Name: Katsuo Hayashi
Alias: Midori Kamen
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Biography:
Hero - Someone who performs an extraordinarily brave and generous act of courage in order to protect those who are incapable of doing so on their own, even if it's at the cost of their own life and well being. When Katsuo was growing up, he was always enamoured with the idea of heroism. He wanted to be like the courageous men and women he saw fighting the unending forces of evil that constantly plagued the world. How they did everything they could to keep everyone safe, even if it meant sacrificing themselves in the process. When the going got tough, they gave it their all and stood back up, fighting for what they believed in. The hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the world rested upon their shoulders alone, but they refused to surrender. That young boy wanted nothing more than to be like his idol, Midorenger of Color Sentai Nirenger.
Four years ago, while walking home from school, the thirteen year old boy came across a strange, bucket wearing figure who walked out of the nearby ocean. He witnessed the monster tear through police barricades and buildings alike with little effort, his path of destruction never faltering for even a second. Not until they came. The Nirengers. Katsuo had followed Buckethead the whole way and had seen all of the carnage he left in his wake, just for this very moment. Finally, he'd get to watch the thing brought to its knees as his childhood heroes beat the snot out of the villain!
Fate, however, is a cruel mistress, and instead of witnessing their victory, he was a victim of the horror that was their defeat. Right before his eyes, he saw each Nirenger imapled, disemboweled, dismembered, decapitated, and eviscerated until only two remained. With both of those final two defenders too injured and too fatigued to go on though, Buckethead continued his walk of devastation until Katsuo saw the murderer finally take its own life.
The young teen would spend months in therapy after The Fall of the Nirengers, before finally he was given a clean bill of health. Though the heroes he had once looked up to were either dead or never seen again, his determination hadn't suffered the same fate. In fact, it had been strengthened. With so few heroes left, who better to take up the mantel than their biggest fan? He would train night and day to be as powerful as those he still strived to be. It was never enough though. Katsuo could never hope to reach the same level of power as enhanced beings like Midorenger. Not without help. Help that he would be granted by an unlikely source.
The Spirit of the Earth is a benevolent entity, who's sole purpose is to keep both the planet and it's inhabitants safe. Whenever something powerful enough to possibly extinguish all life on the world approaches, it grants immeasurable power to one champion it deems worthy. While in a dream, the entity came to Katsuo, and warned him of an impending terror that was coming to devour Earth and all who lived on it. This Entity of Destruction originated from another universe altogether, and satisfied its hunger by feeding on matter, the only thing capable of staving off its starvation. There was hope of defeating this beast though, and The Spirit of the Earth chose him to become this hope.
That was two weeks ago. With no nearby threats to test his powers on yet, Katsuo has yet to make his public appearance. With new, terrifying monsters and evil, mischievous villains making their presences know to the the world every day, it's unlikely that this period of uneventfulness will last forever.
Personality:
Most people would describe Katsuo as naive and ingenuous, and they'd probably be right, the young man has a very childlike view of the world around him. However, were you to say this to his face, he would merely shrug off the insult and continue on his way. Call it conviction or call it stubbornness, he will continue to do what he believes to be the right thing. Even if the odds are against him and his back is against the wall, he will not give up on his ideals and he will fight until his last breath is spent before he'll ever consider doing something morally wrong.
Powers: The more he believes in himself, the more his strength will slowly grow. It isn't instant though. It builds up at a steady pace and if he has any doubt within his heart, it will grow much slower, possibly even decreasing.
Origin of Powers: Katsuo was chosen to become the champion of the planet after the Spirit of the Earth chose him to defend it from a far off, future threat.
