Sam saw them out and stayed by the front door as she watched Kay and John pack the car and nodded at Serena's words. Kay walked round to the driver's side, made sure there were no cars coming before opening the door and getting inside. She put the key in the ignition but waited for the other two before she started the car up.

When they were both ready and in, she then started the car and when it was clear, she pulled away from Sam's house, seeing in her rear view mirror that Sam was waving them goodbye as they pulled away. Kay sighed as she gripped the steering wheel, finding that just like before it was incredibly hard to leave her sister behind, in fact for her it was almost harder this time because she wasn't running for her life this time.
As John grabbed the bags, Kay picked up her box of stuff again, putting the photos back in and gave her sister one more hug briefly before grabbing her hooded jacket to pull out the car key. She let Serena speak to Sam as she headed toward the front door.

Sam took the black card from Serena and nodded, "thank you, and you take care of yourself okay?" she replied to her, still thinking about them more than herself. "I hope you have a smooth journey back" she added, giving Serena a hug goodbye.
"I know, I guess I'm just gonna worry a lot again." Sam said sheepishly, "but I know you both have proven more than tenfold that she's safe with you both and you're both safe with her." she added, making Kay give her sister a reassuring squeeze of the shoulder. "I'll keep in touch and don't worry, if we need anything we'll call" she told Sam which seemed to put her at ease just that bit more.

Kay then looked at both John and Serena, "i'm ready to get driving if you two are, if we can avoid Seattle's busy peak on the roads I'll be happy. I don't fancy being stuck in traffic for hours just getting out of the city" she commented to the both of them. She didn't want to rush either of them, but she didn't want to risk anyone coming here again for either of them.
Kay had no problem with Serena also coming over to read the message on the inside of the lid, nodding at what they were theorising, even though she found it baffling at Joe it could have appeared there when her mother was dead. "I guess it's yet another thing to figure out when we get home" she told them both.

She closed the little necklace box again, deciding she would put it on when they got home just incase it was enchanted somehow. She wanted to be somewhere safer and magically guarded so if it something did happen, John and Serena would be able to do so much more for her than being at Sam's. She looked up at Sam, "thank you for this, and for keeping it safe for so long. It means more to me than you could know Sam."she told her, handing the whole shoebox to John, as he had the Polaroid photos still, stood up and hugged Sam tightly.

"Kay, you're my sister, there was no way I was going to let this stuff go missing in any shape or form. I love you" Sam replied hugging her back protectively. From over Kay's shoulder, Sam looked at both John and Serena with a look that said 'keep her safe please' even though she knew they would. She eventually let go of Kay with a pat on her arms and smiled at her comfortingly. "you're gonna be just fine Kay. I just hope you figure everything out you need to, and if any of you need anything don't hesitate to give me a call" Sam added.
"it's an collection of my stuff from when I was younger..." Kay said, trying to hold her emotions in check. She first pulled out some old Polaroids of her and Sam when they were around 15 years old. Sam didn't look much different, still with the long brown hair, skinny jeans and fitted tshirt that she made just a bit shorter in length so it was somewhere between a cropped top and full length top and a cropped fitted denim jacket. Kay looked every but of a typical fifteen year old, hair was tied into a messy ponytail, straggly whispy bits of hair framing her face, two paintbrushes sticking out of her ponytail in an 'X' formation and dark eyeliner on her face.

Her clothing wasn't much different to what she wore nowadays, except this time it was baggy ripped at the knees jeans, converse and a fitted Nirvana tshirt that had paint splodges on it. Looking back at the photo, a smile appeared on her face as she remembered the day it was taken. Yet she didn't focus on the photos for too long as she noticed things in the box from her real childhood with her biological mother. A photo of herself no older than 7 years of age, smiling broadly as she's playing the piano with her mother, legs swinging back and forth. Looking every bit of a mini version of her mother. "I... I never thought I'd see these again" she said, trying to hold it together more.

Handing John the photo, she found a small box inside the shoebox that she shakily lifted up and opened, finding a necklace inside of a circular pendant with a phoenix emblem on it, all hanging from a leather throng. A small note stuck to the inside of the box reading-

'my little flamebird
When the time arises,
you'll find your destiny,
With these keys, our kind will be free'

Reading the note, she barely remembered ever seeing it before. "I... Don't recall this note being in here before.." she commented, showing John to see if he could work anything out from the clue left to her.

Sam leaned over and looked, "there never used to be a note in the box." she confirmed.
Kay wondered what Sam could possibly have to give her when she didn't even know if she was still alive until yesterday, but she knew Sam well enough to not question it. If Sam said she had something, then she was going to take her word for it. With John speaking up, she looked at him and smiled softly before nodding at his and Serena's words. "I'm just thankful that you understand why now I've kept her out of this world and want to keep her as out of it as possible." she told them both. "I really don't want her to lose that bright spark she has." she added.

Sam rummaged round her bedroom for a few moments before finding what she was looking for. Feeling proud of herself, she pulled down the shoebox and clutched it tightly to herself and came back downstairs. Entering the living room again and handed Kay the shoebox, "I've been keeping hold of this in the hopes you'd come back to me...you need to have it Kay" Sam explained as Kay took hold of it, confused to why it was important to have. That was...until she opened it by lifting the lid, placing it beside her and a surge of strong emotions overcame her.
Kay's offer to just do the full drive felt like such a small thing, but she knew there would be no way it'd be fair to expect Serena to drive after everything, even though she herself went through a tough moment, but she knew John didn't drive (or very rarely drove) so it was down to her and her alone. At him saying about Sam having his number now, so there o way she couldn't stay in contact made Kay smile but roll her eyes teasingly, until his kiss on her cheek softened her again.

"exactly, so no excuse to not remain in contact" Sam smirked. "I don't think these two-" Kay gestured at John and Serena, then continued, "would let me stop contact now." she finished saying with a small fond smile. "and that's why I like them! They're stubbornness can rival yours!" Sam grinned, then she suddenly remembered something, "oh! Before you go, I need to give you something!" she said getting up and rushing upstairs.
Sam nodded in acknowledgement at what John said, sipping her tea as she chatted with them all. "that's good. Kay, will you text me when you get back? Do I know you're safe?" she asked her sister. "of course I will, I promise after this I will remain in contact as well" Kay replied, knowing Sam would ask her to after that first question, and that seemed to satisfy Sam.

She then turned to Serena, "don't worry about driving either. You can relax out in the back. I'll do the full drive" Kay told her, "if you need a break we can do the stop at a services like the trip up here" she added.
Kay found herself looking at Serena to make sure she really was a okay before she looked back at John as he spoke to her. "I say head off when we've finished our tea. It'll give Serena time to really relax properly" she replied to him, then sipped her tea some more.

"sounds like a good idea. Is it a long way you gotta go?" Sam chimed in.
Kay smiled, grabbing her mug with her free hand and getting off her stool. She walked into the kitchen with Serena, glad that she seemed to be a lot calmer than moments ago.

Sam just nodded at John's words, she didn't know Chas but did recall the man being mentioned before, but she did know in her heart that if anyone could figure out what's going on with them all, it would be them. They all struck her as intelligent people and a very strong group who could and would overcome pretty much anything. "I'm sure you'll figure it out" she replied to him as she saw Serena and Kay walk back into the living room.
