, and stared at the world below.

The walled city of Tokyo, sectioned off from the rest of the land by wall after wall—and her destination for the day. With the development of the Chi-Mechframes complete, the personnel she had picked up to begin with could finally begin training.

With the world overtaken by the Warped, something like this was the least she could try doing to help right the world. Part of a government agency she was not, but maybe that was for the best.

The Warped

The Warped had first appeared roughly five years ago; experts have since managed to pinpoint the epicenter of the incident to █████████, Greece, though none have been brave (or stupid) enough to travel to the now-infested lands to confirm such hypotheses. Their explosive propagation throughout the country soon bled into other nations, and try as they might to stem the flow, the Warped seemed unrelenting in their efforts to overtake humanity.

What is most notable about the Warped (other than their uncanny imperviousness to most modern military arms) is their method of reproduction. A small parasite, now colloquially known as 'Echidna', first enters the mouth of a human before subsequently burrowing into the back of its throat. From there, it connects to its now-host's brain and spinal cord before forcing the body to mutate into the monsters we see now. The forms that the Warped take seem to, at least in some part, align with animals, monsters from mythology, and other such mythical beings, though certain regions of the world seem more predisposed to to bringing forth Warped more familiar in form to those of a land's native fauna and folklore. There are no concrete theories yet, however, so it remains to be seen as to why the Warped appear as they do.

With that said, the Warped are still almost impossible to decipher as of yet, both in terms of physiology and behavior. Their bodies, for example, are several times larger and heavier than the humans that were used as hosts, and despite the military's best efforts, many of the larger and more dangerous variants seem to be incredibly resistant to damage from most modern weaponry—including nuclear armaments. Not only that, but they also seem to showcase many abilities in line with the forms of the creatures that they take, even going so far as to create trails of flame or freeze locales near-instantaneously. With that said, they do not seem to actively target flora or fauna for the most part, and instead seem to roam about certain regions or stay put altogether and only grow aggressive in the presence of humans, who they will often attack indiscriminately (or even go so far as to release Echidna in an attempt to spread further), which has left most humans reliant on living within enclosed settlements for safety. There are occasional attacks, of course, but it seems that the more aggressive creatures seem to not actively target larger settlements. Whether this is a trend that will hold remains to be seen.

I hope that these preliminary observations regarding the Warped will provide a general understanding to the populace of how they function, and that we may begin to take back our world.

Cores and Chi-Mechframes

After three years of chaos and with humanity's backs against the wall, a coalition of scientists and engineers the world over gathered at once in Japan—the country furthest away from Ground Zero of the Warped—and began to work fervently in a concerted attempt to understand their enemy. Taking the corpses gathered of all manner of the dead, these scientists began to dissect these creatures and found one major thing in common with all of them—the presence of pulsating crystallized matter within their bodies. Their locations seemed inconsistent—some, the heart; others, the brain—but all seemed to have one. Tests were conducted upon these objects, and the results were often inconclusive.

Until eventually, one curious team of engineers was given the okay to experiment with one—with proper supervision, of course. The results of that week of experimentation was what is now known as the first Chi-Mechframe prototype—a biomechanical suit that seems to take on the powers of the Warped whose Core it holds. Preliminary tests showed that the concept had promise. Most notable, of course, was that these suits seemed to both ignore the inbuilt resistances of the Warped that held fast against bullets and flames, and that they seemed to be just as resilient as the creatures they were made to fight at times.

But such benefits were not without downsides. Most humans, even highly-trained soldiers, were incapable of utilizing the Chi-Mechframes, almost as if the suit itself was rejecting them. However, there was one among the initial testers who that restriction that did not seem to apply—a young soldier who had initially been wounded in the chest during a fight against the Warped two years prior, during which an Echidna had managed to enter his body through said wound. Though he had been quarantined and kept around as a test subject, the young man had since recovered and, having shown no immediate adverse side effects, was allowed to remain alive (though under constant supervision). To him, the suit seemed to move about nearly weightlessly, acting as an extension of his body (or so he described it). Combat trials began soon thereafter, and the results gave those in charge more than enough reason to invest into their further development.

Of course, the problems inherent in making more like the soldier—now known as the first Frame Pilot—and the dangers inherent in having people be willingly infected by Echidna were too high to allow for by most every nation. But those that did exist were highly sought after, by nation and otherwise.

In their current iterations, Chi-Mechframes are generally modeled after the Warped that they came from to some extent, in order to better make use of their capabilities. Due to how difficult high-quality Cores are to come by (as they only can be obtained from dangerous Warped who require heavy military investments to obtain), these pieces of equipment are often both custom-made and rather absurdly expensive. However, one minor upside to doing so is that even if rendered useless, Cores can be repurposed as an alternate power source and thus sold or used for whatever other purpose.

A World Ruined

The years following the outbreak of Warped were filled with chaos. The first was marred by politics and fear. In many nations the world over, martial law and lockdowns were put into place in attempts to restrain the populace, but when the Warped showed up all the same, all hell broke loose. The second brought with it a destruction of the norm; though many larger cities were able to clamp down on the situation and begin concentrated efforts to protect the people within, smaller ones soon saw mass exodus towards places they now saw as 'safe', often bringing with them the very same parasite that they sought to flee from.

Though there was untold loss of life, the third year brought with it some small relief. The worst, it seemed, had passed, and though many were left displaced, the initial wave that had wiped out or transformed so much of the population did not end humanity as many predicted it might have. Sequestered away within these spheres of civilization, those that remained continued to rebuild. Luckily, the arrival of the Warped did not bring with it the complete destruction of telecommunications, which meant that as a whole, humanity was fragmented but not broken. Thus began the efforts to reorganize, scattered as they were; with no nation left unscathed by the Warped, though, for the next few years their efforts would be placed firmly towards themselves and none other.

With whispers of the Chi-Mechframe's development upon the wind, however, the people were given a glimmer of hope—a possibility of the return to the days since gone. To what end that hope may bring remains to be seen, however...

Word from the GM

Hello! Yes, it is me, the GM, here to speak about the RP a bit. Fundamentally, this idea draws a lot from not just tokusatsu and mecha girl series (e.g. Rangers, Kamen Rider, Symphogear, Strike Witches, and so on and so forth), but also from series like Resident Evil, Fallout, and even Monster Hunter to some extent. Ideally, I'd like the cast to fit that sort of demographic (so characters anywhere from 16-25) in turn.

I'll also state here that my co-GM for this project will be @VitaVitaAR; if you have any questions about the setting or world or whatever else, please feel free to ask.

Here's a form if you feel like starting ahead of schedule; I don't plan on having more than... Six characters total? With that said, this RP will be first come first served, but under the caveat that I will likely be approving characters based on how well they would mesh with the group as a whole. That being said, this is an interest check, so things may be subject to change.

Sunswept Plains — Campsite

Glancing between his inventory and the food a few times, Yu found himself grimacing at the prospect of attempting to preserve the fish without salt. It was possible that one of the other (Kokoma, maybe?) had some in reserve, but in all likelihood they were just going to have to see how things would pan out. For what it was worth, the amount of fish that had been retrieved coupled with the newly-hunted bird (whatever the heck monster that was) meant that they most certainly had room to spare on that front.

Failing that, maybe one of them could use ice magic...

...Did any of them have ice magic to begin with, though...?

Seeing the current situation as it was, though, Eunice simply sighed and shook her head, the slightest of smiles on her face as she glanced at how the group was fumbling about.

"I can probably handle starting the preservation process and cooking whatever we have," she said, lighting the campfire with a flick before glancing at Sefira's gunk-covered form again with a frown. "As was assumed prior, there is actually a river nearby—over that way."

"Gotcha; guess I'll go handle those clothes," Yu nodded, following after Saito as he went off towards the aforementioned body of water. Laundry, he could do, at least. "Better than leaving me to cook, at least."

The river itself was fairly pristine, with clear water running downstream towards the lake that had been the source of all the fish left back at the campsite, and the riverbed here was surprisingly shallow—perfect for what they planned to accomplish here. The sun was still hanging over the horizon at this point, but night would be upon them soon enough.

It was that slowly-shifting sun, though, that would reveal a momentary glint of something deeper within the river. Though the water itself could be seen through with ease, whatever had caught the light would likely have gone unnoticed otherwise. The slight form of a hilt of some form could be made out if one focused and the water made itself right for a moment, but beyond that...

With the sounds of battle growing fainter as they left, Misaki took a deep breath, content for the moment with how things had been panning out once they had left. Of course, it wasn't like she had done much of anything, but...

Well, she had brought the deer to help, at least?

As Narkissa stated her intention to remain behind, Misaki simply gave a nod in return and continued back towards the village, Lazirha at her side. It wasn't like she could stay behind, given her capabilities, and putting her or the deer at risk of further harm because she wanted to try and help more was courting death.

Silent as she was, though, Lazirha's comment pulled Misaki out of her thoughts about who to flag down when back in town and left her instead with a bit of a melancholic look.

"Ah... Yeah. I think I mentioned before that I didn't really fight in the first place. Good thing you were here, huh?" she responded, patting the deer prancing at her side on the head before sighing. "Much as I hate to admit it, that part's gotta change... But, well, that aside, even if it wasn't exactly according to plan, you did help ruin that ambush, so if anything you can say you did more that I did, at least?"

There was a moment of silence before Lazirha chimed in again, and given the situation...

Well, honestly, letting Lazirha rest would probably be best, given everything that had transpired today.

"I... Suppose that would be fine, but we should worry about getting some people who can handle the situation in the forest over there before thinking about getting any sort of rest," the foxgirl said simply as the village drew into view.

Hopefully it wasn't too late to find people who could help resolve the incident at hand...

@Rune_Alchemist
Though her initial expectations towards whether or not her attempts at drawing attention were working were low, the fact that the deer at her side had managed to make up for her shortcomings were at least something of a relief to Misaki. She felt bad making the animal attack the slime, hesitant as it seemed to be, but the magic it was able to lob out was most certainly better than her random rocks and sticks.

Of course, seeing the slime consume one of the hunters caused the foxgirl's face to pale. It was most certainly a matter of life and death now, but that didn't change how it was still somewhat jarring to see someone die right in front of her.

Luckily enough, though, the escalation of combat coupled with the arrival of the group they were planning to ambush gave her enough time to compose herself enough to heed Narkissa's words as she drew closer.

"...Right, let's retreat, then. I'd rather get the people who can fight at this point now that their ambush is dead in the water," she said, gesturing towards the deer to follow as she began to head back the way she had come from.

Hopefully the chaos of combat would be enough to let them all get away without a hitch...

@A Lowly Wretch: All right, summary of the important things that happened in that group thus far:
  • Both characters met in Sen Rynta, and after a brief pit stop at Myrtle's mansion, left for the outskirts.
  • They hunted a rabbit and cooked it.
  • The smell of cooked rabbit attracted a bunch of hobgoblins, who then attacked...
  • And then were promptly executed with impunity.

And that's about where things stand now.

On that note, do you want a Discord link for the RP?

Sunswept Plains — Campsite

"Uh... Huh. Well, I assume going back to the lake where you ended up like that isn't the best of choices," the swordsman began, glancing briefly at the muck-covered elf, "but there's probably a body of water feeding into that which would be of some use. Probably."

Of course, seeing that Saito had only come out of it with naught but a dirty coat, Yu could only wonder what sort of bad luck Sefira had to have had in order to end up in her current state.

"As for the fish... Uh... Preserving... Salt, I guess?" he half-asked, half-responded as he rifled through his inventory. Other than the food he already had in his inventory (which, Yu considered, was probably worth checking the integrity of), there didn't seem to be anything to use to help with preservation...

Or even to season the fish with...

"...Hm. This... Might be a problem," he muttered to himself as the sound of footsteps approaching from another direction caught his notice. The return of both Eunice and Kokoma, it seemed—and with a new guest to boot.

"I see you've helped resolve the food problem," Eunice said, looking at the fish both Saito and Sefira had gathered before looking at the two of them proper, "though there seems to be a new one in its place."

After placing the firewood and tinder she had gathered off to the side before beginning to set up the fire pit, the white-haired girl held one hand out towards what she had prepared and, rather than lighting the campfire immediately, began to heat the wood to draw what moisture remained out of it.

There was a pause before Yu turned to look at Saito's coat again and, having finished with the tents, found himself with little else to do beyond checking the situation out. Equipment maintenancce, especially with regards to clothing, would have to be up his alley, right...?

"Uh... Hm. Well, assuming that there is a river near that lake, I could probably wash all this gunk out and dry it. Never did laundry by hand before, but it's probably better than letting it set, right?" he asked before turning towards Sefira again. "Though, uh... I assume you'd rather wash your own clothes, if possible."

All the while, of course, the cat that Kokoma had found continued fidgeting around in her arms. The animal seemed uncomfortable with being carried as it was, and coupled with a broken limb, the stress it seemed to be experiencing was but a given. Once it caught wind of the fish, though, and saw the amount that the pair of adventurers had managed to gather, its eyes seemed to widen in shock. Though it did not seem to yearn for any, the sight of it all seemed to keep it from scratching Kokoma.

Or, at the very least, any more than it already had.

Sen Rynta — Outskirts

It went without saying that the hobgoblins that had been thrown into the air by the tornado had unceremoniously rained down from the skies above onto the ground, their bodies battered and broken. If they weren't dead before, they most certainly were now—and if not then, they would be soon enough.

"I-I'm fine..." Anastasia said, glancing between the two other girls at her side before looking again towards the carnage they had unleashed, her face paling slightly before she turned away with on hand on her chest. "But... Right. Food. Could we maybe... Move camp a bit away from here before that...?"

Though caught up in the heat of the moment during the short battle, it seemed that the young woman took seeing the results of combat in less stride than she did the butchery of animals, dangerous though the situation had been.

@Hammerman@Operator Luna
@A Lowly Wretch: Well, there are two groups right now, and with the current group division, I'd prefer you started in the Sen Rynta one with @Hammerman and @Operator Luna. I don't think there's anything to go for beyond that, other than maybe brushing over what's happened thus far with them...? I can also give a recap, if need be.
